Since it's been going on that the Valley Elders have prosthetic arms I did a bit of exploring and found out that the narcissistic spirit at Starlight desert has the same 'arm' as them. So I believe these are like paddings on their respective arms since they seem to be used a lot of time and they need protection.

On a serious note, I like to think that they would be lanky. The merged Valley Elders outfit could have something like a blend of a warrior's armor and a commoner's outfit. I think they could be axe-wielding too because I like to think that their paddles are just the two blades of a two-sided axe split in half and also because of the axes that Yeti has in his cave. If the axes aren't for fighting or chopping, then they could be ornamental and would be somewhat of a homage to the Valley Elder/s

My sister and I agreed to the conclusion that Home is what remains of Earth, or the landmass anyways. If you noticed that tere aren't any land for miles and miles. And the concept arts did indicate that it is Earth and it is flooded--yes climate change. It gives you the impression of how long ago has passed to get to this point of gameplay. Any land structures we have are connection to realms via the doors. 🤔💭

yes, it was a collaboration with the little prince. i think because the spirits were inspired but not directly copied from the book, that they will return as traveling spirits like any other. since the quests (albeit changed - the prince no longer looks the same as when the season was active) and starlight desert are still available after the season ended, i have no doubt that they will return ^__^

it's thought that the rain in Forest is diluted with darkness, hence why it drains your light but other bodies of nonpolluted freshwater don't. think of it akin to acid rain

hm. maybe the seawater in ex, prairie is purified due to the amount of light creatures that live there? for example in forest there isn't as big of a manta population as in prairie so the water could get toxic? could also be a reason why abyss area water doesn't hurt, due to the amount of light fish there is!

And the light fish does kind of make sense as well. I guess the trees and fog covering the place from sunlight makes it harder for light-related creatures to move around as well.

Proposal: What if, when light creatures die, they turn into this essence that, as in my theory as to why the forest rain is hurtful, clears up water? Like, think of it as chlorine for now- a pool is all dirty and disgusting = wasteland water – you put in a lot of chlorine (=light creature essence) and wait a day or two and BOOM! pool is clear = water is less toxic. and in prairie, this immense amount of essence left by deceased light creatures, because there are so many in the first place, supports their ecosystem for many decades to come and the abyss area water stays clean aswell because of fishing!

Probably not. the ancestors couldn’t fly, capes seem to be a purely decorative attire. The most spirits fly is when they dematerialize into a sparkle to go to Elder temples or to ascend.

I was kinda up in the air about posting this here instead of #sky-fanart-sketches-and-art-chat , but I think it fits better here just bc we talk about manta variants/biology a lot and this was inspired by a convo here :-)

So, here is my sketch interpretation of a manta used specifically for racing. Kinda like how the wooly manta would be used specifically for wool, they would be specifically for valley races. I based their anatomy a Lot off peregrine falcons, because I wanted them to 1) be able to soar and 2) dive really fast. I also put extra effort into making them look cool in ways that didn’t require me to sacrifice speed, hence the ornate designs and feather frill. Because, let’s be real, racing mantas would HAVE to look cool.

Here’s a short list of things I added:

• Body covered in small, soft feathers to keep them warm
• Wings covered in feathers to aid in lift and keep them warm as well - shaped like falcon wings
• Feathered, fan shaped tail aids in soaring. An ancestor made sail is attached to the back that can be spread out/folded in, allowing for the soaring boost while also helping navigate sharp turns and right areas.
• Harness along chest and back attaches to sail and keeps it in place
• Bridle and reins so that it can be directly guided by the rider easier

Performance guide is so much more reactive than I anticipated, with their cheering on the spirits and you during the quest, and spirit card makes it look like they are kind of emotional ("💔 Can’t let go of that review from last year") so I like to think they are intimidating only in looks and are actually quite approachable.
If Rhythm questgiver is a bit more on the calm side, the maybe Performance questgiver is the jolly sibling

They pretend they're proper but I bet they still climb stairs on all 4 when no one is looking.

