Hello friends, I recently lost contact with my first deity, and I've been trying to make contact either my next. I've done two tarot spreads with meanings that nearly aligned, however I have absolutely no idea where to start to find her. Her qualities seem to contradict each other entirely, ive gotten cards with suggestions of safety, balance, financial security, nurture, and overprotectiveness, but ive also gotten cards with stubbornness, loss (with particular regards to relationships), pain, betrayal, and struggles. The two main cards that represent her as a whole were the upright ten of swords and a reversed three of swords. I will be eternally grateful for any guidance any of you may have.

but I would also suggest looking at pantheon's in which you are interested in/ones that are open to you first

this is mainly due to the fact that not everyone worships or works with all pantheons

so only 3 of the 12 question are about the deity themselves the rest are in relation to you or your honor/worship/relationship specifically

going based off the 3 first questions:

• (1) they are someone that is inspirational, invokes creativity and think things through.
• (2) a lot of their myths may involve conflicts and competition
• (3) their personality may be one that reflects the calm before a storm type of thing. the rest time before action

based on that (though i am unsure what the major arcana cards you have there are for) one major guess i could make from that is Athena, shes a war goddess but is also a goddess of knowledge and creativity

some of her most well known myths are competition (Arachne) or are her acts and strategy of war

now i dont work with athena so i cant make a guess on her personality as that can also be influenced by who is interacting with her

Okay ehhh that may be weird but a day before i literally begged a deity to help me with a situation which they already helped me on days ago not entirely but still helped which im grateful for and now im four days away from facing that actual problem itself and i begged once again. Then i dreamt yesterday of the apparently deity asking me to make more efforts in the devotional acts and stuff and in return they’ll see what they can do about my situation, dunno if that may be something or i just got that dream because i’ve been reading about deities alot recently.

yes, you can kinda compare it to regular friendships. there are some friends you’re closer to in different aspects, and that’s okay. it is not mandatory nor disrespectful to have your energy equally split amongst everyone, as long as you’re trying your best with each one 😊

Also important to note; if you're not going the reconstructionist route; deities/entities change over time as do what they represent. Many items that we associate even with the "popular"/more documented gods didn't exist in their place of origin. It's okay if the items you use or give don't 1-to-1 match what was common

From what I can tell, Nyx has a lot of overlapping associations with other deities, which makes sense

Especially ones she's personally connected to such as Thanatos and Hypnos for instance

she does mainly her thing is like night time considering she's the goddess of night. she's also sometimes labeled as a goddess of the moon although that's more directly connected to Selene

but a lot of people's influence does dictate what they may or may not consider associated her which is why all of the deity lists in the server are labeled as upg or spg's

She even has overlap with Athena symbols, such as the owl, being a nocturnal creature from Nyx's perspective and a creature of wisdom from Athena's perspective is one of the things I found

so there are two main ways that you can interact with deities one is worshiping and the other is working with

a lot of people end up mixing them together but for some only one or the other is needed and they don't mix them at all

working with a deity entails asking them for help in your practice exchanging goods and honoring and offerings in order for that help asking them to help you in various means but it's always an exchange

worshiping on the other hand is you honoring and vernating and expressing your love and appreciation for a deity with no expectation that they are to return anything for you.

and this is done through doing devotional acts, giving offerings, making them a space in your home or in a place where you can (digitally or otherwise) to place the things that you want to belong to them. this is what's called an altar and can look very different depending on your practice/what you have available.

with this one the things you do are never done as an exchange they're done as you honoring them and showing them appreciation with no expectations.

some people mix these two practices together in which, sometimes they do ask for things in exchange and other times they do not.

this is how I practice. a lot of my practice is worship with working coming second when I need.

a lot of others go from a purely worshiping relationship to adding working parts to it once they've built up a good enough or close enough connection to their gods

"Hearing them" is a little stretch as it's not literally hearing them as if their a person next to you
Some meet them in dreams or Astral travel
Some with divination
Some do a form of meditation (where the "hearing" is most likely common) and they feel what's being said if that makes sense

It's also different for everyone and their relationship with their deity

I do also want to note that sometimes when it comes to people explaining or reiterating their interactions with their deities there may be a slight bit of exaggeration only because it makes it so it's easier for other people to understand

he didn't actually come down from the heavens or whatever and bestow on to me that knowledge but through my methods of interacting with them I got that impression and interpreted that answer

it's a matter of establishing those boundaries with communication just as you would with regular person. Check with them before deciding if your worried with any title

Trying to find a way to include Nyx in my MTG hobby is harder than I thought

There were a couple Greek mythology inspiried sets but they don't have anything resembling her as an entity

The closest is Nyx in the lore of the sets is a mix of the night sky and Mount Olympus

So closer to like a place rather than an entity

I got a question: For those who know/work with Zeus: How does he feel about how he's portrayed in his myths? [Including ones where he's not painted in a positive light]

i dont work with Zeus specifically but i think this is a question that can be asked to any deity with myths that portray them in a negative light.

things like Athena being someone that hates victims because of how she treated medusa after her death, to Hades being a horrible person because of the origins of his and Persephone's relationship.

