I do really like shattering so far. I’m not entirely sure why it got torn apart so badly for not being lore focused in the way players want it to be (as in, focused specifically on a certain type of lore) when so many other seasons are the same way?? But I do hope a lot of parts of it are explained more in universe , as in, why the eruptions started in the first place and how they effect the characters in world

Ash has said that there is a “lore bible” that the devs follow with Sky’s story. They can add whatever else to the world via the use of seasons, but those seasons probably have to keep in tune with Sky’s basic story. However all that story is mapped out internally and the clues they’re dropping are often as meager as beans or, with bigger lore quips, vague. Hence why you’ll sometimes catch us jesting about hijacking the lore bible — there are so many clues that hint toward more significant clues that could complete the puzzle but we don’t have them.

I’m kind of in the middle with this debate, bc I definitely wish a lot of the lore was more obvious and accessible in game, but a lot of the time I see people complaining about it outside this channel and it sounds like what they want is literally just to be given a book with everything they’d ever want to know inside, and I’d despise that

another game i like has a rich and extensive lore that likes to be coy with it and stays vague throughout the main plot, however theres a character that will literally info dump the lore if u go out of ur way to bring them xyz, i think itd be cool if sky had smth like that at least or similar, like hidden away but still there for the dedicated lore folks, and if ppl dont wanna do the hassle of the task its a quick wikipedia article search

The medieval history major in me, who has to do a lot of image analysis already, geeks out over the idea of reading pictures as opposed to words, because throughout a lot of history, people were a lot more skilled at reading images than we are today and it's a skill that we've mostly lost as time has gone on. We're not nearly as good as it as most people have been. Technological confusion aside, if you handed Sky to an ancient Middle-Eastern merchant or a medieval peasant, they would probably have an easier time figuring out the story than any of us today. And that's a double-edged sword to me, because on one hand it's a fascinating concept that just... Aaaaaaahh it makes the historian in me so excited... But at the same time, "we're not as good at this as we used to be" means we're not as good at this as we used to be

Another good way to tell stories is by visual connections!! Like how someone above mentioned the assembky and lightseeker masks being similar, or the shape language with elders, etc. Sky seems to utilize these a lot and I feel like I need to mention them as well

As cool as murals are, there's A LOT of other ways to tell a story without words and I personally think all of them are being just a bit underutilized by TGC

I could list like 3 examples right now from my head of games that do visual storytelling very well... one of them being Journey which is also by TGC but the point still stands that it can be done so much better

Spirit memories tend to be extremely inconsistent as to how much they show, what they show and just how interesting in general they are, a lot of them could certainly be improved a bit

ok here it is. So you know how clouds in murals are rendered with swirls instead of big daubs of paint, or even just going ham with handprints? My headcanon as to why this is is thst the mural paint is toxic when you touch it, so the ancestors couldn’t touch it for long, and they had to use special tools to paint it with instead of finger painting. Hence why all the lines are the same length and shape and why there’s no actual finger or hand marks,

warning for, again, uh. talking about injury and how that works for skykids
||before i start quick briefing on my whole "petrification as a defense mechanism to keep light in" thing, ask if you're confused. anyway- i believe that, although a skykid who is full on light can heal from minor injuries almost immediately, anything worse than that will linger like a normal wound- cuts and serious bruises and the like, though what i'm about to say mostly focuses on cuts.||
||when a skykid is injured in a way that breaks skin/whatever skykids have, their bodies will quickly create a layer of stone over the area to trap light in, like... very fast scarring, only with time it will usually fall away once healed. however- these wounds can get "infected" in a... vauge sense of the word.||
||when the stone first starts covering the wound, it'll normally go OVER the surface like a bandage would. However, if complications occur, the stone can instead dip into the wound and keep going, causing inner petrification. Combined with the fact that the eden update shows that skykids who are turning to stone also get covered in crystals, this... this hurts! Luckily, it's pretty simple to deal with, you just kinda gotta... sit in a fire for a bit. Skykids can do that in-game with no negative reaction, they're most likely fireproof, and the high concentration of light would clear up any of those issues. Still, it sucks when it does happen.||

