One minor lore crumb we have from Abyss, is that those broken structures like the one for frightened refugee spirit, used to have a steeple with that gold colored King decoration on top.
The structure from the first seasonal quest is an intact version.

Also a cool detail I noticed, the rotating gold rings in citadel have a slow rotating platform under all of them, which I assume is a power diamond to keep them floating, there’s a giant one in the middle of citadel too, just a neat detail of the technology of power diamond in sky

Only time I don’t see the platforms under the gold rings are the tiny ones in arena when u finish a race

I would like to name it Celacantus/Koilacanthos, sort of like the coelacanthos, a real life fish that was thought to be extinct since Cretaceous

It's name is originated from the greek words Koilos (hollow) and Acanthos (thorn) . Since it seems some could OOB in there and swing inside its belly and see thorns/horns|| I think it could suit this magestic creature

I actually have classification for the Mantas

Ω-Manta - the large manta found in Sanctuary Islands after completing the final quest.
a-Manta - the now-extinct mantas that had many pairs of wings (Spirit variant seen in Vault of Knowledge)
β-Manta - This is the most common Manta variant. Comes in different sizes, the smaller ones do not have the same tractor beam force as the larger ones.
γ-Manta (Pygmy Mantas, Lights) - The smallest Manta variant.

The Abyss is where no light shines, it is the polar opposite of the Light World of Fire.
We know "red" is shown where there is darkness/void.

I just hope TGC will show you creatures that live in the Darkness/Abyss.

I think that "Elder" might have nothing with a Manta.

If you mean the 4winged manta (some call it King/Queen Manta) I might be the only one who think it's a different kind of manta

All other Beta Mantas (as you named, I kind of liked it) have different sizezls but hold the same identical form without a changing (from pRairie to Eden)

While the smallest manta variant, those baby pancakes, have one dorsal horn, both in Sanctuary and in Wind Paths (thanks Lightwhisperer to allowing me to spot that!) so I think they can be the baby form of the King/Queen ones who will grow several dorsal horns

I think it should have been obvious even to me, becaus since Vault we have an example of that exstinct multiwings flatworm manta who has babies modeled to its own shape

in the season of enchantment cave murals of crabs, it is either hinted that they come from the vases containing black goo placed in the floor, or that they came from the floor in retaliation for the ancestors putting those vases there.

something going for the vase take is how they are only seen wherer there are vases: meaning, they are literally vases given life. (eg: the black goo secret storage in the Colosseum)

it's far above ground, and it's not a natural environment for crabs

I have a weird theory, again, based in season of enchantment ||heavens... the season that never stops giving||

we saw how lights from the sky can be fashioned into powerful magic that can be used to make any land inhabitable.

we also see how the ark (carrying the elements, not animals) was forgotten, but not "lost". meaning, it wasn't that crucial at all, it was simply forgotten, meaning one of two things:

1 - the ark wasn't important
2 - they didn't expect to hear back from the crew of that ship

we can work with both, if we assume that those arks like the tale, are sent to start anew somewhere. they are colonists. they enter a desert and turn it into a lush prairie, etc.

but then we must also assume the same thing happened when the elders came from the sky, they "terraformed" a desert planet. making it inhabitable.

but... what if... the Krill & co, are the original inhabitants of those places?
we see Krills riding Storms. And we also see the ancestors disliking rain and preferring/needing sunlight. these two species are fighting for environments.

After spending too much time with Grandma, I just realized the dark plants has those "round" thingos on top of the snapper trap part. The round things are also served by Grandma that pops light, which means dark plants lure light creatures to sap their light

Some say skykids are made of clay, flesh, wax or something else.

The clay skykid idea can relate to them being like golems from Greek Mythology.
Creations that imitate life, as well as being a vessel to carry a flame.
When a skykid dies outside of Eden, they dont decay, they shatter.
Skykid running on stone makes a distinct sound, which is similar to them crashing into walls. A human would not surive a direct hit from red rocks from the sky, but a skykid can withstand the hit and not get squished.

love how sky draws from so many cultures at once but masterfully hides it. in your first playthrough, you just dont notice anything. it generates an environment so familiar yet so distinct from our own.

in your first playthrough you dont even notice the metaphor of the realms being stages of your life. no one does. and then it hits you in the face, turning sky from a cheerful and innocent game into beautiful and tragic poetry embodied as a game

yeah, my favorite is the Australian Aboriginal (AA) myth / concept (philosophy) of the Rainbow Serpent. while the Greeks symbolically represented the Galaxy as a Milky (Whitish) Way, the AA called it the Rainbow Serpent.

