Where are the dark/black darkstones located? Haven’t seen them before

There are a couple resting on the table in one of the assembly treehouses (in forest brook, the second quests with the floating frames).
An the dark stones you get to retrieve in the season of Abyss.

Those are blue-gray though, aren’t they?

I like to think Blue, represents the ancestors.
While Golden yellow/white represents the Light.

Looking at a colour wheel, white and black are not seen as colours, but instead the presence or absence of light. From Yellow, to orange, then red (the warm colours), these colours represent the struggle between pure light (yellow) and the corruption of it (red). Interestingly, orange is the middle ground between them, the colour that unites these colours and bring them into balance. Applied to Sky, the Light and the Corruption can be balanced out with skykids, as they are at times shown in concept art to have an orange theme to them.
While the game does allow cosmetics to change the colour theme of the skykid, they still maintain the orange glow.

Speaking of skykids, when they flap, their light would briefly turn blue. Implying they are not just made of light.
The blue colour in the game can be associated with the ancestors, the spirits.
A skykid having a soul can either mean they are the descendants of ancestors (a different type of human being) as the concept art illustrates. Or the skykid is given life from the Light in a similar way as ancestors, though not because they are related to ancestors. (think of it as comparing to a birth of an angel, versus a birth of a human soul. Both are spiritual beings, yet are difference entities).

Looking at them closely, they are mostly a dark colour with grey/white specs in them.
Almost like they have a glimmer to them, or they have a glittery texture.
The dark colour is that of a cold blueish tone.

In one of the little prince interviews, a dev mention the trip to Orbit being the centre of the universe.
So, it is a likely theory.

This is why I don't understand why TLP is not considered canon by some as there is clearly plenty of room for there to be other planets and places that exist besides ours but thats a different argument.

The thing about collaborations are that you have to be able to pick through it and determine what parts to use.
Some folks prefer to disregard any collaborated/crossover content in fandoms. (I assume that) It could be because folks prefer to keep their notes on a fandom pure, or by including content from another fandom may lead to the current lore breaking.

Sky may not be a big player in the realm of multi-universe lore, though with the Little Prince, it has at least opened the door to help folks include outside sources in the lore. As it has been done before, yet had to be supported with more evidence, whereas the season can now help support these theories.

I dont even think it's has to be a multi-verse theory. Our universe alone is so vast that we can't see the edges. There could be so much out there and we just wouldnt know because we can't see that far. TLP or a version of him could exist in the same universe as Sky without there being a hit to the lore.
And let's be real. What hit did he even make to the barely established lore besides upsetting a few headcannons? That there is life in places beyond our little ruined planet? I like that idea tbh

The Little Prince himself was an anomaly in the Sky world, in my headcanons.
He was the only living human in a long time since the ancestors died. What he did and what happened to him in Eden gave us skykid telling details of the world.
To name a few, the prince did not seem to react to any elders. This might because us skykids did not get to see this happen, or the prince cannot see them (which is either case a real shame), but he is at least aware of spirits.

The spirits also gave away a hint about the memories and themselves, though I will elaborate in another message. In short, the prince only interacts at the end of the memory, and not during said memory. This shows the spirits might also be able to interact with the prince, though us skykids cannot test this theory out with every spirit in the game due to the game's limitations, or the fact that the devs did not intend for skykids to drag the prince about and do experiments. The prince was a visitor of the Sky world and has a mind of his own.

In Eden, we see the prince get turned into stone.
Granted, during the season in the lore chat, I made a comment about the prince acting like a skykid. Which gave people the idea that the prince is a skykid or the skykids are like the prince. Which is far from what I meant to point out. When coding in the prince for the season, the devs were clever to make use of the code already in the game to make the prince interactable.
Why should they write new code for the prince to hold hands, fly, grab things, emote and be animated if they can borrow the code for the skykid?
That said, the prince turning into stone, like a skykid does, may not be a related to the coding. But instead I believe this is a hint that any organic being caught in the eye of the storm, will be petrified.
The prince did not last long, because he did not have any winged light to protect him. Which is why a skykid can withstand the effect up to the point they lose all of their Light.

Let's look at this in a different angle.

Let's not include the multiple time we're reborn after going to Eden the first time and ground it to being it the first time around?

Bare with me. Okay, we are a newborn light/moth sent there to that world for a reason. The reason being free the spirits and elders who were greatly affected by the disaster that happened that left them in limbo.

We travel realms, relive the memories, visit the Elders and help them as best we could. Then we arrive at Vault, we were shown what was to happen. It was a prophecy that they waited so long for.