Though, my one consolation is my headcanon that a Skid (and a spirit) when turned into stone, can “fall asleep” a bit, allowing their consciousness to rest...because the idea of being fully awake while being a stone statue is too horrifying to me

Yeayeayea! i definitely think that after like. a couple hours petrified a skykid will just fall asleep until woken- and also that their light will slowly rekindle when fully petrified if the darkness isnt bad enough to get thru the stone, so if theyre not found after a couple weeks they can still recover and get out by themselves

So the light isn’t warm...seems to intimate that this light is a memory and not “alive” or “in the flesh” so to speak. It’s like a pastiche, or illusion, or even an after-glow of a light’s presence

No drifting currents—no movement, there is no “life” in this light, but perhaps also there is no “current” of something to make this static memory a living message to someone, something that has “movement” in being shared and discussed

“Songs lost to the void” seems to go with this, suggesting a message or form of expression—something emotional and vulnerable as a song—is unable to reach a listener due to being “lost” somewhere along the way. (An animal spirit or memory in limbo inside a crystal?)

“Bewildered in final moments of stillness”...almost sounds like the fading away of a song, of a vain cry into the void for someone to answer them...like the death of a creature ..

So yeah, we know this is a lost memory, but this peon seems to also describe the last moments of the spirit creatures we are saving..? I’m not sure

I feel like us purging the crystals is what is allowing the trapped creatures within it...or the “memory” of a creature...move on to the afterlife

Now, how the Skids affected the crystal to make meteors by them just being turned to stone around it...how does that work with this? Idk

and this made me think back on the whole season. like- why is it shattering now of all times?

The huge diamond always looked very unstable & beating like a heart since long ago.

so what if what we're (sky kids) doing now are the ones making it change. We keep on going to eden over & over again, dies, getting reborn, and go again…and that resulted to slowly change the King's heart thus "shattering"

we're the ones making that stone-like stubborn king change & also to save/remember the creatures by freeing their memories

Maybe it’s stubbornness, but also perhaps grief and despair too...if we interpret the light kid we meet when we die as him, notice how he is curled up on the ground dejectedly, and revives with a hug

(Though I also like the idea that the light kid is like, an essence of us, some sort of picture of self acceptance, or acceptance of death or of failure? Or of the deepest parts of ourselves)...really that moment feels like a visual representation of an “epiphany” or spiritual transformation

The poem is both thr beginning and the end, which matches my headcanon of Sky being a cycle that repeats. The story both begins and ends in the Void. It is both the beginning of the light born in darkness and the end of light defeated my darkness.

I don't know about the "big mecha king" but I do think that the king was a very respected individual as there were statues of him+his symbols (the 4 edge star) everywhere.

& from the season of prophecy, if he trully was the one in the murals then he prolly was also strong & wise as a ruler.

But unlike the "season of prophecy" that showed his amazingness…this season shows his cruel & child-like side. with him throwing a tantrum & all

and I think that's what makes him unique & not 2 dimentional as a character.

The red diamond that we see in ||PNR|| has to be a stone which actually helps make a lot of sense because

Prior to the season of shattering I thought that that was a flower because of the way it moves and parts of it flail in the heavy wind.

When I thought that that was a flower I was comparing it to svtfoe (star vs the forces of evil) magic sanctuary flowers and how it could possibly be holding something with inside of it which could explain where king aleph is

It could possibly still be a flower just a mechanical one because sky has proved that there are certain mechanisms in sky that work like that, like the eight-player door and the mechanism directly above it that recedes back into the walls allowing you into the area where you can summon Oreo

And what was eden before it became like that because there are several signs that ||Eden|| used to have a different purpose then what it is now like the broken down boats when you first enter the windy gray area

There is one statue of two huddled up skykids in pnr that can't be saved (kinda like the 5 statues before the long coorider in Eden that's filled with winged lights, but this one more closely matches the other statues in pnr).

