If the theory that we are seeing the spirits as they were in their memory (and not necessarily what they looked like when they died) is correct, then just because one (or more) of the forest ancestors appear as kids when we meet them, it doesn’t mean they never grew up when they were alive.

However, I also wonder if “descendant” doesn’t necessarily literally mean they were their parent/grandparent/ect, but just generally part of their familial lineage. More along the lines of some of the spirits being (great) aunts and uncles rather than (((great)grand)parents), since it would kind of be weird to me if every single spirit we see in the forest ended up having kids sometime in their life.

It could also mean “descendants” in a much broader sense, like someone above mentioned, meaning that they just descended from that generation of ancestors. The only thing that makes me believe otherwise is the bit about their personalities, but it could still hold true!

Also re: questgiver seeming more “active” than the other spirits, the spirits do wave at you when you approach them! Sure it isn’t as physical as a high five, but I think that could just be sky magic. Other examples of skykids physically interacting with the spirit world are:

-skykids can stand on spirit trees without falling through the branches (like the ones in vault)

-skykids are physically lifted up by the spirit mantas in vault.

Both of those examples being from vault make it a bit iffy since that level was purposefully designed to be a dream like experience, meaning it might not be entirely literal, but .

I would LOVE a bit more interaction with the other ancestors

Hey so I just noticed this but some of these new spirits don't seem to be hurt by the rain! Now this could be interpreted in a few ways:

1. It helps support the idea that the ancestors are a different species than the decendants/ are bulit differently (if you believe them to be golems) and as a result they're affected differently by the rain

2. The rain wasn't yet as polluted as it is now and only became toxic for us after the fall of the sky kingdom and the formation of the storm and it's assumed ejection of polluting materials into the atmosphere

3. The spirits where they're walking freely outside happen during periods in which the rain has stopped (which is something that seems to occasionally happen based on the season of belonging's area and the jellyfish section of the 3rd area in the Hidden forrest)

I'm curious what you all might think of it however so uhhh....

we are childern of light, our main purpose is bringing back the light to the sky kingdom, since creatures that still alive cant do it. We are those few beings that has light,, and kindon has fallen becouse they lost the light once. The spirits were the real peaople of the kingdom. You can think them just like normal humans. Their purpose was uhhh, living? idk, but for sure they were in kingdon just same reason we, real people are created. So they dont have light, they are not created from it. Rain has darkness in it, which can destroy light. so it effects us but not spirits, the ones who used to live there. Also, storm has stoped the time in kingdoms, so if there was a rain when storm happend, it stays forever now. Or atleast we stop the storm. So for sure rain may not be there when spirits lived that memories. Also, you can see the that "eww" sprits memory, they had rain. but they didn't effected (died). You may question, why doent other light creatures get effected. thats because they made from pure light while we can just have the ability to absorb light. we made of earth, as body. so its like uhhhhh, for cratures, thats like droping few drops of water in a fire pit. but for us, we have less light (for me, light is fire i belive) so rain can easily destroy it.

i have this idea that some of the statues in eden are us, that we've tried again and again to stop the storm. I mean, what happens to our statue when we are reborn? we died in the same way as all the other statues, who are only released when a wing is given to them. it raises more questions than it answers tho

I guess the winged light might’ve been a part of megabird or not, either way they were in the sky and fell, might’ve traveled somewhere and sat there then, looking at the sky longingly.

And spirits might give us wing buffs as a proof of their gratitude for giving them a ticket to orbit (ascended candles)

I guess Orbit might give strength because I also think an Elder’s strength is symbolized by their height and Vault grew a lot in Orbit

The winged light is implied to have come from the statued kids. If you enter the point of no return, there's the description of the area that tells you to "Return the light of the fallen",, meaning our winged light probably came from those statued kids

I would assume the ascended candles came from the light fragments of those kids, which are probably light fragments from winged light

Since we have (wax) from normal candles, titled "light fragments" which form our candles for currency, I would assume that ascended candles are the same, but from a different kind of light. The other kind of light we know is the colored lights and winged lights. The kids we save from Eden own the winged lights we collect, so it's most likely candles forged from winged light

