I am Suspicious it is light powers. Switch trailer shows us light manipulation is a thing. Darkstone uses light like batteries so it has light inside it. Levitation time!

But in all seriousness, darkstone messing with gravity seems to be a common property of it. When put in stone boats it decreases their weight, letting them float on water [forgotten ark] or makes them levitate entirely. In valley’s citadel and vault, we see discs of it making orreries and platforms float. And so on

That’s true. It does seem to be a common Darkstone theme. Maybe it’s primary purpose was to control gravity, and eventually the spirits did some tinkering and realized they could use it for other stuff.

I made a theory back then that Praire is the central trading realm in the kingdom of sky. Which is why back then we had boats that could easily import and export goods throughout the realms prior to the apocalypse.

Krill are called Dark dragons, canonically.

It would be a stretch to go from a seal to a dragon.
That is what I believe, the game is open to interpretation, after all.

The guardian also was what trained me for krills, had seen some vids of journey before ever playing it and sky, so when I started on sky krills weren't a trouble even as a moth

If they do, then that is hidden under their clothes.

What is certain though is the child is either an enlightened ancestor (i.o.w. a first generation child of light), or they are a skykid with no cape.

Sky Kids also turn white and gray when they lose their flame which implies that Elders lack Light (or aren't "lit") for them to start showing their colors. A lack of Light doesn't equal to being connected to the Darkness. In a concept art that I saw, the Elders are classified as "Indifferent" , they don't possess Light like mantas, jellyfish, or Sky Kids but they're not associated with Darkness too, unlike the Dark Crabs, Krills, and all the other monsters out there

When you light those boxes, they fill up the diamond with light, but as you move to the next level, the diamond’s light disappears again. Also with all the other elder cutscenes it takes us to a place that is either not where we were when we started the cutscene or is slightly different.

I can definitely see extreme shock, but at least one elder would crack down on them if the trials actually had a steady mortality rate. I'd go for more that it could shatter someone's mind if they are just that under prepared. To this day, fire trial feels more like a punishment that I can't complete than a trial.

I have a very weird theory

So i was watching a video for my biology homework and i saw they gave an example of shelf fungi being a parasite to trees

Then i thought “hey, they look a lot like the fungi we see in sky”
Then I thought “could the light fungi be parasitic in sky as well?

Agreed on the dislike on the death take. Besides, it's a better lesson to teach if the trials offered mental damage rather than flat out death. It would teach people to real weight of being the Chosen One. That kind of lesson feels like ones the ancestors would be more willing to teach than 'lmao, another grave'. I can imagine the prophets being vague about the consequences for all new challengers to the trials. They could say they may die, but because that is the first weight of many for the trials as a whole.

Not only that, but it teaches those that may prove to be too rowdy for their own good, or too high of ego that whoever actually passes the trials shouldn't get any ridicule because they succeeded where the others failed, but to respect just what the Chosen One has to go through for the rest of them. After all, not everyone is going to start off liking a Chosen One that isn't them in a society like this. Cackling Cannoneer levels of spite are probably not all too uncommon in young ancestors.

But given that the murals depicted people dying as well as the elders being the ones who restore the light with the help of children of light, i would think that they were foreshadowing the catastrophe that was soon going to happen. Thats why these prophets were training children for the trials

The Season of Prophecy feels like it'd fit in somewhere in the middle of the civilization's technological rise or somewhere between the beginning and midway. It'd feel appropriate given it'd have them with plenty of time to both receive the visions of the future, and to try and find a solution. It would also help explain why the creatures in the fire trial are so vaguely shaped. They weren't sure just what they were going up against at the time, so they had to make due with the visions they saw of the dark creatures.

I think very similarly. I think there was a harmonious relation between light and dark, and too much usage of light can ruin the balance of light and dark and darkness becomes overwhelming

Hidden Forest has a similar structure at the end that GW has in the area of the first krill encounter. That already speaks margins. HF didn't have much outside of polluted rain while GW is a whole BP oil spill at its worst.

I've grown to look at the Eye of Eden as, if the entire land was a nation of ancestors, Eden was the Capitol. The seat of power and everything. It had the biggest stone at its heart, the castle in the sky, and probably temples and other buildings galore before the the storm ripped it all apart like paper. It's also why I still think the Krill there used to be the guardians of Eden that became corrupted and why they have such strict patrol patterns.

Addendum, for fun: this also means the theory that they probably had dragon riders before they turned all corrupted can exist in my head rent free.

I mean, to some extent, no, they don't love us. We show up as some random kid they've never met, of course they're not instantly fighting over who gets to adopt us. It's not until the kid puts in the work to restore the constellation, and by proxy probably spending a lot more time with them (just because players skip the cutscene every time by going home doesn't mean the kids do canonically), that the kid gains their favor.
But I don't think they simply see us as tools to clean up their mess either. You can tell in their behavior. Every step of the way (except Forest), the elders treat our children gently, with some of them, like Prairie and Valley, even being downright playful. They act like they're aware that our kids are kids and behave appropriately. If they thought we were just there to clean up their mess, all of them would probably act straight to the point and unfeeling towards the kids. There would be a certain level of detached business.

