The normal assault rifles don't suppress as well as a sub-gun, since the bullets are very high velocity and retain their supersonic noise signature, whilst sub-guns can easily run subsonic ammunition which decreases the sound signature and doesn't give up much in hitting power and lethality. There have been some attempts to do the same for rifle calibers - see .300 Blackout - more on that later.
So, what organizations are now doing it trying to achieve the best of both worlds. They are taking rifles and shortening them. The first step was to carbine length with around 14" barrels (why the M16 became the M4) but now even further. They are increasingly fielding very short barreled assault rifles (9-10" barrels). Of course, with the very short barrel, substantial velocity from the original rifle is lost, therefore much of the long-range advantage disappears. But they are still difficult to suppress as well as a sub-gun because the subsonic rifle ammunition is quite a bit harder to do than a 9mm and loses a lot of effectiveness and lethality.
But the major disadvantage is that the rifle with such a short barrel has an obscene amount of blast and noise - especially in enclosed spaces. A few hours training in a building with full powered rifle rounds being discharged out of short barreled rifles is a very unpleasant experience.
One response to this problem is to make these short-barrel rifles all suppressed, but adding the suppressor just adds back the 5" or so of length you got rid of - and they still aren't really that quiet anyway.
One way this is being solved is to use the .300 Blackout cartridge in short barreled rifles, equipped with suppressors - giving an equivalent length to having a 12-14" barrel but having possibility of subsonic ammunition to keep it quiet enough when needed and yet be able to engage longer range targets with full powered supersonic ammunition when necessary (still won't be good as a rifle, but should be ok for, say, 250m.)

If you're going for range, noise suppression is never necessary. Standard military rifle rounds (commonly the .338 Lapua rounds for snipers) travel at supersonic speeds, meaning the bullet will hit the target a second or two before anyone even hears the shot. Noise suppression is only ever effective and justifiable in small caliber sub sonic rifles, commonly smgs or handguns. This is due to a significantly lower muzzle velocity alongside less powder burnoff, resulting in less gas being produced compared to larger calibers; making it much easier to silence the gun. The biggest issue with suppressed firearms however is that the ammunition needs to be subsonic ammunition in order to work effectively, otherwise a suppressor will actually increase recoil, effectively turning into a primitive jet engine.

As for snipers suppression is literally not necessarily in most operations such as desert snake and for some missions that are civil suppression will give the sniper couple of minutes to run however you're right more powder burned louder the sound gets and for some ppl adding a suppressor to a pistol isn't that necessary unless it's an assassination and using a high suppression integral suppressed barrel will make the gun more to a sneeze then a gun some ppl think less sound better it goes but still that gas needs to go somewhere

Exactly. Not to mention you cannot use a suppressor on regular ammunition. It would be pointless. The big issue of using suppressors on larger caliber rifles (7.62, 5.56) is that the bullet travels far too fast for a suppressor to have any beneficial effect. They then turn into flash arrestors which, while useful, is still pointless if you want to not be heard. You can not silence a rifle and expect it to sound like it does in the movies. They don't. They're loud. Only smgs really benefit from it since they have smaller projectiles traveling at slower speeds with less gas exiting the chamber. Sniper rifles and marksman rifles are never silenced because you never hear the shot that kills you. Depending on the distance (and bullet), you could be hit by the bullet up to 10 seconds before you hear the shot. Same goes for Assault Rifles. They quite simply produce too much gas to be efficiently silenced. The projectiles don't often travel that fast as Sniper/Marksman rifles, but they still have a lot of gas exiting the chamber. You could build a suppressor to reduce firing noise on an AR, but it would only lower the sound by about 15 to 20 decibels. Not worth it.

And as an AR you should use it for mid range that's been said if you go loud there is no need for a suppressor and not to forget about our lovely bullet velocity if the bullet velocity is too high it will reach the target way too fast and as you said the sound won't travel as fast as the bullet but for snipers silencers are useless in all ways possible unless you are in a jungle for example in the war that happened in Vietnam soldiers had a problem and it's how loud their guns are and suppressors are made way before that but now a days using a suppressor is just fir show on weapons and it's not too useful if the suppressor is small and a thicker suppressor means more bullets suppression not cause it's bigger let's state this it's cause the suppressor has endings to it or tunnelings if that's right and the gas gets traped there to get out slowly after the bullet exits the barrel and that makes a suppressor ofc this ain't the actual way it works it's just simplified
