Already we can find obvious parallels between two sets;
Gloating Narcissist - Valley elders, outfit and paddle that didn't make it to live
Sneezing Geographer - Vault elder, huge nerds that might have secluded themselves away from the world

Less obvious but interesting parallels:
Slouching Soldier - Prairie elder, both are passive and might sleep/drink to avoid dealing with trauma/reality
Beckoning Ruler - Golden Wastes elder, both surround themselves with statues (see what gw elder does with the power of fire in the cave of prophecy wall paintings) and overall had authority (one could argue both had military titles as well).

This leaves us with:
Stretching Lamplighter - Isle elder, I don't see them being greedy and the tiredness and broken mask fit, both are hard at work (beta isle elder had their mask break after summoning boats).
Star Collector - I don't like greedy Forest elder. But some of you headcanon it and I'm not denying it could fit, I just don't like the idea of greedy Forest elder yet here we are.

In the experiments, rats which socialised with people were less addicted to drugs or some form of "obsession" (if you will), seeking out for entertainment and "filling" their lives with it. The rats which were isolated chose to go forward to fill themselves with pleasures such as alcohol.

This was mentioned in a TED talk once and instantly reminded me of it. They all just need to talk with people and actually interact instead of being alone in their version of planets.

Food for thought:
Spells are magical effects the skykids an cast. However the skykid is not able to cast them infinitely.
Whenever they obtain spells from spirits, or the shop, the spells come down to the skykid in a unique starry shape 🌟.
One that is eerily familiar to the King's mask.
If that is not a strong enough connotation. Remember, they are also red. pThink

#

It also occurs to me that Wasteland has lots of Prince or King symbols. (I get confused between the two.) I also associate Wasteland with a military state. Military government and law enforcement, that kind of thing.

…It also feels like – to me – that spells are not something Skykids are inherently able to do. Like leaving message boats or glow for a time, or things like that. It feels like…I'm not sure how to put it. It just doesn't seem to fit in with the idea of what a Skykid is.

On the other hand, it could just be what a Skykid does for amusement.

Either way, maybe spells are a way for a Skykid to extend themselves? Then there's potential for greed (associated with the King anyway), and an opening for spirits to interact with Skykids (in the constellations, spells are "Blessings" from the spirits).

Personally, I like to think that skykids inherently have some magic in them.
Their emotes can give of sparkles of lights which the skykid can summon at will.

Perhaps the spells are perhaps boons the skykids keep within them and can consume. This magic also exists in items such as the staff, the chair, a mask etc.
The ancestors might be able to manipulate light magic as seen in the Switch trailer, though they do not carry this magic within like skykids do.
If anything, I would love to see if an ancestor can be as powerful, if not as powerful as a skykid with magical spells, or if enough skykids can combine their strengths in some way to produce a more powerful magical effect.
(I think I should stop there, before a group of skykids start to experiment with fireworks, lol).

I had to look up what you meant by that and see what you mean, my apologies.

Here are the videos in question, I will assume the animation (as you stated) would be the promotional video. Which would make sense now that you mentioned it, and the other one (or two as it seems) would be the trailers for the game.

From Nintendo's youtube channel, there is only the animation, which was called the 'launch trailer' :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBQRCHusYyU&list=TLPQMjMwOTIwMjHVdujuTRnRfA&index=3
The rest are from ThatGameCompany's youtube channel. The animated video was titled 'Launch Promo':
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO1il8fOPCE&list=TLPQMjMwOTIwMjHVdujuTRnRfA&index=4
These two from the same channel was titles as the announcement video, and the other was called a launch trailer, respectively.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUNQWu_GjUM&list=TLPQMjMwOTIwMjHVdujuTRnRfA&index=2

I misunderstood the titles and just called all of them trailers, not thinking anything of it.
Thanks @cursive galleon for the valid point of clarification. Your logic makes sense and will keep that in mind the next time when mentioning the animated video.

It may be just my interpretation, but here goes: The Elders, knowing that their time in the Sky world was fading away, built structures and murals so that they would be remembered after they died. dark stones are or was a concept to be implemented in the game, these are the stones thought to be the embodiment of darkness and corruption because of its nature to drain light away from things as oppose to light giving life to things. although going to more speculative theories, theyre thought to be the other ingredient for creating refined diamonds that the spirits used for their multitude of tech.

i think that stone might be a symbol of sorts to refer to occupations ancestors had, although the same symbol on a stone can be seen somewhere in forest brooks.

# rigid mural Also I find it interesting how spirits all seem to clutch their heart/core when ...

Yes! I always thought that was interesting. When I first played, I immediately thought what caused their petrifying had something to do with their hearts—or sparks—having a problem, like growing cold or something. To me, I thought they each went through their own spiritual or psychological trauma that led them to freezing up in despair. (Something more akin to Ni No Kuni or something, where ones state of heart has magical effects). pEyes I saw the spirit memories as releasing whatever emotional pain that lead them to that state, but now I realize that it probably was some big fat explosion that just froze them in one go. Idk.

Either way though, whatever returned them into stone, I think it makes their inner light core/heart hurt really bad. So they double up like that in pain sqwarlockDed

rigid mural
#

Consider this: the explosion didn't kill them physically, but it killed them psychically

My theory is that the explosion is whatever caused the "real" world (with the 7 realms and all) to be linked to that limbo world (Orbit and wherever we meet the elders in their cutscene).

hushed steeple
#

That kinda fits with the idea that eden beam was made to help spirits get back to orbit (aside from dying I guess). A connection of heaven and earth type deal.

hushed steeple
#

I rather thought that Eden/Orbit was their home that they were cast out of, and now they're trying to make their way back.

All the statues in Eden seem to be pointed towards the big diamond. And when our Skykid dies, they also reach out towards that diamond before they are consumed completely.

Their pose suggests that they're trying to defend themselves – they're covering their vital organs. At first glance, I also thought that "That's the pose of a person that's been shamed/someone who is remorseful."

frozen pivot
#

orbit, in a way is more similar to purgatory rather than heaven. theres a higher plane than orbit in which u can see the skids 1.0 ascend towards after shedding their bodies.

when we succumb in stormlock, our last movement are of someone trying to grasp something one last time, a futile attempt to grab on to something, or perhaps a call for help towards light. eden was supposed to represent death too

hushed steeple
#

Yeah, Eden represents death.
But if you try to label the levels of the sky, there would be no stopping point. That's why I think Orbit is the highest you can go.
The Skykids that you see returning to the canopy above (that later get turned into ACs) might just be symbolic of the fact that your mission to send them to the stars (the mission stated in Isle) is complete. You don't get to ascend to that plane because your journey isn't over yet.
That's how I interpret it.

upbeat rampart

What is is giving out our wl supposed to represent? Looking back and giving back whatever we can to the Earth again?

wheat cypress

upbeat rampart
hushed steeple
#

That's a fair question, and I don't have the answer to that SkyThink
But when you combine the statement "return the light of the fallen" with the fact that you're giving your winged light to the statues…what other interpretations are possible?
Keeping in mind that losing your own winged lights is basically death

nimble ingot
# upbeat rampart What is is giving out our wl supposed to represent? Looking back and giving back...