We head up to Eden, free our fellow lights that came long before us, set them and everyone free, and by our 'death' whatever the eye of Eden was (could be a machine of sorts to harness light but overloaded and killed everyone but it is still going like a reactor to a nuclear plant) overloads and finally shuts down just as we fly to orbit.

We fly there, all of us and the spirits, perhaps the elders too somehow, to be given the chance to live again with a physical body this time. No eye of Eden looming over and continue their life as they choose. While we, the light/little moth, have left that world and be reborn somewhere else. Like the ones we saved when they scattered beyond the stars.

This is my interpretation from a story standpoint.

I would like to present a theory that may explain what the spirits are in the present, compared to their memories.

A memory is an event that took place in the past, and the skykid can relive the fragments of it as if it is happening in the present.
The spirit in the memory are not actually there. They are just echoes of the past, a memory.
I like to think the reason why it is difficult to tell a spirit memory from the spirit reacting in the present is either to maintain an open interpretation, or to enforce the idea that the past is trapped in the present.

The world of sky seems to be caught in a time loop (a separate theory I have and am linking to this one).
The time of day is linked to the realms, where the skykid progresses through the realm, time moves forward. Yet, when a skykid backtracks, the time of the day would move back accordingly.
Seeing that time seems to be irrelevant, or broken. The spirits are likely trapped in the realms due to not being able to pass on, as the normal passage of time is being halted.
When a skykid relives their memories, the skykid is making contact with the spirit, freeing them from their personal cycle of reliving their own memories, and then shepherding them to the temple while making time move forward in doing so.
As the spirit reached the temple, they are able to ascend to their constellation.

It is when skykids help ascend the spirits is where the spirit is free to pass on. Yet they remain.
The reason why could be because they choose to stay and help the skykid, as they are seen at the gate in Orbit, yet they do not go through it and instead go up to the stars. Either that or they are not able to pass on still as the world is still broken and time is not healed.

Us skykids are not able to fix time, only spirits. The spirits in turn help fix the environment.
I have a headcanon that the the King is the one that used to be able to control time.
Hopefully one day, the King can help fix time.

I like to think the spirits are where they are meant to be (in constellations as stars) and could theoretically move on by crossing the gate should they want to come back (in which case they would become sky children, light creatures or both) but they choose to stay and guide sky children, as the stars guided them long ago

It also fits with the trend of us inheriting what ancestors had; I always felt there's a tale about legacy in this game, a story about trusting newer generations and change.
A new civilisation born from the ruins of the old. The whole light bird pattern is also reminiscent of phoenixes...

Like, I recall that concept art where, in Eden, we had to be saved from the king's remains by a prince that came from within the king too. Perhaps this could symbolise the king's refusal to accept a successor, and hiding any sign of a new age coming ? Fits with my take on how the light is cycles and darkstone is stubborness against change as well.

Maybe one of the reasons the ancestors aren’t being reborn is cos Megabird wants to ensure they all reunite safe in the Light. Those lost during life get to meet once again

If the story of Light Awaits is that the King dies, and then is reborn into a new Prince to live out his life in the realms in a cycle of birth, death, rebirth. That would be insane.

I mean, that would fit the narrative.
The King is born as a prince in Dawn, grows up in Day, finds dark stone in Forest, becomes King in Valley, rules in Wasteland and Vault, then sacrifices himself in Eden to be reborn and start the cycle anew.

That would also solidify the idea of the King and the Prince being the same person, yet separate people at the same time. As both cannot exist at the same time.

Technically speaking, coral is an animal. It could be like the tiny jellies that don’t give light even though they seem glowy. Coral is related to jellyfish irl, so it wouldn’t be much of a stretch

In the village theatre area there is a backdrop which closely imitates eden yet seems quite different- perhaps performance crew were a kind of peaceful rebels that wanted to show what would happen if the king continued to play around with eden- Which is why their clothes seemed handmade- they didnt have many materials due to being disliked by the king. This is also why performance qg and rhythm qg had to part, because performance qg thought that their twin would be in trouble- i had shared this theory in another server and it was enjoyed so i decided to post it here too-

Honestly, the more I look at the “Eden” backdrop the more it looks like how the mountain looked before corruption, except with a red sky. Like, if you remove that and replace it with a blue one, it looks fine. The red sky could be explained away easily by just saying it’s sunset, and could’ve just been added for player convenience so we could tell what it was right away

The paintings were done by a stage hand that wanted to tell a good story to a humble group of people.
Since the stage is small and the audience are probably not like the high and mighty, the spirits must have thought to dull things down in favour of telling a good story, rather than one of great detail and accuracy.

That aside, the look of the temples is still interesting as they are a bit different to what we usually see. It could be the style, or perhaps what the spirit saw.

