I believe broken temple was someone’s temple, whether Wasteland or Valley, but they moved for some reason or another. I mean, why else would it be called “broken temple”

It is theorised to be used to refine dark stone, or possibly charge darks stones.
The most info we have in game, is the forest elder can forge these power diamonds and use them to either power machines, or charge the power diamonds with power.

The names get confusing, dark stone was something that was just a source of raw power but then they called the diamonds produced by the factories artificial stars and it’s kinda hard to tell what rlly is dark stone currently.
Also u should show a pic of the forest temple door, it shows that the diamonds need 2 ingredients, light from the pots and another raw material

Also I thought it was the trees at first but then again there were miners in forest who most likely gathered materials for the diamonds. Maybe the raw material used was also underground

here's how I read it:
Darkstone – blue(?) unrefined stone mined from the ground.

Refined Darkstone – darkstone shaped into octahedrons but not yet the finish product thus cannot absorb and use light.

Power Diamonds/Artificial Stars – the finish product, the batteries of the Sky kingdom that powers technology, has to be given light to be activated, changes color during usage.

Corrupted Darkstone – the red crystals seen in Eden that actively suck out light.

Wait, I thought it was accepted that Darkstones were made using Mantas. Or is that just the refined version and not the raw product from the ground?

I think someone decided to experiment; using the dark stones with living beings.

the darkstone to power diamond manufacturing process uses mantas and other light creatures at some point, but we're not sure at which point. perhaps it's what turns refined darkstones into power diamonds. darkstone itself is the raw material pulled from the ground

I think it’s either that, or just a generic temple to the Light instead of a specific elder. After all, it’s a lot smaller than the elder temples, and its unbroken form isn’t depicted on the isle mural that lists the temples. I imagine smaller, independent temples to the Light would be scattered across the kingdom, although this is more headcanon than anything else

I imagine they extract the pure light from the creatures and somehow infuse the raw dark stone with it, making it refined and ready to power whatever they need.

The broken temple is really interesting to me because the game itself calls it a temple, but it doesn’t look anything like the other elder temples in terms of scale and architecture, and doesn’t contain any elder statues within. The Light is just the simplest answer to me of who or what the temple would be for

More questions than answers. The question here is who ordered to build that temple or was it the people themselves who decided to make their own dark stones?

I think it would be an order like the Forest one. If they built it themselves without the King or anyone else telling them to, then I don’t think it would look exactly the same. Probably not as big, more secretive, in a way.

Oh! For clarification, temples and refineries are completely different buildings. The forest temple has a double purpose for both, but most temples do not have refineries inside.

perhaps those Isle murals were made later rather than earlier, thus depict the last iterations of Elder temples. for instance, it shows the Vault when the timeline of the Vault's existence is dubious though I'm leaning that it was a later creation given how much it relies on darkstone.

So the temple was ordered to be built for someone special. It reminds me of the old man who has the hammer and if the King really built the place for her. But for what reason would it be different from the others? Was there something special between them?

Maybe the Forest Elder just really liked the job of refining things and wanted her temple to also allow her to do that. It may be a little simple, but I think it works given her hammer and (presumed) occupation.

Forest Elder draws me as a smith, so perhaps the initial power diamond production occurred under their specialty, hence their temple doubling as a refinery

So you know the whale bones in forest’s boneyard and how they crush a big building? I had a headcanon that that was originally where the temple was supposed to be, but since it got crushed they had to put it in the refinery. Alasdair’s idea makes more sense though so I switched to that

So forest temple and the second area of wasteland [the one shown here] seem to both be built for the same purpose, to be used as refineries. Explained basically, these are spots where darkstone [these are the crystals that you light to open doors and do things across the world] was cut into its prism shape and given light so that it could function.

As for the last picture, I think the one on the right is from Valley? There’s a common theory that valley and wasteland used to be two parts of the same city, hence the extremely similar architecture and symbols.