That is because, our Galaxy seen from Earth looks like a "Ring" around our planet. A "path" or a "serpent".

Sky:CotL does the same, but their galaxy is called the Megabird, we even see it at the end. and it is simultaneously also a path, made of all the spirits ascending.

I think this symbol might means both Bond and Loss

Let me explain.

We neee to bond with all the spirits of realms to being able to open the seal of the door, to light up the lines of the symbol.
But when unlit it is sortof a warning for us, behind that door there is Loss.

In early development stage of Light Awaits (Sky Old Beta before it was released) you didn't give/lose WL to save the Point of No Return fallen statues (petrified sky kids), you add to lose your emotes. While now we lose just our physical form and wings (which are kindof useless in PNR) but after we pass the rockpads of Orbit we get them back, realizing how much we missed them and restoring our bonds with all Ascended Spirits.

You don't quite comprehend a Bond till the Loss, till there is distance between you friends or your loved ones...!

Last but not least, the Garden of Roses in Starlight Desert!
That wonderful stone gazebo IS shaped like that symbol, in fact is the spot where the Prince realize that all the roses are not like his Rose, it is there that he realize how much their Bond means to him and he felt the Loss (or maybe just the distance) of that's grew them apart.

It kind of rhymes so well with the thought of the philosopher Hegel, in many stages of development of a human mind (from child to adult) or in human history or almost anything, there are 3 phases "Thesis", "Antithesis" and "Synthesis". @boreal nebula to be fair the game transitions so much between areas/subareas and each sub area is usually small enough that errors can be adjusted or reduced by just having most of the map as clouds or paths between the sub areas lol

The Valley map was made by painstakingly going in game and sketching away, not sure I could pull that off with realms that don't have as many vantage points (isle, prairie) or straight up are hostile to staying still in random places (forest, gw). Vault pretty compact so you'll either have it as a circle on a bird's eye view map, or do a separate one showing it from the side.

Would people be interested if I tried doing more maps anyway ? I got a bunch of projects on the stove already but here's hoping to laidback pioneer TS coming this year so I can map the forest.

I feel that the giant turtle could be a predator, not a dark creature, just a predator. I mean you see all these manta with evolutionary features for helping them survive- and wait we don't know if the krill were once everywhere before we arrived. Still, its big, bigger than the what, could be a potential predator.

since the village of dreams connects to the red side of the colosseum, while the blue side doesn't connect anywhere but has elevators / luxury

Valley has a pretty common theme of duality, you can see it in the architecture and sculptures where things often come in pairs; two paths, two towers, two mountains...
No other realm goes this hard on this specific leitmotif, I think its fair to assume red and blue clashing against eachother are simply team colors (who themselves might be associated with their respective half of the realm).
In Light Awaits (pre-release beta Sky), depending on the side you were on, your cape also turned blue or red for the duration of the race...

Extended explanation on the illusion theory, the fact that we meditate to go up each level adds to it as well as the fact that when you complete the elder cutscene you don’t wake up to the same area but a destroyed room that looks nothing like it. This World Overview from the pins is an old idea of the map. The thing I like about it is that it mentions a “final wall” at the end of Dusk. We can see this wall in game, but we don’t get to peek behind it. I wonder if we will ever get a season between this wall and Eden.

Night is no longer this outdoor level, but the final wall remains. And we never see the mountain from Wasteland, so I wonder if we would be able to see it if we passed the wall, as far as lore goes.

I find it interesting that there is rough alignment of seasonal areas with this early development map of “secret” areas.

I also believe that Megabird doesn't have an infinite number of stars, and if they use all of those stars to create life, they still kind of exist, but they don't have any command over their creations anymore.

This could be due to the game with its limitations.

Skykid are implied to have fingers based on official art, and concept art, of them with fingers.
In the game though, it could have been difficult to model and animate skykids with their emotes.

