ok I will explain instead then . ok so @ocean saddle the gist of the headcanon is that those statues summon the elders or have a connection to them somehow, hence why they’re in vault (cutscene where elders get summoned) and were in orbit castle for same purpose.

ALTERNATIVELY, a headcanon of mine that I just remembered is relevant here is that the place we die in pnr and part of where that statue is, was the former top floor of vault and the vault temple just got moved down later.

Unfortunately we don’t have too much info on how these statues work but here are some ideas

disclaimer: so part of this is headcanon
as Salem explained, the statues seem tied to the Elders. meditating in front of them brings you to their pocket dimensions. after the Vault Elder's cutscene, the rest of the Elders join you, so the circular ring of Elder altars seems to correlate with multiple Elders in that pocket dimension.

note that the altars are around the Vault Elder's statue. perhaps the Vault Elder held some importance than being a mere co-ruler, perhaps being the original Eden Elder before Chosen One / king stole the show. or perhaps the arrangement gives them the ability to summmon the other Elders into their pocket dimension.

I have this (unrefined) headcannon that what we see during our ascent is Sky getting destroyed in the storm. Kinda like "life flashing before your eyes".

part of it may be that the Vault is underground inside the Eden mountain. it would not be visible from outside Wasteland Elder temple.

although there's a theory that the Vault was made later in the kingdom's history. Salem's headcanon takes that the beam of light over Eden was triggered by the Chosen One could've charged inside the mountain, destroying the rock and leaving a vertical tunnel that would be the scaffolding for the Vault

I'm very not partial to sudden unexplained dream sequences "it's not real" tropes and all that, so I'm inclined against them. in this case, it doesn't make sense to me – granted we transition from soaring above stormlock to that whole ascent, which makes the geography unclear. there is at least something up ahead that is obscured by the Eden diamond.

it would also be important for an Eden Elder or the king to be able to summon or access all the Elders, so perhaps that ring of altars was made for their purposes.

the path to the ascent also is in ruin, so if it were a flashback to what couldn't be saved, wouldn't it look not as destroyed?

I can't really get behind everything requiring a physical presence because meditation is an important part of Sky. The headscape or whatever you want to call it holds importance – it's how we meet the Elders and how we learnt to swim. So I don't want to discount things happening inside a Skykid's head on the principle that everything should have a physical presence.

Perhaps the presence of all the elder statues in vault is to foreshadow the cutscene and Eden ? Cos I know that the room you're in after the vault cutscene ends doesn't have a single altar, so maybe those were a part of the elder's memory ?

Basically the "real" Vault – the realm not influenced by the Elder's magic – is the tiny room we see after the full cutscene (is what I think)

I hoped the Lightseekers had taken place on as a springtime, instead it started in September (fall) 2019. Soo that all seasons had a meaningful period assigned to each.

Meanwhile Rhythm (which during Sky Light Awaits was a drafted Winter Season) was the definitively released between winter-spring of 2020

Then how about Flight? Have someone in lorechat figured why and how a peaceful season like that could ve themed to the withering fall ? 🤔

I've been thinking, and I think Megabird is actually something like Ponyo's mother. As in makes up the sky itself in a way and swims under the water in Orbit. It would be a pretty solid theory considering how the office lake light creatures are spinning in water and not in the sky like most other light creatures. Cause the office lake light creatures are pretty reminiscent of murals and said creatures in there are usually found in orbit or smth
But I do like the headcanon that Orbit isn't as it seems, that the not only is the sky not the limit, but that the ocean below is also deeper. Especially with season of Abyss cause that makes it feel like there's stuff underneath the waters that we haven't explored yet, including Orbit's water.
Maybe our Sky kid just hasn't experienced true death or so and can't go under Orbit's water. Who knows.

Well you see, in Ponyo, Granmammare (ponyo's mother) is the sea herself. So she's beeg lady. I'm thinking Megabird could be something like that too! Most people would only be able to touch or see the surface but then the spirits would be like the fishies in the sea, being with megabird and experiencing grace and peace underneath the surface

Orbit seems like a far away place in outer space, almost how Heaven is depicted and at times theorised to be a separate dimension.

the use of water as the floor in Orbit may symbolically imply the place is Holy and pure.
In Genesis, the story of creation tells of God moving over water, creating the heavens, the earth, the plants and animals; and lastly creating mankind to live in paradise, the garden of Eden.

When mankind disobeyed, they were cast out of the garden and had to live out their mortal lives and the knowledge they gained from the forbidden fruit.

Apologies for the tangent, back to the topic:
The water mural is unique and poses interesting questions regarding the lore. It is near the office portal, which is established to be non-canon, yet Vault is.

I like to think that the mural being at the edge of what is canon and what is not, jmplies that the King and Megabird (the figures in the mural) are the most distant and elusive characters in the Sky lore.
Which partly lines up with the more powerful beings tend to be harder to come by in the game, and them being the divine beings of the Sky world.

I think that's especially true with how this specific symbol in the water mural looks reminiscent of the king from concept arts. So the king and megabird do exist, but they arent as close to the plane of reality that the sky kids reside in.