Giving your winged light might be to enable the fallen (whether it is the souls of the statue kids, the spirits themselves, or even someone else) to pass on to orbit.
The old name for winged light was stars. Which might help with the symbolic representation of being saved and guided back to orbit.

However, I think there is more to that part of the lore, us skykids are either have not yet solved, or are not yet given all the pieces to see the whole picture.
There are about 108 winged lights dotted across the realms, and there are 63 statues in Eden.
The little Prince did give a clue about the final area of Eden:
It is very cold, drains your light (or life force), strips you of your identity (or makes you forget who your are, there may be something else the game cannot show clearly), and can petrify it victims upon death. The cause of this effect is due to the sheer amount of corrupting darkness in the area (similar to radioactivity, I suppose?) or it is coming from the giant red power diamond. It does not look or sound pleasant.

Skykids tend to clutch their chests when near death. This might be because their chests hold their source of light, it is where they store their light.
This is either their reflex to protect this vital spot on their bodies, or a reaction to pain. That or I like to think skykids have some sense of feeling as they can get hurt, and may recognise emotions.
This is mostly a bare bones theory as I don't have concrete evidence on skykids themselves (not the player) can truly recognise, and express their inner feelings, or feel anything at all aside from the moment before their death, and the prompts to offer the light kid a hug (which the player chooses when they can do this, but that option is the only one the skykids presents).

fair, although i argue with the fact that orbit takes place in space, space being infinitely vast by comprehension, assuming thats true with the skyverse.

i made the comparison of purgatory as orbit and skids 1.0 ascending further, because like the ancestors that gives their wl to us before we descend back, the skids 1.0 couldve just done the same, similar how we give candles to ancestors for their gifts.

to also mention that while there is spirits in orbit, its only the ones we saved and befriended remains to reside whilst the rest before the fall that got to be saved isnt anywhere to be found, perhaps in the higher plane i thought of.

#

upbeat rampart
upbeat rampart
# nimble ingot Giving your winged light might be to enable the fallen (whether it is the souls ...

Then, who were the stars? If yes, they were the stars who needed guidance, why? What lead them in their demise like that?

Could it be that when offering your winged light, they get over the state of life-or-death limbo for awhile but needs more winged light than that go truly ascend? Or would it, instead , mean that our wing light "refreshes" whenever we pass out of orbit, which makes them return back into their stones and waiting for the Skykid to return again?

Also, I think it's 100 itself (you certainly don't reach more than 100 before pnr...I think). 91 from other realms, 9 before pnr. (Keep in mind that sliding race and flying race has the same 1 wl apparently, and orbit is not on count with what I'm referring to at the moment). When adding spirit + statue count (63+37), you get a total of 100.

Also, interestingly, petrify has two different meanings. (Because I love to fact check on words before talking if there's even a slight chance of miscommunication).

a. Changes organic matter into a stone like substance, like calcium carbonate, silicone, or other similar deposits.
(Ref to how our skykid turns into what I assume is rocks due to losing all wl.)

b. Make someone so frightened that they're unable to move.
(Could be that adding on to the rocks crushing them and making them not move, they're also scared as to what would happen in the future--to them, that is).

What I assumed the holding chest would symbolise was that the rocks were too strong but they wanted to progress forward, therefore trying it to survive. Which matches the second meaning to petrify. It could also be the sense of pain, or to be fair, both.

frozen pivot
# upbeat rampart Speaking of the qgs, everyone ascends (including ts) but not qgs?

rather, theyre those that descended, kinda similar to evil spirits in reason of regret, perhaps theirs are to enlighten us while we save the lost in the way, thats why they stayed. each one is unique to their own rights, yet it doesnt involve any of their fragments, but tangible memories as whole, thats why i dont think theyre not ur normal spirits, it even involves things beyond their memories

upbeat rampart
# frozen pivot u make it sound like its a paid contract <:stickerHAHA:669711316771930122> but ...

I didn't realise that--pEyes

Yes and no. What I think of it is somewhat like their soul being split from the body. Now, the qg's soul is a bit different than others...imo, which I theorise to be something like their soul stops remembering, but is still grateful to what you've done. The soul does not know what you did, but you helped them ascend so they're very thankful to you.

Their body does sense it. Their brain stores the memory (assuming they do have a brain) and it's kind of like--initially the soul was set free after a few skykids set them free, then the practice repeated as other joined. But this time, with less emotions, if at all, because the soul has ascended.

I theorise the soul having much lesser memories and their emotions are very simplified, and predominantly happiness (or) nothingness (after ascending), while the body does but isn't emotionally equipped much. But when a skykid makes some steps and redo the quest again, they do feel utmost joy somewhere in their soul and not knowing why.

frozen pivot
# upbeat rampart I didn't realise that--<:pEyes:652348755361923102> Yes and no. What I think of...

so a split consciousness type thing, where soul and body are in different places, seems a fun theory to keep, tho its far fetched imo.

the point of ascension is to shed mortal flesh, only for the soul to remain, in a sense; as celestial bodies. its a known fact that the ancestors are dead, but not dead dead because their spirit remains. to say that they still have a physical body somewhere in orbit doesnt make sense to me. but wat i do agree on is the possibility that theyve lost some of themselves due to the centuries that passed trapped, but not so much so that they forgot the light, and theyve basically coexisted with variants of us before the fall, being the skids 1.0 in eden so them not knowing wat we did seems off.

#

and theres that follow me spirit that have the prince or a skid in their memory

upbeat rampart
# frozen pivot so a split consciousness type thing, where soul and body are in different places...

Yes, sort of! Far fetched, possibly. I'm not really sure

Pretty much yes. Here, the quest giver's mortal body is required, therefore it has to stay behind. Ascension means to ascend their souls in qg's context for me, therefore their body is left behind but their soul has moved forward.

It's not that they had forgotten the light--they are already with the stars in Orbit (purely my opinion) and truly existing there, and ascending after/before skykids 1.0 (most probably after)

#

On another note, is that the mined rocks near their legs?

frozen pivot
#

ah, the thing is the qgs, doesnt have mortal bodies either, and by ascending and shedding mortal flesh, i literally mean physical bodies disintegrating. otherwise that body would just be husk derived of nothing, the very meaning of darkness

idk, my hc is we only do the things we do in a single journey, once theyre saved, thats one off the checklist. one realm after the other, one spirit to the next, until we eventually reach each elders that will help guide those spirits we saved in their realms to ascend with them. so on and so forth until we reach eden and ascend ourselves.

were not the one helping them ascend, were only freeing them for the elders to do the rest

You know, with the whole legacy theme where we pretty much waddle and flutter around a post apocalyptic world which we use in our own way (some things are still functional like power diamond technology, others serve their purpose despite the damage like the valley races)...
You'd think I'd sooner have gotten the idea that like light and dark being part of a whole that became unbalanced, the elders were flawed and in their probably long lifespan did a lot of right, a lot of wrong and probably carry a lot of guilt and trauma.

What I mean is that there's a possibility the king and elders didn't need a hubristic plan to cause such a cataclysm.

