then click the hard drive or SSD .
press alt+prtscr and show pic
also why is this in small questions?
idk
it does not boot into windows and i removed it and tried to reinstall it and it did not work
it runs any other linux distro but it does not run in windows
obviously this is not a dual-boot if it ever was, based on that picture.
if you want to put Windows alongside that, shrink the ext4 partition using gparted app in a Mint live ISO environment
shrink by around 100 GB or 150
the make a bootable Windows installer using media creation tool method from download.microsoft.com on a WINDOWS MACHINE
or prep a usb with Ventoy on linux, (use gpt in option) and slap Win ISO on it
... wat?
look at the pic
i am
there's no Windows thing there at all
i know there was
well there isnt now
.
boot live if ur gonna shrink it
what'd ya do?
just reinstall linux fresh
it's a fresh install anyway right?
as in, very recently done
what's this then? ext4 is linux filesystem
I don't have a clue
did u mean the thumbdrive doesnt have linux anymore?
Yes
And does this mean I broke 2 os?
u blow it out for what
Files
that's why u use VENTOY
I have a chrome book for songs buttr it's for school
SO u can keep emergency usb for booting plus allow it to have common files - VENTOY
Okay what Is this
type password (invisible)
Uhhh can't type
ok shut it down
Restarting
go on your Chromebook. Copy ALL the files you need from the USB stick onto the chromebook local storage, or to OneDrive or Google drive
It is on chrome book
then see if the Chromebook Google play store has an app called "etchdroid"
Did
Uhhh blocked to firmware
u cant install etchdroid in otherwords....?
Yes
do u have android smartphone?
I cant
Yes
yah. does that run Windows or?
Yes
ok so the pic above means you installed as legacy
Okay
not the best if the computer is newer
how old is that computer that doesnt load linux right now?
idk
Years
8 years old it was released?
Think pad t450
It's 8
Yes
then it should definitely support the more flexible and modern UEFI boot method
should not install as legacy, as is currently
Wait
get your mother's computer. get ventoy.
Yes 8 years ago
actually, go into BIOS please
of this one that showing "efi vars not supported on this system"
go to Boot category, and show pics of what is there
cuz Mint installs as uefi also. i saw in DISKS it had EFI partition
yes, go to Startup category
for the option that is currently showing "legacy only" put as UEFI only
Those are the only options
u see where it says Diagnostics?
it's ok, u just need to reinstall everything as UEFI, and need to make Supervisor password in BIOS ( and write it on paper because if you lose it, big trouble in future)
set passwordd
Watttt
after that, go down to Secure Boot, and put to Disabled
last picture, set password for supervisor. (so you can change the boot settings)
What is supervisor
someone else set a supervisor password already?
???
im asking you
No
then set one
first thing in last pic. hit enter
i mean I suppose you could install stuff as legacy, it's just not as good
It's no problem for me
in the startup category, someone changed it to "legacy only"
which is annoying
anyway, you will need to prepare a ventoy usb on your mother's laptop
after it is prepared, u will get the linux mint ISO from website. save it, and then COPY it ONTO the ventoy usb
Can I use rufus
you may as well but ventoy is even better
Okay rn let me ask my mum
this is guide in easy wording for it: #1295816480256163892 message
or get OTG cable sooner. go to store today
and use etchdroid to prepare usb on your own smartphone
ubuntu
ok. and u want to add Windows to the same drive?
yes
how big is the USB stick you have?
u can see from lsblk command in terminal in ubuntu
also how big is the system drive?
250gb
is the usb stick prepared with Ventoy?
u mean downloading it
from the internet?
INSTALL means to MAKE PERMANENT TO RUN ON A MACHINE
DOWNLOAD means to TRANSFER A FILE from INTERNET or other machine to this machine.
please don't mix the two words
@unreal jolt what is happening?
u mean you're saving the Windows ISO to the hard drive from official website right now, correct?
(aka "downloading")
@unreal jolt
uhhh
rn im getting 7
so it should work
i have a friend that sent me
windows 7
ok see here first too
