OK THEORY TIME
So in the concepts, there was a problem with ancestors being disconnected from the megabird, which makes absolute sense given that they never actually got to interact with the megabird after they were born.
A child in the stars could easily have had the same problem and fallen to the ground.
Thing is, ancestors are very much able to get attached to children, and the child was able to attach back to them.
The child grew strong and was able to gain a certain amount of their power back. Using this, the child tried to reconnect with Megabird. Why this failed or why succeeding was not as good as hoped is currently unknown. Perhps Megabird didn't feel the same attachment the child did, and that left the kid torn between the people who raised them and the one who created him, literally ripping them appart.

Even if there were multiple star children who fell and returned, it's possible that we return not because we can't stay in he sky, but because as stars, we can't get the connection that we need. Stars are distant from eachother by nature of being in the sky.

Things fell apart before understnding this was fully realized and the sytem was put into place, but perhaps we are reborn the way we are because that's the only way we can stay lit in the sky
