These issues are usually usb, so check that fast boot is off and usb selective suspend is off.
But when those are the issue replugging …usually… fixes it.

So if all else fails we have people uninstall and then delete the wave link folder at $user/appdata/elgato/
Restart, then reinstall.
This will wipe out your settings o be careful of that

Does anyone know how to prevent Wave Link audio effects from turning off after every PC restart?

No, not using any of those. Fast boot is disabled and I fully shut down the PC each night.

Been looking around at reddit posts from people who have had the same problem, but didn't find an answer there so figured I would see if anyone in here knew. Thanks anyway 👍

I've been having issues with my Stream Deck + and Wave Link software.

Issue: When I turn on/off computer or open/close Discord (or open any media on the Windows media player - i'm on Windows 11 PC) my Music routed for the stream instantly raises up to 100% every single time. It's the one circled in red. The Music for my side (which is Music via Monitoring) is unaffected.

I have been trying all kinds of things and can't seem to fix it, curious if anyone else has had this issue! Help is greatly appreciated.

# late jackal its set to default

Which is…. System? So that’s routing back into wave link.

Anyway, as I said, you shouldn’t be monitoring from Elgato studio at all. The fix is to turn monitoring off in that app.

solemn wyvern
#

Your default input should also be microphoneFX. Since you shared that

solemn wyvern
solemn wyvern
#

This is what I’m telling you. That’s why you hear an echo

#

You need to turn off the audio monitoring in Elgato studio

#

It should not be playing sound

late jackal
solemn wyvern
#

Dont know. I haven’t used Elgato Studio.
In the sittings somewhere!

solemn wyvern
#

Well I can’t find any info about the app, since it’s a beta and I’m on my phone.
Is there a volume slider on it or any audio controls?

#

Your recording app’s audio input should be the stream mix, and then it should not be monitoring audio back to you.
Or if it’s monitoring audio back to you intentionally, because there are alerts sounds you need to hear, the channel they monitor to should have the stream mix muted, or it will echo on the recording.

#

But you don’t want to hear your game audio after the recording app’s in any case since that will have more latency.
So don’t listen to audio “from” Elgato studio.

late jackal
#

but that would turn it off in recor- never mind i roat it to obs

# late jackal

What is this screen shot? It’s cropped so I can’t tell what you’re trying to show me.

Ah ok. Yup, so… try turning that down; make sure it’s still capturing audio.

I don’t know much about the Elgato studio beta, but from what I see my fellow motm talking about as they try it… there are many missing features.

yes continue, as in the past 2 hours im setting up my newly build pc like it feels like windows connects and disconnects stuff

info about the system:
Ryzen 9 9900x, 2x32gb corsair ddr5 6400mhz (with xmp turned on).
windows 11 pro build 24H2 version 26100.4349
The headset im using is the sony 1000XM5, microphone wave 3, the cam is the facecam, 15key stream deck (the older version) and the 4k x, also some light but that doesn't connect directly to my pc.

if i open a program windows tries to set the audio for it in the correct channel but the audio i hear through the headset will sound like it's on bass boost and sounds very loud while in windows i specified to only use wave link system as default for audio and communications same goes for the microphone, so theoratically it shouldn't be doing that

Ok, so not an issue that existed previously.
sounds like things are being put in the right place but something… maybe windows is doing is screwing it up.
System defaults should be output: a wave link channel, and input: microphoneFX.
I think you have that right.

I wonder if there are some audio enhancements or spatial effects that aren’t disabled.
To check that open mmsys.cpl and check the properties of all the audio devices.

I’m also curious if the headset could have something that’s effecting or interfering with the audio. Is this a usb device?
Do you have an analog headphone you can connect to the wave3 to isolate that variable? (Or a different one, if it’s already analog)

Yup! Like Arcsane said, that’s step one and should get you a closer starting point.
But that also sounds like a pretty typical description of the sound of SM7b. It’s a broadcast voice mic and the sound you hear is ideal for that situation! 😎

I do have this tutorial showing how I go through a mic setup.

only other thing I would add is consider additionally checking how you sound on a recording that has game sound in it. And compare that to another creator you like the sound of, with game sound. (If you use game sound, of course)

hi, Yesterday I just recognized, I don´t get Audio out of my Stream Mix. In Wave Link the is a visual signal of the Stream mix. In OBS I can listen to the Stream mix itself, but if I try to route this audio of the Stream Mix out to my Speaker i don´t get a signal at all. Any Ideas how to Fix this?

solemn wyvern
# flint helm Yeah i try to route the Monitor mix to my headphones and the stream Mix to my sp...

Does this happen when OBS is open?
There’s a couple things I think this could be: wave link tries to protect feedback from happening by muting a mix if the open mic channel is included in it, from being played out on speakers.
Also wave link stream mix virtual device only functions if the stream mix is not routed to a hardware device instead. So maybe the virtual device is in-use in OBS so the change isn’t being allowed until OBS releases it?
Just guesses. I feel like there’s a detail I’m missing.

But anyway, this isn’t a typical intended use.
To change listening devices between headphones and speakers you’re listening to, change the monitor mix device, instead of routing the stream mix to the other listening device.

Hello there is a click on my audio along with a bit of digitalization at some points. I use a wave xlr with a Shure SM7B at 45db without vsts or voice focus. I have changed the buffer size and swapped around USB ports. I have even swapped out audio recording software be it adobe audition, obs, meld, audacity etc to see if its a software issue all give me the same issue. I have no clue what is causing this anyone willing to help. On the second 1 in the clip i send the audio clicks and it almost sounds like a mouse click though its not.

Turn on voice focus to clean up the background room noise, reduce the mouse click, and slightly smooth out some of the SM7b's typical nasal bump. Then add a compressor and then put an eq in front of the compressor if you want one after listening to it compressed a little.

Anyone have experieince with thought about spray painting their wave 3? I saw a video a while back on it but don't necessairly want to take it apart

solemn wyvern
#

You’d need to take any foam out of the basket once you get it off.
Very thin spray passes over many angles. It will be tough to avoid buildup; a steady, experienced spray hand highly recommended.

I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re experienced. (Audio engineer and was a painter and cabinet coatings professional before that.)

Im having a reoccurring issue where my audio will start crackling in my output for whatever reason. I have tried using a different source, and if I just go strait from any device instead of through wave link, the crackling disappears. I am also able to remedy this by uninstalling and Re-installing the program.

