you need to install the unstable mister main. update won't install them - it just downloads them
-rework the exeptions (sh2test) -fix the decoding of an invalid LRU (sh2test) -fix associative purge for cache (sh2test) -some optimization
The core needs a "CACHE_VALID" module added to the sh_mem file.
Use the get unstable builds script. It'll download the latest unstable mister main for you and backup the prior one.
I already have that enabled
It's a seperate script. At least for me anyways
I just tried manually copying the unstable mister main over, and still nothing. Curious, where is the manual script to pull the unstable mains?
i got mine from here
Just tried that, and still no music for the MD+ 🙁
I dunno how specific cores work, but that should put on the latest unstable mister main, which you can verify at your mister menu cause it'll show you the date of the mister main that is running
Ignorant question, is it the fact that I have all of the files still zipped up, instead of uncompressed into their own folders?
I have left the .md, the .cue and all wave files each in their own individual zip files
for each game
I convered all my games to CHD
before that, i used bin/cue format
all games were unzipped
and cd based games in thier own folders
Im unzipping them now to try
I doubt zipped CD image files are supported, that's why CHD format was created
Don't zip your CD images files, only villains do that.
CD systems don't support zip for any part of CD images
CHD is supported, but I hear there may be some specific settings that work best. Best choice is to just keep the image files raw
There are some recommended settings that help with the PlayStation core if you increase the read speed, but beyond that the only issue with using CHD are disc images that have an index 2 or later, which are uncommon
Thanks everyone, unzipping fixed it. I will say that if you start a game prior to mixing in the music in the core's menu, it doesn't come on until you reload the game.
Thanks! I updated the pinned core list.
Mixing in the music from the core menu? Musuc should just work if your cue file is set correctly
all i want to say is i feel like a Gangsta because I beat sonic 3 right now hehe
I thought it would have made you feel like a stranger in Moscow
how does it feel?
Well the game isn’t that hard in retrospect. But I was a Nintendo kid growing up so been playing a lot more genesis lately
All the cool kids were Nintendo kids growing up
Tate mode
Nice! I felt it was criminal no Genesis games had a tate mode.
Did you know Tate is short for rotate?
It seems that tate is less useful nowadays. TVs are larger, they have enough resolution that you can see all the pixels without rotating, and no overscan.
Yeah it's okay on a big living room tv
But then we're still playing on a flat panel, which is different
no. it isn't.
do i need a megadrive bios? update_all wasnt able to grab it
Yes it is, you’re not my dad!!
I still like to tate modern displays.
I don't know whether it should be verbified
Should I just use megaCD instead?
No, just for megacd games
(and MSU-MD hacks)
The megadrive core is newer/more accurate
Man, tate mode is so sadly underused on the switch. Cave at least had it available in their games and so did Downwell
Switch with the flip grip was easily the best way to play Downwell imo
Too late!
I was just playing with you. I did a similar thing with "verbified"
Tate will also never be 縦 for me thanks to the internet.
Why's that ? I figured you had already started studying Japanese before "tate" was a meme
(Though I imagine some other words would have been ruined)
I wasn't aware of the word in that context yet
short for rotate
Ro' Tah Tey
tate like andrew?
tate is short for potato
I agree, stop verbing words!
Achshually, Tate is what Super Mario 2 was originally called in Japan because it was a game called Doki Doki Vert in the US and they reskinned it for the Japanese market.
Of course, shit went sideways really fast with that move...
Mario 2 was called Mario Mario in Japan. It was a double play on words based on it being the second game, and also on Mario's last name also being Mario ( which is why they are the Mario Bros).
Naaahhh, you made that up....
its true
@kindred anchor what do you think of @ National Television System Committee
hate their guts
Do you mean Never The Same Color?
I just saw a mega ld system on ebay for 3.5k man those games look dope.
Made a build with paulb-nl's change that fixes the PAL game, Psycho Pinball. Also removes the PSG filtering.
Paul fixed that? He is a machine
Yup!
He hasn’t submitted a PR yet but he explained how to do it, so I tried it. And sure enough, it does fix the issue
Works great, thanks.
it will needs also a PR on nukemd repo
Who’s submitting a Puerto Rico?
Found a cute coffee shop in Saratoga that has a tube and genesis setup. Anyone heard of coffee crisis or life on earth? Are these newer?
I've played Life on Earth. It's...okay.
And yeah, it's fairly new. Released a few years ago I believe.
those are aliexpress cartridges if i've ever seen them
life on earth seems like a decent action-platformer, but i think the only standout feature it has is the boobs
Yeah they had physical carts of splatterhouse that looked more legit and I didn’t take out street fighter II to take a look
Also had a bunch of VHSs which was cool to see
No core is complete without all games running flawlessly up to the credits
Life on Earth is made by the plagiarism company
This is why you cannot trust YouTubers and publishers in the retrogaming space. This 2025 megadrive game presented as "better than most snes game" has assets traced over existing sprites (Wild Guns and Shinobi III) and AI-generated backgrounds. Garbage game, garbage company, garbage shill youtuber.
