i mean ancestors did turn to statues, maybe when the explosion happened the blast killed them of corse, but also like maybe so much darkness came out at once that it created a shell around the ancestor, thus leaving them stuck and unable to ascend and be dormant
if we go with light crystalizes when met with darkness
thinks about supersaturated solutions
TW for body horror and discussion of corpses, also fears of being locked in place (?).
||If ancestors petrify upon death like skykids, maybe their inner light gets taken over/crystallized into this blue crystal, freezing them in place. Their shell (or skin or whatever) becomes dark gray stone, and all the light inside just… freezes.||
||…what if this is where darkstone comes from. It would explain how it holds light and how you might get and charge it from creatures… it would also be a very, very literal version of fossil fuels.||
salem your brain
donate your body to capatalism /j
Like most darkstone is mined out of the ground, especially in the beginning, leftover from the corpses of long dead creatures. But then you run out of natural resources and start having to use living creatures instead
seriously though i love this and will be mortified if this was the case
sky war, terrible for the people, great for the economy (darkstone)
I know it was only a concept art, but those creatures of light that die of natural causes do not leave "remains", but that's not to say darkstone increased after wars
HELP
Patch notes once referred to ancestor statues as spirit husks. When I think of husks, I think of like a a snake or lizard’s shedding skin or an empty egg shell from a hatchling or a crisalise — a cast, basically, that forms into the shape of the thing it poured over.
I’ve always seen these husks as made of darkness, perhaps clinging onto a spirit and drawing on their light until there’s too much darkness and not enough light to keep them moving. They petrify
... so is sah technically a personsona
Their fursona is BLOOD
STOOPPPPPPPPPP
oh gender actually
I kinda considered their bodies as being the husks, and their memories being the spirit, which is why we have to guide the spirit back to the hust to allow them to ascend, or collect the pieces, as they were blown apart over many years
Full of light blood? / blood light?
the horrors /ref
WHY DID YOU PUT A JUICE BOX SALEM??????
I see that juice box emote, Salem
SALEM NO NOT YUM
rats are like vampire Capri Suns if you think about it
Don't stick a staw into ancestoral husks
Sip
wait what how?
oh that's delicious
especially considering how skykids will be covered in barnacles of darkness when they lose their light...
Don't count on it..
full of The Horrors yet again
Vampires tend to dislike the blood of vermin, fun fact
Oh man does that mean the

al. dude
Hi there, please don’t ping me tyvm
And how might you know this, man named Alasdair who talks like they’re 200 years old
Oi
grab you grabs you grabs you grabs you
there you have it
Why do you think vampires are known to bite humans and not rats?
you called c a chap earlier I didn't comment on it
oughhh
bc rats don't tell stories about how their buddies got bitten by vampires, duh /t

hmm getting a little graphic (cw for missing limbs but) ||if a ancestor lost a limb on accident would it just brake off like what happens with statues with crystalized ends hardening or nah||
HELP SO TRUE
Maybe? Depends on how much of them is light. Like if they just have light veins surrounded by flesh and those crystallize into blood probably not, but if they’re more similar to skykids and have a hard outer shell as well as lots of light inside I can see it
Haven't we seen a spirit with a wound?
I know there have been eyepatches
The abyss spirits are banged up, but that’s mostly their masks, which are cosmetics, and not their skin
yayay i guess it really comes down to personal hc's
same cw in my previous mssg but ||maybe outer layer is crystal but inner later actas like blood? so if its cut off or somthing you had crystal layers and just possible blood spilling out||
I’m sobbing /positive
ya for assembly but we never seen open wounds like this for this ancestor
Actually, that puts me in mind of those unsavable statues in Eden, maybe after too long without light, the complete husk hardens, the scatters away with wind and rocks
what makes skykids grow crystals? like in-game
ough i gotta think of that one
one of the aurora spirits got hit by an arrow in their memory
that's the most wound we've seen so far i assume
hey lore chat!
why do sky kids and spirits wear mask? how come when we wear the masks, light leaks through the eye holes, but without masks we have no eyes? was there a point to having animal shaped masks or was it just fashion?
OMG coming back to the darkstone as ancestors theory here
what do YOU think?
animal masks actually signify professions iirc! it's super cool
Skykids have eyes, they’re just closed when maskless
hm so maybe no mask hurts the eyes? that’s why they’re closed?
Most of the performing spirits wear animal masks, that even extends to the performance season all resembling penguins
maskless amander jumpscare
[pulls piece of salami out of pocket]
Amander will rekt you
for the first question cue this message here i just think its preference for tl;dr
and why do some spirits have capes while others don’t
cultural reasons ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Fashion Sky!
prefrence
why do some people wear hats while others don’t? same thing prolly
hm. i thought it would have something to do with some being able to fly and others not, like a social class thing
Ancestors couldn’t fly
More like some people wearing jackets while others don’t!
oh fr?
There does tend to be a social class thing on flying, but it was more about owning manta, or enough darkstone to build flying boats (without crashing them)
ya they just have it for fashion reasons, wouldnt have flying boats if they could
oh yeah i forgot about the boats!
yayay pus theres no cutscenes of ancestors flying like skykids so there's that
Capes are cool as hell
Idk, we can fly, but need boats for far away places, like treasure reef and forgetton ark
when you wear a jacket not for practically but simply because it looks cool
ive done that multiple times
so how are we able to fly but not ancestors?
