I like it! If you’re going for a more colourful vibe it would work, the brown on the other hand blends in a bit too much to the mask, so if you are going for the brown maybe try the one below the brown I suggested ^^

i think try adding small reflections of colour. like dark blue in the parts where there is dark blue. light red where there is light red.

That's in the last part of shading hair sadly, coz if you pile on all the shading layers after it, it would take more effort to shape the reflections around the shading you put in x_x

I'd say you really have to focus on the lighting- it looks flat in your image because you're "pillow shading", maybe try making the top right side lighter than the left and bottom and then detail shade the individual parts of the hair after that

That's the thing I don't get- my style usually includes multiple light sources at once- that's why I don't understand what's not working now. Imma take your advice though and go at it light and then dark and light again, see if that works. Thank you lots ^^

Believe me I’ve been there I HATE hair exactly bc of this reason what I can also recommend as an easier technique for drawing hair is making it rly dark and then working your way up with highlights, like I did here (the same with saturation, you can start its rly low saturation and even small hint of color will stand ou)

That might be my problem- coz I always start with the base shade and shade down with the shadows and such- and then I'll throw in the highlights and call it a day :'D (I tried hair for the first time in may (At least in my style) So I know next to nothing. Thank you so much for this again :'D)

Some people do that but from my experience it’s rly difficult

What helped me btw in that case is painting like oil painters do, I recommend looking for some oil paint portraits on YouTube, they usually start with the darkest values and work their way up, it takes some practice but it really helped my rendering and work flow!

And np, I went thru my art journey alone and learned a lot of mistakes wayyyyy to late so I’m glad to help ^^
