I was thinking about what the Sky kid version of an autoimmune disease would look like
From what ik about them irl, it’s basically your immune system going against itself so you have to take immunosuppressants so it doesn’t kill itself but then it’s not as good at fighting off outside things
Ig the closest thing that they have to an immune system is their flame? So yk how your candle goes out in water to protect it? Maybe Sky kids with this have a hard time keeping their candles out because their flame thinks there’s a threat and always pulls it back in, so they can’t light things as well. “Immunosuppressants” help with this but result in a weaker flame that can’t handle as much darkness before being affected
I have no idea if this actually makes sense or is a decent take on it but do with it as you will I suppose?

I think what I was going for is just as the river of birds leads skykids through the realms, the stars in orbit always lead one back to the rebirth gate. It also may be an attempt at creating an in-universe way to describe the Light's call, what the skykids see, if the skykids can see creature migration paths. I have no idea really

me simplifying the idea on purpose to make it more confusing and more in line with what these skykids would say: im sure there are no unforeseen consequences in the future for this

Yeah!! That seems pretty accurate as an analogy (considering how different skykids are from humans). My take was that their inner flame would always burn way too hot as an attempt to burn away what it thinks are darkness flakes in the air and end up both damaging their shells and sapping their energy harshly (to keep the flame going). Something like that kinda happens with me where, in the middle of flare ups, my body temperature just goes all over the place from really hot to super cold like a ping pong ball so it sometimes feels like there’s a fire inside me that I have to feed.

OH THATS A GOOD IDEA maybe they can pop out of the orbit water anywhere and help them out! since they’re probably closer to the Light than skykids now that they’re spirits (and thus entirely beings of light) they could probably sense it

maybe skids will meet spirits who have already ascended for the first time up there or they go visit spirits who are unwilling or can't descend from the Light. maybe skykids and spirits take walks in the serenity of Orbit. or spirits teach skykids songs or share their instruments

I think of Orbit as the surface of the Light – it's still the Light, but under the waters is whatever afterlife ascended beings of light are having. skykids can't go under the water because they're not done with the world, whether of their own accord or by Megabird's orders, but spirits can pop out the water anytime to mesh with the skykids there. even if the spirits don't show up, they're still there, in the Light. perhaps the skykids can summon them but their presence still feels present, if that makes any sense.

I'd imagine that orbit, as the place closest to the Light and Megabird, is a really comforting place for many skykids. Always imagined it as same temperature as your skin, so you can't really feel any particular temperature, or even a wall between yourself and the space around you. As skykids in orbit still don't have a body, I'd imagine they at least partially merge with the Light before being reborn. It's comforting in a way that you can't really describe with words. Like just being filled up at once with this feeling of safety and belonging, where sometimes the only thing drawing you back towards that gate is thinking of all the friends that you'd leave behind, or all the things you still have to do. But it's still tempting to fade to stardust

in my own ficverse, you can also get corrupted but only by a deal with the king of krills

The megabird is more of a royal pet in my ficverse, since royalty exists in my ficverse. The leader of sky is someone by the name of Caelus, he has power over all and through a staff he can command the light (and dark forces but no one knows that). And yes, reproduction is a thing it's more implied.
They're ranked by position in their society, with the King as the top, elders are basically the judges and teachers, spirits and skykids are the middle tier, their isn't exactly the lowest tier but the dark creatures could be considered that too

My new theory is about orbit is that the path we take is the same as all the spirits and animals take to the light which is why it starts in a weird spot since they all go towards Eden after being revived

And as a spirit (dead thing) they can see an altered state of reality that is specific to them. Maybe we are seeing our own reality before we exit the mountain with all the creatures we met along the way until we finally meet up with the spirits we revived and join them in the light

no. spirit memories seem to depict whatever the ancestors were doing when they were alive. very few die in their spirit memories and it would be unrealistic for spirits to be skipping around all happy the moment they die. therefore they would have to be when the ancestors were alive and doing other things.

could spirit memories be the impressions those ancestors left on the world? in that way, the memories we relive are the spirits' most memorable moments in regards to their location, as the world remembers them? that would explain why some memories are seemingly not as memorable, such as walking, but the world finds it memorable in regards to that ancestor.

another idea that was discussed earlier is that spirit memories are light shed from meandering spirits. their light is encoded with their memories. as they shed them, the spirits forget or become confused. perhaps they wandered to that area trying to figure out what they were doing there but couldn't recall. hence the spirit memories skykids relive are really gathering the light encoded with spirits' memories to help them remember who they are or what they were doing.

