lmao i jsut wasnt sure if it was against discord rules or the servers rules. as chibi its really easy just use the botton that makes you keep one foot stationary causing a circle to appear beneath you. then you drag your other foot onto an incline that makes your foot dissapear bneath the ground. then let go of the stationary button and run. if you do it in the correct location you will fall through the floor. people say the ninja stance makes it easier

Pleaful Parent ( ) is by the campfire, widely considered the hardest spirit. Respectful Pianist ( ) is on the other end in a skull, a little difficult but not too bad. Last time I had to do Pleaful I had my Wingless do most of it since they're functionally immortal (though it's still hard because they get knocked out of the circle and have to try to get back in time)

like i used to jump straight but recently I've been jumping diagonally to maximize both the speed of jumping and walking diagonally

The only place I diagonal jump is the pipes in Forest where Provoking Performer is (if I'm understanding "diagonal jump" correctly )
Also, the general knowledge that sliding is sometimes faster than flying, flying can be faster than jumping, and jumping is always faster than walking is pretty important. Just have to optimize when you fly vs. slide/jump

Is has seemed for awhile, moving in a diagonal + horizontal movement from sharp angles gives a significant increase in movement.

Also, have noticed some tech where in certain zones, you can just "hover" and cross an entire large map in seconds.

You might be referring to the phenomenon of taking into the air when you're already going fast? I'm not entirely sure. You keep momentum if you take off while going quick, and if you're going fast enough, it automatically puts you in the other fly mode.

This is while in the "hovering mode", and in certain maps, you go at basically max flight speed (Limited by the zone / eviroment of course for whatever that max is)

And you won't lose ANY height at all, as long as your moving foward and not making any sharp turns.

So you can cross maps with very little effort, while also ignoring whatever dangers it may have as well.

It can be used to cross graveyard for one example very easily..

The community is allowed to have influence on a game if it betters it as a whole but it can get very stressful to handle the incoming ideas and stuff, I think so long as a game is released in a playable state and you can see the love and care that was put into it, then it's perfect. So long as the game developer loves it then that's what matters, it's their passion project and their ideas and executions of them~

It's a bit unfair for people to expect really high things, we all dream of it and that would be ideal, but we don't live in an ideal world
I feel bad for the devs that feel pressured into lengthening deadlines cause they get stuck in the headspace of "will they really be happy with this", perfectionist is a double sided trait

That's why I'm pretty upset with the HK community, they get upset with the devs being silent, but they have to remember a lot of things;

• The game is 2D handrawn and animated piece by piece
• It's much bigger than HK due to the size and speed of the playable character; they have to build the world around her
• They wouldn't want to interact with a fanbase that critisizes all their actions while they're working

I feel like the longer they’re waiting on releasing the game, the more expectations there will be and then people will expect nothing less than a masterpiece. Especially for a game this famous, what worries me that it could really hurt the developers if people are disappointed after waiting for so long

Honestly in my opinion, Games that have been taking a really long time to make are a lot better then the rushed games with day 1 patches, But I really understand that will it be perfect better increase the deadline again attidtude.

I think a good example of expectaions is what happened with FNF

It blew up and got really big, raised a lot of kickstarter funds, but then they went dead silent for a while, and during that time (since the game was open source), people got their hands on it and made their own mods that kept raising the bar for quality and expectation

Same with undertale yellow and stuff - but people have to remember; it's always gonna be easier to build off of something that someone already built from the ground up, it's very easy to take something, look at it, and then say "oh yeah, I can improve this" - yeah, it can be improved, but that's not a fair outlook

That’s really only feasible for relatively unknown indie passion projects. Some of the best games I’ve played are indie games that took around 10 years to make. These developers are relatively unknown so they can make games without heavy expectations imposed on them. That’s part of why the games they made are so good. For larger companies or well known indie entities, that wouldn’t work so well since they have a release schedule to follow and meeting the fan’s expectations in a timely manner.

It makes me really sad cause I love Undertale and when I see people talking about how bad it is in comparrison to UY it's like,,

My hearts go out to indie game devs and their passion projects, I love indie games so much, because they have full unrestricted creative potential and aways make such amazing things without the limits that triple a studios put on (though companies like FromSoft very well prove that they can also do amazing things with a franchise)

Imagine creating a genre, making sequels, and then making each sequel amazing, as well with similar genre games also being incredible, now that's talent (all without ruining them for the case of monetization like most companies will)

I hope one day I too will finish and release a game that properly puts into perspective my love for creativity and give people the experiences I felt with my favorite titles :3

However, the unfortunate thing about most indie games is that they are relatively unknown, despite the passion and effort being poured in. Like even the well known indie games people are talking about are only 1% of most indie games. Most of them are unknown and forgotten

yeah and beyond being indie, there are just some genre that won't become popular, no matter what. sometimes, if you want your game to be recognized, it should be made as palatable for the widest audience possible. i don't think that would be an issue for your game though. there's a lot of demand for that type of game

But I've never played it.

It combined 2 of my favorite genres; metroidvania and soulslike

The open metroid-inspired world is so fun to traverse and mark places with stuff "just out of reach!"
The combat is perfect. It can be fine tuned with charms to fit your playstyle, and the bosses play really well (and also dake inspiration from some dark souls bosses :D)
The art and music also compliment each other really well - you can look at the individual details and go "wow that's amazing", even just a single screenshot looks incredible, and the music makes and take great advantage of "layering" to play its layers at the right moments to immerse the player in tense or calm situations

Both from a game design and gameplay perspective it shines in almost all aspects and I love it

Before rain world HK was my all time favorite, now it's somewhere up there in the top 5 or top 10, I've expanded my games much since then (2020)

They're really quite incredible especially paired, I highly suggest giving them a try, especially the ones that add platforming into the mix, if you enjoy those kind of things, I recommend Animal Well

If you want to get into metroidvania, Animal Well is a really nice place to start
if you wanna get into souls-likes, Dark Souls Remastered is where the good stuff is

i'm probably outside the norm but i never found that i like hollow knight that much. i agree with you about the art, music, world design, and to some extent, the combat. however, i'm probably a little spoiled when it comes to rapid and smooth controls (coming from ori), so i couldn't really adjust to how "sluggish" the movement is in comparison. Also, i was obsessed with the aerial combat that ori had and i kind of missed it. if hollow knight had that kind of movement and controls, it'd probably be in my top 10 games

I've played Blind Forest but haven't yet tried WotW, I've heard good things though, I was mostly put off because I didn't like some of the platforming sections in Ori (mostly the flooding tree... I really really really didn't like that part)

yeah i don't like the "bosses" in ori 1 since they were just chase scenes. in the second games, there's actual bosses and they're fun to fight. you could defeat them while never touching the ground and flying around the boss area, and i love doing that

I also feel like they could've done something with the combat or removed it entirely - it feels weird, like it's there, but it doesn't change the gameplay in any way, if it was removed I don't think that would have changed from the core experience at all

yeah ori 2 took some inspiration from hollow knight when it comes to the combat, and i think it worked really well. combining with how fluid the controls in ori is and the aerial combat makes it really fun to me. combat in the first game was kind of weird though

The rest of BF I could take at my own pace and do things calmly, then the tree flings me into a timed flood sequence, it felt very sudden and just lots of attempts before I got lucky and sightread well enough

Absolutely - though I will say it does have post game elements, like layers - If you've ever played FEZ or Tunic, it's kinda like that

If that doesn't interest you then Animal Well might not be all that fun, because that's where a lot of its charm also comes from, though the main layer is still really really fun and worth playing
