#Dual disk, dual boot for Mint, but system boots straight into Windows.
1 messages · Page 3 of 1
yep. this is record for how it should look.
ok, done without any problems
now, I'll install it
or I have something to do before?
@ancient spade
hm?
.
.
so ur drive layout looks like how the previous record photo shows?
yeah
great
exactly the same
so yah install, choose the "something else" option
I hope GRUB works this time
finally
just tag me when ur at that chart page in the installer
the partition manager?
okay
see the reason the installer before couldnt use the 4 gigs space, is because the limit of primary partitions had already been reached.
but now that u have extended partition, it can hold several more inside of it
why does Linux has this limit?
is it right?
which yours is
did u click on sda6 and do "change" and u put USE AS: (efi system partition) ?
I imagine you did.
but yes, the photo is exactly right. continue on
yes, exactly
I think it will be faster than the last time
go for it
you might have to come back later to gparted, but no biggie. let it install and then test reboot after.
I'm not complaining, but why?
i have a feeling that this latest Mint 22 will mark the efi partition with a "boot" and "esp" flag. this will confuse your BIOS
but nothing u cant fix later with gparted
may not even be necessary
now I have to re-learn how to make all the modifications that I did on my HDD Mint
so did u install?
and did you get black GRUB menu with Mint and Windows show up ?
@fringe tangle
no
it is booting on Linux only
I'll try the Boot Repair first
no no
boot the Linux install up to its desktop
then do efibootmgr to confirm if it's legacy. (I'm 99.9% sure it is)
I hope I can boot into Windows
then open DISKS app, and see WHICH partition has the bootable note
"EFI variables are not supported on this system"
oh-
Windows partition isn't mounted
can it be a problem?
no no it's fine
ok so nowww.
lets go back to the live USB
from it, u will open gparted. and show it . to determine what flags are where.
excellent.
well it has the right flags. now just do boot repair , recommended repair.
can close gparted first
u did boot repair already?
yeah
ah nice. test both OS from grub. make sure they boot
ok, lemme test it again
(I'm setting my Mint)
Cinnamon is very beautiful
Win11 booted successfully
oh neat . what thing did u get for linux? Mint 22.1 Cinnamon?
I need to install it, I used BalenaEtcher again, because I need to watch a tutorial first (already used Ventoy, but never used SuperGrub)
supergrub is basically a small loader with orange screen. it lets you scan for all possible OS on the system and gives chance to start one
I install it with an ISO file?
in case the maindrive master boot record is ever broken
I'll send u link
I really get used with XFCE, I'll need to learn everything from scratch
and I can erase Linux from my external HDD without any problems, right?
um lol idk
this is oldschool legacy BIOS.
but probably you can, u would jst need mint live USB again with boot repair.
you can also easily replace Mint Cinnamon with another linux distro
oh, neat
but yeah make yourself a ventoy USB
then u put the Mint ISO, and the supergrub img on it
Cinnamon looks like Win10
#1200928716415566005 message
Send me, pls
can look like a lot
.
thanks
how do I put the icons on the middle?
my old Mint cinn.
put panel in edit mode. then drag the applet called 'grouping window list' to the middle red zone
so r'clck panel: edit mode
looks like Win 7 for me
yes sort of.
grouping window list?
where's that? I can't see it
right click panel and choose "applets"
in applets list, u will probably see it. when u click it, it will glow briefly in panel
uh, no?
if u have time, sign into Discord from Firefox
then u can make screenshots with alt-prntscr n show
I think I'll do it tomorrow
and, I couldn't install my browser through the terminal
that's weird
well u have to do sudo apt update first
since this is brand new, there's no catalog of packages
see this vid from timestamp, for about 3 minutes, to se how change applets up. https://youtu.be/nZ59ps1cGvI?t=410
@ancient spade I love to show that I'm using Linux without problems (yes i'm back to XFCE)
ah lovely
neofetch alt version cuz I want
I would send it in #1016600711468961833 but I can't, so
u can, u just have to make a title, and a tag
I have to wait 1 hour??
uh if u already posted one, i guess there's a time wait
or ask a moderator to help u with it
I didn't post one before, so...
Seems like a discord issue, when that happens that channel or here or elsewhere, try reloading/restarting discord. Set to lower now too.
thank you bro
@ancient spade hey yo
bro, is there a way to modify Mint XFCE's login window to look like this
or this?
(I really prefer the Windows 10 one)
@ancient spade
I think you must install and use SDDM for that, and most importantly, you must enable that in terminal, or else it wont ever reach GUI
SDDM?
the login screen is a Display Manager
or dm
sddm is one that kde uses, and there are many themes for it, but research it to see if works to load xfce
I'll try to search it when I get back home
but looking at browser, some people complained that it doesn't work very well
and... how do I get back to this icon? I've changed and can't set it anymore
just looks for distributor icon
uhhh... @ancient spade
no, put the top field to All icons (and wait a bit) then just type mint or distributor til you see it
these are not the right logos (I'm on All icons already)
nothing
try this. unmount any other data drives u dont need right now from the file manager. just right-click each on left side
and 'unmount`
then go to the system root. press ctrl-L and do /
huh? why?
to search deep
and search .svg
or just boot live, and find the filename of that image from before 😛
then locate the file on ur system by searching from / for that exact name
nah, I think that I'm fine, just wanted to test if I can put the icon on the top panel
Cinnamon always revert the original icon, I don't know why XFCE doesn't do the same thing
I found the original icon on Github
Installed as SVG file
just tell me on which folder I have to put it
look
if you find the original svg file, pls send it to me
I GUESS I FOUND IT
nah, too small
right click this file, do "compress" or add to archive
make it a zip or tar.gz
then send here again plz
yeah, or something like grey but not too dark
or almost white, tiny bit of grey?
this one, cuz my own icon isn't white at all
gimme few minutes
k
and the gray one?
if it's too big, and the panel wont accept it, jusut resize it in PIX app, reduce by 90% or 85
right now they're 256x256
I don't know why it isn't on standard icon list
it may be in a folder called pixmaps
I thought it was, but it isn't
beautiful
let's see it
shouldn't it be on the far left?
kool, well glad you're satisfied
why do these look normal sized, and the screenshots u just sent look tiny?
before attempting that, i would highly advise you to do a Full timeshift save, INCLUDING the hidden home files/folders
(clear your browsers cach before doing that ofc)
(all browsers caches)
this specific screenshot is from bottom panel
I didn't remove the bottom panel icon until be sure that it would work
oh ur top one is much shorter height
last time I removed the bottom panel first, I was in panic
yeah i would be frantic too
just could solve the issue because I was using Cinnamon
make sure this before SDDM ok
yeah, I did it inspired by a MacOS MInt tutorial
well, if it is so dangerous, I'll think about it first then
and make sure u have live CD /ventoy just in case to restore the timeshift
u have to study GOOD how to enable sddm, and disable lightdm
otherwise u will boot to just black terminal
I saw it on a forum
Some people complaining that tried to boot and only appeared a black screen
this might be GDM, possibly
im not terribly sure
the windows-like one after definitely looks like something from kde, SDDM
@ancient spade can i get some help
i have the same issue
should i repair the boot like he did ?
hang on
i've tried the lenovo support link that u posted and it didn't work
the one for fast startup?
yeah
it's best to write in a new ticket, and explain all the situation in the opening sentence. (8 lines max)