Two Valley elder pucks. And since we see the current valley elders with their pucks, there’s only two other people left on the list of possible owners…… the late valley elders. I don’t know how to end this so I’ll leave it here.

Rhythm Guide used to help Performance Guide with the theater stuff and there was this group of people Rhythm liked but they wanted to manage stuff a lot more differently but they and Performance Guide couldn't quite come up with a middle ground so the solution left was for Rhythm Guide to leave with their best apprentices and make their own group

Performance Guide: My good sib Rhythm Guide had their own grand dreams for the performance arts! It was great, really... except we couldn't make it work with what we already had. It was hard to get over at first, but sib moved out with their favorite apprentices about 6 years ago. I'm not lucky enough to get a glimpse of them yet, but I heard they're doing quite well!

I wouldn't usually say too much about this, but the day after they left, Stagehand had a feral fit about them stealing a crate of our instruments. So they think they can upstage us with our own gear, huh? Well, I'll show them that I can troupe as well as they can! ...as soon as I get 6 viable troupe members, Storyteller can't remember sheet music to save their life and Stagehand's a really stiff dancer.

Judging by the color of the two group’s clothes and the relationship between the twins. I believe that the twins came from wealth, and while rhythm guide kept with the wealth and created a group with wealthy people. Performance guide wanted to help out the not so wealthy valley people.

The skating world just wasn’t for them as kids, so they pursued other forms of elegant performance, leaving them with the only two other options: music and theatre. Performance headed up the acting, making the stage with the help of their trusty sidekick Stagehand, and Rhythm headed up the musical elements and choreography. Eventually, Rhythm decided to travel the world and look for other kids who liked to perform like them, learn other music styles, etc. Meanwhile, Performance would be there to receive anyone Rhythm found and sponsor their twin from the sidelines with the theatre proceeds. Every once in awhile they reunite their groups back at theatre and have a big musical

So during my trip to eden I also went to orbit. And what I had finally realized made the flight through the top of the Eden Castle kinda sad. There are houses here, which ancestors probably once lived in. But now they’re empty, a hollow shell of what they once meant to some family. This castle isn’t just The King’s castle. It was a castle of the people. And this shows how the king once loved the people they ruled over, and now we see that love fallen into pieces.

Anyway, yes we do fly by an abandoned neighborhood. And yes we do crush somebody’s house near the end.
This also shows how high the castle has risen, all the way to the point where we can fly theough it in orbit.

Meaning if you put darkstone in there, it would be a quick and easy automatic way for them to use their light to fill the darkstone - maybe involuntarily. Since they’re so weak rn, you might actually kill them by doing this

I’ve always thought they were put there (in a design and lore sense) to teach us about using our light and interacting with the world. Look at the Elder cutscenes: almost all of them show the wonderful things we can do with it. So, I think the candles in front of the elder shrines are an addition to that.

the candles could be memorial candles but I doubt the Elders are dead. as mentioned before, I think of them as interdimensional travelers, but the Eden calamity severed their connection to the Sky world. to the ancestors, even if they knew the Elders were technically still alive, the Elders may as well be dead. they're gone.

the ancestors who lived post-Eden calamity would have a widespread crisis of faith. with the Elders gone, the ancestors' spirits can't ascend to the Light, only to be lost to darkness at astounding rates. they may not have any other ways of directly and reliably speaking to Megabird. a crisis of faith is not merely disbelief but a feeling of disconnect from one's religion.

what happens when all your spiritual beliefs go asunder? for the ancestors promised glory in the Light, only to be taken by darkness. for the Elders to be there to guide them, only to be missing. to feel no voice from their god, the Megabird. for their holyland – Eden – to become a beacon of everything that went wrong.

I imagine that the more darkness around, the sooner and faster a spirit would petrify between dying and becoming a spirit. spirits in Forest and Wasteland would petrify quicker than anywhere else due to the omnipresent darkness there. their living bodies aren't as vulnerably to darkness, so they'd have to die first. then their spirits are liable to petrification.

hi chat i have a question! i thought itd be cute if skykids sometimes built little "villages" (basically just a bunch of glorified pillow forts and tents made of whatever they could find lying around) and. Then i thought about it. Its probably been at least a few cenruries since Eden went kaplooie and killed the ancestors, and... i can't really imagine skykids actually going out and chopping trees or mining stone or refining things. but its been so long that i cant imagine much of the ancestors stuff lasted this long save for whats made of stone. but the silly little skykid """towns"'" (in heavy quotations) makes me happy to think about does anyone have ideas for how theyd get their hands on materials like fabric and wood without having to Make It Themselves

