Helo lore chat, I only ever lurk here but a friend of mine and I were pointing out together that the “whales” (in sanctuary) look like sea serpent-sized Sea Slugs and I thought it was pretty neat considering we already have a Little Guy that has been made Not A Little Guy (krill)

The theme of making the player feel small in a comfortable way seems to be carried over in all aspects including the creatures.

No, but that’d be kind of interesting to make a timeline of events based on the seasons. Some seasons appear to take place directly after the events of the big shattering like Abyss and seemingly Remembrance, while others fit imo as probably taking before everything went down like Dreams. Others are harder to place which is why I think nobody’s tried yet.

The florist might not be angler; just because people look similar doesn’t mean they’re the same person. To be honest, it seemed like the point of wounded Warrior’s memory (and remembrance generally) was that their loved one died and that they only had one thing (the sapling) to remember them by, hence why they were grieving them in the first place. We know angler died in treasure reef as that’s where their spirit is.

To expand on the pollinator theory, we're hopping through portals a lot and the flowers tend to look the same or very similar in every area (shhh I know tgc didn't put much thought into their flower design, just roll with it) so we've essentially been bringing those little light seeds everywhere- maybe even on our capes? fabric that almost reaches the ground is bound to pick something up on the way.

Somewhere inbetween they do all the in-game activities.

I think that most things in Sky are sustained by Light magic and energy. Butterflies seemingly manifest out of expended Light when burning dark plants, jellyfish and mushrooms seem to contain it as well as skykids can use it to recharge their Light energy. To some degree I think that most of the smaller less complicated life forms in Sky like the butterflies and tiny birds just sort of spontaneously generate wherever there is high concentrations of Light energy, like in the clouds

I mainly came up with this theory during Abyss to explain why there were undersea Light creatures like the fish. Something that could act similarly to the clouds which might absorb and contain copious amounts of Light may be water! Sunlight IRL plays a huge role in sustaining complex aquatic ecosystems. Good point! To this I also theorize that Skykids are pretty complex beings. Most of the smaller creatures in Sky are pretty simple by comparison, and thus they require less Light energy than a Skykid. You’ll notice that in the Abyss waters if you’re close to the shallower areas or areas where there are sea plants resembling the mushrooms from Forest and you can actually recharge your Light on that. I think those are much more concentrated amounts of Light energy and the deeper you go, the harder it is to absorb in the water like in real life. This is also what I propose the special “diving”masks are: They have tiny power diamonds in them if you look closely, and I propose that they can store the Light energy in the same way that the larger diamonds in Vault are powered by them. This makes the Skykid retain their Light easier in the water when wearing one.

Clouds have much less substance to them which provides more easily absorbable amounts of Light energy than water

Open flame seems to be the easiest way for a skykid to recharge. If a skykid were to fly directly into the sun they could probably recharge but ambient sunlight when just being outside isn’t enough to charge them up.

My initial thought is when the dynamic of the world began to shift. I.e. the invention of darkstone(? I think this is the gem created in the forest).

Megabird(the entity of light for Sky. Not sure if this is 100% canon or just widely accepted. I apologize for all the uncertainties! ) gave life to the children of the light to essentially help balance out the surface.

Granted, when first starting to play, the opening is happy you've returned. So I personally believe that once Eden Shattered, there was a very long window of no children of light to help.

the light people are interacting with and need to survive is something that animates them but which isn't native to the world

and the progressive debt of light in the world isn't because there is less and less of it over time, but because there was only ever a specific amount of it, and people used progressively more and more of it in the course of their advancing civilization

eventually there wasn't even enough for people to survive with, and those civilizations went to war and crumbled

I'm not entirely sure if the path to orbit was still functional in the time of the Vault's use, but given people are storing the concepts needed to make virtual worlds to live in and which they themselves seem to reside permanently within, it's as likely it was just a last resort of survival

But even their last refuge needs light to function, and the memory crystals the people are stored within don't stay lit and functional forever.

