Honestly masks just seemed to be a form a projection by what I am guessing. We mostly get masks from the spirits and from what we know they they hand them over as a form of essence that can be used to be placed on the character, it’s now exactly there in itself like cloak, it just a informed struggled light that is added on to the face as is the hair, we lose the mask because it just like the hair, it parts of us, but it’s just an add on to the controllable body to give appearance to the sky child

so I was finishing up my lore notes on the spirit memories in Isle of Dawn and i learned this about the Season of Prophecy
-the Prophet of Water taught Hide'n'Seek Pioneer and Waving Bellmaker
-the Prophet of Earth taught Blushing Prospector and Laughing Light Catcher
-the Prophet of Air taught Applauding Bellmaker and Stealthy Survivor
-the Prophet of Fire taught Slumbering Shipwright and Pointing Candlemaker

there were 8 students in the prophecy cave, and each prophet had 2 students

Waving Bellmaker and Laughing Light Catcher seemed to be clumsy (bellmaker fell in water, light catcher tripped in class and also fell while climbing a ledge)

This will just worse everything, for this scammed child and all the people that will be part of a scheme to become unpaid employees of each other

And Mega bird is the boss to everyone that makes them do their endless work of getting candles, making items to sell for said candles, making people go through Line one day a week only to get more candles to spent more and having to make more as more saleman are made, with the really unpaid salesman Stan around as just free reminders of Megabird influence.

Maybe there is no light energy and dark energy, just energy. Light and darkness use that energy for different things

Something weird i just thought of is that it seems like the deeper into the sky kingdoms you get the generally darker they get

But then the transfer back is more lit up, then plunged back straight into darkness (im probably overthinking this though)

The "bump" you mentioned, which is probably from Hidden to Triumph and then ongoing to Wasteland, might be due to the fact that we are in a supposedly very cold area during the Triumph part. It is true though that in the entire area (as far as I saw it on the fly), no dark plants or enemies can be found at all, unless I missed something. Ah, wait, at the very end of Triumph, there are some caves on the left (where you can get one light kid btw., gotta catch 'em all I say), where you can indeed meet darkness.

The second bump is the Vault, in between Wasteland and Eden. I suppose it is some kind of frontier of research or thirst for more knowledge, which is coincidentally or on purpose located very near Eden, which might be one of the "true" secrets of the world to be solved. Thus it is relatively free from Darkness due to its tight security measurements. But if you stray from it (by entering the caves along the way), you'll meet many crab enemies, because the security or barrier or whatever could not handle all darkness.

About light and darkness, isn't it that they are just the complement of each other? No light means darkness and no darkness means that everything is illuminated in light, no?

Wait, wait, isn't light even only a small visible part of the entire spectrum of electromagnetic waves or energy itself? You might say that "darkness", as the lack of light, can consist of radio wave, gamma wave, micro wave, just every types of energy (WiFi, Bluetooth, you name it!) but not the visible spectrum in between around 400nm and 700nm, no?

Hmm, okay sorry.. back to fantasy world mode.. I think light and darkness is a rather deep rooted since ancients, since darkness represent the unknown, what you cannot see and understand while light is something illuminating, what you clearly understand and thus where you do not perceive any harm it it. Thus I can agree on the fact, that one might think they are natural or universal enemies.

I find it interesting that the elders are more towards the cursed/indifferent end of the scale. But thinking on the valley elders and forest cutscenes... They are quite indifferent to us skykids. They are similar to krill in that they snatch at the light.
I suppose it makes sense on a greater level also, the fact that they deforested forests and harmed wildlife to make light diamonds suggests indifference to their environment and corruption of their morality.

Huh, I never saw it in that way, but that makes sense. However, I wouldn’t say they are indifferent to the Sky Kids—I got the idea that they were on their last legs and suffering, and the light the Skids provide are a welcome help and medicine. I got the idea that light is kinda a metaphor for love, warmth, and community, so the kid’s little light of hope and care is what heals them, physically and psychologically 🙂

So in that sense, they are very grateful for it.

I like to think that taking isn’t necessarily what is bad, but that it is “all take and no give”, like what’s in toxic relationships. Seeing the Slouching Soldier sequence in the Little Prince cutscene...it shows that the “dark water” might be similar to alcohol. At the very least, it has addictive and/or sense-numbing properties.

