When I first heard about the upcoming Disney movie, Hexed, I was excited! Until they changed the main protagonist from male to female. So I wanted to fix that.

They've spent 10 years dancing around eachother, subtly flirting and staying up way past dark chatting about his adventures. He will die before they tell eachother, tho</3

this is the finished project actually
it was supposed to be a drink coaster but it's way too big so now it's a trivet

it's a gift for my mom for mother's day

hopefully it works as a trivet otherwise it will be a very large drink coaster lol (it's bigger than my phone)

it is made of two strands of cotton yarn, half double crochet in the round

the crochet hook is a normal size in the first photo lol (6mm iirc)
i put it there for scale

it's not thick yarn on its own but two strands are
cotton yarn is good for heat and water resistance

i actually used two different colored ombre blue yarns that i don't remember the names of bc i got rid of the packaging (i did that a while ago, now i save it for future reference)

General tip tho is be wary of edges

You lose a lot of dimension if you only use an airbrush. Using different brushes to render will do wonders for a rendering style like this

Easy answer is that it's basically shading. But instead of just shadows you also add the light, texture, and midtones to make the painting more 3d.

Btw I didn't go to art school. You don't need art school to learn that. There are many youtube videos that can help teach you for stuff like the fundamentals.

I used to be the same way, a graphic tablet (like a wacom or similar) makes it much easier as you use a pressure sensitive stylus to draw/paint. Also my teacher streams art on twitch sometimes and he is really good! His Twitch handle is ledeharme if you'd like to look him up.

One of the techniques that I use is to set up a mirror and do a self portrait. Just take your time and focus on the individual shapes at first. Forget details until you feel comfortable with your skill level in the basic anatomy.

I think Procreate on an iPad seems like the most user friendly option, and I don't have my own PC (shared with family).
I am deciding between the new iPad Air or the new iPad 8th gen.
Thoughts?

^ipad 8th gen if you don't want to go for the pro is also a good option, the last review difference I saw about the ipad air and the 8th gen ipad were mainly just that the borders were different but it all worked pretty much the same. Just remember if you want to draw you need the Apple pen which is an additional $100

Also for me, because of drawing using a tablet with a screen the change wasn't too hard. I did try a regular desk tablet awhile ago and it was okay but was a way bigger learning curve

It took me a little bit to adjust to using it, but one thing that helped me was getting a "paper-like" iPad screen protector that makes the pencil feel more like it's on paper than a screen. It's kind of hard to describe the feeling but it feels more natural to me

Well as someone who only does people I would say normally you start with the head do a stick figure to find where your weight is and build out so your physical position matches hands with head

Work bigger to get the handle of it working small makes it infuriating to get the motions right. I would get a 18x24 pad of news print and some willow charcoal and make the whole page a head a hand a foot then do whole bodies until you get the muscle memory

But I also only know traditional work tbh

All I know is when you have space for detail it doesn't scrunch together

Or if you want to only do digital o would reccomend a book called the animators survival kit. It will teach you pose and cartoons but if you can do a cartoon hand you can do a realistic hand. At that point it's style choice

If it helps at all I am really good at hands and bodies but cannot do land scapes for the life of me

When I was in school i asked to be taught more about land scapes and my teacher scoffed and said "those are easy do hands" so here I am.

You can definitely do it I would start with giving yourself quick guesture drawings and work from there

Sit yourself in front of a youtube video of someone doing an action and quick draw some line art

Frame for the motion and direction with basic sticks and use circles to fill in the shapes then you can pull open another layer and trace in details now that you've made a skeleton you can do the same thing with hands

She has some lovely patterns that tell you the thread color she used, the number of strands, and also how to do the stitches I recommend if you want to pick it up start off with a kit or two (drop cloth patterns has some good ones that cover the basic stitches) and then expand from there

(also if you're say copying patterns from the book, print up the page, place carbon paper ontop of the fabric you want to embroider, then place the copy of the embroidery on top and the press it with the little stencil tool thing is the easiest way to go if you don't have a backlight)

It's very meditative and that's why I like crochet and embroidery

Ty!!! I started working on a stitch sampler embroidery to change it up a bit. I have a couple cross stitch kits and I opened one up and was all 'holy heck' I'm use to embroidery being easier in that everything is outlined xD