At the end of the day these are myths not fact. they are meant to tell stories not be all knowing truth of these deities as a whole

Another really great outlook ive seen on the Greek gods specifically is that their myths showcase both parts of the deities domain:

• Zeus is a King, kings at times are so inherently flawed to the point of being tyrannical/cruel
• Hades is the King of Death: Death can and does take children early from their parents
• Athena is a warrior and war based goddess: War has and does make women victims in their most venerable times.

but again they are meant to be stories not their truth. these myths are like if a movie was made and Zeus (or the others) are stars of the movie that is being portrayed

then when i sort of felt his presence,,, i don't remember whether i did vetting? but i told him my request in as respectful a manner as possible
then when the incense burnt out i thanked him for hearing out my request

it depends on the deity but sometimes that’s not enough, it may be worth to redo it and include more offerings like food, flowers, whatever he typically likes

sometimes it can also be blocked by another spirit, like an ancestor or a deity because they’re more like.. apart of your team is the best way I can describe it

so if your family is catholic or apart of the church in some capacity, it’s also worth petitioning to saints and see where that goes. or even like fish said, branching out to other pantheons

also I would do a tarot reading or something more detailed than just a pendulum, so you can get a better idea of what’s going on

I think maybe it’s a good time to start! Easiest way is to get a reading, if you’re able to. But another way is to pray on it, leave a glass of water and white candle by your bedside and ask for your spirit guides of your highest good to begin coming forward

It’s a process - a lot of internal stuff and even external can cause blockages and play a role in why you may not be able to identify them. Doesn’t mean they’re not around though, just means being consistent so that the connection can strengthen. Like a phone signal, you sit closer to the cell tower (you consistently leave out water for clarity and a candle representing illumination) and it’ll become easier to see / hear / identify them

Does anyone know of any ocean deities that have not only a mermaid tail but also wings? The only deity I can find is melusine, but I do remember ocean specific
And I usually astral project or shift every night. My mom who is also witchy told me she does sense siren, but also fairy/dragon ish energy. I made a drawing of her from my dream and I can't seem to figure out if it's 100% melusine or another deity. I just got done working with mother scylla and now she's stepping back to have ne start my work with this other one. I cant find any other deity with wings and tail other than melusine but she's associated with rivers and springs and I remember ocean specific :/

• i think it would be best to focus on them but if your mind wanders thats okay! however i would suggest keeping yourself focused when handling fire at all times
• i would say so! just be aware of fire safety and make sure you arent lighting to many in a small space
• you can talk to them whenever tbh but i would highly suggest getting your basics before jumping into working with them
• up to you! but generally it may depend on the candle your using as some have reccomended light times
• this may be something you and your deity need to discuss. im a yapper and i gossip to all my deities but it may be different for you

It’s likely just because of the quality of the cup like you said. You can tell by using divination, like pendulums or a tarot deck to ask. Oftentimes she wants her devotees to lean more into their intuition and developing their clairsenses further, I suggest making a routine practice in meditation or something that could help you develop those things further so that you can progress in that and in the long-term have an easier time communicating with her

Hey, I’ve never done deity work before but I just tried to make an altar for Anubis and I was communicating with a pendulum and i didn’t necessarily feel a connection to Anubis himself so because he is the Egyptian god of death, I asked if it was Anubis or death in general and they replied with death in general. I don’t really know if there’s such thing as “death in general” but apparently that’s what I was communicating with, and id just like to know if this can be dangerous or wether it’s fine. well before getting started on any entity communication id reccomend that you have these down really well:

these basics (which the server has dubbed bernie's basics) are essential to master before contacting deities or entities!

to master a skill, you should know what exactly the skill is, why it's performed and how it's used, know several methods of performing each skill, and have actually tested the skill and used it successfully regularly!

cleansing: clearing your space and/or your body of unwanted energies! smoke cleansing, sound cleansing, visualization, etc
grounding: becoming aware of your physical self and connecting with your surroundings! promotes spiritual + mental stability and focus
protections: keeping yourself spiritually safe! can be done in a variety of ways - spellwork, talismans, sigils, etc
banishing: getting any entity that you don't want in your space out! the lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram (lbrp) is an example of a well-known banishing ritual.
vetting: making sure that the deity is who they say they are and is not a trickster spirit/something other than what they say they are. pendulums are frequently used to ask questions about the deities' mythos to verify they are not a trickster spirit/something other than what they say they are.

as always, make sure to do outside research as well and utilize your discernment!

Well, I've recently realized that some practices for Lilith are closed practices, while she, as a diety, is open. Now I have worked a bit with Lilith before realizing and I feel a strong connection to Lilith but I want to be respectful of course, of judaism where she originates.

it might be best to understand that you can't work with closed entities from a closed religion if you were not a part of said closed religion. picking and choosing what aspects of Jewish culture you want to practice with is it necessarily the best idea due to how much Jewish culture is stolen from us in order to have people practice and how you have to be Jewish to work with *strictly Jewish entities.

It would not go out when I went to turn it off before bed

from what ik Aphrodite is ok with most offerings! sometimes little things that remind you of her come across your way by accident, one personal example i have ( as an someone who works with Lady Aphrodite ) is that one day at outpatient they were just handing out REAL seashells ? and i gladly took one of them to put on my altar duh!!
but also food works ! i heard a lot of the time you can pray saying "i dedicate this food/meal to Aphrodite" incase it's smth she likes! or simply put it in the altar ( and if you'd like to eat it i usually say " hey imma be putting this as an offering until certain time and then imma remove it from the altar so i dont waste food !" :3 )

but of course most of all i recommend doing ur own research ! they have a class abt lady Aphrodite here in the server ! just check the syllabus if im not mistaken?

so when it comes to worship and working with deities how they interact with you maybe different from how they would interact with me

however she does have some fairly common traits among her followers as a lot of people have noted

for one she is the goddess of change meaning that she can be somebody that entices change in your life and overall she's just somebody that will help you change for the better

I wouldn't say that personally while she is the goddess of necromancy and holds the keys to the underworld working with any specific person isn't going to make you more or less likely to have Spirit activity however it may just make you more aware of the existing activity that is around you already
