I'd argue there is a clear difference between "here is a bunch of changes we want to make, let us know what you think" and "here is a thing we want to test, we have no plans to introduce this but we want to see the outcome".

That one may have been because you were in line of sight but its still exactly how they behave , like I said I have seen them being lead around like a flock by a player that was never spotted and hid where he did on purpose and yeah they moved across the whole map had him nearly surrounded and he was NEVER spotted the whole match but they followed him perfectly .

Personally, kinda? But not for reasons I expected. The "bUt ThIs DoEsN't FiX aUtOcAnNoNs" was where I had assumed the focal point would be. The focus on the outline and it's relation to lock on was quite left field for me, likely for most players too it seems lol

Not exactly "on topic" but why don't the devs give us a splash screen stating what /when there is a public test going on and what specifically is changing for said test?
I've seen a lot of social media with players absolutely clueless as to why the game play mechanics "aren't working correctly". And you can't rely on Friday twitch streams to reach the masses.
If it makes X% change, and then you can make an accurate predictions of the change based on a baseline after. Then run another test, and see if accurate.
Not saying that is the case or plan but the data isn't suddenly irrelevant. In fact doing it now makes more sense as it gives a chance to compare if a test is done later

Well I for one think this sucks 😕 if I want to play a war gaming game with an irritating aim ill go play WoW legends , WoT modern armor is already a pain with fore mention outline and colors issues . ( thats why I love those ice camouflage skins from the winter event at least there is one tank on the enemy team ill be able to make out through bushes , shrubs , trees and 72 other cluttered obstructions ) . Sorry if this all sounds like im ranting , I try to sprinkle some lols in with the salt .

Correct, the name gold rounds is because they were once gold only. The complaint at the time was that made them P2W and should be available for silver. But when the change came a surprisingly large (to me anyhow) group were unhappy because it meant they'd be fired much more now
When i first started playing back in the early PS4 days, it was already silver, was it Gold too here way back like Xbox 360 days? or console never had that?

I want to sincerely thank you , im an old fart and I tend to be a tad too quippy ( yeah gonna go with that for purposes of not being banned lol ) on some subjects but I have never seen someone level the field as masterful like you did . Mad props for that and for the player perspective that completely threw me off like Whaaaaaa 😲 . If the rest of the industry had your mindset i think we would be rather close to Ready Player One at this point . The industry needs more of you . So you all are planning on doing a test with auto lock with curret equipment and skills(current test). Then revert auto lock to old status when equipment changes. Then nerf auto lock again when enough data is collected on just new equipment and skills with old auto lock to get accurate data across the board?
Im asking this because you can't test 2 variables at once that's now how it works and is indeed how you get irrelevant data.

I know i am messing with you, but at the same time, in the state the game is right now if you remove premium rounds bottom tiers are going to be next to useless against top tiers more times than not.
As someone who NEVER uses them youre wrong. It means you can peak your turret in a bottom tier without getting your head blown off. Please stop pretending golds are balanced

I like the idea of a +/-1 test. I honestly don't understand the problem that some have with BOT games/lobbies nor do I understand the problem people have with others just wanting to play this game as they have for almost 12 years for fun without worrying about stuff like stats.
I'm not trolling I truly don't get it. I read the comments & they make no logical sense to me why people get so upset with how others want to enjoy their game & free time.

I dunno. I'm about as average as it gets, like I can use the 50% fence to steady myself when I'm drinking I'm so close to it. Plus I'm old. Not older. Old. And I'm quite enjoying the test. I've had bad days (today was far from great) but overall it's been a good experience. You can tell who's been relying on snap shots simply be reading their replies.

No. I find gold marks in era 2 similar in difficulty to 3 marks at tier 10, as you can tell by the quantity of them. Honestly gold marking some era 2s should be much easier than 3 marking any tier 10
No? Cold War marks are way easier. Cold War gold mark is a tier 10 3 mark basically

Auto aim doesn't select the closest tank. How does it select the tank if there are 3 or more tanks you are facing?? In my case I had 2 tanks in Ruinberg down the street I was duelling with and one tank came down a nearby cross street and I hit auto aim multiple times and I died before it even selected the closest tank I was pointing my gun to. Someone please explain how that is supposed to work. That didn't seem right to me.

3 marking most tanks is easy with enough dedication, Gold marking (Without bot farming) now that is the real challenge.

