If that’s the case JavaScript is a great option because JS can also make web games (and Discord Activities)
Ty
what was it that one called three.js?
Three.js, babylon.js, PlayCanvas, pixi.js, Phaser and more
That's quite a few games engines and frameworks to make JS games these days
i worked in pixijs was fun
though my game was literally blocks trying to eat other blocks 😅
Would it be possible to create a bot that notifies users when new missions are added?
How would you plan on notifying them? In general, the answer is yes, but there are some implementation considerations depending on how you go about it. (for instance, DMing people is a bad choice)
It would involve creating a channel for the bot, and the bot would send a message to the channel announcing the mission, including the mission name, the reward (whether orbs, an avatar, or an in-game item), and a game banner or image.
so you can create a role on the server and the people want the notification get the role
Yeah, that's pretty straightforward, very much doable.
Implementation considerations here would be how you store the config info for multiple servers (assuming it's not just on one server), whether you're using webhooks or not, etc.
Fetching Quests is not directly available in the API... so highly depends on how you plan on fetching available Quests... Discord Previews uses datamining to achieve this
who know lua in mta?
Hey guys, I just launched my card game in the discord activities. I need some people to test out the game for bugs/feedback. If you'd like to try it out it's called besugen, lmk if the rules are not clear!
Jak kogoś zgłośić
Nice! Do you have any screenshots or videos of it being played?
Hello, I have a question, how can I report someone on the forum, I am Polish
Any feedback is appriciated! Works on mobile aswell as desktop. It's a classic trick taking game like oh hell
But i'd like to add my own twist to it
might want to add a background to the user card in game for some improved clarity on the sub text
and on the mobile view... could use some left padding as the bid text is extremely close to the edge of the screen and doesnt align with the left padding of the buttons right above it
what do you mean "you"?
none of us here are trust and safety
oh yep that makes sense, thank you
and this is not a problem but just a suggestion... what would it look like with the lives above the profile picture rather than underneath? could save some space especially on mobile where every little bit matters
kinda like this
Tried to play it but there's no single player mode
Do you just want feedback on the game or how well it fits in discord activities?
Oh this is very nice actually
Yeah I just realized it's hard for people to try out, it doesn't make sense single player. I will work on implementing online mode so people can play with strangers
It really needs a single player mode of some sort to work. There's no safe area to learn the rules
Either against a bot or as part of a tutorial
No way you worked on the Harry Potter game ?? That was one of my childhood favorite man
Yep, worked on two of the movie titles 😄
Order of the Phoenix was absolutely magical
That was my concern as well, it's very easy to pickup but you just have to play it because it's hard to explain. I will implement this asap, thank you very much
❤️
You may want to introduce concepts one at a time
It's a lot of information to take in all at once. A guided tutorial game would help a lot
Even a very easy bot could go a long way
Overall, the game is missing an identity. Something that makes the game have a unique feeling. Eg hearthstone has the tavern and world of warcraft characters. Balatro has that joker character and theme that carries through the whole game
I get it, that's very hard to do but I'll think of something
Further testing for simple plugins (sonnet 4.5).
For complex ones (opus 4.6), it's performing exceptionally good as well!
Great results so far... We are close to launching 🚀
AI is capable of recreating well defined features like this but it will struggle with things non trivial and/or original
What tool are you using? Is this https://craftea.app/ ?
really glad!
Hey! I'm using modal for the AI compute infrastructure and react + typescript for the frontend. It uses Haiku 4.5 for analysis and validation, Sonnet 4.5 for simple plugins generation and opus 4.6 for more complex ones.
Yeah, it's https://craftea.app/
Opus 4.6 released a couple of hours ago, how are you already using it 😭
Oh I didn't see your first message
But still wild lol
True
I miss when opus was an audio codec
but its still an audio codec what else opus could refer to?
LLM model from Anthropic
Mostly about the recently released models with larger contexts. I'm currently givng Devin a good go with 3 agents in parallel to burn through a bunch of small tasks to see if the context switching makes sense as a batch
When you've got multiple agents running in parallel do they ever collide in files or do you generally keep their work separate enough that they won't be editing the same things?
I'm running them on Devin's cloud VMs so I don't while about clashing. I believe the ones you use locally, you can setup git worktrees that allow you to work in parallel although it's not a workflow I've used yet
Hey guys! I’ve been working on a project called Escapecord. It brings interactive escape rooms directly into Discord private threads—it’s got that classic bot-game soul but with a major technical upgrade.
To make it run fast, I developed a custom engine called Exorys. Think of Exorys as the 'motor' under the hood that handles the heavy lifting, while Escapecord is the actual adventure you experience. The coolest part: you can build your own rooms on our website and deploy them straight to Discord to play with your friends.
I'm looking for bug testers for an upcoming test run!
I need help to find some bugs in the system before the official launch on march 15th.
Hit me up if you want to help me:)
Out of interest, is this an async game or something with real time rendering?
It’s actually real time synchronized (sub 10ms latency).
I built it so, every interaction on the website updates the Discord thread immediately
Is it purely text based or is there a visual element to it?
Both, depends on the creators vision.
You can build a purely text based escaperoom or integrate graphics.
We also use interactive hotspots that link directly to a web view (unfortunately Discord hasn’t a function for images where you click something on it).
This allows players to search through images for clues and then bring their findings back to the Discord chat
Gotcha, just wondering if there was a visual element, would it make sense for it to be an activity instead?
I mean yeah would be, was also an idea from me to go directly to an activity instead of doing it via a discord bot.
But currently I am developing just an MVP, just to check what is the feedback about the game and what is the community saying.
I am probably planning to start the activity developing phase on Q3 or Q4, to get enough feedback about my game
who knows how to work in Intellij,i need help
I use JetBrains products in general... what's the question? Not certain I can help but I can try
Anyone can help me with the class new V2ThumbnailBuilder() please ?
In this npm package require('v2componentsbuilder');
why not just use DiscordJS instead of a 3rd party library that's an extension to djs?
Yes i would like to use discord.js but i don't understand what it work
I would like to create something like this
https://discord.js.org/docs/packages/builders/1.13.1 it has documentation
every one of those is a section component with a thumbnail accessory and text display
each broken by separators
(the bottom one is a section component with text display and button accessory)
Yes Thanks I made this
sos
do you need help?
yoyo ayone can help me with an roblox game? (pls write me in DM)
If you have a question ask it. No one is going to DM you. That’s a common scammer tactic
okok i wnat to write me in dm because im not very active in much servers
but thanks
Going into random servers and asking people to DM you isn’t going to help you be more active lol
If you have a specific actionable question you can make a post in #1130600438811590709 and those who can help will, when they have time
yoo so much thankss
Guys I made a good game 🙃 its actually bad than a beginner guy game btw I make it in mobile
🤣 what is that character
hii lina 💔
well try figuring out this would be a lot of help towards my self
godot exists on mobile?
interesting
s
i made a game
About
You are very good, of course, but my guess is that the sound needs to be changed a little because it hits the ear, but otherwise it’s good.
yea I'm gonna pretend i didn't see that
can you give tips
I've finished half of it, but I can't get it to work running or jumping. Do you have any ideas?
wdym
"get it to work"
Real movements...
did u use ai?
What does the whole sprite sheet look like?
Explain to me... which one are you referring to?
This character should have a whole image with all the animation frames like walking running etc. What does the whole image look like?
Whtsup
The one I sent is from 64X64
With more than... 6 Frames
As in it has 6 frames total or it has more than 6 frames?
Are you asking for tips on making the walking and running frames in the art?
That's it! I don't know how I would make her run without commenting on an animation error.
Try looking at other sprite sheets for reference (like mega man on the SNES)
And maybe focus on one frame to start with
Please, I am a first timer and I wanna explore so could anyone help me??
Does anybody here have VR game creation experience
I have a tiny bit, but it is better to ask your question instead of asking to ask. That way someone with more experience and time can answer straight away
what app do i use to make games
ph
well unity & vscode
but you can also use other engines like unreal engine
i prefer unity tbh
For advanced game use unread as it requires more advanced stuff to make
"advanced game" ??
whatchu doin??
An Endie 2D Independent Game
Lumines arise was made in unity and it looks beautiful
Its got a reputation for scrappy beginner projects but is totally capable of making big good ones too
I think its reputation is more suited to "low-budget cash grab mobile games", and combining that with the still ever-present negative discourse about the pricing changes, which were revoked almost immediately, some definitely still see unity as underperforming
But theres very little you need to avoid unity for in terms of engine ability imo
The same dev team made tetris effect connected which is same sorta style but in unreal iirc. It'd more be that lumines arise is much newer but while both look great, lumines definitely clears visually
Can someone teach me how to code
There's many websites out there specifically designed to teach people how to code
In my opinion, FreeCodeCamp is one of the best resources available. However, it depends on what you want to learn and achieve.
Learning to code can open many doors in life, but it's NOT easy and NOT for everybody. Let's take a look at 8 different techniques supported by science that can help you become a programmer faster. https://fireship.io/pro

