Obviously late to responding to this but my concept is that everything but the skeletons got eaten away by the corruption, and the leftover bones, augmented in size and changed in color by the corruption, fused together into the massive krill. Since darkness is attracted to light I imagine it just eating away at any soft bits it can, maybe devouring them quickly and efficiently like maggots. [this is all headcanon because until now we haven’t gotten any detailed evidence on how corruption works other than “it just does”]

Oh… I just realized something. So we only ever see ancestors mining darkstone, right? But gold is present throughout valley of triumph and decorating some other realms. Only other place we see gold is on coelacanths and elder creatures

Conclusion: gold was not gained by mining but by hunting. Hence the dismayed Hunter, who may not have been hunting light creatures for meat but for gold

There’s a lot of correlation between the gold containers that we know hold power diamonds, and crabs that are usually nearby the empty containers.

a thought i had is that, after being corrupted by darkstone, it's kinda like they're controlled to move towards places where even more darkstone were, as if the corruption/darkness is like a virus inside their head telling them to go be corrupted even more

that's extremely morbid tho...

keen shore
#

It’s an odd thing to think about, because krills go after our light, so you’d think they’d go into places like daylight prairie which are FILLED with light creatures. It would practically be a buffet for them. But they always stay away from the sun — somehow they’re both after the light and afraid of it

Unless, they don’t need our light in the first place, but it’s more along the lines of lashing out in anger/fear/being territorial

Maybe sunlight destroys them, or staying in the dark turns them dark? SkyShrug

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of sunlight destroying them, but you’d think our light would have the same effect considering how much more concentrated it is.

When we took those crystals any barriers keeping them away were gone. They roamed free. The crystals seem to be some sort of light and i dont think they can distinguish between us and those crystals and the barriers they created.

So I was thinking about crabs again, and I think I know why they aren't near any golden containers in Forest. What do we know about forest that makes it unique for darkstone?

It's where natural darkstone deposits are. Darkstone is mined there. Natural crabs develop in Forest when the natural darkstone deposits are exposed to light. That's why they're in the caves; that's where the darkstone is.

It doesnt make sense to keep a creature that big and also CORRUPTED in there.... So there's 2 options for this.

  1. They found the dark creaure and put it in there so that it wont stir trouble again
  2. It actually wasn't corrupted when it was captured. But it got corrupted during the time it was trapped there.

Considering how the underwater infrastructures there seems to have a purpose of holding in light creatures rather than dark creatures, Im leaning towards the 2nd option. This may have happened for the Krills as well...

So the general story is really vague, and everything not nailed to the floor is debatable. But basically spirits are stars, they live in a cycle of life death and rebirth to bring light they gain from life to the megabird, which is like the collection of light/orbit/god and be reborn. Something bad happened and the rebirthing stars fell back down to living people. When this happened is debatable as in stargazers memory we can see someone very important fall who might have played a part. We think its the prince/king of sky kingdom who may have been the first skykid, and became eden elder. Same who won the trials and granted elders elemental powers, but eventually overused a light-consuming substance called dark stone and became corrupt (some concepts even show him as a final boss!). So with the stars fallen, and eden blown up presumably by that big diamond, the megabird blesses the land with a new race to save the trapped souls and re inhabit the ruins. Also krills are corrupted light creatures.

So I realized that just before you go into the point of no return in Eden there’s a sound effect on loop that plays.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XDQH9CpfAYQ it’s this, though I think the audio has been sped up and pitch adjusted. I need to get a video of my own n post it here to make sure.

Are they praying? To who? If Eden is/was the place of ascension is this how they ascended back into Orbit and to the megabird?
Are the loud noises I hear on occasion krills or some other form aggressive darkness coming to being? The storm? I think I hear a terrified group of screams, though it could be the echo of the wind created from whatever’s going on.

Sure thing! It’s obviously not confirmed but I personally like it. The main theory is based on the fact that Skykids are born from an inherently magical source, falling out of the sky like stars upon their creation and rebirth. Some think they might even be actual stars given a humanoid shape and therefor have bodies of stone like asteroids. Physically, skykids resemble the Ancestor spirits, particularly Ancestor children, but they’ve been confirmed by the devs to be more of a subrace and that they will not grow up and become Ancestors adults. The fact that they each carry a flame physically inside of them with the ability to produce it from their chests is another factor into why people think so. And when they do die in Eden, their bodies grow stiff and become hardened like stone statues. So it’s nothing really exact and more just speculation due to their physical attributes, but I think it’s neat.