In some ways it made me think of that river from Greek mythology whose waters could make you forget things when you drank it. This comparison might be weak since the Soldier doesn’t truly forget anything permanently (just for a time, such as alcohol would enable), but I thought it was interesting

Along with that Spirit who lost friends in a mining accident, this Spirit memory is one of the most sad ones, dang it (Its apparent that the soldier had a wife and child, and his drinking negatively affected that relationship).

So darkness seems to be more spiritual than anything. A coldness of the soul, no?

For some reason I’m reminded of the Bible verse that discusses the darkness in one’s heart (and keeping watch of yourself in what you look at, admire, and/or worship!)

I feel like the duality of light and dark in Sky is less of a Ying-Yang balance and more of a spiritual fight against one’s worst nature—-light (warmth, love, care, selflessness, contentment) fighting against dark (cold, hatred, indifference, selfishness, greed)

Though I suppose you can say that there should be a balance between the two. You can say that hatred isn’t truly bad—there’s righteous anger against injustice, for example. Darkness, in many ways, is just a warping of something good. @LePetitBot is actually the dev caped sky kid, they use the computers to access discord and is actually the sky prince! My proof? Gut feeling mixed with low brainpower in the morning

there is actually a difference between the dev caped sky kid and us. We can get capes without any winged light levels by having no winged lights and using a cape spell so that's not whats different. What is different is the chest glow, When we pull out our red candle the chest glow dissapears till we put away the candle yet the dev caped sky kid has no candle out or chest dot of light. This could mean that this sky kid is a kind unable to save themselves (as in they don't have the winged light inside of that black room when you die outside of eden) and if I am correct about my theory of that glowey boy in our eden black room being ourselves then the dev caped sky kid would likley be a previous version of sky kids. Supposedly, the first ever sky kid (including all sky kid versions) could be the prince. I have actually put a fairly decent amount of thought into my jacksh** crazy theory.

2. Are the spirits human? They can’t be Skykids because when we die we come back. Infinitely. So what could have happened for the spirits to become spirits. They wear masks and capes, unlike The Little Prince who only has a small strip of fabric. How did they get into the world that is Sky?

3. What the hell are Skykids? Where did they come from? How come the krills and crabs chase us but not spirits?
4. Come to think of it, Krills chase Mantas. You see that in the second area of Wasteland. But they never chase spirits. Or crabs. So it’s obviously something to do with the light we have because none of the other Sky creatures in Wasteland have that except the bright mantas who can restore our light and Skykids themselves. Would Krills also attack Butterflies and the little birds we see fly around. How did they get into the world that is Sky?

6. At this point I’m just writing thoughts down as they come to me, but the spirits seem fully capable of doing so many things! They sell us things that we are actually able to use, they have to be the ones who stock up the shop. They also are spirits, there’s no way to kill them or touch them. They seem to have the ability to teleport. Why can’t they bring the world back to it’s former glory themselves? That’s what they want us to do right? Or is there something deeper.

The Starlight Desert has chained up spirits based off the characters in the book that the Little prince meets except at least 2, the Rose and the Fox which are featured in different forms because of how important they are. The Starlight Desert is a big reference as well everything else in the desert by the garden, The distance location, and the Ancestor spirit of the rose, they are all from the book in several ways possible

well, I partially agree with your thoughts.
The spirits may be reliving their past memories, instead of their last moments, as all of these memories seem to have different times. So, each of the spirits might be hung up on a moment in time they are recalling and thus cling onto that moment instead of their supposed demise.

So far, the little prince would technically be the first LIVING thing (aside form light creatures and the skykids) to visit the world.
Even with him being an anomaly for the lore for the sake of the collaboration. His presence does have a unique impact on the world.

Think of them as ghosts that either have unfinished business, or suffered so much trauma upon death and because of that cling onto their last memories.
So, some memories are happy ones, others are but moments in time, and others are struggles the wen through.

One thing I am not sure about is how they died, including the season spirits.
Possible hypothesis are that the whole world was wiped out with a big explosion, a wave of corruption spread across the world like a plague, or anything that dies in the sky world (no matter if they, for example, passed due to old age) some ancestors dont get to pass on.

For the last theory, the only fact I have to support it is how the proud victor spirit showed a child spirit, one that never appears outside the memory, so either means the child did get to pass on, or grew up and became another spirit we know, all while the proud victor's memory will still show his child.

