There is an animated series in the works called Two Embers but it won't release until at least next year
The other fun part is there are multiple layers of story, from what we see, what it means in a life stage, what it means in that time of day, what the music scores and themes add, and your own interpretations and emotions you felt while playing, they're all equally valid and often inform one another, and aren't limited to just those categories either.
i know that randomize names might not actually mean anything but when you do randomize a name for a friend that was made, is it how they commonly name others?
also what do you think how the denezins of the sky kingdom make their food (food culture basically, exp: midteranian food, chinese food ect)
I'm not sure what you mean. The randomized name seems to be generated by your device, and as far as I can tell, it's not even unique to that person. I.e. different people told me what my autogenerated name was and it was different between them. But it seems consistent for you (i.e. if you delete your customized name, their autogenerated name will be shown as the default)
It's kinda hard to tell since the only animals we actually see are flying fish, and the only time we see an Ancestor try to grow crops it doesn't go very well since it happens in the middle of a desert. There is also a deer but attempts to catch it went very poorly for the entire town. So... I'm not really sure they ate very often
there are tiny fish in the water as seen in home and daylight parie and also a camp in the wasteland where there are crabs by the fire
ok ignore me in stupid
No, it's ok, it's a pretty reasonable question
Sorry, could you dm me the post?
I like to see it as Indifference to 🫵you: the other skykid, until you make contact with them. Because then the lack of Connection between the two of you is now bridged

i don't DM people i don't know. there are screenshots of the post in question linked within the message you replied to
What do you guys think of this?
(The comment was from a video talking about the 6th quest of the Season of Shattering: https://youtu.be/3EN_cqSDrbc?si=MKizTYFSrXo8o9Rz)
The Forest Elder is there (all of them are)
I see. Maybe they just didn’t see the Forest Elder?
My friend and I saw the Forest Elder just earlier
But I really like the theory written there
So, I was taking pics of the Elder memory and everyone's masks. But, I need to know, was Wasteland elder missing for anyone else?? I've taken pictures of the memory before and know he was there, but couldn't get a pic because I clipped into his cape lol. Now he's just... missing? It's probably a bug but I just wanted to make sure
Like, here is where he was previously. Between Isle Elder (left) and Forest Elder (right). I'm like 99% sure it has to be a bug but who knows lol
I think it is meant to be important, yes! That is a good description
Possibly, I actually played journey yesterday for the first time aswell and it was very interesting, another theory I saw when searching around is that they were machines yet also living, and were corrupted by the darkness. But you’re probably right about not knowing until two embers
It is only concept art so maybe we will yet learn that the real story is something else https://youtu.be/hOqt7K9VW98?&t=9m (This YouTube link is a recording of The Art Of Sky Skyfest event at the time stamp mentioning King lore)
Yeah I had that happen too, it might be a bug but maybe not?
Thanks! I had to double-check, it turns out Prairie Elder was also missing. I'm still wondering what the heck is up with that.
Weird, yeah maybe it is a bug lol
Oh, I did get some pics of the mask up close, though, in case anyone is interested :3
the Ruler fits Prometheus fairly well, actually. it's not that there was a pantheon of Titans that they stole from, but the Titans in Sky's case can easily be equated to the Light. yeah, it was gifted to him, but like you said, they just kept taking and taking. in the beginning, this light did give rise to advancements in technology and civilization in general, allowing the kingdom to expand its knowledge of the world around them. it's basically the same thing that happened with humans when Prometheus gifted them fire. of course, nothing is 1:1.
Prometheus also notably became something of a figure for the overzealous quest for knowledge from humans that usually ended with unintended consequences, which is comparable to the Ruler too.
as for Prometheus' nigh eternal punishment of having his guts eaten every day over and over again, this can line up a bit with the Shattering and the eternal explosion of the darkstone in Eden, which the Ruler succumbed to for the rebirth of life that would save the kingdom. all of it is pretty suitable.
another interesting note of symbolism is that way back during the times of those myths in that culture is that the liver used to be thought as the seat of emotion—that sort of fits the Eden darkstone too, since it can symbolize trying to contain the ambition of the Ruler, only to burst, and the kingdom suffers the consequences of that.
So it turns out crabs can honk after all!
Thought this was reserved to light creatures/ancestors/krills
no, i think all forms of life have some variation of honk to them, pretty much all of them give off the light when they make noise. corrupted crabs are part of the exception, though i'm not sure why. like you said, even krill honk.
Even the ones from the shard memories have a call. Or whatever it is.
There is a crab whisperer.
It is just uncommon to see normal crabs make calls I suppose, lol.
Np
I wonder what account that is tho
I think crabs are light cratures!
they are! but a lot of them have been corrupted. the only places you can find uncorrupted crabs are at the bonfire in the Wasteland graveyard and backstage in the Concert Hall in the Aviary
Dark clams look kinda red underwater
My theory is that crabs are light on the inside, just with a stone (dark) shell. My other theory is that the ancestors were also like this.
There is also a small island in the Sanctuary that has some uncorrupted crabs
oh yeah!
I actually seem to recall reading that at some point they had a concept for players competing with NPCs for "motes" (back when they were basically door keys/puzzle solution pieces instead of currency). From what I remember, they played with the concept of the antagonists being "darkened" children like the player but it was confusing the playtesters so they replaced those NPC children with crabs
So in a meta sense, crabs kinda are what happens to skykids when they go darkside
#lore-discussion-spoilers message
i have bit of an only-slightly-serious theory that maybe some crabs were once sky kids or ancestors
Please expound
really just based on crabs having 4 legs giving them a resemblance to crawling sky kids getting covered in stone in eden. that and a comment that there's a reason their walk cycle appears as it does. also some old concept art shows the wasteland elder once conceptualized as turning into some weird crab/spider thing with like a human hand drawn in the art so the imagery of 'person turning into crab' stuck with me
lore chat, i need help
for an animatic, im tryna depict a montage of the king's mistakes / the damage he caused, and i think i need more examples. ive already got:
- an ancestor with corruption on his arm
- dark plants
- a krill in the distance
- eden
- and (bc im basing this on Two Embers as well) stewie/dusk with their corrupted-fin manatee
if anyone has any suggestions of other stuff to add, i'd be glad to hear it
I mean... light creatures getting trapped and processed, toxic rain in the Forest as a byproduct, Wasteland being, well, a wasteland...
It wasn't all just the Ruler though. The Ancestors seemed all too happy to juice mantas to charge their iLamps until mantas started turning into krill
yeah i know, it's just for a meme though, not to be taken too seriously 😌
ty for the suggestions tho!! the trapped light creature is a good one
Also, can confirm this crab is fully a light creature because it actually recharges light (though this doesn't work at the actual tournament area for some reason)
Or it could be that the cup is a light creature
It probably still counts the same as a generic event guide spirit mechanically, and those do normally recharge you. Even "carry spirits" recharge you for some reason, despite being so weak they need to be carried to their own memories. A lot of this stuff works that way for gameplay reasons and doesn't make a ton of sense if taken at face value as a representation of in-universe physics
I think this was another thing Jenova talked about in the Designing to Reduce Toxicity presentation. They were basically trying to design gameplay that would naturally encourage people to actually stick together and cooperate, and they tried a bunch of different things, and basically it wasn't until they made players recharge each other that they started to actually prefer hanging out together rather than fight over whatever else might recharge them
The problem with that is of course at that point you've just thrown the laws of thermodynamics or even conservation of energy out the window. Which is fine for gameplay purposes, but is a problem for world building, in particular if you're trying to tell a meaningful story about impacts of industry on environment that actually makes sense if you think about it and doesn't just tug at the heart strings
To clarify, the presentation talked about them trying to design cooperative gameplay. My rambling about thermodynamics is just me. Though I would hope they also understand it on some level as they work on Two Embers
It,s canon?
Why do we call it orbit?
not sure if this fits in here but what are y’alls headcanons for the spirits in sky :3
So far it hasn't been explicitly shown in the final game, but it us is hinted at (and it mentioned in concept art) that the darkstone (which powers the Ancestor technology) was charged with light from the creatures. I assume not literally all Ancestors were happy with that, but I also doubt the Ruler had to literally force them to use it from the start
It's called "orbit" in the concept art, and I'm assuming even people who haven't seen the concept art might call it "orbit" simply because it's in space. TGC's original intention was to try and induce the "overview effect" in the player (similar to what some astronauts have reported to experience), which is why they made the game end in "space" in the first place
Though, from my understanding, the overview effect mostly comes from seeing Earth from space and gradually realizing that "borders" are a made up concept are we all ultimately just live on the same rock in space and should maybe try to be nicer to it (and each other). Given that the final game doesn't even really seem to take place on Earth (and you can't actually see the planet from space anyway) I'm not really sure how the overview effect is supposed to happen. It does look really nice though
when does the word dark stone first used?
if there's any mentions from the game itself
The game doesn't even mention it as "darkstone" as such. It doesn't really show up until the Forest but apparently the Ruler had something to do with discovering it and that may have been what started the migration from the Isle
The term is used in the concept art though
In game though, I think even during the Abyss quests where you're literally gathering darkstone power crystals, the game just calls them "resources" or something similar
who do you think these winged lights are at the top of the elders' shard memory
if i had to guess, it would represent the Dawn and Dusk Embers, especially given that there are 2 and that they might be revealed to have a close relationship in The Two Embers, and also (i'm theorizing) that since they're under the crown of the Ruler, their connection/relationship suffered because of who the Dawn Ember grew up to be
So what i am understanding in this game, Spirits are all dead??? So sky is like post apocalyptic of a ruined civilization?
I've been playing in 2 months
Kinda
So all the spirits we encounter are ghost.
Then we are child of light survivors and some other players are also survivors?
Not exactly, by what i understood, a big bird god in the sky named light alarmes the people in the past about dark=bad, no one cared and they all died, bird decide to send you to the world so u may try to fix the mess
So we fix the adults messes.... what in the child labor 😭😭😭
More like a Steven-complex lol
What's that? Steven universe??
Worse, Sky: CotL
ye lol
A child burdened with the mistakes of adults they have no part in, learning to control powers they gained from powerful beings, and have to face a darkness from the world, as well as their own.

Oh damn.... that's actually real life works too.
The part that the realms represents the human life
Looking too much into things
Sky is chock full of social commentary if we’re being honest
Im either too dumb or too happy to notice them
Why so many fancy doors in Forest? Forest elder must have love some dramatic doors
more like disinterested. weird moth isn’t wrong about children having to deal with the messes that adults leave behind, which is essentially what we’re doing in the wake of the Kingdom’s collapse
it’s because of the steady advancements in technology likely pioneered by the Forest Elder that involved a material we know as darkstone, which requires light to operate, making it a sort of battery. in Forest, you can see it utilized in simple mechanics like the doors, and then you can see how it’s advanced dramatically in the Valley of Triumph.
Oooooh i see i see.
I forgot stuff already cuz my brain is filled of candle running.
What are the seasons that align with the lore and the seasons that doesn't?
I think little prince & 9colorDeer doesn't relate to the lore but just similar in terms of values and lesson with sky
But i think aurora contributes to the lore
pretty much all of the seasons are based in lore, but the first 3 are tenable ties at best because they were the earliest seasons with little fleshed out. since The Little Prince and 9 Colored Deer are collabs, they don’t have any real canon ties? but their themes are very much in line with the world of Sky.
Dreams, Assembly, and Nesting are some others that revolve more around the lives of the former kingdom than its history.
Alright, so what is the entire lore of thia game?
that’s a tall order but in the best summary i can manage:
all life lives and dies through the light. it is an endless cycle of death and rebirth where everything is in perfect harmony.
ages before the era of sky children, 4 prophets foretold the rise of one who would become ruler, but they would only do so after the chosen faces the four trials and succeeded. many attempted but failed, until a child (supposedly) fell from the sky and would go on to try it themself. they succeeded, and was made ruler of the kingdoms uniting the realms that had already existed before them.
having succeeded at the four trials, the chosen was granted the gift of light. with the light, the Ruler utilized it to bring prosperity to the kingdom they had united, appointing a single elder to rule each realm, and there is peace for many ages. However, upon the discovery of a material known as darkstone, and that it could be combined with the power of the light to create mechanisms beyond imagination, under the Ruler’s guide, the kingdom began to consume more and more light to power their machines and civilization, and make continuous advancements and their technology.
where the kingdom was supposed to coincide with nature in harmony through the continuous cycle, the kingdom began to overindulge in the divinity they were granted, creating structures and monuments that honored themselves while continuing to snuff the life out of creatures that they were supposed to take care of, creatures that had cared for and guided them for ages before.
when the point came that the kingdom had consumed more than they were being given, chaos began to spread throughout the kingdom with the disruption of the cycle, and it would eventually fall to ruin through war and strife.
at some point during all of this, the ruler was crafting a large darkstone for purposes unknown to us at this time, and it was a contributing factor to the overconsumption of light that they had been granted. It seems that what happened was that the darkstone was charged with too much light, fuller than its capacity could handle, and it shattered. I assume this is what the catalyst was for the ultimate downfall of the kingdom.
In the end, it seems that the Ruler sacrificed themself to save what was left of their kingdom and bring about a race of descendants who would one day restore balance to the kingdom and the light.
ultimately that leads to us,the children of the light, whose job it is to help repair the cycle that all life lives and dies through.
this is a hugely compressed version of my own interpretation based on all of the material that I’ve read and seen, though it is in large part generally agreed upon
My lord
This is why folks cannot simply 'summarise' the lore.
The short answer would be something long these lines:
- Wait And Find Out (WAFO)
- Sky is a game
- Sky lore is open to interpretation
- Sky lore are like onions (they have layers)
There is a lot to the lore and the story of the game.
I'd give a short answer that the story is about an ancient civilisation that relied on some power source while Light and Darkness used to live in harmony. But greed and war made it crumble into ruin and Darkness spread from Eden. The skykids are tasked to restore that balance, while they learn more about this kingdom and its ancestor spirits along the way.
spirits build the realms, they die because of bad technology, we have to save them
The shortest possible answer
speaking of uniting the kingdom/realms, until recently I hadn’t really figured how the Season of Flight related to lore until i read that the Wind Paths were the first connection between all of the realms as opened by creatures of Light guided by the bells created by the guides that reside there… even tho the opening line clearly states that lol.
i’m not sure if it was the guides who had figured this out, that they could use these bells to coax the creatures of Light into creating paths that would connect the realms, or if the creatures of Light inherently knew and sort of used the bells as markers. or maybe that could’ve been the goal of the guides all along, to use the creatures of Light to create these paths.
:)
Hello there chat I am very curious, Who's the Prince? Because I only know that there was a King
iirc season of the little price was based off a book with the same name, dk if has any lore relevance
Why bird laying on the rock
To my knowledge, the Prince is a character who (do not quote me on this, this is just what I remember so if someone can correct me that’d be great) was raised by the isle elder (if I’m remembering correctly) and was the first to pass any of the trials. It’s also speculated that the Prince is a sky kid?? I thiiiink? I don’t know if the Prince is still relevant in canon lore, but in concept art he’s referred to as Alef, and the King as Resh. And it’s thought that Alef later becomes Resh??
Please take my words with a grain grain of salt because I’m only remembering/saying what I heard Tem and a few others say in here, as I am a frequent lurker and occasional chatter in here. And also, a lot of sky lore is up to interpretation so it’s really hard to actually know for sure what’s canon and what’s not. Soo 😭 don’t take my words as “true canon !!!” Because I am not nearly as knowledgeable as other people are in here.
It's from an old version! Where there were animal spirit memories
The Prince and the King are 99% the same characters. In Two Embers, they are the bald child
The same bald child in isle that can be seen in the follow me spirit ?
Where was Skykid heading at the very beginning of the game, when we were flying in the clouds, and then we fell on the then unknown Bird Village? Was this another reincarnation or something else? Someone has theories about this?
not sure about the Prince being raised by the Isle Elder, but you're right about the Prince being the first to pass all 4 of the trials, and they were certainly sent off by denizens of Isle as well as the Isle Elder, as shown in the murals inside the Cave of Prophecies.
the common theory that the Prince was a Sky kid is, by me, because 1) they fell from the sky like a star (shown in the Ushering Stargazer's memory), and 2) they seemed to be imbued with Light, if the Prophecies murals are anything to go by. it's also commonly believed that yes, the Prince does become the Ruler.
it is worth nothing that nothing we say is true canon, to be honest. it's been beaten into the ground, but everyone says that all we see in Sky is up to interpretation.
I remember seeing somewhere from either in here or on the lore wiki page someone was working on, that the Prince was raised by Isle Elder or one of the elders at least?? But I don’t know if that’s true or not, or if there’s even any merit to it lol
if i had to guess, i don't think we were headed anywhere. since this replaced the opening where we simply wake up on the shores of the Isle of Dawn, i want to say that us flying through the sky is after just having been born and experiencing life and flight and freedom for the first time—then struck down by what plagues the Kingdom as a hint to what we'll have to do in the coming life. landing in the Aviary is definitely lore-related and will probably be explored in the TTE since it's where we meet and reawaken the Hopeful Steward, who is almost certainly the Dusk Ember.
I kinda wish the lore of sky wasn’t so up to interpretation, because there’s just so many variances and little things that need to be considered. But it’s also fun theory crafting and stuff. I just like having concrete, confirmed lore 😭
sky is like dark souls, but even less clear
honestly, i do believe there are some things that are concrete, but i don't want to say as much because it's been so emphasized that everything is up to interpretation.
I also think that too, but like you said everything is up to interpretation.
Then why we don't able to see more Skykids in the beggining? We didn't see others from start, but after a while we able to see only dark figures of us after a while(then raised other question: if we have a light from born + clothes and only "damaged" dosen't has these, then why it dosen't count as "damaged"?).
when i first started to play Sky, i believed it was a single player game until i ran across another player who i truly thought was an NPC. yeah, Sky is an online multiplayer game and we're all living the same story, but when you look at it from the perspective of traditional MMOs, you are the protagonist. do we all save the Kingdom and Light cycle? sure, but so do you. everyone else being there is just a sense of community, layers that show how we're all doing this together in the end.
So, you mean, all players aren't visible from start, because for better storytelling?
since i've never played the new entrance of the game, i'm not sure if you ever run into anyone in the ruins of the Aviary, but when i first landed in Isle of Dawn, i didn't see another play until i landed on the temple island. while it's not rare to see other players in the Isle of Dawn, it's certainly more uncommon than running into them in other realms thereafter, and that doesn't seem to be on accident.
Isle is vast and empty and certainly invokes a sense of being alone and wondering where everyone else is. i'm not sure what the coding is behind it, if they intend for fewer players to spawn together to hold up that illusion of isolation, or if it's just a matter of getting lucky. ultimately, yes, all players are visible from the start, it's just a matter of if you spawn near each other, which isn't common because i think the servers related to Isle are programmed differently.
Definitely, also in the cave of prophecies
More will come in Two Embers for sure, but I think Aviary Village is important as the "starting base of operations" for the skykids. It's very well designed for them, it makes me think Hopeful Steward designed the place with us in mind
That was a very old concept art, but it's no doubt been removed or updated by Two Embers
There's plenty of solutions to the "multiplayer problem", but the easiest one is that we're simply the first new skykid to come down. The player saves the spirits and restores the world, and everyone else comes after us.
I think the reason for Isle's percieved 'emptiness' is how vast the server is, you have this massive area so even if there's 8 players, you won't really meet it.
In the new aviary intro, you can see players as early as the Aviary, once you've done the bell quest
...When before us nothing happens, how did you will explain shared memories/places?
Sorry for this crowding, but I only have a limited amount of time to chat, so I like to respond to older messages
i think they meant nothing happens in regards to saving the Kingdom/reviving it happens.
tons of things certainly happened, but there was probably quite a gap between the Kingdom's downfall and our birth
"The dead desert time"
So, why did we appear then?
That's very open, but it could be that the recently downfalled world was too dangerous for skykids, and it needed some time to heal
After a long time, yeah, sounds strange.
the Light gave birth to us, i think, to help restore the balance. i assume anyway.
Maybe something happened that our skykids dont know about (naturally because they dont know/remember much, if at all, of any time before they arrived. They learned more about the world after the fact).
It says 'centuries ago, before the stars fell' in the first switch trailer, and it shows the Two Embers when the prince was still a child and the kingdom was new.
It's very interesting, because it implies the kingdom collapsed in a single generation (as the king grew up), which is what a person here predicted a long time ago:#lore-discussion-spoilers message
So it has been centuries since the ancestor spirit era
the Light isn't a sentient thing in the sense of humans feeling emotions, but it is. a living thing, i suppose. think of the Light as being sick. it created us to help heal it, sort of like we're white bloodcells.
My last message about standart problem of some games: If we appear as hero, then why we appear on the end of someone "evil plan"?
there was no evil plan. what the King, the Kingdom, and its people did was not with the intention of evil action, it was just human greed. they wanted more and more for themselves at the cost of the gift (the Light) they were given
I suspect that the climax in Aurora's concert may hint at what may have changed that in turn brought skykids down to the realms.
When a pair of lone embers come together, and they create new light. And from this new light, more light became to gather. Like a phoenix from the ashes, the lights became skykids, which megabird may gave up its light to make it happen.
Skykids arrived and the realms began to slowly heal as the darkness is cleansed.
as the saying goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
So, does that means "something happened", that created other situation for creating us at "some time" and we've been in "right place" to do "a big mision"?
i suppose you could say so. like Raider said, when a pair of lone embers come together... this could play into the King's sacrifice, the Dawn Ember seeking out the Dusk Ember so that they could join the Light in a way that would eventually give birth to us in a reaction akin to the human immune system.
Then it explains random appear of Skykids
But it dosen't explain the unknown siluete situation, sadly
TGC is known to take a different approach to gameplay. And this goes to what the player's role is in the story.
The skykid (yours, mine, anyone's individual avatar) are not the protagonist (the hero).
The game makes this clear with how small we are compared to other characters, how weak we are alone. And in spite of our efforts to restore, we are but a spark that started up change rather than being the main driving force behind that change.
I have some sources to link if you like to read on it.
An older article I read about the game went over how the game uses a Collective Journey model rather than a story telling format known from TGC older game, Journey, that was based on the Hero's Journey (aka the Monomyth).
Sky focuses heavily on the idea that people's own individual stories are what matters. It is not the singular story of one 'main character' that overshadows others. It is the way how skykid's stories weave together. And from that weave, there is some amount of power and strength to build upon.
There are a few films and games that make use of this.
Think of Marvel's Avengers where different heroes come together to fight a greater evil, as an example
you have to remember that Sky is a game. games have game mechanics that don't always tie into lore or have lore-based reasons for why they work the way they do.
i know that isn't a satisfying answer in a game where we get no solid answers, but sometimes at the end of the day, that's all it could be.
At least I understand situation(I think), thanks for this discussion!

