My take is that this acid rain wasn’t a thing when Assembly Children were alive, seeing as how we are reliving their memories. They died in mysterious ways, and some time later the rain happened.

So I have a theory, the spirit's mask is in a way their face. Like since the Baffled Botanist's mask had a tear drop, either they cried a lot or were crying before their death. The chuckling scout either smiles a lot(this is obvious) or were smiling before their death. The scared spirit had a scar and etc. I can't really explain the Scolding Scout's triangle mark, though. Perhaps she had a birth mark or it was painted to her head. Of course, not all masks like no one had an ox face, or a bunny face. But at least for the Season of Assembly spirits, maybe that was true.

So, before the explosion, flying boats used to carry butterfly pots, and small dark stones, but when it comes to carry bigger dark stones they needed bigger boats to carry bigger dark stones, so they created mantas and they somehow gave them ability to magnet dark stones so they do not drop on transportation process. Given how dark the trial of fire is we can assume two things, 1. That the creatures use this to blend in and 2. They need this darkness,
At the end of the trial if you walk through one of them they will "explode" and turn into nothing,
This area/trial has probably been designated for them to live since everywhere else is too bright, and the fire prophet was merely a protector of their kind, anyways thats all i have to say about that haha

they look like that because originally they were! not lore-wise, but more so design-wise. one of their early concepts included valley just having one elder, but it was changed later on in concept art. that plus the fact that they’re twins makes them look so similar

it’s implied sometimes that they can age, as there’s a text in the official lore doc that says something along the lines of “sky kids do not grow up to be elders” while talking about the realm elders. so it implies that they age but we don’t know anything more than that. i think it’s up to your interpretation, but canonically they are all kids in present time

i think there’s something in the lore doc that talks about where they come from? iirc sky kids are literally just born from pure light. obviously there’s nothing that states the exact/average age of sky kids as a whole, nor how fast/far they age. again i think that aspect is all up to interpretation since in the game’s present timeline, they’re all children
