I saw a comic that somebody did about people being falling stars and it really made me think of that text u wrote, I love the idea of skykids having no memory and therefore are confused about their place in such a lonely empty world

frigid tinsel

I mean I’m still trying to write chapter 1 of the main skyfic but the problem is how to write birth

keen shore
#

You can omit birth from that sentence and it would still be accurate

tidal valve
frigid tinsel
#

I just think skykids don’t really know what to do, even after going through the intro cave. Perhaps only after they gain their first winged light do they get a sense of what to do.

Elders I think are made with their purpose in mind. They still have to find themselves and can explore themselves but there’s a lot more encoded in them than skids

tidal valve
#

But I feel like with skykid birth, since they fall with no memory I feel like you wouldn’t need much detail since it’s pretty ambiguous itself

I feel like the birth of a skykid is the fragments of megabird, kinda like how ori is made in that game ahh I forgot the name

# frigid tinsel I just think skykids don’t really know what to do, even after going through the ...

They are like the players.
They dont know where they are from, what they are, what happened or what to do at first.
But there was one portal they can use. The bell was tolling, beckoning to be approached, the skykid can explore and is rewarded with wl.

It is over time, as the skykid learns and grows with the player, they start to piece together things and learn about the world around them.
Sure, the player can look things up, which does not explain who the skykid would know, though that is partly where the game leaves it up to the player to conclude.

I mean, I say a lot that moths are babies kinda jokingly but it’s very true. They’re not quite babies, more like toddlers or preschoolers who know some basic things like walking and talking. They have emotions but don’t know what to do with them. They are told what to do and don’t know enough to do otherwise tho may question things a bit.

It’s only after growing through experience do they gain the ability to express and explore themselves and interact with their surroundings as they see fit

tidal valve
#

I do like to think sometimes if the rebirth cycle is for the replay ability in-game or if canonically there’s a possibility that after eden that’s where the skykid life ends?

keen shore
#

I’m personally not too sure about them having intentions vs just figuring out what they want to be like later like humans, but them being sent down specifically to rule each realm and that’s why each one has the perfect personality for it is a neat idea that I will consider

Although, the implication that Megabird controls society so much that even the rulers are created directly by them specifically with that purpose in mind is… hmmm

keen shore

It’s a hypothetical, so probably not

frigid tinsel
# keen shore I’m personally not too sure about them having intentions vs just figuring out wh...

I’ve been thinking of the Elders being born with these things in mind:

  1. you have been made and directed to the physical world by Megabird and connected in body & spirit to the Light.
  2. Megabird commands over the Light and other godly shenanigans whatever or Megabird is the Light (havent figured that out yet).
  3. there are beings in the world who are more detached from the Light and need guidance.
  4. your duty is to lead these beings to the Light.

Everything else the Elders had to figure out for themselves. Vault Elder wasn’t born a scholar, but they found a propensity towards learning and acquiring knowledge. Forest Elder wasn’t born a blacksmith, but by interacting with other trades they discovered their tenacity with construction and metalworking. Wasteland Elder wasn’t born a warrior, but found their brute strength useful in resolving conflicts.

#

They had a lot of time to figure out their roles. By the time the Chosen One arrived, they had themselves sorted out with relatively stable authority

tidal valve
#

In my mind forest elder should be buff bc blacksmith

But also big strong lady is v cool so I’m biased

There’s a winged light you get just by walking through the rebirth door

tidal valve
#

Yeah!! Who gives that wl, do you start the game with 1 wl too? Or are you completely empty lol

frigid tinsel

I think it’s a game mechanic so you’re not reborn capeless.

Lorewise, I think it represents the winged light another skykid had to give you to revive you in Eden.

uncut pond
delicate arrow
frigid tinsel
#

Winged light didn’t exist in the beta Light Awaits version of the game. Before you would lose expressions.

tidal valve

I like the idea of the king reviving you, bc in orbit that’s where you also get your first wl, after you hug the skykid in the dark room, after they return the favour when you return to sky

delicate arrow
tidal valve
uncut pond
frigid tinsel
# delicate arrow What if in the beta tgc made it so you could only be revived if someone put a wl...

But yea, it would make more sense and be very interesting, tho I think a lot of people would find that frustrating hence why you’re revived as soon as you die in Eden. But it makes sense in-universe cos you’re giving winged light to petrified skykids, why wouldn’t the same have to happen to you?

