The format the device is set to play audio out in
Eg, there's stereo, Dolby Digital, Dolby Atmos, Pulse 3d, etc
it may also be set specifically in whatever game you're using
You may also want to make sure your laptop isn't applying noise cancellation to the audio feed
If you hook things up so the tablet connects to a TV or somethign instead does the audio play normally there?
It'd be good to know if the tablet is outputting audio normally so we know if the hiccup is the tablet output or the capture card input
besides a tv, what's another option
A monitor if it has speakers will work
Audio extractor or reciever too
we just want to make sure there's valid audio on that HDMI output
I typically use Discord on my Xbox for VC but I really am so new to all of this and don't know much. I didn't start gaming until about 5 years ago and only started using Discord in December. What would your suggestion be overall. A new wired headset or can I keep the one I have an get a standalone mic. I just really hate a headset plugged into my controller. The wires always get broken and it frustrates me.
Depends what your goals are. If you want to be able to do voice chat in the game, there will need to be a headset on the console.
Discord could be run in either place, so it’s kind of your preference.
But if your voice gets to the stream, it has to be from a mic on the computer. Some people have a headset mic for the console and another for the stream.
now I wish my old pc didn't die
I just want to stream for fun and be able to clip funny stuff. When I am streaming people can only hear me so it's boring for them.
Did this work on your old PC? Or did you have a different capture card on that?
no I just realized that I wouldn't have this whole issue if I had a pc instead a laptop
my monitor was originally from a pc. except it would black out all the time so now I have a laptop with an expensive monitor
Right so, I think the first thing to decide is… do you need in game voice chat?
If no, then you can connect your headset to the computer, send audio over HDMI and capture them both and monitor them both on the computer. There’s a small bit of audio latency in that setup. But it’s the simplest solution with that you have now.
Glad to hear you've got it sorted out
okay so the sound does work. but is it necessary to include an audio input capture or does the video capture include the game audio?
Video capture should work.
If it doesn’t for some reason, adding an audio input capture (selecting the same device) usually fixes it.
okay ty
video capture worked when w/o a microphone
since I'm using wired earbuds, that didn't work
however adding an audio input capture fixed the issue
just in case, I muted the video capture
Oh that’s strange, but yeah you have it right that you don’t want two copies of the sound.

For the elgato hd60 x in a dual pc setup
instead of plugging ur montor to hdmi out ON the elgato capture card
ok 1 thing why would u plug hdmi out to the main monitor, isn't it better to plug ur pc hdmi out directly to the monitor so it's less lantency since if u use elgato hdmi out ur basically playing from the elgato card so there should be a 150 ms delay to the main monitor, can't u just use like a usb c to hdmi adapter plug it in a usb c thunderbolt and then hdmi to the hdmj in and leave the hdmi out unused
Helloo!!!!
Is there anyone who can help me configure HD60x with two PCs correctly so that I don't have any delays or difficulties on a gaming PC because I have no idea how to set it up better?
Should be the way I said it before
But I’m asking for confirmation
I set up display cloning and OBS output to the streaming PC, but it’s still not working properly. Can you explain the correct HD60 X setup for dual PC streaming—so I can play at 180 Hz and stream or record in 1080p? I’m asking about the setup before connecting HDMI and USB-C. Feel free to reply via private message
@warped ledge can i do this
the HDMI passthrough circuit skips processing in the card and passes the video to HDMI out without the extra latency - that's why it exists in the first place, since you only have single outputs on consoles. Passthrough lets you play using the HDMI port to a TV or monitor without the extra latency. The latency you get would be in the software on the computer, because of the delay added to convert the HDMI into something the PC can use and send it over the USB.
Also no modern Elgato capture card should be hitting 150ms latency, unless you're using MJPEG compression. The newest ones are down closer to 30ms, or about 2-3 frames of video at 60hz, and even the previous generation was only the 60-70ms range usually.
That said if you are working with a Dual PC setup, the main advantage of bypassing the HDMI OUT on HD60 X is because HD60 X is a HDMI 2.0 card - running your monitor off DisplayPort and cloning it to the card lets you run at higher refresh rates on the main monitor than HDMI 2.0 supports, while the GPU splits a lower refresh rate copy off for the card.
What issues are you hitting specifically?
After cloning the display, my gaming PC works fine for a while, but then the refresh rate drops to around 50–60Hz, even though it's locked at 180Hz in 2K.
Currently, I'm sending the signal via OBS to my streaming PC, but the quality is worse than with cloning, and I can't get it set up right.
I tried changing "Internal Display" settings in Elgato to 1080p and 1440p, but it didn’t help.
Any ideas?
Wait, are you cloning using OBS Fullscreen Projector, or Windows / GPU software? When using OBS Projector to clone it'd be in extended mode.
If you're cloning with the other software you need to make sure you clone the monitor to the card and not the card to the monitor or it'll lock the modes to what the card supports, including both resolution and refresh rate.
It's unusual to see it drop off during play unless there's something like a heat issue causing the GPU or CPU to throttle down the workload though
Ok maybe not 150 ms but direct connection to monitor would be 0 added lantency so like 0 ms of lag but with elgato as a middle man it would be like 1-4 ms atleast so isn’t it better to play with those 4 ms less
I mean still not noticeable
But 1-4 is 1-4
Probably 1-4, possibly sub-ms, it gets hard to measure that low. At that point you might have similar delays even on GPU splitting, hard to say.
A lot of PC users will hook up HD60 X in a cloned setup (or extended with OBS setup) anyway, to work around HDMI 2.0 limits these days - so it's perfectly fine to bypass the card for the main monitor if you want
u mean similar delay with the usb c to hdmi adapter
?
so i got gaming laptop + macbook air 2024 (streaming pc)
so basically
i was gonna
plug laptop to monitor directly
so 0 added lantency
THEN
since on my gaming laptop there is only 1 hdmi port i was gonna use the usb C thunderbolt port and use that i would plug a usb c to hdmi adapter then another hdmi cable to connect adapter to elgato hdmi in and just not use hdmi out
@past basin u think this way is better or u think the adapter route would almost lag the same
but im pretty sure my method has max like 1 ms
unlike 1-4
Bought an Elgato 4K60 Pro MK.2 to capture Switch 2 footage so I'm trying to test my Switch (no reason why that wouldn't work right?), I cannot for the life of me get it to do anything other than 480p (the issue is in both 4K Capture Utility and OBS). Figured I'd send this here while I hunt for another HDMI to try (but the HDMI was working fine with my HD60 S a few hours ago so I'm doubtful it's that)
Yeah, def not the cable
On my external card I don’t use hdmi out, because I’m pulling it from my main gaming monitor.
Switch can’t do 1440p, right?
I've tried pretty much every other setting
From 1080p to 3440x1440
As well as default of course
Is the passthrough connected to a display?
It wasn't, then I read someone online said they did that and it worked so I tried it (it didn't work) but then I tried it without again
I think this has to be something to do with EDID. I’m not really an expert in that
Edid is the signal that tells the device what the display (that the capture card is pretending to be) is capable of.
Well that's the thing, the only online troubleshooting is in relation to the EDID but I've tried every setting (resetting the Switch after each) and nothing has worked
So like ur pc is connected directly to ur monitor and what?
How do u make it work
U have hdmi in connected to ur gpu
But then ur monitor to what
ur pc?
So like u got 2 hdmi cables one for pc to monitor
Then other one from elgato hdmi in to gpu?
what is the best method to play in 2k 180hz and use hdmi to record in 1080p 60hz
I can make a video on that. I think I have one though… I’ll have to write the steps down after work, though today’s a busy day.
ok do it please cause i also use mac i got a macbook as streaming pc and gaming laptop as gaming pc
Do you have a wave link device?
Just tested brand new "high performance" HDMI wires and my other Switch and both still have the issue, so it has to be the capture card
i will install it
my capture card still didnt arrive
but the elgato card has 3 ports
so my gaming laptop has 1 hdmi port right and i was thinking to plug a hdmi directly to monitor so its 0 lantency added, but if i use that only hdmi port to connect to elgato hdmi out then using elgato to monitor that is like a middle man so i was thinking the process would add like a 2-3 ms delay
and i play competitive games i dont want extra lantency
so i saw ur video and i saw u not using the elgato hdmi out and leaving it be (unused) so i was wondering how u do it
but its not much
so idk
how u do it
Depends on what you need. Cloning is the easiest to setup - though it will keep you from using HDR because Windows locks out HDR on cloned displays.
OBS Projecotr with the card setup as extended screen opens a few more options but is harder to setup - it does allow you to run things at other resolutions since OBS can scale the projector screen though.
For most setups I go with cloning
I think the best method for me is using OBS Projector — it allows playing in exclusive fullscreen, although the image quality is lower.
You need a wave device to use it, but I’ll create the steps later. I know you probably are eager to start this right now, but I have a full workload and I’m not gonna be available until after 6 PM CST today.
Ultra High Speed 8K 60hz 4K 120hz HDMI still didn't work with the Elgato 4K60 Pro, the Switch is still coming out 480p
alr i sleep then now when i wake up ill check
It’s not the capture card it’s the switch sometimes it’ll get stuck in handheld mode versus doc mode. Remove the dock from the capture card HDMI in and connected to a regular TV or gaming monitor for now. Wait for it to dock and show 1080p, and then reconnect it to your capture card.
Straight back to 480p afterwards
I guess one thing is that when I put it in the PC, I wasn't required to install anything to run it, meaning that my PC preloaded the drivers, anyone know where I might be able to access them and uninstall/reinstall them? I can't find anything in Device Manager
I did also install the drivers anyway (after I noticed the issue) but I think a clean boot of the drivers might help
Tried my other PC in it, with that I get a black screen with it saying "Source: 768p60" on any settings
-
I have a 4k60 pro mk.2, it supports HDR passthrough right?
-
My gaming pc can run HDR no problem, but isn't supported when the 4k60 pro mk.2 (which is in my streaming pc) is in use.
-
My streaming pc currently has a GTX 970, is that my problem?
-
My 4k capture utility is up to date and I have "Use HDR Tonemapping on device" and "Enable HDR Tonemapping on device when closing software" enabled.
Are you cloning your screen to the capture card? Windows disables HDR on cloned displays
Oof. Yeah that's what I'm doing.... Is there another way to record my gameplay from my main gaming pc and keep my hdr?
Yes , though it's a bit more complex - you can use OBS to software clone the screen (doesn't hit nearly as hard as doing actual encoding on the machine since you're just duplicating it).
You'll need to configure OBS for HDR video first (and have tonemapping off that you've already done). You'll need OBS setup for HDR on both machines - EposVox has some videos on doing that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A7beDFV5H0&list=PLzo7l8HTJNK_HIUFhcIqOKSmlz0u0VJpB
After that instead of cloning the screen to the capture card, leave the capture card's virtual screen on the gaming PC in extended mode instead of duplicate/clone, and setup OBS to include either your game or main display then right click the preview and select Fullscreen projector and send it to the capture card's virtual screen.
Thanks for the super informative response. This was WAY easier than I expected it to be.
I don't think there's going to be a fix for my issue is there
There is, but it’s the Switch staying in handheld mode vs tv
Both of my Switchs did it, the quality of handheld mode is higher quality than what was coming through the 4K60 Pro and I plugged in my other PC and it was "768p60" before being unrecognised by the capture card all together. So no, I don't think it's because my Switch thinks it's in handheld mode
It’s more than likely is when you’re docking your switch that either the HDMI cables are not secure or that it’s not docking properly
So how do you explain the PC?
It has to be the capture card, I've tried loads of different HDMI cables, every setting in the software and exactly what you suggested with plugging the console into other displays, but nothing has budged the Switch from being 480p when plugged into the capture card
got a camlink 4k and attached to is is a panasonic g7, for some odd reason every 10 or so minutes the camlink will just freeze / disconnect and render the image not usable. got it connected directly into my usb 3.0 header at the back of my motherboard. my motherboard is a asus b850 tuf
Change that EDID off Internal. You've got it set to Internal and then specifically set to 1440p - Switch doesn't support 1440p, and setup that way it's the only option it's going to see, so it's going to keep defaulting down to 480p
I have checked every single EDID setting and it's still 480p, I also reset the Switch after each
What does it mean when my output is stuck at 1080p60, even though I have the format set to 2160p60? It says 'Input format is 1080p60. Output has been reduced to the same format.' this is on an HD60X
Have you swapped out the dock yet?
