One reason I think is very significant is that some weapons are meant for long/medium range. I dont play any map larger than shipment on MP, so such weapons aren't particularly appealing to me. But on BR, they are obviously right at home. The ak117, just like the ak47, is a "traditional" ar, intended for mid range

you would have to consider its time to kill, its ease of use, and accuracy at range
117 is fairly slow on mp, with certain guns like the xm4 fulfilling the same role but does it better
in br, ak117 used to dominate long ranges due to its boosted aa. but after its damage at range got nerfed its not the best option for range anymore