I mean, if their clothing in spirit form is made of light, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to change it, but we don't see spirits changing their outfits, so who knows if they're able to change their appearance at will or not or if it takes some degree of effort.

there's a trope/thought(?) that one's spiritual form is a manifestation of your soul and personality, a reflection of your self. the rules around that vary a lot – could be a reflection of how you lived, your true self you couldn't express in a mortal form, whatever.

it's really unclear what rules Sky operates under. though when I think about spirit memories, their appearance in their memories is always the same as their spirit.

about the water prophet - i looked into it and didn't see any similar looking turtles with the little tuft at the end of the cape (side note: do not google "furry turtle". mistake on my end) but i still do think that it is mostly inspired by a turtle, but maybe another animal as well? which either means there's a weird kind of like. mix of a turtle and another animal that actually existed in the sky kingdom or the water prophet couldn't decide on their fursona.

In Vault, we see terms such as “acolyte” which implies either a teacher/student or master/apprentice relationship, which would technically be school. Along the same vein, the water/earth/air/fire prophets taught their disciplines to others, which is another form of schooling. If they do have a western style school, my guess is that it existed in Valley and the realms beyond

I like discussing the elemental lights’ powers and loopholes and whatnot, because they get underestimated despite how scary they are. Here’s another one:

If ancestors were really similar to humans in terms of makeup, forest elder could probably use blue light to control them similar to how I mentioned orange light works, because they’re mostly water. If they work like skykids, the ability to control them goes to wasteland elder instead.

Alternatively, I have a Theiry that blue light doesn’t control water, but helps purify it instead. This doesn’t help much, though, because it still means that, if ancestors were more human, you could point at someone and say “purify their blood into pure water” and also insta kill them

You can use cyan light to steal all the air from around them, suffocating them, or manipulate air pressure and crush them to death. Use purple light to just manifest an object inside someone’s lungs, or a piece of darkstone inside a light creature. And so on

My personal take on the lights is that they can't necessarily control things(it gets a bit iffy with purple light) but instead they use their magic along with the resources they find or detect around them to essentially "create" things or purify other things. Like blue could use the hydrogen and oxygen atoms in the air to make H2O and create water. Or it can separate the water from excess molecules like darkness.

They're young, they have a big imagination, they think they're a big important main character, all those things that kids just do that could effect how the story is shown. Like, surely the elders didn't all gather in the vault elder's Purgatory™️just to say thanks to this one specific kid out of the hundreds that pass through their temples every day. i headcanon that the way skykids turn to stone in Eden isn’t just an Eden thing- It’s sort of... a built in defence mechanism? You see, normally what would happen is that, when they get critically low on light- Lower than they're able to exaust themselves on their own through flight, meaning something would have to be actively draining their light- A skykid will turn to stone to protect the rest of their light, sort of like how a possum plays dead or a turtle hides in its shell. Theyll stay like that for a while, usually either until someone comes along and helps restore their light, or until their light returns on its own- Since they're completely petrified, no light can (usually) get out, meaning itll keep building up until they're at a safe level again. It's a completely involuntary response, though, so its probably terrifying when it does happen.
Now, Eden is a different story. The darkness in Eden is impossibly thick, almost tangible, and this... messes up their petrification response. the darkness can pierce the stone like it wasn’t there, meaning that a skykid that turns to stone in Eden will just die. But that's the exception, not the rule, and it usually works very well.

and that is my headcanon about why skykids turn to stone in eden because i like thinking about how fictional species work and the statue thing was really interesting to me

Got a spirit theory (pardon me if there is any spelling mistakes i’m dyslexic)

Maybe the spirits are the other childrens of light who got stuck in a limbo after eden and can only get in contact with the mortal world when they recently die, get summoned or have their light (the blue floating thing forgot the name,) placed in some kind of tombstone. Like when an event happens it’s their memories we unlock to get in contact with them or when a TS comes they either spawn next to something that symbolisez them or what concept they’re in or get summon on the stone thingy that is covered by water

The Eden Elder is believed to be Resh and Alef, the King and the Sky Prince respectively.
These characters were features in early concepts for the game, during Light Awaits, though upon the global release (Sky: Children of the Light), the focus of the story line changed.

While the King can no longer be saved, he is not gone from the world of Sky. According to dev quotes, these character are present in the game in another form.