The Isle soundtrack is kind of an overarching soundtrack for all kingdoms of Sky, I feel like.
We encounter a set of notes in every realm, except it's always altered and hidden between other parts of the music. For example, you could change the instrument or the tempo to match the mood of the realm.
In Prairie when you mount a manta, the music swells.
In Forest, that music has a bittersweet tone to it, like the end of one era and the beginning of another.
In Valley the music is energetic, in Wasteland it's ominous.

in addition to what fish said, there's a few reasons why skykids (at least their physical bodies/shell) are thought to be made out of these materials.

–clay: when skykids crash into the ground or walls, you hear this pleasant "ding" sound. it's reminiscent of pottery or fine china clicking together, hence the thought that they may be made of hardened or glazed clay.
–stone: the idea is that, upon landing, whatever magic is imbued with skykids forms their physical body from the material of the ground they landed on. since skykids are born on the sandy shores of the Isle or reborn on the stony constellation table at Homespace, their physical bodies are made of that surrounding material.
–charcoal: in Tom Zhao's concept art, he says that the Elders' bodies and parts of elder light creatures, such as the armored faces of whales, are made of charcoal. since there are some similarities between skykids and Elders, it's possible skykids may also be in-part made of charcoal.

keep in mind that these are at least "magic induced," giving their bodies properties superseding the material in it of itself. like charcoal and clay are rather fragile irl, but obviously skykids are very hardy, and stone is immobile, but skids are flexible and able to move. that may be credited to the magic that composes them.

awesome point about how the statuesque death really does hint towards that

personally, i also believe that despite the ancestors being able to age and grow, they also are clay shells, just with a lot less Light in them which, as a condition, makes them mortal

the reason i believe this is because they come place the same place Skykids come from, and i fail to see how one Being of Light would become more... biological than the other

after all them aging is theorized to be based of wisdom they gain rather than time lived, so them aging could possibly just be some sort of magical condition

—this hollow shell is full of light, such as winged light and neutral light.

btw @rustic heron i saw your comment on why i dont comment on music theory

i have made many in the past in cozy chat, but i personally dont see the musical themes giving me much arguments or evidence towards my work here so its kinda irrelevant; i dont think there's hidden messages or anything to be found or cared about in the music and it expresses exactly what it's supposed to

frankly I can't add to music theory due to lack of knowledge aside from the fact that music does influence the game's atmosphere and emotional impact.

tulip aspen
#

imo that's all it does?
it'd frankly be weird if there were hidden messages, after all it's not like TGC made an elaborate scavenger hunt with their lore like some other games and media, all TGC did was strip the game of it's storytelling narrative until the story is incomprehensible due to development constraints lol

frigid tinsel

well that's all I can say off the top of my head. it isn't uncommon for hidden messages to be encoded in game soundtracks, I just don't have the knowledge or equipment to uncover them.

tulip aspen

it isnt uncommon, but im preeeetty sure diamante's contract just told him to make beautiful music, not use the drum beat to make morse code or the vocalist's lyrics actually being code for something in a fake language or backwards words in some real language (the latter would be really cool thooo)

So either you travel back in time to insert yourself into the memory and rewrite it into something happier, travel into their memories of the original event and do the same thing, OR it takes place in real and non illusionary time

#

Probably leaning towards the second, because we know spirits can project their memories into our consciousness some way or another and that’s what spirit memories are, so us being able to enter complex ones and interact with them is the logical next step

I’m trying to explain my idea better hold on

The original memory, and the one that repeats for the spirit over and over again, doesn’t have us in it and can be negative. We somehow enter the iteration of the memory currently playing in the spirit’s mind, possibly due to Unknown Questgiver Powers, and help remove the negative parts from the memory. The spirits, who only have their altered memory to rely on in order to recall an event happening years ago, now believe that’s what happened and are happier

I also feel that I should bring up the fact that the flight qg was relieved to see us. And also, what about the grandma wax event?
And the fact that these seasons can actually affect things physically.

#

But if we aren't reliving the memories of the abyss qg through their eyes, then why haven't they taken any part in the story?