Ancestors COULD fly, but only once. One of your vault scholar ocs demonstrates this quite well, I believe

Do sky kids become sky adults?
do you ?
Y’all, we ain’t Google
i’m just asking questions for your guy’s fan theories / opinions
i know u not google
Oh no not using this as google lol just thought of that
We are better than Google, we are lorechat, and can confuse in a variety of new and fun ways
does anyone know the speed of a skykid when they’re flying?
fast
how make crab soup easy step by step instructions?
frickin zoomin
different biology maybe, skykids are lighter than clouds and cant even go through them, i think they're built for flying compared to ancestors, plus ancetors have no wl (the ones we see ingame is a bug), and yeah with the boast thing aswell
Probably not, skykids are different to the spirits, and were sent with a specific purpose to guide the spirits back home.
I know @sharp lichen could answer this
i know there's at least one spirit memory where the ancestor is climbing
and another one where an ancestor is falling from a high height and needs to be caught by another to not get hurt
which supports the idea that they couldn't fly
No, but it's possible to work out in the office, with a stopwatch
there’s no way they go like 50 kilometers per hour, but I’m an avgeek and I’m curious lol
Sorry I don’t really know much of the lore of Sky’s spirits, so are they the people of sky that AREN’T sky kids?
so did krills used to be the big fluffy worm thing seen in forest caves?
Ancestor spirits ≠ skykids
same for elders for both of those
Ooh as an av geek, while it's days of feast, you can go into the office (based on a real place in california) and measure how long it takes to fly there, then divide that real world distance by the time and you have a rough speed
i think skykids are sillayyyy i think they’re skrunkly little guys
krill have been confirmed to be corrupted light creatures, but we don't know what kind
formal apology to baud, i forgot he was muted
Rip baud, until time is served 🫗
probably will. Can’t be too hard to calculate
i think skykids should have zoomies. They deserve it
Like that cat treat?
🚨🚨🚨 weewooweewoo ableism alarm
I'm sorry? I don't understand...
Huh? Sorry idk what’s going on either
I need to explain what I've just said but first I need to figure out how
if we're cringe enough maybe people will stop treating us like we know everything /j
more like how cats and other animals just have bouts of energy and they run and jump and zoom around
what happened to isle of dawn to make it a bare desert
We aren't allowed to call skykids automatons, as it implies they are somehow lesser beings.
They can be things with purpose and souls, just with a singular purpose, just not full on robotz
yeah we hard disagree on skykids being robots for alot of reasons
this will affect the trout population
also, on the robots point- it's something about robots being associated negatively with autistic people because of how we express emotions if at all
Ohhh.... I see, I'm sorry :p
I understand they aren't robots but I thought that was the easiest comparasion atm
For me that's bring a chibi
it's also about, as autistic people, being called robotic and treated as less than human bc we don't operate the way neurotypical society expects us to
Yeah, lorechat has a huge population of neurodivergent folks so we tend to have a knee-jerk reaction to the "no outward emotion" => "robot/golem" shortcut
In another way, Skykids not showing emotions the way neurotypical folks expects them to doesn't mean they don't feel things.
ngl as someone with aspergers i have never heard of this comparison, thats good to know
I'm truly sorry.
It's cool, the more you know, I didn't make the comparison at first either
you live and you learn yeah? (isn't that a sonic song)
it's okay to make mistakes, as long as you take the feedback you're given and change your behavior accordingly

lorechat did that to me many, many times and im very greatful for it because my god i was such an ignorant honkhead
Though the skykids being "subcreations" of the Megabird, possibly the Prince (not that little one), or the king is also a possibility, especially as they are connected closely to another mysterious figure, "the child of light"
are the skykids not the children of light??
Wellllll.......

sorry im thinking about remembrance guide being lamed's apprentice because of vela wheeeeeeeeehhh
OUGH AWWWWWW @rigid mural
How do you sketch these so quickly?
AUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH dies
huh!
brainrot
Hey lore chat, i was wondering what people were thinking of the spirits eye-mask. Is it damaged mask, is it actual spirit skin, is it spirit husk or darkstone, what is it?
That’s a good question! We’re thinking it’s like a scab of some kind, and their blood crystallized
tac did a really cool concept here!
this is what i think (same brain birdlem)
Oh interesting
Would that mean their blood is already dark or corrupted, or did that come from something external if it petrified?
playing splatoon and reading lorechat is not a good idea help
My instinct would say internal i think but idk alot of lote
We’re not sure. They seem to be a soldier from Wasteland, which has a lot of darkness, meaning darkness pollution in it wouldn’t be too farfetched. (That’s actually a good point, too)
Skykids crystallize when we lose a lot of light, so it might be the same deal there
for lack of evidence we dont know for sure but some think that if coming into contact with darkness the wounds crystalize
they probably would've gotten like a spear to the eye tho right if they're a war refugee
So, personal theory, which has many holes in it.
King & elders create big diamond, it goes boom, bad things happen, they get out of dodge, but a lot of ancestors don't.
The king tries to rectify the situation, but gets lost in the mire they created, splitting into a corrupted part, and light part while trying to return to The Light (orbit).