Its never consistant either. When it starts, I have to do this several days in a row when I boot up my computer, but then one day it just works fine, and I'll go months without knowing HOW it got fixed.

Anyone know what may be doing this?

Even though my camera is set to 30fps, same for overall stream, the audio going into my mic from my guitar has a slight delay as to what's being captured on screen (a video on youtube I'm playing a long to). in my headphones there is NO delay with the monitoring, but the delay is there on stream and in recordings. This occurs when there is NO processing/effects applied to my mic as well.

When audio is being captured from a different device separate from video, there is usually a delay. You will have to set an audio offset in OBS to correct this. Take a recording and put it into a video editing software and count the number of frames that the audio is off from the action. Say something like 6 frames. You would to that number multiply it by your fps (in this case 30) and that gives you your audio offset value in milliseconds.

# raw tusk Its showing theres audio coming from these but i dont hear anything from my head...

Yup, looks right.
And you just switched from something else, so I assume you do hear it when routed to the built-in wave headphone port…

If you open mmsys.cpl and check the properties of devices in there, make sure all the levels are at 100% and enhancements and spatial effects are disabled.

Does that headset have any software package that runs it, or just a hardware device? Some times headsets with some kind of mixer software could be interfering in weird ways.

You might uninstall that software so it’s just the audio device.

Does it only crash out when you're trying to import the settings? You might be able to get away with importing everything else, then manually setting up just the EQ again

Hello. I just bought an Elgato Wave XLR unit and a Røde Podmic for my Streaming on Twitch. I am using it with my Macbook Pro M1 and using the Wave Link app and OBS. After streaming for some time about 1 hour I sometimes get alot of sound issue in the stream like noise and static sound. I don't hear it my self, but the viewers does. Last night I tried closing and opening Discord while I was streaming and it fixed the problem for some time. Anyone know If there is an issue with Discord and Wave Link? I have tried making sure to disable echo and Krispy sound inside Discord, and have set the wave to 48.000 hz.

# brazen jackal Here you go 🙂 Wave Link, Discord, Mac Audio MIDI and OBS

Thanks, ok let’s see if anything leaps out… (and remember the original question)

Everything seems right except your discord output… seems to be routed directly to the headphone instead of routed to a wave link voice chat channel.

I also see that they are set to “standard” (which would be “default” in English). That isn’t a problem most of the time but it will allow discord to change the audio device if you were to disconnect a device or change the audio assignment, which you usually wouldn’t want to be allowed.

But all your OBS routing is right and I don’t see anything that could be causing a static noise…. Unless…
What plugins do you have on the mic channel? If one of those is making static then you wouldn’t hear it. Could be a plugin in demo mode.

brazen jackal

Well just had satic noice again but restartet Discord and all is great again. And that was with outoput "Elgato Wave XLR". Then i changed it to Wave Link aggregate output and then the people in discord was all static inside stream but not me. Changed it back into Elgato Wave XLR and it is fine again. Think there is an issue with discord and Elgato or OBS or something 🙂

solemn wyvern
# brazen jackal

Get rid of noise removal at the end.
For one thing, noise reduction should always be at the start of the chain.
But also voice focus totally replaces the old noise reduction. It’s obsolete now.

#

But again, I don’t think any of that could be causing noise.
I thought it might be a third party plugin in a demo mode, which sometimes blast noise when they are in that mode, until you pay for a license.

sleep mode has always been problematic with peripherals. There's some inherent things with the way x86 processor topology was designed that makes it difficult to make reliable, and if you have problems seems to vary with different motherboards. Generally not recommended to use sleep if you find your system is one that has issues.
(this is even true on mac, and happy that Arm processors don't have the same issues with processor states so things have gotten better there)

solemn wyvern
# grim verge My Wave:3 decided to stop working, it is plugged but nowhere recognized or found...

usually this is a usb issue or a GPU driver hang that some devices don't recover from when the GPU driver restarts.
Is the mic channel gone from your wave link mixer? if it's still there, then it will not appear in this list for adding a channel.
Restarting the computer should bring things back in line. If it happens a lot I would be looking at the USB system, how stressed it is for power for the devices, or if there's some stability problems particularly with the GPU driver. Windows event viewer might be able to give you a clue.

That’s fine, though exclusive mode usually defaults to on.

The way the monitor device is worded “…headphone” like there is more than one audio device in the headset makes me wonder if this headset has some virtual devices or a software manager of its own.
Stuff like that sometimes conflicts with wave link.

I would next try this setup with a simple wired headset connected to the mic’s headphone port.
If it work as expected then, we have narrowed down the issue.

There is a way to make a button to add the in focus app to a channel, but I don’t remember what it is. Pretty sure it was in an Elgato video so check #1298388635254521886 or ask in #stream-deck
But I actually recommend using wave link game as your default audio channel. That way all games will appear there by default and not need to be routed at all, which also fixes the issue of games that don’t follow the rules and refuse to route to anything other than default device.

Voice mod is kind of a clumsy animal. To use that you’ll need to send it your mic, so microphoneFX, and then have any app wanting your mic to use voice mod’s output. And accept the latency there.
If you want to include voice mod in your wave link for stream mix, you’ll have to add voice mod’s output into wave link also.

To me, all should mean all,
But I wasn’t really able to get wave cast to work on my systems, and right now it’s really not meant to be used with wave link for some reason; doesn’t seem to recognize virtual audio devices. Seems like it’s meant for people who don’t have wave link, at this point.

Hi, is there a solution by now to keep the music unmuted for the livestream (for VOD purposes) without having to create separate dials for everything? I would really like to keep using the Wavelink dials. (It works with the mic too, after all.)
I've been using the Stream Deck for 2 days now and switched from Voicemeeter.
The fact that there's no third submix, or that the music channel doesn't work like the mic channel, is really driving me crazy.
The Stream Deck is absolutely awesome, but I'm honestly considering going back to Voicemeeter just because of this. 😦

You might have two separate issues here.
About the volume going to 100%, reports of something like this happening seemed to start with a sd update recently. Some users said deleting and recreating their SD control fixed it. But you might ask in stream deck for more detail about that.