The benefit though is when skykids do emotes and even with their mitten hands, players are able to envisage what the fingers could have looked like. The same therefore applies to their mouthless faces. Even if we dont see them for instance smile, frown or have any expression in the game, we can imagine our skykid have emotions.

Perhaps the spirits with less detail fingers are not as important to the plot of the game, or they did not have any animations at the time of making them to justify individual fingers.

While the paper birds are basic, when you see them fly quickly fly past and at a distance, then the detail justifies the quality. As in, even if the bird was very detailed, the game would not be able to properly show it under specific circumstances.
The same goes to the small koi fish, which are a diamond shape at most. Though justifiable given their size, their movement and placement.

yeah, because I think the trials exist to teach ancestors about their History (wisdom). but these events did happen.

Touching on the animals in the season of Prophecy, there was the turtle, a spider/tarantula, a bat and a lion.
Each creature can relate to their real life symbolic meanings.
The turtle in the trail is part of patience, the spider/tarantula is related to resilience, the bat represented balance, and the lion represented courage.
While the trails say skykids gain a 'wisdom' by overcoming the challenges.

One last detail, when a skykid does the trails for the first time and try to go on a trail before they are ready for it. the game would place down a spirit gate. Upon trying to enter, the game would explain that the skykid is not strong enough, and must see the prophecy guide for which trail to go on.

In their travels, the rock discovered a brand new vista of floating islands. It seemed like this area was a haven for Light creatures, and the rock was happy to watch them dance through the sky. Whoever lived here must have loved the creatures a lot; they even crafted chimes so the wind could sing with the birds and mantas as they passed through.

There are some passive crabs outside of the Golden Wasteland. Namely Sanctuary island (only a small group, the rest are pretty aggressive) and there are ones in the Office, that are also tame enough to be picked up.

It would make sense for the king to be that golden kid:

the golden winged light people (tier 1) are everywhere, and are invisible to literally everyone, even krill. we can only see them because they absorb energy so violently that we see the gold particles moving towards them

The tier two versions around the final crystal also look the same as the king, except they seem to be built for transporting the WL that the tier 1 guys absorb and bring to the shrines in Eden. They’re also seemingly more resilient since they survived whatever killed everyone.

The tier threes are you, doing both jobs as a kind of stopgap. Also it would make sense that you (a kind of king replica) would have the perms to send a bunch of people to sky Eden in space

i think the lore is deeper than we’re anticipating. so we know that the eden elder was the original skykid. i believe that he was an astronaut in a technologically advanced society, and was sent to explore other planets for the possibility of life, and as he crashed into the world we currently know in sky, he found signs of life, as seen in the trailer. then as he integrated into what we will call sky society, the gods of the world (the elders) noticed that he was not of their world originally, and took notice of him trying to bring his people’s technology to their society. we can see the progression of technology through the 5 “worlds” we visit, starting from rudimentary to advanced. desert to vault tech (and as we look at wasteland, we get to the factories, and the machine like attributes of the krill (which were created as builders by the factory workers to advance the technology at a quicker pace)) . they did not like that he was ruining their society, so they fractured parts of the world into realms to slow the pace, hurting themselves in the process because of how difficult a task it was, and also created inner-fighting between them. as skykid almost succeeded in making his world technologically advanced enough to allow us to relocate, the gods encased him in the destruction of his technology, which created the eye of eden as we know it, and thus imprisoning him for eternity. however, they felt they made a mistake, reincarnated skykid (us now as players), and helped him in his journey to bring peace back to the world, integrating the spirits to help him on his journey. as we currently finish the eye of eden, using winged lights as help to get around which are past renditions of reincarnated skykid, we release all reincarnations and spirits as we ascend into a heaven like status, thus bringing peace to all the land… i had a long day at work, this probably was thought of already, but i decided to go with my gut feeling :). 💕🌸💕

Forest has no reason to create; we give them a reason to be creative.

Valley has nothing to compete for; we spark their friendly rivalry.

GW can no longer fight (perhaps due to grief/ptsd). We give them kindness and courage to soldier on (pun intended).