Imagine dying way ahead and waiting two weeks to play again because no one reach or find your statue or unlucky server switched.

#

I think it’d created an interesting dynamic if your friends or whoever was accompanying you died before you and you have winged light to their corpses, but nobody was left to revive you. You get your friends to ascend quickly but you have to wait

frigid tinsel
delicate arrow
frigid tinsel
#

In my ficverse, it’s rather common to wait a couple days or three to be found & resurrected, tho there have been many who’s been petrified for weeks, months, and in a couple cases a year. One of my sky OCs was a terrified moth facing stormlock for the first time alone and hid when they died. When they were finally found, ascended, and reborn, they discovered that five weeks had passed.

They didn’t know it because I think petrified skykids and ancestors are not conscious. Not quite unconscious, just dead and unaware, knowing and feeling only the darkness that embalms them.

@keen shore this was something that was explained more when the season of belonging was active
The grandma (season guide) was feeling lonely and wanted her family to gather again. So they had us bring everyone together and for the gathering, each spirit wanted to bring one item or gift. The spirit in the archive was bringing one of the knowledge cubes and the room that the mom was taking from was an old decaying room filled with “junk”. If u look at it in that context it’s not rlly stealing at all.

frigid tinsel

What is everyone’s thoughts on what these small rock stacks are? I wandered through forest looking for them with a glow spell, but these were the only ones I found. There’s probably more though, the mixture of dark realm and them being a tiny thing to look for that blends in with the environment perfectly make them really hard to find.

Where I got each picture & short description

  1. Where the shivering spirit memory starts, located next to the grave behind them. Interesting side note is that this spirit has a darkness plant bulb on them, which I didn’t notice until today
  2. next to the exit of the same area (loading dock?)
  3. in the small underground space of the same area
  4. in tearful light miner memory. It’s hard to tell because of the spirit memory turning the color into white [have seen people interpret these as light ingots(?)] but personally I believe these are the same rock stacks. If they are, it’s really interesting because iirc it would line up perfectly with the amount of spirits who died in that memory…

Cairns are used to mark paths, generally on terrain liable to be covered by snow (don't actually make one if there isn't one already, you don't know what creature used the stone you're taking), I saw some a few years ago when I hiked in the alps.

They can also be makeshift gravestones if nothing else is around.

Considering Shivering Trailblazer's name, it's not unlikely these cairns have the former meaning (including the ones in the cave that hold candles, maybe they found another use later after they were built), while Tearful Light miner made them as gravestones.

Would them be makeshift gravestones in the light miner’s memory imply that someone moved the bodies later (since they have other gravestones later on) and if so… why

Also side note. I really want to know whose grave it is that the shivering trailblazer starts next to, I can’t remember if the spirit acknowledges the grave at all though

might've been moved to continue the mine.
yea sure people died here but we got power diamonds to make. move those bodies and get back to work

based off our convo earlier, I'd want it to not be a single massive map, but dozens and dozens of corridors branching off deep into the mountain

they can deep the design simple like the cube-constructed corridors in the tunnels on floor one, so we can get a LOT of map and a LOT of content IN those maps

WAIT
.....what if they made these expanses randomly generated......
so that people can still server merge inside these places, it would just lock every hour before reset and then be completely different when unlocked

then we can have cool tunnel exploration, sky dnd time

maybe the krill snuck into the tunnels, or we're introduced to the hermit spiders in-game

the spirits we'll follow during this season could be a group of nobles from valley who havent died yet, and know about a secret buried deep in the farthest reaches of the vault

i vouch that it's something that can cure darkness corruption on dying ancestors, but it could also be something like how the elders came to the kingdom, what caused the war, records following the life of the king, or all of the above!

the spirits would be the miners themselves, and in their memories it'll be themed about showing them being overworked by a shallow-ly antagonizing ancestor leader, a priest from teth's temple

giant drills in the center of the operation, and halfway into the missions you'll re-activate a highway of minecarts like we see in abyss, they're coming from prairie, heading into the mine to loading stations, then moving off to the forest temple, carrying pots from prairie and darkstone from the mines

the larger plot would be about shutting off the big drill in the center, which is still creating earthquakes in this area to this day

btw here's what i mean when i say awful ugly holes, i dont rly know how to say it otherwise.
I think this would be the best geographic way for tgc to convey a mining operation into a new map

and also the scorpions from the abyss concept.
they probably weren't planning on making them particularly special in gameplay design, but i was thinking scorpions could be a ranged anti flying mechanic, where if you fly overhead just a bit too low their tail will extend about 20 feet out and snipe you
(after a warning of course)
maybe it could be dodgeable if you spam flap right as they attack, and just be a nuisance, so that they arent krill level of a threat

keen shore
#

Another neat variant of this idea: basically what you said, but it also takes place in treasure reef, and we relive the spirit memories of the miners who existed there before everyone abandoned it. One of the quests involves draining out parts of the ocean or even lifting up the island more out of the water so you can explore the area …