#

Only evidence I have: they feel enough guilt to help you.

frozen pivot
#

who knows, theres no ground to prove whether its right or wrong anyway. i will say tho, remorse is not something i'd relate to entities with statuses as theirs, they might know and admit their wrong, but to them, its just another inevitable wrong they did before and will do in the future

im just here for lore. i felt the need to explain my hc, but basically in switch trailer, u can see the scope and scale of Eden(the kingdom, thats wat i call it). its vastly larger than wat we see in the game and the time it will take to traverse all that would prolly be long but as immortal walking war machines, we have all that time. anyway, in that journey we will do our purpose regardless. save every lost ancestors, and with the help of the ones we save, we move on to the next lost, meet more and more, reach our first temple and the rest to follow. if skids dont make an adventurer's guide after rebirth, weve all been lied to

What may help in supporting this theory is how each spirit has an orb of darkness in their chests. Which may represent their hearts being corrupted by darkness.
The use of candles for skykids is to burn away the darkness, thus purifying the spirit with a pure flame. What makes the flame so pure (or holy) is how sensitive it is to the presence of darkness.
Skykids (imo) are like a vessel (or a golem) that carries this flame. When they are hit by a dark creature, or are in contact with polluted waters; they lose part of this light.
The winged light helps expand the amount of light we can carry, the more winged light we have, the more of this light can be used by skykids to fly, withstand hits and survive longer in the rocky rain of Eden.
It is a curious detail how season quest givers (SQG) do not seem to have a grave, or a place where you relive their specific memories, it seems like thier memories are tied to the spirits of their season.
I am also curious to why season spirits lack tombstones. Either they were buried somewhere else, or there is something else that sets the season spirits aside from the non-seasonal ones.

ok, this took me a whlie to get back to.
This is likely unfortunately a case of z-fighting. When the game has two surfaces that are overlappin gone another, the game tries to render both of them at once, causing the textures to merge, or tear into one another.
How you can can see this is when you look at the face from another angle, or when you are closer to the face. Because the eyes will either still sink into the face, or fully stand out.

There is another spirit that unfortunately is suffering from a similar modelling issue.
The Admiring Actor SkyKiss might have inverted UVs on his face. This causes his face under the mask to be transparent and let you see the hair behind his head.

Perhaps the cataclysm simply aggravated a problem that was already there; darkness plants grow in areas associated with trauma (shipwrecks, industrialized areas, battlefields...) so I like to think the sound you hear when triggering a memory really is one popping.
So perhaps the ancestors are still here because they are weighted down by their own pain as well.
Your candles and light could be a symbol of hope they hold onto and cherish.

With the qg I put down my base theory already, they sacrificed themselves so the others could ascend. There maybe needs some kind of physical bond to the real world or else the memory would fade, and the qg does that for them, but the cost is they can't ascend themselves.

I finished ||eden ||recently, and started theorizing, what if the shiny-boi we see before going to ||Orbit ||is the king! It sounds crazy I know, but think about it, Prophecy's ending cut scene showed what looked like a Star/Winged Light ascend and wear The Kings crown, with other ancestors spirits (not elders) dead since they couldn't finish the trials. Since the Elders are alive and are followed by their subjects its safe to assume this is probably before the Stars fell, and that Shiny-boi is the first Prince, but completing the trials would have earned him the right to be crowned king. Now, based on Tom Zhao's backstory timeline which says that the dark stones of the ancestors curse The King's crown and trap him in the storm, it would fit that the allegedly named "Dark Room" is the king's prison. That would explain the shock he expresses when we hug him, and the first term to express us which was Descendants, makes sense. We are not the king nor is he us, but we are what he couldn't be. That also explains why only a sky kid can go to ||eden ||since we are the ones who carry the light. That was my Ted talk, sorry if someone else said this first ill delete it if the original theorizer says so.

To answer the WL in the realms total, here is the tally (you can skip this paragraph to get right to the totals.
*Dawn - 5 in main area, 4 in cave of Prophecy
*Day - 3 in butterfly fields, 2 in caves, 3 in village, 1 in 8-player puzzle, 2 on the temple, 2 in bird nest, 8 in sanctuary island
*Forest - 2 in first area, 4 in forest brook, 2 in sunny forest, 4 in underground cavern, 3 in boneyard, 1 in area after temple, 2 in treehouse (season area)
*Valley - 3 in first area and ice rink, 2 in citadel, 1 in first sliding race, 2 in second flying race, 1 in final stretch of race, 1 in coliseum, 1 in the temple, 3 in dream village, 2 in hermit peaks
*Wasteland - 2 in first area near broken temple, 2 in forgotten ark, 2 in temple with the first krill, 4 in graveyard, 3 in shipwreck, 2 in battlefield, 1 in temple
*Vault - 1 in first floor, 3 in starry desert, 2 in archive, 1 in third floor (the tree one), 2 fourth floor (cosmic mantas and islands), 1 in fifth floor, 1 in sixth floor
*Eden - 1 in first structure, 9 in pnr tunnel

In total there are: 9 in Dawn, 21 in Day, 18 in forest, 16 in Valley, 16 in Wasteland, 11 in Vault, 10 in Eden
So, all WL in all realms are **101 **(102, if you have been to Orbit)
With Wing buffs, the maximum possible winged light is 180if you have been playing the game from the very start, and 178if you have been playing since Android's release.

Also, a bit less a theory more an observation: in Wasteland, the plants and krill have a kinda symbiotic relationship. The plants are protected from being burned by skids by the Krill and it lures said skids to the open for the krill.

Unless we get into my giant mess of krill theories then it doesn't matter much and the krill don't really get anything out of it.

I can how that is a thing.
Though digress a bit on how the krill would be protecting the plants.
Krill dont tend to become more aggressive when a skykid is about to burn, or is burning, or after burning away a plant. I wont count their unreliable behaviour as them being protective, rather than their AI bugging around and causing them to clip into terrain unnecessarily, and looking around randomly.

It would be interesting to see how the dark plants were to expanded in future updates. Such as seeing how do they regrow so quickly everyday, how do they drain the landscape of life, and if they would be able to retaliate when a skykid comes along to burn it away.

One idea I like to include in my fanon is the pumpkin pod as like seed pods. When they are burned, they explode and either damage light creatures nearby, corrupts them, replants and spreads out or even the whole plant emits a screaming sound to attract other creatures (like the krill).

I remember reading in the lore doc that that darkness plants and blooms take some light away from you as you burn them. In the game, I noticed that when you're burning the darkness, you can see red extensions at the rim of your cape. Kinda wondering how to interpret that.

the green and red markers I think are the game's way of indicating how your candle is interacting with certain objects.
To be honest, I am not entirely sure how well they work other than while opening the eden gate.
I use that indicator to see how long to light up a diamond, and see if it is fully activated before moving on to the next diamond.
Other than that, yes the red markers do appear when burning the plant, though I have not noticed how the plant is affecting the light of a skykid other than that visual. It does not seem to be able to drawn a skykid's cape on contact (fortunately), and the indicator feels a little bit redundant when paired up with the whole section of the plant lighting up while you are burning it.

It is still a good observation, @hushed steeple .
This is mostly related to the UI (User Interface) of the game to the player and does not feel like it has any other impact on the game from a lore standpoint.
If it has, then the player's own hands (also the blue tutorial ones would have to be included too.

