I added the PDF manual to the docs/Jaguar folder... so I can bring it up anytime.

Shinto has gotten both single and dual cores setup now... and will hopefully be putting together some sort of comparison between the physical Jaguar console, BigPEmu, the single-RAM core and the dual-RAM core. We haven't quite figured out the best way to do it, but I think he is going to start with setting up all four systems, side-by-side and just recording video of them all. Given that the MK beta 2 core has an onscreen frame counter in the "Soak Test" mode, that might be useful.

#

Shinto is a bit of a perfectionist so I have no real timetable for when we might get a deliverable from his experiments.

I just made a video showcasing the sigle-RAM core. My setup sucked... I had no mic so no talkie-talkie during the capture... and I had occasional issues with sound glitches and less so with video glitches... but it ain't perfect. Anyway, here it is:

This week the Atari Jaguar core hit a milestone. It went from in-development to production and is available to everyone via the normal MiSTer FPGA updates process.

During the course of this video, I try to show how well the core works. I'm running the single-RAM version of the core which generally works great... but the dual-RAM version of th...

It did get flagged for having copyrighted music from Russia and Belruse(sp?) so it is blocked in those territories. That was caused by playback from the CD+G media for "The Planets" which has some symphony music in it... which I guess must be fairly well known. It kinda sounds like it came from Star Wars or something. 🙂 Anyhoo, that CD+G has some of the best graphics of the 31 titles I converted so that's why I wanted to show it. The Japanese Bird Songs 2 didn't get flagged. 🙂

#

Just updated the description and put in a lot of info about the alternative BIOS files.

gentle bobcat
#

Ok, spent some time and got Zaparoo going. It is definitely more fun to use than I thought it would be.

#

Also purchased the mobile app of MiSTer Companion and used the mobile/smartphone onscreen controller.

i saw some visual corruption on the dual ram version on one of my stacks, so I am DSEing 50 builds. I clicked the "stop if any build meets timing" checkbox because I'm an optimist

who's this?

uncut atlas

with cheats on there's no chance

mental briar
uncut atlas
#

you could ask the author to set the registers correctly

#

if he sets them properly, it will adapt properly

#

it's neat that he's releasing this game based on that new movie though

gentle bobcat
#

Here's where I (again) mention things I don't know about / understand. I recall one of the things GreyRogue did on the last build of the single-RAM core to alleviate bad stuff... was he reduced cheats from 32 to 16... whatevers.

Plus cheating is for cheaters and everyone here are fine upstanding gentlefolk

Yeah it is

mental briar
#

silicon lottery

tropic rock
#

I could not get a good build on single ram until I reduced the max number of cheats from 32 to 16.

tropic rock
#

You can delete four of the five lines and just leave the define for 16.

#

Note that I just checked in a small change as the version I had checked in will not build

mental briar
#

I can close that now if you got it

tropic rock
#

Oh. I missed the pr.

mental briar
#

no worres, I will close it

#

or maybe I never actually PRed the change?

tropic rock
#

Anyway, you can change the 32 to 16 or delete the four lines. Either will work

mental briar
#

ok

tropic rock
#

There is a pr there

mental briar
#

yeah, not mine though. weird

mental briar
#

maybe I didn't pull it out properly but slacks seem similar

tropic rock
#

Maybe the slack is different for dual

mental briar
#

This is what I changed it to (and it built fine)

parameter DATA_WIDTH = 8; // Not more than 32
parameter MAX_CODES    = 16;
parameter BIG_ENDIAN = 0;```
tropic rock
#

Does it still have the glitches on your silicon lottery failure?

mental briar
#

I have not checked. I will in a bit

slender valley
#

I am guessing these cheats can do more than you could do with something like an action replay?

#

Wait, nevermind, I thought I was in the saturn channel for some reason

mental briar
#

new build has no artifacts. put it in the repo

gentle bobcat
#

It doesn't seem the selected BIOSes are saving because mine keeps going back to the stock BIOS. On the dual-RAM core. Can anyone validate... on the core released yesterday?

#

In a YouTube comment, someone is asking me if the core supports a spinner contoller. I believe there is hidden support for that in T2K and I would guess that it would work. Anyone know for sure?

mental briar
#

it certainly supported it at some point. I remember using it in tempest

dreamy hinge
#

it does

#

you have to enable it in tempest via the hidden sequence. I don't know where it is now but the menu had an option to do the P1+P2 start push/pulse that you need to do to access it

#

although have fun with the bonus stages with just a spinner

glossy iron
#

In Bonus stages you should use controller 2

gentle bobcat
#

Use controller 2 in bonus stages for WHAT?

#

Thanks for the info.

dreamy hinge
#

to move

#

becaues you have to move up and down sometimes

#

although I suspect on a "real" modded spinner controller you'd just flip the switch to revert back to dpad

glossy iron
#

To have them playable ^^

gentle bobcat
#

Oh, I think some controllers that have spinners also have a Dpad?

glossy iron
#

Yes

#

Some original controller mods had the spinner separately to a dpad not replaced it

upper lodge
#

yeah, the modded controllers I've seen just put the spinner on the back

Looking forward to when the Tempest arcade core hits update_all. I definitely played the original Tempest arcade when it was in arcades... but I wasn't very good at it. Then years later T2K came along... and it was/is a pixel shatter rave dance party... which makes the original Tempest look boring. When I heard someone had just produced a Tempest arcade core... I thought... I should try the original Tempest again. I haven't gotten the arcade core installed yet but I did play the original that is included in T2K. I had to turn the music off because it was just too distracting and not like the arcade... but I got about halfway through the second (red) group of levels... so obviously playing so much T2K helped. Quite a few of the web designs in the original Tempest are NOT used in T2k so it was also fun playing quite a number of webs I hadn't seen before. I'll definitely be playing the Tempest arcade core once it appears on my MiSTers. Would love to see a Tempest arcade contest on this fine Discord once that happens. It would be the first one I participate in. I was kind of disappointed that T2K doesn't have a separate high score list for the original... so my high score from that will never appear on my high scores because T2K just has so many more opportunities for points.

I turn 62 in August. COUGH

In my own self-image, I'm still 30-something.

I'm slightly younger (59). And yeah, similar self-image

When do we put you guys on a retirement home

gentle bobcat

Hey, I'd love to retire... but will likely wait until 65 for medicare. Don't think I'll need a home anytime soon though. Hoping to just fall over dead before needing something like that.

Yes.

uncut atlas

okay well, the outcome is kind of predictable then

#

bigpemu will probably be faster than real hardware and mister will probably be closer to real hardware (on dual ram)

gentle bobcat
#

Yeah, accurate beats fast 100%

Have the latest unstable core and stable core and having issues with memory track. When forcing it, it boots into the memory track plus menu and I can't load any games.

dim sundial
#

Turn off the force memory track option. Forcing it only allows you to access the internal memory manager. The memory track BIOS should be loading already.

#

you don't need to force anything to play games

probably need to make sure auto save is on in the core menu

Hey, that's in Rochester, MN... which is South of Minni... which is close to where Paisley Park is... which I've been to. Anyhoo, that is too close to the start of the Fall semester so I only went with a virtual ticket. I wonder if they are open to virtual presentations?!?!?

why would anyone have a gathering in minnisota

gentle bobcat
#

Haven't checked, but I'm guessing its close to the Songbird Productions office? And maybe that's where it is held in the first place? (not sure) They don't seem to say where the venue in the announcement.