…Wait. Now that I think about it. This is a really annoying way to explain away the flooding in abyss, I know, but what if the entire structure floated beforehand similar to the Citadel in valley and that’s why everything is underwater, not because it got flooded? I doubt it’s the case but would be very neat

compact shale

Like we reinstall diamond nodes to make stuff float?

keen shore

Pretty much, yeah

thatd be cool but itd suffer from the same syndrome a concept i had for a forest season had had:
you have to make sure that it doesn't break the game between players who have DONE the missions, and players who HAVEN'T

in a concept i had for an assembly 2.0, a flood would ransack the forest brook, the water level would rise about 30 feet and the assembly team would have to evacuate the villagers throughout the realm and create new housings for them

this wouldn't work, because it implies that, just for a few missions, the forest water level would be raised, but only people doing those missions would see this!

imagine being a player who doesnt want to do the missions or a moth seeing someone do the mission swimming in the higher level of water, and that player is floating in mid-air!

you might end up running into similar problems unfortunately with a concept that drains or negates the existence of water in abyss, for playing not doing the mission, it'll show you flying underwater lolol

Now to figure out if this means “them walking in patterns imitates krill” [understandable conclusion] or something to do with their actual gait mimicking an irl animal or something along those lines. They kind of remind me of jumping spiders when they walk, maybe there’s just a spider under that shell? [although I don’t think they have enough legs. They move so fast it’s a struggle to count them, even if you get a good picture one pair is always under their bodies]

frigid tinsel
#

if both krill and crabs move in semi-predictable movement, then perhaps something about corruption makes them want to stick to a strict path or alters how they move. or makes them territorial

krill are true dark creatures (utterly corrupted), so their patrols are more strict. they don't deviate unless hunting something that crossed their path. dark crabs don't seem so much "true" dark creatures but rather irritated light creatures, so their movements are more erratic albeit still set

frigid tinsel

I was leaning off the "comes to be" part of Ash's statement. how crabs turn dark

nimble ingot
#

Both also tend to go low to the ground at times.
For the Dark Dragon, it is the dark water, or the sandy dunes. For the Crabs, it is soft soil. I dont think there were crabs that went into the dark water, though I may be wrong given there are in the Abyss area.

Either way, most of sky's creatures are based on aquatic creatures, which may imply they are aquatic in nature, or amphibious given they can fly in the sky.
Perhaps the dark creatures were altered to instead seek out the light, they intend to consume it all. They do not give light, they instead steal it.

This is oddly enough similar to how Dark stone works, it can give off light and take in light to become charged. However, when corrupted, they instead take away light and no longer give light. Such as the red rocks in Eden, sure they glow, but their red light is not helping with illuminating the area, it is likely just charged with light coming from the storm.
I wonder if thunder in Sky would give electrical energy, light energy or instead be a destructive form or light energy?

tulip aspen
nimble ingot
#

Furthering the thought about lightning in Sky:
What would happen if a skykid were to be struck by lightning?
What would happen if a Dark Dragon were to be struck by lighting?
What would happen if a Manta were to be struck by lighting? (would they transform from light to plasma and become a cosmic manta??)

We do know the boats cannot withstand a powerful strike from a lightning bolt, as the murals in the Forgotten Ark has shown.
It would likely be a deadly shock to ancestors, being they are/were mortal beings that likely would not survive the burning power surging through their bodies.

frigid tinsel
# tulip aspen yee after re-reading it for a second there's multiple adverbs to leave it up to ...

here's how I interpret it:
"born/made" – the way they were created is how they're always are and always intended to be.
"come to be" – how they are now, which is different than how they were before.

I lean toward "come to be" because we have the existence of two different types of crabs – dark aggressive crabs and passive "light"(?) crabs. so one was made that way, the other was changed.