Hey, so I have an Enchantment theory. So the season had six quests and each one had a different color of light. (I think) They were Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Magic/Light, and Darkness. That’s what I think the symbols were on the season artwork. Now, a big storm came and wiped out the ship and it’s crew. But, before it did, the artwork on the ship looks like they delivered the lights to different places. So look at the first four names of the lights I said. Water, Earth, Air, and Fire. Those are the names of the four trials. So! My theory is that the Enchantment spirits delivered the four lights to the Prophecy caves and then to some of the other realms. (The artwork on the Prophecy walls depicts the elders each having a certain light) So that’s how each of the realms got their geography/traits and how the trails came to be. The darkness (after the big storm) got released and helped spread all of the bad stuff around. The purple light (magic/light) I’m not exactly sure on yet. I don’t know if it is those things or if it’s something else.

I think it was probably the Enchantment crew. I feel like they came from a different place/country on their boat and then just spread their lights to other places. Then they found the caves and the Prophecy guide and gave the lights to him. Then the four other prophecy spirits came and then BAM! The Four Trials

sharp lichen
#

Here’s what I think: the SkyShrug SkyCrabwalk SkyBOO SkyPlayfight SkySneep crew studied under the Prophets (I find the Prophecy spirits to be extremely old), and the Prophets gave them each of the 4 orbs. The 6th orb was given to them by the Forest elder (the exact place where you find it has lots of birds and butterflies) and the 5th orb was given to them by the Vault elder. They then explored the Sky kingdoms (maybe they tried to restore the Golden Wasteland?), but crashed, and the orbs wandered off to their most suitable places (blue orb went to a place filled with water, purple orb went to Vailt, etc).

But the Vault statues show the King in his last moments, or at least in my starfall theory (the King commanded the citizens to provide light for his light orb, which was, to the public, an "Ultimate Offering" to Megabird, when in reality, the King wanted to use it to try and become a god. Heya! Sorry to interject, but if it's alright I'd like to ask a few questions as I'm a bit confused on your theory as (to me atleast) it seems to be based off of things that rely a lot more on how you interpret them then how they're directly shown. Atleast from what I can tell about the murals you brought up they only seem to really show the location of the magic/elements/glowy-thingys found in each trials and nothing about if said Magic/elements/spooky-shiny-stuff are fundamentally important to the world's creation or existence although in my mind it's definitely implied that those elements are important to the Kingdom's establishment and the crowning of the Prince. Beyond that it's kinda hard to see the Prophets being responsible for the creation of the world using the elements since (atleast by what we can observe in the murals) there already seems to be environments around the magic/elements which shouldn't be the case if the murals are supposed to show how the world was created. It also kinda discards the significance of the ||wing|| shown near the end of the credits in ||orbit|| that is (assumed) to be the ||Megabird||.

[My theory]

We were placed to free those souls which remain, I suppose, that's the main thing anyways. An also important task which they could have been given (but not necessarily) making Krills into a more light purified creature and bring the place back to normal.

The latter seems far-fetched--it's probably more of a hope than anything. About the spirits? Yes...ish.

Spirits are divided into three categories:

  1. Seasonal

  2. Normal, basic

  3. Others (n/a for reliving) [idea came thanks to Skychaeologist]

  4. Seasonal spirits. They require you to relive them, and that makes them ascend (I suppose). Them coming back as a a TS isn't a hc for me--to the skykids they're probably on the tree in which you relive them, much like the ones with graves.

  5. Basic/normal: They need to be relived too, but they're going to stay. Difference between seasonal and normal spirits in game is that seasonal don't have a grave, normal ones do.

  6. N/a for reliving: They had already ascended. For instance, in shipwreck, Vault 4p door left where there's one white candle in front of each grave, and the valley sides.

Our task is to make the first two ascend. And I think we've done it decent so far if you relived them all, at least the basic ones. The seasonal ones are still incoming so you're not done yet with them

Fixing realms will probably be our second priority if we relived all the spirits and when seasonal places come to an "end", perhaps, because the main quest is over.

It is a shame that krill wont stick around.

I believe @heady sequoia is correct with the krill playing the part of the snake for the storyline of the Little Prince.
@undone cedar may also be on to something as the krill has other lore based implication in sky.
Granted a collab means most of the lore in there would be thrown out of the window as references to the book (ex. the little prince himself, the characters in the story, and the absence of the pilot himself, even though his plane is in the secret place via the asteroid cape). Though there could be some useful hints to take from the season, even though it is slim pickings.

Just to name a few off the top of my head, the prince being human, gave insightful clue in Eden that the place is not only deadly to all life (since there are only statues and sky kids to be seen in that area) and the place is cold. Another fact the season spirits may have had more interactions with non-season spirits outside of their seasons, as seen with the soldier being seen with other wasteland/warrior themed spirits. And lastly, the fact that the season integrated parts of the book into the game, other outside influences can have more of an impact when linked to the lore of the game. Even though those parallels could already be drawn before the season, now they can be further justified as guidelines to the lore (examples include real life religions, cultures and even philosophy).

Perhaps the elders fell as the prince/king was taking on the trials. This would explain why the ancestors might have had both "gods" (the elders) and a prince/king. Perhaps the prince/king gifted them the elemental powers as crutches for their lost star powers in exchange for their favor.

nimble ingot

When I first did the trials, I thought the golden stickman was supposed to be us, and the prophets predicted us succeeding and using our strengths (symbolized by the elements) to bring light back to the kingdom and elders.
But now I'm not so sure, we see the Forest Elder use Water to summon rain in forest, which, by the time we enter the cave (which requires forest spirits to get in) we know is already there...

#

_ _
Perhaps it's a bit of both ? The prince/king (can I just say Alef) may have gone on a road trip with several other ancestors to deliver elemental powers to weak elders, and we sky kids are following these ancient footsteps to bring light back to the realms and Eden.

nimble ingot
#

In the present, it is the skykids doing the trails to become stronger (how this is the case is if you tried to skip quests, there would be a spirit gate saying you are not yet strong enough to do it).
The spirits did not seem to be able to survive the trails, though attempted them anyway. So that clues in that the chosen one of the trails could either be the first skykid, or the prince.
The reason why I am referring to both skykid and prince separately for the time being is until there are stronger ties that can link skykids to the prince, or the elders.
Even if the skykids can glow, and the prince is of similar size to skykids, there might be more lore for it in the future.

rigid mural

I like to think Sky history revolves in cycles like a wheel. Rise, peak, fall, ruins, healing, rise, peak, fall... ad infinitum. Perhaps for a time Alef was the new hope like Sky kids currently are, until they fell.

The most likely answer would be the Megabird.

Its presence is represented by the chiming of bells, the golden colour similar to that of a flame, flight and light.
The skykid arrives at home, and is guided by bells to start their journey in Dawn, and then the other realms. As the skykid travels farther, they bells are less and less present al the way up to Orbit, where once again you hear bells chiming and a ginormous portal that takes you home.
Personally, I digress from the home is not real debate, due to the lack of indicators.
There are signs of life with the fish, spirits can visit the skykid in home, other skykids can interact with each other similar to a social area, and the place plays a significant role in the plot. It is where they are born, where they return to and where their journey started.

nimble ingot

As for the verbal language of sky, one can assume there is one, though the game does not show it.
The characters in general do not have mouths, they can gesture to things and there are instances where one can assume they are talking, though perhaps this is the game's way of leaving it to the player's interpretation of what would be said. For example, the lumberjack might have had to explain his mistake, the scolding student would had something to say to the baffled botanist and so on.

