I think I recall it being mentioned in my research that the krill's design and role in relation to the player are based on the flying stone serpents in Journey.

The thing is, in the beta and old concept art, the lore does support the fact that light creatures caught in the explosion of darkness got corrupted. Given the krills are hostile and most of them exist in eden, I suppose some of the old lore could be relevant.

Yes but it's ambiguous now. There is a krill in Prophecy mural which may or may not suggest they already existed way back when. And in the Switch trailer the travelers cast a spell, maybe to keep dark creatures away? So, there might be some evidence that they are around and take over if they can't be controlled.

Symbolism of ghosts in chains are that they are bound by a sin or something that restricts them.

Each spirit are fixated on a belief (ex. Narcissist believes he is the handsomest, accountant owns all stars he can count, drunkard drinks because he is ashamed of drinking, cartologist ignores something important that he is reading about and lamplighter simply follows orders even if it tires him).

Old lore timeline was the pince and megabird worked together, then 6 elders were chosen, discovered dark stone, expanded kingdoms, corruption affects light creatures, an ark was build to take people to eden because the storms there kept the corrupted creatures at bay, then an explosion, then calamity, and lastly, the skykids are sent down to complete the cycle once more.

So, who knows how the new lore would change.

I dont know. All that I do know about chain ghosts in literature are their chains represent their restrictions, their beliefs or sins in life are holding them back in death.
One example of a chained ghost is Jacob Marley's ghost from Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. He was greedy business man in life as he hoarded money from people that needed it, so his ghosts got chains to represent it.

I have a little (probably bogus) theory that Sky is a loose sequel to Journey; taking place hundreds, maybe even thousands of years afterwards. I believe Journey tells the story of how the mountain was initially colonized and and Eden was established in the first place.

First, let's look at the similarities between the two. Both stories revolve around slowly climbing up a mountain. Both mountains also look extremely similar; the only real difference being the absence of a city on the mountain in Journey (that city being Eden which hadn't been built yet)

Both games also end with your character dying and being reborn upon reaching the top of that mountain.

Additionally, the travelers in Journey look an awful lot like the people of Sky (the spirits) underneath their cloaks; humanoid with glowing white eyes and very, very dark skin. The only real difference is their clothing which is just fashion and doesn't really matter that much.

Now the biggest evidence against this theory would be the difference in the geography of the two games. In Journey, we basically only get one kind of environment for the majority of the game; desert. Then there's a smooth transition into a rocky terrain in the last third as you travel up the mountain more and more.
But I actually don't think the two worlds are as different as they appear at first glance.

If you think about it, every area in the world of sky that the Traveler could have access to is all desert. Isle? Desert.
Valley without the ice (for all we know, the climate could have been warmer before the war happened)? Desert.
Wasteland? A desert that's been polluted.
And Vault presumably hadn't been built yet so the Traveler wouldn't have gone through it.. So what did we just find out exists just outside of Vault? Oh yeah, a desert.

The hidden forest is obviously a big exception, but that's hidden so it doesn't count.
And I guess the biggest counterpoint would be Prairie. But that's up in the sky on some mountain tops. and the traveler can't fly, so he/she likely would have gone around the mountains or between them rather than climbing them. Now, the sanctuary islands do show some of what's underneath those clouds and that seems to be a totally different environment from what we see in Journey. But those islands are also very out of the way. And it's not unheard of for tropical islands to exist adjacent to a desert mainland irl. So it's possible the land underneath the Prairie Village area is, in fact, more desert.

So from the perspective of someone who can't fly, the world of Sky would just be lots of desert followed by rocky terrain as you climb the mountain . . . just like Journey.

I'm telling you guys, the two games are linked. Journey is set at the beginning of Eden. And Sky takes place after the destruction of Eden.

Lore wise, I think the season simply add on to the plot or provide a different perspective to the existing lore.
One possible explanation could be that the world is slowly revealing more of the world that was once shrouded in clouds and darkness.

Still pondering thematic connections btw TLP spirits and the main realms— still assigning them from geographer/Vault and backing up clockwise thru soldier/Wasteland and narcissist/Valley, I think the other three spirits reflect the way kids at those ages view adults:

Isle/King = early childhood, grownups issue commands and expect obedience
Prairie/Merchant = mid-childhood, grownups are always trying to earn money, but might fixate on their work or possessions instead of providing for their families
Forest/Lamplighter = adolescence, grownups pay too much attention to endlessly repeating meaningless tasks/rituals/traditions even if it makes them miserable

if you were to be knit picky, then the scarf would not show half of the emotes that affect the cape very well.
It is probably the stars on your back that help with flight, though it feels more like it has to with a game mechanic than lore.
The stars on the cape are an important detail for skykids, I assume.