I do imagine Forest Elder showing the skids woodworking or smithing or the like and that's where the skids get started. maybe they find enough loose fabrics to figure out weaving and stitching or other fiber crafts. or they could make materials out of light as with the table. maybe not whole structures but smaller stuff like furniture

i think its way more interesting if skykids just sorta. are skykids and not "human person with slight differences". let them be weird birds weird cats just sortta Entities. they have no sense of personal space and can see shrimp colours and get little pebblets of stone stuck to them instead of bruises if they take a tumble and have sorta almost feathery hair instead of straight strands and can go right from talking up a storm to communicating through body language with no warning. i think skykids are very silly and have Skykid Traits and were probably kinda in the uncanny valley to ancestors just because they look like their own kids but don't act like 'em

Hey so imagine. Skykid sees murals, gets super excited, gives themselves glowing mural-like skin markings because they think they’re super cool. Reinvents the tattoo

i think the way skykids petrify in eden is actually... something they do whenever they run very, very dangerously low on light. its an involuntary defense mechanism like how possums play dead! the stone traps the remaining light in so none of it can get out, meaning itll slowwwly rekindle itself. or, yknow, someone else helps them get their light back. It doesnt work in eden tho because eden is so dark that it can just bypass the stone entirely!
of course, some skykids have a more sensitive petrification response than others- some will turn to stone at the last minute, some start to statueify wherever they're too low on light to fly, some just sorta get little patches of stone if they lose light at all... and some have it as a stress response. which sucks. because when a skykid turns to stone, theyre awake for a while- usually depending on how much light they had left at the time. petrification as a stress response just means you could turn to stone with full light and be completely awake and aware but unable to do anything about it. it sucks.

I don't think skykids feel pain. they're not biological beings so don't got nervous systems. that's why they can crash into solid objects and get up without a fuss. maybe the magic that composes them prevents them from cracking apart easily. so perhaps they don't feel aches and pain from exertion.

the exception being when they're afflicted by darkness or losing light. light is so integral to their being that they are keenly aware of the light they have in and around them. darkness taking light from them feels cold, like frostbite. their legs feel numb for a bit after wading through dark water and stings as they recharge. krill attacks is like being stabbed with an icicle. as seen in game, they shiver in the Forest rain. when giving away winged light in Eden, they bend over as though in pain (which is the hardest part of Eden for me). petrification for them feels like being frozen solid, the cold overwhelming them.

Not really extinguish, more like their light decides not to flow through their extremities and represses into their core to the point that they lose control of their body and essentially faint

It's not physically painful but their eyes turn void black (if they're not maskless) when it happens and they can fall over and break their shell when they lose control, but they don't feel it until they wake up with the injury

Its basically the skykid equivalent of getting bruises just from existing. theyll fall off eventually, its not a huge deal, sometimes skykids will pick the pebbles off eachother if theyre sitting together

I have a theory... That sky kids giving a friend candle is like putting a tracking device on another skykid both ways. You can sense and locate them and they can sense you. The more candles shared the stronger this connection between you gets until you can finally understand each other. This also extends to accepting physical contact (high fives/hugs/handshakes etc)

What were tools and weapons made from in the Sky universe ? Were they only stone or was there a mineral resembling iron, a steel for example ?

It's debated; going off the sound they make when we land on them, we can theorize pots are made of earthlike materials such as clay, bells seem to be made of metal, and some buildings could be made of stone. What exactly is unclear though, but the Boneyard in Forest (Tearful Light Miner memory) and the Treasure Reef (second Abyss quest & nearby mural) in the Wasteland show us that ancestors had mines, so it's possible they found metal as well as dark stone.
Some of us here had interesting theories about things being petrified, as one can notice some items such as the ones in the Assembly treehouse of the Brook in Forest and the labyrinth in the Valley temple seem to be made of stone despite looking like lanterns, ladders and even mushrooms !

I think that you can see Rallying Thrillseeker and Chill Sunbather coming from the Sanctuary Islands tunnel, and Apologetic Lumberjack, Hide n Seek Pioneer and who I think might be Hairtousle Teen coming from the Forest Caves tunnel.

In some cutscenes from the Season of Dreams, especially the one where the skater girl gets their phoenix costume, you can see some basegame Valley spirits, along with the Troupe Juggler from the Season of Rhythm !

basically, my theory is that the krill were made by the spirits in the wasteland to defend eden. it would explain why all of the temples have those huge pipes. also, the krill have a tractor beam and when they pass over you, they sound inherently mechanical. my theory is that the spirits in wasteland were using power diamonds on whales to make krill as passive defenders, which at first was going well, until something went wrong and the krill went rogue.