I was reading your astronaut proposition, and I had some questions. If the elders didn’t like the progress of technology, why are they seen helping the spirits? Prairie Elder packs the vases with the butterflies, and the Forest elder helps build the inventions. The vault elder is the one helping to contain the information in vault.

the crystals fall from the mountain like meteors, they mostly end up in forest where they are mined by the elder's forced helpers (possibly prisioners from other realms) after that they are sent trough the boats that someone (very possibly the flight crew) build. they are then sent to the other realms, the crystals underwater are from boats that sunk during the wasteland war

The abyss crew are people who ran away from wasteland war, the reason why the water there isnt polluted is because the krills there are completely contained, the kingkrill, for example was used for study on darkness corruption and as a form of entertainment

edit: one of my examples on them being survivors are the cracked masks and the sword in the deleted abyss poster

So here is the thing: Abyss crew and the people in the arc are from the two groups that fought in wasteland, they possibly gave eachother resources that each couldnt find in their area (eg arc people give plants exchange of fish)

Henloe, sorry for barging in, i just realized: after the devastation caused by the darkstone, why they still need a lot of "resource" aka darkstone to collect? At this point they sorta know these things are like dangerous and chaotic as hell, absorb light while after the devastation light is pretty limited if you're near the core

I think what’s more important is what the Abyss scavengers we’re collecting. We see these diamonds everywhere; are they the batteries? There’s a huge one in vault that powers the elevator, and in village of dreams powering the ski lifts.

Well, since we’re sharing theories.

I think the king was raised by the elders, except the Isle elder. The Isle elder saw the poison of ambition in the King, and refuted him.

In contrast, Vault loved the King as her own child, and raised him the most. As the King grew, he innovated and expanded the knowledge of all the kingdom of Sky.

But like aisle saw, his ambition was too great, and the King shattered him in his ambition. Vault realized at this point her compassion had blinded her to what the King had become.

By then, the King was consumed with his pride and progress, and struck Vault when she confronted her adopted son.

Then the King’s ambition finally consumed him whole, and his desire to reach the heavens and conquer them resulted in the Diamond in Eden.

The Diamond and storm destroyed everything, and the spirits were trapped in stone prisons.

whenever we sit at the white circles, we are meditating, and are then given visions.
these visions range from small hallucinations in the real world, such as the confetti at the races, to entering a dreamlike stance where our conscious goes to a "pocket dimension" of sorts, such as when we meet the elders

vault, the infamous library and elevator up to Eden, seems to be a mixture of both however.
the crystal above us doesn't seem to just power the elevator, but also affect our minds as we meditate under it..
after the first floor, it's completely unclear which floors are real or not

floor 2 very likely may be real, but some features of 2 persist into floor's 3 and 4.
perhaps those platforms seen closer to the elevators are still actually real? they are visually brighter and more concise than the floating structures and islands further off...

a stretchy hypothesis could be that from floor 2 it's all either in our head or all hallucinations, but that the crystal above us gets weaker and weaker until the illusion isn't realistic anymore

or perhaps it gets stronger and stronger every floor, either warping reality around us harder and harder every time we meditate under it, or sinking us deeper into a lucid dream happening in our mind until we aren't even getting up anymore but think we are because it's happening in the dream

personally, id like to think it's at first just an illusion, and floor 3 is happening in a normal room with the trees being hallucinations, but floors 4-6 being completely within dreams, but at the same time this isnt that realistic

I believe that the vault may act more like a projector. Remember the big crystal in the middle can project constellations and stuff? If we meditate below there we're sort of guiding the crystal what to project.

Following yours, my theory is that while slowly going up, rather than normal rooms, the entire vault is this room of 3d projector, the mid crystal like you said before instead shows what's in our mind and what we remember from each realm. No reality warping and the skids are fully conscious, it's just like rn they're in a movie theatre and they watch everything unfold

Hey! so i noticed something about the water in abyss but idk it anyone wants to hear it

well those are just memories, and the scholars were the ones who engineered these illusions

so 1. it's just a gameplay mechanic but
2. i think it would make sense we would relive their memories inside these illusions

a larger major point about it is that you see a lot of spirits walking around and on destroyed structures, hopping between the cracks and taking care not to fall between the rubble and ruins, as if they acknowledge all of that, even tho their memory is likely portraying a pre-war or during-war moment, so the structures wouldn't/shouldnt be destroyed in their memory

that shows that spirit memories aren't showing exactly what happened (great, even spirit memories aren't fully canon xD 💀)