The focus of the current lore in the game seems to be more about the relationship of the spirits and the skykids saving them instead of the skykids meeting the elders and Sky inhabitants (spirits)

The spirits are the ghosts of the Ancestors that are not able to pass on to the after life.
The skykid save them and help them do so, while spirits stay to help the skykid in return.

I am not dismissing your idea entirely though, seeing I am not certain about the possibility of an ancestors can be a skykid, or a skykid can become an ancestor.
The ancestors could have been children at some point in their lives, but the age they appear to us might be an indicator that some of them died young. For instance the Abyss questgiver is young, and the group from season of Assembly are the youngest group of ancestors we have seen so far.

Most importantly, it would be the purpose of the character.
If they are part of a story, then it is the character arc and development you would need to focus on to help drive the plot.
If it is roleplay dedicated, then leave room for the character to grow as you interact with other people through the character.
If it is a personal project, then it could be anything.

no worries.
I do something similar to that just for fun with my ingame skykid.
While the majority of the skykid is just projecting my personality through the player character. I like to keep a few tidbits as canon lore for the character.

Just as an example, the skykid would commonly wear animal masks (preferably a bird mask) with the bird call to match. This just ties into the character being a flyer. As for the adventurous part, the skykid goes to Eden often and would not shy away from danger. That does not mean they are fearless though as they would voice their concerns at times.
The skykid is also nomadic because they enjoy exploring the regions and would not like to be tied to one place to return to each time.

I like to think of the skykid us players get to play as, help players express themselves in a way that they might have had trouble doing so irl, before playing the game. They help build confidence in meeting friends, and learning how to deal with situations.
The game is emotional and uses that theme to drive the plot.

Perhaps since the majority of the creatures in sky are aquatic animals, including land animals would stand out.

At least in the game, we can include the turtle now as a 4 legged creature.

I have a little theory in my head that i believe, it involves the first sentence-ish of @stone portal 's beautiful theory- Mine here is that spirits were essentially ancestors which never got the chance to make the pilgrimage to eden ( which i believe is was a temple ), and died during the explosion ( or after due to explosion suffering aftereffects.). Hence these ancestors ( with many of them dying out altogether due to not having a strong connection to the land- ill explain this if you'd like ) left behind their memories and abandoned their bodies, becoming the spirits we see today. ( Forgive me for me pinging you- dunno )

It’s believed that he can’t be saved by or from anything- no Elder, Skykid, or creature can save him. A theory is that the King became a part of the Eden Storm

The theory goes according to the old lore (Light Awaits), that there was an ark of spirits and elders trying to get away from corrupted creatures attacking them. There was an explosion and then came the restless and chaotic Storm.

Since the current lore (Children of the Light) has deviated from that plot, it is uncertain what has changed and what remained.

Not exactly, unfortunately. We can only infer. if most creatures die, they simply ascend to Orbit. Since we can’t find any evidence of the King in Orbit, it’s assumed they’re still in the Sky world, as the Storm.

Since we never see his spirit, one can only thoerise that his spirit could be somewhere else.

Vela has made a compelling observation that the wreck at the very top of the mountain, but under the floating part of the castle, is the fable Eden Ark.

While the season of Enchantment introduced a location called the Forgotten ark, it is unclear if this vessel would be either part of the fleet, or perhaps a representation of what happened to the other flying ships of its class.

While being objective and open not theories about the winged light, there is very little solid evidence about them.
There seems to be no pattern, rhyme or reason to where they appear of why. Yet they are vital to the core plot of helping the skykid in their journey of saving more spirits and the statues in Eden.

What is certain, all of them appear as children, have no cape, hair, or accessories, wear standard skykid clothing, may take on different poses (though this is mostly apparent in Eden) and are likely made of stardust based on the starry form that remains in their place and the twinkling sound the make.

I suspect they might have differing heights, though I may be wrong as most encounters with them are of consistent heights, albeit it being they are a bit smaller than a standard skykid.

Found the image that I meant to attach to the reference to the King's body in Eden. This also mentions the Prince being here as well.
The mention, Bird of Light, is another name for Megabird.
While there are theories implying these characters are one and the same, or two entities.
it is uncertain if in the current lore, there is in fact a King and a Prince to meet in the game.