I can explain either idea more if you want, just tried to be concise here

The Elders (and king/prince) have names based off Hebrew letters from concept development that are no longer canon, though the fandom sometimes refers to them as such:

Isle – Daleth (ד)

Prairie – Ayin (ע) 

Forest – Teth (ט) 

Valley – Samekh (ס) (they share a name, though the fandom refers to as Sah and as Mekh) 

Wasteland – Tsadi (צ)

Vault – Lamed (ל) 

Prince – Alef (א) 

King – Resh (ר)

Though it seems the devs refer to the Elders by the times of day their realms represent: 

Isle – Dawn 

Prairie – Day or Daylight

Forest – Rain 

Valley – Sunset 

Wasteland – Dusk

Vault – Night

Basically, with the advancement of technology, the vault old man was in charge of doing research and experiments, but at some point in history an accident occurred where he was contaminated by his own creation. So much later he was in charge of contaminating the other beings including the King.

Flight Guide was the true corruption all along. But that theory about Prairie Elder is interesting. I assume they never took any direct action to stop what was happening to the light creatures other than sending spies, since if they did then it would cause a war which they would lose, and they were still in power by the time of the Fall. Which makes it even sadder, knowing that they were fully aware of what was happening to their precious pets but also knowing that attempting to to stop it would be pointless compared to the power of the other elders.

Where to even begin? There’s a lot of theories about the Abyss area. One is that it was wasn’t initially submerged like that and a good deal of it was actually above water and only went underwater after the Fall. Another is that we’re basically changing the events of the past through the missions and that things went much worse for the crew.

something happened to the facility that flooded it and likely caused that huge claw mark on the tower. experiment gone wrong? sabotage?
years later, likely post-Eden calamity, the scavengers found it while looking for resources. they might've died there. their spirits petrified there until we reawakened them. while doing the Abyss quests, we unleashed the dark creatures that remained in the facility.

I doubt that a shrimp would fall prey to the darkness, they’re too clean. Also, not all crustaceans have to be corrupted. I know of four crabs that are cononically nice, 2 by wasteland bonfire and 2 in sanctuary.

Understandable.
The game would have an issue with tiny creatures in any case. These shrimp would have essentially been the anti-butterflies. Instead of charging you up, you instead get drained until you are out of light (then they leave you alone), or you deep call to shoo them away.

But with Piggyback being seen with Voyager and Champion being seen with Leaping Dancer (which is later seen in a Dream memory), we could say lightseekers are in teh same era as voyager and stargazer in isle, the gratitude troupe and the rythm spirits

been thinking of spirit memories as analogous to winged light – meaning that they're not the same, obviously, but serve a similar function.

if winged light are the imprints of children of light, the impressions skykids left on the world, then could spirit memories be the impressions those ancestors left on the world? in that way, the memories we relive are the spirits' most memorable moments in regards to their location, as the world remembers them? that would explain why some memories are seemingly not as memorable, such as walking, but the world finds it memorable in regards to that ancestor.

I also find it interesting that the spirit memories lead to the petrified spirit, especially when they start very far from their final location. this lends some credence that these are the impressions of the ancestors the Sky world has left of them. in a way, the Sky world is leading the skykids to the spirits by invoking the ancestors' memories. we are literally following the footprints of the ancestors to find and rescue them.

That was fun . Though for me, I consider TLP to be some kind of cross-dimensional link to Sky and to other universes. I mean, we literally have a portal to ||Office||, one of the most out of place areas in the game. I wouldn't be surprised if Vault's magic somehow caused a rift in spacetime for a tiny hole to lead to a place where Sky and TLP universes start to meddle withe each other

I like to think the TLP spirits are an amalgam of a lot of things, Salem got this neat theory of memory amalgams and I like to think it's the same here; TLP spirits could be leftovers from real ancestors, a few paragraphs from a book and a drop of elder influence in a trenchcoat dark cape.

One idea for why the spirit memories are there is to maybe remind us of a world beforehand?
After all, Skykids have been given barely any other clues to figure out the daily lives of the Ancestors, so the memories could show them mundane moments (like walking) or notable moments (Prophecy spirits, mini-krills, etc.)