Unless there's some hidden settings, I'm not sure if there's much else to try
It means what you're trying to record is in 1080p so it's stepping down to match
That's the one thing I haven't tried but even so, it doesn't explain the PC not working, I will try it but it's not a preferable fix
I've missed something -what do you mean PC not working?
^^^
Makes sense, for some reason I thought that despite the Switch only displaying at 1080p, the file would force it to 2160
Should I set my bitrate all the way to 60 mbps?
The capture card can't upscale on it's own, so it has to fall back to 1080p.
I wouldn't generally crank the rate to 60 Mbps, especially for only 1080p. That would stress the video encoder on some systems, and would result in extremely large video files
What bit rate would you recommend?
for 1080p? If it's a local recording probably 15 or 20. I usually suggest making test recordings at a couple settings and going with the one that's lowest but still gets a quality you're okay with
It gets weirder, the other dock isn't even recognised
What even 😐 You have anything other than the switch you can test in there? Even a HDMI from the same computer would work well enough to test if this is switch specific or capture card related
Awesome, thanks for the help!
What's the EDID on right now to be safe? I'd suggest merged, or Internal with the bottom option set to default
Internal 1080p (since I figured it's the most relevant)
Are you connecting the HDMI out on the card to another display? If so do you get signal there?
Just plugged one in and it's not going through, same as earlier for a while
It was going through until I switched dock though
Swapped back, first dock works with output but still 480p
The dock that "works" is the OLED dock, the one that doesn't is the original Switch dock
Does this still work if you put your old HD60 S back? Or is that no longer an option?
You might need to put in a ticket with #official-tech-support on this one, to see if they can see what's going on here.
I would suggest testing it with something other than the Switch if at all possible, too
I've emailed and I'm waiting for a response through that, my PC didn't work and my HD60 S was working fine yesterday so I imagine it'd still be working fine now, I just had to unplug my extra USB ports I had to try the Capture Card on it's own (which also did nothing)
when you remove the capture card, and plug it directly to the tv does it go into 1080p?
Yes
Then it goes back to 480p when plugged into the capture card again
ok, keep it docked, and plug it into the capture card.
did you undock it?
I've tried both
When a Nintendo Switch reverts to 480p when using a capture card, it often indicates a resolution mismatch or a problem with the capture card's ability to recognize the Switch's signal. The solution typically involves adjusting the Switch's TV settings, verifying the capture card's compatibility and settings, and ensuring a proper HDMI connection.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of how to troubleshoot and fix the 480p issue:
- Check Switch TV Settings:
Undock the Switch: Go to System Settings > TV Settings > TV Resolution and set it to 480p.
Dock the Switch: Re-dock the Switch and return to the same settings. The 1080p option should now appear.
Choose 1080p: Select 1080p and verify the resolution is correct on your TV. - Verify Capture Card Compatibility:
Check for Compatibility: Ensure your capture card is designed to work with Nintendo Switch and its HDMI signal.
Update Drivers: Make sure the drivers for your capture card are up-to-date. - Check HDMI Connections and EDID:
Use a Quality HDMI Cable:
Ensure you're using a high-quality HDMI cable that supports the necessary bandwidth.
Verify EDID:
The capture card may not recognize the Switch's EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) properly. Some solutions involve adjusting the EDID settings within the capture card's software.
4. Adjust Capture Card Settings:
Select the Correct Video Input:
In your capture card's software, ensure you're selecting the correct video input (usually HDMI) and audio input.
Set the Correct Resolution:
If the capture card allows you to set the output resolution, make sure it's set to 1080p or 720p, depending on your needs.
5. Consider Other Potential Issues:
TV/Monitor Settings:
Your TV or monitor might have settings that are limiting the Switch's output resolution.
Hardware Issues:
In rare cases, there might be a hardware issue with the Switch dock or the capture card itself.
By systematically checking these areas, you should be able to identify and resolve the 480p issue and get your Switch recording or streaming at the desired resolution.
Do you have HDMI Out to you TV or Gaming Monitor that is 1080p?
Yeah, this was pretty much the troubleshoot response email I got, I read it quickly but it looks like I've done everything in that message
I've tried HDMI out to both my 4K and 1080p monitors
I'd advise working with #official-tech-support from here on out.
That's the plan but I'm still open to suggestions in case there's something I haven't tried or someone else has had the same issue
has @past basin already tried to help you as well?
or @lone crypt
1.) Make sure HDMI IN is connected to you Gaming PC's GPU/Laptop - Duplicate your Main - Make sure Main is your Gaming Monitor/Laptop
2.) Connected the USB-C to the capture card, and the usb-c/usb-a to your Mac via Thunderbolt, or usb hub that is capable of usb 3.2
3.) On Mac OS, install Capture Device Utility for Mac OS at https://www.elgato.com/us/en/s/downloads
4.) Configure your settings - I use on my EDID Display to prevent screen tearing
5.) As for audio - In Sounds Settings/More Sound Settings/Recording (Screen Shot for reference) If you have a wave device you can use wave link on your gaming pc, and route it over to your streaming pc via Wave Link Stream. Make sure you mute any stream icons you don't want routed to your capture card. If you're not using a wave device via wave link, you can still set the main audio to listen and route to the capture card. You could also use other software such as voicemeeter banana/potato it's recommended using streamer view once everything is setup. https://voicemeeter.com/the-voicemeeter-streamer-view-app-overview/ if you go this route, you would route the virtual cable to the capture card (Like
6.) Setup in your favorite streaming software, via OBS, Meld Studio, Streamlabs, etc... Then Go LIVE, or Record.
7.) Happy Streaming! (Hope this helps!)
what’s ur monitor connected to then?
Even if I plug hdmi in to laptop
My monitor is not connected to anything it won’t just turn on
What laptop do you have?
I got rog strix scar 18
@warped ledge Hi, could I ask for advice on how to best set up 4K Capture Utility for a dual-PC setup? I’m gaming in 2K and streaming in 1080p. Should I be cloning the display?
Dual pc should be cloning the display.
And capture utility is not for streaming.
yes I know it is not but you can change the resolution setting etc. after setting the elgato clone it shows me 4k resolution and I can't change it
If your capture card can’t handle the gaming resolution, you will need to scale the clone.
Nvidia GPUs can scale the resolution and refresh rate of a clone in their control panel.
If you have AMD I’d recommend changing the close to extended display at the streaming res, and an instance of OBS full screen preview projector.
I have nvidia but after cloning I can't change the resolution Elgato I have 4070ti super gpu. Elgato takes over the resolution of 2k but Active becomes 4k
It doesn’t matter what the capture card calls for, a GPU can send whatever resolution it wants. And nvidia can scale a clone to be different from the main display. (Same image, called resolution)
After setting up the clone and making main display the desired resolution Go to nvidia control panel > Adjust Desktop Size and Position > select your capture card and set the scaling to its desired resolution and then set scaling to happen on GPU.
Capture card is just publishes what it is capable of, like a display would.
I did this for years gaming at 1440p120 cloning into the HD60S+ scaled to 1080p60
Until I switched to AMD. Now I use OBS preview projector since the AMD control software doesn’t do scaling like nvidia can.
With way works perfectly well.
When I get home I'll send you a private message what I mean, ok?
No thanks. I’m available to respond, as my schedule allows, in the help channels.
If the nvidia control panel thing doesn’t work then just use an OBS instance on the game pc, extended display mode instead of clone, and OBS full screen projector onto that display.
But it always worked for me so I suggest that first.
these are the options I'm currently using but somehow the stream is ugly
Ugly?
Hi, I have a question.
To record your voice on OBS Studio, you plug your headset with built-in microphone into your PC, or you plug it into the Elgato HD60 X, the Chat Link Pro, and then you plug in your headset with built-in microphone and the controller, or you plug the headset somewhere else because I don't want any video/voice and video/audio lag from the game.
Please reply and mention me.
When using analog headset connection to the console controller, The chat link pro cable is a splitter that sends a copy of what you hear in your headset…. To the capture card’s analog audio input.
So that is exactly what you hear, so it doesn’t include your voice.
And doesn’t cause any latency.
For the stream to hear your voice, you need a second mic connected to the computer and added to the recording/stream software as a second audio input.
Okay, thanks. If I understand correctly, I need to connect my headset from the PC, not the Chat Link Pro, for people to hear my voice. Is that right?
And will there be a delay between the game video/audio for me and a delay between the game video/audio and the video/voice in the final recording?
When you say “people” do you mean the stream?
Or party/game voice chat on the console?
Viewers on YouTube
Only a mic connected to the streaming computer can be included in the stream.
If you’re listening to headphones connected to the computer then there will be a bit of latency in the audio, since you’re hearing it after the capture card. It won’t be a lot, a couple of frames, usually, but it depends on your computer configuration.
To have no audio latency at all, you would listen to the console directly and it doesn’t matter if the stream is a few frames behind since you’re hearing the audio in real time.
That’s why people set up the chat link pro cable and added a mic to the pc to capture your voice for stream.
And that also gets your voice to game voice chat if you want that.
If you don’t need to send voice to the console then you could connect the headset to the computer and see if the latency doesn’t bother you.
Interesting, you're saving me, but my problem is that I only have one microphone, and it's in my headset, so how many ms of latency do I have to deal with?
And in the final file of the recording on OBS Studio, will there be a lag for the viewers or not?
It depends on the capture card and how much latency your system is creating, but it might not be bad. You’d have to try it out and see.
Stream is always behind so don’t worry about that, the only thing you should consider is if you have a camera, you want the lip sync between your mic and the face cam to be in sync.
For that, you need to measure with some test recordings in OBS.
So you set up the audio and video sources. You can start a recording and then clap in front of the camera.
Then zoom into frames on that video and see how far off the audio is in MS… and then account for that with audio sync offset, which is in OBS advanced audio settings. Each source can be offset.
(Click the cog or right-click in the audio mixer
But that’s not really what you were asking about so I hadn’t brought it up.
The biggest latency is going to come from the OBS preview. Capture card audio comes in, and then you set OBS monitor device to be your headset, and sent the capture card audio source to “monitor and output” (also in OBS advanced audio settings)
It’s enough to bother me on my system, but newer cards are different.
Really, you’re not intended to be playing to audio (or watching video) of the preview window. Consoles are intended to use the passthrough to get it to a display without that processing latency.
The best thing would be to just get a mic for the computer, if you want to stream console to YouTube.
Yes, it's just for making videos, not streams yet. I'm not showing my face. I'll be using the Elgato HD60 X.
@lone crypt
And thanks for your time to answer me you saved my life and my YouTube channel
And I wait for you answer
If there is no camera then no need to do audio sync offset in OBS.
It’s just a matter of if the latency is uncomfortable to listen to while playing the game.
And the only real solution is to add a mic to the PC, so you can listen to the console directly from the controller headphone port, and have the separate mic for recording voice.
Yes, I would like to, but since I don't have a second microphone, I would have to plug the headset with the microphone into the PC or there are techniques with Chat Link Pro and OBS Studio
And if not, how long is the delay for me and my audience on YouTube for videos and streams?
not clearly worse than cloning
The latency of the capture card depends on your card and your computer, as I said. But it’s not lag for the video viewer, it’s lag for you as you play
I don’t know what this means.
The directions were for cloning.
You said it was ugly, but then “not clearly worse”
Is there a problem? Please be clear and descriptive
Hi, i bought Elgato Game Capture HD (the older one) for really cheap but i have some issue with it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIrL9X8u17E
i have this stutters and jittering on preview and on recordings (no matter the source, analog component or digital hdmi)
My Specs:
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core Processor
Video Card AMD Radeon (TM) R9 380 Series
Operating System Windows 8.1 (64bit)
RAM 16 GB
Tried 3 different software versions, instaling and reinstaling drivers, different usb ports (2.0 and 3.0), switching quality settings from lowest to highest (none seem to make a change with stutters)
any ideas?

Approximately how long do you think I'll have to wait?
Because it's a audio time delay ?
You have to try it out and see. We can’t really estimate from computer specs.
This computer is extremely old and weak. I expect the trouble is your computer is struggling to composite and encode the video
There are not appproximately ?
But thanks for help.