Yeah it goes all weird when there are several tanks present, i had that too, even if my reticle was centered on the closes guy in my face, for some reason it sometimes picks the lonely far away target.
Why we need auto aim is due to the reason how some of us see things. I have an issue with one of my eyes due to which my vision is blurred and auto aim helps me playing. I do not want to take advantage of auto aim just for the sake of it and mis use it. People with normal vision who wear glass do not fall into this category. Some comments for persons like us giving up the game entirely and playing offline games is pathetic.

When you go and look and it's mainly tds at tier 10 with 2 marks.....was going for 3 on leman but I need so much damage.....
So you can see everything in the garage and the menu, the rest of the hud like hp and ammo but you can not bring the cross hairs over the target by yourself? Just asking.
garage and menu isnt trying to shoot him, he has all the time in the world to look at those
When you are in garage, reaction time doesn't matter I can take as much as time I need to figure things out. It's not the same in the actual game. Forget multi-player even coop is not easy. Try playing with your eyes half closed to get a feel of it.

The reaction argument is still not the best because this is not battlefield or cod. I guess in wot you don’t need good reflex to play the game.

That's fine, I appreciate it, I just wanted to highlight our perspective as there were many comments mocking us. Even my eyes were perfectly fine till mid 40s. You never know how things change.
You do need a bit of reflexes if you want to make shots in the right time or quickly get a fast weak point shot and remove yourself from danger, you don't need them to play, but you need them to play better, or be more effective.
After all muscle reflex is your brain telling your fast twitch muscles to do something snap quick, like finger joints moving at command.

Just said that you don’t need that much of it compared to other shooter games where you have to bring the cross hairs over your target by yourself.
There is a little bit of that, but is mostly related to shooting and quick corrections.

It seems to me if I'm looking in the direction of three tanks withing 200m, and autoaim is "supposed to" work and I hit auto aim, it should lock on the closest target first, and then next closest next and then if I hit a third time it should cycle to the last tank. I don't think this has ever worked that way.
Of course it would also be nice if you could target the biggest "threat" first or the highest dps tank first. Maybe an option to select the targeting method would be a constructive suggestion.
But before that I still would like to know how is it SUPOSSED to work NOW?

Not worth the hassle , no real improvement to game play , more negative then positive, ya sure its playable , but just a hassle and unnecessary, I dont think modern armor us counting on the spotter looking out to identify targets , so its less realistic, simply add a targeting delay to avoid the snaps , at least allow the target to be located and centered , I always manually aim anyways the lock is used for general orientation
I also think with the most recent change this issue is more apparent to me because I'm using auto aim more specifically in these types of engagements... up close fast and furious duels with multiple tanks and less and less to snap and zoom in to shoot long range shots.
Watch out the sweats will call you bad for using auto aim to lock in a general direction of a target, even if you manually aim the final shot. How dare you damage them

Yeah i hear you, and if i am honest i hear something about an issue with 3rd person were a BUG doesn't let you see the outline of the enemy but i had no such encounter yet.
I'm talking about multiplayer mode in cold war. I have only played a few games ww2 multiplayer. I have not tested in coop mode yet.
Me and my buddies are long time players who exclusively play world war II. We do not like how the auto aim was changed. As a more casual player, it's making it a lot harder to aim your shots well. It takes a lot more time to line up your shot.
My buddies and I are rather upset about it and would like to see it reverted soon.
Not everything needs to be changed. The auto aim system worked fine and is a core mechanic. I don't understand why it's being changed.

Maybe they can find away to use auto aim to identify threats per say to give quicker orientation vs directly aiming at a tank maybe if u want to avoid the cheap 1 shot kills which is what I heard this change was about partly anyway

Accuracy on the move is what made it as good as it is now, and with the blanket nerfs to accuracy coming I feel like this kind of thing is just redundant

For me i dont like the auto aim rework thus far... I use auto aim as a quality of live thing. For example if I'm aiming at an enemy I often use auto aim so that my gun stays on the target while I look around to see if I can shoot someone else. And if I decide to shoot on the locked target I switch to sniper mode and beeing still on the target and than take the shot manually without auto aim
Agree… I use it less for aiming… more for locating (range), tracking and maneuvering. It’s like the DEVs don’t play the game.

What do the auto aim changes have to do with being able to guide a missile? Those two things don’t affect one another
I think theres an issue when the casual community is so bad they have to rely on an aim-bot system that people have continously have complained of. But go off i guess. Maybe its good the skill floor is going up.