After the storm dies down paths begin to open and from somewhere (possibly The Void as we saw in Shattering) a child of The Light creates and sends skykids in their image, now protected and a mixture of darkness (darkstone) to protect, and light (the spirit) to guide. (this is us)
"i was a warrior like you, then i took the spear to the eye" /ref
so it might not be contact with darkness but I'm not sure how it would work
Yeah, and even if it was a cut or slash that could introduce corruption from the weapon
yaknow how humans in the past lace poision onto weapons to add extra lasting damage? that but with spears idk
something something Sunset did that
sinister coating
it could also just be environmental contamination - looking at how smoggy the area is, it's not hard for me to believe that, like smoke from a wildfire getting carried on the wind, darkness could find its way into just about anything, including open wounds
it could just be that their inner light crystallizes when it gets exposed to air
it does look somewhat like unlit darkstone tho... maybe darkstone is something like the solid form of light
What if the elders had a scroll?
Oo, thats a neat idea
when the elder is scrolling
wait can you elaborate on what you mean please? why a scroll?
There is that Abyss concept piece
Broken mask from earlier encounters, remaining eye is blue bc of light loss/dark pollution
That was a quote from skyrim, a part of the Elder Scroll series
ooo help alright, i only know the "finally awake" and "arrow to the knee" one

This concept art is really interesting to me too cause how do diamonds augment fighting strength
mean to dusk, full of poision
thinking of my hc for sunsets prostetics being able to give extra power if need be
STOP SIPPING THE POISION SALEM
Thinking about that artpiece you drew
Aren't there diamonds in most of the wasteland spears?
I'll have to go check the swords
do you know how little that narrows it down? /ref

oh
ehe
oh then I am also thinking about it
i giggle at teh png name i gave it
Now I'm just thinking of this
#lore-discussion-spoilers message
that just sent me into a backreading spiral lasting at least 15 minutes, thank you
I scrolled up and saw ‘does anyone know the flying speed of skids’ and got flashbacks to when we tried to calculate sky gravity by going to santuary and having our skids dive and then float down to try and calculate air resistance
It was fun honestly since I wasn’t one of the math people
I look away from lorechat for JUST 3 hours and I miss not only the announcement of Season of Depression but also the reveal of alasdair's vampirism AND vault confirmed to have british inhabitants. This chat really moves fast sometimes
Can I see? I don’t know the piece being referenced
Vampirism what now
Hold up what, I leave for a day there’s a new season announcement? This is like the only channel I visit
New Vault season, I can't get into detail but the spirit memories WILL make you cry
I’m not a vampire
alasdair fighting the allegations
Rarely I’m just here for the good lorechat vibes
You can't fool me
I barely play the game anymore if at all so, I just couldn’t take that candle run grind anymore
Fair enough, the grind can be exhausting
However it is a good game and I draw a lot for it, usually darker pieces though
I was actually an active player from flight-start of shattering so I think that’s a decent run lol, I just imagine my skid is resting in the stars for now
That's quite an amount of time to be active tbh, although I've seen people with completely insane levels of dedication. I remember seeing one dude that had done full AC runs every single week since belonging and didn't miss one
yeah i get that
I was dreams-flight (technically the first day of abyss but im not counting it) and came back for the aurora concert
ah i haven't shared it here cuz of the content but i can share in dms if you want though it does contain ||stabbing||
i have a lot of feelings about the aurora concert it brought some of my friends back as well
I was semi active during end of flight to end of abyss and I took a break after that, but ever since performance I've remained mostly active save for small break in between seasons
Worth mentioning I didn't start doing actual CRs until very recently
(Spoilerd for eye wound) Here’s an idea for how something like wounded warriors scar could happen on accident (clearly I have never animated before left alone someone holding a spear so sry for poor quality)
on accident
they look like a soldier. I don’t think it was an accident, bud
Well i mean the corruption part lol
ooooo yayaya i can see that happening!
as someone who just read #news,
SEASON OF LORE, SEASON OF LORE, SEASON OF LORE
🎉🥹
I am so pumped right now normal about this you have no idea.
they all are but yes im excited
lore discussion eatin good this season
I'm really late but to kingdom come means a state of total ruin
So what theories about the Aurora season did I miss? I'm on the Chinese server so everything's a bit late and I haven't been active here for a while
you cannot eat candle oh no
So like any theories abt the season?
Yeah
Spill rn
Well, what I got from the memories was that Wayfarer lost a parent at a young age (sorry for being obvious) but the vibe that I'm getting from it was that they were running from something, seeking refuge? The switch trailer showed that something happened in isle that caused it to turn into a desert (probably Eden aftershock), so maybe it was right after that?
Miner was really confusing, I honestly have no idea what happened, but it seemed like they were suffering an earthquake/rockwall while in the caves? Seems to happen to miners a lot on this game (weeping miner as well). I'm not entirely sure what new information is to be learnt here, probably because I'm not looking hard enough lol
Warrior is interesting because it lets you glimpse the citadel before it fell to ruin, and also implies that mantas were used as race animals? Am I getting that right?
Hello everyone! I had a quetsions and got redirected here. My question is if there's a sort of document/analysis/etc of the overall sky lore I could read? I've played this game a lot but I've never really taken the time to learn the lore.
There's a Google doc, I can try to find the link? Idk if it's in the pins
If you could that would be great!
Sorry I forgot to separate them

Back to this, Seed was really confusing. There were spears, which krills don't use as far as I'm aware of. It could've been during the battle? To me, it almost seemed like the Seed's enemies felt compassion for them, and helped them instead of attacking, and they escaped the krill together
Can anyone fill me in on other theories about this season? Especially about what sort of role Aurora plays in the world of Sky, and about the concert, cuz I haven't seen that yet
Pings appreciated
Oh ok, thank you both!
it's likely that the war that occurred in Wasteland's battlefield was between ancestors. while the krill were their common enemy, there were at least two sides that fought each other.