A small observation I want to highlight here (hoping if it was not brought up before, it can be explored then and there).
I like how the recent days of competition (aka, the 'Sky Olympics' as I like to call it) made yet another change/update to the Valley Coliseum.
I played this game long enough to still remember a time where the coliseum had no ice rink, but a cloudy centre where you land on a platform at the centre. This recent change added this platform and bridge back, as well as reviving an old asset where the valley shrine acts as a 'scoreboard' for the races.
This has not only revived an old controversial change where the races used to be more competitive. As in Light Awaits, players used to be able to race in teams (red and blue), and the winners were able to celebrate with their team colours in the coliseum.
This aspect was removed to make the races 'less competitive' for players who did not want to compete, or would be upset to be on the losing team.
The stage appearance also harps back to some concept art and scrapped cutscenes of the valley elders raising a platform.
Presumably for events, or a ritual of celebration.
Here are the concept art in question.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkdCC26thq8
(these older elder cut scenes used to hit hard, lol)
Old version of what, the game or a season? Are there other fragments laying around like this? I can't tell if it's made of snow or a dead bird or what the tiny stone on its tail feather is for.
I also don't think I've seen a bird this big 🤔 it's the mantas that go from so smol it could be mistaken for a bird to release the kraken size 😅
Back in Light Awaits.
The game was in early development (think of it like Alpha Minecraft).
There was an old scrapped quest/mechanic where you complete a quest to summon animal spirits (bird, eel, sea turtle, manta etc. if I am not mistaken)
These spirit animals can no longer be summoned. But the stone platforms where you see their constellations where you used to find them still exist in the game.
There was a bug in beta briefly where I could sort of trigger one of the creature cutscenes (where you collect light fragments). I don't think there were fragments though, I only know it worked because I heard the meditation sound.
They patched it quickly.
(My heart yearns for it to work someday...)
That is sad.
Imagine TGC adds them back in as a special quest.
They wont have to be as common as the ones we have done on a regular basis.
And they can be either associated with a past season, or a new one.
It has not been a first time they have reworked a Light Awaits feature into a new update in this game.
I do wonder...
Perhaps the change was to reflect the current lore. The world was still in flux back then, though the roots were absolutely there.
We do see them somewhat return the concept with the shard events though!
Yes.
I understand that the game has come a long way, and the story it has told has changed somewhat as well.
The old story was very interesting, at least from what one can gather from old concept art. Which in turn may not be what the actual game was going for then.
What I hypothesis happened is TGC were trying to add in as many features as they could to help tell the story.
But possibly realised a few things:
- their technology or game engine was limited.
- If they wanted the game to run for years, they would need to retcon some features and have them released later on as updates.
- some features did not quite fit the narrative they wanted to tell at the time. So opted to keep it in their work space to tinker and polish until they want to release it later.
- some features had more issues worth resolving at the time (similar to the limited tech issue), so rather removed it so they can have a working product that can be updated later on.
This in turn gives us something to ponder about where some concept art can potentially be a future feature in its early stages.
It may not be true theory, but is certainly within the realm of speculation for us to explore.
Absolutely!! And I think the primary storyline in Sky hasn't changed much over the years.
The descendants return to a broken world to restore the light
The main theme seems pretty much the same.
A world of Light and Darkness in a balance. A mystical power in crystals mined from the ground.
Ancestors and Ancients - I mean, Elders, who built up a thriving kingdom in the realms that once lived in harmony.
Then something terrible happened that involved Eden, the King and in some way the skykids.
Many years have passed since the darkness has spread across the realms and now the skykids have arrived to help put the pieces back together.
Here's some intro sequences that were used in 2019. Might give people some insight
Also sorry about the quality, I don't have a Bilibili account, I am in the states
Why is there a missing screenshot 😭 I just took these
Here's the source of the second image gallery and the missing screenshots
For a brief time I remember the isle starting cave having murals of mantas. Does anyone have pictures of that? I can't find them online anywhere
Is it only me that never understands sky murals?
The OG intro cutscene was a great start in my opinion for the player starting a new game for the first time.
The one in Dawn told a similar story, but clearly had some changes.
But the mystery the gave, it helped lay the foundation to learn more about this ancient world. ❤️
FOR REAL. When I saw that intro for the first time, I knew, this game is special. This is the start of a great journey.
The intros are confusing, no worries! I still don't know the relation between stars and spirits
For what it is worth, that confusion felt quite fitting!
You and the character you play as get to bond, as both of you are confused and unsure of the world as you explore.
You get to relate with their naïve and innocence as you learn more about the world.
You and your skykid get to grow as you continue to experience new things in the realms.
The game relying on emotional story telling emphasises the connection you develop with the game, the characters and with your skykid.
Which murals in particular? Maybe I can help a bit
The ones at d cave of prophecy 🧐
Oh yes and the forgotten ark ones at the crab tunnels (if u get what I mean)
Ah well. The thing is, people can have theories, but no one KNOWS what the murals mean. All we can do is speculate.
Here's my interpretations.
Cave of Prophecy- shows the prophecy of the origin of kingdom. I believe it shows a prophecy of the king bringing light to the realms. I think it also shows his involvement in the migration of creatures, though it's hard to tell what's going on.
With the crab murals, I believe crabs are pots! Somehow come to life, something to do with light and maybe dark water
It took me a while to find the Wasteland Elder(my beloved) because they are far behind the Isle Elder. Anyway, here they are(the one with the cape). You can also see the Prarie Elder near the top left
I was able to get pics of them today as well, I love that shot though, thank you
No problem! I just thought I’d send it just in case
this is the first I've heard of crab-pot theory, I'm so intrigued
The Bald Child
I'm so sorry but it caught me off guard 😭
they're not that bald they (as far as I remember) have a short floof of hair (I think)
(at least in the trailers)
if you lurk long enough in this channel you may have a hold of it
I may want to compile the lore someday
in fairness they look bald in the game lol
i do like that they changed it to just super short-cut hair in the show
we all are bald vessels when we are out of light 😔
b a l d
Tnx for the explanation. At least I get it a little now
Someome told me to ask here, could the one brighter star be meant to be the prince (it looked much better in game i promise
)
Does anybody have a higher-quality version or original image of this picture hung up in the office? I tried Google Lens but it didn't work
I wish 😭
Maybe, that would be cool symbollically
Skids like krills when they aren't being chased by them
I don't think so, it's the creature that doesn't show up in cosmetics, even crabs have multiple props and stuff
Are we, as skykids classified in creatures of light?
whatever we have inside of us is made out of light, so yeah probably
the exception I think being the krill cape?
Not sure if there is one but a lot of the art on it seems to be from the Tom Zhao concept art website
Was there ever a cape less child
I think capeless skids are canon, iirc a dev mentioned during an offline meet & greet that their lack of wings is basically a disability
the funny thing is that we do, infact, have krill themed cosmetics
krill cape and hair from season shattering. As far as im aware, the only creatures that dont show up in cosmetics are whales, the abyss creature, the eel and the DoN worm (for sake of simplicity im gonna classify memories as mantas and lights/nightbirds as birds)
there’s also the krill cat and the krill balloon animal - not to mention an actual krill plush in the sky shop
Except Elder Whale if we think Fainting Warrior helmet is inspired by them.
We start as one
Resh concept art is my Roman Empire
It would have been so cool but I would be so Scared to go through Eden if that concept made it into the game 😭
Yeah no there’s NO way I’m getting past him😭
Eden was already scary enough when I first attempted it as a solo moth
Iam all ears kosmo
my heart tells me licorice but my head says (nothing terrible but still spoilering because it mentions a form of animal mistreatment) ||either like completely burnt or charred food (theyre implied to be created out of elder mantas, potentially suffered a lot of corruption of their form thats, well, made out of light hence their skeletal structure)|| or like metal (they make a weird machine-esque sound when you fly right by you and the darkness particles they emit and the dark water is implied to be oil waste, aswell as their mechanic looking search eyes)
Yummy
if were going with the really simple answer though. like shrimp
I prefer licorice
hiii, i haven’t played in a looooooong time and when i played there was this google doc with theories and like a time line of lore, is there anything like that but updated?? I just returned to the game a few weeks ago after two years away and there’s so much new stuff ooof
don't forget what we could've had
also hey, i just noticed the leviathan flying in the background despite seeing the image multiple times
imagine eden with one of those flying through the sky
There's a whole new intro sequence and tutorial, that's probably the biggest new thing you should check out, but there are new stuff as well
Here's an updated version: https://docs.google.com/document/d/12XSkaMV_5UYG-an_Qo37ItyKP6GaqBBA6iRqBVE2qck/edit#heading=h.cmfnuox3fw3h
There's lots of wholly new concepts, but a lot of stuff is just confirmation of things we already know
The new intro also explains where we got the candle we hold from.
So like how deep in the lore does this chat go
Quite deep, as there are theories that I never would've considered before seeing this chat
are there any widely fandom accepted names for the elders? even if not any of you have your own headcanon names for them? :]
Guys what sounds can the people in this lore make
WHY IS NOBODY ANSWERING
Wym sounds?
Ur pfp looks cute btw
there are but you can have your headcanon ones too ofc
ooh what are they :0
why does everyone wear masks??
Idk moans groans grunts ggiggles??
from https://sky-children-of-the-light.fandom.com/wiki/Elders
The Elders (plus the king & prince) have names based off Hebrew letters from concept development that are no longer canon, though the fandom sometimes refers to them as such:
Isle – Daleth (ד)
Prairie – Ayin (ע)
Forest – Teth (ט)
Valley – Samekh (ס) (They share a name, though the fandom refers to the spiky hair twin as Sah and the bobbed hair twin as Mekh.)[1]
Wasteland – Tsadi (צ)
Vault – Lamed (ל)
Prince – Alef (א)
King – Resh (ר)
Though it seems the devs refer to the Elders by the times of day their realms represent:
Isle – Dawn
Prairie – Day
Forest – Rain
Valley – Sunset
Wasteland – Dusk
Vault – Night
Eden – Storm
Credit to Alasdair#8513 on Discord for the info.
ooh thank you!!!
I hope dev make no limit in putting prop in nest...
I want to put so many things😔
chef kiss But also I 100% expected you to make a joke about how Sah's hair kinda looks like
👌
There is the honk or do you prefer the more fancy