Regarding separating music for a VOD track, no there is no third submix. (A massively requested feature that they know about, but have told me they are working out UI confusion issues, is why they haven’t added that yet)
But you don’t have to make separate mix controls for everything; just the music.
Anything you want included in the VOD can be sent through the stream mix, so you only need to separate music and control volume of the music on stream through OBS; all other volumes can be controlled with wave link still, and the full monitor mix as always.

Personally, if they are going to implement a third output, I’d rather they make it flexible so it can be used for other things like separate mic channel for side chain ducking, for example. Like how Beacn and some others does it. A matrix, or just a third button on each channel and a third output on the bottom. (Would also need some network audio paths for dual PC, which hopefully wave cast is on the path toward)
As they described it, they’re worried about even more support requests from users who get even more confused by mixing in general.
And I don’t blame them considering the confusion we help people with in this channel daily.

Yeah that looks fun.
The faders discussion has come up a few times. The trouble there is they need to be motorized and that is super expensive.
Hence why Elgato chose rotary encoders.

solemn wyvern
# exotic knoll Hi Everyone, I am trying to play SFX in Microsoft game chat. My levels are fine...

Sfx channel can be routed to the microphoneFX channel with a tick box for purposes like this, so you don’t have to use the whole stream mix. Though that will work, too.
When using the stream mix make sure sfx is routed to stream mix and that it is visible on the meters when you play a sound and you can hear it when auditioning the stream mix (green ear on the stream mix fader at the bottom right of wave link)
If that’s correct then the Mac game chat might be doing some voice isolation that is muting out the sound effects.
This is common for systems meant for voice. Discord, for example does noise reduction by default to try to keep non-voice audio out of their voice channels to keep it clean.

exotic knoll
#

Thanks for the reply. I do have “route through microphone” check box ticked in my sfx box. I do have SFX routed through stream mix and i can hear the sfx when green earring the stream mix. I thought maybe it was a voice isolation issue but when using other SFX software (Sound Pad) router directly through a headphones (Astro a40s) it did not isolate the SFX. Very strange. Maybe the bitrate on the SFX needs to be lower?

I just got my elgato wave 3 today, and I've been trying to tweak the settings a bit, so I can use it as a voice over, and streaming mic. After an hour of watching tutorials and tweaking it, it still sounds really... bland? A lot of reviews said that the mic would be great for the uses im using it for, and I have it in the propper position, but it still feels a bit cheapish (I know its 3 years old, but still). I bought this as an upgrade from my razer seiren v3 chroma, and I'm assuming it may just be my settings. Are there any settings I can change here or change on OBS that would make this sound premium?

Hi, as someone who recently purchased the same mic but only for meeting purposes (speak and record via OBS) - I have followed "Make ANY Microphone Sound Professional in Elgato Wave Link 2.0" on yt.

Looks like that you have followed the same tutorial based on your screenshots. How to set correct 'Voice focus' fader length, how to set compressor and boost the gain in order to reach 'peak' between the -5db and -10db even when whispering etc.

One thing that I have found in other yt (can't remember which one) video is to set the "Wave Link MicrophoneFX (Elgato Wave:3)" as the audio input in the OBS. That input will rout all previous set effects from the mic section in the wave link. Also, the order of added effects in wave link is important since the signal travels from the top to bottom. The EQ should be last and followed by the compressor which will do it's thing. Tweak the EQ and test it via local recording on the audio effect pop-up in the wave link.

don’t copy anybody else’s preset; you need to make your own by listening.
Looking at your pictures, voice focus totally obsoletes the old noise removal plugin. So start over and start with that.
And as the other user said, make sure you’re using microphoneFX as your input for recording and voice apps, or they won’t hear your effects in the first place.

The issue was a Google Meet AGC control over the Wave link's mic input gain. Since I'm not a streamer, I will use the Wave 3 mic and OBS for meeting purposes.

As can be seen in the video above, the volume level of the input gain will be reduced due to GMeet AGC control. My voice is not that loud when I speak normal, so I had to boost the input gain in order to reach dB level between -10 dB and -5 dB.

Hi, I suggest you find an explanation on yt what EQ can do with your voice.
For example, my voice is a little deeper than normal, so without the EQ, it will sound bassy and unclear. With the EQ, I can cut lower frequencies (bass) and change my voice to be brighter and clearer for speaking. The dots that you have mentioned are just spots on the frequency scale that can be chosen to clear out your voice even better.
Here is the example chart: https://unison.audio/eq-chart/

solemn wyvern
solemn wyvern
solemn wyvern
# heavy portal I also found that the microphone sounds best with just the default EQ (downloade...

As I described in the video, eq is a process, there is no shortcut or setting anybody else can offer… it has to be set while listening to your voice.
The Elgato eq has those words in different sections of the frequency spectrum describing what sort of sounds can be boosted or cut there. And then boost them up to hear the effect and sweep to find the frequency that’s annoying you.
As I demo’d!!

But at the end I had you turn the eq off just to make sure it was actually better. So if you decided that a flat eq (no changes) sounds best… then congratulations! You have correctly eq’d your voice.

#

Eq is a corrective process. So if your sound doesn’t need changes, that’s fine. Good, even!

#

And voice focus does include some spectral processing so it might be doing some subtle eq changes already along with its noise reduction and reverb reduction.
That might be enough to sound great on its own; that’s not super surprising. Good!

Hi, I've set this input to be routed as the input mic on the Google Meet because of the FX on the mic channel on the Wave.

In the OBS, I've set the input micFx as well, and as a output the voice chat (Brave) browser - in the source section (global audio devices audio, audio 2 and Mic/Auxiliary Audio (all) are disabled) per your recommended experience.

Once the GMeet is launched, the AGS will kick in and reduce the input gain.
The Wave Gain Lock was indeed checked but didn't do anything for the GMeet's AGS...
I'm not sure if I should set micFX as a default input (like in picture), or should I set the Wave Link Stream for GMeetings with added mic effects?

If you’re monitoring OBS, you just set audio devices you don’t want to hear to be “output only” in advanced audio settings panel.
If you’re routing all your audio through a single device there is no way to separate it.
But in that case your headset should be connected to the game computer anyway; wave cast is sending a copy of your audio to the other computer. They are intending you to be listening to the game computer, not the copy.

