It was changed to current version probably to emphasis something...? The elders attitude? Or frustration that no one came so long? 🤔

I think forest is worst than valley despite being farther from the storm is due to forest constantly being harvested from (wood and materials for power diamonds?) so it got damaged by that too. also valley is in a valley so the geography could have protected it from some of the storm's destruction

Could be due to them using a col to take the impossible-to-get-elements from season of prophecy. Since no mortal was able to get them. They abused those elements for their own reasons and ended up being consumed by it (also each realm is kind of suffering from the element that has been used ex. heavy rain in forest)

I believe, personally, that an ancestor wearing a cape is a sign they were wealthy or influential - a member of the upper parts of society if not aristocracy, or an honored individual.
Then again I also believe the maskless are examples of the poor — which would mean that Stealthy Survivor is ??? being maskless and yet having a cape. Or they lost their mask.

@lethal stump pointed out a very good point that there’s a school of thought that the light beam we see the entire game isn’t generated by the diamond but rather existed before the diamond, in what concept art and story drafts call the holy land. The beam is thought to be the “bridge” allowing for the reincarnation of souls in Sky.
So the diamond in this scenario wouldn’t be making the beam, but actually be intended to be empowered by it (and arguably failing).