It's probably just a cultural thing, for spirits
(its not mine i just copied it all from the website but thanks)
You're very welcome, OwO
<;
not lore related
try #live-feedback
I think it’s up for interpretation!
Real reason to avoid the uncanny Valley feeling. My headcannon is that they are cultural or even a form of protection from the darkness
I mean have you seen how uncanny maskless is?
Hey does anyone know anything about this stone typa thing (dk what to call it 😓) in forests social space? My guess is that its some sort of reserve for light but i could be wrong idk
So I’m starting to be self proclaimed relatively well-versed in Sky Lore, I do have a question about Vault. Did the ancestors begin to collect memory lanterns because it was foreseen that the kingdom and its denizens were going to fall? Or was it a practice that they started up just as a means of archiving their history?
That is more of a meta "rabbit hole"
You meditate there to leave a review of the game to get a free heart.
There is a second one in orbit that does the same thing. It only works once per account (activating one would deactivate the other)
There is a similar method where the merchant would create a meditation circle for you to access the skyshop website outsode of the game.
That is an interesting question.
It could be both.
It can be a way to record the history and knowledge of the ancestors.
It can also be a way for surviving ancestors to find comfort or closure in the memories of their loved ones (see season of remembrance).
Oh I see, so it's got nothing to w d lore then? 🥲
And tnx btw
Sky lore is open to interpretation (as how the devs like to put it).
so you can explore the idea with your own theories.
Could be both but I do feel strongly for the first as the vault elder could probably forsee the future hence the start of recording memories.
Sure 💪🏽
I think it was the latter, I don't think anyone knew the kingdom was going to fall until too late
It's even likely that Vault collaborated with Eden
i think it's entirely possible they started collecting memory lanterns even before they knew the kingdom was going down. vault is a library - real libraries collect history books and memoirs (among other things) even when there isn't imminent destruction.
From the Artbook:
"The Elder of the Vault was a contemporary prophet who saw the cataclysm and fatalities of 'harnessing' light. An archiving facility was built to research and preserve ancient and modern findings of the constellations."
Early concepts also showed the Vault elder being responsible for the Ark's construction, as a sort of escape plan for any survivors of the cataclysm, but I don't have the source for this. I believe it was shown in an old dev talk stream on yt
Ouuu
Anyway I hope it's okay I start with a new topic: Possible Roman Triumphs in Valley of Triumph!!
Because I just stumbled across a video talking about these and I was like "
that sounds like Valley"
So, in the art book, I read that the Valley of Triumph is heavily inspired by Rome, esp with the colosseum n stuff. This lead me to think that maybe we could relate Roman Triumphs to Valley as well, especially during the peak of the King. Here's a short summary from worldhistory.org:
I can imagine the Wasteland Elder and possibly other important military figures receiving such celebrations before the King decided to reserve it just for himself
I feel this could also very well fit Valley of Triumph's lavishness
You know what? Team Skybot.
Roman Triumphs for Skybot!? Okay
For this part, I think they might've initially included honoring the light religiously, which decreased to the point it was forgotten about the more celebrations they hosted for the king
Idk where to find a digital ver of the concept story layouts so I'm sorry about that, but here
I want to draw your attention to point 3, where the Valley Elders are said to be the ones who led such celebrations
4 also fits into what can be displayed in a Roman Triumph as well imo
I can also imagine such a celebration be done for the King's coronation (and btw, do you think the Elders were celebrated in Valley as well? Like not to this extent, but probably at least honored, right?)
Okay I'm done
Replying to my first message so you can jump to the start to read it all :)
Oh oh! One more thing and then I'm done I swear!
The concept name for the Valley Elders is Samekh, which is a Hebrew letter. All of these letters have some sort of philosophy behind them which I found could be related to the Elders perfectly (Isle has gate, Prairie has foresight, Forest has creation etc etc)... except I couldn't wrap my head around how Samekh related to the Valley Elders, as the (iirc) symbol of support among other things.
Well, given this context, it does make sense that they have this symbol, because they were the ones to host such celebrations, to uplift the King. No other Elders were so closely associated with just praising the King. They didn't discover or invent stuff, or physically defend the King, they were "just" producing propaganda about how great he is. Not working to actually contribute to his successes, but surely uplifting him
Can someone give me a quick rundown of all of the essential sky cotl lore?
Guess not
I would but I don't have all of the "essential" Sky lore 😭. I specialize in the Elders (particularly Forest, Valley and Wasteland) so most of my theories are focused on those, I do know some general stuff about the civilization as well (not in-depth) though so like,,, I can try
It's fine you don't need to if you don't think you can do it
No I want to it's just not complete
I probably won't be respecting much of the lore regardless
Okay then I'll just drop some things I know about the civilization and the Elders, alright? I'm sure others can add on
Starting with the civilization: From what I could gather, they were people who lived in the clouds and who worshipped the light. Their main objective was helping the light migrate into some special place where it would reunite with the "Megabird", some sort of cosmic web that connects all of us iirc.
The Elders were like special people among the civilians that recognized the light's power and helped it migrate... well, initially, they did. Later, they realized light could be harnessed for its power and they strayed from they original purpose.
Among these Elders was the most important one— the Child or the Prince. It seems this Child was guided by the Elders but became more independent later on as it grew into the King.
Fascinating (ty btw)
@smoky atlas do you want me to talk about the individual Elders as well? Else I'll just continue with the general course of the story
Général course of the story is fine, I only need the essentials
Oki!!
So the most important Elder is probably the Forest Elder here (the others are important too but I'd consider her a priority if I'm supposed to keep it short). She honed the Child's curiosity and she actually played a huge part in inventing the things they would use to capture and store light. I should probably talk about "Dark Stone" at this point bc it's pretty important but tbh I know n o t h i n g about it so you should probably just ask about that specifically as well, or type "dark stone" into the search function in this chat and then you'll find discussions about it. It's a central material that was mined for the creation of these machines.
These machines revolutionized their entire society (just look at Valley of Triumph), and they abandoned their light worship by this point (you can see that with the Forest Temple having been turned from a legitimate place of worship to a factory, apparently). They actually built a light-capturing mechanism in Eden to take as much from the light cycle as possible.
Which, uh, turns out, is a terrible idea, because disrupting the light migration meant that something like the Void (aka darkness aka corruption) could spread.
Oh! Also the King built his palace in Eden. This will be important later
I don't know why exactly but it seems like this light-capturing mechanism in Eden became unstable and exploded at some point. Either way, the King became trapped in Eden by his own creation and went berserk (This summary is lacking sooo much, it's just that I don't know much about the dark stones and Eden
)
The Vault was storing memories (memory lanterns) as well, either because they knew (the collapse was foretold iirc) or just because it is a vault and that's what they just generally do.
About then or a little bit later, the Elders realized their mistake but it was just.. too late. :( I think Vault and Forest were ones of the first to realize it, and Valley were last. The All Elders cutscene is actually them asking for forgiveness before sharing the last prophecy (or just a warning for us) of the King.
And now, we come into play! We are descendants of the Prince, and our mission is to restore light to the world. Fix the light cycle, so to speak. That's why we go through all realms and then to Eden and Orbit, and then be reborn. It's the migration of light, and we're there to guide and protect it.
I think that's all I know lol
dose anyone know anything about the red cristals becouse when i looked at their memoris the last one looked like the scean when the elders died
Thank you so much 😭
How "quick?"
Elders and spirits built the sky world
One secret elder, ruling Eden, destroyed the world
all the elders and spirits died
Skykids come to save the world
The king is the Eden Elder, I think they're practically the same
Yes, that is what happened, the red crystal is the same one in the final part of Eden, the Elders were probably trying to stop it from being destroyed, but they failed
but the cristal hurts them they ether tried to purify it or it was an atack from eden elder
I think it's the first one, the eden elder can be seen falling into it from the very top
Who say there is a king? Or an prince? I think all elders where the top highest.. Like politics system, or like an organisation of top elders. Like the g7 in RL. The so called King is Presented as star above the diamond or in temple of wasteland as decoration. I think it's the symbol of these organisation.
The question what I asking is why the forest elder built this crystals full with energy? Did they has used black magic to cover the energy in crystals? Animals was catches and using for getting g energy, for transport heavy boats. But after forest the realms has diamonds as Source of energy..so forest elder found a ways to take the energy from the animals and put it into stones. Later in wasteland... In abyss exactly.. Animals was cached there and it became a big fabric for making diamonds.
The grreding of the elders became bigger and they produce a giant diamond, but the water was infected with Toxic Garbage of production of those diamonds, so that the krill was born into this black water, you see the mother krill in abyss deep down. That's my thoughts.
I agree, there were 7 Elders, but I think some had more power than others due to the lands they inhabited. Eden Elder would be the most powerful because they got the important mountain area
But who is the eden elder? I just think that the realms neither attend the same time... I think it's a historie of the skyworld. Isle is the begin. The first Founders came.... Prarie. The first used of animals as transport... Forest the Progress in the industry has been laid... Valley was the The heyday of the epoch.. Economic miracle.... Wasteland.. Was the destroing of the Ecology System because of industries.. And vault is the last place, where all historical memories are. Like a bookstore or data system. Where we get all informations about what happend all the epoches.
We skykids, are here to restore the memories and bring "light" into the dark history. It's like irl we research the Inka people's or the Egyptians, what happens with them. So i think.
I like the theory that each realm represents an era of civilization, but there's one part that you're missing: the end of the sky kingdom, the death of the people, and the rebirth of a new world led by skykids. That part is Eden
Each realm has an Elder, and so does Eden. However, the eden elder is different, because they're dead. They only existed in the past
I had always believed the "prince" became the ruler (Eden elder) but there's a lot of suggestions in the artbook that the two were separate entities. I hope we meet both of them in TTE!
They are absolutely the same, the second child in Two Embers is Hopeful Steward
Is this channel just for talking about lore or can we share headcanons and stuff
I'm trying to find my people bc no one really cares about them
ohhhh so it's not really this way for a lore reason
Hey lore chat, does anyone have any idea of what this guy's doing? Because i originally thought theyq were doing laundry or smth 😭 but i heard from somewhere else that they are apparently sifting through light (which i have not the slightest meaning of)
i mean he's just rummaging through a box of light so it's up to interpretation lol. i like to think he helps set up the event displays, since that's what the building behind him usually has, so maybe his boxes hold the decorations/supplies
Even if there was an explicit lore reason, this likely still would have been the actual reason lore was designed around. But in case of Sky, the history of how the game was made kinda is the lore in a lot of ways
Some people have said that it's something to do with candle making. The spirit is the candle maker after all
chill theyre just mantas
they probably are just food
The new quest for duet has made me think of a lot of questions.
Same...
This is the first time to my knowledge that we've failed to revive a spirit
Hi lore chat!
Have you seen the memory in the 3rd Duet Quest?
An Eden shard fell straight onto the stage!
I wonder when this took place.
If it takes place towards the end (before darkness consumes all). This seems to imply that towards the end, a community was made anyway and took shelter in Aviary village before the storm eventually reached there.
I'm excited for TTE because it might explain more if the Steward is Dusk ember or not, and what happened in between the time Dusk Ember met the Dawn Ember and after that.
I was also wondering if Dusk Ember meet Dawn Ember, then return to make the Aviary Village?
Will you guide my way to the new seasonal area?
What is the relation between Duet and Abyss? Or is tgc trying to connect every season/season guides to one story?
My interpretation is the Duet grew up on that ship, and set off when they were ready
It looked to be before the boat was rendered useless
so, lore... cool
what was season of shattering trying to tell?
Same I was also wondering that, perhaps they are
Here's some pic from today quest. The duo duets came from Wasteland and visit or stay in aviary
Seems like darkstone was... Money back then? The duo looks like street music people
this is the Pointing Candlemaker from Isle, and usually the first spirit that a new Sky kid relives the memory of. the memory shows them teaching 2 other spirits about candles—what they are, and what they're used for. then they direct the spirits to the Isle Elder and temple, and a boat is waiting outside the cave, which the other 2 spirits fill with jars and candles, and then they all set off to the temple.
i assume they're sitting there crafting candles, since there's a little trio of them sitting next to them.
[vibrates as i ignore Duets spoilers bc i'm at work and haven't had a chance to play yet]
Oh I see, appreciate it haha
Probably before they had the opportunity to perform at the big stage
Not the crab attack 😭
Loki reminds of days of mischief
They (tgc) already spil it in mischief without we knew it
Here's what I think happened for the quest
-This happened right before the Shattering, and before Abyss
-The duet spirits grow up around Wasteland, and are parented by the Abyss spirits
-They learn how to play music together, using the ocean shells as a start
-Ceasing Commodore leads the 2 spirits into Aviary Village
-They're probably one of the last people to come into Aviary Village, as it's thriving and with lots of people
-They decide to set up a big concert for the entire village.
-This is the ambiguous part: they bow, and immediately a shard falls on them. I looked it up and it says you bow before and after a performance, so it could be either.
-There's also the shard, which is interesting for the timeline. How long was it between Eden erupting and the shard falling on Aviary? Was it instant, or did it take a while?
it can't have already been restored though, it's a memory of the past. stewie has their cape and everything in the memory, but perhaps them getting it in season of revival represented their rebirth as village leader. it would make more sense for the aviary to have flourished before, then destroyed during the destructions hundreds of years ago, and rebuilt by us in the present
You're right, by "restored", I mean thriving
I personally chose to see it as after the preformance happened, however the shard seems to have also killed the guide (you cant tell me that neck isnt broken) which also explains the guides grief after learning what happened because again, they were dead when the shard hit. I'd say it was one of the first shards to land aswell, probably not long after eden erupted for the first time after king used it. But we dont have much solid evidence for this soits all my personal standing on it.
But we do know how skykids 'see' the memories of spirits they relive now, too! Much more complex than what we usually see in game!
morbid, maybe but that shard was HUGE and the impact broke a strong piano
Hit by a shard and sent straight to the shadow realm 😔 unless all sprits trapped in husks are scattered in the void?
'scattered in the void' intresting concept actually but i think the void is maybe a neutral state of existance where time doesnt flow so being there is maybe like a coma for the spirits? their bodies long withered away but their soul trapped there without the light
i wonder why this spirit is stuck in the void like the ancient memories. maybe it's not a lore related reason, maybe they just wanted to do it for style points
us in lorechat will find a way to connect everything into lore one way or another..
it's our job
thats true..

Hello lore chat >:] I have a uh. Small tiny theory about how the silly memory and specifically the cellist
Lemme get the writing LMAO
So in the memory we watch the cellist basically grow as a musician, and have a love or a passion for music right ?
We see the cello break by the shard, and we watch them become stone or a statue while staring at the broken cello
How i take this, is that maybe the spirits don’t become stone because of the storm or all that. Maybe they become stone or such because something impactful happens [ either emotionally or physically ] that causes them to become statues.
The cellist witnessed and mourned for their cello, and with the negative feelings, may have turned to stone out of grief.
Fire is used to describe someone’s love or passion for something ! So maybe the flame / light that they have is not only- quite literally- their life essence, but a signifier that they’re passionate over something ?
Again this is some random theory I just cooked up and I’m sorry for the wall of text LMAO
Now that I read this maybe it is a mix of both the storm and the passion thing who knows
I shall now retreat back into lurking LMAO
My headcanon is that it is because they were struck by a shard directly
Why do you think the Commodore is gold? Is it because I ascended them personally?
That's actually a pretty good idea! And in that case it would mean that the Elders we save (which don't show any types of physical hurt, except ofc GW's one) got denuated of power cuz obviously the betrayal of the king must had been a big emotional schock, then the war, etc...
And it would explain as well why valley elders are so eager to get the flame, at a point they basically steal it from us : they are like... Denuated of sense? Since they wouldn't have desire and all that... And given how competitive valley is, with the 2 races and everything, ofc they'd want to have an objective.
Tbh, all what i said could be nonsense, but... ^=^/
Anyways, sorry for the wall of text x)
I consume all of the text walls
feed me more /silly
so they lose their light because they gave up i think, i agree here!!!! this could also be why everyone has like a specified talent ETC!
maybe its like a deeper look into why they cant be relit themselves? they devolve mentally and trap themselves and lose sight of what kept them present
I just want to know...
Is this new season event implying all crabs are secretly spirits that got affected by darkness??
Edit I just realized that no, this is not true I didn't pay attention to that last memory thing
crabs as far as I know are neutral creatures
but since the Dawn murals said "All are given breath by Starlight"
I'd like to assume lights is as we know it, but darkness often comes in solid form! Like stones, like our body, the bones in the graveyard, and the crab's shell!
I thought darkness and light coexist together instead of against each other. They simply cannot exist without the other
(Also Monk pfp!)
To explain further, the devs mentioned Void in the Skyfest concept art gallery
I think void is what happens when there's an imbalance of light and darkness (the shattering event)
the void is a neutral place where time seems to stop. I would think it's a state of nothingness?
Fascinating! On an unrelated note, That'd maybe explain why, after you free the skykids in the Eye of Eden, they fly right into the Eye of Eden. Maybe the whole goal of us Skykids is to return balance to the Eye then? After all, our whole reason for journeying is to return light to everything-The world, the spirits, the corrupted creatures, each other... Etc. It'd probably go to reason that we're also giving light to the Eye to bring it back from imbalance.
yeah, it's because you ascended them. they weren't gold for me, but the cackling cannoneer was
i would say that the game directly contradicts this theory considering we also turn to stone in eden when we lose our light, the equivalent of our life
True true, but also considering how ancestors and Sky kids are different [ I think ??? ] maybe how our light and their light works differently ? Maybe ?
they're our ancestors. besides being a lot bigger, incapable of flight and unable to relive other people's memories, it seems we're not that different from them really. also i hope i'm not coming across condescending LOL
Nah nah you’re fine LMAO
Well due to not being to do what you listed, maybe the passion thing could more lean to those due to. Again. no flight- however, with Sky kids, since we can fly and relive the memories, I would think the light has a more “life source” role !
It’s like how in our biology or in evolution a part gains a different purpose and so on so forth :0
Who knows HAHA— I just think it’s a super neat concept to think about and how it does match a bit with how the spirits might work LMAO
Of course I could be completely wrong but oh well HAHA
honestly sky is up for interpretation for a reason. and that reason is: you can do whatever you want forever
actually true LMAO
me personally, i just really like the idea that skykids are just slightly buffer ancestor spirits. maybe it's because i want to be connected to the spirits that way, considering we have to restore the kingdom and all that
now all im imagining is a physically buff sky kid and im laughing LMAOOO- but yeah i get that >:]
buff moth is real.
Guys I got an idea
Please give Duet Guide a happy ending, he didn't deserve to get Edened during that memory-
So basically I'm currently by the passage stone after sitting by the thing beside it, where you wait for night to fall and then the cozy thing starts. So once night falls and all the little flames fill the air, a lot of the upper half of the passage stone starts glowing a peculiar yellow
So i think that it along with a lot of the rest of the isle contains glass in large or small amounts
also hot take... the shard in Season of Duets 3rd Quest is a Black Shard, therefore can't be exploited for ascended candles since in the memory there are no Shard Crabs present meaning that its Canon
Scattered in the sand and the rock formations. In large concentration it reflects light, in this case the light of the bonfire
But that would also mean that there had to be something hot enough to turn the stuff into glass and that's a whole other rabbit hole, idk it feels awesome to say that the isle is a desert of sand and glass😎

Love the lore chat mini community

Guys are sky kids made of stone?
If you think about it we have been skidding everywhere barefooted and shoes are just a fashion suggestion.
Our 'corpses' sure look like stone
i guess duet guide ded after get hit
Honestly Im no expert but I think it's something like that. We're only shells, the real us is like the winged light children scattered around. The masks we put on give us senses. And our garments make up who we are. Maybe we're made of resistant and malleable glass. I feel like light wouldn't travel through stone very well.
It's been a while since we've had a trauma spirit, we deserve this
I think so, maybe something like clay, or maybe meteor material
Anyone here versed in japanese/shinto/buddhist mythology or other kinds that hold connections to Tears of the Kingdom, Laputa and Sky?
I see so many similarities but wonder whether the themes have a common source or are inspired by each other.
(For example, I was just trying to find the Sky equivalent for "golems" of the ancient civilization/out of ancient materials (TotK = constructs; Laputa = also ancient machinery) and thought "what if the crabs are golems" lol)
I guess they would be either the turrets or the krill
There's also the darkstone=zonaite=the crystals
What initially made me draw the connections between the three: the mineral/stone that lets things float and has a similar-ish color
Yes exactly lol
My opinion is that both TOTK and Sky had the same inspiration (castle in the sky) but I don't think they influenced each other
Yea I think that too
The turrets are a nice idea, I felt like krills or crabs are too alive
I wonder, when we do races, do we hear the cheers and stuff from dead people
My interpretation is that they are lingering memories
they are recorded sound effects
The valley elders doesn't have enough budget to hire a team of cheerleader everytime a skykid pass by
I got ONE question, what in the hell is that little hole for?? I'm assuming its for making a newborn (small, could carry in your hands) skykid but uhh idk 😭😭
It would be pretty cool if they were born out of light and then turned into clay or something
so i need clarification. pianist and cellist knew eachother since childhood, met with the abyss crew, traveled to the aviary village where they met the steward?
Yep that's pretty much it. I think they grew up together in Treasure Reef and their passion for music is specifically what motivates or enables them to travel to Aviary village
what hole?
They performed together
Quite successful
And then the apocalypse happened-