We see lighting from the Home island while Storm-locked.
We do see lighting in every realm when looking at the Eden mountain.
And most importantly, we hear (but hardly see, if not at all) thunder in the Eye of Eden.

Seeing that the mural in the Wasteland had thunder symbols, and the Dawn mural had a thundering sound effect when a certain mural is revealed, it means that the storm may have once been so large, it could have reached the furthest realms. If true, it may explain how some of the structures were destroyed. While they may have degraded over time, it is also possible an element such as a storm can destroy buildings over time.

The crabs have 4 legs, a quick google search showed this, porcelain crabs and king crabs???

frigid tinsel

Its interesting because google also says that crabs with 4 legs are not true crabs. So, does that mean they are not real crabs?
Im tempted to think that maybe the crabs were never real, and maybe the king who we know did something that lead to the destruction, maybe the result of that corrupted the dimond that powers these animated fake crabs.
Maybe the spirits made these on purpose, maybe thats why certain areas have more. Like those containers meantion earlier at the shipwreck. Seen as cargo containers. Maybe they were shipping these fake crabs to different realms of sky to be brought to life via those diamonds or used in some way. Because there are a few nice one are in sanctuary.
The dimonds in sky are blue, but in eden those gems are red. What if they started of blue.
Like in disney Atlantis, you know the story of a lost civilization that was mysteriously destoryed and it was said that the gods became angery. In that film, the king created war machines that mimic real life animals. Funny enough their dimond is also blue and turn red when angered..
Sorry, i kinda went all adhd there...

frigid tinsel

nimble ingot
# maiden fog Its interesting because google also says that crabs with 4 legs are not true cra...

I like your thinking.

Crabs in real life are better known to have 6 legs, and 2 claws. In Sky, it is possible that their crabs are either not true crabs by real life standards, or it a stylistic choice seeing a creature with 4 legs is easier to animate than 6, (mind you, the krill are an exception to this rule as their 12 pairs of legs dangle and spasm randomly).

Blue diamonds/darkstone seems to be the natural colour they take one, albeit it can be a darkened version in it raw or inactive state. While a red diamond seems to be a corrupted state they can become, whereas the exact reason is not yet been made clear in the game itself.
There is also a golden/yellow state for power diamonds, whenever they are activated or charges with light. The crabs' eyes are usually blue untill they become aggressive and start glowing red. Perhaps there is a link to these things and you are on to something there. SkyThink

As for the Atlantis comparison, I am glad to see other people also see that connection.
While the film has a lot of similarities (I'll list them soon), I am not sure if the original material (i.e. the book or original writing) would still apply. Regardless of that fact, Sky does seem to have plenty of Greek Mythological connections, among that from other cultures (namely Asian, Indian, Australian, Islam, Christian, Buddist, etc.).

maiden fog
sharp lichen
#

Raider you’ve been typing for quite a while pEyes

nimble ingot
#

Here is a list of similarities between the film, Atlantis: The lost Empire, to Sky: Children of the Light:

Dark skinned ancestors with light hair and known to have blue marking, or blue attire.
Lived in a civilisation that once floating in the sky (or above the water).
Relied on a magical crystal/stone that glows blue and is able to cause rocks to float, and/or activate hidden mechanism embedded in stone.
There is an elder that rules over the kingdom.
There is a chosen one among the people that can rise up and defend the kingdom.
The people were able to live in harmony until a calamity occurred and kingdom has fallen into ruin.
The ancestors relied on boats/creatures made of stone as a form of transport.
The stone like creatures were artificial creations of the ancestors and based on aquatic creatures, (note that while Sky does not have these creatures in the game, there is concept art of them that suggest these may have been considered, and possibly would be implemented in the future).
If the crystal is used for evil, or misused, the crystal can corrupt the user and turn them into a creature made of the same material as the crystals, however instead have a distinct red colour.
The ancestors prayed/paid respect/acknowledge/immortalise the dead with shrines made of stone and imbued with crystal energy (especially the elders).
Without the crystal, the ancestors are weakened and may perish (in the film, the Atlanteans had extended life spans due to the life giving energy of the crystals they keep on their person).
There is a leviathan made of stone in the film (in sky, the fan named leviathan may instead play a similar role instead of being a artificial creation).
The world is separated from the human world.

That is about all I can see. If there is anything else, feel free to add your own suggestions.
Also, feel free to use this as part of your own notes, ex. as supporting evidence.

