Dark Dragons (krill) are seen in two murals: The Forgotten Ark and the Cave of Prophecy. Both have a krill depicted, but we have no direct references as to their origins. Many people speculate that they’re corrupted mantas (Elder Mantas) or creatures made of darkness.

We do know from a daily inspiration quote though that they consume light. So. That’s interesting.

shower thought, not sure if this has been brought up b4 but here's my theory: the valley elders were originally a single entity
i've got a developing theory tht all the elders adapted their forms to their realms, that is to say, the realms developed first and the elders chose to mirror the culture or whatever of the people there. the elders are some sort of supernatural entity, not the same as the spirits, so therefore they have supernatural abilities and could shapeshift into whatever form they desire.

now why is that only the valley has two elders, while the rest have one? the main culture of the valley seems to be sports competition. the Colosseum has a ring where spectators can watch the games, there's two races where you can race your friends, and even the village of dreams people seem to be practicing for skating and skiing events.
all the valley people love a good game. the valley elder reflects their culture in their athleticism, but what's a player without competition?
so they split into two entities. the twins essentially are the same person, just with different hair (one can argue they've simply been stylized to differentiate). they also both appear to act similar: competitive, cunning, and full of vigor
in their masks, one only has the left eye, the other has the right. in all other temple elder statues, there are two glowing eyes. the valley's monument follows this, but is split between two rocks. two halves of a whole. in addition, the monument appears to be symmetrical, hinting that the twins are more related than one might assume at first
whether the twins are one person in two bodies or simply one entity who've split (think reshiram and zekrom from pokemon) is up for debate, but i think my twin theory's sure to inspire some thinking

I read in the theory doc that it’s speculated that the water in Eden that’s clean. However I don’t think that can be because the liquid in part 2 of eden and part 3 are iridescent like the liquid in the Wasteland, making me think it’s oil, not water.

I suddenly want to see Sky creatures as food, particularly desserts and breakfast

So I made theory not knowing much about lore or canon. But just looking at the game.

So this is my theory about the history and world of sky:
Now when we go through the realms. I don’t think they are like realms, but the are moments in time. The main reason to believe this is because of wasteland. Here in the second area you will see the same elements from the temple from forest but only destroyed. If this is correct, that would mean that isle is the beginning the start of the world where the spirits lived. It would also explain why it so open and barren still. It is the start.
Now the spirit coming form heaven had to start their own civilisation. They needed knowledge to
When the spirits fell from the sky there was no leader. So the wise invented the trails. He who could finish the trails would be king. One spirit finished the trails se he became the king. (You can see this on the mural painting in prophecy cave.)
So The community started to flourish (prairie) They were erecting the first buildings and all was harmony. But also they discovered that the butterflies had a special light power. (you can see this, when you call the butterfly it sits on your hand, you get charged, but the butterfly turns pink) So the started to collect the butterflies. The put the pots at the temple as gifts.
But now they wanted more. This light power could be used to create more. And so the first steps of development started. Its no coincidence that forest mama is a blacksmith. They are trying to harness the powers of light. First from butterflies. And then use this to create a bigger energy source. Light crystals. You can see those in the temple of forest.

I was working on my own theory early today that basically sets Journey as the sequel to Sky. The gist was basically that Skykids store Light in their capes (more every time they ascend).

So at some point Eden loses most of its power and crashes to the earth, becoming the mountain in journey. The skykids, no longer able to ascend start using the light crystal tech to convert the creatures into storable light also (cloth). The skykids become the lost civilization in journey, the lone elder is the final elder from sky ( there are 6 “elders” when you are revived in journey).

I watched this video earlier where he managed to basically walk as close to the crystal as the game will physically allow, and it just doesn’t look like a crystal to me. It look too chaotic inside to be a solid object ( I.e. why I think it’s actually a portal but without the “gate” to contain it)

It also looks like the whole shape is quivering around the edges like it isn’t a solid object

If you look at the portals at home from the side, they also have a swirling effect. Which could explain the whole storm around Eden if the portal wasn’t contained.

My theory is that sky kids like protectors of the Sky world

We’re told at the beginning that we’re suppose to bring light back to the world

And when going to eden there’s lots of statues of frozen sky kids and especially at eye of eden

Well the only real concern I have with this theory is the timeline. You see you have been sent after a long time has passed according to the intro. And they call a child of light with a cape “enlightened” in the concept art. So when you free those frozen/stone children and they burst out with capes (which means they’re enlightened and not just normal children of light) did they have capes like you did going into Eden’s storm or were they normal capeless children of light?