There's kinda two 'factions' among the spirits, the more nature loving ones like Flight crew and ones who captured and used light creatures. Very likely it was a clash between those two groups
Makes the most sense if you think of Aurora asthe manifestation of The Light. She's helped guide spirits and presumably sent us skykids down to the Kingdom to clean up whatever mess the spirits left.
Thank you all!
LORE SEASONNNNN IM SO HAPPY
the seed part of auroras concert was a little confusing to me. what was the blue light that was coming down from the sky? spirits ?
I wonder if the blue lights were meant to represent one of these:
“But darkness came, and the stars fell…”
“Suffocate me
So my tears can be rain
I will water the ground where I stand
So the flowers can grow back again”
Cyan light, which is known to control / embody wind
Me: seeing the picture in #news
Me : "please memory crystals please memory crystals please memory crystals"

Am I the only one seeing the resemblance between one of the teaser spirit and the Beetle Mask ancestor from the Switch trailer?
does anyone have a idea of what the timeline of seasons would be until the shattering of eden. ( I’m not sure if this makes sense or if the timeline theories was just canon)
The only resemblance is that they are both scholars, but I don't think it's necessarily the same person
Despite being shown as blue, I have two similar ideas
It's a memory, so they appear as blue, but they are actually shards landing, during the cathastrophy of the original Eden Eruption/Explotion
Same, they are shards, but we see see them in the lighter version instead of red and darker. I took inspiration from another one idea. Someone once here said (and I had the occation to read it despite the little time I can spend here lately) it could be that we see the memories through the eyes of lightcreatures, so maybe they see a mantas while in truth that could be a krill (but butterflies cannot see the corrupted version). So my idea could be that we see the blue lights (which in my eyes is purer and not an evil symbol) instead of seeing those as red lights (evil/angry/corrupted/painfully screaming lights)
I know, that could just be a similar attier of scholars, after all even the Shushing spirit have the vault headress on top of the mask (spirit on the right side)
Still... I wish it could be a beetle mask, maybe not exactly as the trailer one, after all there can be twins as we know already
&
A lot of Vault scholars do, so I don't understand
Indeed, alot of them have this long and slimmer headress, but by comparing Lightseekers and Remembrance preview posters I see that the upcoming one having one whole mask, like the Beetle one, instead of a mask and a headress
Or at least from this promotion content it looks like just one mask
ive never seen this art before
doublefives hat is even bigger i love it
This is the promotional artwork used for the season during its launch
Me neither, I was googling Sky CoTL Beetle Mask and instead I got this gem
I can't get out of my head the similarity I pointed out yesterday between Wings of Aurora and WLs/Sky Kids murals
#lore-discussion-spoilers message
So I put together this poorly made GIF , as if the WL drawing was the first phase which transittion into her open wings ... And in midway it turned out I sort of rotated it (mirrored actually) to simulate the same sequence us Sky Kids get when upgrading wedges
You shall return to forms thought lost.
You have no choice, salted man
(also good gif !)
Incredibly late, but happy new year, Lore! Participating in this chat has been so much fun and really elevates my love for Sky and its players! May you all have years filled with joy, safety, and peace!
IM SO EXCITED FOR THE NEW SEASON LORE LORE LORE
Can confirm
tac where are you i need to congratulate you on winning the ss challenge
Do you think mantas raise their babies or just leave them to survive?
(maybe they lay mermaids purses somewhere attached to light mushrooms)
Mantas are found flying in flocks, so I’d imagine young mantas would accompany their parents growing up. They could leave on their own if they want to since we do see solo mantas in places (Forest, Wasteland pre-krill)
Help- hi ty, I didn’t expect to win 💀💀💀
Which one is yours? If it is the first one in topleft corner, well... you had already thanked TGC in that screen 🙃
I think they're thanking iydll for the congratulations
you are so funny!
I mean, in the news pic with all winning screens, the first one, whoever submitted it, rn somehow is once again thanking with their tears of joys 🙃
Is there a consensus on how the Sky Kingdom fell? Like was it an immediate collapse on all fronts or was there an initial blast, followed by the survivors gradually dying off?
More likely the latter. See this write-up: #lore-discussion-spoilers message
There was also the war
So is sky cotl basically set in the future where us (sky children) are trying to restore civilization
Or is that just a certain theory
i was thinking of how you meet with the elders at the end of each realm and i’m not sure if it’s a one time thing where u give them the light or you could meet them anytime and! with the idea of meeting with them as you please, i like to think of a skykid that always talks to the vault elder similar to how a parent asks “how was school” after they pick you up lol. then when they wave goodbye, the elder watches the skykid leave to go to eden and their smile fades a bit (sry if this is incoherent i can only type w one hand rn)
It doesn't seem like we're trying to "restore" civilization, a good chunk of the game is dedicated to showing how unsustainable and sinister civilization was and how that led to it's downfall
Any specific theories on the creation of Krill in relation to Treasure Reef and the Abyss?
Something to do with power diamond manifacturing. We don’t know how darkness corrupted light creatures, we just know that it very likely does somehow.