Thanks to everyone who has come into this thread the last couple of days & voiced their opinions about this test. It's nice to read more than the same 5 or 6 people posting for a change here agree or not I'm very glad to see some new names here posting 👍. I like many of you am a casual player. I'm also old & suffer vision issues. I love WoT on console & really hope that this change stays in the trash bin but that's just my opinion. If WG keep up good tests like this. I feel that the equipment changes may not be disastrous after-all.
Mostly that is going to be Devs making some options for the handicap, but the problem is that the game is a Multiplayer PVP mainly, so you can't really go nuts to give a super advantage that some normal player might want to exploit, so you have to keep it very very basic, If you look at games like The last of US part 2, i has an amazing amount of handicap settings, but although i heavily applaud the stuff they did, part of it was done because it was a Single player game.
Yes. I can see how having disability settings would be troublesome to implement in a multi-player PVP game.
There was a mention that after the Skill/Equipment update they might test it again, but it is unsure at the moment, this might be the only one.
I wonder if that means that the update is coming sooner rather than later
Yeah a lot of players would exploit it, and we are back to square one but worse because there is now a cheating like system and the people with disabilities getting some perks, but the entire player system suffering from exploited issues, and i mean actual exploits.

You must have all the preimum tanks in both ww2 and cold war. I've been playing just as long, and have maybe spent $8k over the same time period.
This new auto lock is crap, as long as light tanks stay just out of your range they pick you apart. Even once spotted it’s sometimes impossible to get a lock while maneuvering and re-positioning
yes that is the point, to auto lock outside 200m you have to be aiming at them.
Aiming in a shooter is too mich for some people
It is just giving another advantage to the overpowered light tanks in the game like the weasle. They pop in undetected from a blind side lock on and move out a bit a tear a heavy apart, I call bull on that

Ah lucky that the Wiesel is going to be nerfed and the Auto aim test is ending this Tuesday, after that everything back to normal until the update.
Final take, after 4 years of playing every day, disabled and old, i am finding the game boring to the point i am loosing interest. Surprisingly, this one change really ruins this game for me, makes play laborious and tediously uninteresting. Even though i am scoring about the same if i survive the first minute or two. I think i would stop playing if this is implemented. Though i use feature to find tanks rather than snap shoot. Oh well
They are doing a second week of testing, I usually play 2-3 hours everyday for the past 7 years… this week I never even came close to the test drive challenge. Maybe 1-2 battles and said screw this

Been playing since the beginning. Not a fan of the reduced aim assist. I’ve used it for years for target acquisition. Once I have a target I switch to manual aim to attack.

I use the map quite a lot. The aim assist would tell me what of the distant targets were able to be engaged in stead of manually checking each target to see if it was blocked by terrain.

That has been the main complaint with this test actually. The tank “outlines” are not functioning as they usually would. Making it hard to judge if they’re safe behind terrain or not

To be honest i never in my life seen players complain as much about the auto aim, as the outlines, those are the real problems, lately WG seems to focus on the things that hurt the game the most instead of the actual problems.
Do you remember pre 6.0 when they added what they called a screen door to the outline & how helpful that was?

So it was a way that you could look at a target & there would be different shades so like looking through a filter to see if terrain or a dead tank was blocking the shot. It was IMO very helpful Jeff Gregg & RC did a great job explaining it in streams

If the intent of the auto-aim changes is to encourage more long range fire, then I think it is a failure. We are one person controlling 4 tanker functions. The least we can expect is that the gunner can obtain and acquire a distant target while we are driving the vehicle and scanning for enemy threats. If anything, make the long range auto-aim more accurate.

You did a great job. For such a fundamental change, every bit of feedback is important.
It's just a shame that there are so few of us here to give our feedback, whether for or against the change.
But I think it's clear so far that the majority of the very good to excellent Unicums on the site are in favor of the change, while the poorer players and casual players tend to be against it. (That's my assessment, but I could be wrong.)
In general we UNICORNS also got into a Medium balance about 1st we don't care if we are really honest, not speaking for everyone but a lot of us could care less about this test, only a minority claimed the "GIT GUD" statement, but in general if there was no bigger update on the horizon, this could be a bit more important, but what a lot of us really got from this is that there is a section of our players that:
A) have some type of handicap and depend on auto aim (No problem because it has been in the game forever).
B) Super Unis can adapt to most changes unless they are not fun like the Match maker test, (Ignorant players had the idea the we were not happy because we could not do damage to players because we want Potatoes as enemies, no our effectiveness was still on match, the issue was the games being one sided and loosing by force no matter how well we played).
C) This test was interesting not because of the game, but it opened the eyes to problems of the player base, not the game itself and some unbalanced tanks.
D) This test is quite irrelevant for US players given that an update that will nerf accuracy is coming and that is going to be the interesting part to try out and also pay attention to the players that will criticize that system but based on their own bias and not the game in general, in other words... (Good players will test and give feedback, no matter how good or bad they are at the game, Bad players will want changes based on their biases, this are the problem players to look for).