I had a theory that megabird chose which spirits to leave behind for the sky kids because they were possibly mentors or played an important role to daily life when they were alive. They were kind of chosen as cultural ambassadors for the world of sky but showed simple things that children could understand. And by important I don't mean "famous" or "noble" like we think of important people for history. Every day people who keep the world running with their hard work

The reason for a chibi mask could be partly because of the game mechanic that lets skykids be tiny without needing to change their heights randomly, and partly because of the ingame name of the chibi mask.

The spirit that sells the mask is called Hide'and'Seek Pioneer. The nickname "chibi mask" (as far as I recall), came from the fanbase describing the resulting appearance to be akin of a chibi character. More so the proportions are in line of a toddler with their larger heads, big eyes, and small body.
While in the past the spirit used to have a full sized adult female spirit as its model, in recent times, the model was updated to be smaller and younger looking (i.e. the adult spirit now looks more like a child).
This in turn does pose an interesting question, did the spirit become smaller when they donned the mask, or was the spirit supposed to be younger even if they did not have the mask?
We may not even know unless the spirit would be able to show in the game that if the mask is taken off, the spirit shifts to their larger, former, size.
The hide and seek aspect of the mask does also give an interesting hint to the spirit. Being that the mask makes the user smaller and look younger, it would certainly give the hider an advantage if they were to hide from someone. While the spirit memory and realm does not include a theme or motif that would support the reason for one to be hiding from something, other than being playful when looking at the Assembly season cast. There is not much information to work off with the spirit in the game.

Game mechanics aside, it is the only mask in the game that is able to have this property of changing the user's appearance.
Unless TGC would consider to expand on the lore, us skykids may as well accept the mask for what it is and be grateful to have it.

I think the mask is a toy tbh. We have a staff that shoots fireworks (and considering where we get that, it might be a tool our skids use as a toy), so the spirits do appear to have 'magical' items available to them. The chibi mask is just one of those items the spirits created.

I have a theory that when skykids are injured or lost a body part, they need wax to restore the wax that was lost. We collect wax but we aren’t injured in any way so the wax has nowhere to go so it just takes the form of a candle once enough is collected.

As someone currently studying plants (and personally studying their edibility)
The yellow glowy flower things are most likely VERY edible
Flowers could probably be used for teas, roots fried up, Leaves for salads, etc.

The purple and red ones I think wouldnt be as edible
Purple ones maybe as edible as the other ones I mentioned but I want to say that parts of the red flowers might not be. Maybe just the leaves and shoots or something
The flowers in starlight desert I believe would not be edible

I've been going around comparing most of the shorter guides. I believe I have the tallest hight you could get, minus tall spells. Out of these four, performance is tallest and assembly is smallest. It makes sense, as being one of the first (if not the first) spirit you could hug, high-five, etc, they'd want assembly's animations with you to look as normal as possible (compare to prophecy who we just..hug their knees)

Assembly is also the youngest of the group I believe. They’re supposed to be younger/a child so it’d make sense their teeny and would get along with us, other ‘kids’

beta facts with Spade! none of the issues at dreams live launch were present in the beta build at the time! In fact, most of those issues weren't even present at beta launch! I have no idea what happened

tgc started putting seasons into public beta testing earlier than before around season of assembly actually. dreams didn't really change much over time, dancing performer was wearing actor's pants in the fist build or two but that was pretty much it, while assembly shuffled items around a lot. so beta seasons nowadays often launch with placeholder cosmetics, missing icons, missing spirit names, placeholder items in the map, etc. Different seasons change different things, but I'm actually really glad they starting beta testing this way. The season doesn't feel set in stone, it can and does change based on community feedback

The ancestors actually flew around by riding mantas or using the flying boats a lot?
We don’t see many stairs or ladders unless in buildings/houses or places you typically wouldn’t ride a manta to reach
So maybe they didn’t actually stay on the ground for a majority of travel

Most realms would probably have looked different a long time ago. Especially when looking at how the clouds landscape changed in the Nintendo promotional trailer.

Although, looking at the Abyss area, there were ladders and stairs, though most of them were eroded or moved.
The Wind paths may have the best example of spirits using ladders as well as mantas to reach areas that might not be able to have stairs or bridges.
It is interesting though to consider that entire pathways or walk ways (ex. bridges) may have been removed over time, especially when looking at grumoy grouch's memory. The fragment had to be carried up steep cliffs and even across gaps while the memory clearly shows the spirits are merely walking (or hiking) up the cliff on the pathways.

I have always assumed they got dragged on the most difficult hike of their life and accepted that-

Found this lovely flute as an example. The didgeridoo is more of an Australian instrument, but that flute.
If Sky had this flute, I dearly hope it would be at a reasonable price, because it would be a prized instrument in my collection.