There is in Office, though that might not count within the context of Sky itself.

Either the ancestors did not know how to make glass, did not see a need if they can use metal to do the same thing and/or wanted the wind to flow through their building without too much disruption (hence why some windows have metal meshing or shudders).

Though that is an interesting point, regardless.

I will try to remember all the evidence I thought of because I am very tired atm, might be forgetting some !

  • Same bookshelves on abyss ship and in assembly hideouts. Despite their utility these are surprisingly not super common around the kingdom, and that combined with the fact that wood seems to have been only used for temporary structures or fuel in sky kingdom [you barely see it anywhere, but we do know that the trees in forest were cut down to some extent, plus the clouds everywhere may have made the wood rot faster from moisture] Makes me think these bookshelves are all from around the same time period & wouldn’t stick around in the moisture for long, so had to be a recent one
  • Assembly spirits had to do almost everything themselves with no outside help from others, to the extent of growing their own food and building their own houses. This has led to theories that they were either in forest before it got fully explored (is why they’re called scouts) or they’re there after the disaster and trying to survive. Since they are known to have been designed with “parents” from SeasonLightseekers and base game forests the latter explanation makes more sense

that's honestly how I've viewed the Assembly spirits' situation – they fled to the Forest and went to create a new home far from the falling civilization, but they died before being able to create their refuge.

native shoal
keen shore
#

That’s basically my headcanon except instead of war it’s just all the effects of the disaster [corruption everywhere, lots of storms/earthquakes/natural disasters, water source is horribly polluted, and their original home is destroyed]

I have to wonder how they would manage to survive in forest, because it probably ties for wasteland for being the most inhospitable place to stay post disaster. It doesn’t seem that bad until you realize literally all of the water is corrupted, so hopefully you figure out how to purify it or you have to choose between dehydration, becoming corrupted from the inside out, or struggling to find water contained in other beings (like plants)

If the assembly kids weren’t from forest and didn’t know about the corruption, so tried to drink the water not knowing it was polluted, then that explains how they died. This is assuming they need water, but even if they don’t, the constant rain would be a struggle to deal with as well

moths are newborns, but they're able to walk and mimic others well. they're not physically babies but are physically quite young. they're also new, they're children, they're little. but they also have huge responsibilities on their hands. trauma can hasten mental development in a devastating manner. some people portray skykids as growing up to be teenagers or young adults or even older, but is that assuming a long time has passed in their universes? they're kids, they're young. do they consider 7 months old mature? do they even have a common consensus of maturity?

keen shore
#

Are you planning on making a connection to the days of fortune dragon or do different dragons entirely?

grim pumice
#

It’s really just me coming up with an entire season based on cozy’s chats earlier today, and then making a story out of that from what I put together. pAww so far, there are Elder spirits (I call them precursors for short) who need help locating this one spirit which ran away for unknown reasons to the Skid/player. As we go through the season, you find out more about the nature of Krill, how the elders went about them, how the elders which followed the first elders completely forgot the nature of said dragons and hurt themselves and the dragons during their “Industrialization”, etc etc

formal skiff
#

Krill Whisperer?

grim pumice
#

I’m half asleep so it may not all make sense rn but I’ll clean it up later. Pretty much, you are searching for a precursor elder which had a hard time dealing with understanding the different natures of the Dark Dragons, tried to treat them like normal creatures, got hurt, became super scared, and became VERY angry at the dark dragons for just doing what dark dragons do.

frigid tinsel
#

From the name, I had a feeling krill would be involved

grim pumice
#

The spirits I have include the “Worried Hunter” who has the “search” emote, and the “Fearless Dancer” who has a “Dragon Dance” emote which is similar to the crab dance emote

#

The whole message of said season I supposed to be, if we aren’t careful, industry can hurt animals, aaand we can’t forget the nature of animals despite attempts at domestication (think of gators, we see them in zoos, see a dude sit on them and feed them and such, doesn’t mean we should because omg dangerous)

#

It makes more sense if I write it on paper SkyLOL at the end, the Runaway spirit meets you with a dying dark dragon at Eden, and you have to sacrifice your WL to guide the dragon toward a new and better life (rebirth). Dark dragons can’t fight their nature in this season and you have to use their nature for their benefit (the spirits here are using Camouflage of sorts to stay somewhat safe and hide their light) even if it hurts you