Nothing wrong with your audio here. Besides using a scooped eq that isn’t appropriate for your voice. You should use your ears to make any eq adjustments to your actual voice instead of slapping on a preset that was made by somebody else to correct the frequency response of some other situation.
If you’re hearing any digital pops/clicks that sort of thing is usually buffer errors and could be related to cpu headroom or driver translation troubles with different audio hardware not playing nice…they aren’t obvious in this recording so I can’t say anything besides… sounds fine! Scoop the eq less and it will sound better.

In the screenshot there is no audio playing on any channels routed to the monitor mix.
If it doesn’t work when audio is visibly playing in one of these channels, connect a wired headset to the wave device and route monitor mix to that, to isolate what the problem might be.

solemn wyvern
#

Have you just, restarted the computer?
Some updates might require you to reselect the audio output devices for apps to send audio to the wave link channels, but it… looks like… that isn’t the issue here.

#

Trying a wired headset is a good troubleshooting step to narrow things down, but if you don’t have one, the next thing I would say is open mmsys.cpl and check all devices to make sure their level is at 100%, enhancements and spatial effects are disabled, and finally you might try changing the allow exclusive control setting, though that’s less common so I would do that last.
(And really you’d want to check a different output device first. )

raw tusk
#

i found some wired earbuds and they work

solemn wyvern

Ok, if wired headphones work, then you’ve proven the issue is with your corsair headphones.

raw tusk
#

ive never even installed the corsair app

ill try the control panel

#

yeah nothings working

solemn wyvern

If you checked all that, you could try uninstall, restart, and install from scratch… but since it works when routed to a different monitor mix device (the wired headset) that points to the issue being with the Corsair device.

raw tusk
#

yeah ive already tried uninstalling and that didnt work either

#

and these headphones dont have away to make them wired

solemn wyvern
#

Don’t know anything about that headset, but the fact that it specifies “earphone” suggests it has different devices, some of these are intended to have mixers and receive multiple sources from the computer… I imagine something in that setup is going wrong.
Best guess at this point.

For what it’s worth, wave devices are perfectly happy running on a powered hub, though I’ve moved mine to a direct connection so the lights don’t stay on while the computer is off.
But if you are concerned about strain on the ports, that’s almost always an electrical current issue, not data; so a hub with external power supply is a great solution for peace of mind.

Anyway, the latency of your monitor mix in on-device is about 25ms. Below the threshold of awareness. I’m actually not sure if low latency mode was reducing that at all… might have but since it’s already low enough you can’t really tell without setting up a recording system to measure and compare.

#

The low latency mode did help when routing to an external device. But not sure if it was doing anything for the on-device monitor mix… is what I mean.

#

Since this setup doesn’t do an entire device hop

#

You didn’t mention voice mod

#

So is it a third party mic, and that channel is the output of voicemod?

glad patrol
#

Yeah it’s not an Elgato mic if that’s what you’re asking

solemn wyvern
#

So voicemod has your mic as input, then you added a channel in wave link which is voicemod’s mic output…. Right?

glad patrol
#

Yeah, did I did I do it wrong?

solemn wyvern
#

That is correct. So what is not happening?
Follow the signal. Where does it stop?

#

Mic has sound? Voicemod has input? Wave link has output from voice mod?

glad patrol
#

Could it be Voicemod? Maybe the somehow the mic input on voicemod got changed. Could that affect wavelink?

solemn wyvern
#

Follow what I said.
Follow the signal chain.

Mic > voicemod
Voicemod > wave link
Wave link > stream mix

Watch the meters and find where the signal stops.

Usually a restart should clear up stuck devices. Does the wave device fully power down when you restart? Maybe not if it’s got a powered hub.
Does it behave differently if you route monitor mix to the on-board headphone port?
Wonder if windows did something nasty to you.
Open up mmsys.cpl
And check the devices for having their level turned down, and make sure enhancements and spatial effects are all disabled.
Maybe toggle the allow exclusive control settings.
Or I think this is probably not it but make sure a privacy setting wasn’t changed to disallow something… but I think that wouldn’t have these symptoms.

Hello @solemn wyvern, I hope you don’t mind me reaching out. I’ve seen you helping out a lot and wondered if you could share some wisdom and perhaps help me work out why I’m experiencing issues.

At the moment, while using Wave Link, I’m suffering from audio problems ranging from popping, to audio repeating, to chopping when using the virtual devices. My setup is a Beyerdynamic DT 770 into a Focusrite Scarlett Solo (3rd Gen), which then connects to my PC via the USB cable it was supplied with. I’m using Wave Link to route my audio as the software was intended, yet the issues persist.

I even went to the effort of buying a new USB 3.0 PCIe card, as I suspected having my Wave:3 and Scarlett on the same USB controller might be the cause but I was disappointed to find the problem continued. I’ve run LatencyMon to record when the issue occurs, and it reports no latency issues or any clear faults.

So far, my only workaround is to disable Wave Link altogether and listen directly through the Scarlett audio device, which obviously isn’t ideal. I realise this is a big ask, but if you can spot anything I might have overlooked or suggest any ideas to try, I’d be extremely grateful.

Ive provided a recording of the issue on my phone if this helps at all 🙂

#

One other thing, I have adjusted the buffer size on both Wave link and Focusrite to attempt to help and neither did.

Hey there, Sure I'll give some educated guesses from what I know.
First, there's some known compatibility issues with some versions of the scarlett interfaces. What I know about seems like it's something to do with sample timing, because the main symptom was a buildup of latency over time to the point where you'd end up with multiple whole seconds of latency if the system was left on for a few days without rebooting.
No idea why, and I think I was told that this might vary depending on which version of scarlett (are there 4 now?)
It sounds like you're playing music into the scarlett; have you tried the workaround of instead of adding the scarlett to the wave link mixer, add an aux channel, and then open mmsys.cpl and tell the scarlett device to "listen to this device on" .... and select the wave link aux channel.

#

This will add some additional latency before it got to stream, since it's adding a hop between audio devices, but you could measure and compensate for that in OBS just as we always do.

#

Besides trying that to put some separation between the scarlett driver and wave link, I don't know what to do besides.... try a different interface. You could ask #official-tech-support to see if they have anytihng new for you, but I'm not aware of them declaring scarlett to be compatible without issues now.