It sort of indicates how strong of a flyer the skykid is. (Not skill, but how high they can fly on thier own at once and how much damage they can endure).

So there is an average of 2 mask spirits per realm

Which means depending on the realm. Its either estimated 1/3rd or 1/4th of the people there have masks

If the little prince characters are meant to fit into the world of Sky, it's possible that he used to watch the Valley Twins perform at the stadium and was a huge fan. So now he's trying to emulate them hoping to become just as famous as they are

there is the vault cutscene. You can try it when you are in that room after you finish vault, but did not go home or to eden yet.

It's the cutscene that you watch after meditating at the top of Vault, for finishing the realm

The cutscene is the one at the end of vault before you get to the room where you either enter Eden or go back Home

To get to the oob area where you meat the elders, you first have to glitch through the floor, either using chibi fall or play dead/piggyback glitch with a friend. You end up on a giant gray cube. And from there, you have to clip into the cube somehow, again with either chibi fall or play dead/piggyback glitch

I dont know how to trigger the elders, but do know how to get them solo.
Let the cutscene play out (or skip it), then when you are in that dark and thundering room, you can prepare yourself either before going through vault or go there normally, go home and then come back.
you will need something you can stand on, and preferably charge you, and a chibi mask (or a spell would do).

Chibi fall through the floor and make your way to the spirit gate, dropping too low will teleport you back (no problems). Go through the spirit gate and you are free to land on the gigantic cube below!
Got to an edge and set your prop just below the edge, on the wall. The idea is for you to stand on that but able to 'step up' to the edge still. That lets you sink down enough to chibi fall again into the cube.

The elders are in there. 🙂

Like I said, you can also do it with a friend using piggyback/play dead emote

I think that's easier actually since you can just do that while standing on the grey cube normally and your friend will just clip right through

Though because of the open to interpretation barrier and little confirmed lore, this was a nice bit of lore.

In philosophy, there has to be a balance. Both light and darkness will always be at odds with each other. It may have been different in the past, though for the skykids, we are the ones evening out the scales. So, skykids are one of the few creatures that get to work with the lightest light, and the darkest of darks. We get to meet the elders and interact with them and at the same time able to delve into the worst places any light would dare venture in.

It is a melancholic but humbling thought.

For myself. Sky lore was always a little....standard. They are really stuck in the “explore a wrecked civilization that used a thing it should not have and turned animals bad” (and also stuffing it with environmental stuff). And thats like...the only story type they do. But I do like the unique bits most of all.

Getting to MEET the wrecked civilization is one of those unique shining points!

Here is a thought about skykids and rebirth.
We march out to our deaths in the dark water, giving light while being pulverised by falling red rocks.
When we die, our bodies turn to stone and are left behind while our spirit move on.
As we ascend, it is assumed based on the cut scene that our enlightened souls break out of our husks and rise up to orbit.

When we arrive there, any spirit that arrives, either seem to stay behind, or supposedly return to their resting places. I believe it is more like the former as it would not make sense for spirits to return to the world for us to bring them back home.
I propose the skykids would relive spirit memories and bring them home once, hence the old feature of the game not allowing repeating memories for the sake of lore. Now that skykids can relive memories over and over, that would likely because of the game mechanics or replayability and thus be an exception for the lore's sake.

So, on the rebirth.
I like to theorise that skykids had to be reborn because their bodies don't survive the trip through eded. So when they arrive in orbit, the megabird calls for them to go through the portal back home so they can get a new body and therefore, get a new life but keep their experience.
I suppose that also explains why skykids always remain youthful and nimble, because their bodies are just a shell (little prince reference).

I believe our appearance is just our personality being expressed through the cosmetics we can assume through imitating what we can see.
Us skykids are impressionable as we can learn emotes through mimicry.

Personal head canon that leans over to an outside fandom (The Gems from Steven Universe), skykids can manipulate light to stay alive, fly, keep warm and charge other skykids. So, a skykid's light ability extends to their capes. If skykids can change the looks of their capes, hair and even summon props, they supposedly can imitate anything they see a spirit use.

A skykid keeping their look through rebirth means the skykid can maintain their preferred look.
That and for the sake of convenience in game play in repeatedly reapplying your favoured cosmetics.

It could be because to avoid an exploit of getting more ascended candle wax than intended and suggest in the lore that the skykid keeps their soul even in death.

As for the other 63 statues, I think these ancient skykids are either killed before turning to stone, their souls are scattered around the world and can't return on their own, or these husks are used as a conduit for the light the megabird wants to return. Assuming the last hypothesis, the cycle now maintained, the statues will always return and the winged light will always reappear as long as the skykids keep bringing them back to complete the cycle and maintain a universal balance.
That or, that is just what the game shows for now until the devs release an ending of the game.