Skybot (or whoever is behind it) (an amazing source for theories, I know) once proposed that some ancestors might've tried to use krills as weapons at some point, which isn't completely out of the question since krills do have a lot of parallels to Journey's war machines, and the ancestor war did seem brutal and cruel enough that it wouldn't be out-of-character for ancestors to try using krills
Skybot (and whoever is behind it) isn't a great source for accurate theories
I know, but I think the idea itself holds enough merit on its own to be considered a theory
Just think about it, ancestors were already using light creatures for their own benefit and tinkering with dangerous forces beyond their control, inferring that they might've tried (and failed) to use krills in the war isn't a stretch
krills at least seem to have been used in the war efforts, as indicated by the Seed of Hope song/quest
I doubt the krill in Seed of Hope's spirit memories were used by any particular side. it seems there were sides that were fighting already and the krill showed up later, like scavengers taking advantage of the ruin.
also possible
either that the krill were unleashed onto these areas to keep the attackers out after all their regular forces have fallen in battle
ooor the krill might just be drawn to everything that is ruin and death
they certainly don't seem like creatures that can be controlled, per se
Do you think one side, or neither anticipated the krill? I mean, if the ancestors were light beings, the krill would have attacked both sides. They would have not known friend from foe..
The Dragons are described to hunger for light. So I assume they will attack anything with light.
Honestly, I think krill are too dangerous to harness, control, or use as weapons in any way. They’re akin to rabid animals. You don’t want to be risk being near them, you just want to get as far away as possible.
Eden is Ascestor made, and some of you speculate it was currupted and started spewing out darkness.. some people refer to this as the "Storm" what if eden corrupted while the battle took place... causing a massive wave of darkness and the krills took both sides by surprise..
to be fair, 'too dangerous' has never stopped someone from using a weapon of war
that is true
The difference with krill is that they’re equally likely to attack you as they are what you’re directing them towards.
Yeah and the big question is.. where do krill come from?
Do they come from the darkness? or were they corrupted creatures of light?
Are there any paintings of them on the walls?
krill are confirmed corrupted creatures (give me a minute to pull Jenova Chen's quote), likely corrupted light creatures since those are the types of creatures around. we just don't know what they used to be before corruption or how they were corrupted
Are Sky kids creatures of light? Also why do we wear masks? 🤔
I dont remember if there is a paiting of krill in Enchantment mural, but for sure there is one in the final Prophecy mural, inside the Caves of Prophecies (even if I quite see a cloud in the corridor, fire/orange light, shaped like a krill)
both the Cave of Prophecies and Forgotten Ark murals have one krill each on them, though they are much more realistic/detailed than the other light creatures. I recall one theory that suggests that krill were so new or foreign to the ancestors that there wasn't type to stylize them cos not everyone would know what they would look like at the time.
skykids have light, so they are beings of light. they wear masks probably to mimic the ancestors, though we don't know why the ancestors wore masks – likely a cultural thing. we know animal masks are linked to jobs thanks to a quip from Ash.
OOOH MY GOSH
THE LIGHT CREATURES WERE ATTACKING THE ANCIENTS?! Well. At least, that is what it seems in this concept...
Not sure if this concept is still cannon or no, but it seems pretty like it.
It's Tom Zhao, seems it's been debated on here many a times.
Concept art is never cannon it’s a concept for a reason yet some small things can carry over but the timeline here has been changed
It’s most likely not, there’s not really evidence in live for most of these things. Unfortunately, this piece gets parroted as canon a lot.
Yeah, but it's suuuch a good timeline. xD Im aware alot of changes have happened yeah..
Cuz it's ancestors vs ancestors, not really light creaactures vs ancestors. like in this timeline.. so it's def different.
Yeah I agree it’s interesting to think about, but it’s just also good to know it’s no longer cannon in the game for how much was changed🎉
Bro I’m the one in the top right, was just thanking idyll since they asked
didn’t even think I would win and posted way more screenshots for the fun or it
Are ancestors fighting each other?
I know.. "But Aurora isn't cannon! It's just a collab!" as some people would say.. but..
Is it not? Honestly, I wouldn't throw it out, quite yet..
it's so veague tho it's hard to tell.
I think the people who say to throw out collab seasons entirely without thinking critically about how each part of them would fit into the lore are very silly and should not be listened to, honestly
I’d say aurora herself as a character isint fully cannon (like folks saying she’s the queen and goddess of sky, I don’t think they would do that in a collab season out of nowhere with no buildup) but I’d the stories she tells us are definitely are.
Seeds memory is cool because of the cyan light which makes me wonder of who’s sending it and why
As soon as Warrior of love came up and i saw them trapping animals and I thought of Abyss with all the trapped light creatures.. and im like "They hinting something. and it's not just the song.."
Well I wouldn't consider aurora the charactar fully cannon unless TGC wanted that to be.