The new season quest has given me a few interesting lore thoughts... I was wondering if anyone wanted to hear them or if I'd just be decried as being silly and overthinking
it is against the rules to be negative towards other members, so noone will bully you for speaking your mind
Feed me your thoughts
does anyone here know why sky kids cover their necks?
please do 😼
What do you mean?
Btw why is there this weird little 3D amulet kinda thing inside skykids' bodies? I somehow got the camera in an angle to see something inside the model of a grey kid
Grandma speaks the crab sound?
Grandma mimics the last sound she hears, so if no Skykid makes a sound, then she speaks butterfly. 🤭
Ok thx
they wear turtlenecks all the time
i think it’s their heart
That’s where your red candle is stored :) if you go into the expressions menu and press the flame button while watching your skykid from the front, you can see them pull the candle out of their chest and the small amulet disappears :]
Skykids are basically vessels of light, so in my interpretation their soul is made of light while their body turns to something like clay/stone when they ‘die’, AKA get bonked by too many rocks in Eden
("too many" ranges from 1-3)
Terrible fashion sense
Do you mean that small, round circle on the center of the skykid’s chest? That’s where the candle is stored.
I really mean inside the model, not the oval light shape where the candle emerges from. The two little 3D symbols I mean are somewhere behind it, like a heart (not the shape). I'll see if I can get a picture
Oops I fell asleep-
okay so my Thoughts™️ are about several key things, mainly the new season quest-- just gonna crosspost this from a DM I sent someone when they asked, give me a minute
...bit of a wall incoming!
when you light the Cellist's husk in the quest, you enter her memory, except it's completely blank save for a projection of her partner's piano
you have to play the full-length song, taught to you over the previous quests, to jog her memory, at which point you learn her tale
the Pianist and the Cellist grew up together in another area of the game, and got into music quite early, studying and honing their craft with the crew there
eventually, after the Aviary Village was built, they left for there and performed for the few folks who called it their home, and to honor them a concert hall was built hosting a larger-scale performance
at the end of this performance, an Eden shard came crashing through the skylight, forcing an evacuation of the area and destroying both his piano and her Cello, if not outright killing them both
the memory concludes with her dropped onto her knees before her broken cello, at which point approaching her spirit form will physically transform her into the petrified husk you find her as
the area was then presumably sealed off and declared vitrified in the wake of this incident, at least until recently
the state in which you find the concert hall in is exactly as it was when it was evacuated, minus some extra decay and desolation
the smashed piano and cello center-stage, surrounded by an unmeltable (!!!) Eden shard and Dark Flora, along with several dozen converted crabs
there is one other major detail about the quest that I've only just now noticed
...the cellist doesn't come out
as far as I'm seeing here, she stays a Husk even after you attempt to revive her
she just refuses
this suggests to me that the Husks aren't necessarily Spirits who perished, not even as part of the original Shattering
but rather that they turn to Husks when they surrender to despair - and something similar happens to the player Skykids up on Eden
I am wondering if there has ever been season spirits from different seasons included in a season quest/memory before? Or is it a first with the abyss and revival spirits in the duet memory?
Here's a screenshot. The camera is looking inside a grey skid from their right diagonal front, you can see their cape behind them as well (and I think their left arm?). I haven't really checked but I think those small versions of The Symbol™ are behind the chest light thing.
Also the symbols might be inconsistent because last time I did this, the one at the back looked different, kinda like a mechanical wing (but that skykid was sitting so maybe that changed its appearance)
Can now confirm that sitting does fold these 3D symbols into weird shapes, but leaving them symmetrical
It's happened a few times
Hello! Apologies for the lengthy message!
|| So... after completing the 3rd Duets quest, my interpretation of the events comes down to:
The two musicians are childhood friends and they originally come from Treasure Reef. Now, was Treasure Reef a place that was initially full of life and natural resources until something happened? That something being either the infamous war or the Eden cataclysm. In my understanding, the spirits' war is what caused the Eden calamity, right? Anyway, "the something", whatever it is, caused it all to get flooded and only after that the Abyss spirits came and started to competitively gather resources under water.
Now... is my theory correct? Or was Treasure Reef fine and "livable" even when the Abyss spirits and the two Duets musicians were there?
Then we get the Enchantment, Rhythm and Revival guides (and some random spirits as well). Was Aviary even a canon realm "back in the day"? i.e. before the Eden cataclysm? Because the two musicians moved here and with the guides' help they opened the Concert Hall.
Is this why the backstage spirits (or whatever they are) have the Abyss and Revival symbols drawn near them? As in a representation of the musicians' journey? From "Beginnings" aka Treasure Reef to "Flourishing" aka Aviary?
Besides, I have always thought that the Enchantment spirits (i.e. the guide as well) were stranded in Forgotten Ark much much much earlier than the other seasons occured. As in hundreds or even thousands of years before (or however time is measured in Sky) due to the season's mystical, magical fairytale vibe. Did the Enchantment guide help the musicians before being stranded in Forgotten Ark?||
The timeline is extra ultra mega hyper confusing to me.
I'm aware that I got many things wrong, it's just my personal interpretation of the lore and if someone could help me understand the timeline that'd be great.
Thank you and I apologize once again for the lengthy message!
You mean amazing fashion sense. I love turtlenecks.
The timeline may seem odd, but I don't think the hundreds/thousands of years is accurate. I think that the rise and fall of the sky kingdom might only take place in 2 generations.
Enchantment also has some less ancient elements, such as the giant flying boat that probably was more modern.
The earliest point in the sky kingdom possible is "centuries ago [before the present day]), in the Switch Trailer. Here, we see the Dawn Ember and a very rudimentary sky kingdom.
But we know that this Dawn Ember became a ruler, and then destroyed the sky kingdom using their crystal. The time period is vague, but it couldn't have been that long, a few decades at most.
I also have a timeline document, although it's too long for here, dm me and I can show it to you
And another thing pointing to enchantment being later, the darkness already spread to wasteland by this time, it shows the crabs and storm and all
I actually had a suspicion that the treasure reef was for some reason abandoned, and the scientist magicians came after that! I don't know why the place was abandoned though
Heyo, has anybody on here discussed the existence of oobs in the sky kingdoms? Are they considered non-canon or could they maybe be a sort of backrooms sort of deal?
I think they're all noncanon, I don't think we should take glitched areas into account
I think we can deduce that a black shard fell in Aviary, because it had regular crabs and not the spiky red crabs
you know the "light" the sky kids have on their chest. Does all spirits/ancestors always had that too? or was it something only for the sky children?
The spirits don't have it, except for Hopeful Steward who has an extremely faint chest light
Maybe that means, hopeful steward was a skykid that couldn't ascend and became a spirit
or chose not to ascend so they could stick around to help revive their village someday
intrestingly enough i found this, im not sure if its cannon by any means
That's a very interesting theory
I think all the spirits have them in the promotional art, i'm not sure, i think it's a metaphorical thing because it doesn't appear in game
note i did pull it from the wiki
could be it doesent show in game to save resources or something like that by reusing the same assets but giving them outfits but not the model
Get the prophecy one, there’s an interesting detail on it.
this? can you elaborate, i dont get whats special about it
Where’s the Anubis ring?
omg true they lack their halo
could be this poster was made before the cosmetic was finalized but hmm
it does raise questions about like. what that ring is or what it means anyway
Could’ve been a reference or a smallish callback to the Eden Crown.
ooh true, that would track since the trials were what determined who would be the Ruler (i.e. who would wear that eden crown)
I think it might be set in the past, prophecy guide looks much shorter
He’s in the front… wait… hold on…
Was he the kid from the prophecy somehow?
it could just be it took time for him to become the prophecy guide and so he hasnt earned his halo yet
How do you earn that halo though…
study the trials? i dunno
Still wish the halo was a toggle…
season of duets has taught me that the shattered pieces of the crystal was always happening ever since it fractured, and these two just got very unlucky
Hey lore chat, does anyone know the story behind the light seekers? Because I'm really lost
Basically they're light collectors , it's in their name. There isn't much abt them, but it's been theorized that they're harvesting lights because they're fading? It's related to how in the memory of the Piggyback spirit, we can see at the end of the tunnel their company starts to get corrupted by dark plants while a boat with 3 light orbs is there, plus there's Crab call spirit memory of finding a dead soldier at the end. It's really vague that even I can't tell much
They only really dedicate to the lore when enchantment comes. It's revealed that lightseekers gave light to the (supposedly) enchantment group to create fireworks n stuff on the murals in forgotten ark. So it's believed that lightseekers gave light as a way for the enchantment crew to embellish magic to it, thus creating those colorful orbs from enchantment.
Those orbs are theorized to be factors of life made into reality, like how where they are reflects what factors they are. Or another theory is that the enchantment crews worked with lightseekers on a mission to restore nature. The colorful orbs have been seen to be able to grow grass, purify dark water,... So it feels like an environmental project
Lastly, lightseekers seems to have similarities with assembly crews, from masks to cosmetics ( compare scolding student cape with lightseekers cape ) to even origin place ( assembly is from forest, lightseekers isn't shown but is heavily rain themed like umbrellas so they're likely to be from forest as well ). Some people theorized assembly is lightseekers child/apprentice? But that's about it
Something I've noticed is the red orb being in 2 locations that have similarity
Both areas have a broken ship and a krill
Is it intentional? Since the orb being in two places is already suspicious... Or maybe tgc just wanted the first quest orb to be near you ig
I think the red orb represents darkness
[P. 1] reading back from the last time i checked this chat (i'm at work again lol), @ruby meteor makes a very good point. the Cellist only became a husk, the deceased form of the Ancestors and also Sky kids (whose half-light bodies facilitates darkstone growth), after their cello was destroyed by the Shard, essentially destroying her passion, what her life revolved around. the husk is the hardened remains of the Ancestor's body after the light has left it, just like our bodies when we give all our light away in Eden.
like this, the light is our heart/soul, and although the Ancestors weren't like us in that they couldn't fly and couldn't exchange light like we can, they still have that light. if not all of them became husks because of the Shattering, then falling to despair makes sense—despair snuffs out their light to the meekest ember. to me, that's why the spirits are simply husk orbs when we find them, surrounded by the silhouette their soul takes shape as. we light the husk orb, reignite the lingering ember, and suddenly get to see a point in their life that, while not ending in their despair, may relate to how they fell to despair.
[P. 2] if any of yall have seen Puella Magi Madoka Magica, ||when a Puella Magi's soul gem is tainted fully black and there's no Grief Seed to absorb the taint, they become Witches through the realization that they're going to die/become an abomination, usually by ironic downfall due to whatever wish they made that created their soul gem. they fall to despair, and their soul mutates into another shape.|| <-- extremely crucial spoilers if you haven't watched the series.
related, i think Ancestor Guides retain their shape and vague sentience because even though despair won out in the end, they fought against it, or maybe they had no control over exactly what petrified them into husks.
additionally interesting is how the Cellist's husk looks before it petrifies—a similar luminosity and texture to the child we meet after falling in Eden, that returns us to our former selves. us lighting their husk orb is like us hugging that child, reviving their soul and freeing it (though in our case, we're freeing ourselves).
do any of y'all have eden elder headcanons? i'm trying to make a desing for him but i don't know much about him
A lot more will come with two embers
Why only one turtle, where are it's bros and sissy's, by sanctuary
I know these murals are about the light cycle (given all the mantas and such) but,,, what are these people holding?
eyy! appreciate that you took the time to read my musings, I'm honored someone got something out of that
also interesting analogy to Puella Magi; didn't think to draw THAT line but it tracks!
and yeah, I think the Guides are a bit more resistant to husking because they played largely pivotal leader roles within the Kingdom, they're easier to remind who they are
a theater group leader
is going to be much easier to identify and recall that some rando who nearly bapped someone on the head with a tree
"What do you remember?"
"I remember… a stage. A few, loyal fellows - if odd. A stagehand. A musician; a playwright, the group had… **someone** leading them… keeping them together, I- oh wait that's me"
gosh I love this writing sm

here's another take I have: I'm pretty convinced that the cellist refuses to come out of her Husk because, uh, well, reliving her memory and everything that went wrong - what with y'know an eden shard smashing her entire life's ambition to literal pieces - may have been a tad too traumatic
When reliving spirits we can only view snippets of their long lost memories, but then the cellist memory goes way back from when they're a child, why's that?
Is it related to their more traumatizing memories?
Potentially - most of the other Spirits have rather innocent memories, or at least not ones that are quite so impactful
Even the Fainting Knight in the Wasteland seems to get their bearings once they remember who they were after their memory is relived, but the Cellist is probably too stuck in her own head to be willing to confront things - and that's perfectly okay, considering she got smashed by an Eden shard after her major performance. Think she needs time.
Reminds me of
Hi lore chat just gonna peep in the stuff here
I made soup for you all while I browse 🍲
Also the scene where ||Howls directly eat the star then it became his soul/heart||
I love this
I think they're umbrellas, maybe they're supposed to represent the Lightseekers
I predict that Two Embers will make us cry
I know there's a light in Skykid bodies, and it becomes the light of the candles we equip.
seems like umbrellas and hats, like the kind you would use to protect your light from the rain? but that's just a guess since I haven't actually seen this mural in a while
it looks like umbrellas and hats, especially the ones from season of lightseekers, where the umbrella and hats have similar designs
Since only lightseekers have those hats and umbrellas, plus the imagery of them capturing the light, I believe it's heavily referring to them
ohh that makes a lot of sense, i couldnt tell what they were doing before either haha, thank you all!!
is there any sort of master doc to read and learn about the lore?
Here's an introductory one
A small detail I noticed abt the owl twins is that between them, rhythm guide and their crew has a more purple tone, fancier cosmetics, even having their own light bird carrier, while performances is much goofier, hand-made, cheapish if you can say so
Plus purple is usually reserved for royalty since it's a rare colour
So it seems like one actually got into showbiz while the other stayed with amateur drama show
It illustrated the rankings in Sky kingdom society in a way
Also a fun fact I noticed is while rhythm is primarily purple/darker toned, dream is primarily red/lighter toned, performance was a mix of them. Neat.
thanks!!
Does anyone know the significance of the cave in Isle of Dawn?
The one locked behind a spirit gate w/ the ship and light orbs at the end of it?
It feels kinda out of place or important
My guess it’s a mural of sorts.
Are all seasons connected to the main sky story? I mean, little prince & seasons of nine colored deer. It would be interesting to see why krill does not do anything to the little prince. Where does the all-season spirit take place, possibly after Eden, but any ideas ???
There’s a debate on whether collab seasons are cannon or not.
This might interest you:

"However, some season stories are more like spinoffs rather than things that tie directly into the main overarching storyline. While the dreams skater might not have tied into the downfall of the kingdom, there's still merit in fleshing out the lives of all the characters who lived in the kingdom in the past!"
Oh makes sense 🧐
I think the seasonal spirits take place at different times, depending on the season. Some of them are very early on, maybe in the first era of the kingdom, but some show the darkness and destruction
In my opinion, the collabs do relate to Sky's story. They show off Sky's themes and change the original story to fit better
Season of Duets Guide:
🪙 Taught lessons for a while to help earn money
🔍 Has learned to tell when someone's exaggerating
😵💫 Completely blanked in their 1st recital, had to restart their song twice
🎹 Teaching themselves how to play piano while sitting backwards
Season’s 2nd Spirit, the Compassionate Cellist:
💭 Invented a code that uses whistling songs
🎶Loves to learn sea shanties
🪟 If they see a spider trapped indoors, they'll help it get back outside
👀Sometimes they like busking more than playing onstage, to tell the truth
(tell me if i should delete this :) )
They have a prosthetic arm?
I saw that video too
Look, their arm is cut off
in the second image? i think duet guide is just holding their arm behind their back, but idk i havent paid that close attention to how they look in-game
Yeah it’s just duet guide holding their arm behind their back
I don't know how much of a coincidence this is, but the blue cape looks a lot like the flight symbol:
Season of duet related to shards?
“So many story discussions happened about the fate of this realm, particularly how it became the ground zero location for the cataclysmic event. The grand fortress and machinery were built closest to the sky to mine the soul migration. Drawing from the soul cycle so inhumanely was the Ruler's final display of hubris. We deliberated how the Ruler could be shown, if at all.
We explored how altruism would manifest between you and other players. Was it possible you would sacrifice yourself for others? We included calcified children reaching up the mountain to hint at their prior attempts and how the cycle continues.”
I’m in the process of making lore videos based partially on the Art of Sky book that I will upload in the near future. I hope to shed more light on the lore intended by the developers.
Where?
Is my above response what you were looking for or did you want to see more of those pages?
hey lorechat, i got a question: why don't the Cerimonial Worshipper and the Memory whisperer have statues, unlike all other spirits? And I don't just mean the transparent husks, but rather, a complete lack of calcification
Whale whisperer also doesn't have statues, it was acquired when you went close to the whale skeleton in Hidden Forest after you burn away the dark plants
There’s also the Aurora seasonal spirits, who seem to have not even died at all…
I wonder if they appear after or before you go to Eden for the first time
Not died? Wdym
I remember being able to interact with them before Eden
It seems that the newer guides have husks, but the older guides don't. Idk, maybe their husks were freed offscreen or something?
I think all the spirits are dead, including these ones, since they have the bluish skin
Hey lore chat! I have potential food for thought today
In light of reliving the cellist memories, I noticed yesterday a spirit is right next to one of the shards
Did they get hit by it I wonder 🤔
It looks like they just missed by a hair
The game calls all the guides “ancestor spirits” and we are shown the seed of hope dying-
I think the AURORA season lore was her bringing back the spirits to tell their stories one final time. Since, in the concert, you get to see the spirits’ entire stories. And that’s why the concert was kind of a one-time-thing without special events (like the anniversary) or the IAP.
I think all the ancestors are just wanting to share their stories again. And the stories of the ones they cared for.
the spirit has been there before the shard was ever created, it’s just a coincidence that it spawns right there, unless the shard was placed there on purpose
Well im speaking in silly hypotheticals, it would be interesting if that were the case
There's some cool information on what darkwater is, and why the rain depleats our light too, I forget the page number but I took a picture of it
Keen-eyed players will also spot clues of Light Creatures impacted by this change. There are giant creature bones sunken in the mud.
The unique presentation of the realm's temple presented a jarring concept of laborers industrializing a place of worship. The temple was initially built to honor the light through different rituals in our backstory. Then the Elders converted it into a factory to engineer light reserves. We imagined that Dark Water was a byproduct and pollutant from engineering and industrialization.
I seem to also remember there was a section about how valley turned their holy site into an arena, and on closer inspection that there was corruption there, as light / souls were getting distracted there.
And a section on prairie that the elder saw the coming darkness, though didn't understand it, and so spent their time hoarding light in pots at their temple instead of letting it flow, so causing more darkness in their realm.
Ofc these are all dev designs, so are what inspired the game rather than what's actually in it, but they don't seem like a massive leap in logic to what we've already theorised.
So when I asked on a livestream if the pipes have lore relevance, this is probably hinted as the answer, yes, they carried the waste of the industrialisation into wasteland rather than letting it form as rain, as in forest, which is possibly why wasteland has sludge darkwater and no rain, but forests rivers are still pure and flowing water, where the rain is actually corrupted from the temple turned factory instead.
Another interesting point I picked up on was that during ascention we go through "the Void"
Which I read in 2 ways
- We literally go into a Void room for the hug
- The void could be space, I. E. The section between the realms and The Light (orbit)
Megabird used to be a Megatree, and still has that look of a tree with branches because it's made up of all of the souls interconnected.
I just saw someone pointing this out: Is the megabird inspired on the Great Attractor? It looks really similar to it
It also looks similar to the laniakea supercluster
#lore-discussion-spoilers message
Yup. I wonder if they took inspiration from it, or if its just a coincidence
That image appears to have existed in 2014 from a quick search, so plenty of time for a designer to be inspired by it, but one of the earliest images is the 2012 sketch by Jenova Chen of a bird surrounding the world, so it could well have been inspired coincidence, it started as a bird, and turned to look more like the thing we know as the Megabird as it was inspired by that laniakea image
By the way, I've a question : Do y'all think that the ISS in office is canon? Cuz in that case there'd be 2 spaces : the "orbit ascension" one and the "IRL-ish one"
+When we're in ISS we don't/can't see the orbit route, so maybe it's more like... A spiritual ascend, not a physical one?
But in that case, what would really be the wax/candles? Because while being in a spiritual/not physical body if this theory is right, we get the candles from the spirits we saved...
The most fascinating part about Sky is how death is not the end
Very far from it
A lot of people go through rebirth, and even if they don't, their existence as spirits can be sustained
Neither the ISS nor office is canon
Ok thanks
Greetings lore masters!
I'd love to learn about children of light for art purposes. Specifically, what material are they made of? Are there any images of them without masks? Do they have any light spots on the body beside the flame in their chests?
Thank you in advance~
Hi hi
Skykids (Children of the Light) have a few things that have been explored and debated in the lorechat. Though take into account that as far as I know, there are not a lot of canon lore about them that have been outright confirmed in the game.
There seems to be some interesting tidbits yet to be seen in the upcoming Two Embers animation.
What are skykids made of?
- That is an interesting question of which I have heard (and theorised at times) are made of clay, stone, or even some material that has to be fire proof.
- I would be surprised if skykids were made of flesh. Because human (or even ancestor flesh as far as I know) are not fire proof. And are not known to make a distinct PING sound when crashing into a hard surface. Skykids also take severe knocks and hits from rocks with minimal damage (save from loss of light).
Faces and Masks
- There are plenty of debates on why ancestors and skykids wear masks. Some theorise it has to do with their profession, others suggest it is part of their identity, and some suggest it is about what they represent in the lore.
- There has been discussions on what skykids look like without their masks. And while the game shows them closing their eyes; which lead to speculations of them being blind and needing the masks to see. Which I dont agree on, but its worth mentioning to explore these ideas. It is important to point out that skykids do have eyes. Eyes that they can blink, close while asleep, and even emote with.
Light spots on skykids
- As far as I know, skykids show their light in only their eyes and chests. The chest light can be removed and carried on a candle by skykids. Which implies this chest light is unique from their chests lights. It is not known whether a skykid's eyes would go out if the skykids' light goes out (seeing how their eyes are always closed in the game). Though I would wager they do, and this chest light can be seen as their 'life essence' (in my opinion).
Hope this helps

Oh hush, bot.
I swear it's getting more and more annoying XD genchat confirms
reading you message now
thank you already for reacting btw
Let's also not forget the forehead gem that most masks have as well, especially default one.
Some masks have one, not all do though. And it is not part of the skykid's face.
It is interesting how by default we do have s forehead gem on our mask, kind of drawing parallels with the Elders, who also have a forehead gem with their headgears.
From what I understand they are pure essense of light controlling some sort of a body and, yeah, it's likely some sort of reinforced porceline material or something similar to it (it's not flesh).
I don't see any doll-like joints on their bodies, although maybe they should be present?
I also think they are hollow inside, filled with light and hot air, making them very light weight.
Last question is their height. I've seen office area, which made me think default col size is about 60cm or so.
Oh, I didn't understand your point about "eyes always closed". I see them blinking just fine and closing eyes, it's just theireyeballs are glowing or iris is glowing brightly, but it represented in the game in a simplified form.
One thing which reinforce the idea of them being hollow both physically and metaphorically is lack of cols emotions at the start of their journey. They learn from spirits, imitating their emotions rather than starting with their own.
Let me know expert's opinion on this.
I recall a few users here who worked out their height and even weight.
One of them are no longer active in this server unfortunately.

When you have skykids in the game go maskless. Their character model shows them with their eyes always closed.
Even when you clip into their heads while wearing masks. Their eyes (or eye lashes) are still shown closed.
That said, it is uncertain what a skykid's face truly looks like (with eyes open).
Ah, I see the idea behind eyes. Also, it's okay if there are no actual official pictures of col without masks, I'm mostly checking with lore masters to avoid any critical mistakes in the drawings.
Thank you for your time and information ❤️
There have been concept art found online of early skykid character designs.
TGC explored ideas of them being golems, human children (with human skin tones), and even some form of spirit.
For any deep sky lore enthusiasts, genuine question
Do you think there's any specific symbol that tells a Skykid to ascend?
Rather then just following the entire path through the kingdom and just going up?
Ex. Like the Diamond in Eden is sort of the symbol to ascend for me, but I need some opinions on what else could be the symbol of ascension,,
I'd say its either the temples that guide us to Eden, in the game is does state that the elders purpose was to guide people to the stars so in that sense I think that makes sense.
But I'd also say it could just be a feeling, like from a player perspective we have to want to ascend to go through Eden otherwise we wouldn't. Although new players are quite literally pointed in the direction on their first attempt. (My experience as a pre-revival moth had only curiosity to guide me through Eden on my first attempt)
we are conditioned to follow the light.
I was also going to mention the literal symbol we see that guides us to the next area lol but you beat me to it. Just before r I finished my edit
lol ye. I was looking for that particular symbol. But figure this rendition seen painting on the closet works just as fine.
I'd chalk it up as the skykids drawing that symbol for themselves and others to know what it looks like.
Actually its slightly different
I never said that skykids were accurate XD
Thank you for this image
I'm head canoning that haha
Actually it could be shorthand. If the symbol is literally there guiding us than it makes sense for sky kids to write it down and eventually give it a shorthand which resembles the original symbol but not accurately
Possibly.
I like to think that the symbol has many meanings to the skykids and the player in the game.
- It represents the Light with the ray lines.
- It has a diamond shape but its more organic than the crystals. Making it look more like a star.
- It has a dot/circle which could be the orb/mote we collect (As in, the winged light. I can give more context if need be).
And with these elements combined, we have The Light that is like the skykids.
- The light we carry with us.
- The knowledge and body that resembles the crystal power dependant Ancestors.
- And the motes of winged light we have collected to gain more power.
It foreshadows the end, but also represents the beginning.
Prophecy
.
wait y’all. just had an epiphany that may not mean anything given the Cackling Canoneer’s mask is missing the bit but.
recently, I was thinking about why it is that the masks of sky kids glow, and I had recently thought that the diamond featured on pretty much every mask’s forehead part reminded me of darkstone. I don’t really have any pictures to share as an example, but when you look up close at the cackling cannoneers mask, it almost looks like the glowing eyes are a little detached from the face.
What I’m saying is, I wonder if masks eyepieces glow because there’s a dark stone embedded in the forehead and maybe it helps the wearer see? At least when it comes to sky kids, because maskless, our eyes are closed.
To the first one: Imo, they might be pure light "solidified". They are stars, or described as one some times
hi lore chat! i have a question
what is the order of each of the seasons in the world of sky, like which one came first and which is the most “recent” season lore-wise?
it’s just something i’ve been curious about for a while
I have a full timeline of every season, but it's too long for here, can I dm it to you?
yes ofc!
Hi everyone! I am relatively new to the game and have seen people talking about a tournament and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it was ❤️
Is there a God is sky?
Technically, known as "Megabird".
Money confirmed 🤑
I wonder what they used as currency. Did they use candles? Dark stones?
#questions-and-help can help you
ooooh, oki oki, thank you. Sorry for asking in the wrong chat.
That looks like dark stone to me
(Also shoutout to @slate pawn for the picture, sorry for using it without asking 😔)
They’re the scavengers from the abyss season and they pretty much were collecting this stuff all the time. So if they were collecting dark stone, it’s most likely dark stone.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking
I still find it interesting this memory is buried in the limbo. The fact that this is probably one of the few spirits who was so closely in proximity to an Eden shard and it required additional effort to apparently fix their petrified statue is interesting.
Dark stone being currency would make sense, as the glowing object that the Star Collector
(formerly Shrewd Merchant) was collecting looked like large, carved/molded chunks of dark stone.
And, most merchant ships we see are transporting dark stone batteries.
Nah NP at all
Although Megabird is a good answer for the God of Sky, Megabird isn't really what I would call a god.
"The Megabird is the collective unconscious of everything in the universe, and its body is composed of the bonds."
~The Art of Sky, p. 143
Universe?
I thought it was just the solar system! WOW!
To me Aurora feels like the voice of the megabird
however people would question her canonity because of the collab
A mineral found in many places (like prairie peaks and treasure reef) that can be refined, and then charged with light to act as a battery. You can see it in two-player doors and such. It was used by the Ancestor Spirits to give them immense technology and wealth, but it also led to their downfall
Oh they were DEFINITELY in some sort of resistance fighters alliance or something. I wonder if they will appear in the two embers stories...
It's strange to think of money existing in the beautiful world of Sky but there it is... another lil snippet of information about the old world. If there was money, it would hint at there being a poverty class as well as wealthy one.
I agree, that seems extremely specific and they were in the hub of the conflict
oh are those the stones in jolly geologist's cave?
It was probably in other places as well (Tearful Light Miner was probably trying to mine for it)
Forest might have been a hub of darkstone activities before it ran out, such as Blushing Prospector, the Passage quest with all the mining tools, and the Forest Elder
So sorry to interrupt and also this is really silly, but remember when
almost hits
in their cutscene, and
dodges just perfectly? I always thought this was out of malice or something along the lines of "I can hit my brother if that means I get the light"
But I just read up on monocular vision (aka having only one eye) and what a loss of depth perception actually means,, turns out they might just not be that good at distinguishing their bro from the fire (and the bat from the fire and
) because they have the same color and they overlap from
's POV. (You can see that in this shot right here while they charge.) Like this wasn't malice, it was bad aim all along
Idk maybe that's common knowledge, I was an edgy teen when I first saw the Valley Elders so I always had the edgiest interpretation
The next logical step is checking the Valley temple for accessibility of course. The gold lining is not only fancy but probably helped them see the ledges as it had high contrast to the dark bricks, which you can see on the edges of elevations, these "windows" for the graves (including the entrance to the corridor) and outlining the stairs. My only counterpoint to this is that the individual stairs themselves and the "exit" of the corridor don't have this gold lining, and the red carpet at the entrance of the temple in the colosseum probably makes things worse.
So these things were probably just fancy. But still, probably helped them not trip as a side effect.
I also just noticed in their cutscene that the ledges are actually marked in the colosseum (yes I'm in the floor
) and they only barely step over that line (by that I mean, a single toe is on the line).
They usually make a jump to cross that line instead of just running over it. Even in the end,
does a little jump while crossing the line instead of running, but maybe that's just because they wanted to reach the light.
I also don't know how practical jumping actually is when you can't precisely see a ledge, maybe it was purely theatrical or or they thought it helped catch the light
I might be reading into this too much
Yes, what we see in Prairie Peaks is the darkstone before it had been mined and refined. Prairie Peaks is a pristine landscape that was mostly untouched before the cataclysmic event. The ancestor sprints there are ones you might find in a national park. One brave ranger, 2 scientists, and a monk seeking solace.
quick q, i've been seeing everywhere that the player constellation is supposed to be the same as the eden/alef crown constellation, but when i try to check, mine just looks like a "W", and instead of a crown, it shows something that looks similar to teth?
look below the diamond. there's a faint crown shape
yall do we know yet why the abyss related stuff keeps popping up yet? like the abyss emblem in the spirit/mannequin area of the music hall, all of the abyss spirits appearing in the duets quest, and the abyss guide randomly appearing at the aviary fireworks festival when not being in any of the aviary quest. other than just them obviously being travelers, i don't quite know the importance of it.
i have theorized before that the abyss guide is special somehow since the abyss quests are likely us reliving the abyss guide's memories which if that is true it means the abyss guide can melt darkness (the last abyss quest) which as far as im aware none of the other spirits can do but idrk
I think the duets spirits were from wasteland, and travelled to Aviary long ago to meet the steward and setup the concert hall, so were either members of the Abyss crew, or travelled to Aviary with them.
I love seeing these crossover season spirits, and really hope the relationship 2.0 quests expands that a bit more too.
The decor of the concert hall does also have the feel of the underwater caves in Treasure Reef, so it may be their home or somewhere they are fond of.
It was changed years ago
Used to be the Eden crown but they changed the constellations to be cleaner
I think it's because the Duets spirits had a special relationship with the Abyss spirits, either they were employed or raised by them. Maybe that's why they're so linked
appears We know that there is definitely some affiliation between the Duets spirits and Abyss spirits while also knowing that something tragic happened that left one of the Duets spirits super closed off
Wonder what this is on vault elder
Ppl think it's language but also we can't translate it currently 😭
Looks more confusing that Minecrafts enchanting table language
Here is the view from Orbit.
Woaah
is it possible to dm it to me too?
doesn't it kinda look similar to journey's symbols?
its similar but looking at the symbols (and just remembering them) , none of them match up, well, some of them are pretty close but not exact afaik
Is there a lore reason the Hopeful Steward is sitting again? I haven’t seen them do that since I went to Eden. I imagine it’s something to do with the Two Embers, but now I’m worried about them again.
Standing all the time gets exhausting
It’s easier to hug them when they’re standing though

I am hardcore manifesting a BOTW type game from TGC that uses the elder concepts from the art book. The idea of having these monster type guardians guarding the temples was such a dope idea and would work so well in a BOTW type game
I think Sky takes many concepts from BOTW already, but I see your idea. I think Two Embers might scratch that itch
here is my attempt at assigning each unique symbol a letter. wonder if it could be put into some sort of cypher solver. i dont think the three solid lines represent any letter and there are some missing spaces to the right, however.
its weirdly pretty consistent with multiples of each letter until the random last few
Why would the three solid lines not represent a letter? If this is supposed to be a cipher, I would assume it is read in columns, not in rows. And then the two three-line symbols would be part of the center word.
I also considered the cipher idea, but yeah, the rightmost symbols are kind of falling out of line.
I get shes elder of knowledge but i never thought shed wanna go that far in proving it XD
So that WL in today's Shattering Memory
Resh and Alef?
I hope. The monster type guardians from the art of sky book is just too cool to not use.
I mean considering how they have that weird walking stick like stone creature in the Office space, they could reuse that concept but for something greater
frest elder
if it okay wit you, can I get dat please
Mind sharing it