I suppose it could have been that TGC intended for the captain to be the qg but then plans changed and they had already spent part of the budget on the animations.

darkstone is a special resource that seems to suck up light and then emulate some kind of power, making it useful for all sorts of machines

the prince discovered it and the kingdom started mining it so they could use it for all sorts of devices

darkstone, when refined, creates power diamonds

power diamonds can make things float, hold things together, move large objects, and most mysteriously, either project illusions, or tap into the minds of ancestors and skykids

they seem to spew hazardous waste like corrupted batteries, but it is unclear what causes them to do so, and our only visual example of this occuring is the most dangerous and violent one; the giant diamond in the Eye of Eden

the hazardous waste seems to corrupt all beings of light. It traps the spirits of ancestors within their bodies and corrupts creatures of light turning them violent.

boreal nebula
#

But we actually don't know what That Diamond was meant for. Heck, we don't know what the Resources were called for sure, or how the golden containers we see in GW, Forest & Sanctuary were called

Yes, here in lore the Resources are called also darkstones, but that name was never seen used ingame and the fact there is a Tearful Light Miner IMHO might means these crystals collected by Commodore we see in Abyss weren't harmful per se.

#

Also resources we see in all kind of realms looks very crystal clear, until we lit them. I think they were prisms per se, which could reflect what they were infused with

ionic cave
boreal nebula
#

ionic cave
keen shore
#

Darkstone on its own is not harmful. When it’s not charged, it’s just a pretty looking rock. The issue is that it can hold light inside of itself like a battery, and when it does this it can power tons of mechanisms as well as helping heavy things float (such as boats). By meditating we can temporarily fill small crystals with light, which is how the boats leading to treasure reef and forgotten ark work. The boats in isle and prairie likely worked the same way as well, just operated by ancestors instead of us.

…Except that only works for small crystals. For complex mechanisms and larger boats, we can charge the darkstone there with our candles, but ancestors probably didn’t have enough light to charge them on their own. Also, light creatures are the most concentrated form of light they had access to in order to charge them, except when you suck all the light out of a light creature, Bad Things (corruption) tends to happen. You can probably see where I’m going with this

#

ionic cave

Pipes in Eden were likely to transport clean water around the area and maybe down to golden wasteland as well. It’s on a mountain, so probably had enough fresh water to go around. They could also be just to transport sewage or general waste products away from the top, although there doesn’t seem to be a refinery in Eden or much evidence of a massive city, so probably the first

ionic cave

Sometimes mantas do leave behind skeletons, a replica of one is shown in vault. This might be from the four+ winged mantas though instead of the generic 2 winged variety that got krilled

ionic cave
tulip aspen
# ionic cave So you are saying the Eden diamond is generating waste?

i assume so, but all we know for sure is that

  1. there was an apocalypse that killed all the ancestors and corrupted creatures
  2. there's a giant murder diamond overlooking the entire kingdom on top of mountain
  3. the closer you get to that mountain the more destruction and corruption you will find

this game's story is very vague so there are a lot of things we have to assume

tulip aspen
keen shore
#

2 winged mantas don’t seem to leave behind anything when all their light gets sucked out, which is probably how the refinery/darkstone charging station in forest’s temple was able to function without filling hidden forest with krills (a manta sign near the elder statue denotes that this refinery uses mostly mantas)

Here’s a message link (#lore-discussion-spoilers message) to a speculation/theory post more in depth about corruption. TLDR: larger and more complex creatures are more likely to leave corrupted remains behind than mantas are

I would be glad to read their observations tomorrow (this will be my comment/bookmark) but there is on last observation I'd like to leave as input

From what I recall not all the resources we collected were already there in the present before quest started and manifested on the spot (hope this won't be addressed/fixed/retconned in future updates)

1st quest, Door was closed but I was almost Resource was present
2nd quest, Resources manifested on the mines tunnels and carts
3rd quest, Resources were present to keep the aquarium working
4th quest, Resources were not in place (I entered round room with crabs without OOB and I saw the slots above doors empty) but since Giant Door was sealed it was reasonable it was inplace like aquarium (but I cannot be sure, cause I didn't want to spoil me the story so I didn't OOB there)

These seems to suggest me that these season evokes/manifests thing that were actually already collected by questgiver and some we clumsy pick up ourselves 🚨 (unleashing the Kraken Leviathan)
A good mix of Past & Present

keen shore
# ionic cave So you are saying krills come from mantas 😱

There are TONS of theories on what light creature specifically krills come from. Mine is personally that they’re skeletonized manta corpses that somehow fused together during corruption process, but other options include the various massive light creatures we can find around, or even the light creature we can see in the switch trailer that isn’t present in the game. Their exact origin animals aren’t too important, but they are definitely corrupted light creatures

Also you can, but it’s mostly a fun personal headcanon for me. Like the sludge idea above, I don’t think it’s actually canon, I just like the concept of it. But evidence would probably be along the lines of krills’ long spindly limbs resembling what manta wing bones would probably look like, their head shape being similar to mantas, and the idea that if light harvesting left any manta remains behind, they would probably be piled up somewhere as waste. All those combined and I instantly thought of Giant Amalgation Horror Monster

ionic cave
# keen shore There are TONS of theories on what light creature specifically krills come from....