103
247
lmao
Yeah, Life on Earth also has plagiarism in it.
and not surprisingly, the game it copied the main female character from is not safe for work
No one complained when that Neo Geo developer made Kraut Buster or Gunlord.
nobody played Kraut Buster
Retro Gamer Boy reminds me of that Gamester guy were his enthusiasm outweighs his ability to perform critical analysis
Paul has been taken by the spirit
I see a JesusFish posting, Paul got mentioned and now spirits are involved? I stumbled into a church haven't I?
The church of MiSTer. All are welcome! ⛪
Yay. No blood sacrifice or tithing here it seems. Many thanks.
Well you'll have to sacrifice your cash to afford more controllers. Because in the church of MiSTer, we don't collect games, we collect controllers!
Reverend Robby
Real
I'm assuming that's not all your controllers right?
Oh of course not! These are only the ones I’ve used recently
Reverend @fallow dome Ruckus. No relation
what’s up with the sideways mister
Gotta so that I can have HDMI and Ethernet at the same time
It is called tate.
It was an old build from 2 years ago, not an issue on the current unstable build.
#1096614378968727652 message
Issue closed.
Now we just need to get to the end of the remaining games to confirm it
whats the new alternate vsync do?
it's vsync but an alternative version of it , i hope this helps!
Coffee crisis is not a good game, animation and graphics are cool but the gameplay is very bad... It's a shame for this game
Yeah, that's the general consensus I heard too, it also wasn't that great when I tried to play it
@bright pivot , @frosty stone and @obtuse plinth and @reef leaf are all Lemonade Tycoon fans 🫂
A real lemon party

NOTE: I don't own this tracker module! I'm simply uploading it here to show it off, and that everyone is able to watch it as a video without having to use a tracker-based player.
Want to support my channel?
Consider subs...
wondering if Golden Axe III is somehow busted on the MD core?
It slows down absolutely horribly when even a single enemy comes onscreen, it's very bad. But footage on YouTube seems to show it maintaining 100% gamespeed most of the time, very different from MiSTer. Does anyone with experience w/ the game know if the MiSTer slowdown is accurate or a bug?
I don't notice any noticable slowdowns with the current core version.
huh
also, there's sometimes a lot of sprite glitching with little lines and such appearing around sprites, like a less severe case of Strider on the NES
i've tried multiple ROM versions, so it's not the ROMs
What core version do you use exaclty?
latest, just ran update all
(i was ready to lambast this game on my Backloggd for its performance issues, lol)
which mister stack do you have?
No issues here on latest stable
og DE10-Nano, original analog i/o, BlisSTer, 128MB RAM, passes but does not excel the speed test
Whats a blisster?
an outdated competitor of SNAC that required its own hardware
Does it need modded core versions, i don't remember
Maybe try a different rom file, just incase there is something funky with the only have
it does, the LLAPI cores
To use the the adapters, yes
but you can run the standard cores too - just can't use the blisster stuff
Then it's maybe based on a very old core version
to be clear i haven't used a LLAPI core in several years, hehe
Herpes
I would definitely check the rom, Wave. Is it the US rom?
Worth trying to nuke the core settings as well
Aren't the LLAPI cores based on the older Genesis core anyway?
She said she’s not using the LLAPI core
But yeah, I would stay away from those and just use the official ones
Check the rom md5, nuke the core settings, hard reboot
An original DE10 nano shoudn't have any issues with the offical core.
*she
but yeah, i tried several ROMs, main one the JP version
Should be a win
MD5 (/Volumes/MiSTer/games/MegaDrive/2 Japan - A-Z/Japan - A-O/Golden Axe III (Japan) (En).md) = 7d9f963c9c2e22b542516edd03ada6f6
No issues here. Using the latest stable.
Redacted. Sorry and thanks
The US version is a Sega channel release iirc.
this has happened across three sessions (power off / reboot)
will nuke settings if wip core doesn't change
here's a little hdmi recording of the first attract demo
you can see the gfx glitches and the slow game speed
I don't get slowdowns. But when you progess a bit more you get some tearing and slightly garbled graphics around the sprites. As seen in your short clip.