Uhhh i did a game in gdevelop and it looking grah and im sad i spend 30 days on thid game
Ciao
can someone help me build a big project on games i know basic c++ and python
what are the things that i need to learn
i am making a game in unreal engine sir
im secound year student i need a project its unrelated to my domain but i wanna create a game like i need a starters guid

oo you know hindi
i do
they don't teach but you can learn
by there videos
and in which lanucher you want to start
unity,unreal and more
the best option is unreal
they don't charge money expt if you game reachs i think 1 m people
like if 1 m will play you have to pay them
but for unity you have pay -_-
@granite perch
bro accept my friend req
there's also godot
(also the term is engine, not launcher)
srry bymistake
oh i get it
but it is for 2d games na sir
Godot can be used for 3D just check out Road to Vostok
yes it is for 2d games
It’s not just for 2D games
Also regarding Unity, I wouldn’t worry about the 1 million mark
but unreal is nice na sir as it have blueprint option for those who don't know coding
If you reach it you have the funds to pay
c++
Unreal has the same payment system as Unity no?
If you’re worried about paying after 1 million
nah i am making a game in unreal
1 m people should join then we have to pay sir
i am not paying now because no player is playing 😭
but i am still making it sir 🙂
What type of game are you even making?
Also you don’t have to pay Unity unless you make money from it
it is a first person game
i don't think so sir np for i am using unreal
It’s fine to stick with Unreal, it’s a good engine but Unity is free if you’re not making any money from it
oo before when i started it was asking money
That was made in Godot? NICE!
yall prefer code first or editor first engines
i prefer code first engines because its way easier to use git with it
Generally, editor first engines
Getting assets in and building a world/level is much more straightforward
Yeah I really like to see things first, code second
Which... also means I polish first, code second
I have never made a programmer-art prototype and it's something I need to get better at...
there was no way it was made in godot WHATTTTTTT
apparently they started in unity and switched to Godot
Write my own engine 👀
Code first
Well, I prefer editor first engine, it helps to make a game better than code first engine
That's a really cool reason for that
I was wanting to learn how to develop and I was wondering if anyone would help me develop a Roblox game and so I can learn, not sure if this is the right chat to put this in.
which engine is better if you are new to creating game(unity or unreal)
I would say Unity out of the two due to a shallower learning curve but neither would be my real answer. Consider gdevelop when starting out
thx
Yeah Unity I think has an easier learning curve and a ton of great support and videos. If you're new to programming though I would look at some other options like Game Maker, GDevelop, RPG Maker, and even Bitsy for tiny projects
hello can i have Early Supporter badge ?
no, sorry
🙁
They won't, you can read more about it in this support article
This channel (and server) are for development with Discord's APIs though and this is off topic in here
The server is not dedicated to inappropriate conversations...
I've missed a few because life be busy but new week new free assets on https://fab.com/limited-time-free.
The stylized characters are interesting, reminds me a bit of Realm Royale if you know that game. Especially if you mix that with the spell VFX pack.
ooo vfx in this one
The treatment station pieces would be really solid for a dystopian game
I didn't look too much at that one, was caught up in the design of the characters
its actually so clean and detailed
like comes with emotions and animations
i mean like look at this detail.
Yeah insane. I'm digging into blender more recently to try to get my 3d chops up. Seeing stuff like this is so crazy to me
thats amazing
Bro
Blender is incredibly difficult, but Udemy has some really good courses; I recommend them.
it actually is recommended probally