So for conclude, I need to connect the mic in the PC and not buy the Chat link Pro
That’s right. The chat link pro cable is for including voice chat from the console game in the stream.
Thanks for you time
Not sure how you’re connecting the gpu, but you’d want to connect the hdmi in from the capture card to the hdmi 2.1 port on your laptop via gaming pc. This is the data I found on the laptop model.
Now I understand for the mic to connect on the PC and not to the Elgato HD60 X.
If you're not here @lone crypt I am block
Thanks for the response but i think its a bit strange.
My setup is pretty old, but it was pretty good at the time of the card release (2012-2013). Anyway i will consider upgrades then.
maybe something just broke along the way and it doesnt work the same way as back then
The computer worked fine for recording video at this resolution and frame rate, at the time that this capture card came out?
I’m not saying there is anything wrong with the computer, I’m just skeptical it is powerfull enough for the encoding you’re asking it to do.
Are you using OBS? Or capture utility?
Try whichever one you haven’t already.
When trying OBS, show the statistics panel in the view options where you can see frames dropped and what part of the process they are dropping from. And you can analyze your OBS logs to see if it’s noticing any warnings.
To be 100% honest, i didnt used that card back then.
Maybe that was foolish, but i asked chat gpt about my specs compared to standards when this card was new, ai said that my pc was overkill for it, even with highest quality.
About software, i can only use original Game Capture app since OBS cannot show me feed, dont know why (i just heard its about having OBS in 64 bit and having drivers for card in 32, those dont work in that setting)
im not too "pc savy", i tried obs 32 bit and it didnt worked, and its a bit harder to find build that works on windows 8.1
Your operating system being older than windows 10 is holding the software back
that might be the case, even trivial thing like "check for updates" seems to freeze app for couple of seconds, without any effect after it
proper pc upgrade was in my plans anyway, maybe that will fix these issues, thanks for your time
what @lone crypt said, also these are the ideal steps, but ignore the sound capture part as that is a legacy software. if you use wave link with a wave device, then you'd set the wave link stream to listen in the more sound settings, and select your capture card for audio routing. https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360049800232-PC-Game-Recording-with-Elgato-Game-Capture-4K60-Pro-MK-2-Setup
Hey! Which one is better way to use a Elgato capture card:
- connect Elgato Capture card straight as video capturecard in OBS
or - Virtual cam it from the 4k utility SW?
Has anyone tried?
Virtual cam is intended for when you need to add an external capture card to more than one app at a time.
I was thinking that I have my capture card on PCI port and I have my consoles in it. So I show the feed on OBS and also on my screen as I have HDmi connected to the monitor from the Capture Card. So I was wondering How I can make it so that I don't have to change the feed input and maybe amke it easier for my PC.
Because now I have some audio sync problems so I wondered if that fixes it
Taking tha game feed from 4k utility instead of video capture straight to OBS
You need a second display connected to the capture card passthrough. That will be almost zero latency.
OBS preview or capture utility have more latency because of the capture card processing and however long it takes your computer to composite the image.
Virtual camera doesn’t help with any of that; in fact, it has some additional latency on top of that.
Fewer processing and fewer hops is how you’d get lower latency.
The intended use for consoles is to play on the passthrough display, not the preview in app.
I was just thinking because I have the capture card connected to my HDMI (output) port on my monitor and then PC feed is on Display port on the monitor and when I switch sources OBS crashes.
Yeah so, if you’re playing the game while viewing the passthrough hdmi, then you’ve already go the lowest video latency possible with that capture card.
If you can listen to the audio from that hdmi on the display as well that will be the lowest audio latency.
Only way to see the pc without switching display inputs is to get a second display.
If you have audio out of sync it must be that you’re viewing the passthrough but listening to the audio after the conversion and capture app.
The audio comes from the capture card to Wave SW
My viewers say that gets out of sync and then also starts to crackles as well
Crackling could be buffer errors, and if it’s not in sync you need to set the audio sync offset for that source in OBS to compensate for the latency of processing.
Record this video through your setup and then zoom in on the frames to measure the sync offset needed
Works perfect on win 10 now, thanks :)

That’s a great outcome!
Whats the best way to send audio (dual PC) with 4K Pro if I understood it correctly only video is sended via HDMI IN & not using cloning mode (OBS project to capture card)
Which one is recommended for flawless solution cloning vs projecting vs passthrough
Hdmi carry’s audio; who told you it didn’t?!
If you have wave link or some other kind of mixer, route game audio to the capture card and it will come across for any method.
If you don’t have an audio mixer:
If OBS full screen projector, have OBS capture the audio as well and monitor that audio source. Set monitor device to be the capture card.
If cloning, go to mmsys.cpl and in properties of your main audio output, set “listen to this device on” to the capture card.
Passthrough isn’t needed for dual pc since you’re already watching on the main display that is being cloned or projected.
I mean, you could use passthrough… and it would automatically get the audio if your main audio was routed to the display…
But there isn’t really a need to do that and the drawback is your second pc needs to be turned on in order to see your display when it’s run through the passthrough.
Using these other methods generally gives you more control of your audio, as well.
Just check the message I posted a couple hours ago, here #capture-cards message
to measure and compensate for your audio offset, whichever config you end up with.
Cheers for your answers
I don't know if this complicate but I do not use 3.5MM
Bluetooth wireless headset
I do not have a mixer
I'll get back with result once I got my card
Force update to latest firmware, "display vs internal" EDID does it matter?
Yeah I think the edid shouldn’t matter at all unless you’re using passthrough, which is really for consoles.
Since you’re using a wireless headset. Either the OBS capture audio and monitor to capture card, or the listen to this device method will be best.
Be sure to measure that audio offset. It will vary depending on the setup.

I just got a brand new capture card, and Windows is telling me that it cannot recognize it when I plug it in?
HD60 X
SOMEHOW, it was the cable. It was the CABLE that ELGATO included which made it not function...
HOW, I have no idea.
Tried a USB-C from Walmart, worked instantly.
Nevermind. It was the port.
Somehow all the ports on the back of my PC don't work, but plug it into the port of my case, everything's hunky-dory.
You might check usb selective suspend is off and fast boot is off; those can mess up usb performance putting them in the wrong mode.
Or just consult your motherboard manual for more detailed info about the ports
How would I go about checking that? I've never heard of those commands. Are they Windows specific, or for elgato itself?
To adjust USB suspend settings in Windows 11, navigate to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > USB, then toggle the "USB battery saver" switch to "Off". This prevents USB devices from suspending to save battery power when the screen is off. Alternatively, you can manage USB Selective Suspend via Device Manager under "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
Can't seem to find it. Screen only shows that.
Hi, I have a question.
To hear game audio without latency and have OBS Studio capture my video while recording, can I plug my headset with a built-in microphone into the TV, or directly into the Elgato HD60 X, or do I have to buy a headset without a microphone, then buy the Chat Link Pro and connect it to the TV or the Elgato HD60 X, and then buy a separate microphone to plug into my PC?
Please reply and mention me.
Because my setup is special
I composed a screenshot later. I’m still kind of asleep.
Very similar to my early stream years
Awe! It’s cute!!
Lol
But can I have an answer please ?
For no latency in audio, you want to use a wired headset connected to the console audio port (controller) and use a chat link pro cable to split that signal you hear back to the capture card.
This captures exactly what you hear in your headset.
Then if you want your voice in the recording/stream, you add a second mic connected to the pc.
The same thing yesterday right 🤣
There are not another thing
Oh I see you’ve already asked about this
Yes, the answer doesn’t change.
Why are you asking again?
Because, my first question is not the same of the second question but the same answer for both
As usual, man, you're saving my life

I have searched all over the internet with my issue and no luck as of yet so I have come here.
I have my PS5 connected to the 4k60 Pro MK2 and using OBS. I am getting an latency issue with my sim wheel which is causing me issues. I cannot find a fix for this to have it act normally as if my tv is connected directly to my PS5. Is there a fix for this and thank you for assistance in advance.
Capture cards sometimes prevent TV's from seeing a console is connected and switching to game mode. Try putting the TV into game or low latency mode manually
I had done that and still the same issue.
And you're playing using passthrough, the HDMI port on the card right?
Not through captured/preview video?
I believe so. PS5 to the card input and the out of the card to the TV.
The delay you generally get with the capture card connected is either latency modes on the TV, or video decoding delay when you try to view it on the computer because of the time it takes to convert the HDMI signal to something you can use. There should be no video delay (and this no feeling of delayed input) on the HDMI out port connected direct to a TV, if the TV is in gaming mode 😐
That signal doesn't get touchd by the card's image processing
You've double checked that there's no delay with a direct connection withou the card in place?
Yes. I normally race without the PC to stream with but I wanted to stream and upcoming race I have but the wheel latency is so bad I can't even drive properly.
Do you have another display you can test with such as a PC monitor to see if the TV is not correctly going to game mode when you set it manually?
Not easily. I do have a setup change coming in the next few months to where I will be using monitors instead of a TV.
In the menu for the TV there is a game optimizer and it will show low latency for the PS5 but when I connect it to the capture car, that low latency turns off and I can't turn it on. Would that cause the issue?
Definitely game mode, at least the low latency part.
TVs that do image processing need to turn those features off to remove the latency those features cause.
You should be able to force game mode/low latency somehow.
I was able to find a sub-menu in my TV that allowed me to do that. That has seemed to fix it. Thank you for your help and @past basin for your help also.
Ah glad you were able to sort it out!
Can you explain to me why after cloning I have the same resolution as the monitor has 1440p?
active resolution is 4k
Hi friends.
I've been grappling with this issue for a bit now, and it's finally gotten to me, so figured I'd ask for some help.
I'm running 2 PC setup with the 4K X capture card, and while I have no issues on my game PC, I've been getting a lot of screen tearing in recordings (both on OBS and Game Capture Utility).
On my game PC:
- I have my 4K X set as a mirrored display to 60Hz
- I have my game set to 60 framerate cap
- My main display also set to 60Hz
- Nvidia Control Panel limiting my global frames to 60fps
On my recording PC:
- I have OBS's video output set to 60
- The source for my capture card also set to receive 60
Not understanding the question.
I see a picture of both resolutions; what is the issue? Could you restate?
Hmmmm OBS canvas frame rate?
Does OBS logs analysis show anything weird?
Try capture utility instead of obs.
For science
Capture Utility has screen tearing as well 😦
Uh oh.
I feel like the answer must be that something isn’t as synced as it’s claiming to be.
Or something weird like the capture card usb is messing up and it’s using mjpeg or something. Weird things happen with usb sometimes.
Is it a usb card?… yes ok.
Thinking of getting a 4k X capture card for when the Switch 2 comes out. Looking to stream at 1080p 60 (something I'm already doing with my current HD60S+) I'd like to also be able to record as high quality as possible, but that's not a priority for me.
Will my current PC specs work with the 4K X?
What if you swap the display cables to basically flip which signal is to the primary monitor and which is to the capture card?
Just trying to do something to get info about where the problem is coming from.
The 4k x is not needed unless you want to be operating above 1080p60
I'm worried about passthough. I am looking for 4k 120 passthrough.... And HDR
But happy to capture/stream at 1080p 60
The physical cables are both identical, if that's what you mean, and both HDMI 2.1
Yeah so try swapping what they are connected to. Primary monitor is now a capture card and capture card is now the display… so then see if the tearing goes away or moves or something.
Oh yeah then sure.
And if your computer can capture and encode 1080p60 now then there will be no difference when it’s doing so with a newer capture card.
Yup! If you’re not going up to a higher resolution or frame rate the encoding load is the same so it should perform the same.
Great! Now... To find one at a good price...
after setting it automatically shows this resolution on my elgato and I have a 1440p monitor, why is it like that?
Probably because your card isn’t capable of capturing 1440p.
Which capture card is it? (Elgato is a brand who make many products)
HD60x
Ok that can do 1440p60
Are you sending higher than 60fps, or…. HDR,.. or stuff like that?
Or am I misunderstanding: is it not working right?
It’s offering to capture at either of these resolutions? So choose 1440p and you’re good. Is that right?
