I think it was a Golden City that was eventually taken over by darkness.
The Sky People tried to fight off the darkness but were facing defeat. So they constructed the Ark as a contingency plan.

so basically what i think is going on is that skids = king = eden elder we don't see and can't save rn = the child of light you see in the intro scene
wl were at one point called 'imprints of the child of light'
7 trails from the sky fall down in the intro, and there's a middle trail that falls down to the star above the eden castle in the intro (though it starts from the middle of the clouds), so i think this is the child of light coming down to the world of sky as the king but in a different form
king's physical body is destroyed by the explosion of the eden diamond, his soul (the golden shiny boy you see at the end)/ the child of light form of him is in the diamond
the child of light's imprints are scattered throughout the realms due to the storm, or they are like memories of the king in his time when he was alive
skids may have been modeled after the child of light, and carry its imprints in them, kinda like reliving the king's memories and paths he took in sky
this is a theory and not a confirmation of what actually happened

Ooh isn't weird thay sky kids need to first see a spirit & mimic its mouvement as if they don't even know how to move/interct by them selves & are just lost & don't know who they are

it's not that weird spring: sky kids knew how to scratch themselves, but "language" and "communication" is something that kinda has to be learnt/figured out

gestures only make sense when there's at least one person sending the message and one person receiving/understanding it, so it kinda makes sense that the sky kid would need to learn how to convey an idea from someone else
something like pointing probably makes intuitive sense, but in the absence of a civilisation, how would you know that nodding means "yes" and shaking your head is "no"?

i can't really see them growing up because i don't think they have anything to grow up to be, either -- they seem like they're already doing all that they're meant to do in the game
