#Linux mint boots into black screen after fresh install
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
follow thru the part where it says press e at grub menu. use nomodeset. then install nvidia driver from driver manager in desktop ,if applicable
Secure Boot must be OFF
ok
Can't find nomodeset
try the nomodeset. it's all exampled in the link
I have a display driver problem. I think you should know that
Windows booted then stopped and monitor said no signal.
I tried mint. An equivalent problem appears here, just instead of no signal, I get a black screen
but u get mint logo as it boots?
Yes
.
Then storage blinking stops. And black screen
Setparams
I am at some text editor after i did ctrl shift f1 and then e
yes exactly
aight. now see driver manager
Ok wait
and/or research linux drivers for ur specific display adapter thing.
Won't lspci | grep VGA do?
It's apu
see inxi -Gxxx for details
No card
It says no drivers needed
show output
Where do I enter that
terminal
well i gotta step off, but do some research on that device 1 model re: linux
this environment is running in software rastering mode, as shown
If I restart will mint load normally
So igpu is not fully functional right?
no but u can add the parameter to grub file as per link example, til u sort it out
Would you please have a cursory look at this
see if all internal gpu functions are enabled in BIOS
Windows 11 or 10 booting stops midway and monitor reads No Signal
APU: 5600gt
Mobo: MSI B550M PRO VDH WIFI
Monitor: Acer vg240y 1080p 180hz
I use HDMI cable that came with the monitor.
Everything was working fine. Then, one day, I changed the location of my monitor, from my table to a recess in the wall of the same room. It's virtually still in the same location. Then when I replugged my monitor to my pc, I saw Mobo startup sign and then it stopped and monitor said no signal. I could access the bios though.
I accessed troubleshooting menu by restarting my pc a few times. In safe mode, I uninstalled my display drivers using DDU and pc turned on fine. But I couldn't increase the refresh rate from 60 to 180. I tried installing display drivers using AMD adrenaline and as soon as the software approached the stage of installing display drivers, display blacked out and said no signal.
I have been trying to troubleshoot it and even RMA'ed my apu (5600gt). Tried with the new replacement 5600gt but the problem still the same.
I downgraded from windows 11 to 10. But problem persists. I got linux mint now. I'm compatibility mode, Lspci | grep VGA showed the correct amd drivers. When I installed mint from compatibility mode, mint boots into a black screen.
What is this problem? How do I solve it?
This is the reason I tried mint
How to ascertain that
just look around in it
Here?
Integrated graphics configuration
Initiate graphics adapter is peg
Integrated graphics is game mode
What now
Forced or disabled are available
well try forced
Peg or iGD is available in initiate graphics adapter
u can research those
just note ur changes in case to need to revert
I did this to improve performance of gta v. Didn't work
This is what is shows before black screen in normal boot
Did you go over this.
Nothing's working man
Neither windows nor linux. I even RMA ed my apu.
Hey man. I tried amdgpu install
Still linux won't boot without nomodeset
Suggets sth please sir
🤷♂️
Try Ubuntu 25.04
any distro that requires 'compatibility mode' just to boot live ISO, is an immediate red flag of incompatibility
@austere falcon
Could this be because of display driver issue?
9 times out of 10
It was all working fine. Had a display driver problem. Could t boot windows. Can't install mint
Neither fedora. They all freeze and no signal
Any wya to solve it?
here's what you do.
The display driver
boot in safemode, with nomodeset to desktop
prep. your usb with a flasher/loader tool called Ventoy.
I have ventoy. That's how I tried to install mint and fedora amd even windows
yeah so... experiment some.
Can't load the iso file in normal.mkde. have to boot the. With grub 2
Or wimboot in case of windows
try the latest ubuntu 25 that just launched. it has latest kernel. maybe that handles the newer AMD
Different cable, different monitor. Can they solve it?
I have HDMI cable rn. If I use dp or vga or whatever
perhaps different cable could be a try
another thing
if it's on MBR, try clearing it, as shown in underline,
then restart the app, and make it as GPT
end proper result:
cuz the linux ISOs absolutely should boot in Normal Mode
and when you boot, from quick boot bios menu, make sure you're choosing UEFI mode
OR try the opposite of what's checked above...
as long as you boot normal mode in second screen in ventoy, and normal mode from Mint live grub menu
I tried installing Ubuntu 25 4
Same problem. Ofc used ventoy and in grub2 mode
Also the system recognizes my monitor as none 1
That also bears our the display driver issue
I tried installing amd display drivers. Still can't boot without nomodeset
Yes it is mbr. Converting to gpt as advised
Yeah man. Did as you said. Gpt. Then repasted iso file. Still can't load windows iso outside of wimboot. Could load Ubuntu 25 4 in normal mode. But it just blackscreened on me again
Only nomodeset works man
I'll take my pc to a repair shop. There I will try different cables, monitors. Maybe that's what's causing the issue
Can I just unplug my case and load it onto the footrest area of a vespa and take it to the store?
No static current conundrums?
Yeah a hdmi to dp adaptor worked
