I agree with you. I draw with a computer mouse, on a computer in the Adobe Photoshop application. My projects weigh more than 100 MB, and the fan-arts weigh 11-20 MB (this is if the art format is PNG), but if it is JPG format, it weighs 1-8 MB

the tl;dr of how I personally apply colour theory:

• with more muted palettes where the values are closer together (there's not much contrast between lighter n darker colours) that's where it comes down to saturation to make things pop. We like seeing shiny things and are drawn to the shiny, so if I deliberately made the shadows desaturated, and the points where the light hits in higher saturation + values -> it stands out much more and it's what your eye is drawn to
• cool vs warm is a very basic art fundamental and can help make a piece seem much warmer or colder than it really is if you just throw a teeny bit of it in (also it just looks cool)
  it's something to offset an otherwise majority warm toned or cool toned piece