#

And wave link really is not designed for music production at all. no ASIO drivers, etc. People wanting to do that I generally suggest using a different interface that has it's own monitor mixer for the music mix aspect of things, and then looping a stereo output from the 3rd party mixer into wave link for sharing on streams.

spice ibex
solemn wyvern
#

Ok so you're not using the scarlett 's mic/line inputs for microphones or anything? A wave device is ideal for your headphones since it will get the latency of wave link down to 25ms... but any headphone port on the PC could work just fine...
Only real reason to have a scarlett is for the inputs, I would think.

spice ibex
#

I feel like I have a egg on my face. I was not using it for microphones or anything of the sorts. Just the audio, I was sold that I was buying this so it would make the audio quality better as it was not handled on the system itself but your making me feel like I was lied too hahah

solemn wyvern
#

hmmm. Who told you that? nevermind, doesn't matter. The scarlett doesn't do any processing of any kind, it's a audio interface; a two-way digital audio converter. It's has inputs for microphones or instruments that it converts to digital, and then takes digital audio from the host computer and converts that back to analog for playback.
Some interfaces do have on-board processing but it's usually for inputs like running effects on the interface instead of the host computer. In the streaming world examples are Beacn and GoXLR.

So the scarlett as just a headphone interface... it's a fine one, don't get me wrong! It's just that particular one is known to have compatability issues with wave link. Since that's the mixer you're using, you would probably be better off getting something different.

You said you have 770's... So the main consideration is powering your headphones well... DT 770 pro is a 48 ohm impedance. That's not high at all so yeah the wave devices can power those just fine.

#

You must have a SD+ since you're using wave link. The ideal thing would be the XLR dock, which you can connect a xlr mic to if you want to sue one. Or wave 3 or wave neo if you'd rather have a USB mic. any of those are made to work with wave link. (though really most 3rd party interfaces to, aslo... scarlett is just a known problem and happens to be extremely popular since the value is so great for small musicians wanting to record.

spice ibex
# solemn wyvern hmmm. Who told you that? nevermind, doesn't matter. The scarlett doesn't do a...

I really appreciate this, from what this has taught me for my current setup as I am using a wave 3 is to connect my headphones into to my wave mic and disconnect the Scarlett altogether even more so if you say its a known thing for both wave link and this scarlett to have issues. Then if future me wants a XLR then I will just get the XLR dock as you suggested. The crazy thing about this whole thing is that I have been using this setup for nearly a year and no issue and then I replaced my PSU and weirdly the issues appeared. I will say while you have been helping I have plugged it into my mic and so far no issues so you may have saved me more hair loss Kek

You have this flipped. Voicemod's output needs to be set to Wave Link, which then feeds to your stream mix inside the app. You have it taking your mic from wave link and going to whatever that jlab gear is

# glad patrol The Jlab is my mic

Yes, so that should be the input device going INTO voice mod. The processed audio from voicemod woudl be an output that needs to go to an input in Wave Link. If Aux 2 is all that's showing up and you have more inputs than that setup in Wave Link reboot the computer (don't forget the list can scroll too - a lot of people miss that)

That said I haven't used that app in a while - you may need to check that it doesn'lt have it's own audio input and output selections that override the Windows defaults

You've output your discord voice output to your MixAmp - Discords voice devices override Windows Sound Mixing (and this Wave Link software routing) so in that config I think you'd only capture notifications from discord itself.

Since you already have the mixamp as your monitor device set the discord output in voice and video settings to voice chat so discord routes its own audio there too outside the windows mixer, and you should be good

“You’re assuming it’s Wave Link. Maybe Wave Link is just a victim.”
Yeah, except Wave Link is the only app that refuses to reopen after the crash, and it’s the only thing that completely loses audio until I reboot. Since I use Wave Link to handle all my system audio, when it crashes, I lose all audio. My mouse freezes, the cursor disappears, and when it comes back, everything else works, except Wave Link. If this was a GPU hang, I’d expect screen issues or visual glitches, but that’s not what’s happening here. I’ve already done everything I can, so I’m just asking for something actionable that helps figure this out.

solemn wyvern
# late jackal “You’re assuming it’s Wave Link. Maybe Wave Link is just a victim.” Yeah, except...

I hear you. But I’m just saying from the perspective of a lot of troubleshooting experience… something is causing a hang, computer pauses taking input presumably because the cpu is maxed all-core or close enough, and probably crashes one of wave link’s background services.
That will cause usually needing a reboot to get wave link back. Unless you can get whichever process to close and reopen. There are a couple background tasks that are part of wave link. That’s what you’re resetting when you reboot, I bet.
But why is the cup spike being caused? No idea.

#

If you want to try fully nuking and reinstalling wave link.
Uninstall, then go delete the wavelink folder at $user/appdata/elgato/
then reboot.
Then install fresh.

If the issue is some corrupted wave link settings file, that will solve it.

Yes it is. The delay if you use the 3.5mm jack on a Wave Mic or Wave XLR interface is much, much shorter though as it doesn't have to take steps to route it back to windows audio and can send it to the device directly.
That said using a wireless headset makes it worse too, since that already adds 20-30 ms of latency (more if Uuing Bluetooth instead of a wireless dongle). You'd generally not hear that on it's own, but it'll stack with the other latency causses making things worse

gritty jackal

Going from the wired jack latency would be about 25ms, about the same as what you'd get in a wireless headset on it's own. Going through a wireless headset is about 80, plus the latncy from the headset itself so it'd probably hit around a tenth of a second. That'd be noticeable if you're trying to game with it.
There was a Low Latency mode for the Game Channel in previous versions, but it had compatibility issues on some systems that could essentially drop the audio on the channel, so it's being reworked but no word on when we'd expect it to return.

Room choice is big there, if you have any choice… square rooms are bad, irregular walls are usually good, and just furniture to break up flat, parallel surfaces.

After that you want to hang acoustic treatment on the walls to absorb sound before it bounces around. Elgato wave panels are decent for the size and ease of use. If you might want/need more than that, thicker panels made from fiberglass insulation are the best. I like GIK acoustics in the USA , and you could find similar products in your area if you’re not in North America.

Well, wave link can add any audio device on your computer to the mixer, in place of an aux channel. (Individual testing notwithstanding)
If you have a wave device, that will always be the mic in wave link, but with a SD+ you can assign the device which will be wave link’s mic.
Or if their mic can be an xlr mic then it would certainly work with wave xlr.
All that said, running their mixer software along with wave link will be complicated at best and possibly cause issues. Can’t say from where I sit how bad or if any problems would happen.