But a krill is so different from a manta...I would have believed if there was a dark manta but I see no reason for a manta to change it's skeletal structure cause it got corrupted. In my view the physics of the sky universe is different from normal physics cause of the presence of 'light energy'.

The living things that developed in such an enviornment evolved to utilise light energy for their benefit

  1. creatures like manta, butterfly etc are light based creatures

However another type of creatures that prey upon light and have light absorption properties also emerged

  1. the second type of creatures are dark creatures like the krill and the abyss fish.

There are also creatures that don't have light energy or prey upon light
3) this 3rd type of creature might be some types of whales(I am not sure about the santuary whale), goldfish etc

Crabs might be a dark creature since sky kids no longer suffer damage upon impact. So only light absorption can damage a sky kid.

This does not mean that dark creatures are superior to light creatures since a very strong light creature can stun a dark creature. Like how a sky kid can flip crabs. It may be possible for a very strong deep call to defeat a krill. Also physical strength can also play a factor.

Whales are pretty strong even if they have no light energy. This is seen when a whale smashes through the obstacles in Eden..

The elder mantas that appeared in season of light were pretty strong too....but they might have amplified their strength with light energy (I don't know if that is possible)
Krill have no strength feat to speak of ..except throwing arround sky kids 😪

# ionic cave Well the tea set was made from light energy. The spirits actually only sell blue...

That's also another way to see their anatomy, it is something I noticed with the crab barbecue in Golden Wasteland.

The cooked crabs are releasing light fragments. Meaning Skykids/Ancestors really just eat light. It's basically just absorbing the light of something else.

Which then connects to fire and the geysers, that show us it's not just light, but heat. A hot tea cup is nutritious because it is hot, just like a geyser replenishes your light.

That being said, I agree with you!! Even the real deal is more about tea being warm.

the fact that they're at at Edengate and not actually inside Eden is.... hm....

Edengate is the most fascinating anomaly we'll never really have the answer to, just because of the Elder symbols.
Lets say we go off of the idea that the Elders gave us their Light when we met them and our Light is technically imbued with theirs.

I wonder if the Eden gate can only be opened by the Elders?

if so, why?

why would all Elders need to be there to seal or unseal that door?

were all of the Elders except Isle there when the apocalypse happened? could they truly have sealed it? if so, was it to lock people out?
or lock someone in........

that combined with Ark's lifeboats being there.......

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

keen shore
#

Another fun fact about the Eden boats that you may have noticed is that they’re a lot more… square? solid? Than other boats. This combined with the unique square indentations means that even in scenario is where only a small bit of them is visible, they’re still easily identifiable.

The only other thing I can think of to explain them is the fact that their shallowness and general shape remind me of the boats from wind paths, meant to be pulled by light creatures. They’re nowhere near the same model and have tons of differences, but it could be possible that pre-Massive Diamond explosion, darkstone - even in boats - was very strictly not allowed near Eden, so light creatures tugged them instead?

Also note about the color scheme and blue paint. Most boats have that color and blue stripe for some reason

#

Am currently struggling with running around the office and thinking of things to measure. The issue is, I don’t think they made it to have the exact proportions of irl office because a lot of things come up to skykid instead of people height, I guess just for convenience so we can light the candles?

You know.. I wonder. What caused the weird cyclone to spin the way it does at the Wasteland?

#

Is it the result of ||Eden||'s storm?

rustic heron
#

Generally, hurricanes and the like are caused by the rising and falling of warm and cool air. This is why hurricanes tend to occur in the tropical areas; the warm air rises and cools, causing convection currents that cause winds to rotate.

#

What this means for the Eden storm is that, on a mountain with generally very cold air, something must cause warm air to rise; this is likely the warm air generated by the Diamond at the center of Eden. This same mechanic causes the lightning in Eden; warm air and water, due to Eden's closeness to the ocean, cause tall clouds to form. These tall clouds contained ionized particles, which can cause electric charge to form within the height of the cloud.