Maybe I jumped into assuming there was a problem when really you just asked a question.
iirc it's a Display Scaling feature in Windows. Just set it manually and it should be fine. You can also try adjustng the EDID on the captue card as the setup might not be passing through the right dipslay lists to the GPU - go into 4K Capture Utility on the streaming box, and in settings under display try setting EDID Input Mode to Display, then reboot both PCs to force everything to resync. Occasionally a monitor has modes that don't work correctly with merged mode
Hey all! I'm currently trying to setup the HD60x to do a dual PC streaming setup.
4k capture utility on my Stream PC shows my Gaming PC's screen, but when I try to add a video capture device source in OBS, it just shows up as a black screen and seems like OBS can't detect it. Any idea on how to fix this?
I'm having some issues with my Elgato HD60 X.
I'm receiving very slight delays (Both visuals and audio) when using it to capture footage from my Switch. Anyone know what I might check to investigate that?
I checked it against the switch docked VS undocked, it lags by about a quarter of a second.
Lemme ask you what fixed my problem. Is your capture card plugged into a USB 3.0 port?
Because if not, Windows will not recognise it, and it won't function.
Apparently the issue is I can't have 4k capture utility on OBS on at the same time... I feel so stupid..
USB capture cards can’t be feeding more than one app at a time.
Use virtual camera in whichever app to multiply it to the other apps you need it in.
Delay on the capture is normal on the preview. There is some processing time for the capture card and the computer also has some process time to render and encode.
You’re not expected to play using the preview; connect a display to the passthrough output from the capture card for a near real time display to play games on while the computer captures.
the setup would go like this: HD60X - IN connects to the Gaming PC/Console, OUT connects to the Gaming Monitor/TV for passthrough USB-C connects to the HD60X, and the USB-A end connects to the Streaming/Recording PC USB 3.0 port. The Chat-Link Pro long end connects to the HD60X the Y ends connect to the controller, and the aux end connects to the headset- this is for party chat, this doesn't capture your in game mic make sure the isolator is on. An External Mic needs to be connected to your Streaming/Recording PC. In your Streaming/Recording PC 4K Capture Utility if Windows, or Capture Device Utility on Mac needs to be in analog mode for the capture card. In OBS, you would create a video source for your capture card, and the audio should be automatically created with it. If you are having audio sync issues, mut the video source, and create a separate audio input with your capture card, and that should fix it, or set an offset for sync. create another audio input for your external mic, and you should be good to go.
Wait a minute, you come back
I was sick yesterday...
Okay
I hope this answers your questions on the setup
might want to screen shot this so you have the info.
But I had a question, Xbox Series X can put Xbox group sound because it goes through HDMI so if I connect my headset to my Xbox controller and I create a group with just me, will OBS Studio pick up my voice or not?
Yes
give me a min it's going to be a little bit of info. I'll complie it for you.
checking one more thing on my PS5, & Xbox almost done
Of course
And I have not PS5 @warped ledge just a Xbox Series X, a Asus Vivobook 17 PC and later a better PC and a Nintendo Switch and later the Nintendo Switch 2
I'm getting a Switch 2 as well, but I have a feeling it'll mimic the Switch setup
Yes I think, but the GameChat as a chance to change something
possibly, we wont know until we have one.
Xbox & PlayStation can do party chat over HDMI - if you don't want to use Chat-Link Pro & Analog Mode (Personally I use Discord on Streaming/Recording PC for anything Voice Chat. Easier that way, as I never use Game Party Chat audio)
XBOX
1.) Go to Settings: From the Xbox home screen, navigate to "Settings".
2.) Volume & Audio Output: Select "General" and then "Volume & audio output".
3.) Additional Options: Go to "Additional options".
4.) Party Chat Output: Choose your desired output: "Headset & Speakers" for both, or "Speakers" for TV/monitor only.
PS5
1.) Go to Settings: Navigate to the PlayStation 5 home screen and select "Settings."
2.) Select Sound: From the settings menu, choose "Sound."
3.) Audio Output: Select "Audio Output."
4.) HDMI Device: Choose "HDMI Device" as your output device.
5.) HDMI Device Type: Select "AV amplifier" for the HDMI device type.
6.) Number of Channels: Choose "5.1 ch" under "Number of Channels."
7.) Audio Format: Set your audio format to "Dolby".
I hope this helps
And these allow OBS Studio to pick up my voice if I speak?
Yes and no
no you need an External Mic for your own voice connected to the Streaming/Recording PC. That part doesn't change
Oh I would have thought that if I create an Xbox group with just me it would work
No
your friends can hear you, but your stream/recording wont.
the audio routing on consoles aren't desinged that way. that's entirely up to them to enable that, they don't.
that's all I got for you, but happy streaming/recording.
So it's impossible even with the settings you gave me that OBS Studio hears my voice if I create an Xbox group with just me
correct, you need a mic connected directly to the pc for that.
Yes, you are a hero
PCIE cards cards like the 4K Pro, and 4K60 MK.2 can do this, but not external cards.
change it to duplicate/clone vs mirror, and make sure you're duplicating your gaming screen. change the EDID to Display.
I get this screen in the 4k capture utility. But the card works perfectly in OBS. I have updated it and just unplugged and plugged everything back in.
Are the apps on at the same time? Most of the capture cards can’t send to more than one app so only the first one will get the feed.
nope, now just black
what capture card do you have?
1920x1080p gaming monitor and elgato 4k60 pcie in stream pc - Won't go to 1080p240hz only shows 1920x1200
dual pc setup?
yes
4k60 in stream pc - connected to gpu in gaming pc
My gaming pc crashed and reset all my display settings (odd)
I fixed it. Here is a summary of the issue and how I fixed it for anyone needing it in the future.
4k60 PCIE Capture card doesn't get sensed at 1080x240hz
Open Elgato 4k Capture Utility on the Stream PC, Reset defaults first.
HDMI Color Range: Bypass (Same as input)
Input EDID Mode: Internal
EDID (Internal): 1080p
Reset stream pc.
Nvidia control panel or windows display settings and lock it to 1080x240hz on your gaming pc, then clone/merged the displays together.
Glad you were able to fix it
Hello,
I recently bought an Elgato HD60X to capture my PlayStation gameplay on my PC for streaming with OBS. However, I’m having some trouble setting up the audio.
I want to capture my voice (using my USB microphone connected to the PS5), the party chat, and the game audio all together in OBS. I use a headset as my headphones to listen to everything normally.
My goal is to keep using my microphone as usual, have all the audio (mic, party chat, and game sound) heard in the stream, and still be able to hear everything through my headset.
I’m hoping someone can help me with the setup.
Can’t be done with just what you have; You need a couple more things.
First, you didn’t say if you’re using a wired headset, but you will need to be.
You need a chat link pro cable, which will split the analog audio from your controller to send a copy of what you hear to the analog port on the capture card.
This will capture exactly what you hear without interrupting your voice sending back to game chat.
Then you’ll need a second mic connected to the pc in order to capture your voice for the stream.
I have a wired headset, is there no other option, as I would like to keep my microphone so that I can talk in the party at the same time as my voice can be heard in the stream
You can’t use the same mic for both systems. You can still talk at the same time, but your pc won’t hear the console mic because that audio is not included in what you hear, which is all the capture card can include. And only with that cable, does it include game voice chat from your party.
Need a mic on the pc as well
Hey all, i need some help
i recently upgraded my monitor to 1440p and around the same time the PS5 had an update (not sure if either of these are the problem) and now my Elgato Game Capture Neo (4k Passthrough, 1080p capture) show no signal when connected to the PS5. HDCP is still turned off in my settings, i have switched the PS5 to only display 1080p in the system settings and it still says no signal. i factory reset the PS5 thinking it was a setting i accidently chanced. I've messed with Every setting in Streamlabs and OBS I would also add that I've hooked up a Nintendo switch to it and it works with no issues (using the same HDMI cord)
Also want to add That i have used the capture card many times with my PS5. it was working flawlessly until recently.
Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance!
IN is connected to the Console, and OUT to the TV/Gaming Monitor?
Hey does anyone know how to fix this
im having this issue with the audio and it seems to be static or buggy
i had bought an aux cord and im still seeing the same result
So I've just returned my 4K60 Pro due to it not working with my PC (for an unknown reason), so I was looking to try a 4K external capture card instead to see how that does. I was looking at system requirements for the Elgato Game Capture 4K X and I noticed it says "USB: 3.2 Gen 2 port (USB 3.2 Gen 1 works with reduced capture resolution)". I'm looking to record Switch 2 footage at 4K 60fps.
Firstly, I know nothing about USBs, all I know is that I have 2 USB 3.0 on the front of my PC and a USB C on the back, the rest are 2.0. Are these likely to be compatible with the resolution I require (I'd imagine not) and how much of a reduction would I be looking at?
Secondly, if I was looking into getting compatible hardware with a 3.2 Gen 2 port (like an extra USB tray for the back), does anyone have any (affordable) suggestions that they have managed to get to work with the 4K X?
This is some digital error, could be audio operating in the wrong mode, or some other thing in the source device going wrong. Without more info about the setup I can’t be more specific than that.
You really do need the full 3.2 gen 2 speed to get the full resolution… and if the pcie card didn’t work for you (without any more detail on that)…. It could have been that the pcie slot didn’t have enough lanes, which could mean a pcie usb card also wouldn’t.
You need to consult your motherboard manual to figure out which slots have enough lanes. Sometimes lanes overlap with M.2 storage slots and the main pcie slot for the GPU.
Well the thing I found is that the 3.2 gen 2 ports don't plug into the same PCI-e slot I used for the 4K60 Pro (for more details, check my previous messages in this channel). Or at least this one doesn't, I'm not 100% what this port is though and the manual isn't very helpful since I don't know the names of the ports (I'll post the pic so you can have a look though). It's a pretty dated PC but I'm not in the position to buy a new one, so I'm just trying to get 4K 60fps recording with what I have (it's not like it can't handle it).
Hi I am trying the new beta with virtual buttons but on Mac it seems to stop all my connections to devices working
I think you might want #stream-deck but I could be wrong!
i had just got this capture card and at first it was making this bad humming noise but once i got this aux cord it got a "little better" its still static
i mean the only thing i could think is something with the hdmi
like i have the hdmi on my ps5 as a 4k hdmi cable while the other one is just some basic hdmi that isnt 4k
is that a possibility with the audio error or is it still something else?
What specific capture card are you using, and do you know what motherboard you have, or what USB controller is in your computer?
This sounds like the audio issues that sometimes come up with specific ASMedia USB chips - known to mess with 4K X's audio, and some other things like Creative USB Soundcards.
I just played on my phone but didn’t hear a humming. Sounded like stuttering kind of thing to me.
If there is a hum that could be a ground loop, usually only comes up if you have more than one connection between two devices, though.
staticy crackle, yeah. That's also a know issue with 4K X and ASMedia 3.1 10 Gbps USB controllers (which are also used on some AMD setups like B450). Only the 10 Gbps versions though - if it comes up you can verify by testing it in a 5 Gbps port.
I've been trying to catch anther user with it lately because it seems it doesn't just get Elgato stuff, but hits some third party audio gear too. Looking into it, forcing Windows Device Manager to update the USB driver beyond what's included by Microsoft automatically resovles it for some of the USB sound cards out there - may resolve it for 4K X too, but I don't have one to test and haven't been able to get anyone I've found with the issue latey to confirm 😦
Other than that I'd have guessed sample rate or AI processing issues based on what I was hearing
Why is why I'm hoping they can clear up what card
Yikes.
im pretty sure its a amd ryzen 7 something
or im not sure im not techy with pc's
but its a prebuilt from costco that i've had since 2018
What's the capture card you have though? 4K X? HD60 X? 4K60 Pro Mk2? etc
And if you run USB Tree Viewer from https://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtreeview_e.html it should show you the USB devices on the left. What does the capture card connect to for a controller (the controllers will be the ones with green icons)
its the 4k one i beleive
ultra hd
eg, mind is the Intel USB 3.20 eXtensible Host Controller here
the usb is a 3.5
USB 3.5 isn't a valid spec. Also I need to know the specific controller, not just a number
Eg Intel, ASMedia, AMD B450, etc
Yeah, I've seen a warning on /r/audioengineering by someone to avoid ASMedia - apparently they're prone to audio issues with their USB drivers. To date I'm only aware of it affecting their 10 Gbps USB 3.1 Gen 2 models though.
oh mbb
i meant 3.0
idk why i said 3.5
Did you try the USB tree viewer in the link earlier there?
yeah i had just downloaded it
i got the zip file
ok what do i do now?
i opened this application
When you find your capture card on the left side, what USB controller (Green icon) is it listed under? You can send a screenshot if that's easier
its a 3.10
Okay, there's one thing we can try here. If you right click on that, AMD controller, and select Device Properties, it should bring up the settings page. Press the Change Settings button at the bottom of it, then go to the driver tab and try Update Driver, and let it look automatically. If it's a USB audio hiccup switching out that (microsoft) driver for different version of it may help the audio, if one is available.
it says i already have the best drivers
do i just search for updated drivers on windows update?
yes, unless you can find updated one's on HP's site for your laptop
yeah the cracking sound is still there
What app are you using it with? Do you still get the crackle in other apps like OBS (or 4K Capture Utility)?
i used streamlabs and obs and i get the same outcome
ok so i figured out something, nothing crazy but the aux cord i got disables the humming sound but it increases this cracking noise
when i plug out the aux cord i get the humming sound and the cracking
It looks like stock is disappearing for the Cam Link Pro...It's an "old" product and probably due for a refresh. Does a declining stock indicate a new product to replace the Cam Link Pro?