Jokes on Megabirb Incarnate xD
Only Reason I'd joke about Aurora being megabirb coming down, is cuz she voices the main songs in sky esp orbit.. xD
Ya that too! Plus the murals in abyss aswell, showing mantas being used in construction for diamonds same for laughters memory in prairie gathering light! I really think theyre capturing manta light to power the diamonds we see everywhere in sky and stuff
Like to me I see it evolving from: we’ll just use light from roaming mantas to this isint efficient, we need to capture them and ect
I forgot who mentioned it but i love the idea that Aurora is really just a Voice, manifested by the four spirits telling their story
Same! You might be thinking of Pines message if I’m right
Aurora, as she is shown, is ultimately just a storyteller
And as such, her stories and images are certainly glorified and fictionalized to some degree (especially the very abstract first song), but her stories are certainly based on true events
Same brain I completely agree
🤝
I just badly wanna know more loooorrreee D:
Same, yet sky’s storytelling tells it in bits and pieces, which can get a tad tiring cuz it’s just crumb after crumb trying to piece it into something more but it does keep you you on your toes
sometimes we get bigger stuff though like abyss murals personally because I was wondering if mantas were used for darkstone production for a long time
honestly, I love the vague and piecemeal storytelling everywhere
it's what I already loved about journey
yeah, i can see how it can be frustrating to want more answers to the many questions that pop up with every new information, but it's nice to have something to chew on and think about
just needs more crumbs to eat
Yeah true! And I think it’s the best way to go about for how sky progresses with its seasons. A lil crumb to add to the pile the more you look into and it’s not just info dumped to you
I was looking back in the 1st Album for Sky and I noticed in both songs, "The Cloud Messenger" and "The Light Beyond" in Launch Edition there's a different voice than AURORA, and I feel like this is the REAL voice of The Light, and I feel like since AURORA got her own Spirit/Body ingame, then who was the original voice of The Light, and why were they replaced with someone else. Like, is AURORA another helper to The Light like the Elders, and if so, who is this mysterious person or thing that now Governs the Sky Kingdom above? And why did this Light let AURORA become the new voice?
Does our sacrifice make any progress to fixing Eden?
I just came to conclusion that the old voice for The Light, before AURORA, might have been the Queen, because think about it, if all the Elders used to Govern their own lands, then the one that governed them all must have been the Queen, and I'm saying is that, what if we were wrong about there being a King, instead there was a Queen all along, because think about it, we never see the Ruler of the Sky Kingdom EVER, and the only image we get is a Constellation picture of the Ruler, but it doesn't show explicitly what the Ruler looks like, all we know is that they wear a crown and gonverned the Sky Kingdom and the Elders, nothing more, nothing less. So quite possibly The Light may be the Queen watching over the Sky Kingdom in Orbit, not showing their Spirit/Body because what if, The Queen is The Constellation we see in the End Credits, AND when the Credits show that last candle, what if The Queen was seeing The Sky Kingdom through the Candle. All I'm saying is, there could've been a Queen instead of a King.
Is the wiki a reliable source for lore?
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I think the wiki is not official
yea, it's not and there isn't a lot of non-gameplay focused content on there
i was doing eden earlier and just noticed this area below not a good screenshot cuz i panicked lol but is this the area where we met the vault elder? now im confused how the vault and eden area works/looks like
Yes thats vault temple!
hey yall! im not sure if this has been discussed before (im not on here super frequently lol) and i was thinking, what if krills were meant to be harvesting energy from light creatures, and then that energy is processed through the factories and sent through the pipes from gw to eden, powering the crystal
krills attack both us and the mantas, which i think indicates they're trained to detect light to consume, and also when we're spotted the krill's spotlight turns red, like the eden crystal
i think the krills were created as the people of sky/the king got more greedy, inventing more ways to collect light to feed the crystal
(also side note, i do think krills used to be the whales, but through some combination of pollution and the peoples' corruption, they became what they are now)
Only now I remember a curious behaviour I witnessed the other day.
From a PlayStation my friend couldn't see the 2 Peaceful Crabs in Sanctuary (near the turtle island) as peaceful! They attacked him and I could spot even a couple of dark dust/spores on them
Could it be that we unlock their peaceful behaviour with as a side effect of the quests? Like, we brought harmony to Sanctuary and they finally witnessed it
Hi ! do you know how skykids appear in the world of eden, in lore?
One theory is that we witness the memory of the first skykid fall in Isle of Dawn, Stargazer's memories (follow-me emote). Pretty much like we do fall as stars in HomeSpace at Birth/Rebirth
Once or twice I've seen screenshots of skypeople landing on those altars, not easy cause it's an OOB (Out Of Bound area). And there is a visible change in sizes of those tombstones.
So one of the interpretations is that the one in Eden Castle is the original one, in its full size. Meanwhile the one we see in Vault floor 6/7 is a memory by Vault Elder.
After all every floor in Vault is slowly fading into a surreal mindscape, from floor 1 (unlit) and floor 2 (lit) to floor 3 and higher you we witness more and more magic. Like walls dissembling and the floating magic.
Vault of Knowledge is a realm linked to night and dreaming. But a bit memories too, by going up we can see abit of the 6 realms in all of the floors. Sand in floor 1, floating building in floor 3 and 4 (recalling respectively Forest and Valley's architectures).
It even seems the upcoming season, which MIGHT be memories themed, should be located in Vault
Fellow lorekids, I need your sharp eyes.