These clouds are labeled cumulonimbus clouds, and the electric charge built up between ionized particles of dust and water will cause energy to build up and a potential to form, which eventually causes electric charge to build up and seek a ground to reduce the potential (quite literally the ground). The electrical current heats up the air as it surges toward the ground, causing incredibly hot and bright lightning strikes.

The implication is that the water near GW is warm, conducive to the formation of a storm. The bordering mountain range may provide a constant cooling of the warm GW water, fueling an eternal hurricane near the area (AKA between Valley and the GW coast).

one chair is knocked down so some people started theorizing about who could have knocked their chair over

some people think it could be prairie elder who didnt like what was going on, others think it could be another elder

there were disputes about if any of them could fit cos maybe the chairs were too big, specifically for the valley twins and especially for vault elder, who's the shortest

i think salem vela and others did size comparisons and we kiiinda thought they'd all fit okay, there were plans to go measure vault elder with chibis and props to see if they'd fit sitting on those massive chairs, i dont think we ever actually did any of that tho lmao so rip"

Does someone have pics of all of the paintings in abyss? I need to piece some lore pieces together

nimble ingot
#

Here is a thought.
What if the realms reflect the Elder's state of mind?

Picture this:
Dawn is blank and empty, but once was full of life and signs of a past civilisation. The elder is broken by the time the skykids met him, and agrees to help the skykid along the journey.
Day is colourful along with an abundant amount of butterflies and mantas. The ancestors lived out their days in a land rich with resources and were well off, though not advanced. The elder was found sleeping when the skykid met him. It may be possible with the elder known to fall asleep, his realm was as lucid and whimsical as his dreams.
Forest is one of the more sombre and realistic realms. Rain pours down and brings a blueish hue to the area. The ancestors were hard working yet ambitious, who did not let the rain bring them down until something had struck them personally. The elder was seen at her anvil yet unable to use it when the skykids met her. She was able to work once after the skykids gave her something she needed.
Valley is one of the few realms that has multiple paths that lead to the temple (currently 3). The realm is fast paced and had two sides, the wealthy and famous that lived up top, and the more humble and passionate that lived lower down the mountainside. The twins may have their differences and be competitive, though are willing to unite and rule over the realm gracefully, as one.
Wasteland is more grim than most realms, the land is in ruins and riddled in battle scars. The realm is home to the most krill in one area, which leaves the realm not only inhospitable, but dangerous to travel through. The elder is a fierce warrior that has grown weary over time. when the skykids were able to help while he was down, he opened up and let the skykids pass.
Vault is a realm that was once a well kept library of knowledge. But now it fell into disrepair and seemed abandoned, where echoes of the past are all that is left.

late wasp
#

Lion King intensifies

nimble ingot
#

Finally, Eden.
Perhaps the reason the realm is falling apart is because the elder is no longer there to sustain it.
The realm is either has fallen into chaos because it was the last of what the elder felt before they disappeared. Or the realm is no longer connected to the elder and has since been unable to sustain itself.

Either way, the king, the elder of Eden, being missing may be the cause of the storm. With no elder to maintain order, a void has been left that cannot be filled.
Perhaps when the storm started a long time ago, the other elders tried to prevent the darkness from claiming the other realms and sealed it off.
Perhaps the dawn elder tried to help, but could not because his mask broke. Of the other elders, dawn is the most frail and would likely have been too weak to help (hypothesis).

Assuming the King was once the one that could control time (based on a comparison between him being like father time, or the grim reaper, and megabird being the giver of light and life, being like mother earth), when the realm was sealed, the cycle is broken.
I wonder if that was what the murals in dawn was referring to. When the elder 'did not listen' (still considering that valid as the murals were updated, not redacted), and the darkness started to spread. Despite the realm being sealed off, preventing ancestors from accessing the realm. The darkness is still able to reach other realms as they are on the same dimension (hence why we can see the Eden mountain in every realm).

#

Touching upon the stages of life.
Perhaps it is more so related to the skykid than the elders.
The biggest clue would be the elder of dawn is an old man, not a child. That and the youngest looking elders are in Valley, with both appearing as young adults.