I dunno, there's some ambiguous stuff going on with the function of eden

what if eden is just a giant memory crystal like what we see in the Vault, and was created with the intention of being launched into space so that the people of the world could continue to exist ephemerally forever in their own virtual plane of existence

and... it just never got off the ground before light-hungry neighbors decided they needed it for themselves
decided to try and fight their way in, killed everyone and then got killed themselves
and then finally the krill and other darkness creatures made their way to it, and it exploded

This is more like a question, but how old are skykids really? Like, they made of light.
light can and have been noted to be billions of years old, but skykids take the form of a 8-12 year olds.
They start out as very young looking kids, but are fully indepentend except in few key places that mostly go towards; this is dangerous, this is not.
So how old are we in the beginning of the game and do we even age?

even the child spirits, such as the hide n seek pioneer, is still significantly bigger than the sky kids, and they even give you the chibi mask which is the smallest size you can be in-game, which tells me that that spirit is the smallest spirit, and yet even the biggest size of sky kid would still be noticeably smaller!

we are playing as the Light which animates and gives life to everything, but given the form of living beings

it would be like if the electricity running a computer eventually escaped and decided to pretend to be a computer

it's probably profoundly strange to the ancestors we visit that we even exist at all, but I guess seeing as how they are currently indisposed and even their ephemeral forms are fading away, they're in no position to complain

we aren't experiencing the world as the ancestors did, we are something entirely new, which never existed before

it kind of tracks, it would be miserable to be the energy of all living beings when the only things left alive are cold unfeeling machines and memory crystals, so their evolution into facsimiles of ancestors checks out, it's what they remember the most fondly

this is probably why the elders bug out seeing us, lol

they probably stopped seeing people for a long time and then suddenly we show up with presents of life giving light

the forest elder sees you and rejoices because you give her the energy to repair her memory crystal, and when you do, she floats up and sockets it into the big machine wheel at the roof of the room, activating it

journey was big on the idea that the ancestors continue to exist spiritually in some form or another, and the only way you could interact with them was by connecting to statues and meditating in front of them
but they didn't like, physically do anything in the world, it was just like watching a vision

so I want to assume the elders in Sky are either literally spiritual beings, or merely people who had themselves etched into memory crystals early on so they could permanently help everyone make their way to Eden

because we do see the isle elder standing in plain sight in his temple in the Aurora concert alongside tons of people in floating boats

something i was thinking of re-watching the game's official intro cutscene is that the elder's size could be somewhat linked to them being something akin to royalty or gods in their realms that are worshipped, therefore making them more powerful in some way and that makes them able to stay as memories that don't exactly need to be awakened like the spirits

( they are "worshipped" in terms of them being depicted in dozens of legends and shrines, so there's a lot of people that would know about them if not basically treat them like gods)

After that thing that sparked last night between the ancestors genders I've been thinking about how gender and identity would be treated in their times (And I'm sorry if I offend anyone, English isn't really my first language and I have a hard time explaining things)

I imagine the ancestors raised their children to be gender non-comforming and as those children became older they were able to express themselves more. The concept of femininity and masculinity existed still, but gender non-comforming was the norm and body truly didn't matter to them. It was just a cultural norm to be genderless, yet acceptable to express yourself however you wish. If an ancestor felt as if they wanted to identify as a male, that was completely fine!

I don't know why I was thinking of this, it's just the idea of a gender non-comforming world feels so comforting as a non binary person.

They probably both would! A lot of Valley spirits were in the war; we know this because a ton of them have armor. We don’t know for sure, but if there was a draft of some sort and Warrior was still alive at that time then they probably would be included. Unfortunately, again, this is mostly speculation.

As for Seed of Hope; they seem to be a war medic. Wasteland unfortunately doesn’t seem to have a lot of funds to cover war equipment; not all of its soldiers have armor or war masks. They might’ve forgone armor so that someone else could use theirs and be better protected, I can totally see that.

It depends on how much you see the war being planned. If it was a sudden thing, I’m not sure most Valley spirits would have time to prepare before jumping into it. Also, we do see Postman, who used to be a valley racer and still wears their old uniform, and was likely never a soldier. Valley manta racers seem to have been a thing long before the war; Vela has a theory that the Aurora troupe was a manta racer one as well! (I like to think they’re like, manta performers though, but still very close)

However, I can definitely see manta racers using the skills they learned in racing for combat, even if they didn’t strictly learn them for that purpose.