I interpret any spirit that skykids have not met are stuck in the mortal world.
Because, we see them flying up to the orbit space (ascended or not, as in, blue or gold), but any spirits your skykid has not yet helped would not appear fully in that section (such as a seasonal spirit you have not encountered yet).

In the past, skykids can relive a memory once, and the spirits supposedly move on to orbit, which is likely the game's version of heaven or the afterlife.
Now, we can relive their memories over and over, which is in part likely because of in game design for players to repeat parts of the game.

Example, a skykid's cape could have complex patterns, but due to some devices not being able to hand it, all skykids capes are simple.

Another example, skykids don't have fingers, but all the other spirits do. This might be to simplify animations of the players. Or the lack of animation to simplify expressions (literally) because one can imaging what expression a spirit might have.

But I think I’m quite certain that krills are mechanical creations. If you happen to be close to a krill, you can probably hear the metallic clinking of chains or humming of engines. And when they detect a player (probably via infrared since sky kids produce heat naturally) the light turns red and you if you didn’t manage to escape l, it will charge at you making a very loud roar that sounds like a roaring of an engine.

Patrol, yes. Though they dont commit to it.
They follow a set path while breaking pattern occasionally such as double backing, or using short cuts.
This could be a bug since this also causes the buggers to clip through terrain and exploit it to get skykids trying to hide from them.
Also, one can imagine these things can track. As thy are usually seen looking around places where skykids usually travel along.

In short, they can be robotic, though sure do have a predator instinct. Which is either because of their corruption, or that they used to be predators.

I was super late to the Journey scene, though love it!
Some of the overlap you might also see is the players working together to explore the world, the visible chimes, the diamond mesh in windows of buildings, wind walls and the sand sliding!
There is surely more small details that would remind people of the past games (like flower, abzu or cloud), but the game, Sky does have its own identity at the least.

The one thing I felt Journey did a bit better was the tight narrative—it’s simple but it conveys the Hero’s Journey very well. Sky did too but it felt a bit...I wouldn’t say muddled, but perhaps more nebulous at some points. Idk. It’s not a downside, just different!! But in this way I like Journey better—maybe I’m biased though: it was my “first love” with TGC’s games lol

I just remember how I was looking for something EXACTLY like Journey to play as a game. Idk how to put my finger on it, but I wanted to experience certain the sense of mystery, heart, and wonder in a story, especially a video game...when I saw the trailer for the first time, it felt like it spoke directly to me and my personality and whatever that longing was in my heart! It was just this chef’s kiss feeling for me lol

Simply put, see how Sky walks a path that is familiar to Journey, but it goes in a different destination.

What I can mention off the top of my head.
Journey has 6 elders and each one tells the player about the world they live in and how the civilisation came to ruin. The light in the distant mountain, being the only surviving creatures of a past civilisation.The player goes on a journey of discovery while getting to share the experience with other travellers, some more experienced than others and showing it, ultimately sacrificing everything to get something else in return, and being reborn to do it all over again.

Journey is a masterpiece of a video game that follows the Monomyth, the hero's journey. The game opened a new avenue for games that can move players emotionally.

Sky, on the other hand, takes note of what Journey did, and uses that as a starting point to explore a new idea.
Sky allows you to interact with more players instead of limited interaction of a single stranger.
The lore of journey is set out, we meet the ancestors, how they rose and fell, and most noteworthy allows players to incorporate their meta knowledge of the game with their next play through.

Sky also is a game that is evolving over time. One can see how the devs are exploring new ideas beyond what they established with Journey.

It’s interesting to compare the differences too, especially in atmosphere...

Someone mentioned this too, but Journey has more of a somber atmosphere. Sky has more of a playfulness and youthfulness to the world (although, it is still just as ancient and derelict as Journey’s world). But it felt more...living to me, in the sense that Skids were actively living and having a community in this world. Kinda like living in the peaceful wake of an apocalypse. There’s the hope of life returning, and Skids are immortal (being reborn as many times as they want).

In Journey, the world before is long dead and gone, and more focus is put on whatever is in or beyond the mountain, whatever this “next world” is, we never know. It is shown clearly that life will not return to this world, but only through travelers coming to learn from the world’s past mistakes.

The traveler makes a lonesome journey, one that can be shared with a single other friend. In that sense the world feels a lot more empty and alone, but the bond between the two lone figures can feel a bit more stronger. In Sky, a skid has the option to meet many other skids, and not face this sense of emptiness.