Adding to the king in Eden part, there was someone that managed to find out that in the game files, there name for the sound/music playing in the void/limbo state in Eden, where you hug the light kid, is called King Hug.

The first link you shared is Yui’s artwork! Theyre all the pen and ink drawing style. Best source i can grab at the moment is this art piece (which is the same style) which is done by Yui Tanabe who is the lead artist of Sky https://www.thatskyshop.com/blogs/designer-insight/ocean-meets-sky-canvas-bag

ok, had to look up a few things.
The styles are similar and the drawing was collaged (combined) with other drawings with varying art styles.

It is possible that different artists' works were combined with Tom's drawings on his website. Though I had trouble finding Yui Tanabe's work posted online to compare directly.

TLDR; I was wrong to assume every drawing on Tom Zhao's website was his own. I do hope we can find out who were the artists that made these drawings, seeing if not every single one was not done by one artist and credited accordingly.

I have found that the 7 worlds represent the realms in Tibetan Book of the Dead, and which are which is based on colours but also the Elders and themes, these represent the remedies for those realms... so that Isle = human realm - blue but also the elder has the staff, so does the buddha of human realm; Prairie = deva realm (beauty, all is well, flowers, floating palaces); forest = hungry spirits (water kills you, shivering); Valley= skygoers' realm (they climb towards sky, hermit is a practitioner, carnevalism,) GW = asuras (green, battle), Vault = animals (buddha of that realm reads books + remedy colour is blue), Eden = hell realm

There was a theory ( most likely on reddit but probably wouldve been mentioned on discord) that the king built the enchantment ark to take his followers along with him to megabird ( forgive me if this is incorrect ). The little white figure we see before the orbit pathway is called king hug ( i once again might be incorrect ). Perhaps the king still wanted all his followers to go to megabird. hence destroying himself using ounces of power to send us up into orbit. Maintaining the look of a white skykid, because he is pure. ( im sorry if this is incorrect )

TGC actually did state in the 2nd anniversary live stream that they want to find a way to bring back the previous season ults, but its just teally difficult to find the balance between veterans who already have it and new players who want it and don’t have it. Though at the moment I wouldn’t expect to see any return for A WHILE.

I’ll post this in the fanart sketches channel in a minute, I just wanted to share this concept here first. I mean, this is the first place I shared some of my concepts at, so I thought some of you would enjoy it. Now I need to explain them.
NOTE: The quality in this photo is worse than the real picture. There are a fair amount of details that you cannot see here.

Image 1. A massive sea of clouds where a once highly populated big prairie village lay. Each house is close to 15 or so laying skids apart(most likely more), the area is so massive, you’ll likly be discovering new things months later.

Image 2. An area of isle that hasn’t been seen in maybe a century or so due to a cloud flood(blockage)that has stubbornly decided to stay. Traces of old isle tradition remain intact, but feels kinda off inside this desert.(its pretty much the land forms from the background of old isle from the switch trailer)

Image 3. The Twilight Dunes, an morbid, lifeless desert and massive graveyard. A place where memories are repressed and killed. Full of horrors that shouldn’t be there, or sometimes even exist. The sands reflect blue light into your eyes, with a slight hint of purple alongside it.

Image 4. A spire from The King’s grand castle in eden, that has become exposed to the light and is at last unaffected by the storm. While none of the damage can be undone, life has a chance to once again take root within these soils
NOTE: Eden spire is MUCH bigger than it may seem

I actually see the flight crew being really peaceful and avoiding conflicts, but it would be a huge mistake to see that as weakness. The Wind Paths managed to stay a bastion of light in the face of the storm after all...

As you noticed, it seems skykids’ skin changes color depending on what they’re wearing, though it’s always a dark color. I’m thinking that whatever color light their outfits project as can glow upon their dark skin, making it take on the hue of their outfits but not actually changing the color of their skin.

I’m thinking that the extinguished look — dark gray — may be the true color of their skin

I’m thinking something similar may happen with their hair. It’s white but can easily appear to change color by the glow of other colored objects.

Erythrism (excessive red coloring) or xanthochromism (excessive yellow coloring) maybe? It would be cool to see ancestors/skykids with color mutations, but it might just be the lighting