If anything, one of the very few creatures to have a mouth that can be seen, is the whale creature.

Personally, chat does make communicating with players convenient, though when two or more players are together and cannot understand one another, then they default to the chiming and gestures to communicate some things. There are players that seem to go by with gestures and chiming, unless they need to say something and the other player can understand them.

A skykid's chime sound is similar to the visual 'bubble' from a bell's chime sound. Perhaps while the skykid can alter the pitch or sound of their chimes to imitate other things (human, bird, fish, manta, crab, jellyfish and cosmic manta), the sound they make is not a perfect imitation.

If the ancestors could speak, I really wonder what they would sound like. Even though the game does not show it, or cannot show it.

Before i unlock the chat (wich is super usefull) i use emotes to communicate with friends and strangers. In fact, they play many expressions or emotions through your avatar. For exemple, when i guide a moth, it's very easy to point at things, ask for his/her help, teach him/her things to do or not... If you add the stances, you have a whole body language that people can easily understand.

I wonder, would it be cool to offer help to players?
Similar to a new player enabling the guide option for players to help them, but instead it is other players offering help.

I wonder though if one day there would places on the way to the top, similar to the social area at the very start, where skykids can take shelter from the dangers and relax.
Eden is one of the few places with the least amount of light/charging spots. Which may force newer players to save their light. But when they have access to a charging propr, of have friends nearby to help, they can try to fly in Eden.
I understand how flying in Eden is not a simple feat to pull of at first, but once you get the hang of it, I would really like to see a place for players with enough experience to test their skills.
Something like a labyrinth, or a wind tunnel for skykids to fly through or use to escape krill and other hostile creatures.

If so, then I can see how that squeek sound is similar to that of a crab. It is mostly an indicator to you, the player, for the skykid trying to either slip off an edge, or not able to walk onto a surface even if you try to get them to jump or skip off something they can stand on to something skykid thinks they cannot.

It is meant to be cold I suppose, though I am not really sure. (Well, side question-type-realisation, would light depletion by red rocks mean that they are very cold instead, and depicted in red not for warmth but danger?)
Additionally, yes, the winds do seem to be powerful, as well as the rocks which depletes the skykid when in contact. Understandably so.

And also as people here had said, krills detect skykids when they're on light. So all these three factors combined (krills, rocks [both red and hard hit ones] and the temperature), it'd be natural for the skykids to make sure their light stays more intact.

A wind tunnel might help, but I suppose it would need some sort of moderation, at least a bit, because then it'd be less challenging. Which actually leads to another question: Would the krills see Skykids through the clouds?

nimble ingot
#

Logically, a place so high up as Eden would be freezing. Though since Sky can side step most laws of reality, that and the lack of snow makes determining that fact hard to prove on its own. That is why the little prince shivering in Eden really helps with confirming that fact.

Also, the wind tunnels could be very dangerous if the skykid accidently goes down the wrong one, or flies into red rocks lining the sides, or might even run into krill or other dark creatures that could have made a part of the pipe system their lair.
All in all, the pipes would be a nice and convenient hiding place, but would still have dangerous encounters hidden inside.

upbeat rampart
#

Additional fact that I found (because I just went to an Eden run) is that the red rock rain in pnr happens only if you start moving. If you're taking shelter, then it does not hit on the surface yet. What makes them do that?

Definitely wouldn't lie that I thought of someone purposefully tossing (...well throwing hard) those red rocks whenever skykids come near. Or it's natural and they kind of throw themselves on spot (like crumble, if you will) whenever they come across a light creature. But I still can't see why there isn't a red rock rain 24/7 instead solely because of the Skykid's presence and instead chooses to be timed to when the skykid steps out of their comfort zones usually.

I suppose snow cannot reach that place any longer--it's higher than clouds but not higher than the wind (but I have no scientific knowledge if it is true so I would have to check up on that--whether it could be possible or not).

That could be a nice alternative admittedly, but would red rocks attach itself to clouds? Besides I'm not really sure whether you see clouds up in Eden (or maybe I missed, surely could be the case)

Edit: You can have winds above clouds apparently.
Indeed there is wind above the clouds. Wind stops around 5-11 miles above the ground, in the stratosphere. Up to that point there are winds.

I like that theory!
Though think that might be a timed event you happen to have fallen into while testing it out.
Staying in a safe spot does not make the rocks stop, the waves of falling red rocks have a pattern to them. Sometimes, they might hesitate or even speed up, though that is uncommon and might be caused by the internet connection or the server syncing up with another instance.
Whenever you find a good rhythm, you can get around that place effectively. Though if you get too cocky, you will get hit hard by a wave of red rocks. 😦
[edit about no snow, you have a good point. If Eden is higher than the clouds and it is rock rain weather, there would not be any snow. Goodness, I wonder if Eden would have snow if not for the storm, it could have looked majestic! Though you are right, no snow, just painful rocks.]

As for the blue sky @rigid mural, it is not a bug but a minor oversight. Some places in Eden will trigger the sky to change colour. The blue sky usually triggers when you are in the cave. You can even see the shift when you look at the entrance of the pnr tunnel and either head deeper inside to see bluish white clouds, or back to the opening for everything to shift to reddish darkness.

rigid mural
#

I am really interested in the geography of Eden tbh. I recall that concept map of the world of Sky where the realms are arranged in a spiral around Eden; my theory is that it's entirely possible this was kept and the sky kids are using the winds from the storm to travel the realms, hence the impression of a linear and fluid path where the winds conveniently guide you to the Light.

#

Posted this here already but here's a thing I made so my point is clearer.

upbeat rampart
# nimble ingot I like that theory! Though think that might be a timed event you happen to have ...

I tried to be safe (note that this was before the rock rain) by staying close to the <lamps>*. They hardly came near me, especially in the very beginning.

But as I went forward, yes, it seemed more hard on the Skykid. I remember rushing out to give wl to a stonekid without a <lamp> nearby and lost roughly 3 wl. When I went forward and lit another <lamp> and took shelter, the rocks seemed to hardly approach, if at all reach out to me (yes I took defense, but I feel sure if I stepped out of there I would have lost about 5 wl). Then went out and tried to give light and the red rocks suddenly seemed to come out of (probably) nowhere again and lost some wl there as well.

[Rock rain is another whole area which is just chaos, not that area. I suppose it went wild since the diamond is more close there]

*the stone carving objects which you see in pnr which resembles the "return back" area; wherein you place your light just to be safe with the wl you have instead of losing them rapidly

*Edit: ran pnr again, and yes, safe spot included

nimble ingot
#

Oh you mean the safe spots?
Then you are correct with the rocks never reaching them because they are shielded by derby and crumbling walls.
While some are very convenient and safe, others are but exposed and you can still get hit by rocks despite taking cover.

upbeat rampart
#

Well yes, safe spots with the lamps. The red rocks doesn't reach there often in comparison to giving the stonekids our wl in the middle of the place.