There was a low latency mode specifically for the game channel in some of the older versions - but it was temporarily pulled due to issues on some systems, especially on older builds of Windows. So you could try going back to Wave Link 1.11 and trying your luck with that until they bring it back. But aside from that there's not much way around it as it comes from multiple sources (eg, just using a USB audio device like a headset or a interface adds some for USB transmission - though not usually perceivable at that point, once you start adding on software processing, and handoffs between apps and drivers on the computer, it can start to add up).

# vernal crypt Hi i have q aquestion have a new streamdeck + i set every invidual audio channel...

Any channels you remove from stream mix and add separately to OBS, are not being controlled by wave link. You’ll have to turn those down in OBS.
Anything still included in the stream mix, changes to volume in wave link will be reflected in any app listening to the stream mix.

The idea is, wave link receives audio and mixes that into its outputs.

If you add the music channel to OBS, you’re telling OBS to listen to the same source that wave link is listening to, instead of the output from wave link.

No. It’s just an in-line transformer that causes the ground connection to be floated across the transformer wiring instead of directly connected between the devices. Preventing (or greatly reducing) buzz in the case of an electrical ground loop.

Is there anything that you can adjust in the wave link to help with IEM? To help get better sound out of them

solemn wyvern
# buoyant lichen Is there anything that you can adjust in the wave link to help with IEM? To help...

Usually when people have issues with IEM it’s because they are very low input impedance, which causes hiss when powered by an amp that isn’t well matched for them. I would hope that when someone is getting advice for specialized listening devices like IEMs that require a specialized amp to perform well, the advice would include what amp to get. But this does come up here from time to time so I guess not always.

The answer is get an amp that is a better match for them electrically. Either feed it with 3.5mm from the wave device, or it might be a DAC that is usb. 8’ which case send your monitor mix to that dac instead of the on-board wave device headphone output and accept the additional latency that incurs.

(Or use headphones that operate at more typical input impedance so you don’t need a specialized device)

I actually have my wave xlr (same
Thing, basically) run a 3.5mm cable to my speakers, which have a headphone jack. So I can plug in headphones or use speakers, all controlled by wave xlr knob.
It works well. So that might be a good solution when you have an amp that’s more of a good match for the iem’s. But do check that it’s even a problem first. The wave xlr has a low impedance mode which drops it to around 16ohms, which is quite low for headphones.
But going into a second amp is technically two amp stages… so that’s not like… the best way to do it from a clean signal perspective. But these are pretty high end stuff so it’s not a big deal for the function.
I prefer that to adding more latency by adding a digital hop to a different usb sound device in wave link.

Okay, I'm wrestling a bit with the new updates for Wavelink and Wave Central and it seems nobody has a direct answer when I search it up.

I was able to find my installed Plugins but they aren't being read by Wavelink no matter where I place them and all. Reaper, Cakewalk, Davinci Resolve/Fairlight can see the Plugins just fine with no issues and I'm slowly pulling my hair out what I'm doing wrong.

I had a Plugin from Wave Central installed called Clarity VFX and it works fine inside Wavelink until now, it's just the new ones that won't- they're called DeReverb, C4, Vocal Rider, and RVox

Any suggestions to try would be helpful and if that doesn't work I'll probably send an official support ticket.

Things I've done:

  • Reinstall Wavelink
  • Downgrade Wavelink
  • Repair in Waves Central
  • Clear Cache in Waves Central
  • Re-install all the Plugins in Waves Central
  • Use the organise Plugin tool inside Waves Central

Only thing I haven't done is re-install Wave Central itself-

PS: Just bought these Plugins so I've never used them in Wavelink before but I've tried them in Reaper and Fairlight so the Plugins are not the issue.

solemn wyvern
# smoky forum Okay, I'm wrestling a bit with the new updates for Wavelink and Wave Central and...

Hi there.
So those are plugins from waves, and since waves uses a shell layer, wave link probably won’t see the need to scan for new plugins through that. If the version of the wavesshell.vst didn’t change… wave link doesn’t get it. (Other apps like DAWs are smarter than this)
If you can force wave link to rescan that should work. If it doesn’t, you could try removing the waveshell completely and then scanning, and then bring it back.

All else fails, I should mention that clarityVX, maxxvolume, and silk vocal are the only waves plugins I have personally tried in wave link, so the others might have compatibility issues.

Yup, so that device is the raw mic, without any effects you might be using in wave link.
MicrophoneFX is meant to be selected so it will sound the way you want with any effects.

If that’s cutting out, it would have to be caused by network problems, or if you have any of the discord noise reduction or echo cancellation turned on, I suppose it could be that. But that isn’t really how you described so.
I think I would assume it’s network related, which happens from time to time with discord.
(I record a few podcasts with discord so it does happen with some people’s network somewhat regularly)

You can test by running a local recording at the same time. The voice recorder app. Make sure you set microphoneFX as the windows default input so it’s getting the same audio as discord.

Ok, as long as you understand that volume has to be controlled in OBS for those channels.
(Or editing)
Anyway, I don’t know what to tell you. Those channels are inputs for wave link, so nothing in wave link can mute them. Might be windows doing something.
Or something funny about your OBS install? Is it portable mode? Launching admin mode? I don’t know. But it’s not wave link.

solemn wyvern

From experience with OBS…. Seems like the audio device would have to be changing ids for OBS to lose it. Which should only happen when wave link does an update large enough that the virtual device ids need to be updated.
So that makes me think maybe something is funny about OBS, or maybe just something funny about your config but I don’t know what.

# upper geyser this is how it is currently

Thanks.
I see your mic channel is routed to the monitor mix, which means it will play into your headphones, and with latency (since its host-based audio mixer) so that usually sounds like an echo.
A little bit of latency on your own voice will be the only part of the mix that sounds delayed.
Just mute that mic channel to the monitor mix and you won’t hear it from wave link.

Maybe your previous setup had gain on the output. GoXlr has processing on hardware and probalby has gain. So it might not be that this is quieter (digital audio is what it is, 100% is just that, can't be more) but rather the other device was boosting things in analog.

Ok that sounds like wave link is working but there might be a driver issue with the fiio usb device.
There are a few different types of audio drivers in windows, and sometimes a device doesn’t seem to be compatible with wave link.
You could reach out to #official-tech-support to see if they have a workaround or some trick.