They don't have dark dust, are behind a wind wall, and no matter how close I got the button to give a winged light would not appear. And, since there are supposed to be the same number of savable statues as the previous layout (61) and there's 61 other statues in pnr besides this one (counting skykids that are huddling together as 1 statue as that's how the game treats them), I don't think this statue in the photo is savable.

But the question remains, why gather the knowledge and give it to the megabird?

Not to mention.... something I've noticed (or better 'defined') is that the Eden crystal is supposedly spewing out these shards into the kingdom right? So another way of seeing it would be that the diamond is replicating itself and spreading... like a fungus lol

Also the shards disappear when the darkness plants are irradicated, does this mean the shards can't survive without the plants?? That doesn't make much sense since there aren't any darkness plants in upper Eden. However, it may be more like they can't survive without darkness in general, the plants being an extension of that in the case of the daily shards

Interesting.
Unless there is a way for a mineral like crystal to be able to launch a piece of itself far away and start growing its own cluster (which sounds like an epic doomsday fantasy novel), I am not sure if that is what sky is head for.
Perhaps it is the crystal tearing itself apart as it spins faster and faster, like a star becoming a black hole.

As for the dark plants.
It has been established that these plants take root in places where darkness may be present (be that a place where a traumatic event took place, a source of darkness is nearby, or a place that is not in direct sunlight).
Since these shards are corrupt with darkness, it would make sense for the plants to rapidly grow, while feeding off the shards.

But then why does the disappearance of the plants cause the shards to leave if the plants are caused by the shards and not the other way around?

I believe the plants are darkness that is leaking out of the shard, and thus burning them debilitates the shard

Well seeing as the eden storm continually throws red rocks and even regular stone against us in the eye with no end, when we see the stones shatter and dissipate,

i feel like the shards are just an extension of that, large chunks of rock from the mountain being blasted by the eden crystal with corruption and lifting them up with surges of energy across Sky, and light is very much able to store memories, (eg memory spirits, elders, the entire vault of knowledge), so maybe these intense light memories become corrupt, turn into rock (like even sky kids do when we are hit by darkness), and when we burn away the darkness, it turns into what it once was, a light memory, like what happens when we give our light to statues, they turn back from the corrupted, dark version of what they once were

There was once a time where Eden did have Dark plants, and with it, wax. Though that was in the time of Light Awaits, and back then, the dark plants in Eden were crystal/rock like in appearance and more jagged than the organic (though still pointy) look of the plants.
Lorewise, it would make sense for dark plants to be in Eden, though there may be a reason why there is none in the game.

Frankly, having a cave with dark plants would be a fun place to explore for skykid able to withstand the effect of darkness. While a new player may need to work up a higher tolerance (iow. get more winged light for more wedges) in order to properly explore it.
Almost like an area that caters for players that have progressed into the game. Something like mid-tier or late game content.

While it is nice to have new content to get the newer players started, I cannot help but feel like there may be a need to split the content into tiers. Partly to prevent overwhelming new players with the expanding content between updates. cater for players that may be looking for more challenges in the game. As well as veterans who are very familiar with the mechanics of the game, and would enjoy having ways to help new players aside from giving passive support.

For instance, while the game says that the harder shards are best taken on with friends.
There is a notable difference to a group of new players, and a group of avid players.
While a group would probably have a varied cast of players of different skill levels, having a vet or expert player in the group would be a major help. Since they can take more hits, can provide more support and would be quick to react in avoiding attack as well as helping downed players.

No matter how much the game is geared towards helping each other in the game. 9/10 a new player will be getting more help from an avid player than anything else. And once that new players gains more experience, they themselves will become a support npc to a new party of moths.

In my opinion, and observation.
When a plant is burned, they leave behind wax.
Meaning, they have drained away the darkness and it turned into light.

