Think about it, Sky children - needs cosmetic, use of emotes, a mask to wear, and reborn themselves to gather more light as well gain more boost for their capes. Boosts including, speed i think and more power.

I don’t think so, because if you go to eden the clouds are darker - when you finish the Vault area, there’s a barrier leading towards Eden. So the Vault is one of the entrance to eden, we collect spirits to unlock emotes but it also unlocks the door to Eden, there’s a question there - why is eden supposed to be locked? But anyways, the majority of the home island is water, looking around there is clouds, but look further - mostly water. What is beyond there? No dark clouds, no murky clouds like in Golden Wasteland

A follow up for both is that the sky children who are heading towards it are trying to light the corruption, the more who joined the more that falls into the darkness but if you think about it - the diamond in the centre is shining brightly. Maybe the light isn’t put out maybe it was taken? The red crystals/rocks could transfer their light to the corrupted prince/king to make him continue to live longer and getting closer to the diamond is the reason why the endless beating we get by going to eden is so that the king/prince has something to feed/live on as well to push the people who are trying to lighten him.

when the prince opened the ascension beam the elders wanted to go to orbit and go home and the spirits wanted a way to ascend without dying...
and that was the ascension beam...
but several elders were worried that if neutral creatures manipulated and used the light creatures' road to ascension, it would destabilze the network... so they kept it under guard...
but the duds that wanted to go to orbit were persistent and they made an army... they attacked wasteland and wasteland trained krill and fortified its factories... and then they fought...(how the war went is specified in the ver.1.0 and its super long so imma ommit that) then the war reached eden and whether it was an accident or on purpose the beam-emmittor blew up and thats why shards of it r still flying around in eden...
so now the ascension beam could only be opened temporarily by the prince and small er cuz the eimmitor was gone.. so the king went and hid in orbit and the war ended... but vast amounts of resources were exhausted by the war and a lot of the working class was now dead.. so then came famine and disease... the spirits decided this was all the elders` fault and they rebelled and imprisoned the elders in limbo
with no clear leader and very little magical protection with the elders in limbo, the ancestors descended into anarchy and it all went south with all the famine and disease and infighting and so they went extinct... so thats how it all came to be
