i always thought that when eden diamond explode, everyone in Sky kingdom perished. basically, a complete annihilation of 'sky people' race. it is like a nuclear bomb, everyone instantly died and the only reason why those spirit memories remains are because of their connection to their elders, who were in limbo state (not alive nor dead)

but when i read sup's theory, i kinda have another idea how these memories survive

unlike regular diamonds, tho, eden diamond need huge amount of darkness and light, especially by the fact that eden diamond are speculated to be the ultimate power source.

that is, if the elders are directly involved in creation of eden diamond... and by the fact that in the creation of eden diamond it need a huge amount of two main materials, especially darkness...

we might can speculated that the elders got corrupted by the darkness, and this corruption also spread to spirits who connected to them!

now now how is this connected to sup's theory?

...One of the things that makes the memories of the spirits we relive special, is that those memories were made after the "fall" of their realms...

now from this sentence, from sup's theory, we can conclude that there are spirits that survived after the kingdom fell, likely after the eden diamond explode

but how in eden name is this possible? if eden diamond explosion can cause huge storm and causing castatrophe so wide even reached isle (which is speculated to be the fartest from eden mountain), we can speculate how huge this explosion is. so huge, that not even a soul can survive it

So, while the narrator say ‘but darkness came, and the stars fell’ that could mean when the Eden Diamonds ♦️ erupted or exploded like you said, I think that many spirits knew the diamond was going to kill them all and so gathered up all the children and sailed them far away, meanwhile the spirits and Elders went to fight the darkness. But obviously they failed, so the darkness found the children and they become shipwrecked on the Isle, where the story begins. After all the Sky Kingdom died, the spirits knew the children would save them and so left a memory of themselves for the children to find.