Also could run a secondary amp off the wave device 3.5mm jack to power headphones you want to use, but aren’t a good electrical match because of their impedance.

upper geyser
solemn wyvern
#

(Or just get headphone that don’t have a super high impedance, so they will sound good with normal amps)

upper geyser
#

i have a lot of headphones but they range from being low enough impedance to get a constant buzz with the wave xlr or just not getting loud enough so the k11 just lets me use any pair i want to

solemn wyvern
#

Sounds like all your headphones are specialty things.
Wave xlr should be fine with anything up to around 250ohm, and the low impedance mode should be good to about 16ohm.

That’s a really wide range.

#

But, you had an amp to use them with, so you’re ahead of a lot of folks that seem to get coached into buying really high impedance headphones (I guess thinking impedance equals quality?) and then have bad results trying to use them with normal amps

upper geyser
#

i was planning to use the wave xlr as my amp and i didnt think id (outgrow it?) but headphones are a slippery slope lol

solemn wyvern
#

What headphones are they? Do they come in different ohm versions?
It’s just such a hassle to have specialty amps, and with wave link you’re also adding more latency, so unless somebody really wants wireless I try to advise going direct into the device.

#

But you already have them so I don’t know what I’m suggesting here…

upper geyser
#

ive got sennheiser hd600s which are 300 ohm and various iems which range from 8 - 30 ohm

#

i hope i find a good solution to my issue because i really dont want to have to change anything around drastically lol

solemn wyvern
#

I’ve heard people be happy with 250ohm cans, but I wouldn’t be surprised if those were already a little quiet.
Anyway, your best bet might be if the high impedance headphone amp can use an aux-in on 3.5mm cable. Feed it from wave link.
The shame about that is double amping. Which feels like it kind of defeats the purpose of having high end headphones in the first place.

#

Or I guess if the usb driver for the amp could be made compatible, I dunno

upper geyser
#

I’ll see what the tech support says when I get an email back realistically I can live without my music being in a seperate channel but if both my k11 and wave xlr worked together seamlessly I’d be a happy man lol thanks again for your help and suggestions it’ll probably just be tons of trial and error

# granite steeple Heya! Wondering if someone else experienced the same issue, as in I would try to...

Hmm, I don’t have an answer for you here except that, it might just be the way it is when using wave link without a wave device (since if you have a wave device there is no selecting a mic at all)

I don’t think I’ve seen anybody trying to change the assigned mic on the fly like that. So I don’t really know if it’s supposed to work better than this or if it’s expected behavior.
Maybe somebody will jump in, but I haven’t seen this question before, for what that’s worth.
I’d check with #official-tech-support to see what they say, if you haven’t already.

Is there any way to check how much latency is added by effects?
It'd be infinitely less tedious than figuring out the number through trial and error

solemn wyvern
# austere oasis Is there any way to check how much latency is added by effects? It'd be infinite...

Wave link does have a way to show it, but you could look up the info if it’s provided by a third party plugin.
But… even then you only know that plugin, not the total in the audio path. It really won’t be accurate anyway.

The best way to sync audio with a camera is just to record a sync video through your capture system, and a hand clap on camera if you’re using a cam.
Measure the offset and set that in OBS.

austere oasis
#

Honestly any number from the program itself would be nice to have a rough idea.
The issue with doing the classic clap sync is that noise suppression suppresses that sometimes

#

I also tried using a mouse click (an abnormally loud one) to sync to what's going on on-screen, but that gets eaten by noise suppression almost every time

solemn wyvern
solemn wyvern
#

Your camera has latency, too. So does capture. And they’re all different and aren’t even the same from one computer to the next.

austere oasis
#

What a number from Wave Link would do though is tell me how the latency changes as I tweak the plugins, say it starts at 20ms, and jumps to 40, then I know to change it by 20ms down the chain

solemn wyvern

I suppose.

There is a change at 41-42db where there is some breaking sound is there. Not sure if there is a switch to a different amplifier but there is white noise noticeable well below there is any sound level displayed. Is this normal but how should one record at decent gain settings without any noise filter?

( @solemn wyvern )

solemn wyvern
solemn wyvern

Then you setup plugins to process the mic, you can add more gain with plugins if you need to, and those will be clean, digital gain. No added noise.

#

But if you have the SM7b with the built in booster, 55dB should be more than enough

#

I suspect you’re too far from the mic, or have lots of noise in your room and the mic is picking up that noise.

(Or you didn’t connect the mic? That’s not a valid test of anything, as I said)

quiet lance

When the SM7DB is connected and set to 28 dB preamp and Wave XLR adds another 55 dB then noise is cleary audible. According to my friends who have the same setup no digital plugins should be needed.

solemn wyvern
# quiet lance When the SM7DB is connected and set to 28 dB preamp and Wave XLR adds another 55...

Gain depends on how loud your voice is. And the noise could be in your room, like I said.
Check that video if you want detail about mic setup. I use 55dB with my dynamic mic and I’m not adding with plugins. Not the exact same mic, but in the same zone.

why cant i find "Microphone FX" as a channel anymore to apply FX to my mic?

gritty jackal
#

Continuging off the other convo, this is where the effects get applied to the mic. The same effects get all outputs, Monitor, Stream and MicFX

solemn wyvern
shadow crest
#

my bad. im thinking of in applications to use the microphone fx that way i get the output of the effects vs dry mic

gritty jackal
#

Yeah, might just be a wording issue - MicFX is virtual device rather than it's own channel. It's basically Stream Mix, but only for the mic input.

#

yeah your right.. i had to look at it again.. i stopped streaming a few years ago so my qupiment hasnt been used much.. just one headset.. now i want good sound and mic back lol. appreciate it

I use wave link to send my audio to my second pc through stream mix. In obs (second pc) can I then split up my audio into different tracks

pastel kayak
#

I know you can if you have wave link and obs on the same pc but I want to know if you can split it up on another pc

gritty jackal
#

No - once the audio feeds are mixed together, you can't unmix them

#

If you need multitrack audio transfer between PCs you either needs multiple lines, some sort of hardware mixer that supports it, or possibly a solution like Voicemeeter's VBAN that can transmit multiple channels over a network.