Which explains how we get winged light from them when used for spirits

well, i remember that once i saw that each realm is representing a diffrent part of the day beacuse it was uhhhh, kinda stuck in a time loop or a single second because of the problem with the eden cristal. And i made my own theory lol. Well, when cristal is corrupted because of some reason i havent figured out yet, the prince and the king got effected. I belive that the king is corrupted into storm, it kinda merged with darkness and destroying his beloved, his kingdom. Darkness realy waned kingdom to fall apparentaly so it made hte worst thing possible happen, take the king. And prince, well, he is in eden cristal i belive. Maybe thats why we are trying to get to the cristal, to save him and destroyig the heart of the storm, where it feeds. Maybe even king tried to save his son by that. When king is corrupted, i think it kinda make a kinda uhhh, bomb effect that destroyed all bodies and stoped everything existing, but not the souls. Adults was storong enaugh to being able to save themselves and go back to orbit by flying (consider souls can fly lol) , but childs-this is the part where story gets lit 🌝- couldent, i mean what can you expect lol they are so weak. so their body is destoyed just like anything but their sould stucked where they were when that bomb effect happended. THEY ARE THE WINGEDLIGHT WE ARE COLLECTING. By that way, they are fly now "helping" us to "fly". and we are bringing few of them to orbit eachtime we eden run lol. That's understandable! But I'd like to add a few points if I may

1. We do actually see the bodies of the spirits! They're the rocky-looking statues stuck in a prayer position that we crack open at the end of a spirit's memories to initiate a cutscene and gain a new emote.

2. Although it's likely there were many many deaths caused by the tragedy at Eden, I don't think they all happened because of it! Rather, it seems more likely that most of the deaths happened because of what happened after the sky kingdom's collapse (starvation, disease, the krill, etc) which would eventually dwindle the kingdom's population down to zero over time.

3. The whole theme around certain times of the day in each realm seem to be more based on the aesthetic rather than lore! The reason why we don't really see the passage of time in each realm is mostly because the Dev's didn't see the need to add it as if you're playing the game linearly there wouldn't be any need to add itand because it would take up a lot of storage to run that.

4. Darkness doesn't really seem to be a main antagonist, it's just a force that was used in the kingdom's technologies and came to pollute it overtime as a result of mis-use. Places like the GW probably wouldn't be the way they are without the amount of pollution going on from the manta juicers factories in the area

5. This isn't so much a point as it is my own interpretation, but I think that the fallen children are actually previous sky children who came before you but failed to reach orbit, died, and turned to stone. By giving them your winged light (which may or may not be their souls) you're able to free them!

The reason why spirits are not re-discoverable/re-collectable is because they are thrown back in time with us as well during the flight in Orbit
However, they are not reborn or anything like that They stay as they are. And they are still at the spots where we found them/ascending at those stone markers at each realm's social space, waiting to see us again.

I have sometimes questioned the wasteland, why was it thrown into disorder? I have noticed in the battle field there had been a battle in the past, (hence the name) but what about the pipes? I believe some industrial or wastefully act polluted wastland possibly? Who knows it could have been a beautiful realm.

Then there is Eden, could darkness from Eden have descended down the giant slope of the mountain where the realms dwell? Possibly, then there is the Vault, it is untouched, but then when you think about it lorewise the Vault is a building that is closed off.

I would like to think that Wasteland was once an industrial area turned warzone, thus the pipes
Eden is similar to that, but it doesn't seem to have been a warzone, just a disaster site
And it is perfectly possible that the darkness from Eden descended down the slopes into wasteland
The other areas are somewhat less affected because of their constant access to sunlight, which kinda counters the darkness
However, Wasteland is 1) geographically pretty low and 2) seems pretty cloudy in general (it could also be more pollution

wasteland was originally a nice coastal area with plenty of resources. In Light awaits it was originally called shores of Manna (i think). They built some temples in this place to worship the power of flame and megabird. They also used the resources later to fuel their factories and create even more darkstone. Of course civil war erupts over the use of resources.

Eden was just the capital. The palace was there, and the area was fuelled by the ascension beam powering a massive darkstone diamond. It explodes and leaves the kingdom in ruins and covered with darkness.

I would say that the explosion is the king's fault but then the propaganda guys would get me

My headcanon is that the king and his armies got too ambitious, and tried to harness the power of the Megabird for near-infinite energy [Diamond theory]. They succeeded in trapping the Megabird, but they eventually broke free, and the resulting explosion decimated the entire kingdom [the storm/why Eden is destroyed/how all the sprits died]. The king and prince were killed in the process, and the Megabird exiled the realm elders to the demiplanes we find them in. i was just thinking ab this today!!! like its very interesting that they chose to place golden wasteland right after valley, especially with how some of the concept stuff talks about the “emotional curve” (or something to that effect) that sky follows. if they wanted to make a sort of bell curve-shaped or consistent emotional curve, then valley probably wouldnt have fallen just before wasteland, so i feel like this was a very intentional choice, probably to highlight the contrast of the prosperity and war of the two provinces. i also think its interesting how valley is so lacking in darkness plants as compared to the others; the only spots you can find it is in the tunnel at the end of the race. meanwhile, wasteland is very obviously infested by darkness. they could very well be the two sides of the same coin, so imagining the war as involving these two sides is definitely not a stretch.
