Ok, so, I must ask two important questions. What is Sky kid, and why is Sky kid?
We know they can't just be stars fallen to the earth taking humanoid shape, can they? That's the Winged Light/Stars, right? The rain hurts them, but they can swim just fine. Darkness hurts them but they harness the darkness shrubs and trees for candle wax. They can both harness and output winged light. When getting pelted by the rain or just standing in polluted water, their non-descreipt energy, the first layer of protection, is steadily drained. Then the flame, the second layer, which rips them of their ability to produce fire and color, and then the last layer, their cores, what I headcannon to be the little oval things on their chest, which then causes them to drop winged light. So what are they? Asteroids?? Meteors???
And how did they even come to be in the first place????

Furthermore, how does winged light work? Is it the natural energy of the land? Fallen stars?? The Sky kid version of a spirit??? If not, why do they take Sky kid form specifically? When a piece of winged light flickers out due to polluted water, Krills or rain, does it just go back to a random set position, or is it destroyed only for a new one to take its place?

I believe skykids are some kind of living porcelain dolls that were called to the Sky kingdom to bring back light (because the kingdom is pretty much doomed without light and the light is dying), darkness itself (like dark areas or shadows) doesn’t hurt them but things that drain light or attack it do (I believe the darkness in Fire Trial tries to attack/corrupt people’s spirits so that’s why it drains our light). Rain might drain light because it falls so hard, I guess if it’d hail in Valley we’d get the same effect.
When the light inside them was hurt enough for it to be too fragile to recover without help (the phase we lose stars at), they need an external light source to function again

Also, dark plants contain light and skykids burn the plants to free that light

Alright so, my theory is that, the elders arent dead per say, but their souls departed from their mortal bodies into their memorial stones as we see at the end of each realm. And the memories with them arent memories, but us visiting them. As when we meet the elders in their respective realms, they all interact with us whether it be with our candle or with us. But then again, in vaultbwe see them all together at once with all their stones at the same place. So I think that each stone the elder can go to has 3 pathways, one to eden, one to vault and of course, one to their realms. Like teleportation pads, but in the form of a tomb stone.

And in eden, when we get all of their speacial spirits, they reward us with a gift . As if to say thank you for coming to see them so many times during our candle runs and just for fun sometimes. And bring them their people

And then, he gave the 4 wisdoms(?) to 4 elders. After that he ruled over the land until something happened that erased the whole civilization