And now my presentation on What I Think The Murals In The Isle Of Dawn Starting Cave Mean! (Theories first created yesterday at 8 pm)
Let’s go through them one by one.

One: “With the stars united, our light was infinite… …and together, we lived in harmony.”
Now what I really struggled with last time I tried to examine these are what the “stars” are. I think they’re the spirits/ancestors. So “the stars united” would mean they just were good at cooperating, and had their dead in check. This one may also be referring to living pre-King.

Two: “As spirits, we soon became many… …creating our home here in the clouds.”
I think this one is pretty easy to understand. Their civilization grew, their collection of dead expanded. I think this one is referring to post-King.

Three: “But darkness came and the stars fell… …and with their light we faded away.”
This one took the longest to understand. The darkness here is pretty obviously the corruption/disaster, and the ancestors died, but they couldn’t get to Orbit/Heaven. But the other line is where I struggled because I couldn’t figure out if there was supposed to be a comma between “light” and “we”, because without the comma, it almost sounds like they fell because of some sort of light. I’ll present both theories. So first off, they fell because of some sort of light. I think what they’re referring to here is Darkstone. Obviously, it’s not capital L light. But maybe if you really think about it it could be some other type of light, like a lightbulb. Theory two: they didn’t fall because of some sort of light, but fell with it. This one is pretty easy, they fell with the Light of the Light Dragons and crabs. Some other light creatures may have become un-alive too.

This one has a different tone than the other ones. I’ll explain why.
The other murals could, more or less, be divided into two sections by the use of the punctuation character “…”. This one has no trace of an “…” character while the others have two. It also has more individual periods than the others. So I think it was written by someone else, or at a different time. I lean toward the former more.
The speaker of these murals refers to themselves as “we” and “us” when describing the spirits, but also they make it seem like they’re not a spirit too in other instances (“return our spirits to the stars.”). So I think the speaker here is just the Light in general. This last mural could be written from the perspective of a different “angle” of the Light, or the Megabird here to tell us our purpose.
The meaning of this one is pretty simple. Our purpose as a skykid.

Interpret this as you want, though I do wanna say I added the bottom pictures a bit haphazardly.
My take is that ancestors were leading simple lives until the stars fell, which is an event that could be both litteral (the elders falling to the kingdom) and an euphemism (for the pollution from the refineries making it difficult to see the night sky).

Perhaps the elders more direct presence enabled the discovery of darkstone, which at first was used for simple gates like in forest but later evolved into more complex mechanisms such as what we find in valley (and vault), propelling the society to higher tech. But as we can see, that was their downfall too...

Perhaps being in the sky allowed the elders to feed light to the world, but falling weakened them so the kingdom had to turn to another source of energy.

also hey, I discovered you CAN pick up a crab without flipping it over but it’s a bad idea and it can also still hit you-

Fun fact, though it is not easy to recreate.
When 2 skykids try to pick up the same crab, at the same time, the skykid that steals the crab gets bugged.
From the first skykid's perspective, they can see the thief holding the crab, while the thief can't pick up anything else because the game thinks they are already holding something.
To make them drop the phantom crab though would be the first skykid that tried to grab it, because the game thinks they are also holding a crab.

It is a weird but funny little bug.

I am not sure, I never tried it.
I saw it happen on occasion when I played in a game of crab wrangling with a group of skykids.
I suppose it would depend on if the 'thief' tries to fly and the game would let them drop the crab, or the first skykid flies and the game takes that as a prompt to drop the crab.
For the 'thief' it may look like they did not get to pick up the crab, but they cannot drop it.
The solution is though pretty straightforward, just 'drop' the 'crab'.

The article says it may "not even feel like a season" so unusual placement of guides are not off the table. Personally, I'd place my bet on it being either an Isle season by definition (guide is in Isle) with special stuff added, or it being a season like the first 4 where there is no true realm they belong to (on paper, cos rhythm is very obviously valley).

i'm wondering how the changes will actually affect the world. i think it's too much to say that the realms will be permanently affected in the ways seen in say, the screenshot of prairie, where the time of day seems to be changed, since the time of day thing is kind of fundamental to sky's gameplay. it might be changes exclusive to eden, or at the very least changes only visible to players who have completed the main storyline at least once / collected all spirits / etc. just for the sake of avoiding spoilers, similar to how players have to complete the main story before they can see non-ts/current season's seasonal spirits

Ok for now actual theorizing and stuff because I got distracted by the t pose. I do believe it’s mostly going to be Eden based just because anything revolving around Eden will also necessarily affect the whole world. I don’t think I have to justify this point, it’s pretty obvious. The dark sky in prairie especially, unless ANOTHER thing went wrong with the windpaths, then Eden is the only thing I can think of that would cause that.
