Just a quick Q about the colouring pages, how do y’all make the drawings so gorgeous? Do y’all do line-art over the OG colour? I’m so curious cuz I’d love to colour in one of those cute pages!

I just use the bucket fill tool and do the rest I rarely ever trace over unless I wanna add my own thing

For future reference, it may be a better idea to asks these kinds of questions in #general-sky-discussion or even #sky-fanart-sketches-and-art-chat
But personally, I usually have the line art on the topmost layer and color underneath. I spend a few hours coloring, shading, and adding a few effects here and there. I also use more textured brushes at times to give it a different feel. It's really up to personal preference and practice, though.

i set the coloring page to multiply, then create new layers underneath the coloring page and fill it in! multiply keeps the black lines but not the white (it isn’t transparent tho!)

OOOHH MY GOD this took me days of working on to finish even though it’s really simple and probably could’ve taken anyone else an hour or two but here it is!! I colored it based on Valley of Triumph :D Tried to use canon/in-game colors as much as I was able, and I’m actually really happy with how it came out! :D

If you use Procreate, here are the Procreate files for the renders (colouring in) that I've done of the coloring pages here
Feel free to remix / peer inside. I come from open source communities (including a drawing community on Paper 53 that's now gone, but every drawing was remixable) so it feels natural. Btw the layer names are just one interpretation of the characters, so don't take it to be canonical or whatever.

Was considering doing it a long time ago anyway — plus I'm really feeling it right now. Just don't take credit for the base render yourself, and give credit if you remix.

Also wanted to share some tips that I've found helpful for colouring these in:

• if you use a transparent outline, try not to leave the outline just pure black — try using a colour like brown or purple, and set the layer to "multiply". This will give it a more naturally-blended tone
• you can draw arrows pointing in the direction that the light is pointing, to help with rendering lighting and shadows. Pretty good the only thing is that if u are going to pick bright colors u can chose a lighter like pastel or darker like gothy also try not to use the airbrush

I know what you're trying to say, that shading only with airbrush will make the drawing look dirty, however some lights that reflect are blurry and depending on how close an object is to another will determine how clear or blurry the shadows are, so sometimes the brush can be useful, but it's much better to use a normal pen and blur manually or use the gausian blur filter on ibis for larger surfaces

I recommed that you shade and liht not just the background, but the characters. This makes it more realistic. Hopefully this helps!

P.S.To shade the color white I'd recommend not using grey or black, sine that makes the shading bland and boring. However, the colors purple and some kind of dark blue are popularly used ^^

initially, I divided all the work into pieces, and then I equalized everything, I put something in the foreground so that the lines don't fall where they shouldn't

just divide the work into a distant, medium and near subject and everything will be much easier
( if I understood the question correctly haha )

How do I have it so I can only color in the lines and it doesn’t overlap or anything?

If I understand this right, you can usually make a layer above the line art one and set it to something called “clipping mask” so when you draw on that it should only appear on the line art! Another way you can do that is by going on the line art laying and finding something that says “select opacity” and that should make it so you can only draw on that layer! Both of those ways will only work though if the line art layer is transparent, I hope that helped!

Digitally, it makes it much easier to color because it it only the outline! You just have to make a layer below the transparent one and you can color it with ease :)
