A bots ram mostly boils down to what information you are caching. If the bot is just relying the users prompt to the API and then sending the response back to discord you would not need to do any caching and overall the ram usage would be low.

most memory usage for bots is caching members and messages... which scales with the amount of guilds and their activity

but what exactly your caching depends on your application as well

also can be effected by the language you use... as, you can be much more memory efficient with compiled languages over interpreted ones

Depending on your use case you could easily get away with a RBPI, with a nvme or even an old pc, could even stack pis together but again heavily based on your use case and computation needed

Some cases its even cheaper or better to just cloud host but again can only speculate unless the goal/needs is known haha

Refurb XSFFs (e.g. Thinkcentre) are real cheap on eBay, for example. That's what runs my homelab and local network services via Proxmox (DNS/DHCP/VPN/Network adblocker plus home apps like Paperless, Mealie, HA, etc.)

there are pros and cons to that sort of system, but discord didnt take that route. they just expose the bot api to let you do things however you like, rather than building the entire platform for bots to run on

if you want to run a bot, you need to sort out your own hosting solution, there is no builtin discord one or anything like that