What sort of quality would I get from the 4K X with a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port?
this shows what's passthrough and recording https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/23479175821069-Elgato-Game-Capture-4K-X-Supported-Resolutions-and-Frame-Rates
No, some products become legacy
So it should be fine as long as I record as a MJPG 🤔
can you list your setup, and maybe there is interfeance, but I'm curious about a few things causing crackles...
They mentioned the reason for that on stream a couple times actually - the chipset they use to make Cam Link Pro has been discontinued, so essentially they just can't get the parts to keep making it.
Ah, thank you for that info. How interesting!
can the CamLink 4k be set to 1080p somehow? As soon as I connect my Camera to HDMI it changes the settings to 4k 30p on me. Then I lose the ability to adjust CamLink settings on my PC such as using Portrait Mode.
what are you using for changing the settings?
So its my camera settings that change automatically from 1080p to 4k as soon as I connect it to my Camlink.
As for settings in my PC, its some icon in my toolbar that opens up options when I open OBS.
does it let you set a custom setting in the devoce menu?
on my camera, no. as soon as I connect HDMI the options to change settings are greyed out.
can you post a screen shot, also have you tried the Elgato Studio Beta yet?
curious.... maybe something there might allow this
I have not. Had not heard of it honestly.
Picture of what exactly?
of the settings being greyed out
Hm… I meant in the software on your pc
First pic is camera off/not connected to HDMI. No picture clearly.
Second pic is camera on and connected(always have to toggle on then off 'Use Preset' in Properties to get the image to show.
But when I do that and my camera now shows in OBS, the options in the panel up top are greyed out.
You’re using Mac OS?
Yep. New Mac Mini M4 updated with latest OS.
Personally, I’ve been struggling with macOS as well when it comes to specific camera settings as far as getting maybe 4K 60 or even 10 8060 it seems to drop down to 30. I don’t know if this is a Mac issue, but can you show me if it lets you choose a specific camera options in properties?
4k 60p actually works for me but files sizes got to be too large for my editor and for my talking head videos, the quality difference wasn't worth the 10x in file size.
1920x1080 for both
Can you do a test recording and see if the recording comes out as 1080 P please
Sure. I’ll be back at my desk in a bit and can do that.
Ok, I’ll be put until 4:30pm cst. I have a couple of appointments, so I’ll be away for a bit.
Camera set to 4k 30p(can't change it.
Properties in OBS set to 'Use Preset' 3840x2160
Settings in OBS for recording in 1920x1080p
Recording was done in 1080p
The 1080p file can your editor work with that?
Yep. But I can’t use portrait mode for some reason as shown above since it’s greyed out.
Is that a camera feature?
Is like an effect, or you mean vertical?
I’m not sure. When I open OBS and connect my camera that option pops up on the top toolbar. But it becomes greyed out as soon as I check off ‘Use Preset’ so my camera shows.
It blurs the background really well.
have you thought about using that effect with camera hub, or nvidia broadcast
Recording with camera hub instead of obs?
no the effects for the blur
do you have an nvidia gpu?
Nope. Mac mini
I don't think camlink works with camerahub, does it @past basin ?
oh that's right, sorry it's been a busy day. there is a blur effect automatically on the camera, via OBS.
it's protrait, but you have to make sure it's not greyed out. it does it often for me, but once I'm in another application then I can tab over to the one I want, and it works after.
it's weird like that via Mac
Yep it’s the portrait function I’m trying to use but it gets greyed out
As seen in the pics
use another app that requires a cam, and tab over to the obs app in the camera setting menu and then do it. that's what worked for me.
sometimes it doesn't like working when it's in use in the foreground app.
Mac is a bit sensitive like that
Hmm ok I’ll try that
someone who's a dev. told me that basically put the ios version on mac for this, and it's just going to be odd until Apple makes it better.
so weird, that worked...
thank you! that saved me so much frustration and headaches.
no worries, Mac OS is an odd one. You're Welcome!
Is it possible to get 4K pro in proper 1080P/1440P without black bars?
I'm using project via OBS from 32:9
I don't understand why I get blackbars when I have force 1080P/1440P from nvidia control panel
I can confirm from 4K capture utility that it recognize the output I have chosen
But when I add the capture card I get blackbar..
You're trying to project 32:9 onto a 16:9 res output - your OBS Projector is going to toss up black bars on that if you're doing fullscreen projection
And there is noway I can get rid of it?
You could setup to project in 16:9 insted - if your aspect ratio on your srouce doesn't match you'ore going to have issues
I'll send you D.M with attatchments
Hey, anyone can help me here about my brand new Elgato HD 60 X capture card? I have so many issues its kinda unseless… Blue screens, image readjusting issues, slow alt + tab’s, freezes, almost everything and I didnt mentioned audio… I would like to use it for a dual pc streaming setup but cant find any solution. 😦 Trying to fix it since a day..
I can forward attachments, videos in DM.
If you're trying to use this with a dual PC setup, the alt tabbing issue sounds like you're trying to use fullscreen, not borderless windowed. The readusting happens with fullscreen because even if you set the options the same Windows hands off more display options to the game to handle display which triggers a display mode change and refresh, which means the card has to resync to the new signal and timing. This is much less likely to happen with Borderless Windowed gameplay.
Something like this, exactly. So that means I dont have any solution for it?
I'd test your games in borderless Windowed. Unless they're legacy games there shouldn't be any performance changes (DX12 fixed the differences between windowed and exclusive fullscreen, unless you've turned off optimizations)
My HD60x I use my macbook and windows it works but the refresh rate wont change bc it says im using 4k when im not i cant seem to change it
Refresh rate is set by the device being streamed generally. 4K Capture Utility has restrictions on the frames per second when recording though as it doesn't support high FPS yet - you can use a third party app for that.
There may be some restrictions on refresh rate the source device can use based on : EDID settings, the HDMI spec, what resolution you're at, and if anything is in the HDMI out port of the card though (generally it won't go over the supported settings for any display in the output unless you override some settings, since that'll result in that display getting a signal that won't work)
Anyone know why my recording PC's OBS is just showing a black screen now? It was working fine earlier and now it's not with the USB plugged into the recording PC and hdmi in is plugged into the source of video.
It's an Elgato HD6OX for me to capture my gaming PC gameplay.
Did you do the latest update?
I didn't need to, I simply set the properties to game capture and back to Elgato HD60X and it fixed it idk why it did that but it did.
Microsoft? Normally a then problem
i need help my 4K Capture Utility just shows a black screen
What are you trying to capture, which mode of capture card are you using, and what sort of computer? If it's just giving a black screen, the usual cause is HDCP is enabled on whatever you're trying to capture. It can also be because privacy settings are blocking access to cameras which include the capture card, or because another app somewhere is already trying to use your card.
I’m using an Xbox Series X
And the capture card model and computer details? At the very least need to know the capture card and some basics about the PC.
Like Win 10 or Win 11
How to make Elgato HD60 OG work with my iPad 10 generation since they are both usb 2.0 ?
Please answer yes or no ?
You need to adapt the output of the iPad to HDMI.
All capture cards have hdmi input.
How would I do that buddy jntracks
usb-c to hdmi adapter.
I use 4K pro my monitors are 2k at 144hz and GPU is 2080 Super
I have Windows 11
Do you have any idea how I can fix this because the game sound also sounds choppy
Can't play this file in place; you should remux to mp4 container and upload if you want us to hear it.
But "choppy" makes me ask... are you recording a playstation?
HD60 is not a UVC card, it is not compatible with you iPad. See https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/20046513904781-Elgato-Capture-App-Compatible-Devices for compatible devices.
All Elgato cards with UVC support require at least USB 3.0.
No, I stream via the PC, or rather I set everything in Obs so that you can hear the sound from the Ps5 smoothly
Ok arcsane
So.. yes, you are recording a playstation 5.
Ah yeah, I can hear your voice is fine on the mic connected to the recording computer, but the audio from the console is messed up. I think this is a known issue with some of the capture cards.
I think this just came up a few days ago, and I can't remember the details, if there's a fix.
I have a Elgato HD60X , if there's a fix, But is there a way to make it run smoothly?
If I’m building a new pc and want my stream deck to stay the same how do I do that? I backed it up but I’m fresh installing windows on a new drive so the root of a lot of the files will change
Are you using OBS? Try 4k capture utility to see if that sounds right. I'm just a little out of my expertise in this and reading what the current state of things seems to be on reddit.
This is a #stream-deck question, but it's just a matter of installing all the same plugins and icons and the restoring your profile backups. All the info is stored on the computer, not the stream deck
ok so my capture card shows up in OBS but not on 4k utility
okay my friend I'll take a quick look
Are you trying to open them at the same time? Which capture card?
4K Pro yeah I just want it open in 4K utility but it was able to do both before
Oops I must’ve clicked the wrong chat haha thank you
Ok the pcie capture cards should be able to do multi-app support. With a minimum driver version.
If it worked before it should work now. Basic troubleshooting?
I think so do i update the driver
So in the 4K Capture Utility App it sounds even worse but yes i using OBS
worse... well that's my only move right now. Some reports said the problem didn't exist for some users in capture utility. it's kind of old info so... Maybe @past basin has an update but I'm out of knowledge on this one.
I'm picking up my Nintendo switch 2 In a few days and I kind of want to get a 4K capture card. P. C. I. E. But I'm hearing from people That, it doesn't work well with discord screen share ?
Sounds like the Playstation is either set to the wrong audio format, or there's interference PC side.
First check on the PS5 in the audio settings and make sure it's set to Linear PCM for the format at the bottom - formats like Dolby Digital can stutter like that as the card doesn't support them. While in there you should also check that it's set to 2 channel audio to be safe - that may require setting it to AV Receiver.
Next potential issue is audio running through Windows Audio Enchancements. You can check if enhancements are on by going into Windows Settings and checking under System > Sound and find your capture card. Go into it, and check at the bottom for any mention of audio enhancements or spatial audio (usually towards the bottom) and turn them off.
If neither are there, check the old Windows Sound Settings instead. Press Windows Key + R, type mmsys.cpl in the box that comes up and press OK. Go to the recording tab, find the capture card then go to properties. Check for any enhancement or spatial audio tabs and disable anything in there, and check the advanced tab to see if there's any enhancements or spatial audio options to turn off there as well.
Based on your audio hardware, software and Windows version and updates, enhancements could be in either of these locations, both or none. If they're not in any of them, you can assume enhancements are off
I think it's more that discord screen share seems to get broken every other update than anything with the card. As far as I know it's working in the current release but it broke for a lot of people when they did the update with the new UI.
Hmm should I stick with my old capture card?
Because that’s what I currently have to screen share I have the old version of the PCI
@past basin
Which old PCIe? HD60 Pro, 4K60 Pro, or 4K60 Pro Mk2?
But it will depent at least partly on what you want to do, eg what resolutoin
4K60 Pro Mk2 will do almost everything Switch 2 will support - but the team hasn't had their hands on a Switch 2 yet to do final checks and confirm which cards will be compatible, so we can only go by spec sheets at the moment
The og 4K60 Pro won't have HDR or VRR support (though apparently the Switch 2 won't do VRR when docked now anyway, that was an error on their spec sheet), but otherwise will hit up to 4K60 video too.