Please, tell me I'm not the only one to see the Travolta meme 🫲
🫱 in this idle animation of Aurora Imprint inside the Silent Meditation Room
Vault is just a fading memory
Oo that could be cool, though with the depictions of krill showing the reason for the descruction of the ark and that they’re confirmed corrupted light creatures and not born that way, I’d light to think they’re natural and attack mantas and skykids to feast on light. Darkness plants seem to latch onto light in a way too with butterflies appearing when it’s burnt and the mantas that are trapped in forest so I’d say it’s not to far off
Hey it’s best to add a flash/epilepsy warning on that because it includes the spam call glitch, which can actually affect folks with epilepsy
So, how canon is that one Switch trailer?
debatably so. here’s an explanation by cat salem: #lore-discussion-spoilers message
youre talking aboutt animation right-
I put the warning now, but sadly there is no other way to see that Auror Imprint clearly without flashes. No prop or spells are allowed inside the Silent Meditation Room, which makes even harder to see that animation/motion
I wish I knew how to activate the Metal Glitch, that could give a good insight
I was in Eden and just noticed that door? I'm wondering what it is.. really hope that there will be an explanation or story behind it and that it's not just a simple decoration
I think I saw that door in a video of Light Awaits (Old Beta, pre release) I think it might just be an easter-egg/souvenir of that version
Has anyone else noticed that the skid’s wings in tapestries r always pointed up but the actual capes r always down
Just something I thought abt nothing big really
The one in murals is the WL symbol!
Really?…
Only now I remember a curious behaviour I witnessed the other day.
From a PlayStation my friend couldn't see the 2 Peaceful Crabs in Sanctuary (near the turtle island) as peaceful! They attacked him and I could spot even a couple of dark dust/spores on them
Could it be that we unlock their peaceful behaviour with as a side effect of the quests? Like, we brought harmony to Sanctuary and they finally witnessed it
Does anyone have a moth to prove or disprove this weird behaviour of peaceful crabs?
i think its just background decor, wasteland elders temple has a bunch of doors that are sealed so i think its just to give more of the immersion that eden used to actually be a castle or building of sorts
So is just did the whole wind paths shenanigans quest thing and noticed that you can go to multiple areas with them, like Forgotten Arc, somewhere in Valley, Hidden Forest Caves, Starlit desert etc but they seem to imply that, and maybe I'm just a little slow, that the Kingdom of Sky basically wraps around a massive mountain. Maybe I'm just dumb I dunno
Here's the complete map (from the map shrines) for reference, by Magica, it's more like the Wind Paths are right at the center
#questions-and-help message
Though I'm not sure if it's accurate? I know there's another map too. Someone else feel free to correct me
It’s thought there may be some inaccuracies fue to style but otherwise it’s the best map we got
Nvm it is I checked my shrine
That makes sense!
Oh I'm so sorry for the ping
your name was cut off on my screen
So the Sky map implies that the kingdom is on a massive hollow mountain, amy confirmation or theories on that?
Hallow I wouldn’t say, i just think it’s a kingdom built around the mountain, never really shown going inside a mountain anywhere else besides the pnr entrance
What? How in the world did you get the idea that the entire kingdom is built on a hollow mountain?
Not totally hollow but certainly hollow enough one sec
So this is magica's map and you can see in it that the wind paths lead you to a variety of places that are nowhere near each other, not just on the map but also in-game, such as the starlit desert and the caves in Hidden Forest. To me the the only way that would work is if the windpaths go partially through the mountain allowing for short cuts, as well as the the whole map likely wrapping around a mountain, with us going down again at certain points on different sides of the mountain, said mountain being massive btw with giant holes.
or rather the kingdom spreads over a variety of geographic terrains, among mountain ranges or in the valleys below it, and the wind paths go around mountains where there are some
if the kingdom was completely on or in a hollow mountain, how would the sky be visible?
Its not totally hollow, but it could have hollow parts and passage ways
I mean there's visibly several mountains as well as forests and beaches
- don't ping me, says so in the name.
- more of Sky would be underground when the world we explore very visibly is not.
Oh I'm sorry I totally forgot, I'll keep that in mind next time
i wonder.. how exactly were the trials created? why do they all appear to take place in a limbo state? why were they made?
ive been thinking about it lately
I kind of wonder... what exactly are these clouds? How do they repel Sky Kids? Why do they recharge us?
i headcanon that clouds recharge us bc of the way light interacts with water, basically all the tiny water droplets in the clouds are holding a bunch of absorbed light
as for what the windwalls are (aside from a game mechanic) and why clouds will push us up, i have no idea. maybe - we do see the clouds are usually in motion, maybe the wind that holds them together also pushes us? idk im not a meteorologist
skykids must be pretty light to fly, thus wind would be an effective force pushing against them.
What are the theories regarding Golden Wasteland? Like what was its function? Was it a city? The industrial sector? Both? Did it contain the military? If so, why did the ancestors have a military? Were there other Ancestor settlements they fought against? Was it to surpress or keep control over the population by the king/upper class? Did the ancestors have an upperclass? Is the Switch trailer canon? If yes, does that mean that ancestors likely also lived far away from the kingdom/mountain/mountain ranges? I mean the travelling spirits also imply it so mayhaps. Could it be that they perhaps still exist far away from Sky in the immaterial world? Or did ehatever happened to Eden happen to all of them?
You’re asking a lot in one go.