some time ago I made the best floppy Winnie in scrips in unity since i would rather learn naturally rather then pay for assets, dynamic/phys bones was duplicated lol i could have made a master, soon ill get back in blender to Finnish working on my model for vrc long time ago i made model for mobile but when i got into vr it was a whole game changer
I figured out how to define gravity
Absolute beginner with game dev, im currently making a main menu but any thoughts on how i can improve it or which is better? On the right would be a render of a spaceship or something like that
I was about to say the one on the right would look FANTASTIC with a ship or blueprint rotating in space
Yeah, thats what im trying to do (with my horrendous blender skills lmao)
I think the menu overall is well laid out and clear. You could make the options themselves pop a little more since it's dark blue on a black bg but that's just a nitpick
Might be cool to have some particles gently floating by in the bg too to give the menu a little life
Yeah, i want to try add some more details to the UI however im not great at figma
I think even just making the light blue border around each option a little thicker will help them pop. But again that's minor. I think overall this reads very cleanly and works great
Yeah, thanks for that
looks very good imo
dots or some kinda of nebula-like gradient/bg on the buttons could be kinda cool (just make sure it doesnt make the text hard-to-read ofc), since the buttons kinda live in the background a bit
Anyone understand how the Wordle app is made? is it possible to develop something similar with GUI in discord?
Its an activity
oh thanks
is wordle open sourced?
No, it isn't
Okay thanks
Hi! We've got a game launched since last October, and it seems Discord is showing people as playing the demo when they're playing the full game. Is there a specific place to request it to be fixed?
Mostly want to see it fixed so we stop getting a lot of bug reports for it heh.
Is there a way to play activity without having to join a voice channel first?
From the apps button and I blehne you can also trigger an activity from a button using a bot
You can trigger one in a DM channel as well so you don't spam public server channels
thanks guys
i find it quite difficult to make a bot on vr
What happened boi
guy anyone know how to use Invite Management
How to have dev badge
You don't, it's gone
Okay thx
I had it but now it's gone.
Did they remove that from all accounts regardless if they had it or not
"It's gone" means, well, it's gone. It doesn't exit anymore
See #faq
Looked cool ngl
<@&1050493473033289778> constantly going off-topic and asking for Roblox stuff
Will discord activities ever support webtransport? I am using this for my game it is rust wasm
they have not announced any plans, but they almost never do until its ready to ship
🥀
👋🏼
Peace be upon you. I am Mustafa from the Arab Republic of Egypt. I am pleased to meet you.
Wdp
What is the benefit?
Nice to meet you also
I am also honored
I am jukini and casino game developer
Nice, physical slots or online games?
Hey im trying to find someone to help me code a plugin for a minecraft server i want to learn while people do it if anyones intrested dm 🙏
This is not a recruitment server
if you want to learn how to make minecraft plugins... you probably would be better off in a minecraft development server
not saying you wont find help here... but it's unlikely
alr im sorry man
no need to apologize for that one... i misunderstood your original message
a legitimate question to ask here (other than calling someone to your dms... we dont like people doing that here... common scamming tactic) this server just focuses on the Discord API/SDKs so finding developers for specific things like what you want... this is just not the best place
hi i have a question, this id is the custom_id?
any league of legends players wanna help me test a bot?
What’s the bot
a rank tracker
i need ppl that play ranked so i can test the bot on them
specifically solo/duo queue (for now)
Activity instance ID
The composite ID of an activity instance is a globally unique identifier for an activity instance in a channel. It is in the format
i-<instance_id>-<location_kind>-<location_guild_id>-<location_channel_id>, where <location_guild_id> is omitted for private channels.
any recommended stack to deploy activity with minimum cost?
i tried vercel for both client and server but didnt work
self host
Fair enough
google cloud run or firebase