Now I seem to have a sudden theory of King's soul fusing (at least partly--the corrupted one) to the diamond. Probably ridiculous but the rock rain pattern does make me think of that; as if they're just throwing it to tease skykids in a way. I don't really have evidence so there's that

nimble ingot
#

If the rain were to only fall if a skykid is in sight of the diamond, then it could be sentient enough to hurl rocks at skykids only when it sees them.
Though this is not the case, even though it would be a fun idea to entertain.

The storm is likely more of a natural disaster that pours down the rock rain in waves. With storms in real life, rain would not just be a constant down pour, or an even blanket of water falling from the sky. Real life storms is a torrent of clouds that release water. Because of the wind and the clouds being an inconsistent mass, the rain would pour down in waves or in bursts.
In Eden, the rain is not just a series of stops and go's. It is a chaotic storm where you have to pay attention to where the rocks are raining down and where it is relatively safe enough to move.

The king could be very likely trapped in the diamond, though as far as I know about sky lore, it is one of the biggest mysterious that is still debated and theorised about.

rigid mural
#

I suppose this was implemented as a mechanic so moths don't get discouraged by their low wl count and older players face a challenge and don't have to wait ages to die and go on the next part, so not sure this could be used for lore.

rigid mural
#

As for the whereabouts of the king, the details about him are voluntarily vague.

All the devs confirmed was that the Eden Elder is no longer around to be saved.

The only depiction we are sure is of that Eden Elder is in that vault cutscene where they're seen holding an orb in front of Eden after we saw the other elder constellations.
I'd like to note the crown, which is the original simplified constellation that we can also see as our favorite friends constellation, could represent both the headwear of the figure and the top of Eden.

My personal theory is that the king/seventh elder can't be in the crystal if he's no longer around to be saved; he's gone. Unlike the others that are in limbo in spirit, and whose bodies are spinning around the beam if the beta oob from 2019 is canon, the king might truly be dead. He probably got pulverized by the shock, or became the storm itself. I don't think he's an antagonist more than someone either ignorant on what he was experimenting with, hubristic or both.

Generally just go all the way back instead or let the wind control and roll by behind to escape the krill (which works like 50% of the time, seems like this krill has a better eyesight than the others, or it's just me)

one good way of getting past it is doing the following:
Method 1
1 - Get to the far left pillar that is the furthest out.
2 - wait for the krill to be just above the tunnel, going from left to right.
3 - Head to the crumbling statues, mind the rocks (you wait there for a moment if need be).
4 - Then make your way up. Depending on fast the krill returns, you can even have enough time to get the wl before quick marching up tot he tunnel.

Method 2 (though might be risky...)
1 - move over to the far right, as far as you can. There will be a ledge that you can hide under.
2 - Wait for the krill is about to move from right to left (as soon as it re-emerges, and before it passes over the tunnel).
3 - Make your way quickly up there while avoiding the rocks and the wind.
4 - Make your way to the tunnel as quickly as you can, then you can slowly and carefully go back to get the wl.

Hope these help, players seem to have more success with the first method as far as I learned.

Interesting to see that while the LP and Rose might not be canon, the season spirits could be, although for some reason they are... stuck in a dream (they probably didn't live here and the place could be more like an allegory of their life).

It also kinda gives material to those of us that thought a good chunk of Valley spirits were soldiers, since the bowing one is being associated with those two Golden Wastes militaries.

nimble ingot
#

Agreed. Thanks to that season, one can draw more links to other outside materials like peter pan, the pied piper of Hamelin, Pinnochio and more.

I returned from eden. I stayed out there long enough for my luck to run out and cost one winged light lol. Took that as a sign and reminder of what I am dealing with and went back home.
I'll post me findings here.

As observed in a previous expedition, the assets are severely torn up. I think what happened was since these objects are out of bounds and far away from the where the player can see them, vertices were deleted or torn out while building the level. Unfortunately, where the tower was, the one that looked like the fish/bird pillar (the weathervane as I like to call it), is a bundle of broken assets that looked like the tower from a distance.
Despite that, I did take better screenshots and can now share them here.

#

Since slowmode is a thing, please be patient with the 13 images that will come up every minute or so.

This shows those pillars off to the left of the pnr tunnel, where the krill would turn around to go left to right.
I wondered if they had any symbols on top, but they were just broken pieces.

#

@rigid mural
This is closest I can get of the weathervane seen on the far right of the ship.
Again keep in mind that I am not suggesting that this disproves your theory. In fact, I think there is a good chance that this is/was a boat. Never mind the bias, I am determined to find more evidence to support this.

#

These towers remind me a bit of the valley towers. Though these are badly crumbling away.

#

This might be the best shot of the left side I can get.
To achieve this is to go to the pnr tunnel while OOB, then try not to get too close to the playable area outside the tunnel, then the sky will stay blue and help see better details.

You are right about some of the rocks being unnatural. These were either a carved foundation of the city, but parts did feel like the hull of the sky boats. I just need a good reference to compare.

@rigid mural
I did notice the OOB of orbit's ascension part to have changed, and am trying to explore there every now and again.

I was afraid of losing wl but after a while you memorize where each of them is, so I generally gather them back within the first half of the week during my candle runs lol.

#

More on the Isle of Dawn door tho, notice the mantas ? Perhaps the idea of a migration/pilgrimage from the farthest corners of the kingdom to Eden was kept too. You fly alongside mantas, birds and other migratory light species after all.
Maybe the ancestors followed that too, which could explain the stages of life and day cycle theme !

Isle Elder could have been special as a psychopomp that ensured souls from Orbit (if that's where they go when they die) fell and/or were reincarnated back in the kingdom, so they could begin the cycle anew.

Their ferryman themes makes me think of some depictions of l'Ankou, who is traditionally depicted like your usual personification of death with a scythe and creepy cart in britton folklore, but on more coastal regions... he got a boat instead of a cart !
This kinda fits since boats are a recurring object in sky, along with water... which you also see in the elder cutscene ! It looks like it takes place on a dock ! r6Isle

Nice observation! pWow
Could it be a representation of the "consequence" of the technology that Forest Elder created? The temple of the Forest elder is where the power diamond was created for the first time - and quite possibly used there, too.
And the first area in GW is where we first find out about the dangers of krills, and of the realm itself.

humble creek
#

Honestly I have no idea-I only recently really got interested in the lore so im very behind on..all of it. Up until that point, my headcanon was that each realm was the same area but through a progression of time. Like desolate isle grows grassy prairie and then forest trees then booming valley civilization and then gw ruin and then vault being the kept history of it all. Which doesn’t make much sense (Ik that now ha) but I do like it being a consequence of technology. I don’t think any other areas have exact same design like it seems this does? Similar structures, designs, of course but I can’t think of another repeated room

What if...
The reason why the statues are in eden is because the soul trapped within are not worthy of passing on. Not just because they are not strong enough, but they have not payed the toll?
What if, the king was trying to control who can and cannot ascend with the power of the power diamond. And as punishment, now he is bound to the diamond and forced to live in darkness until he accepts his responsibility. Where that leaves the skykids is they are to help the spirits to orbit and bring the winged light to eden. By offering acceptance to the light kid in the void, we are extending ourselves to the lost prince of sky (still working on that theory), and it is up to them to accept the gift in order to help each other.
What is still a mystery though is why the cycle is set to repeat itself. If we all are trapped in a time loop, how do we move forward with it?
Perhaps only time will tel...

