Dark skykids are such a fun concept
I’ve made mine kinda like natural-born vampires, they dont need to eat light skykids ||some do though||, they just need to chomp on some mantas. The light they gain from eating is so they don’t outright die from darkness since dark skykids are an unnatural occurenced that’s caused by a certain elder of eden.

They dont burn under sunlight but they just dont like the feeling of the sun so most of the time, you’d see them in the forests, wastelands, and maybe the vault. They do like the sweet warm taste of light tho.

There is a half light and dark skykid in my au though, her nature is very unusual for skykids and quite delicate too since she needs to eat light and dark so her light doesn’t get consumed by the darkness or her light burns her up. Purifying or corrupting her is a no-go because her body physically cannot handle being purely light or dark.
She does have resistance against darkness and light but no immunity.

That skykid oc has also never visited eden yet (subject to change) so who knows if she’s able to ascend.

In my au, it’s like how light skykids really dont like being in the darkness of eden or wastelands. Didn’t stop some from living in those realms though.
Though there is a very good reason very little skykids stay in eden and it’s not the krills, the rock rain, and the shards.
Some whisper about what happens if you sleep in Eden.
One may wiggle their way into a certain someone’s nightmare. A realm of nothing but regret and despair in the air in areas of monochrome grass, twisted forests, dead wastes, distorted white palaces.
Most importantly, you are not alone there. Whoever is in there with you is certainly unhappy to see you.

It’s possible for some dark skykids to develop a tolerance to sunlight but most simply just live in the wastelands and forests.