most first party activities are either hosted on cloudflare durable objects or firebase
Thanks
had a lot of "he said she said" situations in my mc server, so i got fed up and finally made a plugin, that helps me record, and replay player movement. And for blocks? It doesnt record blocks. It uses another plugin, antigrief's database for that, because the block history data is there anyways lol.
Nice, has it helped with dealing with complaints/reports?
No. Its work in progres
And im actually making it production ready
with ux
so
i wasnt sure what i was gonna do
Thats sweet, except I was a little stupid trying to figure out what plugin would make him oxygen depraved on land.... I was like how was it applying that effect on damage. Felt really dumb when I realized it your name lol.
What do you want to code? A game (since this off game dev chat)?
Discord games are just HTML canvas games in an iframe, so you can use any game engine that exports to Wasm.
Or if you’re crazy enough then code it in JS. JS is good enough to do like SNES-era or earlier games. But anything 3D and you’ll probably want Wasm—though maybe N64 era could be done with JS, not sure. Haven’t tried 3D before
A 3D Game
Do you know any programming languages?
JS is fine for 3D games with WebGL 🙂 No need to go full WASM
We just shipped a new AAA-quality web demo: Elysium. Fully playable, multiplayer-enabled Kitbash3D world under 20MB that loads in seconds and runs in the browser. This felt impossible not long ago, demo link in first reply🔗🧵
Oh, cool! So Super Mario 64 in JS, but not Battlefield 1. Got it :p
Higher than N64 🙂 this was from 9 years ago https://youtu.be/TT7ugKuUMv0?si=MXF7zgmupGdHsyDz
An interactive WebGL 2 demo by PlayCanvas. (Please note that this demo is currently desktop only, with mobile support coming soon.)
All in JS? Damn
Isn’t that always the case?
Hence a lot are usually more simplified on places like Poki and Discord
yes
Which ones?
Find a good game engine for the language you know, for example:
- JS: Phaser
- Lua: Defold
- C#: Unity
- C++: Unreal
etc.
For the non-JS engines make sure it can export/compile to Wasm so it can be run in the browser
I know that Defold and Unity have Wasm options, not sure about Unreal, though
Unreal has a community exporter for it but realistically, not a great option for html5 target 😅
Yeah, if you’re doing C++ to JS grab yourself Raylib and Emscripten :p
unity and unreal
I’d have a look at Unity, then. Make a game, export to Wasm for the web
ok
i swear i've seen that so many times
anyone here that knows Pyxel Engine?
The python one? Looks kinda cool. Almost like Pico 8
h'
Bro you can use the /wisper command in minecraft solving this problem
Yeahh no
This has groupchats
And if u do the command in old syntax, the chat opens and the message u typed gets sent
ok ftb mods alr had that groupchat
If u type /msg username, it opens the dms between that user
But this is a plugin
And can be used for multigamemode cross server dms
What about Essential?
Ok nvm
Is that mod connect to your microsoft acc? to save all chats between versions?
h'
Can someone help me?
I wanted to know about that Discord v2 component to put in my bot.
I can't find the announcement in the API.
Thanks
The java language is so hard
programming can be challenging when you're learning... it can take weeks to months to become comfortable
Hi @pallid briar, I wanted to know if you have continued developping your pomodoro app?
Useful stuff💕💕
P
Hey ! Yes I'm currently working on it. I've restarted from scratch because I want to do something more "ambitious" than what I've done for the buildathon. I'm slowly but surely making some progress !
so cool! I'm interested in trying it out when it will be ready! 🙂
I'll reach out to you when I'll have some alpha ready !
Sure! Thanks! 🙂 I appreciate it!
What IDE and language are you using?
Currently trying out Zed and developing in Rust
Hello everyone, does anyone here know how to program CS 2 servers?
You dont need to crosspost in every channel
I dream of doing that but I need to improve my skills so bevy for this project 🤓
Unfortunate
Where can I check the developed games for Discord, or is there a specific chat for it?
can you elaborate?
hey guys
i just discovered an open-source project called GFS The idea is to treat your database like code every run happens on its own branch, and if something goes wrong you just delete the branch while production stays safe. curious if anyone here has tried something like this
Dont have much input, but just beware that seems to be a very new project
I literally told the agent to delete the entire database and it did but since the run was fully isolated everything came back
explain more
most people use reliable cloud sources, please dont promote here.
Oh dang
This is not an advertising server... If you want specific advice, you can send screenshots and ask
Sory
But the page looks plain, generic, overmonetized, and also features a violation of the Discord Community Guidelines / Platform Manipulation Policy
Invite rewards are not allowed as they are artificial growth
yeah that doesn't look like a particularly trustworthy project, and honestly the idea seems a bit questionable in general
I kinda like the idea though because one of the biggest problems we have is when switching between branches/worktrees that have different states of the database. It can make it quite difficult to quickly switch between either work trees or branches without having to reset the DB or reseed it or whatnot. For development this actually looks quite nice.
@crystal pewter
has anyone using unreal engine tried the social sdk and activities?
We did some testing with Unreal and the Social SDK when writing our guides. A lot of developers are using it with the Social SDK successfully too! For activities I think Unreal is a little tougher but probably doable. I think as an engine it's not great for web based games
Let us know in #1350223314307776592 if you have specific questions as you're using the SDK but also happy to answer any general questions about it here
I do agree it is unsuitable for activities, I just wanted to know how bad it would be :p
I thought that was strictly for social SDK tshooting
I'm actually not sure! I've made mobile games with Unity in the past and it was pretty easy but I haven't tried Unreal. I do know there are some large mobile games made in it so it isn't impossible
my concerns were with the performance like fps and stuff
Both should be able to make performant games. I think the best option is always the one you've got the most experience in
Looks like there are some tutorials out there for mobile unreal, have you worked in it before?

Lowkey I'm Missing that guy who used to send free models
@wispy talon You are wanted.
Any staff member to help me claim my game? Discord does detect it, but It's not in the menu - Steam appid 670510
Probably need to contact https://support-dev.discord.com/
Probably, i got the same annoying response
"If your game is on Steam and publicly playable, it likely has not been automatically detected by our system. We'll need to wait until your game is recognized before it can be claimed."
HOW do i make Discord system detect it? The game almost immediately initializes rich presence.
Afaik rich presence is completely irrelevant. Its about the game being out for x time and having enough players
x = 2 years+ in my case, any idea how many players is needed, for a single player game?
No clue, discord doest give any info on that. Its just based on the community trying to figure it out over the years
I hope the support team actually reply with something meaningful, not the usual copypasta this time :/
Also, it's really annoying that we can no longer use colon in the application name on Discord, many games do have colon in their name
id like to make a few questions if possible.
if you ask it... we might be able to answer depending on the question
ah sry my bad i thought everyone was asleep
Then who were u asking
I was going to wait till morning...
Basically I play a game called Rucoy Online for 10 years and today I found out that some players from it, have been using a Discord bot to make things that are impossible to do for a normal person, and I would like to know if there is anyway for me to get help to learn how to make it for me to use aswell.
what do you mean "impossible to do for a normal person"? can you be more specific on what type of actions you are trying to perform?
The thing Im looking for is a bot that tracks the player character location and some other features, such as their levels, boss spawn time and location, also to track the guilds and their members if their online or not. All this updating like every 30 seconds/1 minute. Idk if it is possible to make.
I already saw a picture with someone using it by the way...
being possible and knowing how it is possible is 2 very different things
if they do not expose a public api, then youre on your own to reverse engineer their api or the game itself to fetch information that is not normally available
For me, someone who doesnt know anything about Discord bots and much about coding it is impossible, but for someone who do know how to work with it, it is very easy and possible.
what you're trying to do is actually irrelevant to being a discord bot... the discord api is just a way to interface between an application and discord... it doesnt actually have anything to do with 3rd party services
yo, what are you guys beefing about?
By the way I can send the 2 pictures Ive got to show you a little bit of it...
no one is beefing
u were the guy that helped me here before btw, I just left and rejoined
Im trying to cook Samtino 😄
what you're trying to do either requires a community maintained database or some form of web scraping... this is not something that can be done easily or at least easily by a beginner
Oof, I see, then it means im cooked, right?
with no experience in reverse-engineering? yes
Then is it illegal to hire someone to make it for me?
good luck... it's going to be very expensive
Ive spent already more then 100k€ in this game and ive been suffering with this bot for the past few years and I only discovered about it recently so...
I think Im going all in to achieve it...
Fiverr is reputable. It's a website to hire contractors. I don't even know if any of them would accept a job that big however
If you dont click links, you won't want someone giving you code that you don't know how it works and running it.
^
💀
Im just extremely carefull you know?
can i get some help with someone breaking Discord Rule 12?

they are in privite dms and in a server rn tho..
Read the message. Don't send the command again
Report their messages. No one here can help you with that
it doesnt make sense im tryin to get these people either warned by discord staff or something
so report them... discord doesnt have any kind of in app moderator like reddit has reddit admins
you right click the message... click report... select the reason... boom
Does any good at developing software?
This is a server for developers... at least one person is good at that... but what is your question?
I’m actually looking for one
I’m not a developer
I have a big project I need to find people
This isn't a place to recruit though
You can try on fiverr if you want like freelancer or devs on contract, or there's always like LinkedIn and other job board websites