It doesn’t have to be hatred that caused the war! Valley seems to be the realm that used darkstone the most, while Wasteland (and Forest to a lesser extent) bore most of the consequences of its overproduction, especially in relation to harvesting light creatures. I could see the war as a worker’s strike in Wasteland that devolved quickly, because a lot of Valley citizen’s lives quite literally rely on darkstone.

The animal elders were def bossfights, one of them even has mechanisms to take it down, but later on in concept they looked like this (below); their role was much less like that of an opponent since Isle became a guide, Prairie took care of the keys to the next realm and so on. Forest still tried to mislead you through the realm but less violently.

I’m trying to explain to a friend who is starting the game how the lore isn’t concrete but it’s actually really fun to theorize

1. Megabird(?) and light creatures have existed for a while. Possibly even longer than Ancestors. They used the natural air to travel and cycle through life death and rebirth

2. Ancestor spirits take notice. They realize that light has power. They capture light creatures to extract said power, but this in turn changes the life cycle of said creatures

3. Ancestors discover darkstone and use it with light energy to create power diamonds, which is like a huge battery. They power cities with them (Valley) and even store information with it (Vault) but darkstone production takes a toll on the environment (Forest and Wasteland)

3.5. Maybe the first Skykid is born in this time?

4. Somehow, the elders/ancestors take this knowledge in the eye of eden, which is sacred. There may or may not have been a king of the ancestors here. Unfortunately, this was a terrible idea. The whole place is destroyed and has become the storm we see now.

5. The ancestor spirits all die in different ways, now that their civilization is falling apart and the light having faded

6. The Megabird(?) attempts to save the kingdom’s spirits and reclaim them by sending more children of light, freeing the spirits to be reborn again

This unfortunately wasn’t communicated super well earlier, and is a bit of a nitpick, but in the conversation following this Megabird was referred to a lot with she/her pronouns — possibly accidentally giving the impression They’re a goddess. This most likely isn’t true. In the few concepts They were described in, They were always described as essentially a conglomerate of souls and experiences who gathered together in the Light before showering back down onto the earth. As the amalgamation of a bunch of people and creatures, none of which have gender, They wouldn’t as well.

They’re a really interesting concept and I think reducing Them to a typical run of the mill god or goddess takes away from that a lot.

I get that using she/her pronouns for Them might be a headcanon, but new folks might not know that, and so if you don’t specify they’d just assume it’s canon. Something to keep in mind.

Mantas,boats,pots with butterflies .

Personally I’m thinking next season will be Isle, as Flight had a lot of Prairie influences, but we’ll see for sure! One of my friends, Vela, noticed that seasons usually come in an alternating light/dark themed pattern. Shattering was dark, Aurora was light, Remembrance is dark, so the next season will likely be brighter and sunnier. It would make sense for that to be in Prairie.

Last time I tried Eden was during shattering and there was some kind of graphical effect that got added that made the wind particles move over the skykid cause a bright flashing effect that gave me a migraine and I’ve been too scared to go back since lol

Yeah I interpreted the double sky kid as actually a moment of fracture, the hug in this case would also be a single kid dividing into two.
I also think that the placement of winged lights are actually the memories of someone else being imprinted in time, hence why a lot of them seem to be placed in striking positions

i always miss the two that are off to the very left side in that one "hole" in the mountain, they're so far away from the rest of them i don't really bother with it either

This would also be either a solidification of the concept of two bodies sharing one core, or, if we consider that those kids are already completely separate entities, that winged lights are about the moment and not the individual, given that two kids can create a single winged light

Yeah exactly! Like the WL’s might be shattered fragments of the original’s memories of the world while the more physical aspects of them was reborn into the Skykids, which is why they can also “absorb” the WL - in some way they’re a part of them

i'm glad they made the end a little easier, but they cranked the wind in the first part back up and made it stronger than i remember it from a year ago

It’s actually kinda cute if you take that aspect into ascended wings we receive from ancestors: they’re giving us the light of the moments we spent together, that’s why we get access to a new part of their friendship tree, cause we got closer :)

And I’m preeetty sure Salem and others already talked about this but it’s also why we always have 7 wings after the hug cutscene in Eden, those are inherently our own memories, the ones we acquired without any outside interference