Heck, even Forest Elder, despite her rude behavior, isn't necessarily harboring ill feelings toward us. In concepts, forest was supposed to represent the teen years. It was supposed to feel enclosed and make you feel trapped and stifled, and Forest Elder by proxy was to give a feel of an overbearing mother. But most (most, not all, but I'm not getting into that) parents still really love their kids, even when they've reached a difficult time in their relationship with them. I've seen even more alternate takes on Forest Elder's behavior, but this is the one I think of off the top of my head

btw I don't think power diamonds in and of themselves were bad. Like, again, the only one we see go haywire is ginormous and the little ones work perfectly fine. I think there was an accident in trying to make better power diamonds, rather than power diamonds themselves being awful. Nuclear power plants work fine, but they cause massive damage when something goes wrong (and nuclear power is still a little much compared to the power diamonds I think, but I'm having trouble thinking of comparisons)

Essentially, as you guys have said with the industrialization going wrong, I think it went wrong (disastrous/lethally) in Eden.

Eden looks like it was well inhabited. The amount of buildings (that are recognizable at least) look somewhat like esteemed buildings of study and dorms; a different kind of study than the ones in the vault of knowledge. Me and a friend of mines came to the conclusion that the building that we hide in, just at the end of the first section of Eden, looks like an observatory of some kind. My personal guess is that that the core (in the point of no return) was a pretty prominent aspect of it all; it was a center piece of some kind, rather it be of study or not.

Another thing is what the krill are. Seeing as though they are moving sensors (hence their face), I think they were made to protect/keep certain things away from whatever was in Eden. Maybe created to resemble another light species, but there were errors. Part of me thinks they can eternally feel hunger as apart of those errors. Anything caught in the sensor and it’s on sight for the krill, particularly light creatures; on top of that, krill repellent covers you up in something similar to the fungi. I think the krill were supposed to be a more dangerous/aggressive yet controllable version of something initially docile.

The study of the core and the making of the krill lead me to my next point, the war. The Vault wasn’t really damaged, although there were some casualties and property damage. I like to think the war was a war on the krill and trying to keep them at bay. There wasn’t much of interest in the vault, so it was skipped over, but there was a lot of life in the GW; a lot of life and energy (tying into the industrial advancements said earlier :D). In short, it was a success, but not without massive loss.

I’m going to be honest, I have to agree more with Ennarcia here. These look more like different possible designs of the same creature to me than stages of growth.

Notice the three lined side by side on the bottom; nothing changes about them size wise. The only change is the color and some minor silhouette alterations around the head. They look almost like the general design has been planned out but the small details - such as marking and head shape - are still being drawn out and conceptualized. You’ll often see similarly drawn sheets to this when someone is designing a character, with all the hypothetical designs lined up side by side to pick their favorite.

Also notice the top two on the left - they are the same design - the bottom right one - from different angles.

What I think happened here is that the top left design got picked to be the “final” design hence why you can see it from different angles. Maybe the bottom left design got picked to be a younger stage and then altered slightly (head shape, fin count), hence why you can see its design developed further in top right. The middle bottom one is completely irrelevant and looks like it was discarded; I can’t see it growing further into the bottom right design.

Maybe they are variants, like two birds from the same species wont look like copies of eachother; maybe one has a larger red throat or smaller forehead spot.

Or really, different individuals. After all, some animals recognise individuals within their social group ! They're generally the ones that can recognise human faces too.

Oh so more like… subspecies? Or just not even subspecies they look slightly different? Like different coat variations on wolves? [it’s the first non domesticated animal I could think of]

OHHH LIKE TABBY VARIATIONS ? I was thinking of cats, but since their coat variations came from domestication, I wasn’t sure that was a great example since may imply the same thing happened here

It all started in fourth or grade with Peregrine Falcons, because like any child I had that phase where you learn everything about them and get a stuffed animal of one and dress up as one for Halloween. The stuffed animal is my favorite to this day.
Then it expanded to raptors overall.
Then my friend took me birding in spring and we saw owls and warblers and how could I not get hooked??
I haven’t gone birding in forever though and it makes me really sad. I’m hoping when my birding friend and their family starts doing warbler season I can tag along.

On the topic of light creatures- what do y’all call the big bois in the Hidden forest, just before the GW social point, and in Eden up to orbit-? I call when whales- but I also call the one in the sanctuary a whale.

Mayhaps same species but different mutations to meet their habitats?

Also i think the whales were used in/heavily affected by the war, as they are one of, if not the biggest light creature. Also, that they used to be bigger.

Idk if the difference is size is true/apparent, but the whale just before orbit seems bigger than the other two we see. Granted this could be the same one, seen at several different perspectives/angles, but I like to think they were huge and make up some of the remains in the graveyard.

The remains in the forest being maybe an injured whale who’s final resting spot is where it is, or generally a whale that died and was failed to be fully buried (possibly because all attention was on the wasteland/war)