I did plenty to curb snap shot tank destroyers and medium tanks. Who now had to actually aim, coming from someone who just two marked the T-54. It felt genuinely fun and rewarding to earn every little bit of that dmg.

It empowered the yolo light tanks in cold war. More impactful in ww2 with taking longer for players to aim at weak spots than auto aiming with premium rounds. I prefer the way it was though. Need to get rid of bleed damage. That would be the bigger benefit to players. Make those mini gun tanks use HE.

Personally, I think this gave them the data to see how insanely out of balance the tiny CW autofire tanks are in the game. I played almost entirely CW this week and 50% of every team was some combination of light tanks with autocannons. Absolutely bonkers.

The targets/victims of RB/RT lights have to actually aim (while leading a rather fast target) to try and counter, with the added trolliness of light tank hit boxes, while they rack up thousands of damage with little to no effort. Change auto aim to just snap to targets and have players actually aim if they want to earn damage. Just my two cents.
i have redownload WoT for these live tests. its good to see WG taking steps to reintroduce player skill to the game. the main thing that i dont like about this auto aim test, is nothing i cant get used to. Keep this up. im looking forward to playing daily again!
Last thoughts
From what I’ve played seen and read the main issue is towards cw mode mainly auto cannons at long distance that what I see
In general for cw near enough all tanks are all the same for speed and game play style so hitting on the move is too accurate for the speed of the tanks at far range
Going back to being familiar and speed and huge view range it’s easy for tanks to manoeuvre whilst locked on especially flanking the enemy behind solid cover
For ww2 it’s a different kettle of fish there are so many play styles and types of tanks on offer
Plus without some tools and equipment from cw to help with manual aim or cover the outline only does so much and not that detailed at range that auto aim is essential to either 3rd person shoot or line up a shot in 1st person
Like I said above for ww2 tanks are a tin of mixed wrapped up chocolate
There is so much variety of choice to choose and mix in the match maker and unlikely to be rushed by the whole team within the first minute compared to cw
If anything what happened in the tog that rng plays a massive factor if a shot hits nevermind pens
As for the this changes you've make the TD more or less unusable. Since they need the help from spotting to be functional for the rest of the team and then remove the warning for the opposite tanks, so they don't know they are spotted or targeted and make them visual 100%. This changes is like undercooked porridge, it's eatable but not good!!
My conclusion is auto aim with snapshot sucks,it miss or bounce 75% of times, but it is good tool for beginners to start playing game, players over one year don’t use it or just for targeting

Personally I didn't consider auto aim a massive issue as it was almost always inferior to an aimed shot. However I will recognize that I alongside most other players use auto aim very often to find targets and keep the gun on them. I think the first part is problematic, particularly at range where you can just tap right bumper at every icon until you see a red reticle on a target you otherwise would never visually identify. Typically I would argue that gun handling during hull and turret traverse should be targeted but that was before I knew this was even possible. The major issue with the test as it stands for me is the target identification aspect, and I believe this is the issue most people are complaining about whether they recognize it or not. Since we now know target outlines are directly tied to your ability to auto aim a target, this poses the biggest issue.
If WG can separate the outline (and hopefully improve it to PC standards) and instead use a different indicator for auto aim we will be in a perfect spot in my opinion. This way gun handling does not need to be nerfed quite as heavily so as to still allow for somewhat accurate aimed shots while on the move

We started with the metal fest event then we played some ww2 tier 8 and 9
And mainly after that we settled for cold war he wanted to play sheridan and other atgm vehicles
He first made the issue clear to me auto aim for many players have replaced real aiming many players dont know how to aim for weak spots they simply auto aim and circle around their target
From ehat i remember from before 6.0 right? The auto aim was a tool too keep your reticle where you wanted it but you had to manually aim in the end