Because if they already had capes before the diamond ♦️ exploded then it would mean there were a ton of super powered flying children of light and they couldn’t do, together, what you did single handedly alone

I have a thing to say about butterflies.
The butterflies are attracted towards light... ALWAYS.And they are themselves a form of light. That's why they are always found in a group. When we fly near them they come to us, cause we have light too. Also, I belive when we honk. The circle going outwards is light not a sound wave. That's why butterflies get attracted when we honk. In the prarie elder cutscene, the elder take light and makes a butterfly, that's why I belive they are pure light. The butterfly circles us cause yeasssssss, it's attracted to light. Then it sits on elder's shoulder cause the elder has light now. The pot which the elder has also has light coming out of it. That's why the butterfly instantly goes in the pot. However, I think the butterflies stop moving or flying when there's darkness. That's why the prairie temple is dark. When the gate opens, the temple get filled with light and the butterflies come out bcause they get attracted to light

Okay so what have we decided as a general rule of thumb when dealing with the memory of one spirit that has other spirits in their spirit memory but we’ve never experienced those other spirits memories? They died differently? Weren’t corrupted by darkness? Ascended the beacon?

So iv formalized my theory a little bit more. Here goes.

Dark plants allow us to relive the memories of spirits by (infecting?) them and retaining certain memories. As to what those memories are I’m not sure since there doesn’t seem to be a specific event that triggers that saving of a memory.

My evidence for this is that both dark plants and the orb you burn to relive a memory sound and look very similar (see close up of orb for visual similarity).

We also see from the spirit in hidden forest that the orb, whatever that may be, can be (infected) by dark plants which would reinforce the idea that plants are what allow us to relive a memory.

Along the same lines I would say that dark plants were harvested by the spirits when they were alive and processed into candles to be burned. The evidence for this isn’t as strong but my link for this is that when you burn them, both candles and dark plants leave behind collectible light. As well as the fact that when you burn candles at elders shrines you can relive/contact them.

Ooh! I was actually thinking about that today. So, the GW is way more industrialized than the Forest. The Forest has one light juicer while the GW has many. So, the goop is implied to be a byproduct of the diamond-creation process. I think that the rain is a very, very diluted form of it, that was sent up into the air, got collected along with dust and other stuff in the clouds, and then came down in the form of precipitation.

The water in the Forest doesn’t have iridescence like the goop in the GW and Eden. Also, once the rain stops, standing in it doesn’t hurt you. Only the rain drains your light. Since darkness is drawn to light (to reach equilibrium), there are so many darkness plants near the Forest juicer, and the stuff that rains down is the liquid pollutant. At least, in my opinion.

So my theory is:
Isle: A small town a place that civilization started got attacked by krills hence the holes.

Prairie: Sort of got damaged hence the BIG holes and the sudden stop of the bell towers.

Forest didn't get attack but the krills tried to but knocked trees instead so they retreated cuz the trees are close together.

Valley: Again. they retreated into fear because of the warriors, and some warriors led them to Golden Valleys (Golden Wasteland)
Wasteland: Krills got mad and rampaged everything destroying homes,destroying giants.

Theories about the Elders:

Isle: Isle is usually seen as an outcast in most theories. That's what I know at least.

Prairie: They may seem wholesome but some theories suggested that Prairie breeds animals to be used for diamonds. Some say Prairie was supposed to be the protector of light creatures but because of them slacking off they became diamonds.

Forest: Some people observes that Forest may be the founder of Diamonds and Forest is an industrialized place to make diamonds

Valley: Well, can't think of anything

Wasteland: They are speculated to also be a heavy industrialize place to again, make diamonds and is the leader of the Diamond side (before switching to the Sun. if you agree in Two Shields Theory) and some people say that Wasteland also used to be a forest before people cut it down to make factories

Vault: No idea

Diamonds are the ones you light up in Forest to open the gates. Anyways, based in concept art: To make diamonds, you get a light creature (manta, butterflies, jellyfish, etc.) to be squished and boom a diamond.

As for elder theories, here are some:
The elders used to be able to fly
The isle elder enabled our flight
The forest elder made several diamond prototypes before they finally succeeded
The prairie elder foresaw the fall of the kingdom
Skids, or who they used to be (most likely the king and/or prince) existed before the fall and knew the rhythm troupe and all the elders
The forest and vault elders are related
The valley elders are twins
