The water mural is in Vault, which means if the realms were following a story line, the factory would be in Eden, or the King backtracked.

That and the images provided and linked are not in the game currently.
They were spotted in Dawn and Abyss, but since these are not in the live game, they are now just lose threads from the old lore that has yet been woven into the current game's lore.

They wouldn't need to cool themselves off, wouldn't have water in them to do so (taking into account if a skykid does not go into contact with water for a long time), and even if they do, it would probably be a light particle (based on emotes).

in the last dev livestream on Abyss, they said that the oceans are realms of darkness. given that darkness is a force that consumes and holds onto light, it would be apt to say that Cannoneer's spirit didn't drown in water but drown in darkness. they're dead, no biological functions, but they are a being of light. darkness can extinguish beings of light (see: skykids) or petrify them (see: statues of ancestor spirits) so perhaps Cannoneer, deep in the ocean far from light, was drowning in darkness.

but seriously, there's literally just scraps of evidence hinting toward what winged light are. they weren't present in Light Awaits (you lost emotes instead). devs have been silent on them. the only evidence we got is a quote from a lost livestream that calls them "imprints of the children of the light."

I like to think they're shards of the eden elder, deliberately scattered to help us, personally.
But they're also scattered heavily along our beaten path and in places kids would go if they explored with curiosity, so they really might be memories of the other kids

Winged light is like extra power to skykids. They only need their flame to function, but winged light is an addendum that grants them a new ability. Perhaps it’s presence wasn’t intended as a power-up, but once skykids became plentiful, they were made to be or came to be able to utilize winged light as a power-up, whether to fly at all or the strengthen our cape.

Since winged light are imprints they are merely the impression of skykids, not skykids converted into something else but something their presence has left behind. One cannot become winged light, but one or more skykids do make them by just existing in the world in addition to some other factor.

One theory suggests they appear where many skykids have been and coalesce into winged light, like creating a well-treaded path in the woods by many footsteps — hence why they appear in the same spots. In-game they may be in the same spot for gameplay accessibility but in-universe they could land anywhere.

We do know that winged light did not exist before skykids existed because they are never depicted in murals or spirit memories

Taking a break from nostalgia running- I think the capes (and maybe the sky kids hair) are customizable concentrated streams light that the sky kids can wield.

Whether or not it comes from them (referring to the sky kids being sentient shells/husks that carry light within them), these two things don’t leave shadows. What wouldn’t leave a shadow in the light? More light >:D

This would also cover the dull glow that at least most capes give off on the sands of the GW/dark areas (where it’s the most noticeable)

But the mask isnt a part of the model, you can see it on flight spirits having the basic mask, but most sedentary (non-seasonal) spirits dont have it.

The regular mask thing was ultimately scrapped anyway, but I recall ktjn saying some spirits may share cosmetics (though the convo was about DoR guide being Rallying Thrillseeker so take that with a grain of sald ) so I wouldn't necessarily agree, since by that logic, we got a mega family with Rhythm QG, Dreams QG and some "days of" guides.

Do they have like the sky version of elemental superpowers? Can they just summon the orbs at will? If so why did the orbs get knocked out of the boat and thrown everywhere during the crash — I have many question

I went on light mode to check, and it does appear to be maroon. The glow’s highest opacity is closest to the inside, which is where I colorpicked, so it is probably just maroon and - if it is any brighter - isn’t brighter by much.

The glow dictating chronology is a BIG maybe. It fits for some seasons, but it’s really hard to imagine sanctuary and prophecy taking place that late. I don’t think it’s vibes either, or dreams and performance would be right next to each other, as well as rhyhtm probably being closer to them as well.

Out of curiosity, what’s everyone’s headcanons on how skykids honk? I doubt they have traditional vocal chords, especially because they never seem to produce any sounds more complex than that.

Since honking produces an expanding circle of lgiht when you do it, my idea is that it’s a sudden contraction and expansion of our inner light, which produces sound waves… somehow. It would explain why deep calling requires so much efofrt

But, like, to me, the spirits are based off what the elders could be but are not. The obsessed scholar is a stand in for vault, but Vault Elder pays attention to us and shares their knowledge. The soldier is depressed and hopeless, but Wasteland Elder doesn't give up. He displays his power for us and even when he feels weak, he gets his spark back because we're there to show him there is a future worth fighting for. Valley Elders screw around sure, but Valley was/is prosperous for everyone living there, and they were nice and played with us, instead of shooing us away. The Elders are the leaders because their vices are tempered

(Valley has rich and working class housing, but no sign of slums, for example)
• Slouching Soldier has completely given up. Wasteland Elder continues to be strong despite hardship, and even at his weakest, he continues to persevere for our future.

How I see it is that after Eden exploded, the Vault elders memories got spacey and distant. The vault is still very much real but just distorted. Very distorted

Stylistically in the game, the characters may not have mouths. Practically most of the games made by TGC has no mouths.
A probable reason for skykids, spirits, ancestors and elders to not have visible mouths could be a minimalistic feature that saves time animating mouths, giving facial expressions and lets the players imagine for themselves what the elder's facial expression could be.
This also applies to the eyes as they are simplistic, but yet expressive and still lets the player rely on their own interpretation of what the exact facial expression was.