I am reading up on the last pieces of the first half of my mega theory. When I am done typing it out, I'd happily share it and review it with people.
It is a collection of research material that I gathered about the game, it is a pieces of real world culture, literature, myths, folklore, religion and philosophy I think is related to the lore of the game.
This can be used in other theories.

This is a great theory!

Could make sense, which also gets me to another one, though I'm not so sure if it could be possible.

King has himself divided into 3 different parts-
One: the very corrupted part that needs saving, taken on form by the 63 stonekids. (And yes, there were more while going to it, noticeably before the last krill. Perhaps they're somewhat irredeemable, that's why we cannot offer our wl to them.)
Two: Neutral parts of the soul, which was trapped in the Diamond.
Three: These were divided into two--as the imprints which had his past memory and levels up the cape, signifying experience, and another being the Skykid themselves who need to get experience (and more light) enough to get in and rescue his more corrupted sides by giving the experience (and light) to make them get through.

To ascend permanently and stop the loop, perhaps we need to seal the diamond and get the King's soul out of it, which I believe is more than half of himself. When done so, he'd be free and would take more control and perhaps might make the stonekids gain permanent un-corruptedness. If we don't, till then, the loop continues, and the winged lights given "resets" (or loses them) and it's to be done all over again.

Alright.
There is a poem by Percy Shelly about a King called Ozymandias. This was the Greek name for Kin Ramesses.

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, king of kings;
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozymandias

In sky, we have a king who ruled over every realm, and his realm was the greatest of them all. But all that is left of him and his people are crumbling ruins and dangerous dark creatures.
Eden was once a holy place that towered over the kingdoms. The highest point that bridged the mortal world with the divine.
Now the top of the castle is being swept away in a storm that would not rest, and the spirits are trapped in their memories, with no one left to remember them.

# upbeat rampart This is a great theory! Could make sense, which also gets me to another one, th...

I like that and agree with you on that.
There is a trinity with the king. What I could find to support this is the name Eden and the King.

In Christianity, God is known to be consist of 3 parts of a whole (3in1). Neither part is seen as separate identity, or even a separate individual. They are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
While you can refer to one, the other parts are still connected and never separated.
In the world of Sky, I suppose what happened is when the King and the prince ruled, they were with the Megabird (the holy spirit), but when they were corrupted by the dark stone (which represents humankind's technology and/or knowledge), they could not connect with the megabird and the world fell into darkenss.

While dark stone is a natural part of the world, I theorise that it is represented by the forbidden fruit that naturally existed in Eden. When mankind did not listen and got too greedy, they were cast out of Eden and not allowed to return.

While a skykid may look human at a glance, they are not. They cannot be harmed by fire, can fly, and can be harmed by impurities (polluted water and corrupting darkness).

Perhaps the skykid can bridge the gap some day, though at the present are not yet strong enough to do so. So in the mean time, all that they can do is find more people to save and grow in strength.

I noticed these arches at Vault summit. I've seen similar structures in Wasteland (first krill area, to the right) and Eden (if you look carefully past the rock rain, and it's in a YT video as well)

I got pictures of the castle top as you fly past it. But none of the thrones there or of the view from up top.
Sorry, @hushed steeple
If need be, I can go there and have a look.
It is not an issue, I just have not taken the time to take pictures there since the last update that changed the area.

As for the throne area, this might be a stretch, though it is possible the top of vault is a vague projection of what part of Eden looked like. Not the very top, though at least where the Vault area would have connected to a temple in Eden.
Also, the diamond holes might be a reference to how the elders used to rely on power diamonds, but since the diamonds are gone, the elders are weakened.

Also also, just a wild though, since Eden has not throne to speak of and the king is represented by the symbol of a diamond. I wonder of the glowing diamond above the thrones represents the king. Given how he is always depicted as above the elders. Just a hypothetical idea.

More or less, yes. At least I can vouch for that idea.

Skykids are notoriously naïve (in my opinion) and innocent by nature, as they learn through imitation and have not, or could not, fully understand what certain thing meant.
For example, the crying light miner is in mourning, which the skykid can pick up, but also can interpret crying as similar to throwing a tantrum (as the level 3 and 4 emote shows). Or the fainting soldier that looks badly hurt and collapses, yet the skykid sees it as just fainting. There may be more examples, though these ones feel like they carry the point across well.

The spirits of sky do seem to have professions that you can see in their memoires, their names, their emote or with their clothing. Though some of these facts are not as obvious as others.
Some spirits with obvious professions would include the accountant from season of the little prince, the admiring actor from season of rhythm, the apologetic lumberjack, the distraught hunter, the crying light miner, lookout scout and so on.

I think sky kids look like, well, kids with candles, because they're the new generation.

In celtic lore they made a difference between the soul ("you") and living essence (what makes you alive). The flame could be that living essence (since its extinction puts you on the verge of death), and so much more. It could also be your willpower and wishes (calling makes you see where to go) and it could be hope (as you deliver it to the spirits) as much as it can be litteral light.

You're a new flame in a ruined world, with ancestors passing on the torch to you. You grow through each level you pass through and ultimately sacrifice yourself to, spirit by spirit, candle by candle and step by step make the world you're in liveable.

I've been pondering this question a lot lately, what is the deal with the diamond symbol? I ask this because everything associated with the generic symbol of a diamond has become very contradictory. On the one hand, power diamonds are blamed for corrupting king and country, and even the symbol for the king is a diamond with an elongated top typically. In the war of gw, there are two shields. One set, faces away from the temple, suggesting those are the shields of whoever's side was defending the temple. The attacking group (shields facing towards the temple) have diamonds on them, while the gw temple shields have suns. All of this points to the diamond being a symbol of the king, and darkness. On the other hand however, the diamond appears virtually everywhere in the kingdom of sky, on the clothing of our ancestors, on the symbols of our architecture, and even on the heads and backs of our own sky kids. How can a symbol of darkness, I ask myself, be present on the very faces of the beings tasked with bringing light back to the kingdom? The elder statues on the realm gates even have diamonds on their foreheads, excluding the isle elder which I find very interesting, but putting that aside, all this makes me think maybe the diamond hasn't always stood for darkness. Maybe the diamond was a previously neutral symbol of maybe power or technology that the king took and erroneously used it for something it didn't actually mean or signify at the time. My question in short would be, does the diamond symbol in sky stand for light? or for darkness? or for neither.

hushed steeple
#

Several questions packed into one pEyes
I like your observation with the Wasteland shields! And I think that might have the answer to one of your questions…
When you discover something new, you become obsessed with it. stickerShiny Maybe on some level, you lose the sense of right and wrong, you lose touch with reality. Maybe that's what happened with the King. Most headcanons suggest that the king was "corrupted", meaning there used to be an incorrupt version of the king.
I looked at the diamond on the Skykid's head closely and there's a red border around it. It gave me the feeling that it was branded onto the Skykid's head. But who would do that, and why?
Notice that in most cases, the spirits don't have it. It's disguised/hidden for Elders, even if they do have it.

nimble ingot
orchid crypt
#

Personally, I think of the diamond symbol as indicating a "container of light", something which is capable of housing and harnessing the light in some way. We're able to interact with powered mechanisms by putting light into the diamonds like a power source (e.g. doors and switches), and sky kids are able to gain more flight power by absorbing more winged light. I don't think the diamond itself is inherently about darkness, but that darkness is a natural byproduct of it when it's industrialised too far (i.e. whatever is going on with the Wasteland sludge pipes).