Hi! Quick question about Game Identity:
My game (Outcity) is already on Steam with a public page and a playable demo, and it's also listed on IGDB, but it doesn't show up in the "Search for your game" field.
Does Game Identity only recognize fully released games, or should demos also be detected? And is there any way to manually trigger indexing?
Thanks!
There's an option to create a dev support ticket specifically for this issue. Under Game Development and Game Identity
Fixed. Lol I mixed discord and support in the link
I'm using GameMaker (GML) for my game and noticed the Rich Presence guides only cover C++, Unity, and Unreal,
Is it possible to implement Rich Presence using GameMaker via a custom wrapper (DLL), or is there any recommended approach for unsupported engines?
Yea just use the Offical Discord Game SDK (C/C++)
hould I use the Discord Social SDK (newest) or the Discord Game SDK (legacy) for Rich Presence? The docs mention both.
Go with the newest
Social layer SDK is more about integrating Discord social capabilities (text & voice, lobbies, unified friend list, linking and provisional accounts)
If you just want to have Rich Presence, you can just use Game SDK or other implementation (even own lightweight custom one) that implements Discord IPC communication
Does adding the SDK make Discord recognize my game in the activity widget?
Yes! But it depends on which SDK and how you implement it.
Can someone help me make a game
If you have specific coding or design questions sure. But no one here will do it for you
Does everyone just use vs code or is there more fun softwares I'm getting a bit sick of it and want to explore my options
There's many other options. There's IDEs that are typically specialized for whatever you're making or some that are more language general like JetBrains and Visual Studio. And then there's other lightweight text editors that are similar to VSC but with their own twist like Zed and Cursor. Then there's bare bones editors like Notepad++ and Sublime Text. Finally there's terminal based editors like nvim and nano
i mean you've got significantly more options, personally i prefer stuff like the jetbrains suite, which are free for students and non commercial use, i use rider for c# especially with unity
best one i found is trae for coding very good to use and if u get stuck ai can jump in to help
I am going to start as a game dev which would be best for start should I use gdevelop or godot
Godot
Have you got any previous experience with programming? If not, I would suggest GDevelop. Easy learning curve with lots of great official tutorials
If you do have programming experience, Godot is solid
@oblique edge no man
what is best service for discord bot database and i also have question (database is for to save people data)?
Best is SQLite. It’s not a service but a local program. Best SQL DB for beginning bots
what about mango db?
i heard this
I’m not a fan. It’s a document database and not a relational one. Most all data you’ll store is relational. So use the better tool
🥭DB is new one
sounds tasty to use
Indeed
Like 13eck said, something like SQLite would be good. Don't ever store data in json files; it could go corrupt and delete the data
I don't think it's new

Can anyone make new great MMO Game ? 😄
With enough time and skill yes someone could. But most MMOs are too large a project for just one dev, that’s why they’re made by large studios
most MMOs are too large for even 100 devs
it's not comparable to other games, none of the commercial game engines will work well for an MMO so you're looking at developing your own engine and all the gameplay systems on top of it, which in themselves are a lot more demanding than normal due to the player count
wassup everyone
im new here and im making a open world fan base game thats real life
Animal game btw not human
this 61 weeks into Development by the way
this is us compared to her by the way orginal size
she's considered a impossible animal to re make and animate
im the only developer that got her right
This perspective is very cool. The animations are all great! What's the game like?
well the ideal plan is similar like The isles in a way
but im making the combat feel like GoW and dark souls 3 feel
doing 2 games at once for combat mechanics
and maybe a little wukong feel
@tender sleet
im trya re animate the whole animal from the anime
but improved
her main abilities are claws and parlyse tongue
she can track people across continents
this her first person view going to look
like i said this could be the most impossible thing to do for a game especially
Hello Discord Developers,
Out of curiosity, I'd like to understand exactly how game detection for “Claim Game” works.
In your announcement, you state that even small independent studios can claim their game, but in practice, some published Steam games never appear in the list, even after several years.
For example:
A friend has a parkour game published on Steam for two years, with approximately 3,000 reviews, and yet his game is still not detected in the Claim Game system.
Therefore, I have several questions:
- Are there specific criteria for being indexed?
(popularity, number of downloads, Steam metadata, manual validation, etc.)
- Are there any minimum requirements not publicly stated?
For example: player threshold, downloads, Discord activity, etc.
- How can a developer request or force their game to be indexed?
The phrase “Discord must detect your game” remains rather vague, and without a clear explanation, it gives the impression that there are hidden conditions.
-# Thank you in advance for your clarification.
There is no way to force it, discord also doesn't give info on criteria. From community testing there seems to be some filtering on games with low player count (potentially also needing discord open at the same time?) But its all purely speculation, nothing official
They could try contacting dev support but thats about it
Yes, I see. On one hand, it's a good thing to prevent abuse, but on the other, it's a bit of a lie.
I was curious and looked in the documentation; it said that anyone, regardless of their stats, could claim their game in "Claim My Games."
Again: we have no more info then ypu do
Okay, I'll take a look on my end, thanks 🙂
What are we talking about here?
how i can create a ticket

What a building brother
Nice one
Hi! I'm looking into the "Claim game" option but when going to the page, it's blank and there's only an option to make a new app. Then when I go to make a new app it says ":" can't be in it, but it's already made the app with that in presumably?
Am I looking in the wrong place?
This is our server for reference
I think there was a change at some point that disallows : in bot names. Im not sure about the claim game process, but if you cannot change the app name yourself to not include : you should reach out to dev support
@wraith seal
How does one reach out to dev support?
Also bots can change their name via code so
they can change their per server name but not their global name
My guess, is both the dev portal and API have the same naming requirements
Thanks!
Are you going through https://docs.discord.com/developers/platform/claim-your-game ?
I'm noticing that this doesn't cover the use case of "hey, I don't have an App or know what one is!" 😄 which is a definite gap.
ive changed global username in a dpy bot with it
its definitely possible at least
username != global name
username is the unique primary name on your account
that's global_name:
hm?
global_name is just the display name no?
yes
i dont think bots can have them different from username
might be wrong tho
iirc global_name is pulled from username if they have no display name
it definitely shouldn't. if it does that's a library implementation detail
most libraries call the variable one "display name" and go down the chain with it, depending on context and availability nickname > global_name > username
and as per https://docs.discord.com/developers/resources/user#modify-current-user, global_name is not something you can patch on apps
this going to be a breakthrough for all animal gaming
do gambling bots count in game dev?
brh
Same question
What's the context for asking?
On the one hand, gambling is playing games of chance, so there's the "game" aspect of it. On the other hand,
Do not use the APIs for…Illegal online gambling.
So make sure it's not gambling with real monies, yeah?
I mean the fake currency gambling bot... Like unbelievaboat
I don't know what that bot is or what it does, but as long as it's not real-life currency it should be fine
-# Am not a lawyer, not legal advice. just my understanding of the dev policy