Okay all good

My Wave Link now picks up a constant buzzing sound from my mic... any solutions? Also why are there so many problems with this hardware?

I am having issues getting my discord voice chat to not come through on my stream

#

I am not sure if I have a setting wrong or what

rain goblet

Discord has two audio channels, one for alerts such as bings when someone types something, and one for actual voices

make sure you have the right one added 🙂

I am saying that I have stream mix disabled in the wave link software for discord, yet it is still coming through on my stream

solemn wyvern
solemn wyvern
#

Ok, and let’s see your wave link?

#

I’m assuming you have voice chat muted to stream mix but just to check.

And then your streaming app audio sources.

fallen monolith
covert plume
#

All your voice chat is going to the monitor mix, so its picking up on Desktop Audio in obs...

fallen monolith
#

I havent used my wave 3 for a bit so i couldnt remember how to set it up

covert plume
#

so you may just be able to disable desktop audio there and keep wave link stream and be golden

fallen monolith
#

I will have to see

#

then how would my stream here the sound from the game i am streaming

solemn wyvern
# fallen monolith 6

This is the problem.
You have your speakers (which you have the monitor mix going to) in OBS in addition to the stream mix.
So OBS is hearing both mixes.

#

Remove the audio source that isn’t stream mix

#

Disable that one

fallen monolith
#

So only have wavelink stream? for the mic/aux?

covert plume
#

wave link puts everything you want stream to hear into one nice little output called stream mix. Looks like your mic is set to output there too via your wavelink mixer image

#

set it and check if thats more in line with what youre looking to achieve

solemn wyvern
#

Everything you have mixed into stream mix, will be included in that one source

fallen monolith
#

I have not used this for 3 years, cause it was in storage

I had no way to set it up. I just got the wave desk stand

I had a mic arm that wont attach to the table my computer sits on

Any luck with getting your mix sorted the way you wanted?

fallen monolith
#

I dont think so

#

they changed the software with the latest update

covert plume
#

Who? Elgato or OBS?

fallen monolith
#

Both

#

this is absolutely annoying

#

there is no sound coming through for my chat to hear now from any game and I try to renable the audio area and OBS will not show it

covert plume
#

add the games to you game source in wavelink...

#

I didnt realize they werent already pathed... hit the plus sign, add the game, and your game audio should go to you monitor and your stream mix the way your wavelink screenshot showed

#

Are you live currently?

#

it is different than it was 3 years ago that is true, but imo, its alot more integrated so you dont have to do all this through windows sound mixer, which was a pain in the Peach

fallen monolith
#

No i am not

#

this is very very confusing now

eh, agree to disagree. Set those and it should come through. Feel free to let us know if you still have issues.

Does anyone know why wave link would be crashing when adding a mic input to the channel strip?

More specifically, I have a Universal Audio VOLT 76p (4 input audio interface) and when adding Input 1-2 as an input on the channel strip, it instantly crashes the application. I can add Input 3-4 just fine, but Input 1-2 crashes. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program (with deleting contents from %appdata% and other locations of left over data) and it still does this. I've reinstalled the Volt interface driver a few times as well.

fallen monolith

Okay I think i finally figured it out haha

sheesh this new way is a bit confusing but I think I finally got OBS to freaking behave with it

I just wanted to ask: what is the current firmware version for the Wave:3?
I've read that Wave Link v2 might have issues properly updating the firmware, so before I consider downgrading, I just want to make sure there's actually a newer version available.

how is the elgato wave 3 when used on discord, does keyboard noise pop up a lot and loudly or is it not that noticable or at all if everything is set up right

any other mic arms you would recommend for the wave 3 or would you say just go with the elgato one

rain goblet
#

Lots of them 'perform' about the same but they're also around the same price, the best thing about the Elgato ones if the clamp for the desk, dampens vibrations and the ratchet mechanism is unique and best

#

unless you go for the Mic Arm Pro, noone can beat that

#

it has a gaspiston spring and you can move it around as you like without having to adjust any bolts and such after it's calibrated once for the weight of the mic you use

#

all other mic arms you have to adjust the tension of bolts to move it around or you will wear out the mechanism

Device:OMEN by HP 16-wf1004TX
Software & Version:OBS 31.1.1 Elgato 4K X 25.2.10
Windows/Mac Version:Windows 11 Home/24H2
Question/Issue:After connecting the Japanese version of the Nintendo Switch 2 to the Elgato 4K X and checking the output in OBS, the video is displayed without any issues, but there's a problem where only the audio is not being recognized.

For the connection, I used the HDMI cable that came with the Switch 2 for the input, and the HDMI cable that came with the Elgato 4K X for the output.
As for the connection to the PC, I did not use the USB Type-C cable included with the Elgato 4K X. Instead, I used a Thunderbolt 4 cable from a brand called Anker.
This is because when I tried connecting the Elgato 4K X to the PC using the included USB Type-C cable, the PC failed to recognize the device.
All of the Type-C ports on my PC support the Thunderbolt standard.

While checking the settings screen on the Switch 2, I noticed that under the audio section, the "Current Output and Input" shows the audio output as set to the built-in speakers, and I’m unable to change it.
This is the case even though no earphones or audio devices are directly connected to the Switch 2.

I watched the following video: https://youtu.be/gnvPctcVpAE?si=4kAz8qcUxCFwG-Q1, but it did not resolve the issue.
If there are any other settings I should try adjusting, I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

Hello, I have a question. I am using a shure sm7b along with Wave xlr. I been tweaking my settings alot. But no matter what I do, my mic is still picking up background noise. I even added filters to my obs but still nothing.

Voice focus is about the best real-time noise reduction available right now.
Make sure you are checking recordings of the microphoneFX output, not the direct monitoring in your headphones, as that won’t include effects.

If voice focus isn’t enough to clean up the noise in your mic you must have some very loud noise. I’d suggest getting pc case off the desk and away from the mic if the fans are loud, quiet down or remove other noise sources from proximity to the mic.

Getting a clean mic signal isn’t special magic; it’s having a quiet environment with noise sources as far from the mic as possible, being close to the mic and setting your gain appropriately, and then letting modern noise reduction like voice focus get the rest.

solemn wyvern
#

Worth noting that voice focus (like any advanced noise reduction these days) is detecting human voices and working to clean that. So if you play music that has voices in it, the processor will probably let some of that through.