Is the pure light skykid from the end of trials and the pure light skykid from eden the same? They’re both much more resilient to what would kill them before,(say, polluted water not killing trial end skykid when it used to, and end of the game skykid being able to break the rocks), but they also seem to have different abilities, although the places they are in are vastly different and one area wouldn’t need any abilities that the other would need to pass, and the methods of skykid getting to each form are also very different, also the appearance is a little different.

The same applies to the trials, we are the glowing kid we control, th. we glow because of a blessing by the trial (i think) however the glowing kid in the prophecy murals is thought to be the prince by many (I also think this but at the same time we do also kind of qualify for the position of glowy kid in murals, we passed the trials, gave light to the elders, asccended eden, and all that stuff.) Maybe if we take the same rules from the corpse-plant theory, saying darkness feeds off of dead light creatures and decomposing light overall, we can apply that to krills. Lets take the cloud slug, for example. If one of them died then the light from that slug-corpse couod birth maybe 2-3 krills, as darkness builds up overtime on the animal. Or the manta-tee could have died and then turn into a krill that way.

Its not that darkness corrupted the slug/mantatee before they died, its that the dead remains of them turned them into krills.

Isle elder has a boat mask and prairie elder has a jar mask, which are both items important to their respective realm and are worn by spirits who live there. Valley elders have simple masks for sports, but some spirits there have very over the top showy ones. Wasteland masks are all like helmets, relating to their warlike society

i just thought of a theory that the skykid is in a cycle, with other skykids. When a skykid goes into eden, it can go two ways. They are inevitably killed, and what happens after that is essential. As you know, there were two copies of our wingless skykid, us comtrolling the light one to get to the dark one. I think the light one is a skykid’s “soul” or some kind of essence while the dark one is the body, that why we see it when our light has been extinguished. And the dark part of ourselves is getting consumed by darkness. We get the good outcome where we are able to reconvene with the other part of ourselves, “save” them, and combine into an ascended skykid. For some reason, this form makes the skykid become immensely powerful for a while, allowing them to fly into orbit, escape eden and rebirth. The other, bad outcome is when the light half can’t find or is too late to save the dark half. In that case, the light half is forced to exit the stature by itself as the dark half is fully consumed by darkness, and so they wander around as a winged light, waiting for a skykid to pick them up and return them to their fallen bodies, so they have another shot at becoming whole again. Usually they succeed with the second try. With their gratitude for the skykid, they use the remaining power they regained, but don’t need anymore after getting out of orbit and lend it to the skykid, in the form of ascended candles. Then they go on to become moths, as they’ve lost all memory from their past life. And those moths get more winged light and return them to the statues, turning the statues into moths, and so on. Thoughts?

It is a pretty solid theory and I like it.

I agree that skykids are caught in a cycle of life of gathering winged light and becoming stronger as they go, just to give it all away at Eden and die. Sad but it is part of the cycle.
I digress a bit from the part you said about the light skykid and the dark one. Though there are plenty of theories around them that can be plausible, there is virtually no canon explanation to what the light skykid is and who the skykid represents in their dark state. I am not saying your theory is impossible to prove, though like the idea of the skykids having both a light and dark side to them.

To add to your theory, there is some old lore that nicely explians the history of the game, although it is outdated and may differ form what the game has become over time.
According to what I gathered form the old lore, there was an explosion in eden (yes, I am finally accepting the big bang diamond theory, I could find a different theory for myself to side with).
This explosion destroyed the ark that supposedly carried spirits and the elders to avoid the corrupted light creatures (krill).
What I suppose would happen is the children we see here are either the first skykids, or the ancestors of skykids. Either way, their petrified bodies showed them desperately making their way and failing to reach the red diamond. I believe their bodies are not able to survive the journey and their souls were lost to the darkness.

As for the winged light (or stars as they were used to be called), they could either be the statue kids, though this might not be the case given there are currently around 98 of them in the world, if I recall correctly, and only 63 statues.

What makes me rethink my head canons a bit is realising the skykid themselves turn to stone too. While this may link them to the statues, why is that ours are already active upon death (aside form in game mechanics to avoid exploitation from other skykids getting more ascended candles), and the winged light can be found around the world and even given by spirits as wing buffs.
If the old lore were to apply in this case of the skykids being created by the megabird, what would the purpose be for this endless cycle of light and dark?
Is this process necessary to maintain order and balance? Is this how the megabird stays alive?

On personal theory I refuse to let go is the possibility of the Prince/king being the light skykid we see in the void.
This void like environment is not actually foreign to the skykids as this is how we skykids meet the elders. While each elder has parts of their temples, something like an echo of the world they knew, if one were to assume there is an elder in eden, it would not be out of the question that their area would either be ruin or even an empty space.

