After they streamed some gameplay of the less spoilery areas, I was captivated, I’d always had dreams about flying as a child! When I was told it was free with no ads, I was sold! Downloaded it that night, and opened it up for the first time the next day after work.

I get your point. I must say, not just the world map, the gameplay of Sky is pretty confusing if you don't read the wiki or ask other oldies for guidance.
I have watch some videos of people who play Sky who use the wiki/ tutorial very little and they struggle quite a lot. The in-game guidance is not clear. If we don't ask the Internet for help, we will have to do the trial or error method most of the time. It doesn't seem pleasant that way to be honest.

in practice, if we dip our toes in water nothing happens. so the theory on clay dissolving on water can easily be disproven. if we swim chest-length touching the core on Skids' chests, nothing also happens. i said that cuz i know Skids are made of light, as seen many times like when we first start playing the game in Isle and ||Eden rebirth scene||. when Skids are fully soaked in water (rain, underwater is when we start losing energy. the difference between that itself is that rain drains wing light whereas diving underwater drains oxygen (or at least Skids'/the kingdom's concept of it if not oxygen in the human realm for us) and immediately drains ALL wing light energy upon lack of oxygen. what is the concept of Skids' deplating light, where do we draw the line, what are the difference? the theory of Forest having poluted water is a thing but Moments questline shows it does the same thing in Prairie (thanks Aster). maybe darkness just fall everywhere (thanks Spring), that also sounds interesting, and if we look further the clouds have somewhat light properties, recharging wing energy, so maybe they cancel out in a way. then again i don't think the theory is plausible enough. if we follow how precipitation works in the real world then all rain comes from all waters in the kingdom and all waters are polluted, which is wrong since only Wasteland water is. ofc this isn't the human world so who am i to judge lol at the same time Forest IS meant to be a realm to represent the weather rain. in a bigger picture all realms represent stages in life, Forest represents early teenage iirc and i always precieve it as emo phase (in a way. i also need therapy).

TL;DR: rain-soaked and diving has different effects to Skids. logic unknown. many theories on it. theory of Skids out of light/clay dissolving when touching water doesn't work cuz swimming chest-length and even dipping toes on water doesn't work. rain is weird. Forest is emo.

If you're willing to put in the grind for TS, you can do it before the reveal anyways
If you don't like the TS that comes up afterwards, then it's not like you'll lose your candles before the next one