I saw this video that gave this idea, and to give credit, here is a link to it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zzEBN6oY5Y

The maker of the video proposed that the stages of life matches the states of the skykids upon their first journey through the realms.
Dawn being their first, would represent birth/infancy. Day being vibrant and playful, represents childhood. Forest being moody and rainy, represents adolescence (teenage hood). Valley being competitive and letting players choose their path, represents adulthood. Wasteland being dark and dangerous (stressful), represents a mid-life crisis (growing old). Vault being calmer and quiet, represents the elderly stage. And Eden represent death, with the king being gone and an inevitability in the chaotic realm.

Additionally, I would include ||Orbit|| as rebirth, being that is where the skykid completes their journey. But must return to fulfil their purpose. Because that is not where their story ends, but where is now where it really begins.

They could have created that cyclone as a defensive mechanism to keep darkness at bay in GW, part of another my theory (idk if someome shares my assumptions) of realms separated by barriers as sealed compartements (starting from the Eden Door Seal) and avoid an ill fate to further realms

  1. Devs forgot that details and messed up the Elder Table proportion
  2. Devs subtlely hint that Lamed Vault Elder again remember things slightly smaller than they really are
2.1 Elders we met aren't as strong as they once were so they shrank abit
(In case 2 I think the table and chairs coule be the correct size instead of the solid table shrinking because it's a very solid memory)

it's actually TGC being like those crappy styles of animated props being in the background in 2d animation with painted backgrounds

basically, that's the lanterns that fly over to power the elevator after you activate the lamps on the ground

they never actually blended in with the rest of the library lol they come straight from where you see them in the shelf

we could make up some fun answer to it, maybe those are special lanterns, the only ones that can power the elevator; batteries

So here’s what I’m thinking

The vault past the first two levels as we know is very.. weird. But what if because of the calamity, and the vault seeming to be a place linked that memories. Because of the spirits memories fading, the vault got more and more spacey like we know it today.

Hi, since we’re talking about turtles: turtles are hypothesised to be the last living group of organisms called anapsids, which are characterised by lacking one or more holes in their skulls.

Anapsids are widely considered the most basal of all amniotes (creatures who have an amnion, or membrane, surrounding the embryo and lack a larval stage).

This is interesting because most of Sky is comprised of anamniotes (basically fish), of which mantas are a form of cartilaginous ray-finned fish, related to sharks.

This, in turn, greatly contrasts the Krill and crabs, which resemble invertebrates, the most basal of all animal groups, characterised by their lack of a spine. Jellyfish also fall squarely into this category.

I can’t help but wonder if Sky’s major faunal references aren’t from ancient Cambrian and pre-Cambrian creatures.

And moreover, don Ancestors and Sky kids trace evolutionary ancestry to jelly fish or other crustaceans, or are we most like vertebrate fish?

as it says, i believe that they removed the horns entirely due to the fact that it having horns would deviate too far from it looking light-creature-esque

and then consequently to reconnect all 3 candidates back in despite that idea that the cinematic creature eventually was removed of it's horns in the design process, i stated that perhaps the darkness creates the horns

If we have shells, maybe we’re more like Krills than light fish. That means Ancestors and Sky kids are more closely related to other creatures of darkness (invertebrates) than creatures of light.

What is the general background of Sky lore? I'm guessing that Eden exploded and caused mass extinction of the population

what were those ppl? children of light like us or were they humans? did they run on light to live?

keen shore
# safe sphinx What is the Eden explosion?

So, looking around you in the world of sky, you may have noticed that everyone is very obviously Dead. The Eden explosion/Eden disaster/Storm [it is referred to by all 3 names] is the name of the disaster that killed everyone. The current idea is that it’s related to the massive red crystal positioned over the beam of light in Eden and that, somehow, placing the crystal there and overcharging it caused the explosion. This is because the crystal resembles darkstone/power diamonds, the blue stones we have to light in order to make various mechanisms work, and because the of the massive storm of darkness and corruption radiating out from Eden

summary
"A mass of Light sits in space, a collective conscious

Ancestors (spirits) came from the Light, either sent or fell by accident, as pure Light energy, then gaining shells upon landing.

These ancestors began building a kingdom, but due to the religious subtexts of worship and meditation, it's theorized that they were supposed to reconnect mentally to that Light in space, in order to ascend back up to it. (that theory may be incorrect and they might've had no real way to return)

Powerful deities; Elders, were sent by the Light to help them ascend, tasked to help the ancestors grow both spiritually and keep their kingdom thriving, but even then the ancestors still couldnt ascend..