While a plant is an indicator of darkness, burning it helps heal the environment. Since the darkness it was feasting on is burned away with it.

Perhaps, as we burn the plants, which then feed on the crystal more in a vain attempt to regenerate itself.
Ergo, (hypothetically), the crystal is drained of its darkness by skykids burning away the plants that feed on it.

Which is perhaps a perfect solution to the sky world.
A creature send down to cleanse the world with fire, but in a controlled manner.

Could it be that the shards we use to relive past memories are the same ones used in the Memory Lanterns in Vault? Perhaps the Memory Lanterns gave the Ancestors visions when they "read" them, similar to what Sky Kids go through when reliving a shard

Thee red shards found in and came from Eden could just be corrupted versions of Darkstone. The red shards take and destroy light and its essence while Darkstones take but store light and utilize its essence to generate power - their usage are nearly polar opposites and we all know that Darkness turns good into evil (evil is the polar opposite of good)

Both red shards and presumably Darkstone (or some variant of it) can store memories. I like to think that the corruption acts as a firewall in the red shard which prevents us from seeing the memories until we get rid of the darkness

This gives further credence to the idea that darkness is actually protecting the spirits. Basically, the balls of darkness we burn to relive a spirit memory protect that spirit from fading away so we can one day save them. Think of it like Pompeii but with the stone sort of holding onto the people's souls so they can one day be saved.

The fact that we canr revisit the Elders insinuates that they're memories too. Since memory can be stored in red shards, it could be possible that the King (Eden Elder) is trapped inside the red diamond as a memory in PNR. We just can't get to see him because, as I've said, the Darkness found in red shards act as a boundary that prevents people from seeing the memories stored in them unless they get rid of the Darkness first

They alternatively could have rocky/clay-like bodies with the properties of Darkstone infused in them in order to absorb light and use their energy to forge candles. Apart from being literal wax magnets, their glow when they muster up a honk points out that they could have some bit of Darkstone in their bodies since Darkstone lights up similarly when they use/create energy

there is some evidence to support the idea that skykids are a kind of mix between the two, but it seems to be a less popular theory for some reason. people have even debated on wether the concept art showed skykids being hybrids between the two despite the concept art basically saying that the skykids from the concept art are hybrids. (since this is concept art this would not apply to the skykids of the current version of sky, but only to the version of skykids that was present in concept art)

i can pull up the two pieces of concept art, just remember that concept art isnt the best kind of evidence, you can use it to support a theory but you do have to agknowledge that it's concept art and could very easily no longer be canon to the game (like how the isle elder isnt a vulture anymore, and like how forest elder no longer "seduces" and kidnaps skykids - i am very glad that version of forest elder was scrapped)

On a serious note, it's a shame seeing all the scrapped content of Sky. If it weren't for time constraints, hardware limitations and the targeted demographic (for Everyone), the game would've been "fuller" in a way. Hopefully if TGC were to make another game, they could implement some of the scrapped content of Sky

also, we see that darkness has good aspects as well, like ambition (not sure if technology counts as an aspect lol). and, if we go by the theory that the damage to the world of sky was caused by the light and the darkness going out of balance (rather than the darkness itself causing the damage), then we may be able to theorize that if the balance was thrown off by overuse of the light rather than overuse of the darkness, we may have had a similar situation to hollow knight (ie: hive mind sorta deal.) since the "bad" aspect of darkness involves isolation, the "bad" aspect of light could go to the very other end of the spectrum with a sorta hive mind.

Now that there has been a black shard without a memory I can expand on this a bit.

It appears that not all darkstone contains memories of creatures, the black shards only grow darkness around them.
Either this means that they never had creature energy put into them, or after time or usage, the energy of these creatures gets depleted, though we have so far only seen charged, and uncharged shards and none "inbetween", even in Eden.

The real tragedy of this is all the red shards contain creatures power, and they are the ones that hurt us the most, from red shards to falling red rocks in Eden.

