Go to the Cackling Crab by talking to Samantha (the Herald of Mischief), go to the Crow's puzzle room, the entrance to which is found next to Samantha, and just wait there for a couple minutes. If the Crow's puzzles have all been completed, wax (and event ticket light) spawns there...maybe every 30 seconds to a minute? I haven't timed it, but its frequent. No need to candle run at all, just a quick jaunt over to the puzzle room and you'll have plenty of wax.

Why is the only realm connection that can be accessible between the isle and the prairie, and the wasteland and the valley?
Like, we can get back to the Isle by going back from the Prairie start. We also can fly back from the wasteland social area to head back to valley temple

Meanwhile, other realms are not.
Prairie-forest, we can still get back to the prairie temple after we're in the forest social area, but it only happens after the prairie. When we start in the forest through the realm portal, we can't get back to the prairie

Forest-valley, when we're starting in Valley social area, we can't fly back to the forest end tunnel as the wind flies you back

Wasteland-vault, once you went to the next realm after wasteland temple, and arrived to vault, we can't go back

i don't think there is any lore to explain why it's friendly in the cackling crab. days of mischief is an event not connected to the larger story of sky, so the typical rules and logic of the game world don't have to apply

I think TGC likes Halloween a bit more than the other holidays all the other events are put in places that are/have been used for other events, like seasons.
Halloween, on the other hand, gets an entire zone all to itself, The Cackling Crab