It's very likely they might have had PTSD from what they saw if they left during the Fall, so one would want to become a happy person as much as possible, and not a miserable one. Whatever helps them get by.

they don't have to be biological beings to feel pain. rather than their flesh getting harmed, it could be light or their physical shell getting harms that causes them to feel pain.

pain is a rather simple reflex. feeling pain is basically your nerves and brain going "hey this is a bad thing that is hurting us, get away." the aversion you feel when experiencing pain is addressing the source of the pain, to remove what's afflicting you, in order to preserve your wellbeing.

it would then make sense for your vessels of light to feel pain – they feel an aversion to things that are harming and could potentially destroy them and the light inside them – darkness – therefore they can avoid those things.

The only reason I dont go to eden offen is because its long, and its painfully awful just to get all the way back to 160 wings. I only go when I’ve run out of ascended candles.

Winged Lights protect us from death, and our kids act like they're in pain when they remove them and act sluggish when they're unlit. Is it possible that winged light, to an extent, stops our kids from feeling pain the same way it protects us from death? They can’t even feel emotions, they only fake it using emotes. And typically if something nearly kills you, or it does kill you but you come back, instincts tell you never to do that again.

At the point when skykids learn about seasonal spirits, they have enough empathy to see that the spirits have their own goals which they wish to fulfill before ascension, so they're willing to help fulfill them, through the seasonal quests.

I've spoken a lot on how the interpretation that skykids are emotionless is ableist but I'm in too much pain rn to go into detail:

Personally I’m not a fan of the “skykids didn’t have emotions to start with” theory cos, as an autistic person who expresses emotion in an atypical way, the whole idea that if someone doesn’t express emotion in a way neurotypical people expect then they don’t have emotions at all has been used to vilify and speak over people like me (that’s not saying that’s what’s happening here but that is saying that’s where that line of thought has ended up) — but that’s getting real. Rather, I’m considering more that skykids always had emotions, just learned means to process & express them via reliving spirit memories (since I too have picked up means of expression that actually worked out for me by copying people). Just cos they look like blank slates doesn’t mean they are or ever were.

add the fact that neurodiverse people's body language don't always correspond to neurotypical people's interpretation of body language, so neurodiverse folk are often misinterpreted and even maligned because their body language is partially unreadable or doesn't correspond with their emotions the way neurotypical folk expect. I, for instance, have a "flat affect," meaning I don't natively use a lot of facial expressions and talk monotonously most of the time. I've learned to emulate facial and verbal expressions to match the tone of the conversation or the emotion I'm feeling convey, but it's tiring. however, if I don't, people think I'm cold and unfriendly or even lying about what I'm talking about. My stance is that skykids are built to be somewhat relatable and approachable to the ancestors, because a walking winged light approaching an ancestor is Sky's equivalent of a biblically accurate angel approaching a human

Coming back to talk about crabs. Specifically about their story written in caves of Forgotten Ark

We've gost the first drawing, with crabs vibing on top of some body of water. Doesn't seem that they're bothered by anyone so they're peaceful. Though there are no stars nor light creatures here — they're leaving the area.

Then the spirits came, looking for supplies. Water, I assume

As they came and started taking water, the area started clearing off the clouds and slowly exposing stars. Humidity changed? Or simply spirits' presence made the area less dim? Which then made this place more welcoming to light creatures. Either way, crabs seemed to avoid spirits at this point.

However, spirits took too much. The body of water has been dried almost completely. This uncovered - or created - something at the bottom of the empty space. Could be that it affected crabs and corrupted them, making clouds come back intensely. Could be that the crabs just had enough of spirits influencing their home to this point where it wasnt habitable to them. Somehow, they turned into aggressive creatures.

Seeing the ones in Wasteland are living in dark water, they could have likely been corrupted from the polluted dark water.
Even if the ones in Sanctuary are also hostile, it is possible for the corruption to have spread over time, until crabs that are not currently near any source of corruption have been corrupted regardless.

Perhaps the reason for the office crabs to be tame, is because there is no corruption there (aside from seasonal events such as Days of Mischief, which then includes hostile crabs).

Then it’s just a question of Prairie and Isle. Isle obviously looks like the most frail, but I’ve learned it’s never wise to underestimate someone just because they look old.

That's a simple example of how power X^n is very useful in daily life, the more X (like all the alphabets letter, upper/lower-case + digits) can help make a password safer (wider base), but the longer a password is (meaning how many n digits are there in a password ) can skyrocket the times a bruteforce bot would have waste in order to guess it