With the sun/diamond symbols on the shields in Wasteland, I think of them as representing two clashing ideologies: the "diamond" representing the side that wants to further harness and industrialise the power of light through artificial means, and the "sun" representing the side that wants to coexist with the light in its more natural state (we see similar symbols to the sun on the cave murals in Isle of Dawn when the stars "fell", as well as the prop/instrument closet at Home).

I think they are more or less ordered, and I wondered if someone here would be interested in reading it and giving me feedback about it (is there things that don't make sense? Does something conflict with something in-game?)

In case someone wants to read them, my notes are too long for a single discord message, too, so would it be okay to send them as a document? Or should I put multiple messages?

Speaking of the diamonds are they connected to the “war” in the waste land

wanton nest
#

That sounds cool

nimble ingot
# wheat cypress I've been pondering this question a lot lately, what is the deal with the diamon...

Ok, here is a over view of theoriee that have been discussed.
You can look them up in the lore docs or use the search feature on discord with keywords.

Power diamonds.
These can be seen all around the realms powering boats, doors, platforms, trigger points, bridge pieces, mechanisms, elevators, and even as sources of light and energy.
They are verstaile in their use but not permament, sustainable or reliable power sources.
They can become darkened that represents them being inactive or no charge, blue for they have power bht not activated, yellow when they are being powered and/or powering something (active), and red when they are corrupted. There is aslo white diamonds, though I am not sure what they do.

Two shields theory in battlefield of Golden Wasteland.
There are two sets of weapons that are the longblades with diamond shaped shields with a diamond symbol on it, and a rounded shield with a sun or star symbol it and a spear.
While the elder uses a spear andround shield, his constellation is of the diamond shield (still looks like he has his spear though).
It is unclear if both sides were fighting each other, or if they were fighting something else. It is also unclear who or what these soldiers were given their large size making it very unlikely to be ancestors (unless they were giants).

The diamonds are a key part of the lore of the game, though there is very little cankn lore addressing them (that I know of).

Hope this helps.

nimble ingot
# hushed steeple Off topic but can someone give me a rundown about the lore of the king and princ...

The king and prince (either being the same person or seperate beings) ruled over Eden.
The kjng ruled over the other realms too, for he used to be greatest and most powerful elder.
His role was to control the power of the djamonds and lead the people.

The king and Megabird would in theory have worked together to maintain the balance of life and earh, light and dsrkness. But when the king got corrupted, everything fell into turmoil.

In thebold lore, there was a great explosion that affected all the realms, and the ancestors along with the light creatures suffered from its effects.
The krill are confirmed to be corrupted by the darkness.

Now, while thevking or the prince themselves are not in the game to be saved, their presence snd clues of them still remained.

There is also a theory about the lightkid (what I call the light version of our skykid in the void after eden and before ascending to orbit) being possibly the lost prince of sky.

the castle, or what is left of it, is floating above Eden now. You would be flying past it on your way to orbit while ascending.

The few places where you can see depictions of the king in the game are in the all elder's cutsecene in vault, the mural in the water pond under the office portal, the giant stone statues in the point of no return area of Eden, and the turrets/towers in golden wasteland (king propaganda statues).

The king of sky would have been the 7th elder, the elder of Eden way back in the beta of the gsme.
Back then, the elders has hebrew names snd the realms had similar bit different names. You might hear players use one or the other when talking about it.
You can look up a concept artist called, Tom Zhao for a visual tour of the game's development. There you would also see art of the king and the prince.

The statues I was referring to are the large ones that tower over you in the last area kf Eden, where it is called the point of no return because there is no going back and you will have to sacrifice your winged light.

The gate to eden shows all the elder's masks except Dawn's.

And lastly, the king being trapped in the diamond is a fan theory, which has not been confirmed. So it is still an open dabate on that mystery.

According to interviews on Youtube.
The game is following a story structure vaguely similar to the Hero's Journey, however with an important difference.

There is supposedly a new story structure called the Collective Journey.
Where there is not just one hero doing eveything, but people coming together to do something better for the world.

In a way, the skykids are like protagonists, but they still do their own thing.

Good question.
Parts of the old lore has been changed but some of them stayed valid.
What I would do is look for more evidence that can support it, or set aside as either plausible theory, or as old lore (obsolete, no longer relevant).

Comparing the old lore to the new lore sometimes feels like, on a meta level, comparing the old testament to the new testament in the Christian bible.

On just now so apologies for late answer if it was me (hh)

So previously I theorized of the King having three forms--neutral trapped to diamond, good being skykid and wl, corrupted redeemable being stonekids after pnr and stonekids before (noticeably near last krill) are irredeemable parts of the King.

So to seal diamond in the sense extracting neutral King off from the diamond, helped by the good side of the King (us). We're therefore just helping ourselves, but with the help of Megabird (who I theorise to make sure the imprints stay in their places which skykid last found).

In helping the neutral side, the King ascends mostly (probably a more permanent wl to the stonekids which doesn't reset for them too, and saving them) but because of some of his irredeemable parts, he also stays behind in some stones.

I feel like...

Water trial/Forest: you have to be patient since going in without thinking will end up being your demise; gotta pick spots to wait at and move ahead when you're ready to. Virtue is understandably Patience.
Forest Elder could have lost that Patience, hence why they don't wait to take your light.

Earth trial/Prairie: both can be tedious if you get lost or give up easily, although Prairie is a noob level so of course you don't feel difficulty yet. Thinking about the multiple puzzles here too. Virtue is Persistance.
Prairie Elder could have lost that, hence why they cope by sleeping (a symptom of depression).

Air trial/Valley: pretty obvious, both require you to think fast and be agile in some way. Virtue is of course Balance.
Valley elders could have lost that... is that why one of the halves of some of their statues have bits chipped away ? Perhaps they had an identity crisis (siblings don't deal well with being constantly associated and compared with eachother)...

Fire trial/Wastes: both have you face hostile environments (darkness/windless desert full of dark water) and creatures (shadows/krill), so it goes without saying the virtue is Bravery.
GW elder could have lost it as their will eroded from the war (nothing is made to live wars, only survive them at most), might have switched sides or took refuge within their bastion.

sharp lichen
#

Eh, it’s somewhat of a stretch, but a believable one. It all depends on what came first: the Trials or the Elders. If you believe the former, then maybe the Elders got inspired?

nimble ingot

The prophets could have predicted the arrival of the winged light, or the sky prince. (not little prince).