Okay, if it's black screen in 4K Capture Utility, on Windows 11, first thing to check is if you're getting signal at all - in the top right of the app do you get a Source resolution, something like 1080p60 or the like? That card is a Multi-app card so usual cause of app conflicts won't come up unless you don't have enough PCIe lanes for the requirements (in which case other weirdness will happen too)
Also go you get signal on the monitor hooked to the HDMI out of the capture card or is that black too?
If you do get video on the monitor try using 4K Capture Utlity and under settings in the device section try setting EDID input mode to internal and rebooting the console.
hello. is anyone having this issue with xbox seris x & elgato studio? i'm using the 4k pro
it's running fine except the obvious
shows up the same way in OBS
I would need something to compare it to in order to know what’s wrong with this. (Not obvious to me without example)
If it’s the same in both apps, then the issue is before the computer…
Console, cable, capture card…
Hook directly to a tv, and one by one replace or isolate things in the path to find what’s going wrong.
Tv is what it’s supposed to be capturing.
Whoah so it’s just the blue channel and duplicated 4 times?! Haha!
Not seen that one before. And this is the passthrough I assume? So the capture card is getting the right signal if it’s able to pass the image through.
Umm I have no idea. EDID setting reset to default? Console reset to default… change resolution and frame rate… VRR HDR?
i have not changed anything. my ps5 works perfect as i was playing that first before switching to my xbox.
I've been troubleshooting for over a month now with Elgato on this 4kpro. they sent me a brand new one because the thought the one i bought was a dud. but ive been through multiple software versions & drivers & this is the first time it actually worked besides the issue now.
If one console works while the other doesn’t, I think that points to some setting in the console. Or it having a broken output…. Except for the passthrough making it to the tv just fine.
Way over my head.
thanks, i'll keep tinkering. if anything changes i'll let yall know
Just setting up the elgato x 4k and this is what happens after a few seconds. Some times I can get it to work no problems without changing anything. Is this a damaged device? Or could this be settings?
I know Vic ran into this a while back with a PS5. She reflashed both firmware manually (Base and MCU), and then had some luck changing the Video Transfer rate on the PS5. The Xbox equivalent would be disabling Allow YCC 4:2:2 in the Xbox Video Modes menu.
Though she also had the EDID input mode to Display as well (in 4K Capture Utility under settings in the device section). We were not sure if that was required or not
This can happen if the VRR setting on whatever you're trying to capture is out of scope for what the card supports. You can try turning off VRR/G-Sync/Freesync and see if anything improved. I've also seen it from a damaged HDMI cable
Ok tysm! I’ll try that. And I’m going to go ahead and switch my cable as well just in case
Thanks I’ll try to mess with it later. I’m using Elgato Studio so there are no options in the way of settings
Expand the side panel in Studio, you'll find EDID options there
Thanks, I’ll try that
hey everyone
i just set up my elgato 4k x with my ps5 and pc and im getting no audio. im using the 4k capture thing and i can see my ps5 but i cant hear anything. i just wanna play my ps5 at my desk so i can stream my games to my friends on discord. nothing on reddit was helpful so im hoping there is a wizard in here who can help me
Are you using OBS?
i changed it from display to merged & still no change
Did you disable YCC 422 on the Xbox too? And reflash the firmware?
ycc is disabled. i don't know how to reflash tho
In the top right pull down the dropdown that shows the card, hold CTRL and click device properties. Hold CTRL again when you click update firmware.
There's 2 firmware files for 4K Pro - BASE and MCU iirc, you'll find them in the installation director for Elgato Studio or 4K Capture Utility (Studio is somewhere under c:\Program Files\WindowsApps ) in the firmware folder.
This assumes there isn't already an automatic update available
If it tells you there's an update just let it run that automatically
when i hold ctl over the device it says, "device not found"
You only need to hold CTRL when clicking the Device Properties button there, not the device itself
Yeah I think that's a bug, restart the app
There's a reason Studio is still in beta
That reminds me I should repor that. brb
Don't forget to do both the Base and the MCU firmware
Yes, one at a time. I'd probably start with the Base
is it supposed to give me a prompt or indicator? i did base, selected the file & pressed OPEN & nothing is happening
Anybody having issues with their Cam Link Pro's?
Got this error on OBS.
I can see all camera feeds when power up the Elgato 4K Capture Utility app. But in OBS I can only get one camera to display at a time.
Tell us more!
Do you have headphones connected? What audio mode setting is the capture card set to?
Does the console have audio set to stereo linear pcm?
hello! im trying to connect my ps4 to my pc and everything works fine except the audio
i have a hd60 pro btw
i noticed my 4k capture card came with an extra input / output plate and I dont know why. whats it for
ive been trying to tinker with the audio for a while and capture utility isnt even picking it up, im stumped
my capture card keeps going black on my recording and losing audio
for a few seconds
but i can still see my game when im playing
how do i fix this
HD 60X
Which card is it? Some of them come with a low profile backplate you can switch on to install in smaller form cases
Do you have a headset connected to the PS4? Even a usb dongle for a wireless one would do it. PS4 and 5 do one audio stream per user so if a headset is connected the HDMI audio gets muted (hence why things like Chat Link Pro exist to split the headset audio).
If not make sure the console audio is set to linear PCM before you spend too much time on the PC side.
Check that windows didn't mute the audio either - in Windows sound settings find the card and make sure it's turned up. Also check those settings to see if Windows audio enhancements are enabled - if so, turn them off
What are you trying to record with it? My first guess is whatever it is has VRR enabled and runs a VRR mode beyond what HD60X supports. That would cause it to basically desync every time it goes out of scope.
A wii
what capture card?
is passthrough working?
What like just to the monitor I play on you mean?
If you mean that, then yea
It goes to both my recording software and monitor
But like randomly it goes black for about 3 seconds and the audio also cuts out on my recording/streaming software, but the image still plays on my monitor when im playing
It can do it 5 times in 10 minutes or once an hour
It’s pretty random and annoying
Does this happen during a cut scene or no?
No
I’m wondering if the cables are connected securely double check your wiring
Ive tried replugging stuff and trying different usb ports and all that
What I’m saying is take your time with it. Make sure they’re completely secure.
The next thing is the usb tree thing. @past basin can guide on that piece
Also is USB suspend off/disabled
Are both the monitor and the recording app going black or just one of them? If it's boht, have you tried with direct connection to the monitor to make sure it's not whatever adapter you're using to get HDMI out of a wii to work that's blacking out?
@past basin @warped ledge i fixed it... my ps4 was muted LMAO
Glad to hear it!!!
Just the recording app, and I am using an HDMI modded wii
So there is no adapter
My avermedia one was working perfect but when I started using the elgato it started doing this
Technically the mod counts - but the fact it's only the app that's dropping means that's not the issue anyway. Likely an EDID issue - go into 4K Capture Utility and in settings under device try setting EDID input mode to Internal. May have to restart the Wii to get it to pick up the change.
Hi all, I've currently got a HD60X and trying to do a dual PC streaming setup.
I'm currently struggling to find a tutorial online where it teaches me how to route audio from my gaming PC to my streaming PC without buying anymore products. Does anyone know of any way to route audio from my gaming PC to my streaming PC?
You go to more sound settings, and click the recording tab, you should see you capture card, and click listen to this device. Then you should have audio.
anyone else's capture card crashes when you start streaming on discord?
No, what are your pc specs?
still doing it.. maybe i should return it
did you try a different usb 3.2 or 3.0 port?
yes
What resolution does your mod upscale to? If it's 1080p try setting the bottom EDID option in the app to 1080p as well.
Also does the mod have EDID override? Some do, most don't. Depends on how they're upscaling
its 480p still, just makes it look less blurry
idk tbh
720x480 or 640x480? I can't 100% recall but I don't think HD60 X likes 4:3 ratio. But a lot of mods and adpaters also convert to 16:9 stretched or cropped to play nice with modern TVs anyway
l have support ticket too but any idea if followed all trouble shooting on site and over phone, on l happen after moved few things on stream setup, never happen before. But no consoles either or pc monitor. Thought l share in here and used elagto reporter for them too
720x480 16:9
i asusme fimware version 0 mcu 0 and fpga 0 with invalid edid is a dead card
Yeah, that reads to me like you'd best be served by contacting #official-tech-support instead for next steps on replacing that hardware
i put in a ticket on the website.
thanks for confirming what I had a feeling was.
Alas, sometimes filing an RMA is the best approach to take
Fingers crossed it's resolved soon!
Tried it in 3 pc's with the same identical issue so its dead jim. Stuck in my craptacular ez cap capture card for the meantime
:(
i did the ticket took screenshots of everything + the card and the seral number on the back of the card
hope it just makes it easier for them to just do the RMA and call it a day
That'd be my guess as to what'd happen, yeah
NGL I have always kind of had issues with this card, thought it was maybe me but after all brand new elgato cables etc and the fact it started screen flickering then rebooted the pc and then it died
makes me think the card was just kinda holdin it togeather
It's very possible, yeah. Some of these issues can manifest in weird ways
irony is windows can see the card can see the audio etc
it just invalid edid and firmwaree everything is all 0000000
It's possible it might be repairable at the factory, if Elgato wants to refurbish it
Though that could be more trouble than it's worth
out of curiosity have you tried forcing a firmware update?
yes cause the card says it needs updated because its 0
tried that rebooted shut down unplugged power bla bla bla rebooted and it does the same thing
tested it in 3 machines
which card was it?
all 3 do the same issue
gamecapture 4k60 mk.2
cards not even a year old
tested on my i7 machine i9 machine and my trusty DELL just in case things die machine
and all 3 do the same thing its like it never actually flashes the firmware and or init the edid
But windows sees and installs the drivers
that's weird.
elgato sees the card too, it just doesnt show a firmware for it a mcu for it or a base for it
all 3 show 0000s
sent you a DM, but hopefully you can let me know if it's the corerct ones
started yesterday. ive restarted my pc multiple times too.
ill try it out again now
do you have anything in dev mode on discord?
i only have dev mode turned on but i dont really mess around with anything
see if you turn it off, if it helps
also do this in Discord. Use our latest technology to capture your screen: Disable this option in Discord.
Video Codec Options: Turn off Noise Suppression and the Video Codec options in Discord's settings.
Audio Subsystem: Change the Audio Subsystem from Standard to Legacy.
@warped ledge i recorded what happens.
See how it works fine but when I stream, it crashes.
I'll try what you suggested and let you know. Thanks for helping!
let me know if it works.
hm... actually do this,
choose elgato hd60x
it's working on discord but the 4k capture utility doesnt show anything
i wonder why
oh one sec, lemme remux to mp4
ok 🙂
because only one instance can use it at a time, that's probably why it kept crashing.
hm... are you not using a tv/monitor for passthrough?
im sorry im not very tech-y.
im not sure what a passthrough is. but if it helps,
i have my ps5 connected to the capture card, the capture card connected via usb to my pc, and the output is connected via hdmi to my main monitor
is the problem because my capture card is being read by my computer as a camera?
it's like a webcam
oh i see
what can you suggest so that it doesn't crash anymore?
sometimes when it crashes, even my wave link crashes T_T
how many monitors are you using?
i use 2
ok, so when you're streaming on you pc, and you're gaming on the 2nd, you can still see the game on your 2nd, when you are selecting the device in Discord? Essentially this should be the setup, and it shouldn't crash, as you wouldn't need to monitor it when you're real time gaming via passthrough on your 2nd monitor.
Main Monitor
- So all of the things I stream are on here.
- I game here as well.
- So, if I want to play PS5 and stream it to my friends, I use this main monitor BUT I change the input. My friends will see the stream, and I will be able to game in HD by switching to the original input.
Second Monitor
- I basically just use this to monitor Discord. It's placed vertically so I can't really game on it.
Basically i just switch the monitor input to hdmi to game in HD with my ps5
ok you need an actual 2nd monitor not switching inputs, as this is not going to work the same way a pcie card does.
isee
anyway thank you!
it used to work for me honestly 😦 i had my pc fixed a week ago and maybe had some settings messed up
that's unusual, have you done a CHKDSK?
no. im not sure what that is
might want to do that process first and the sfc / scannow
but I'm going to bed.

