I can’t remember the entirety of Pioneer’s walk, but the trick to it is, there’s bits of scenery that can work as shelter. If you hold them under there, you can let the timer recharge and resume your walk once it’s full again.

This was the big ticket, thank you. There's no in-game mechanic that says the timer is reducing because of the rain. It looks like any other normal timer. Using the scenery helped a ton!

That spirit is one of the more difficult spirits to do, there are mushrooms on the trees that you can use to shelter the light from the rain.