dm to me too please! 🙏
wow these are looking cool!
I don't know if this belongs here, but in ffxiv, and some past games one of the antagonists are called ascians
they wear masks and flowy robes(and capes) like sky children
i think it would be cool if they had a cross over/if someone did some cross over themed art
the closest to ascian stuff is from the season of shattering, their main motif colours are shadowy purples, blacks, and blues, and the sigils on their mask are either red, white, or black
Does anyone have the picture of the Art Book page where it mentions Bhutan?
Why spirits wear masks ?
Because they can/ it's in their culture
Guys, someone knows/remember what started the war?
I think it was due to debates over the treatment of light and the use of technology
Ooh, okay, thank you
omg i didnt even realize how much lore this game actually had ive been playing for so long but didnt stop to think about all of the lore
What was your method for assigning these letters?
Why does Darkness give wax
I literally just went shape by shape and went down the alphabet giving every unique shape it’s own letter
Shattering goes hard (so much went wrong bruh)
I've probably asked this question here many times, but I keep forgetting,
what's the tallest a sky kid can be?
I think the max height is somewhere around a meter
I was going to shout short, then I remembered that's tall for a kid.
Is it confirmed that Sky kids are artificial beings. I ask this because of the crystals that sprout from our bodies when devoid of light being similar to the dark crystals found throughout the world.
The Art of Sky Gallery does have an image that says that the Ruler sacrificed himself for the new generation of Children of Light to be born, thus I don´t think they´re artificial ...
... but at the same time they aren´t exactly biological either.
Stars be weird like that. 🤭 At least in my headcanon, the Skykids are literally walking stars whose physical bodies that contain the starlight/starfire are made of rock.
What would be the difference between natural and artificial in this world?
I guess origin point? I assumed that most spirits descended from the City in the Sky, and that Sky Kids were created outside of that city.
In another world, it is like a new strand of humanity being born parallel to ours. Maybe not exactly from us, but it is their own legacy.
I think natural might refere to a process of the implication of a mother to being born with a organic body that needs some things to stay alive and "artificial" in this case would be being created and not grow like most of the living things besides having a not organic body and with little needs (like breathing apparently lol)
I think the Orbit area is the origin point for both the spirits and skykids, but I do agree with the parallel thing. Skykids are similar, but not the same
Guys, quick question I’m just curious…. Is the home island an actual part of Sky world? You can’t see Eden from there besides the portal and stuff but there’s also the spirit by the shop boat and travelling spirits?(Btw I don’t know anything about Sky lore
)
It is a part of the Sky world. I like it, not every area has to have some grand significance to the Sky world
(and, you can't see Eden from everywhere)
An interesting theory I've heard is the farther you go from Eden, the more normal time gets
Ohh that’s cool!
Yeah I’m realizing you can’t see eden in a lot of places lol.. ty!!
I wanted to share what I noticed with dawn ember's mask! This may look like ears but you can see their ears behind the mask. As far as I can see in the trailer none of the other kids have a mask with these points. Very familiar
I made a tumblr post where I yapped more but this is a short and sweet observation
I can send a photo, but I’m away from home right now. I can send something on Wednesday before I start my Twitch stream.
Sooo people of the lore channel
I need your assistance
So in game, realms are usually seen stuck in one time of day
So I just assumed they cannot change their time of day compared to locations like aviary village and prairie peaks
If that’s the case what the heck happens in season of passage trials or realms that don’t match the time of day theme of their realm
So if that’s what happens is there any explanation to how time works in the world of sky?
Because I genuinely want to know
Honestly imo it’s just game mechanics
I personally think the time of day in the realms as you journey along the sky kingdom is basically like the passage of time as a moth goes through all the realms.
Like a moth is born and then starts in isle and time passes as they journey through the realms such as it becoming day, sunset, dusk, and night time.
Just my two cents though
I had a theory that the use of darkstone caused time to sort of "halt", as the only places we see time progress, though at different speed, have no darkstone technology in them.
It's also representative of the cycles of everything ingame, that one being the cycle of the day progressing between each realm, as we also see life stages, and civilization growth between realms.
As far as "non time" places, such as the trials, and the shattering memories, I believe they exist in "The Void" a place between Darkness and Light, that we get to when we lose all our winged lights, but can also access by meditating in certain places.
If you look at concept art a lot of the realms are just labelled after a time of day. Some still are. It's to tie into the themes of birth + death + rebirth. As we progress from dawn to dusk linearly in theory. I'm pretty sure in the actual universe they do just have regular day cycles
I don't think it's a gameplay mechanic, but rather a lore fact. It's not a coincidence that the further you get from Eden, the more normal the time cycle.
Eden, Vault, Wasteland, Valley: All locked in their time zones
Forest, Prairie, Isle: Can turn into night by Passage trial
Sanctuary Islands: Has regular sunsets
Prairie Peaks: Has a shortened day/night cycle
Aviary Village: Has a shortened day/night cycle
Home: Has a regular day/night cycle
I think the destruction at Eden was so powerful that it basically warped time and partially froze it
Could it explain locations like crescent oasis? Or treasure cove?
They seem oddly well lit for their timezone
Are they lit by Eden’s light?
Or maybe the distortion of time was so bad that it entirely turns locations into the wrong time zones they’re supposed to be?
Treasure Reef is still night, I think
Like a late foggy evening
Crescent Oasis really isn't part of Vault of Knowledge, it's probably its own area far away from Eden
can sky kids swim in lava? seeing as, you know, they can withstand fire/basically live on that
That is an excellent question.
I suppose the only canon way of knowing is when TGC lets us have volcanoes in the game, lol.
On a serious note, I can imagine skykids could either overheat, overcharge or become super charged.
I can imagine people could either reason that skykids would benefit from super hot melted rock. And others can reason that it can harm skykids.
the sky kids can walk of fire or campfires right? if they are made of light the thing who give light are like food for them, the lava it's good for them i thing, maybe better than the water
That is true with light from fires can charge skykids.
Though the amount of light (or power) from a candle light, a flame, or a campfire are not the same as molten rock.
Bear in mind, if skykids were made of actual rock as some folks theorised (myself included), I would wager that lava might be a bit too hot for a small rock golem with clothing and capes made of cloth.
Well i think they are make more of magical or holy infused materials, i don't think they can die by lava because they are sacred creatures, maybe if the lava is infused with darkness, that can damage the skykids, but the normal lava it's just other medium of the light to give power, maybe can be more difficult than the water to swim or make they infinite flying because give more light than the clouds to fly and that do the sky kids never touch the lava because the levels of light who the lava give it's to much to touch the lava making them fly at eternal (sorry my bad english but i speak spanish)
(you are ok
)
On the one hand, lava is a big source of light.
On the other hand, it could be too much light for skykids the handle.
The idea of darkness infused lava is interesting, but also a contradiction (two things that wont make sense together)
Darkness in sky is a source of power that drains light. Meaning it is something that is without light (like the void).
Lava on its own is a very big source of light with the amount of heat and energy it gives off.
My best guess (as my opinion) why we dont have lava in Sky is because TGC might not know how to include lava as a game mechanic.
That, or they did not have a reason to add it yet. Since they have a lot of other things to work on.
No matter what, lava is a fun theory to explore.
By the way, fun fact.
We learned from Days of Nature that lightning can charge up skykids instantly. lol
So, we now know that electricity is something that is related to Light.
Well the void can work as a prism, if i use Destiny as base, and the void walkers they see the void as a prism, and the light have so much more specters than the visible light, idk if the void it's the same of the darkness here or just a prism like that game to can be use to have other type of light
I like explore sure, and learn lore of the worlds, i'm thinking on me as a monk player or ascetic skykid who think on his skykid as a monk, the lore can be a little thing who work as other step to know the true dao of the light on this curious world
The skykids can hunt and cook krills? how tasted the krills? are like some myths of the dragons? i know some recipes of dragons cooked because i like videos about mythology and exist some more recipes to cook dragons than other mythical creatures, but the krills look like a crustacean maybe... maybe you need cook them alive like lobsters?
Oh, I am not sure if skykids canonically would do that. Though I know what you are talking about with fan art and stories.
Krill in Sky are canonically called Dark Dragons. So it would be interesting to learn what a Dragon corrupted with darkness would taste like.
What I do know is ancestor spirits have shown themselves hunting and cooking fish and crabs.
mmm i wanna try eat a krill now and get revenge of every time they scares me with their screams
It would be like quicksand to them, not hurting but not comfortable
Lava is very thick, it's not like campfire, it would be very interesting though
loved this discussion y'all, I often use your answers for text roleplays when trying to incorporate them in
Also, the fourth duets quest is interesting: ||they didn't directly die from the shard, but the damage caused them to separate, slowly being consumed by darkness (both literally and figuratively). It's a lot more slow and tragic than I realized||
My theory for the fourth duet quest
||
They say light is a symbol of connection (connect between stars and constellation/relationship(?) between people)
And darkness is the absence of light / disconnection from others or themselves perhaps (?)
The pianist and cellist began to grow apart after their dreams were destroyed. The scene where they sat together maybe could be more symbolic of their relationship drifting apart. The pianist felt despair and (maybe) wanted to move on, while the cellist stayed. As they grew apart, dark plants began to grow between them, just like it had grown on the things they loved together (the piano and cello).
||
The skid: I know just the thing for this!
whips out flamethrower
Just random but have you guys ever thought about how our character/sky kid might not actually be made of light but also fire or something? Like if you think of it the name is Sky: Children of the Light, but we get affected by rain like a fire would but also don't like darkness (fire trail dark area) for some reason even though we are light.
If you look at the concept art, the light worship was or at least started out as fire worship, and carrying fire on a pilgrimage (?) to Eden.
And before electricity you mostly just have fire as a source of light, so it could very well be that light is basically synonymous to fire in most situations, before you have the power crystals which are also powered by fire.
So yes; because fire is light
Here are the pages of The Art of Sky related to Bhutan.
I went to Bhutan quite a few years ago, so I thought I could share a few photos of Bhutan here as well. Maybe you will see similarities to what the devs have built for us in Sky.
Hello! A bit late (a week lol) but mind sharing it thru DM? I'm very interested :""D
I have made a theory of the eden elder but bits of it is based on stuff i found in sky.. So it's like he was the king and the realm elders were his soldiers and the hidden forest one is the smith and the daylight prarie one is the healer and the vault of knowledge one is the queen and isle of dawn one is the sorcerer and the valley ones are soldiers and golden wasteland one is the commander and they all obeyed the king (eden elder) but then one day the eden elder wanted to make a stone so powerful that could make a new world or break their world so he commanded all the elders to gether the items ro make it and when they got all the items he made the stone (eden diamond) and it was so powerful it broke their world and darkness covered the land and because the eden elder was so near the stone when the explosion happened that the king got STUCK in the diamond and we somehow have to dissolve the eye of eden to save the king and restore their land to the light again.
yeah based on what I've seen on yt vault elder and the king must have close relationship. When vault monk had the privilege to see him privately, I would say they are either the advisor of the king, or the consort.
But the idea of Vault elder being the queen doesn't sit right to me, like what if the elders exist before the king? that would be weird.
Ikr?? It might be maybe (another theory) the elders existed before the eden king that's why their masks and stuff look old and cracked. Maybe the elders were actually older but then the eden king moved in the vault married him?
I love the idea that the lava is so hot/bright that the sky kids can't even touch it bc they are so charged by it! combined with the updraft of hot hair rising from the lava they would just float above it never even losing charge~
So hot skids explode
Anyone got lore about the Eden Elder for me?
Make sure to reply so I get the notification
Yeah, from the art book, it seems that the Elders might have raised the King.
I also personally deduced from the Prophecy Cave murals that Isle Elder either raised or guided the other Elders.
Either way, personal headcanon: He's quite fatherly to the Valley Elders "because they're so smol with biiig responsibility
"
Agreed. However, I believe the Valley Elders weren't soldiers. Rather, ones who would organize the major propaganda shows festivals dedicated to the King and other things related to maintaining his public image.
It seems he became quite corrupt and greedy over time, and he was probably a huge factor in how people disrupted the light cycle— It was discovered you could capture the light for electricity. The art book shows a final light catching mechanism installed in Eden that would capture all light from its migration to harness. I believe this could be the Eden crystal.
It also seems like Valley of Triumph could have been a place of festivals for the King, I explained this in my bit about possible Roman Triumphs in Valley (wait I'll reply to my message about that theory).
Here's my essay about Roman Triumphs in Valley lol
Furthermore, the King and the Child/Prince might be roughly the same person. Iirc, there was one concept art about Eden's level design where the Child would fly out of the King's body and rescue us. Take this with a grain of salt though.
But, assuming that the Child and the King were the same person, that would mean the Prophecy Cave murals could also be about him as a child, in a way.
Thanks
Hello.
So I'm trying to understand the lore a bit more and a few things have been bugging me for a while to understand fully. Sorry if this one is long.
- What are the dark plants and why do they mainly cover people or things? 🪴
- Why do we break people out of stone? 🪨 Are they trapped within their dark memories before dying or something else trapped them? From my understanding whenever we help with memories we're seeing the stuff that happened to them most of it was happy but start twisting to sadness then we also see their death at the end before releasing their sole?
- Does this all mean we're just hanging around ghosts all the time once we free them from stone and we're the only alive one or are we dead too but trying to save others from being in stone/plants.

uhhh
didn't the trial chamber mention how the Eden king was actually the first child of light?
maybe we are azrael the archangel of the death, you know, the death reaper or like that if you wanna see the things like souls ore ghosts of the past
the world with that can be the heaven or the limbo or something more
but i dont think this was the idea, but well, maybe
Perhaps the vault elder was an advisor to the King. A curator of the kingdom's history to refer back to on occasion.
what are the dark plants?
darkness, plain and simple as far as i know, they just grow in random places as remnants of the shattering or however else you want to call the skypocalypse
why do we break people out of stone?
idk but that's the form of someone who lost his light and as to the memories... i have no clue and i have even less of a clue as to why the duets spirit required two times and transported you to a pocket dimension, probably just a story they want to pass on or a simple way of seeing who they were
Does this all mean we're just hanging around ghosts all the time once we free them from stone and we're the only alive one or are we dead too but trying to save others from being in stone/plants
technically they are just as alive as we (skykids) are since once we free them they go back to the light and then just figure out they wanna stay around for a while longer (but they still can't wield light directly)
i guess life and rebirth are pretty weird in the sky world
in the end that is just my interpretation so treat it with a grain of salt
-
Darkness seems to take root in places where negative energy can be found. Namely in the death of a loved one, or in the chaos of war, or even in places where negativity generally exists.
Dark plants feed off that energy, and can drain the Light from creatures caught in them. -
It is not entirely clear why people turned into stone in Sky. Although there are some mythological sources that may give a hint at what it symbolises. Namely that petrification happened when the body is drained of energy and leaving behind a husk.
A real life inspiration I can imagine could be apply (however this is a hypothesis), are the cast remains of the victims in Pompei's volcanic eruption. Where the bodies of these unfortunate people were burned and burred in ash or stone. Archeologists have poured plasted in some of these cavities to reveal what these people roughly looked like. It is a gruesome, but morbidly interesting detail if TGC were to taken inspiration from that. -
The realms of Sky are indeed haunted by the spirits of the ancestors. These ghosts were trapped in their stone husks for many years until our skykids arrived to help them out.
I could definitely see all the different view points posted so far.
Thank you all
, it's definitely interesting and I really hope one day more lore is posted in-game too.
Given that it is official that we know a collab season is on its way.
I would love to hear theories about these seasons and what lore can be deduced.
I have seen folks' varying responses towards collaboration seasons and lore:
- some dismiss them because they share lore with outside sources.
- some try to incorporate the entire season with their guest characters as part of Sky lore.
- some (like myself) sort through parts that would belong to their respective universes, and find a common ground to theorise with.
Take for example the idea of the Little Prince in Sky.
I would not consider the Little Prince himself as canon. But rather a guest character. Where I consider the influence the book has had on the game as hints to what could be canon (ex. the scholar documenting historic events, the accountant keeping record of wealth/power, performers entertained, workers completed their tasks, soldiers fought wars and some ancestors ruled over kingdoms of their own).
All of that said.
Instead of questioning how moomins would have arrived in the realms of Sky. We can rather focus on why the moomins were in Sky.
- What do they represent to the core of the lore?
- What impact they would have on the realms?
- What do they represent to the skykids?
- What can we as players learn about them?
They cover up and steal from light. The spirits are exactly that, spirits. We play as a skykid and have to free them
I think Moomins would be light creatures, similar to Manatees, where they only live in the isolated Moomin Valley
I think on the little prince as pseudo cannon or half cannon, sorry if i can't write this better, and idk all the lore i start to play on the october of the last year more or less, but with his missions i have the idea, of like the little prince arrive to sky on one of his travels (i don read his book), and the parts of the spirits on the world, are not cannon on sky or maybe the other spiritds of little prince are more like tales who the little prince tell you (player) while him pass time with you on the world of sky before to the last mision on eden
maybe some seasons or events can be totally canon or half canon if work with the world logic or their creatures, like the cinamonroll or maybe the idea of aurora who idk if it's canon or not, but maybe yes, now if aurora it's canon maybe can have other role than the real world than just a singer because she a little bit look like a type of sorcerer or a priestess a little bit on my opinion, or something like a druid, their music have a little part of magic and if you go to her concert on the past or with the event of the aniversary or with the help of a person with the wings, you can fell how she use something similar to a... how say this, high ilusion magic to make you have visions of the past while hear music
sorry i be a very fan of magic and fantasy worlds and the idea of the concert sound litteral like a type of mix of religion, with bardic powers and druid + hight level illusioner or maybe she is a type of goddess on sky?
I like the priestess angle the most, Aurora is referred to as a "spirit of light" but it's hard to decipher what that means
if i dont remember bad, on the lovecraft lore half different levels of cannon, maybe the theme of the lore of sky have that type of levels too, you know, if the collaboration of event don't collide directly with the cannon or can work on mayor or minor level with the lore can be more cannon than others, some thing can have hight level of cannon but other middle, lower or non cannon based on the how work with the world, if you think, the theories can be cannon, if they have a hight level of compatibility with the worldbuilding
but it's more a theory of the level of the cannon based, on other universe or multiverse, based on their system and how can work with this world
From what I gathered over the years of playing the game, researching its artistic themes (from the games by TGC in general), and being in the lore chat.
I know there are a few layers of lore of Sky
- Historic inspiration (Bhutanese, Buddhistic, Monastic, Greek, Mesopotamian, etc.) where the culture and mythologies of these ancient civilisations lay the foundation of the ancestors' culture and civilisation in Sky.
- Mythological, or more like fable influences like the flying fish, the dream elements, the magic of these crystals able to manipulate gravity and even seemingly bestow power to those who know how to use them. These contributed to how the forces of nature and the way the world works in Sky (namely the balance between Light and Darkness).
- A little bit of philosophy is being used, that I can tell. However, this may as well be more in line of fiction, or literature (written stories), like that of the Little Prince that influence the naïve and child like theme in the game.
- Last but not least, the core of the game that the story and the world revolves around in Sky. The theme of connection.
The relationships/bonds/connection we make with each other has a meaning in the lore. The same applies to our connection to the ancestors, the elders, the creatures both of light and darkness, and the world itself. There is this near-invisible thread that connects these elements together. One that vital to the lore, and one that TGC has focused on with every season and expansion to the lore.
TLDR
Sky lore is like an onion 🧅
It has layers, and the deeper you go, the more you want to cry, lol
like shrek?
lol yes.
when i read layers like onion i only think on shrek XD
Shrek is an underated gem.
An fairytale that is meta (self aware) and made fun of itself, but also took itself seriously.
Also, there is a musical motif it had that gave it this magical feel. And it played in important sections to emphasise a point.
Just like in Sky, where "sound is more than half of the experience"
Meaning, the music also plays a role in emphasising important points.
can ve fun if on the future sky do a colaboration with shrek
lol, imagine that
Cry from how deep it is or cry from how much material there is to peruse?
That is up to you tbh.
For me, it is how dark it can get with some philosophy on death.
Though that can also go towards to how many potential theories there can be.
Or how some questions might not get answered.
What I do know is it comes with the more time you spend on the lore.
if exist dark dragons or krills, as a corrupted version of the dragons who i don't know how look... can exist dark skykids? as corrupted dark version of skykids or can be called floorkids? this strange idea remember me a little bit darksouls because the humanity it's the bloodline of the darkflame of the first dark flame but the sky kids are the people of the sky and light right? how can be a version of darkness of skykids? or maybe the darkness can't have the power or try replicate the skykids with his darkness or try corrupt a skykid because can't corrupt all of the soul and thats the reason because all skypeople become just statues?
maybe if the darkness create a dark skykid count like a necromancy?
@nimble ingot just think on the idea of the darkness evolve into a necromancy dark zombie of sky kid idea that maybe can be posible for the darkness on the lore? the destruction of all conection with the rest of skykids corrup the light soul and consume the stakue to make a full dark sky soul and create a corrupted zombie version of sky kid like maybe a dark kid or better names you can think
What is wax?
Why do darkness plants have wax?
Why are red candles that give wax called sacred in Isle? What makes them sacred?
Does Pointing Candlemaker use wax for the candles they make?
Is the box in front of the Pointing Candlemaker in Aviary Village filled with wax?
What's the difference between red and white candles?
Why are white candles more powerful?
Just some lore thoughts in form of questions
maybe the wax are the friends who we do on the way
I think red candles are the generators of wax, while white candles are bundles of wax
Not sure if an Easter egg but it's so cool that the music of each realm plays when you hover over the map
Especially Edens

