Those are lifesavers with backgrounds and getting your background perspectives to flow, so I recommend practicing those! Once you get the basic idea down you can start playing around with them. Also I once got the advice to think of my background as its own "character" and that really helped me with adding personality to the backgrounds. I hope that helps?

There have been some discussions here about the skin color of Sky kids. Before a long-winded lecture, I want to say as clearly as possible: Sky kids in your art can be any color you choose. They don't have to reflect the game's colors faithfully because our Sky kids are ourselves!

Some of the discussions have been searching and inquisitive, some have bordered on accusatory and difficult. It's not a new thing, and it's not just one or even a small number of people who have put some thought into how these relationships in art apply to our real world and the real conflicts that surround the subject of our ethnic and geographic origins. No matter how those questions are asked or answered, there's no harm in wanting to take the subject on in a mature and respectful way.

One of the questions is cultural appropriation. This has a long and difficult history and is absolutely worth it for artists to study. One question is about art styles that are popular and carry an outsized influence, especially on younger artists. Young artists will need to find their way through growth, but will not benefit much from being told what not to like. One question is about whether Sky kids should be represented only literally as they are in the game. The list of questions on this topic is much longer than what I can write in 4000 characters, but the answer to all of them is the same: Sky has the strength of all its players, and in Sky fanart it will always be natural for people to express aspects of themselves creatively.

Fanart that brings individuality and a unique perspective from the artist will always be uniquely enriching for the community

It depends on your personal preference I think. Given that skykids are dark-skinned in-game, I think it's OK to draw them as dark-skinned in this case, and on the flip side there can be concerns about tendencies to whitewash Skykids too. I think in this case your intentions are thoughtful and not malicious, so I recommend you go with your gut and do whatever your conscience tells you would be best. There are multiple sides to it and ways you could think of it, and I don't think most people would assume disrespect either way.

Well for me, it depends
I dont consider sky kid human, the dark gray presents in their skin tone looks more like clay colored so i dont thing calling em "dark skinned" is accurate since they are not human, and not following human standard/skin tone
On the flipside, i also draw my sky kid with more human skin tone, it depends on what you want to go through
