Spike on the other hand isn't taken seriously when running things, but gets more athletic practice in. The whole Swipe and Toss was a deal between them so that they could play to their strengths

So I've been comparing the skeletons of the whales and whurtles and I realized something! The two skeletons are oddly similar in structure, too similar for them to be not related...

Introducing: Whale taming 2.0/whurtle origins!

The basic idea is that the ancestors first tamed then domesticated the whales, slowly selectively breeding them overtime to make desired changes in their bodies and size

Eventually creating the Whurtles!

Now we know that the whurtles were probably used by the ancestors in the millitary and (eventually) to fight the krill!

And we know that the Sky millitary had an association with the whales (because of the mask and everything)

so how do we know that the Whurtles are a domesticated form of the whales? Because of their skeleton

The two share a remarkably similar one (as seen in images 1-3) with only slight differences in size, rib-cage width and whether or not they had a outer skull or not

But why would the sky millitary breed whales to increase their size and have an outer skull?

The answer is because they would want to increase the whale's already existing natural ability! The ability to hit things with a massive impact (as shown by our whale friend during the journey into orbit)

Having an outer skull would let them hit things harder, while having more mass would let them hit things with more velocity

Now the question is why do some of the soliders in sky have a whale mask instead of a whurtles mask? Well it's for the same reason irl militaries have more wolf insignias and not dog ones! The sky millitary probably associated the whales with peace and order, while the whurtles were their loyal creatures that helped them enforce it!

Why are the whurtles all dead?
Well it's likely with out the millitary feeding them, any whurtles that didn't die by the hands of the krill would starve to death as they were too big and didn't have enough food to survive in the wild

The one in Forrest is most likely an adolescent whale (as the ones we do see are much bigger). But besides that their skeletons are pretty similar!

These are images of a whurtle's skeleton! The 3rd and 2nd are the skull form different angles, while the 1st is a ribcage!

so my idea is that dark plants grow where the left over darkstone is, like in a powdered form. So that may explain why we see dark plant orbs near the heart of spirits where the light orb is in their chest. Since that orb is sort of concentrated light so darkstone dust might've concentrated near in there body and when they died the dark plant orb grew there. i was thinking what if the dark plant orb grew when eden explosion happened and killed them from inside. We also see dark plants growing on whale skeleton in forest so it might've grew because darkstone dust might've concentrated in there bones. Also dark plants could be infected versions of norma light plants.