woahh thats cool i didnt know that
y'know how the Isle of Dawn has like the least darkness in there that would include home the safest place, but aviary which might be close to isle of dawn and home is touched alot by the darkness which seems strange makes me wonder what happened exactly
Feels like aviary is closer to prairie
My head canon is that Aurora is the voice of the light (she sang the ending/credit song iirc when we're in the orbit) and one when we're in Isle of dawn too
||this makes sense because we find the Duet Guide outside the door of the concert hall (i.e. close to leaving and moving on from the bad memories) and we found the Cellist behind the stage (staying in place there yet hiding from the darkness and tragedy on stage)||
||idk im just pondering bc i didnt understand the memory at first but i think i get it if its just them having diff reactions and ways of coping with what happened to them||
a similar thing happens when you are near and/or looking at the portals.
I have nothing to say, but
I want more Elder lore
No cuz my brain registered
as
's cat and not a person; and I don't think it'll be fixed until we get more Elder content
how many uses have the light on sky? a person can create a sword with light?
i say, work light energy fount and creatures like skykids are made of light, but you can use your light to make a light sword or its more probable make a fire sword on sky world?
Some elder loremaster of sky have some idea?
We do have Wasteland Elder with a giant spear and Forest Elder with her hammer, but ? if these are really made of light, due to being empowered by it.
well yeah, i think on that and how cool can look a skykid with 2 light katanas vs a krill and maybe the sky kid wearing his moth cloths but with the pot or bucket of the recently event of sun or like that on his head, you know use the light to fight with the darkness... but well, its more like a idea who born from the idea of weapons of light and how many uses can have the light on sky... maybe a flame sword can be a canddle or something like a short torch, empowered with light become the fire on a blade
I definitely wouldn´t mind having like a flametongue (fire-bladed short weapon) as an item as long as it isn´t the same as Tournament Torch, but in a different skin. And since we have Little Prince Sword Outfit ... 🤭
Just gotta make sure we´d actually have enough strong light to even hope to equally duke with Krills; after all, we needed full power of 9-Colored Deer to destroy them. O_O
maybe a level 150 skykid with one sword can cut a leg of a krill? or the sword can be used on the fragments to battle with the corrupted crabs and try purify them with the sword, i know the protections vs the power of krills cost so many hearts and are from the elders, but just just a temporal barrier vs monster who are like dragons, if can be very cool use a powerfull light sword vs a dragon, maybe if the sword appear on the game and the dev add functions to the sword, maybe just work like a glorify candle who can be used to become dark crabs into a normal crabs, or damage a krill with the half or your light wings power each hit, you know to be a little balanced and maybe dont kill krills but jest scare them by a time
yeah if the sword don't do you become into a cute food withouth energy as a glass canon... maybe combine the blade with the elders protection can be better, but just for a little time
I like to imagine a horn of a Krill and that would give us Krill Repulsion effect. I´d love that. 😈 😈 We do need something to grant us Krill Repulsion effect after all, the Dark Horn just doesn´t do any justice.
Something about sky is that you [most likely] cannot win alone
Aurora can probably square up with a krill though
But actually, 10.000 Sky Kids [the number in Aurora Concert] can probably take on the entire wasteland.
It's like how bees would surround wasps and basically cook them alive.
Voila! You have your krill soup!
i hope don't get the aggro of the krills lovers
As for purifying crabs with the flametongue of light, absolutely. And yes, Krill Repulsion effect would be limited as well, even if it would be VERY dangerous to trigger: sound the Dark Horn just as Krill is about to attack you. ;D
Good Lord, AURORA at her full power could take on a bloody King Krill if you ask me. 🤭
"Always remember, our light shine brighter together."
I bet she could smack down on em and win anyway

well yeah, maybe if the dev add something like the anti krill blade (idea name for the light sword) can be used to scate krills, but can kill one if you make a party with other players, well, can add too the light spears, or become a light smith because i like the idea of use me own body light to create items, maybe the evolve to the social aspect of sky is create the players use the light of their wings to make items of light and sell by candles to other players (the price be predefinited and can't be changed by the players but can be a funny mode to get candles from other players)
this is like a erudites of sky start studie the posibility of hunt krills XD
I doubt though
as much as it would be good, it would take the game to an entirely different direction. Sky has always been about altruism, wonder, humanity, and community. We are deprived of light in the Wasteland so we understood well the joy of having a company or being helped
Though we have a lot of ways to avoid krills and even dodge em for fun.
If we could harm krills in any way we would've, just like we do to crabs. I also heard in the early iteration they thought of giving us the ability to "save" krills and free the light from the shadow. But that was changed later on. I also theorize that krills are actually corrupted light creatures!
It sounds fun to have a twist on fighting aspect though! I usually are leaning to canon, however that kind of thing is something I would do in fanfics i wrote [If I do end up writing it]
sound a little bit like my past idea of maybe necromancy of the darkness
read this
what do you think elder rai? (i don't gonna call a lore player as veteran because sound more like soldier than a master or something like that with relation of the studies hehe)
I heard a lot that Elders as of currently [After the shattering that killed them] eixists between time and space [when you summon them in Orbit] They have powers to influence over their realm, which was gone until we bring back the light [flame]. The Elders while not being there physically [we visit their memory], would influence the world to help us such as the Isle Elder guides us to the kingdom of sky using the birds. Prairie Elder creates[?] or summon the butterflies to aid us. The Forest, Valley, and Wasteland opened the gate for us. The Valley elder brought us to the top of the Vault towards Eden
In a way I do think they still influence the world in small scale, we do most of the work.
The elders may gift us the headpiece to shield us from darkness once we complete their constellation (I suppose these spirits are people who are important to the elders in some way. Similar to Season Guides to the spirits under their lead.)
I do think the spirit is dead, but with us bringing light back to them they are reconnected to the light [not really alive but not dead either], it is out objective to bring back the fallen stars [I would think the spirits are included in this.]
well i think on the elders more like heroes of the past who with the faith evolve their spirits into something like gods, the actual pantheon of the world
if i use the idea of them as gods and the previous era as the mythic era, the modern era it's the time post the terrenal gods and they can't do a direct intervention on the planet because they are divine spirits now, and the natural causality of probality of the world don't admit a direct divine intervention from creatures of a superior plane of existence maybe
I would think they lead the realms and work together to do their collective goal to shepherd the light back to Eden
Along with The Ruler/The King/Eden Elder before things escalate
they all die in the shattering
thats my opinion after seeing the shattering memory of the elders
Each realm represents a time of day and the stages of growing civilization
The devs did say that the lore is up to interpretation, so you can believe whatever you want
They probably could, but the question is if they would
Giving a child a weapon would be a crazy idea
are dark times on golden wastelands on the dark ages, the childs are adults because all adults die young
I think golden wasteland is based on the industrial revolution
It kind of looks like this
Is this like a hat or a bag?
I think it's their mask
Does anyone know the lore behind the scouts in forest and their job?
Because I'm lost
For gameplay related scout stuff, go to #questions-and-help
But they're probably pioneers/explorers who helped survey the Forest and make little outposts
I recall during that season that it was implied that each spirit from season of Assembly are related to the spirits from season of Lightseekers.
I would not think it was meant literally (as in these are their kids). But rather that they have similar traits.
- Namely with the markings on their masks
- The roles of the individual spirits
- And the theme that the light seekers were trying to protect, or restore the nature of the realms. And the Assembly were some form of nature scouts who also wish to take care of nature in some way. Although the assembly troup are children/teenagers, so their focus may be more on having fun in treehouses.
It is a mask.
I am not quite sure based on the image what is happening.
- Why are they Greyed out?
- I dont recall the season of Performance area being that pink, not even the dreams village. Not sure if it might have been shard time that may tint the lighting or something.
Perhaps more context is needed to know more about this image.
OH I SEE
Tysm
Here are one of the images from back then in this channel.
Mealstrom took the time to show the masks compared between the seasons.
#lore-discussion-spoilers message
And another from Riki who made a similar comparison.
#lore-discussion-spoilers message
The mask makes the scouts look like descendants of the light seekers (they sorta look older to me). I see what you mean
BOT, I AM GOING TO REWRITE THAT MESSAGE AND WILL MAKE SURE YOU DONT DELETE IT WITHOUT WARNING OR REASON!
THAT WAS UNCALLED FOR!
PSA to sky folk here (apologies for the caps, this has been a thing for years)
COPY your messages in case the bot thinks to delete you message without warning or reason.
For the sake of keeping the lore relevant.
Observational comparison between the masks from seasons of Assembly, and Lightseekers.
-
Both guides's masks reflect off each other. The dot on their foreheads show this mirrored symmetry well.
-
Baffled Botanist & Laidback Pioneer
Both have a teardrop detail under their eyes. Albeit it is mirrored from one another. -
Scolding Student & Shushing Scholar
Both have triangles on their foreheads (although the former's is smaller than the latter). -
Scaredy Cadet & Crab Whisperer
Both have a stripe going down on their eyes (although they are mirrored from one another). -
Marching Adventurer & Twirling Champion
Both have triangles under their eyes. -
Chuckling Scout & Doublefive Light Catcher
Even though the line is similar to another spirit, the small 'v' indentation as well as prior knowledge of this spirit's mask was once a 'v' shape in the beta helps determine which spirit this one reflects. -
Daydream Forester & Piggyback Lightseeker
The line and dash detail on the masks cement the similarity.
The way season of Assembly reflects of Lightseekers helps reveal more info about both seasons.
Even if it is just characteristics of the spirits.
And all of that over a single word.
A single word that I am for some childish reason are not allowed to type out.
However, I can type out any synonym for it to carry the point across.
curl, crimp, twist, ringlet, wave, frizz, knot, tangle, entaglement, coil, loop, crinkle, wrinkle, warp, distort, irregularity, bend, corner, angle, crook, turn, curve, zigzag, flaw, hitch, defect, oddity, deviation and so on.
All of these words. And yet, the one word that had to be filtered out happens to be a word for something vulgar.
A word that I understand could be related to adult content. But that would rely on the context.
Describing a crease in a line are not the same as behaviour related to couples spending private time together.
This has been a problem for years
And I'll call it out, each time, it has inevitably become a nuisance.
Worst of all, there is a solution.
But I'll leave it at that before this text wall rivals the Great wall of China.
I took this image myself, today. It was during me playing the Forgetful Storyteller’s spirit memory. Idk why it was so pink lol. I also don’t know why the Storyteller was greyed out. It might have been a glitch because they were involved in a different quest today.
ahh. I see.
So this was from their memory for the emote?
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Sorry for the pings, but, do you mind if I post these on Tumblr? I'll credit of course
Hi lorechat I'm back on my nonsense about the little details in game. This time: The realm portals!(other than Eden)
So the first thing I noticed is that. The first three portals are essentially pristine. Isle's is a little chipped but that could be attributed to age. The one that's in the best condition is the Forest gate, really. But other than that these are all in decent shape
But then the Valley, Wasteland and Vault are all broken or damaged in some way.
- With the Valley, we have one of the pointy bits at the top broken in half(which is very interesting to me since there's technically two elders: the twins)
- With the Wasteland, there's a crack in one of the stones on the left side of the gate. This could also represent the way that the Wasteland Elder's statue is cracked in the temple
- The Vault's is the most interesting to me, though. It's cracked in almost a perfect diagonal third at the top. Maybe related to the fact that only a third of the Vault is shown to be fully solid ground? The rest is a bunch of floating platforms(and other objects) in a void-like space.
Anyways just some fun stuff I noticed. Not entirely sure what it means, but it's definitely interesting design-wise
i think vault being broken definitely relates to it being the closest to eden - the closest to the destruction
Maybe because the darkness only come after the valley and the afters
Maybe? But if I'm remembering right, there is some form of darkness in all the realms' main areas except the Vault and the Isle—whether it be plants or dark dragons
Let me solo krill
Yes, no problem. Please feel free to post, but please do include a link to my Twitch, if you would be so kind. https://www.twitch.tv/thatskystreamer
Hell yeah
Work of that happens and people make a cover of the let me solo her rap but with let me solo krill XD
😟 is dad okay? why's the gw elder's throne all cracked? does he have any injuries?
the rest are fine :<
He'll be fine
:< anyone know of a lore reason why he seems weaker now?
Short answer
Eden
Is there a leading theory of what created the krills?
Are they corrupted star whales or are they their own creature that was attracted to the shattering storm?
The trailer for the dusk ember seems to imply that kills approached eden even right before the shattering which challenges the star whale theory because the corruption wouldn't have happened so fast that they turned instantly even before the gem shattered...
There are also a few other things that would challenge the idea that dark creatures are just corrupted light creatures. For example in Days of Nature 2024 we were introduced to a dark worm creature that seemingly has no light counterpart. I would say the same for the monster in the abyss except there is a possibility that it could be a corrupted version of the thing that swims around sanctuary...
Let me know what you think.
Hey lorechat! Do you all think the shattering “spirits” will have wingbuffs, or should have wingbuffs?
What are wingbuffs from a lore perspective? I have a hard time visualising why the shattering structures should have wingbuffs - will they show up in orbit? Do we need to ascend them? Are they part of the soul cycle?
Wingbuff as in those things from ascension?
Yeah!
I just noticed that whenever your flying or just doing anything for that matter the shadows never show your cape just your body
Personally I believe all Elders got weaker due to the shattering or whatever (Eden n stuff... I can elaborate but idk how much you want me to elaborate
). I also believe they originally had the qualities associated with the elements assigned to them in the Prophecy Cave murals (Prairie = earth = resilience; Forest = water = patience; Valley = air = balance; Wasteland = fire = courage) but they lost these qualities after 'the big disaster'. So you can see that not only Wasteland lacks courage but Forest lacks patience (she did not even wait for us to give her the light like the other Elders, she just grabbed it
) and if we apply this theory to the other Elders, Prairie must've lost resilience (he sneep
) and Valley must've lost balance (
seems to be weaker/slower than
, therefore the pair is unbalanced; they also don't seem to be in harmony with one another on an interpersonal/emotional level).
As for Wasteland in particular, I believe he might be weaker than he used to be because he spent the most time actually fighting against darkness; aside from generally just losing hope.
I mean you get your cape by collecting the winged lights, so your cape is made of light, and something that's made of light can't cast a shadow (like if you shine a light on a candle, the candle and the wick cast a shadow but the flame doesn't)
My theory is that the krills are a byproduct of the ancestors overharvesting the light.
In the process of doing so they captured mantas and drain them off the light/soul. The wastes of the dead mantas becomes corruption and pollution. Also I want to bring these screenshots to your attention
#screenshots-and-videos message
Give it your best analysis lorechat!
i can imagine the idea of balance like, when that happens, both twins be one great elder, but when the balance colapse he become into 2 elders, or the original or maybe just be twins al the time haha, but the idea of a elder who the destruction divide himself into two entities sound very interesting
Yeah I actually believe they used to be one entity. They share a single soul, but eventually split for unknown reasons. (Personally I'm imagining the same explanation as how the Tinkerbell movies explained Tinkerbell's twin
, or it's psychological trauma)
According to the Prophecy murals though, they were already twins when everything was 'alright'. If we assume they're also the nondescript little guys on the boat in one of the first Prophecy murals, they might've even split before they even became proper Elders.
Someone pointed out that a thing for Valley is duality, which leads me to think the Valley Elders could've been some kind of Yin-Yang thing. Taoist philosophy says (iirc) that neither Yin or Yang is "bad", the bad thing is if they're out of balance. What you're striving for is harmony.
Alternatively they could've just been born as conjoined twins and they were split via surgery, hence missing one arm (edit: I believe it's a prosthetic)
But it doesn't quite add up with the missing eye for me because I don't think you could surgically separate conjoined heads... like with the brains
.. Then again, I don't know anything about how surgery for conjoined twins works
if i don't remember bad from ying and yan exist a third thing who whor as recipent like the void, by that concept by example on pokemon exist kyurem, with zekrom and reshiram, but if we try apply that on the twins elder, maybe the recipent who give balance to the elder combining the two on one be the air element, the balance who do both be better and one
if the heads are mixing i think that can be operated, i say, if you want kill one, maybe work but don't sound a great idea
So you're saying the air elements works as a connector between the twins?
yeah i think that's can work like that, how the one can be two, but without a conector as the balance, can't be one again, without the gray scales the black and white are just opuest, the good and bad can be enemies if dont exist the balance and middle points, you need 3 things to make 2 on 1
I see 👍
I just remembered the intro where it's explained the stars fell from the sky (I think? I don't remember anymore it was long ago
) and the Valley Elders were definitely one there so I think something could've happened then or shortly after that split them
Wanted to point out at Trials area, between the walls at the fire trial and air trial there seems to suggest that the area that the trial is placed is basically made from dead bodies. I mainly said that cause of how in the water trail it looks as if the land we use to get above the water as made by dead bodies cause of the people draw are laying down as if they are just dead
I interpreted that as those were the people that failed the trials, signifying that perhaps only a special person could even get through there (or just that it's really, really hard)
There's an old version of sky where in the beginning it said "you're far away from home and lost at sea. You must find your way back home or maybe make this your new home" i found it in an old YouTube vid
Ohh I didn't know that. Cool. Don't personally consider it canon though
I did thought about that too but which popped up the question, where did the fire trial monster came from. It doesnt popped up in the walls other than the people
I never really thought about that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't think they're the souls of dead people if that's what you're getting at, they're definitely part of the trial and they were there from the start.
Maybe they're guardians?
But that would beg the question as to why the other trials don't have similar guardians.
The other interpretation would be that they're just a manifestation of darkness but that wouldn't answer the question as to where they come from
That would make sense. The other thing that got me questioning is mainly why the trials and what is it for. It the ceiling you could see a krill but it doesnt seem to be attacking or anything. Its avoiding the four main elements of the trials.
Plus if its based off the realms elements. It wouldnt make sense why there's four. Maybe im over thinking this. A lot of the story seems to be based around running away from darkness to me
maybe that is the real form of the darkness on the krills
It would be cool that way. Reminds me of the toxic water in gw and maybe they turned into clouds. But the fire trials creatures have two eyes unlike krills with one
exist a krill on the trial? i never see him
What?
No there are no krills in the actual trials; but the murals in the Prophecy Cave show a picture of a krill
maybe a translation error, i principaly speak spanish and i translate the discord on chrome, but i write on english to practice my english
well i say the manifestation of the darkness, no who that darkess it's the krill souls, if the darkness is autoconcient, maybe that is the true form of that, and when a krill its corrupted by the darkness, the darkness enters to the krill and become it evil
like a demon who posses a person, the demon can have 2, 4 or thousand eyes, but on the persone just have 2
If this is true. It kinda makes it seem like darkness is a failed experiment to me. Since the only place that is filled with krills is golden wasteland which i would assume is the birth place for krills.
Maybe the elder in golden wasteland was trying to make a bunch of warrior spirits to protect the realms but ended up destroying everything
Correct!
well if that be true, i think can be posible on a future update the create of darkness kids, or dark skykids who can be darkness of death skykids by the krills or fragments
well with this, the sky kids count a little bit like persons and angels, but what happens when one skykid fall?
Reminds me of the season of shattering spirit. They're both light and darkness not to mention they offer cosmetic for us children which in a sense proves it
I don't be on that season
The trials harbor the elements, and you complete the trials to get the elements. We don't really know what they're for, but we see the Elders deliver the elements to Eden; maybe it was part of the pilgrimage of light that was part of their society before the industrialization.
If this is the case, we can tie this into the narrative of how the Elders started using the light for themselves: They used the power of the elements for themselves, instead of bringing them back to Eden.
TL;DR: the elements are also just light, but they're special lights.
As to why there's four: first of all; water, earth, fire and air are just classic elements in storytelling in the west.
If we apply these to the realms though, I believe we kind of have to think outside the box for this. Vault is technically just a very large tower connected to Wasteland, and I don't personally think of it as an entirely separate realm. Isle is just the place where they arrived; the beginning of civilization and the place of prophecies. I view it less as a whole realm in itself and more just as a harbour.
Isle Elder doesn't seem to matter as much in the overall society of Sky though imo, he was mostly just there in the beginning. I can imagine the most important Elders in the modern age of the kingdom being Prairie, Forest, Valley and Wasteland; Vault was important too but I think she kind of did her own thing. So when the elements were distributed among the Elders, it made sense to give the elements to Prairie, Forest, Valley and Wasteland and not Isle or Vault.
if a player can play as the idea of fallen skykid maybe the players who try play like that are all krill lovers who search moths to feed krills
i did the shattering quests but i forgor ✨ you can elaborate if you want
OMG THEY LOST THE ELEMENTS THEY HAD?!! WOAH THAT'S amazing speculation, i agree with it
sad tho :< poor dad </3 he/she/they fighted so hard
who's missing an arm?
i think of the vault as a connector between the golden wasteland and the entrance to eye of eden too, like a big elevator :D
this interesting, ty!
Each Valley Elder has a weird looking arm on the side of their missing eye. I concluded its a prosthetic hence they're technically missing an arm
I have never had someone get so excited about my contribution to the lore chat aaa :>