#

So tadaaa that’s about it. I’m writing the dragons as Krill for now because I’m creatively limited lol

keen shore
#

I really like the way this concept paints krill as not monsters you have to fight, but animals guided by mostly instinct - the conflict being that their nature was only made harmful to ancestors via corruption so they seem almost like monsters

Sorry if that doesn’t make a ton of sense, am also half asleep, I just love the concept in general

grim pumice
#

Haha yup that’s what I was going for. Instinct and nature shouldn’t be fought against if it’s just for our benefit, which is what this season kinda points out. Like yeah, they’re scary, but they’re just doing what they do

Also, “glare” emote hurrhurSkyLOL

Yea, it’s light and if you’re a being of light that can manipulate light, it can be easy to shape and resize your hair. But it’s a question of knowing how to get from point A to point B.
I imagine it gets easier overtime where skids can eventually just will their hair a certain way, but the first times they’re trying a hairstyle they have to shape their hair manually and really think about it

I've mentioned before, but with some spirits, like Skater and the Abyss crew, we don't actually seem to be reliving memories. They're interacting with us and we're apart of and contributing to whatever they're doing.

So the basic idea is: The ancestors aren't dead dead. Whatever the great disaster did, it essentially tossed them into a sky kid style rebirth cycle. They exist in this new form, and they're called spirits, but they ascend and are reborn to keep doing their thing just like the kids.

Except they're absolute garbage at ascension. Completely terrible. The sky kids' job is to essentially use their light and act as adorable ferrymen. You help a spirit get ready to ascend (in game as reliving memories or otherwise), and then you take them up to orbit with you, where you and the spirits are reborn. The spirits continue on doing whatever they do until they're ready to ascend again.

Things like reliving the same memories again and again, or empty stadium seats at the race despite lots of applause? All for gameplay and technical convenience.

#

Knowing my luck someone is going to have an entire document on why that's utter nonsense

#

I'd rather y'all tell me it sounds like nonsense then just go radio silent and have me murder the chat SkyFaint

rigid mural
#

Seems like the ancestors are dead dead

tranquil harbor
#

Dead dead is different from just dead

rigid mural
#

By all means go on your line of thinking tho, it's interesting.

tranquil harbor
#

There just isn't a word for their unique state of being because obviously we can't have spirits like them irl, if they exist at all. The concept of a spirit irl and what sky does are disconnected from each other

#

But besides young skater and the abyss crew, there are more examples of spirits existing as more than just memories to be relived. The light seekers look after the trees, granny feeds us (and we can hug both, it's not necessarily just a memory!), the traveling spirits keep coming to visit us. Spirits from previous seasons can come back for holidays. It's all evidence for the spirits not just being 'ascend and never come back', clearly they're still apart of the not orbit world somehow

#

If you hear spirit irl you think something dead that can't interact with the living, but the world of sky has death and rebirth as a natural part of things. So I don't think 'dead' in this specific instance applies like it normally does

#

That's about all I have off the top of my head for now tho. My kid has been sitting in the frozen water trial tundra in a sleeveless dress for the past several minutes, I should probably collect the winged light

formal skiff
#

That’s actually really interesting, Ennarcia

tranquil harbor
#

Everyone else's theories tend to be so... angsty by nature, and I've already been ridiculously wrong in how I've viewed things in the game before, so I get self conscious about my theories

formal skiff
#

Yeah that’s understandable, you bring up some good points here though, with tons of examples of spirits “sticking around.”
My oc Finch was raised by Butterfly and Sneaky so it would be really great for that if your theory was true lol. It would make their backstory actually plausible.

tranquil harbor
#

SkyFaint My serious theories come from a place of logic, I swear, but I'm also new, so I don't know if the Devs revealed something in the past to contradict me or somebody discovered some mural or secret by like, chibi falling thru wasteland elder's head when I don't mess with glitches yet.
I'm fine with not being right, the lore is vague, but being so thoroughly wrong feels like crap

rigid mural
#

I like to think the ancestors theoretically could ascend and never come back, but most don't want us to be alone so they come back down to hang out :]

formal skiff
tranquil harbor
#

Exactly! You think you're on to something but then a lore chat vet comes in here with something that invalidates the whole book u just wrote and u know they're not being mean but you also feel like the biggest idiot alive

#

It's a mortifying risk to take

rigid mural
#

You'll find your marks over time, no need to stress about sounding dumb.
Lore-chasing kinda irks me because it's kind of agressive in finding the absolute truth in a game meant to be vague and pretty surreal tbh... As intimidating as paragraphs from older lore nerds are, they aren't devoid of bias or mistakes. You just can't see them yet.