I know there’s that Venn diagram in Zhao’s concepts that places skykids between light and dark beings. I don’t believe it’s still relevant. Also I’m not entirely sure what Zhao was basing those categories on.

For instance, Zhao categorizes ancestors and Elders are dark, but both of them in Live presently have light. Sure, their ratio of light to non-light material isn’t as pure as it is for most light creatures, yet they still have light and are presently tied to the light and return to the Light of Orbit.

Darkness in the present game appears to be a force in it of itself that consumes and hold onto light. Darkness does not run on light, it extinguishes it. How could the Elders and ancestors be dark beings if they have innate inner light and flourish rather than destroy the light around them?

As you said, having a physical body does not make one a dark being. It may just be neutral. Having a physical body made of non-light materials doesn’t make something not a being of light. As long as they have light, they are a being of light.

What’s happening in limbo is incredibly debatable. At most, that is just the extinguished look skykids take when their flame goes out. It isn’t clear what the white kid is in relation to them.

Even when we lose our flame and are still alive, we still have bits of light shining through (chest light). When we lose that… we die, which is what happens in this image here. We hug the light to be restored.

Death isn’t permanent for us; we can always come back if given light. However, if completely deprived of it, we can’t function at all. If we die whenever we just have darkness and can’t do anything with just it, we’re probably not beings of darkness as well — or at least, we don’t have enough of it to function at all. It’d be like 99% light and 1% darkness.

Also, considering how much light is inside us, wouldn’t the sheer force of our inner light burn away any darkness inside us? They’d be incompatible

When a candle burns out, it does not become a dark object. Smoke slowly billows up from where the flame was moments ago. Melted wax and fallen ashes of the wick pool together in a warm puddle in the candlestick. The scent, the memory, of the candle lingers after its death. None of these are the light candle, but rather a shadow of where it once was. What remains of the candle can be collected, merged with another, and become a new, whole candle. I think of Orbit like that. The body we see is simply a shadow, a pile of ashes and wax droplets held together by the wisp of smoke. Besides, we technically left our bodies in Eden, and this Orbit form isn’t quite our own, but rather a shell and a shadow of what it once was. It’s only when we’re scooped up and combined with the glow boy that we are reignited. Just like a normal candle

okay so my opinion on the lore is we are a blue light that had formed a body !! we created a small gem (the circle on the outfit u start out in !) around 'us' (us being the blue light!) and we form a body made from light ! a projection of shorts!! which is why krills try to attack us cause we are light, our entire body!! it also means when traveling spirits come, to me instead of buying their clothes, what we do is give them candles and in return (the light that happens when u trade candles or hearts for something !) we learn how to make our body/light form the same thing!!

The krill charge at light they can consume, in doing so extinguishing said light. krill are never found in places with ambient light they cannot consume, such as direct sunlight. So dark creatures seem to experience some innate repulsion to light that overwhelms their hunger for it. Consider the leviathan — it was eating light creatures and even ate skykids, but once the spirit/upgrade manta had a burst of light, the leviathan spat everything out.

Dark crystals don’t seem to store light, simply acting as a means to turn light into power, in doing so using up light, much akin to extinguishing light. While I agree that darkness as a force can hold onto light, it consumes it and doesn’t reliably hold it for long. Consider the gates in Forest that close soon after removing ones flame.

Personally I think Tyrian purple’s heavy associations with wealth and prosperity is the main reason it’s in the temple, because. [gestures vaguely at the entire valley realm]. It does fit incredibly well for being in between blue and red, what I’m saying is that we shouldn’t be like “ohhh since red is more prominent in this shade that means the red twin was more powerful” or whatever

I think it may be red- the banners. Im looking at the colour using the firework wand- and it seems red more red than purple at all-

Keep in mind that the firework wand seems to be emitting strong yellow light, which would change the color. Just looking at how much warmer toned the stones in the back are compared to their normal color

I know firsthand how much different colors of light/shadow can visually alter a base color, I’m trying to think of how we’d be able to see it well in these conditions

Theres no clear way to tell in such eerie lighting- even our trails seem red-

Yes, there is a wierd thing that can happen with certain colors(for example the color of that white and gold, black and blue dress)where, under certain lighting or backgrounds, they are a completely different color. I believe it has something to do with the amount of yellow and blue there is( though those moght be the wrong colors)

That is was done on putpose by TGC probably because it looks nicer with how vibrant the sunset is in the temple. They do this in other places too.

Here’s a pretty good demonstration of how lighting and shading would alter the base to such extreme levels. I think I got the colors pretty close to the ones displayed in the picture