but ppl sometimes actually buy it
hey guyss I randomly came across this tech fest in Bangalore called ASCENT (May 15-17), and ngl I thought it’d be mid at first, but it actually looks kinda solid. It’s got a bit of everything: 24h hackathon, chance to build an MVP and maybe get some funding, a startup pitch event with a prize pool, plus robotics stuff like Robo Soccer and Robo Race. There’s also Prompt Wars thing hosted by Google and some ML, CP, and cybersecurity events. They’re listing sponsors like Google, TogetherFund, Eyecandy Robotics, and VorFlux AI (found this on their website btw), which lowkey makes it feel more legit… but idk, could still go either way. It’s open to both students and working professionals, and yeah.. just stumbled on it and did a quick check.
Anyone here been to stuff like this before? Is it actually worth pulling up, or does it end up being all hype no delivery? It says free registration too...

Hello everyone. I have learnt Java, Web development & python Development. I wanted a road map to game development. Anyone can help?
I don't find roadmaps that useful because the breadth is quite large. What is the goal for game development for you?
Well currently i am working to build a strong portfolio. Which may help me after graduation.
To make games as a career?
Or as part of a software engineering portfolio?
As a game developer
Is that a question or a statement?
Ok, statement
In your country, what technology do games companies use? Eg Unreal or Unity
If to be honest their aren't any game development companies at all. I haven't seen any yet in my home country
In which case, it will be super difficult to get a games developer job. Companies don't tend to hire developers abroad for permanent roles
Are you sure about continuing down that path?
Means before starting my career it collapsed. By the way which country is best at game development.
UK, Japan, US and probably China now
If I didn't get a clear way I would be just continue as a software developer
I am from Pakistan. Trying to build a strong career in games development.
FWIW, I would have suggested picking an engine like Unity or Unreal and doing https://20_games_challenge.gitlab.io/
Okay I will check that and thanks really appreciate your guidance.
Probably not many people here but I know some people have talked about doing stuff like that
If you have a more specific question, someone who knows will be able to answer. Or you can try and ask in a more Minecraft specific dev server
I edit existing mods to port them into other versions.. never made one from nothing.
That's what I mean
I was thinking a 10 lives plugin
What version are you coding it for?
that is also VERY important as each version has different API's and uses a different system to handle data.
^
1.20.1
paper?
I can't do it yet cause I don't a pc
Vallina
mods dont work on vanila MC.
for mods to load or even work you need to run them differently
thats what a mod loader does such as Forge, Neoforge, Paper, etc
you can run 1.20.1 but for mods to work you need to switch the type
I use a tool like Prism launcher, this let's you make a minecaft session in those types.
the one from the image is 1.20.1 forge for example
if you plan to make a mod.. learn about how to use them
each loader handles them differently.. so if you make a mod for 1.20.1 forge it will only run on there
you can backport a mod to work on different versions like 1.20.1 fabric but thats also alot of work
Ok
Firstly go an learn how it all works and how they talk with eachother, the mod and launcher talk with eachother.. and thats how a mod works
each one does it differently so thats why mods only work on the version they are made for
if we take 1.21.x and 1.20.x for example.. it's mainly the way they process the map/mod and player data
if we then look at the type such as forge of farbic (most used loaders) they both use a diffent type of communication
how is it looking
Nice
Good
Hello everyone. I have learnt Java, Web development & python Development. I wanted a road map to game development. Anyone can help?
Usually the first step is to find a game engine that you like to use. Not familiar with anything for Java, but there are a bunch of libraries for JS/TS. Babylon and phaser come to mind. Python has pygame, I think.
The most basic game development is C#. If you're looking for stuff not directly related to Discord, you can look into Godot to get started, it's pretty easy to learn
Thank You
Thank You ❤️
What do you consider “basic” game dev and why is it C#? There are a lot of other “basic” languages that I’ve can make a game with
@dreamy inlet
Could anyone tell me how do I connect a discord bot to a roblox account and make it handle the group ranks?
Using api iirc
yeah gdscript, gml, python etc. might be easier to get started with
We’ve submitted an application to claim the game, but we haven’t received a reply for 2 days. How long does it take?
I worded it bad, what I meant to say was the most basic way to learn basic game development is by using C# within Godot, it's super user friendly and a lot of resources
You can create games in Python or even some other simple scripting languages, but it probably isn't the best and most capable unlike C# and Godot
Godot uses a “simple scripting language”, too. The default is GDScript.
And there are many Lua-powered game engines. Another scripting language. Not to mention the plethora of JS engine, like GameMaker.