That reminds me of a theory I have seen about if you were on the outside watching someone fall into a black hole, as they reached the event horizon, they would seem to stop and start fading, as their light couldn't escape from the gravitational pull to reach your eyes, so they would effectively look stuck in time.

I have a feeling it may have been a Brian Cox thing, it sounds a lot like him.

yeh. they could get around this issue by having an "oob" event, where theres a switch, or spell that you can get, in office that lets you basically turn off wind walls for yourself (perhaps other spells could turn off reset barriers or make it so you can clip through objects more easily while swimming since you cant really chibi slide underwater, perhaps there could be a spell that lets you swim and dive in deep water too).

There are reset barriers all over the place in Vault, for example. People could clip through four-player doors without helping others, and lots of other things besides.

people already do that? its not introducing any issues that dont already exist, plus they could kinda fix that by making it work kinda like the double doors in prairie village, where they open when someone inside the room goes near them.

or making it so when you use those spells, you're not in a public server (basically, making it so you're essentially in a singleplayer game), im not sure if they would need to make new servers or if the game could just run on your own device during this though.

Hey Lorechat! I want to present to you a theory! In theory we know that the Elders had something to do in bringing the downfall to sky. Yet, it wasn't the darkstone production or the pollution, it might've helped tough. As we know in prophecy four elemental lights are given to the elders by the king, who were given to him by megabird/SKYGOD. Seeing as the lights come from them, they might've made the ancestors lose controls of these gifts due to the abuse of light creatures and interrrumpting the 'circle of light'. Henceforth the lights went beserk and destroyed the realms. The wasteland was burned down by the light given to the Wasteland Elder. The valley twins controlled the light of wind went beserk who froze the spirits in the valley. The forest was drained by the light of water, and the Forest Elder may tried to remedy the issue by creating an artificial rain (made of darkness/darkstone), killing off the realm's inhabitants. Then, since Prairie was mercifull and even benevolent toward light creatures, the prairie succumbed to mild earthquakes, explaining why there aren't any murals, they're buried. However, the earthquakes backfired and sunk the Isle of dawn and the Sanctuary Islands under the sea level. Then we have Eden, who in the eyes of megabird created this mess and launched a combination of the four calamities that shook Sky to the Capital of the kingdom, Mount Eden. It's still in progress!

My working crab idea is that they’re corrupted jellyfish, because —

• tentacles turn into their legs, domes turn into their main body
• jellyfish hover in the air and move in small circles; crabs make similar small circles on the ground when they’re not attacking you
• crab and jellyfish calls sound eerily similar
• crabs are sometimes found around jellyfish/where the jellyfish would have been, esp in forest and sanctuary
• completing a crab shard shows you memories of jellyfish

Sunglasses in Sky, just like the witch hat, the bull mask, the parrot (I mean, Hawk!) mask, deer antlers, santa hat, or even the helium balloons, or birthday cake; are most likely added to the game because of aesthetics (they look nice and players would enjoy having them).
They are a bit meta, since the main setting of the game seems to be from a different time.

However, given how the game can be a bit meta, and the lore is open to interpretation, you are welcome to say the sunglasses are part of the game.
What is canon and what is not is difficult to say, especially with how the devs value fanon.
If the game was to be strict about the lore, then the game would not have joked about the Krill, being that they are called Dark Dragons.

For what it is worth, a Sky equivalent to sunglasses would be the ones Lively Navigator wears on their head. But the sunglasses of the Chill Sunbather look just a cool 👍

I wonder if we'll ever be able to "unfreeze" the frozen memories, release the creatures trapped inside. the shards do dissipate as we "cleanse the darkness" then we collect lost lights around them that conglomerate and ascend. yet there is still a frozen memory we can enter after. is that a facsimile of what was inside that we released or is there light still petrified?

considering the shards are from the Eden diamond, is the Void of Shattering an entity that would represent the "brain" of the Eden diamond? we released the lights, but it still has the memory, able to recall what was petrified

red signals active darkness thus danger. the Void of Shattering in Homespace jumps around whenever there's an eruption. in a way, it's telling us that there is an active danger in the world. the red crystals that grow off the realm portals could be an extension of what the Void of Shattering is capable of

It's debatable, on the one hand, people argue that the spirits didn't have glass. On the other hand, they had crystals, and they always could just put a bunch of tiny pinpricks in the glasses (like the kind you might see during a festival) or small cuts to see through (like the kind some ancient humans made).