#

I think newcomers are fun because they haven't read the (outdated) lore docs yet, so they tend to have some unique ideas !

tranquil harbor
#

Honestly, I'm willing to discuss things that are legitimately false if it means finding a thread to something else interesting. (But the second I'm even remotely confident about something it's just like don't even look at me I don't want to know)

rigid mural
#

The pins are a good source of info not a lot of people check too. I am guilty of that, but in my defense, I am trying to balance my hobbies rn

tranquil harbor
#

Arg Lore chat isn't about being right but I don't know how to discuss it in terms beyond 'true or false'. Like obviously in cases like Eden there is a storm there and claiming nothing ever went down there is hot nonsense, but for the vague stuff it's just interesting to theorize at all even if we don't have concrete stuff.

rigid mural
#

You will find people here have quite different views once you recognize names.

tranquil harbor
#

My lack of vocab is frustrating. I can't convey what I want to convey

rigid mural
#

Like, lore chat regulars aren't a monolith, lots of good ideas but we seldom agree on everything. You're gonna be fine, I like reading what you have to say even if I don't always answer because I'm starting to lurk more and more lol

tranquil harbor
#

Yeah, I get that. I also get that when someone says 'the veterans' it can give off this vibe of like 'the betters', even when that's not really what's being said. It's just frustrating to work hard on something and it turns out it's the one time sky decided to not be vague with their lore and you are just super wrong.

rigid mural
#

Veterans are just here for longer and thus lived through changes or just have more experience, there's indeed a bit of prestige to, say, having seen the lost stream (stellify please interact) but otherwise vets aren't that special.

sharp lichen
#

I’ve noticed that the word “veteran” gives off a feeling of eliteness, both in Sky lore and the Sky community on general

tranquil harbor
#

Like, someone with the experience to know what they're doing can be 'trusted' to keep doing it. Naturally, the world isn't that black and white, but the connotations are certainly there

rigid mural
#

Plus most players that people recognize as vets ingame are people that could afford a pass to get the ults.
I know an enchantment vet that doesn't have any old ult, so...

On lore chat, vets are just people that have been here for a good amount of time, you can see Kitsuu on screenshots when the blue Eden oob was posted here for example.
[Sorry, thought they left the server but they are actually still around.]

A Sky Lore vet may appear they have things figured out but they don’t cos nothing is tangible

We are all chickens with our heads cut off, but sky lore vets have learned how to walk in a straight line. They're still headless chickens tho SkyLOL

rigid mural
#

You just assimilate what we know so far so your theories have more bases to stand on, but really, with a game that vague, anything is possible. All it takes is a season with a few retcons to flip the theories we have on their head SkyLOL

Ah retcons. Truly delicious

Was Prophecy retconned or did y'all just guess incorrectly about info that hadn't been revealed yet?

The arrival of the season was with a few changes, for example, Ushering Stargazer (previously Ushering Migrant) and Pointing Candlemaker (previously Pointing Pilgrim) had their memories completely changed.

You got any vids of the old ones?

Likely old vids on youtube, I came here the day Sky dropped on switch so I don't have any on me right now.

From my anatomy doc (WIP)

Lmaooo, I don't really think much about anatomy.

Abyss lets us explore an old factory, and shows the ancestors themselves had their own ruins to explore. I like the idea of spirits surviving after the apocalypse but dying out before the first player sky kid landed here.

frigid tinsel

This is still a WIP cos this is opinionated

Interestingly enough, Valley, the water trial not in water, and the air trial don't seem to bother your kid despite the obvious snow. Perhaps it's different with wind?

I feel like the Trials are more like metaphysical locations, so the hazards don't actually affect your kid, they're there as means to test your virtue (In Water Trial, it's Patience)

Winged light has been described as like, the after thoughts of sky children when they all gathered at the same place enough times right? A large part of the game is being kind and helping others, and, while I know it's concept, light once stood for community and togetherness. I wonder if that's why winged light protects us. It's the lingering kindness of sky children given shape/power

#

It could also explain why it helps us fly, since 'they're helping us reach new heights'

yeah, to me all themes of ascension and becoming free again seem to be emotional and internal battles of will to fly away, i see that in the spirits, the statues, and i see that in in the skykids