When walking toward the rebirth door, the spirits pop out of the watery surface beside our starry path. Yes we can walk on it, but we can’t disappear into like they do. Perhaps under those waters is the Light and Orbit is merely the surface. If we could dive under the waves, we would be submerged into the Light.
As for why we can’t go under the waves, not sure. I do like your idea that because skykids haven’t experienced “true” death they can’t go in. I’ve been thinking that since skykids’ mission is incomplete — there are more spirits to be saved — that we are reborn and can’t reunite with the Light completely.

I do like to think that touching the water briefly connects one to the Light.

I like to think that ever having the waves touch you, you can hear people within the Light whispering to you or get a taste of their memories

Water can also be thematically tied to connection and universiality. Water is everywhere, found in even the most remote places, and has theoretically been all over the upper crust of the planet thanks to the water cycle (powered by the heat of the sun, a star). All the mass of water has remained on Earth ever since it’s been here. Ancient organisms and species long extinct have had the same water you have, in a way connecting you with the past and future beings to you. So to me the Office mural being projected in water seems to reference that.

Water has been useful for travel, sailing over it brings people and things across great distances to far off lands, for better or for worse. Black American arts often features a sentiment of kalunga

If you fly/flap too fast against a windwall you get pushed away. But if you fly slow and with a gentle swipe up before you touch it you get pushed up smoothly

I found out this technique last year DoBloom because that tree was solid and a perfect ramp to take off and fly way up high up ( SOLO or in group) and without even using one flap/wedge

Im a bit sad the bloom tree is not in HomeSpace. I can fly up high using one flap now and hoped to repeat that kind of smooth take off

The mythology discussion made me realize that orbit reminds me quite a bit of the concept of heaven portrayed in the Divine Comedy. Where space and heaven are the same thing, and everything is brightly glowing and orbiting around a central brightest point (in the Paradiso that point is God, which I don’t think applies in sky but it’s interesting)
I still need to actually read the Divine Comedy, I have it around here somewhere but I haven’t gotten around to it. But based on what I’ve read about it, the shot of orbit we first see where it’s too bright to make out details could potentially match up

yeah, I think it’d be a real place, but I don’t think the ancestors would’ve had any access to it. the portal carvings r in both isle and eden, maybe they held some symbolic meaning?

I would suggest that they link to the gates you pass through in some of the realms, but forest is the one that has one at the very beginning and the forest gate on the carving doesn’t look like the regular ones at all

I think the darkness particles are carried with the wind, and since the wind in those places isn’t nearly as strong enough as it is in Eden, it doesn’t really affect as as much.

Yeah, I think that’s it. Wasteland is dangerous, but you really have to travel a bit to find direct danger. Eden, however, doesn’t care, and will beat at you every step of the journey no matter where you are.

I like to think the elders hold back the storm while we fix what we can, so wasteland being protected by 2 elders if you count Vault, it is hostile but not as lethal as Eden.

I find Wasteland isn’t as dangerous due to its distance from the center of the Storm. Eden becomes more dangerous the closer to the red diamond you go, especially given the red darkstone rain

Wasteland is dangerous if you don't know the terrain well (moths) or if you're reckless, but it's doable even when you're tired.
Eden needs you to observe and know the rythm of rock rains and enough luck to not be repeatedly knocked down when you get hit.

There's this common belief that ghosts are dead people who haven't been able to cross over because there was something in life they couldn't do. So they haunt places and possess people. (These are not my personal beliefs.)
To free ghosts, it becomes the job of the living to find out what the ghost is missing and return it to them - do it for them, etc. And then they can be free of the limbo.

we don't know how far darkness spread in the initial stages of the Storm, if it ever receded or continues to grow. do consider that there are darkness plants on the bells in the Prairie village just below the Elder temple

My lore theory: A long time ago, before the spirits discovered eden, they lived happy lives. Prairie was very peaceful, isle was mostly deserted. Forest had no rain, valley hosted races charging candles for admission and got their food and supplies from wasteland, which was a trading post. Vault was like the community library. Then, they discovered eden. And many moved there. It was paradise for a while; the biggest city they had. The king used the crystal to power everything and his castle was humongous. Then, he got greedy. He used the crystal’s power for his own gain and benefit. However, he was corrupting the crystal as well and soon it blew up. It cast shards of itself all over the realm, blew boulders from their place and started a huge storm. Everything became uninhabitable and the darkness took over the realm. The darkness spread to wasteland, where a huge war was held. Mantas we’re corrupted and turned into krill. Butterflies turned into crabs. The spirits lost the war, but in their last moments, sealed the corrupted realms off, allowing the others to live safely. However, the elders saw a dark future. They called upon the start for help, and the stars sent us. However, minimal amounts of darkness leaked into the other realms, putting crabs into prairie and starting the poison rain in forest. Valley was unaffected, but since they lived on a cold mountain, they got their food from elsewhere (wasteland) and after wasteland collapsed, they starved. Isle was not affected in any way, being the farthest portal from eden. Others tried to restore light, but didn’t make it. So now we have to return their light to them. Every time we go to eden, the crystal’s dark energy drains and it screams in pain. When we ascend spirits, we allow them to return to the stars to have a peaceful afterlife.

Did you call them all down, or just 1 or 2? Was Forest Elder one of them?

All of them, but research was simple, call down forest elder, run back to the start skipping the cutscene and the diamond assembles

Now I wonder what other elder assets assemble around orbit....