The prophets had a vision and saw a being defeating a group of trials, and being given great power to lead them all to salvation.
Ancestors tried the trials but failed, until a special child ancestor that fell from the sky a long time later, defeated them and was crowned prince/king.
The prince MAY have singlehandedly discovered/developed darkstone and crystal technology, but that might've been before the prince.

There seemed to be resentment in the kingdom with one side preferring spiritual traditions, and the other preferring technology.
Civil war breaks out.

The giant diamond in eden was created/harvested for an unknown purpose, but recently i've been led to believe it was intended to send all ancestors straight back up into space without a complicated ascension process.
(Made before or during the war???)

The crystals created some sort of corruption pollution, and the giant diamond ruptured.
We dont know much about the apocalypse that followed, and there's even theories that there were multiple apocalypses all at once.
After the dust settled, likely decades later, all of the ancestors were dead.

A loooong time after that, the mass of Light sent angels to retrieve the souls of the ancestors, and that's us! Our job isnt done until every spirit hidden in new areas is found."

# safe sphinx What is the general background of Sky lore? I'm guessing that Eden exploded and ...

I am heavily biased, so take this with a grain of salt:

King makes a giant Flight blessing for all Ancestors.

King and crew place this on the Eden beam to power it. This fails, and the blessing only affects the King, but also results in his Death.

The blessing never breaks, and keeps sucking the Light, preventing Spirits from moving on. Ancestors either die from the Eden disaster, or from natural causes. All are unable to ascend.

Sky kids come along. We are part blessing, part King. We can give the blessing of light, freeing spirits and allowing us to fly.

We free spirits and other Sky kids, but sacrifice ourselves at Eden to do so.

Repeat until we free the spirits and Elders to unite the Light and restore balance to the universe.

sharp lichen
# safe sphinx What is the general background of Sky lore? I'm guessing that Eden exploded and ...

I’m also biased: but here’s my take on the lore:

The Sky world was created by Megabird, a mystical deity of light. The first four ancestor spirits to arrive in this world were the Prophets, who settled in the Prophecy Cave and predicted the future of Sky, including a mysterious person who would complete all 4 Trials.

Other Ancestor Spirits arrive, and a kingdom is formed, led by 6 powerful Elders.

However, a young Eden Elder, being mentored by the other Elders, gets inspired by darkness. Called the King, they get inspired by the darkstone found in the Trials and begin making his own darkstone. Soon, hundreds of light creatures are being killed, as it is required to make darkstone.

He uses the darkstone to create his magnum opus: the gigantic Eden Diamond, made by him to harness all the light in Eden and gain infinite power. However, something goes disastrously wrong, and the Eden Diamond destroys all the spirits and prevents them from ascending. The Elders, working with Megabird, create a counter: Skykids, extremely powerful beings of light that can help Spirits ascend.

The main story follows us helping the remaining spirits, making them ascend, and rebuilding the crumbled Sky kingdom.

Okay so. Remember my take on krills being manta conglomerates? And remember the opposing theory on krills being corrupted versions of large light creatures? What if they’re BOTH right, and large light creatures such as the elder creatures, coelacanths, and so on, are manta conglomerates themselves?

I mean, think about it…

  • there’s a massive jump in size between the largest manta and both the elder creature AND the coelacanth, where did that extra size come from?
  • there’s also a massive jump in number of limbs, and the limbs the elder creature specifically has greatly resemble that of a manta, but don’t increase proportionally in size to the body. They’re still the same size as they are on 6 wing mantas, there’s just more of them.
  • Massive light creatures are extremely rare, only 2 of them are still living and known to exist in game, assuming that all the coelecanth appearances are from the same one
    AND, MOST INTERESTINGLY
  • Current theory on Megabird and the Light in general is that it exists as a conglomerate of all the light in the universe, including the light currently being used in light creatures. Essentially, it is in the nature of light to come together and form similar conglomerates. This is also shown in how the game heavily rewards us for building friendships between each other

I was thinking that it already happened to the corruption victims (as in they were already massive light creatures) and the corruption forced them slightly apart, enough that they were still stuck together but instead of having many consciousnesses all working towards the same goal and functional anatomy, every adaptation they had to function as Many Things in One Body just disappeared

Your idea also works too, although I didn’t think of it the first time. Maybe one process produces corrupted creatures that look more like krill, and the other produces corrupted creatures that look more like the leviathan??