Also what we discovered is this and you can also go and check stats of tanks in the game
Auto cannons soft stat be it accuracy on the move or turret rotation is almost always worse than single shot cannons
Best example is fv107 vs the type 62 i the top era 1 chinese light
Fv 107 has worse stats but it almost never misses
But type 62 decpite having better stats misses quite often especially when auto locking
We also discovered another issue at range when you aimed your shot missed some times but if you would auto lock it wouldnt happen
I dont know what is going on
But i think auto lock needs to be revert to what it was
Its a tool to help you keep on target but in the end you must aim yourself
As for elderdly and disabled people i dont want to hurt their experience and ability to enjoy the game

Auto aim has been on the game forever, the mechanic is not the issue, the buffed accuracy is, and that is going to be fixed soon, so i don't see what is with the banter anymore.

I suppose I always thought of auto aim as just simply another member of the tank team taking care of that particular job. Obviously, there's only one person operating everything so he needs help. Auto aim was part of that help...
Definitely not a top-tier player and without it, I am religated to playing era 1 stuff just to survive...
The main problem is the massive damage they can constantly deal with very little issue given how high their pen is, so no tank is really "Heavy" given that some can be also penned frontally, and that is all due to the autocannons being heavily and artificially high pen.
If we are talking back shots of side shots is fine, but also they tend to pen even on angles and frontally, doing massive damage.
Well you could count it as your gunner keeping track on the target, after all there are several jobs your tank does automatically (Changing gears, loading, trcking and spotting), you could count them as your crew doing it's job.
That was my thinking.

WG has asked this Discord to not include Auto Cannons in this Auto Aim test. From what I have read here WG considers Auto Cannons as a separate item. Personally I don't know why. HKPROTUS is correct in his observation that Auto Aim has been in the game since day 1 on Console. Constant tanks reforged combined with an endless release of OP Premium tanks (in both modes, CW probably more) has lead to power creep and minimal tactics. I even saw an in-game tip encouraging Wolfpacks. Before Build 6.0 players have complained about long range snap shots but this again was more of a vision system mechanic with invisible tanks smashing players from unknown places. And in WWII mode it is still annoying to this day. We have dozens of items about to be changed. Leave Auto Aim unchanged until the dust has settled from all the new changes. Revisit it then if data indicates there is an issue. WG I would prefer your staff concentrate on the new items and not get distracted by low priority game aspects.

In CW co-op I'm noticing from this test more of my team doing the lemming train, and capping enemy base more often than it used to happen.
It seems as if: "I can't auto-lock? Fine, I'll run with 10 other players on one flank and take the enemy base".
So now I'm seeing an issue with this test. It's attracting trains and cappers.

I'm a lowly CW co-op player with my buddies (For us greybeards it hits the right 'Tanks n Chill' gameplay that allows for banter n beers while decompressing after work). So take this feedback for what it's worth:
Overall I think this change needs to be refined and done in a slightly less (seemingly) arbitrary manner. I'm not sure if that 200m has discrete gameplay relevance to other systems, but the binary on/off nature of it suddenly working - or not - while still being able to see our targets outlined in the distance, feels jarring and clunky during normal gameplay.
I don't need the long range snapshot accuracy. I almost always aim my shots anyway. I really just use auto-aim to alleviate one bit of finnicky tank & camera & movement control while moving or adjusting my positions in chaotic combat.
Basically for me, if my tank crew can 'see' a distant target enough to create that targeting outline on my screen, I would like the option (while panning my camera around) to maintain orientation of my turret toward's the target's general direction. It just feels more intuitive, smoother and more ergonomic in a console with console controllers, driving vehicles to have this one manual bit of tank control automated somewhat.
Like I say, me personally I do not need the long-range accuracy. And I appreciate the problems PvP players face with the current auto-aim / accuracy model.
But I think (especially for co-op because the Bots don't have feelings about this one way or another), a more nuanced system where accuracy drops precipitously with range while in auto-aim mode would yield similar benefits. While still allowing the basic ergonomic and Quality of Life assistance appreciated by a large number of people of varying abilities, preferences and so on.

New Auto Aim - is the Best rebalance at this year.
Test was great with a bit of tweaks regarding 3rd person outline and maybe outlines behaving like on PC it would be perfect
The test is a succes. You get time to react once spotted, rng is less of a factor. Playing with your brain actually pays off as you can not rely on RBRT.
I hope auto aim is removed to limit the yoloing and to bring the pace of WW2 down. Matches will last longer, another huge plus.