And when a caped traveler reaches the end, it is The End (though, rebirth is an option). Though, it is to help usher others to the Beyond, rather than to the repopulation of the world

Journey has playfulness in it too (it’s characters can be just as cute as the Skids!), but it hits different. I’m not sure how to put that feeling into words yet...

Hehe, it’s also funny to think about the differences in emoting...other than “chiming” and meditating (sitting), all we could do to emote a sense of goofiness was to “faceplant”

The chat feature is convenient way of getting your message across. Though this requires the players to grow their friendship to unlock it.

Interestingly enough the way skykids can communicate non-verbally is still present in the game. Though this is usually the case when players have not yet unlocked chat, or cannot understand each other.
One could explain that skykids develop their own cipher to communicate with each other, as in use a real world written language to imply that skykids can communicate through other means.
So, it is a good hybrid of in game lore and a balanced mechanic

One welcome change to sky in comparison to Journey, is it easy to assume the other players are just an AI to help the player. If the player does not act odd, the other player would not notice till they reached the end and realise that the 'AI' was a person!
In Sky, one can easily tell the staff skykid is an AI. Though I would not be surprised if a new player did not know it.

They used to be called stars.
They allow the skykid to fly higher, which could represent how strong a skykid in terms of how long they can last in eden and how far they can fly without rest.
These lights are gathered up and shepherded to eden, where you give it back to the fallen (the statues).
By doing so, you are given ascended candle wax in return.

So, the winded light could be pieces of the corrupted king, or the lost fragments of the children sacrificed in eden (the statues you see in eden and how they look a bit like skykids in orbit).

Stone statues usually represent a spirit skykids can interact with, and help. Up until now, we see spirits ranging from teenagers to adults in sky, but in eden never see an adult spirit. Only the children spirits.

In the old Lore, there used to be an ark that would have carried children, but that is no longer what the current lore is about. Yet we still see child statues in eden.

I suspect that the four lights the figures are shown holding in the beginning correspond to the four elements (perhaps mastery of them?)

Then the next scene is figures laying down and the lights are little monsters

Then there's the third scene with them all standing in Eden with the four lights, tons of people, and sky boats

Also in the beginning, they had clouds that were erased and replaced with a staircase leading to a door

So... they created an apocalypse in Eden?

If Eden is an apocalyptic explosion, why do all the children of the light want to fly into it?

Oh, and that ending scene where the child hugs a clone and gains the power to survive the storm reminds me of Fullmetal Alchemist and their whole idea of a gate guarded by Truth, who is simply a reflection of oneself

Prophecy could be the spirits of the past predicting what the present is (their future).
The laying bodies are initiates that have failed the trail, showing that those who succeed the trail are worthy.

I have little lore to share on this topic, though there are other people here who has extensively discussed it. You might see the King Propaganda phrase, as they believe the season of prophecy is about the king. Perhaps someone else can fill you in on that.

In the old lore (the lore of the game prior to the global release and major changes of the game. You can see what the old lore is like with Tom Zhao's art for the game).
The word Eden means a divine paradise (think of garden of babylon, or adam and eve), that place seemed to have been hit worst with the darkness and the strom.

There is little of ingame lore to explain how eden became that way, other than it is the source of the destruction.
Us skykids (to my understanding) are sent out to gather winged light and return it in eden, to the statue kids. Once we do so, we die, ascend and get to be reborn to do it all over again.
I believe the king (eden elder) is in the game, though broken. In the past, skykids could 'save' the elder, though it is no longer possible according to the devs.

The light kid (the light version of the skykid in that dark room) could be the elder, the corrupted king, sky's prince.

My reason how this is the case is how all the other realms always end with the player meeting the realm's elder before moving to the next realm.
Since this is the last area before we ascend to orbit, that is likely what is left of the elder!

It is “indifferent” to others. The darkness has severed its connection to the thoughts and emotions of other creatures. It doesn’t see light creatures as individuals, or even other creatures. It just sees food. Sometimes the food runs away, for reasons it doesn’t understand. All it knows is it must catch up to the food and devour it.

ok so i have this one theory that ive had simmering in my brain for awhile now and i want to put it into words.

you know how in-game krills are referred to as dark dragons? the first place we see these dark dragons are in the golden wasteland, where tsadi resides. i have a theory that tsadi is the light dragon. their hair has a similar spikiness to the krills back, and they both have sort of a jousting ability. i.e. krills lunge towards you, tsadi has a spear