Especially when the knights are on the screen.
yeah, the recent WIP core is the same
guess i can try killing settings
actually. weirdly.
i just reset the game to take a quick vidcap of the first level opening stuff and gamespeed is normal! (this is still the WIP core)
ok, i have a theory
every time i open this ROM the screen is rolling (CRT) because it's set for EU region for some reason
i blind-menu it back to JP or US without resetting the game
in this scenario the game runs poorly like in the video above
but i think that after resetting the core (with JP or US region already set) the game runs as it should
is on-the-fly region switching a no-no?
this is 100% reproducible on my side
I think it can cause issues. I usually reset after a region change. If you always want the core in JP, you can select it, then page over to the second page, and select save settings. that will make it load in JP every time
I actually think you can set a preference order. So I think you can do US >JP> EU
trust me, i did that several times. the EU keeps coming back.
US > EU > JP is what i had it at
Maybe the game is a bit buggy after all.
yeah very weird
in what respect?
Graphic garbage in certain moments of the game.
yeah i wonder if that is on real hw
Does it happen on the genesis core?
i went to test it last night and found i no longer have it. didn't seek it out yet.
yeah, i think i have that enabled, so i expected to find it here. i'll try again
oh. lol, played myself.
curiously... opened the MD + (Gen?) core. no ROM history. region set to US. open the JP Golden Axe III rom and it goes PAL again.
why does this game signal for PAL...
slo-mo gameplay just as before after region EU -> JP without core reset afterward.
(we should note we're not 100% certain this is the old Gen core)
The graphics glitches aren't there in the Genesis/Mega Drive + core, so it's indeed a bug in the Mega Drive core.
I'm pretty sure it is - the date is right
you're right; i see the CPU Turbo option from Gen
does this core not have Y/C support? B&W. (edit: nm, wrong mister config file was active)
seconding no gfx glitches on Gen core
Set the Prioritiy order to "JP > US > EU. Then the games starts in JP 60Hz
ah, i see.
for purposes of a github bug report should i be running last released build or the WIP?
ya
just played 10 min (WIP core) and didn't observe any sprite garbage or tearing. so i don't actually have anything to write up as a bug (unless on-the-fly region switch causing problems counts, which i doubt)
I got it with the WIP for sure. But i really don't know if it's related to the region switching. This sounds a bit odd.
did you reset the core after setting region properly, and still see artifacts?
i don't seem to
OK. I set the priority order for the Mega drive WIP core also to JP>US>EU, saved and reloaded it (so, no region switch at all). Then i played it a few minutes, no graphic glitches. Somebody should verify this behavior on a real Mega Drive, i'm too lazy at the moment.
question: I did a quick search but didnt see anything does the sega core support sega laser disc games
No
can it be made to play them
All the LaserActive stuff sounds like it's going to be a huge project to tackle
why is that
The laseractive format appears to be really complex and it isn't as easy as just putting an MP4 on an SD card
That's what I can remember from a recent discussion anyway
If there's one thing I've learned since joining the mister community (as well as the RetroTINK FPGA stuff) it's that the seemingly easy stuff seems to be the biggest chew
intresting I heard someplace there is a LD core being worked on maybe i misunderstood the convo
there is no shortage of people who announce they are doing things before they even start the preliminary investigation phase and then run headlong into a brick wall of feasability
Yeah I said I was going to start my tax return like 2 months ago
I’m here to announce that @fallow dome and I are developing a laserdisc core together. It’s gonna be amazing. Can’t wait to share it with you all eventually
Hello, Konami Justifier isn't working correctly on my Mega Drive core, even though it works on a Sega CD core. Can you please help?
There’s some Blaze hedgehog doom mod for the 32x
Someone tell me how it is. I copied it over and can’t be ARSED to play it
i played a bit of life on mars and enjoyed it. i remember being interested in playing the rest of it but the version i had crashed and the only way to play it was to buy an expensive cartridge or something. i don't own a megadrive anymore
idk something about that company just put me off wanting to give them money. the game itself was alright but it looks a lot like some other games i had thought they'd been a bit shameless in ripping off
they straight up stole assets from other games both homebrew and commercial lol
yea it's cool i bought the turrican collection for switch seems to be the same game
I bought their Evercade cart before I knew all that lol
Hi folks, update_all is pulling down x2 32X cores for me. One is dated 04/24, and the other is dated 04.26....any idea what's happening here, or if there's a way to exclude the older one via downloader.ini without affecting updates for the newer one?
What happens when you delete both of them and run the updater again
Haven't tried deleting both. I did delete the older one though, ran uodate_all, and it pulled it back down again.
S32X_20240418.rbf is the current stable that update_all will get
the latest unstable is #1096614378968727652 message (manual install or you can add the unstable DB to downloader.ini)
Ah, I must have manually grabbed the 32X unstable so (and then proceeded to forget!). Cheers for that
Yeah that was definitely the case. Deleting both would’ve fixed that and update_all would just download latest stable,