I'm gonna elaborate soon, I forgot to eat so I definitely need to do that rn
There is also a theory where the Valley Twins lost part of their bodies in some way and use some kind of prosthetics, another way to elaborate their imbalance
they had a missing eye each too?? D: i didn't pay attention really to the twins, ig we know they're not my favourite now XD [they stole my light!! >:(]
The Sibling Rivalry™️ is very strong with those two and it shows who doesn't have a sibling who fights a lot
Hey, at least they tried to ask
Forest Elder was the one who didn't ask for the light; and our Skykid is so confused lmao
I pay lots of attention to them, they're my fav
Did you know that when you zoom into
's hair in the Elder oob, you can see that their ear looks weird? That's how much attention I pay to them
Cursed to know that this is the second character from a game with a weird ear, the first being that parasol human abomination from BATIM
true i was also stolen from by the forest elder, but at least they made a cool thing with it instead of BATTING IT INTO SPACE LMAO
i didn't know you can zoom into cutscenes, is this a pc thing too?
Ngl I do want to see an adult sized Skykid mostly because nearly every single spirit and guide is an adult or young adult, with the exception of spirits like Pleading Child
i will constantly search for huge spells just to become an adult sized skykid </3 i miss my height
wait does this mean teenager? oh wait that's young adult wait so you mean a kid that's the same height as an adult??
An adult Skykid, like how there are adult spirits :3 A skydult if you will lol
To be fair, I have no idea what Forest Elder is doing there because that's not how blacksmithing works
. At least the Valley Elders are doing something comprehensible
And all Elders actually send the light somewhere into space
As for zooming into the cutscene, no you can't do that. I mean the out of bounds area you can either glitch into or access via the Elder pins. In the Valley Elder out of bounds area, the Valley Elders would just stand around for a minute after watching the cutscene and then teleport back into the air. You can examine them pretty well in there (and it also looks kinda funny)
OH like a canon skykid vs a spirit, i'm surprised they're not the same thing. skykids won't grow up into spirits bc the spirits are... ghosts. right?
Yis, in a way like ghosts and spirits are very similar irl
Great, now I'm stuck thinking about what the heck Forest is doing in her cutscene
Girl is trying to flatten fire
she made a thing to hold it and send the power to the sky :D
someone akin to the little prince rather than aurora [she's a spirit while he's a tangible skykid :D]
Yeah but she doesn't need to hit the fire for that
Vault Elder did it just fine. The fire fits into the cube just fine.. maybe she just wanted to showcase her cool hammer
she did 😅 she is a blacksmith after all- vault elder's just straight magic and knowledge
So I wasn't referring to Season of Shattering specially, I was just trying to find a name for the big kaboom that basically broke everything. I'm pretty sure that's the thing that killed them and took most of their power.
And the big kaboom probably came from the King trying to farm light in Eden and this thing ended up breaking. I don't know exactly how, maybe because it sucked light from everything else around.
The important thing is that darkness spread as a consequence of their abuse of light, and I think that detached them from their elements.
Yeah I know but still, it doesn't make any sense for her to hit the fire
I don't think so. Wingbuffs seem to be part of an Ancestor Spirit's soul, and these are kind of different. They never ascended beforehand, so I don't think they'll ascend now
I think the Valley Elders are one light, but two bodies, if that makes sense
No that makes perfect sense to me, I believe that too. I just think maybe they had one body at some point but later split in twain
But yeah it could also be that it's illustrating their light and not how many bodies they have
the most magical factory explosion?
Yes
ok on further inspection i postulate that the core that we have can be malleable through force, and she hits the fire to help it adhere to the shape of the thing she had that crumbled
But the fire isn't attached to anything. It's just floating there
it is indeed
I think the Forest Elder is trying to "enchant" the fire to make it more useful for the dark stones
By hitting it with a hammer?
Guys I was just trying to make a joke I didn't think this would turn into an actual discussion
~~this is lore discussion i think anything can be overthought
~~
That's fair. I overanalyzed the fact that the Valley Elders are officially called Elder of the Valley in Orbit
Like they're treated as one person but honestly,
definitely seems like they have agency independent from
and vice versa
I also once overanalyzed how
seemingly attempts to hit
with their bat in the cutscene
I thought they were being evil for like four years until I kind of realized that maybe they just have bad eyesight
what if the smith is trying to make the fire light sword who we talk before, with that fire?
the fire's not visible in the diamond casing, so i assume the heat of it is spread out inside the shape, heating it up with the core, like a stone balloon
what sword? i missed that
I don't think it's the Eden door itself, I think the door's just directly charged with the Elder's powers
So when we re-awaken it, they open up a part of the door. That could make for some interesting theories, like why was Eden sealed away unless the 6 Elders were there? Is that relating to the ancient memory?
omg you reminded me about the elder shard memory :O idk how many were there
anyway, i don't think the eden door is powered up just from the elder's consciousness, they each have to do something to light it up
oh, it's a dumb theory i make yesterday to how hunt krills hehe, and some jokes of let me solo krill born too
the idea start more or less here
I think in the Two Embers (if they include the elder shard memory, which they probably will), there's probably a scene of the Elders powering up the door and walking through it to confront Eden
@solid cave that idea grow so fast and was funny if you have some time try read hehe, i hope you like that silly theory hehe
sky could have been in our like world
it's concepts for Isle of Dawn
yall look at this motes thingies
so pretty
Honestly the concept art is just so pretty
Sky would've been so much more post-apocalyptic if it was set in a world that looked like ours - I'm kind of glad they didn't go that route, I don't think the vibes would have been right
The city-like aspects are still there in Valley and such
I want the rings to be a thing once more not as a wedge concept just a side thing you can find and collect along with winged lights doesn’t to anything just gives you rings
They kinda revived that ring hairstyle with that one Aurora spirit, so that's neat
it got too advanced for me at the end 😭 but i think instead of a krill-hurting sword it should be a bonking stick of light that scares them
rotate the krill
well can be a sword who cut the darkness and puriffy the krills
ooh i like this idea
with 12 sky kids into a party attack the krill to try puriffy him into a normal krill
what would they turn into
this would be a great opportunity to know
yeah hehe
maybe the darkness make a darkstone armor on their bodies and that do that krill aspect and they are things like the creature of the vault on the more less the last or previous to the last floor
and they're controlled by some sort of bad magic
sound plausible
Dark plant consuming light and using it to grow back after being burnt
Is the baffled Botanist Grandma’s actual grandchild?
Because they go to the table whenever it’s time for dinner
They also sit in a special seat that’s near another special rock seat that’s sunken into the ground
Hey y’all I was trying to get to an oob when I noticed this in valley of triumph
So I’m guessing valley of triumph had an alliance with golden wasteland. But I thought valley of triumph were the ones who attacked golden wasteland in the two shield theory?
Are you my compeatitor?
I'm attempting to research and determine what skykids are, how they work and what each part of them is. I've come to multiple conclusions I'm pretty sure about except for the cape. One of the possibilities that crossed my mind was that the cape could be part of the skykid's body, but I doubt that, as it is removed in multiple scenes of the game and can be changed like the cosmetics, which I determined were projections or perhaps holograms. Any ideas on what it might be?
People say the capes are made out of light and that when we collect the wl it becomes a part of the sky kid. So basically we need the light to fly but the wl is a part of our sky kid
Ohh wait hold on you might be onto something with that
Idk if this is true though I am researching more about the time before the corruption
Maybe the cape is similar to the cosmetics in the sense that it's a projection made of light, but instead woven from the light of WL instead of the skykid itself.
i thing the caps as soul projection of wings more like spiritual energy solidificated on a material thing who work like wings, its part of you but not a body part if not a soul part of you (sorry my bad english)
The cape manifests because of the winged light they posses.
Without any winged light (or when repressed), the cape disappears. Which leaves the skykid's own flame vulnerable to darkness.
The cape is like a shield, or more like a buffer.
The more light the skykid has, the more resilient they are, as well as more power they have at their disposal.
It is made of light, and it helps skykids with they mission to reach eden and cleanse darkness.
Ok wait yeah that makes sense
Holdon I'm gonna run over what a skykid is real quick, to me at least.
The skykid itself is the flame in the center of its chest. The body it uses to interact with the world is made out of stardust it collects falling from the sky after birth. When a skykid's stardust body is destroyed, it will return to the sky and fall again, collecting stardust to reform.
Being a flame, it glows, you know, produces light. This light is used to project and form the cosmetics in game. The outfits, shoes, masks and little accessories are all made of light. (Masks are often worn because of cultural significance.)
The capes are made of light too, but instead of being made of the light produced by the skykid, it's collected from winged light; fallen stars taking the form of a skykid. These powerful light sources are used to weave capes that allow the skykids to take powerful hits that would normally destroy the form of a skykid and also gracefully fly by using the energy of the light in the cape. Once all of the light has been used, the skykid will fall and have to recharge the stars with external warmth or light.
with this theory we confirm one thing, if we get lava, the lava can't give damage a skykid because it's make with stardust his body
Skykids are literally fire, lava would be safe
yeah, the lava theory be a discussion was happens some days on the past and with the fire and star theory i remember that theory
but maybe more than fire maybe the skykid its a living plasma who looks like fire
poeple wondered if a skykid is able to withstand the mindblowing heat of lava.
But have yet considered wether a krill is also as Lava-proof...
ohhh... maybe the krill eat the light of lava and that reduce the heat, with less heat the lava slowly become into stone?
Here's an updated diagram!
What do you think the winged light childs are? I had a small theory that they are memories of important moments in the king's life like when they completed the trials and everyone realize they where the prince of the prophecy (being located at the end of each one)
Or like that light child that is just above the red shard in that memory where all the elders falling and the star Is entering the shard from the season of shattering
I heard people talking about shiny boys being lost souls and that we collect them and then give them back their soul/light at Eden.
Can y’all please help me I’m still working on the two shield theory and I can’t figure out who wasteland was fighting against 😭
I'd also like to know
They fought each other, krill, and killed mantas and stuff
From my understanding it was a civil war
The shields having sun or darkstone symbols make me think the war was between the ones who wanted to respect the light vs the ones viewing it as a tool to exploit
It happened right before the shattering (aurora concert shows up the shattering is what ended it by killing everyone), so i imagine at that point the fears and tensions regarding usage of light would've been at their peak, thus causing war
I'm telling you. Sky is the story of greed. 😭
i remember hearing this theory before. i think it fits. i assumed the King was on the exploiting side?
From what it seems based on the murals and the last shattering memory, he was responsible for creating the giant darkstone crystal in eden
Oh wait that actually makes sense. I just have one more question what happened after the war? Because Tsadi has the sun shield at his grave thingy but does that mean that the sun won? During the aurora concert we see the soldiers of the sun shield beaten all the way back to the temple.
After the war everyone died because the war got ended by the Shattering
Meaning darkness took over the realms and destroyed everything
Then some unknown amount of time passes and we're at current time i would imagine
OOOH! Wait that makes sense! The elders had gone to Eden to stop the corruption. Since people were scared and had their opinion on what to do they started a civil war while Tsadi was away. YOURE A GENIUS
I don't think tsadi was away
They look to me like they were indeed a warrior and have battled
It's just
Nobody won
The apocalyse happened in the middle of the war
In the aurora concert you see it happening in the middle of the battlefield
Meteors falling from the sky and only desolation afterwards
yuss he is.
werent the elders also split on the war sides? yet had to come together to prevent the boom.. failed, of course
I don't think there is much info on how each elder behaved during the war
Beyond GW elder, who was pretty clearly a warrior
there isn't but i believe they didn't all enjoy each other's presence
Presumably forest would be on darkstone side
And prairie on sun side
Based on their cutscenes
mhm mhm, forest would definitely be dark.
my friend and i theorized that isle (i forgot their names. i know they have them.) was on darkstone side, but regretted it
The art book said she came to regret her abuse of the light after 'the Child' (presumably Alef/younger King) moved on so it could very well be that she changed sides later. Or she had this realization wayyy too late
In the trailer for the two embers people are fleeing from isle (we also see that during aurora) might have something to do with why it’s a desert now idk
i havent seen this before
YEAH THE ART BOOK IS A GEM

I also think this is interesting. But maybe that's just bc I'm a big fan of the Valley Elders
.
It also makes me believe they were on the darkstone side of the war; wanting to preserve their current, lavish lifestyle. But I also think they probably weren't personally present and just tried to cover up that the war is even happening
Oh em Goodness!! I NEED this
This raises the question, was prairie against the darkness? He seemed to be in favor of the light
When it was dire, he was mostly focused on caring for his community it seems
He's a good fella!
But we can see Prairie was mostly supply for the other realms in a couple murals, jars of light being shipped to the other realms. So he did contribute to the abuse of light
ohh.. that's unfortunate. But at least he cared for the wildlife, yk? even if he was contributing to it. i bet he feels bad.
All the Elders feel bad now. I think Valley were the last to feel remorse for what they did (if we don't count the King)
(Btw I think Valley were the least caring about the animals. The art book even says there was a concept of finding animal bones in cages in or after Valley to show they were abusing animals for entertainment
)
Even in Aurora we see mantas in cages everywhere..
oh my god that's so sad??
why, valley?
Poor lil mantas
Maybe I remember it darker than it was but I believe it's just that Valley were incredibly immature; they put their own wealth and entertainment above the good of nature
Speaking of which. The race on the left side where we fly instead of sled that area before it on the stairs you see this bird animal laying there just dead on a big Rock. They had no value or respect for animals
yeah, that shows. they do seem like they had no regard for wildlife
Each elder is fitting for the realm they are in
Or, the realm fits them
They have authority over the realms after all
I personally headcanon that Valley wanted to have some sort of exotic pet but had zero idea how to tend to one
Bonus points if the animal in question isn't even domesticated
Hm... That is another way to say it.. For valley I feel like it's true they just loved entertainment, probably wanted a giant zoo for all we know.
I also hc they wanted to "have" the whale in Hidden Forest at some point and the other Elders had to talk them out of just trying to grab it
I wonder how they treated people
Probably not great either
im checkin this out. is it in the race or the area before the race?