Theory: The Void of Shattering is literally just a regular season guide but just with a different model than usual, and that's because at some point TGC tried to replace the season guides with something else for this season but that broke the entire game so they had to abandon their original plans

I know I’m super late to this discussion, but I just wanted to chime in on your comment: I’m happy there’s someone who mistook the diamond as a flower too!

When I first went thru the Eye of Eden, I though it was a doorway...like, the red texture made me think it was a horizon beyond a cave passage. Imagine my surprise when I died before I could get thru it; I almost wondered if I could get thru on subsequent play throughs lol

After I realized it was a physical object, not a door, it looked more like a closed flower to me as well...the way it shudders just looks kinda...organic or something

Tho even if it is actually rock, it’s internet isn’t to think about why it shudders so much—it’s like it’s just BARELY containing something really explosive. It’s already quite explosive already, so hecc, what would happen if the whole thing shattered??

Headcanon most ancestors could not see the stars when power diamonds became ubiquitous because of the smog, hence why the "stars fell" line is both literal (elders falling) and an euphemism for the stars no longer being visible with the industrialisation of their society

Alright so I've come up with something

In the "mural" seen around the portal to office, we can see a figure that appears to be One surrounded by a giant circle of light creatures, it could either be all the light creatures in the world below or it could be Orbit/the Light
You could also deduce that One is either controlling or guiding those light creatures

In old intro murals in Isle, we could also see One be at the center of the Light, surrounded by the elders, and when they all fall, One remains above

I believe that One might be more than what we all give them credit for, I believe One could have been an unbelievably powerful Elder when they were still above in the Light, possibly being so powerful that they guided or had a great say on Megabird's actions, and they had the power to guide all of the light creatures, a power that Isle and Prairie Elders also seem to posses but to a smaller extent

One was the one in charge of keeping the cycle of rebirth alive using their great powers, but when the stars fell they lost an immense amount of power, and the beam in Mt Eden stopped working

One descended from the Light onto the Sky, and tried to unite the Elders again to regain their power and continue to keep the cycle of rebirth alive

But all changed with the introduction of Darkstone, One and the Elders saw great potential in it, maybe a power great enough to replace One and relieve them from their duty

One tried to infuse a giant diamond with their power to try use that as a mean to activate Mt Eden, but it all backfired and the Void of Shattering was created, One's soul was shattered into thousands of pieces, and the only part left of them was trapped inside the Void
This caused the Storm, which killed all ancestors and ended the Kingdom as everyone knew it

Many years later, those fragments of their soul that escaped the Void would become the Children of the Light, with the sole mission to continue with the cycle of rebirth

I’ve noticed the fraying cape is only when you’re in stormlock. It doesn’t appear like that anywhere else even if losing light to dark water

i always thought that there was a difference when it comes to darkness, because we have the crabs who are sick from the dark plants and water as seen in sanctuary and wastes, and then the mutated crabs with the red shards

i always thought the dark water became the way it was because of the dark plants growth being concentrated in certain areas

Well there’s darkness in dark water. I’d imagine drinking it would really mess with their inner light and cause similar symptoms to drunkenness: uncoordination, memory loss, vomiting, shortness of breath

Man... I know it won't happen, but how amazing and beautiful and mind boggling would it be if after season of shattering, the storm finally cleared. We got rid of the diamond, the kingdom is brought to peace once more, and the mountain was restored to its former glory? It wouldn't be the same as before of course, but I love the idea of the sky kids going up there and rebuilding their own society