If you want I can help compile your game into an exe tell me if you're interested
Or they can just use pyinstaller to get it into a single file instead of trusting a random stranger which sounds sketchy...
Lol
What's funny? It's completely normal to be suspicious of a brand new account who's likely first ever message on this platform is offering services

Thanks for the help i have already done that

Now I'm planning to make a real cool game
Which includes player animation for different moves like walking animation firing different animation

Hello, is there anyone who can help me for my game idea
yah i can
Okay how can I talk to u personally and not in gruop

bro I am new, and don't know to use discord
thanks for the clarification earlier — I completely understand the concerns. Out of curiosity, what would be the appropriate way (within the rules) to find a few testers for something like this? I don’t want to break any guidelines, just trying to figure out how to approach it properly.
I’m a beginner developer working on a small project and just looking for some real player feedback. Just want to do this properly.
This server isn't a place to find testers. If you want general feedback on specific aspects, you can ask questions and we can answer... but this is not a place to find users / testers
Like polarbear said above, if you want people to use your application... ask your friends or people you know
Got it, that makes sense
I’ve already shared it with a few friends, just wanted to try reaching a broader group as well
Thanks for the advice guys 👍
Playtestcloud, user testing.com and similar services
i released a game on steam recently and it hasn't shown up on the game claiming menu, was wondering what i should do
having the same issue; i think your game has to be relatively old, but im not even sure. make sure your game is on igdb, discord sources games from that
there needs to be some documentation on how discord actually picks up your game, because it choosing your game through the exe name then looking it up in igdb is not a good choice imo
my game getting mistaken for a 22 year old game is not something that should happen
I am Vietnamese and I am developing a werewolf-style game, but with a role-playing meme mix. Who is the Tay person? If I want to expand the bot, how can I make it usable on multiple servers?
Is your game an activity or bot?
its on igdb now as an approved page but so far nothing has updated in the developer portal on the app
can anyone help me to connect discord activity app to connect with web app
Yes, I can help with that.
I can connect the Discord Activity app with your web app, including authentication, API integration, and real-time communication depending on your
Requirements
Share the current setup and what functionality you want connected..
yes sure i can guide you through the process
Can someone help I'm making a custum command bot
You have to ask a question first. And use either #dev-chat or #1478857869960019968 as this channel is for game dev
still waiting on the game claim thing anyone got any idea why its not working
What part of it is not working?
If your game does not appear there, Discord does not yet have an official record of it. As such, you will not be able to claim your game at this time. As your game’s playerbase and playtime grow, it will become eligible for automatic recognition.
I almost done with my game let goo
whats the game?
You as a publisher claiming your own games
i just really wanna know what counts as "enough" playtime/players
just wish discord were just a lil more transparent with this kinda stuff icl
Wait I can make bots that is for games???
some games have an API for applications (like a bot) to interact with them/draw information from them, sure
this chat is more for people developing games - less integrating with other people's games
Oh thanks
Take genshin wizard for example
Ahhh I see
they told me in a support response it needs to meet certain activity requirements that they cant disclose
yea they just now responded to my ticket with the same
not yet but they've published a recording of other events... just sometimes takes a while
can anyone help me to connect discord activity app to connect with web app
cool, is there any channel i should be looking at?

Guys I am building a game so can anyone help me in solving the errors of the game or maybe even help in building somep arts of the game which are really difficult to me and I cannot make?
What errors are you getting?
Ya like mechanics getting broke sometimes when I am adding a new feature when I am adding a new feature so it is buggign and bugging and not getting fixed so ya these are the bugs but these are normal and any coder can do it not including me bcz I am new to coding fr and also the main thing is that I have to make it multiplayer but I cannot make it multiplayer idk why so I need someone to make it multiplayer plus publish the game
I would slow down in that case. If you are new to programming, doing multiplayer is a another level of complexity. Focus on small games and getting one bit of feature working at a time
I have already made the game almost completed just need to add some more things and then make it multiplayer
very good
anyone got a tldr of that engagement talk in #server-news? not relevant to anything im working on but i would be curious what they had to say
The recording will be on youtube in a few days typically
vods arent a tldr, just asked in case someone was present could quick run down
Not really a topic you can really distil properly in a few sentences without losing all usefulness
can always give the transcript to an llm and ask for a summary ¯_(ツ)_/¯
nice that youtube usually will auto-generate one with videos
also did not expect to see lmaonaise's name in our mutuals lol, miss that guy
the chances of running into another oce rl player here are low, but not zero
you're never safe from that horrid game 😄
it always somehow finds a way back into your life
any chance for the deck or the info sharing after the event? was kinda too late to join ^_^
It was recorded, should be on youtube in a few days
oh, nice then, do you know which channel it usually goes to?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to understand the logic behind the automatic indexing of Steam games in the Discord library. Are there age criteria or blocking technologies?
I've already contacted official support, but they're not very forthcoming and keep repeating generic answers (like "it's done automatically via the databases"). So I'd like to get some real feedback from other developers or more technical information on this.
I have two specific cases in front of me that make no sense:
-
Case 1: A game released 30 days ago.
- Almost no activity (3 players max, 10 Steam reviews), no integrated Rich Presence.
- Yet, it appeared on its own in the Discord database and is perfectly detected by players.
-
Case 2: A game released 15 days ago.
- Large community behind it (1000 continuous Twitch viewers, around twenty regular players).
- Use integrated Rich Presence.
- Yet, still not detected or indexed by Discord.
Both are publish Steam games.
Two/tree big questions:
- Does Discord apply a strict timer/waiting period for new releases before adding them?
- Could the process of an Electron executable cause problems for Discord's automatic detection bots (which might mistake it for a simple browser/background application)?
- Update the IGDB page every day block the discord indexation ?
If you've encountered this issue or have any ideas, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks ❤️
Pls don't crosspost. Its apammy and just splits up the conversation for no good reason
Sorry sir!
hey, I was wondering if someone could tell me how does Unity know this is (AD) or (Right/Left arrow key) and samething for the other one(Vertical):
float z = Input.GetAxis("Vertical");```
IIRC, there are Input manager settings that map keys to axis https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/class-InputManager.html
The Unity Manual helps you learn and use the Unity engine. With the Unity engine you can create 2D and 3D games, apps and experiences.
Ah I see, thank you!
Hey sorry for the follow-up, this is an offtopic question, but I was wondering if you have competed in any game jams, or if you know one that is coming up in late july, that would be great, I really want to compete in one but don't know how and their requirements. Thanks again!
Calendar of game jams https://itch.io/jams
I personally don't like doing game jams
seems like discovery isn’t strictly activity-based, more like some backend ingestion and delayed signals from steam , igdb
it seems to be a bit of both
Im 13 I don't know how to code but I have a very good game idea that I've been working on for a. Week could someone possibly teach me how to code or help me make the game?
Are you trying to learn to code to make your game? If so, what tools are you trying to learn? What are you trying to make your game with?
If you don't know what tools to use yet, then can you answer general concepts of what your game is? Is it a 2d platformer... A 3d exploration game? Are you using pixel art, voxel graphics, or do you want UE5 level art?
Can I tell you it in pm
I don't answer DMs here
Ok
I don't need to know the specifics about your game idea. Just the general concept. So we know what tools/resources will be helpful
Like, is it a Roblox game, or should you learn Godot, or Unity, etc
a hardcore, psychological World War II survival simulation played through a true, realistic eye-line first-person perspective.
There's multiple campaigns with different nations and there's a co-op like enlisted but way more realistic but I don't have a PC and I think Unreal Engine will be the best for it
Oh. Well if you don't have a PC, then developing an Unreal Engine game is going to be very difficult
Yeah Im going to save up for one
In the meantime, you should spend that time learning about game development and the tool/languages that are required
Making a UE5 game solo can take many months/years, so take your time and try to learn as much as possible
Here's a simple UE5 beginners guide but you'll need to learn a lot more to make a full game: https://youtu.be/k-zMkzmduqI
Unreal Engine 5 tutorial for beginners! In this free tutorial we will go over everything you need to know to get started in Unreal Engine 5. Specifically we will focus on Unreal's new features: nanite and lumen. You will learn how to install Unreal Engine, navigate the 3D viewport, create materials and worlds, sculpt landscapes, paint foliage, p...
Thanks
You can try making it on Roblox studio which is the easiet one. When you learn more the. You can make it on unity
Honestly, yes. I would recommend against Unreal Engine for no coding experience before
Not saying you can't, but... Unreal Engine is hard. Game development in general is hard but UE5 does not hold your hand. It can break in so many different ways
Curious about that too
Holy wall
That wall of text is so hard to read and runs on for so long it's barely able to be parsed mentally
Also don't pull people to DMs
I mean line breaks as a thing on any platform?
Also I disagree with like half of it too.
You don't need to know algorithms to learn how to code. Programming is just logic, you can learn it without learning complex algorithms. I also disagree with the take of starting with 2D games. Half of learning development is creating what you want to create. 2D and 3D both have their own challenges and yes while 3D can be harder in some aspects if you're willing to put the effort forward you will likely have a better experience in the learning process with an end goal of what you wanna create in mind.
Also the random object oriented thing is weird to me...you can technically build games without writing code at all.
And the last entire half just seems more like a rant than anything...not related to the original question based on what I've read
Not sure how UE5 freezing your laptop, or your own personal experience relates to them asking for resources on how to write code.