have a good night
thanks so much for the help @warped ledge !!! i can see a clearer picture now thanks to you. ill try to troubleshoot this myself ❤️ ❤️
Ok, so something I noticed a long while ago but never investigated properly, was that I got a whea uncorrectable error in the event viewer when using my 4k pro elgato pci capture card. (But there is no bluescreen error )
It only happens when that capture card is plugged in but it seems to function properly but throws that error in the event viewer.
If i plug in an old hd60 pro, it works and there's no error.
Is that just something that happens with the 4k pro cards? Or is it a driver error? Or did I get a lemon?
Whenever I Google it, it doesn't pull anything similar
When you say blue error event, what exactly do you mean? Is it just a blue screen every time you plug it in? Have you updated the drivers and the firmware?
It's not a blue-screen at all really but the error does show up in the event viewer with an unrecoverable 16 or 17(maybe a 19 too?)
Drivers updates, windows updates, reboots, graphics card updates, rollbacks, uninstall of drivers, googling, everything i can think of were done.
Ugh... spellcheck! Im so sorry let me go back and fix it
Spellcheck added wording into it. I don't know why. But I apologize
Here's an example from a long while back.
If it's supposed to do that, it'd be weird but ok. But I wanted to ask about it
Would it help if I reproduced the problem when I got back? Maybe a windows update or something fixed it?
so I reproduced the situation by reinstalling the elgato 4k60 pro, and found a bugcheck error when restarting.
In addition to the image, it also gives a volmgr error saying the dump succeeded. which it doesn't do when I have the hd60pro
what else do you have connected via PCIE?
my graphics card
its a 4070TI. but if I have the HD60 pro installed, none of these errors come up
I have also tried uninstalling the graphics card drivers via DDI in safe mode, and reinstalling custom and default installs
Hi all - I've been having an issue where I have to unplug and replug the power to my HD60X capture device in order to get any audio to come through WAVE LINK. Without doing this, audio doesn’t pass through to WAVE LINK, and both video and audio don’t show up properly in 4K Capture either. This has only just started happening. and it has to be done every time I power on my PC
Has anyone experienced this or know of a possible fix?
That sounds like it could be a usb power state issue.
Check if fast boot and usb selective suspend are turned on.
Either of those could cause usb ports to not be fully on and characteristic symptom is be unplugging and replugging, the port turns fully on as it detects a new connection.
Where would I do this?
Never been an issue like this in the past until yesterday
this is something I've been experiencing as well..I've not had any issues with my other devices only the elgato devices. Even about 15min ago, my 4K X stopped receiving video signal. To fix it, and I'm not sure if this will fix your issue...I utilize NVIDIA broadcast, I had to go into the task manager and end the task for it and reopen the software, this seems to fix it...other times I have to unplug the usb c cable from my pc...so it's spotty on the corrective action to take. All of my other USB devices work as intended. This usually happens if I'm not using my capture device for a period of time or if my pc is a sleep for a while.
hmm the only issue is that I route my capture card audio through wave link. would this solve the issue as well?
hmm...that's a good question...I don't have a wave link so I cannot be sure.
Does anyone else have this problem
For some reason when using the capture card I lose signal and then out of nowhere ill get the screen splitting into segments with the colors messed up
How am I suppose to capture my gameplay if this can happen randomly
Depending on your capture card, it might either need to have the driver reinstalled or maybe try a different USB 3.0 or 3.2 port
I can help you with this if it’s dual PC but tomorrow it’s almost midnight.
Hey guys, when trying to play through my 4k60 pass through recently my screen is fuzzy, any idea for a fix? Everything is up to date
Looks like a lot of noise in the connection. Try reseating the cables, or replacing them.
Good day everyone,
Looking for some help with my Cam Link Pro.
Here is my set up.
o Windows 11
o Motherboard: Asus Prime B650-A (Bios V3222)
o CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
o GPU: NVIDIA Quadra P400 (with the latest update)
o Cam Link Pro on the latest drivers
When in OBS I can only get one input to display. I have tried different cameras and the same results. When I use the Elgato 4k Capture I can see that all cameras upon display but only in the multiview Cam Link HDMI 1 input. Is this a bios setting I need to change? This all worked before in the past as recent as last month. But I believe a windows update or upon going up to Windows 11 did casued the issue.
Gpu is the problem here
Well you’re right @jaunty elm I’m going to check out a Yeston 3050 for my setup and see if it will play nicely.
You do that
While I wonder why the p400 didn’t play nice with the capture card
It did and I am puzzled why it is.
Then again it might be something as simple as a Bios setting to allow more bandwidth in the lanes?
I need to look up all the settings for my bios settings to see if that is it before I get that GPU.
Sometimes motherboards split pcie lanes between different slots and the M.2 slots. Check the manual as maybe something is being pulled down to only 4 lanes or something.
Just checked the specs and hmmmm.
I am only using one M.2 slot in this machine. Should I change the location of the M.2 drive?
Also is this price I paid by going with a MATX setup?
I wanted a small footprint so I went with the MATX build but I needed 4 PCIE lanes. I even took out my asus audio card to free up the bandwith of the lanes just in case.
Also read this about bifurcation.
"Bifurcation doesn't reduce the bandwidth available to individual devices, but rather divides the available bandwidth among them. "
It looks like this is saying there are only 4 lanes total, shared between all the slots?
As in, this board only has 4 lanes of x16….
Slots does not equal lanes…
I feel like I’m not understanding it. Hopefully this works.
Picture doesn’t seem to say what the m.2 slots use.
Yeh I was thinking that as well. The M.2 is located in the upper part of the board.
Doesn’t matter where it physically is. Hopefully it has its own lanes, but they will describe this in that section of the manual
Some boards do something like drop the first slot to x8 when a m.2 is installed. Another m.2 slot might split a different pcie slot, or something.
Boards meant for gaming should have a x16 slot at the top that is never split. (Should)
Ok we now we got some good news. I am able to see all cameras in the Elgato 4k utility app.
Ah nice
With out freezing when it is changed to another input.
It is still moving a little sluggish in the 4k app but that is starting.
What pci version are the slots? The cam link is happy with 4 lanes of 2.0.
Even the biggest GPU would be not restricted by 8 lanes as long as it’s 4.0 or better…. A lesser GPU wouldn’t even saturate that.
This is a PCIE 5.0 board.
Ok then gpu should be totally fine. Even with only 8 lanes. More than enough
If it’s sluggish, I guess that’s just general computer load for the power of the parts.
Nope same results. But I do see input 2 from the Cam Link Pro flickering at times in OBS.
Also should I be messing with these settings for OBS for my GPU settings?
GPU 3d settings have nothing to do with OBS and generally shouldn’t be touched.
Got you and will change the two items I messed with.
But I swapped out the cam link pro and it is smooth and works.
Only thing is used these and seems that the camera without one is not displaying.
Take that back it is still doing it.
😤
4K X stuck on a firmware update.
Will the HD60s be able to capture the switch 2 ?
Probably but they don't have a Swtich 2 in the lab yet so no official confirmation. Keep in mind that HD60 S is limited to 1080 at 60hz though.
How long has it been stuck? If more than 5-10 minutes you're likely going to need to disconnect and reset it and try again. If possible try doing it from another USB port
Is it safe to disconnect?
The 4K X changed to this in the 4K Capture Studio:
Also, yes. It's been about an hour now.
It wasn't the device that crashed. It was the application, unfortunately.
It's not ideal but if it's been stuck an hour there's no real choice. It's a lot less picky about a reset during flash than the older cards at least, and if it's been stuck like that for a while odds are it's done whatever it was doing and just stalled
Yeah, I doubt there's anything else going on.
If it stalled during update you're still going to need to disconnect the card to remove power so it'll reset
give it about 20 seconds before reconnecting
Right. Just making sure. I know disconnecting when in firmware mode is tricky.
Yeah, not much choice if the app crashed out. Worst case 4K X should still be inside the warranty period if it did get stuck. But you're probably fine. I had issues with a flash on my own with no issues
Hopefully this one takes
It did!
It still can't be seen in the 4K Capture Utility, but it can be seen in the Elgato Studio.
Hello,
I have an old capture card, the HD60 Pro, the PCIE one.
It's certainly old, but still very effective, as it has a built-in encoder.
I don't know if it will be enough for the Switch 2, as I'm going to enable 4K.
Unless I have to upgrade to a 4K Pro card.
Thanks in advance for your feedback 🙂
If you reboot 4KCU should pick it up again. But as long as it works with Studio and other apps that's not a huge issue anyway
HD60 Pro will not support 4K. It should work at up to 1080p60, but anything more than that you're going to want to upgrade to something newer.
silly question but after the update did you unplug it and plug back in...my last firmware update instructed to do so
Yes
If you updated with studio some of the usual prompts may still be missing since it's in beta
its been a long time since i last used my hd60s+ but i connected it to my laptop and no new firmware updates since i bought this in 2022
Should I get the HD60 x or what you recommend
It depends on what you’re wanting to get out of the card. Are you looking for just the format of 1080 P output, or are you looking to do 4K recording?
I’m just tryna stream Mario kart that’s it nothing fancy I already have the HD60s but I wanna make sure everything runs smoothly
I just realized i might have a problem
My TV doesn't support VRR
and i want to use my 4K TV to stream the game to the TV in 4K, but to my stream at 1080p
would it be best to just get a new TV even if the TV works fine, or just deal with it when i plan to get a switch 2 soon as well
If you want to play with VRR then you need a display that supports VRR (and a capture card that can passthrough VRR, if you're capturing)
But streams don't do VRR so that's just about what you see while you're playing.
I have an HD60X, and I play on both PS5 and soon to be Switch 2. i would love to be able to play in 4K at some point to get the crisp new features of the switch 2 and PS5
HD60x can pass through 2160p60.

This means the device is sending a lower resolution than your app is capturing at. so, are you.... really sure everything is 1080p? might be worth resetting and starting over with a new capture source and stuff.
like do u mean my capture card my pc or my ps5?
The capture card is saying that it can not upscale a lower res image to the resolution being captured. So either the source device is sending lower than 1080p, or the capture app is capturing higher than 1080p
what do i do
That's all the info I have.
Figure out which of the things is not doing 1080p
is this correct
That's OBS canvas, not the capture card source
it's correct, but your video capture source could be set to anything
i have it as default
There you go. Take that off of default so you can change the resolution to 1080p60
it's probably defaulting to 2160p
alright
i set it to custom and put the res to 1080p60 and there isnt any input and when i check my audio mixer the capture card is gone
Be more specific. "isn't any input"? What do you see?
it doesntshow the elgato logo anymore or my gameplay
black screen... that could be HDCP or something else set wrong on the console.
if it was getting no signal it would show an elgato logo with "no signal" written on it
you could try just deactivate and then reactivate in the source properties window. Maybe unplug and replug the HDMI cable. Might just need to refresh?
i did it still isnt working
Do you see the image on the passthrough display?
yeah so we confirm the console is sending an image becuase you can see it passing through to the display. but the capture card is getting a black screen. This.... seems like HDCP. if you really think it's turned off, check other settings that might not work with this capture card, maybe? VRR or HDR?
Maybe just reboot everything for good measure
vrr off hdr off hdcp off
If you’re looking for an upgrade, the HD 60 X is perfect, but I would try to work with the cards you currently have and see if it’s even possible. If not, then I would suggest upgrading.
Try reboothing everything... delete the OBS source and re-add it new? Don't know...
okay
I did it and theres still no display with custom capture card settings but when I go to default it says invaild output res selected
could it be this?
not sure just trying to check everything at this point
Oh that's right what about the privacy settings? apps need permission to use the card as a camera
also on this screen it looks like it's a 1440p video, not 1080
wait
I figured it out idk why it was letting multiple apps use the capture card
thanks it works now appreciate all the help@lone crypt
oh you had another app open?! yeah you can't do that with any of the USB cards, generally. Most of the PCIe cards can do that
1 sec ill show you
this was enabled
when I turned it off it worked
anyways thanks a lot for the help @lone crypt
Oh weird, this is a windows setting? I haven't been aware of that before, but I'm not on win 11 so maybe that's why
yeah a setting from the camera app
So I bet the camera app was trying to take control of the device... stupid windows
My TV doesn't support VRR even though it supports 4K 60, 4K 120, 1080p 60, and 1080p 120 and HDR
That feature only got added in a recent feature release iirc, it's been in Windows Insider builds for a few months. This is going to be a "fun" new thing to keep an eye out for - sounds like it's setting up a virtual camera internally which may be messing with resolution settings.