Clearly there are major pieces of lore missing with what eden is, why it has no elder and what happened in the past. More importantly, what has changed between the old lore and the mystery of the current one. I suppose only time would tell and all we can do is theorise on it.

What makes it hard to make the lore work is how the game goes through a soft reset every week. As in the statues in eden are renewed, the statues of dead skykids are removed and the skykid returns to home as if nothing happened. while that makes sense for the game to replayable, it adds a wrinkle to the lore as to why a skykid has to do this over and over again.

A skykid is not required to go through eden, though doing so can grant some benefits like the opportunity to see the elders and get their hair, and claim the wingbuffs of spirits we helped.

A skykid being reborn might not mean they have the same body. It could be possible for a skykid to be reborn in a different body but retain all of their past memories.
Sort of like how the little prince (spoiler to the book) ||dies to a snake bite, but assures his pilot friend that while his body is just temporary, he would return to his HOME.||
Even though the events in the book might not fully apply in the lore of sky, I do not see a reason to why not allowing a few parallels to support theories, given how the collab basically links to the stories together.

Only seasonal spirit detail I found is the bearhug hermit has two other spirits make an appearance, one of them is a season spirit (leaping dancer from season of gratitude) and the other is the cheering spectator.
I am not sure if any other spirit memory ever included a spirit from another season.

If by little prince you mean the sky prince (not le petite prince) then you got what I was saying. However, there is actually a difference between the dev caped sky kid and us. We can get capes without any winged light levels by having no winged lights and using a cape spell so that's not whats different. What is different is the chest glow, When we pull out our red candle the chest glow dissapears till we put away the candle yet the dev caped sky kid has no candle out or chest dot of light. This could mean that this sky kid is a kind unable to save themselves (as in they don't have the winged light inside of that black room when you die outside of eden) and if I am correct about my theory of that glowey boy in our eden black room being ourselves then the dev caped sky kid would likley be a previous version of sky kids. Supposedly, the first ever sky kid (including all sky kid versions) could be the prince. I have actually put a fairly decent amount of thought into my jacksh** crazy theory.

Here’s my theory: Through an unknown means, the 4 Prophets came upon our world, with nothing but a blank void. The Prophets created the world of Sky in full, but no creature was living there. They foresaw the arrival of the Elders, and not wanting to cause conflict between the two groups, went into hibernation in the Cave of Prophecies and left their corporeal forms to become spirits. The Prophets, wanting to share their elemental powers with the arriving people, created the Trials so that people could harness the prophet’s powers.

I politely disagree, there doesn't seem to be much evidence to support the idea that the prophets possess that amount of power (or any amount of elemental power at all if I'm being honest). They just seem to be the guardians of the trials, training disciples to eventually be up to the task of completing them in order to fulfill the prophecy (something the prince seems to have been able to do and thereby gain the right to be king, although that's still up for debate), but regardless your theory is very interesting! It's really unique and something I haven't heard of yet.

Besides that, I was also wondering why you don't think the Megabird is a thing, and was hoping you could explain (if you want to that is)

There is absolutely evidence that the Prophets have power. Before you enter the cave, there are 4 murals that show that the wisdoms give you lots of power related to that element and it’s safe to say that the Prophets have the wisdoms (how do they build a trial that they can’t complete?)

I actually went to got check those murals after you said that and in my opinion they don't show that at all! All the murals really seem to show is where the sources of magic/trials are. They don't show anything about wisdom granting power or even any humanoid figure. Beyond that there's no evidence that they even built the trials, just that they seem to oversee them. It's unknown if the trials have always existed, if they were made by people sometime before their use, or if they were made after the kingdom's founding.

I have a theory about this actually. A theory which also explains why our eyes are closed and we have no mouth. Keep in mind this is also dependent on someone else’s theory about a generation of skykids.

After a few failed creations of skykids, Megabird might’ve thought they don’t need a minion that has their own sense of judgement, in fear of rebelling against it. The Megabird closed the Skykid’s eyes, a very important organ to perceive and judge people, and it also removed our mouth, the way we would normally voice out our opinion.

With only sense of touch and hearing (idk about smell tho) aiding the Skykids, it is a very huge handicap, to the point that they might’ve followed anything they can sense blindly (pun intended) at first

So basically know the opening of gw where the manta gets krilled perhaps there would be a small dark fish swimming around and sees a light orb and goes to eat it then the angler fish quickly gets it as it goes close to the light orb ( kinda like how in real life the larger fish eat the smaller fish so i'd imagine the angler fish would also eat dark fish even it it's also darkness )