Algorithms come naturally...they're not a requirement to learning to code
That’s very much not true
And?
So what?
that doesn't mean anything.
OOP isn’t required for games programming
The literal game changing game in history was written in a non-OOP language
Also not true. Programming is logic and problem solving
Still was written in a non-OOP lang though
So now that one of your opinions have been proven wrong you’re moving the goalposts?
theres a reason "can it run doom" is a mainstream test in our world
Most of of have triple that...
Are you sure? You don’t really sound like it
There are people here who have been doing it likely longer than you've been alive
-# literally a professional in the industry who runs his own consultant firm....telling you that you're misguided
Only Sith deal in absolutes
Is there even any correlation at all with algorithms and OOP?

I mean…some algos use OOP-style objects, so maybe?
i mean...algorithms are a pretty large part of all software development and OOP and product the structure around it...it's more about execution
Let me consult the like 8 books I have on the shelf that will all say you're wrong too
and some of those books are likely older than you too lmao
The Internet says that OOP is bad and games should be made with ECS
But could you do most of "algorithms" with non-OOP langs?
Sorry chat, I lied...I have 9 books.
literallyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Why stop at 9, make it 10
I have a few in my amazon cart I wanna get eventually
Yes. Algos are just ways of doing things
like 2 or 3 of them are specifically tailored to game dev too.
Really solid reads, I reference them often
Me too poor to buy books yet :wilted_rose:
Fair :nodding:
1500 pages? That's like nothing...only a single book of my is 1,365 pages...and that's just like the introduction...
No one said you don’t. We said they’re not the starting point
1500 pages is literally nothing in the world of programming
Spewing "large numbers" just to look cool/right
I use i and j in my iterations :person_shrugging:
I wish I was kidding lmao.
2d has physics too...
Is that C/++/#
there's literally 2d physics engines for a reason
Non of this has anything to do with the conversation at hand
A lot of it is
??
Yes...because there's one additional axis...but the underlying math accounts for it
Like...the coordinates are just a representation of spaces. Physics (gravity, force, momentum, collision response, kinematics, etc) doesn't care how many axis there are. Adding a Z axis doesn't reinvent the laws of physics (talking broader picture)...it just means you write Vector3 instead of Vector2.
Yes some changes will be made to account for that 3rd axis, but you're literally moving between dimensions...that's expected. If you're writing gravity system it's gonna be 9.8m/s squared no matter what.
I'm not right, the laws of physics are...the people way smarter than me who discovered and documented the laws of physics are.
But all of that is a moot point because in the realm of game dev most users don't have to consider the underlying math to physics in particular because there's systems in place to assist in that sense. If there's not, there's plenty of documentation around it.
Game dev can be very math heavy, no one is denying that...but it doesn't have to be at the start.
Bro's deleting his message…
Hey, mod team, I think we need a !clean until 1508419547953234031. Dude deleted his messages so now half the convo is missing
I was scrolling up and watching. To each their own
ehh...then like some of the actual good info would be lost
Imagine rage-deleting just b/c someone proved you can make good games in C
Some of the response can stand on their own
Oh, no doubt about that. Just hard to follow since half the convo disappeared is all
Doom
hahah, but yeah...not sure why people push 2D so hard. 2D is great, and it can be easier to get started with becuase it's only 2 axis...but like if you're not passionate about what you're building then you won't have a desire to learn either.
The addition of the third axis is so small compared to the rest of the program that it's more of a rounding error
If someone wants a game that's 3D then hell yeah they should go for it, set realistic expectations and definitely let them know the challenge...but the drive to learn game dev will be much higher if you're passionate
I always gravitate towards 2D since that's my childhood, being raised by the NES and SNES. So that just feels good to me. But 3D isn't much of a difference
honestly there are few games you cant make good games with... it may just be harder.... its just a testiment of skill of dev tbh
Exactly!
1.5d is peak
Using C vs C++ just means leaning towards data-oriented design by passing around structs instead of OOP. It's just a different way of doing it. Like ECS, that's great for C
Goodnight! Hoping you wake up feeling completely refreshed tomorrow.

You can message @stray mortar but this server does not allow advertising so I don't think they'll allow it