Then you won't be able to use VRR. Switch 2 only does VRR on the built in screen anyway (they had an error in earlier spec sheets, but have since confirmed no VRR in dock mode).
But you can passthrough 4K60 with HD60 X using the HDMI out port to your display- capture will be limited to 4K30 though.
Is there a way to force flash an older firmware onto a 4K X?
someone on reddit updated to a new firmware version from February (which isn't listed on the firmware update page for the 4K X) and now they aren't getting any signal in other programs
thought I'd ask on their behalf - not just in case it would break for me as well, but by extension to also ask why the page hasn't been updated with said new version yet (and thus also the 4k capture utility not knowing about said firmware)
This for the mac user in the Studio Beta Megathread? I just replied over there.
That said firmware files are included with the app so in their case they'd need to flash it with the older Capture Device Utility on the mac (holding down option should override the version check they're hitting). Same thing for PC users but with 4K Capture Utility and you'd have to hold CTRL while opening settings to bypass the check.
Yeah it's for that user haha
And aaah, so I do remember there being something about holding Shift or CTRL 😄
Can someone help me very quickly pleasssss, my capture card is plugged in correctly iv triple checked and everything, but my obs isn’t picking up my ps5 audio and idk why at all
Do you have a headset connected to your PS5? That's the most common issue - PS5 works on a one audio stream per user model and when you plug in a headset it'll disable HDMI audio out
Even a USB dongle for a headset that's powered off can do it
No I don’t, I usually have my head set plugged into my pc so I can hear my ps5 and pc
But there’s literally nothing coming through
Check the audio settings and make sure it's set to Linear PCM for the format
It is
The other usual hiccup past that is noise cancellation being applied to the card - if you can check if NPC voices or voice chat comes thorugh
Are you only using HDMI audio or is there something like Chat Link setup here?
Only hdmi
Also does the audio work if you use another app like 4K Capture Utility? and/or does the audio meter show it's getting audio in OBS and you just don't hear it?
I think that’s why, it won’t even show my ps5 on the 4k capture utility
But idk what to do about it
Make sure you don't still have OBS open when launching the other utility
most of the cards ccan only be used by one app at a time
If you see volume in OBS but don't hear it go into the advanced audio settings (in edit menu or the gear on the audio panel) and set the card to "Monitor and output" for the monitor setting
Nope there’s no audio, nothing coming on the screen despite it being connected and on the right settings
Still shows it in obs when I launch that tho so I have no idea what’s going on
Have you tried unplugging it and then plugging it back?
Yh
I’m gonna try for the next 10 mins and if it doesn’t wanna work I’ll just use the stream system on ps5. (Iv used it before and it’s not that bad, you just don’t get any of the obs perks)
K
If you go to the old Windows Sound settings (press Windows Key + R and type mmsys.cpl , then click OK), and go to the recording tab, do you see the volume indicator moving on next to the card? If you go into the properties for it, is it turned up there and mute not clicked? If that doesn't change anything you can also try turning off the option that lets apps take exclusive control on the Advanced tab and reboot,
You might also want to check Windows Privacy settings for mics, to make sure it's set to allow apps and desktop apps to use mics, as that will include the audio feed from the capture card.
Not sure if this is the place for this but my recordings are coming out darker than the actual game when I record.. I use OBS and I just chatted with them but it's also happening in the Elgato 4K Capture app too.. so I'm asking here if anyone knows why. I can't seem to figure it out.
Have you checked the settings in the utility?
Yeah I can't see anything that would have changed. I haven't messed with anything. It seems to happen when I load a game. It'll look fine.. then the capture card will disconnect while the game loads, and then when it reconnects the issue happens. Is it normal for the capture card to show no signal for a few seconds when loading a game?
So it seems to happen when I'm in fullcreen.. I switched to borderless and it's good now.. but I'm still not sure why fullscreen is breaking it
Probably HDR or something is turnning on when you're in fullscreen
That'd result in the tonemapping on the card turning on
It might also be a RGB range, but most games don't override that afaik
Hmm. Okay I'll look into it. I've never used HDR so Idk how it'd get enabled
Fullscreen mode overrides windows current settings, it may be on by default when using that
Gotcha. I'll take a look. Thanks
Yeah so weird. From what I see HDR isn't supported. I did find this setting that was on, so I turned it off.. still no luck. I also unchecked 'Enable HDR Recording' in the 4K capture utility
I've missed something sorry - what I was suggesting about HDR was for the dark colour issue. The disconnect while the game loads is expected when playing fullscreen instead of borderless, as in fullscreen mode windows hands the video output settings over to the game causing things to resync. It should not happen in borderless unless the game is changing settings after loading in.
Try changing the RGB range mode manually in the settings (OBS and 4K Capture Utility both have a setting for this), as the screen migth also be going between limited and full RGB
that could cause the darkness especially if the auto detect mode doesn't pick up on it correctly
I wanted to know can OG Elgato HD60s work with usb c 2.0 yes or no ?
It requires USB 3.0
It also doesn't have iPad compatible drivers if that's what you're looking for again. iPad will only work with newer UVC based capture cards that don't need specific drivers, all of which need USB 3.0.
IPAD 10 generation still me buddy ?
If you're still trying to capture your PS5, your best bet is to try the PS remote play app, and a program like camo studio to display capture the remote play. iPad Gen 10 won't work with any of the Elgato Capture Cards.
Ok
Are you still using an iPad 10? If so, you your answers from us will remain the same, you need to meet these requirements. Also could be an HD60X, until you have these items, we will keep giving you the same answer. I know it's not what you want to hear, but please factor this in moving forward. Thanks!
Elgato Capture cards work with iPad Pros that have a native USB-C connector, specifically the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later) and iPad Pro 11-inch models, and other iPads with USB-C like the iPad (10th generation and later), iPad Air (4th generation and later), and iPad mini (6th generation and later). They do not work with iPads that have a Lightning connector.
I am struggling to get game audio from my Nintendo Switch through to a discord stream using an HD60X. I have troubleshooted a majority of issues, including:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the audio devices via Device Manager
Trying to use the old Sound Capture plugin to reroute audio through to a stream
Resetting voice settings in Discord
Unplugging/replugging in the USB from the capture card to my computer
I've had it work prior to this without tinkering with any settings, so to try streaming it again and running into an issue with none of these methods working is extremely confusing to me.
It's somehow been rectified. I wish I could say what fixed it but I'm completely at a loss.
@chilly abyss - what app are you using your capture card with? And does the audio issue happen if you use a different app?
streamlabs
it also isnt working with the 4k capture utlity from elgato
it works for 3 seconds when I plug it in then stops and records nothing
video works. audio doesnt
im losing my mind
it never worked out of box
and ive been trying to fix it for 4 months now!
@past basin
4 Months? Have you put in a ticket with #official-tech-support on that already?
That said my first guess is Windows Audio Enhancements are getting applied to the card and breaking.
If they're not in any of them, you can assume enhancements are off
i did Key + R
typed it in
went to the card props
dont see anything saying enhancments anywhere
@past basin
Just sent a ticket to support
This is NTUS
NUTS*
Did you do it the other way with the new sound settings too? That option moves depending on what version and patch version of windows you're running, as well as a few other things
Sorry, going to be in and out here for the next little while
Do you get no audio at all when the card cuts out, or by any chance to voices still come thorugh? Noise cancellation getting applied to the card can be an issue, and would explain the brief time you get all the audio before the filter kicks in
Now that I'm more awake you should also check your XBox is set to Uncompressed Stereo for the audio output on the HDMI/speakers.
Hey there!
Is there any ETA on a fix for the Elgato Cam Link Pro getting disabled when playing Valorant?
It makes streaming really difficult when the camera feed cuts out mid-stream because of it.
Would appreciate any updates - thanks in advance!
That's a side effect of their anti-cheat - Valorant's anti-cheat intentionally blocks DirectShow on the system, which Cam Link Pro, and a couple other capture cards operates on. Short of Riot Games removing that restriction from their anti-cheat, there's not much to do for it, but they do it intentionally since some cheat programs have also used DirectShow. See https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/9482241809805-Issues-with-Valorant-and-Elgato-Capture-Devices
You could use a UVC based capture like Cam Link 4K instead, as a workaround since those aren't based on Direct Show, and shoudn't get disabled.
@past basin didnt work. changed the hdmis too. still nothing. works for 30 seconds then goes to no audio just a popping noise. all settings are set up correctly. honestly now just wondering if its a fault capture card
ive installed the driver along side the app in order to use the cpature card to get footage off my tapes, but it keeps popping up something alerting about elvidcap preventing any use
what can i do now?
Hm, that could be. You've covered the usual culprits already - support should also be able to look at the logs and see more info if it comes to it. Hopefully they can get the issue sorted our or the card replaced for you in short order. Good luck!
Is this for the Video Capture device for converting VHS and the like? Are you on mac or Windows with it? Any chance you can screen capture the exact error?
have you checked with usb tree?
reposting from general chat #general message
i have a quick ask, is elgato supposed to have a split second of delay on capture feedback n stuff
trying to use it on my laptop as a makeshift HDMI port since i dont have a tv right now
i know the answer is probably >dont play videogames off elgato
but still l'd like to know lol
i have an HD60S
prob out of date
Yes. There's always a slight delay because it takes time to convert from HDMI into something the computer can use, then depay from the software rendering it on screen. For HD60 S the delay is about 60-70 ms usually but the system specs and software play a roll. Which app works best for your system can depend on a few things so you might want to try other apps like OBS or Meld Studio to see if either of those cut the delay a bit.
The HDMI out port on the card doesn't have this same delay since it's not converting video so when you have a spare TV or monitor again, I'd switch over to that if possible.
i need help setting up my capture card
ok awesome, if i may ask real quick does everything here look okay?
at 15 Mbps bitrate I'd probably switch to 720p60 or 1080p even - that's a bit or a high bitrate fro 720 (not that it won't work, just seems like overkill unless you're working with high motion in which case 60 fps is probably better)
What card, and what specific issues are you running into?
thank you
Yo someone come thru
Who uses an elgato hd60x on there Xbox and knows why my voice ain’t detecting do I need a chat link pro or is there something I don’t no
To my understanding, you need a mic that is plugged into your pc for the playback to include your voice
Hi! I have an Elgato HD60 X and I’m trying to use passthrough at 1080p240Hz.
It technically works—my monitor shows 240Hz—but the image isn’t smooth or feels laggy/stuttery during gameplay.
Is this normal? Are there any settings or tricks to make passthrough really smooth at 240Hz with this capture card?
Thanks a lot!
I don’t have an pc only laptop
And when I tried it wasn’t working so Mayby an chat link pro will do
I love elgato though my first ever time
Same thing in this context.
Ok ima try again
Mayby it’s a setting
Maybe
I have cloud 3 hyper x
If that means anything
Chat link pro doesnt accept my headset mic so i have to get a second mic that will plug into my computer so my stream can hear me talk. The chat link pro is so both you and your audience can hear whats coming from your game.
I am disgusted with my purchase 😕
I love Elgato, but this is really bad
I tested all possible configurations, impossible to have a clean 240Hz on my screen
I dont think it ever advertised allowing a 240hz passthrough. Could you mirror your main display to a secondary monitor and then record the secondary monitor instead of the primary?
I already tried, but when I use Windows to duplicate my screen, the result is mediocre.
Yet Windows tells me that I am in 240 Hz
but it's not smooth
Interesting i was not aware of that. And your resolution is set to 1080?
yes
But when I duplicate the screen it's perfect but impossible to record my main screen and obs it works badly my pc is not powerful enough
If youre using nvidia gpu, does nvidia control panel show 240hz too? I had that happen where windows settings said i was at 360hz but nvidia control panel was set to 60hz
I have the GPU of the processor it is an n100
But it displays 240Hz in the Intel panel
Are you sure its not just a performance issue? With obs running, game running, especially aiming for 240 fps with those specs sounds really difficult. Tbh unless you are 100% sure its not a performance issue i wouldnt be aiming for such high framerates
I don't play the game with this PC