I think it’s probably a form of telepathy. There may be different honks for each call but there are only so many, so obviously they can’t all mean different things, unless there’s come canon minuscule difference we can’t detect with our ears. So I think honking is one of their forms of communication, but it’s primarily telepathy.

Something i realized is that sky kids are not 100% pure light, they have darkness in them as well. A manta would die and dissapier if attacked by a krill, but a child would lose their light until finding another source. Maybe that because theyre fallen? the beggining cutscene show them descending and all. That could be a good thing, because they gain the ability to learn more things that other creatures cant, like deep diving or going to special places, but is also a weakness because since theyre not pure light, they are affected by the rain, while mantas are not

When a skykid dies, they lose their capes (the light they carry), limp for a moment, then turn into stone and blue sprite (similar to spirit fragments) leave the body.
This implies that skykid can carry light within them, have a stone like body (darkness) and have a soul that is so fragile that it would perish without any light to protect it.

I think it might have been a combined mining/research area for dark stones and holding dark creatures.

• if we are fragments of the king, I like to think we are either two halves hugging, or one old, darkened by time half hugging a new, younger and brighter half. Maybe the king embracing the prince as a euphemism for the old trusting the young with the future ?
• if we are made of both darkness and light, then maybe that scene represents how both are equal and should embrace the other, staying equal. Notice how the white figure is scaled to be the same size as you...
• if it's just us, then maybe the dark figure is simply us being exhausted, and accepting the help of someone else; the white figure could be a winged light we embrace to regain hope.

Heartbreaking concept. The entire flight to orbit takes place in the same space. After we help by restoring their light, the figure we hug pays us back by projecting what Eden used to look like to us, so we can see its former glory,

Stormlock stems from the old name of Eden, Storm.

When you enter Eden and pass the Point of No Return (PNR), you become storm locked. This means you cannot leave Eden (at least in the normal way) and must complete the realm, go to Orbit and be reborn before you are no longer storm locked.
The only way to go Home while Storm locked is to close and open the app. This includes the game crashing of your phone closing the app for any reason. When you log back into the game, you will be at Home. This is likely something the devs worked out when skykids lose connection to the server while storm locked. This also emphasises the importance of this leg of the journey for skykids, as it is something they have to finish what they started and the only part of the game that does this.

A stormlocked Home is interesting, though it is not much.
First off, none of the portal will be active, even the gat to Eden will be closed shut in this state. The only way to leave Home is to use the Return Shrine, where as the following text will draw attention to it.

I took it as going through a long underground tunnel to the elevator that reemerges above ground someplace far from the prairie village. applied the same thought from Vault 1st floor to Starlight Desert

there's so many clouds in that area. imagine if the clouds hadn't been cleared when the first skykids found the room and just got blown amok when the elevator ascended.

That could work also. I could see why the tunnel walking part would be cut out - it would be really annoying to have to traverse it. The way you enter into the elevator does seem to imply that there’s some parts of the journey that got cut out.

Based on the spirit memory there, the ceremonial worshiper and another spirit would appear there and reach out with their hands to the sky.

Assuming there are 8 spirits in total attending the ceremony, this may imply that the spirits in the age of Day (following the logic that each realm represented a stage of civilisation) worshiped the Megabird and/or the elders.

The reason for suggesting these things is based on the carving that resembles the megabird (the bird of Light) on the day temple entrance, and the statue in the ceremony area seems to be an interpretation of the elder's early design (I can elaborate on this if need be, I am keeping this short for the sake of brevity).

I pretty sure it's a combination of Radier's and Alasdair's answers! It makes the most sense given the general layout of the shrine at the elevator's peak and the fact that otherwise this would mean the elevators is capable of cannonocally teleporting people which would do all sorts of crazy nonsense

We as skykids just understand 8p emote as teamwork emote but for example with the last update Lightseekers with sapplings do a ritual (butterfly emote, tree hug and collecting its light) which is very similar to what Ceremony Whisperer does. Sooo maybe that cerimonial altar after the 8p puzzle is tied to Lightseekers

We as skykids could be misunderstanding many things, for example by imitating the deepbow a sky kid would most obviously bonk his head ( *ting* 🛎️ ) on the ground. And if the Woodcutter gave us a band aid 🩹 we would merrily go away thinking it's a cool cosmetics

Possibly splinter group that might be aware of what the journey truly means. That there was a higher authority than the elders themselves (the king and Megabird).
Even if this is very subtle, it is interesting to see how that hidden relationship shifts from a harmony to a strong focus on the King across the realms.

Looking to Journey, there is a similar shift as the travellers were true to the Light, but then lost sight of what is important and saw their own technology and achievements as more important, which lead to the civilisation falling into darkness and war and then ruin.
As a spiritual successor, Sky draws influence to the premise set by Journey with an ancient civilisation rising to prosperity, then falling into ruin, and after a long time past, the arrival of a traveller arrived that possessed the ability to fly and be reborn into a cycle of reliving the journey.