Switch trailer: #lore-discussion-spoilers message
Golden Wastrland seems to be the industrial hub for the kingdom. See: #lore-discussion-spoilers message
re: travelling spirits seem to exist for our sake, in the skykid era, though it does imply that ascended spirits can descend if they so please.
most ppl consider GW was the center of darkstone production, so industrial sector i suppose. ive also seen that it maybe used to be part of valley before all the. Stuff. happened. and it became factory town
there definitely seem to be warrior spirits, if GW held the military i wouldnt be surprised. as for why they had one, well.... we know there was a war between ancestors, likely over the production of darkstone and it requiring mistreatment of light creaturs.
im pretty sure that there has been speculation of different social classes in the old kingdom, yes.
switch trailer is debatably canon?
and yeah, it seems like ancestors lived in all the realms in the past, even if sometimes it was only temporary.
lore chat, give me a really elaborate over explanation of why stretching guru’s eyes are so creepy…
Models funky
built different
They’re watching from the shadows, waiting for the chance to strike
I just realised that a voyager existing at all and ushering towards the Sky kingdom implies that the travellers, even if originally from the kingdom, are coming back from elsewhere implying the existance of somewhere outside, feeling really dumb now. I mean outside the realms btw, beyond the Isle of Dawn
they are just a little bit silly is all
they didnt sleep well 😔
also yes! ive been wondering about that 🤔 i know we likely wont get an answer anytime soon, if ever (the game is focused on this kingdom after all) but its fun to think about.. what were those other kingdoms like? why were people leaving? was it a push or a pull to our sky kingdom? we can only speculate
Do wr have an approximation of the Forgotten Ark btw? Like was it before, during or after the main collapse of the kingdom?
hmm.. i would assume it would be during or after, otherwise wouldnt the ark have been recovered?
All maskless ancestors look like that to some extent iirc
I wonder if lighting up each other and revealing each others features might be related to knowledge and/or "enlightenment" in game. Like, in order to see the features of an other sky kid you need to have shared candle light so I wonder if thats basically how you reveal "knowledge" about yourself, enlightening each other about surface level things such as appearances. And with candles, when you buy stuff from ancestor spirits what if the ancestor spirit is sharing with you the specifications/knowledge of/about an object, clothing article, spell or hair-do? And Sky kids are able to change their appearances accordingly with the new knowledge that that ancestor has shared with them. I dunno, just thinking I guess. The enlightenment themes in the game are interesting.
i headcanon that the reason skids dont show cosmetics till theyre lit is the same reason you have to unlock chat - their bond needs to be strong enough and its strengthened with light.
when you share candles, it creates a temporary bond strong enough for you to see each other, and if you use white candles, then it gets even stronger and makes the bond permanent
the enlightenment thing is interesting tho! you may be on to something 👀
No yes I agree! I think yhe bond is also an important part of this knowledge sharing, as its information/enlightment on a topic that you have to share voluntarily with someone, and the more of a bond you form with someone, be it fellow sky kids or ancestor spirits, the more knowledge you share
one thing i noticed recently is that sky kids wings or capes don't cast a shadow whenever you're flying, dont know if its just not rendered into the game but i like to think maybe the capes are made of light🤔 mainly cause to even get one you have to accept winged light LOL
it might be both at the same time
maybe🤞
I see it as the cape is just a manifestation of the ability to fly. The cape can drastically change shape (abyss capes, shattering capes, performance, Aurora capes, more but I can’t remember right now) all have drastically different shapes then the base game capes yet still function and allow us to fly.
Additionally, when in air trial, it IS possible to use the flight toggle without having a cape or access to any WL. This suggests to me, at least, that flight is tied to bodily moments such as the arms in order to fly. In beta, for a time (it was a bug) everyone got the invisible cape for free and you were able to see the base flight animation without hindrance. Aka you could see how a Skid’s bodily movements allow them to take off clearly
I really adore when other Sky kids really lean towards the enlightenment aspect of the game.
There are so many different ways to enlightenment and self-discovery that Sky leaves so open to interpretation.
After some of my most recent lore hunting in game I realized I see a connection as a journey of a Sky kid to the path Bodhisattva in the school Mahayana Buddhism.
Mahayana Buddhists(unlike Vajrayana and heravada) wish to become enlightened to stay within the cycle of life to essentially be a vessel to help others better themselves so they may become enlightened. So a Sky kid goes through Eden to be reborn and stay within the cycle of life to continue helping lost spirits.

(This is absolutely just my theory
)
I think sky says it's a game about love and compassion so that could be part of the motifs of lighting each other with candles that you take out of the core of your being
that sort of... letting yourself be vulnerable
Yes!! Community and growing with each other at our own pace :3
Look at that hat, Stretching Guru is not a Real Boy 🤥. They don't have strings, but it's clear they are a puppet. The only reason you don't see the long nose is they cannot speak anymore 👻
Pinnocchio joke aside, legacy model from old Season of Gratitude (one of the first seasons)
Well, if you ask me Isle of Dawn is the outer rim of the Kingdom, with Isle Temple being the doorway/customs office. Plus the Switch Trailer or the Animation Teaser, or maybe even the shipwreck contemt, seems to implying travelling far away, maybe even trading routes to other locations
I think the cape is just an embodiment of the ability to fly and even stretched arms are just a habit, but skids dont actually need it to do that. Maybe they have minor levitation/gravitational powers which has the side effect of letting the cape move without the use of arms/hands. A further example is when any skykid upgrade their wingpower/wedges, they radiate so much energy that self levitate for a while
Their capes are made of light, specifically winged light, like the rest of their cosmetics which also don’t cast a shadow.
In the concert, there is a line of ancestors travelling through Dawn over mountains, so perhaps the shoreline we know of in Dawn used to be further away from the sea before something happened.
are the krill corrupted creatures of light or are they made of darkness?
do you think it's possible to heal the crabs?
I know in this poem from shattering for the krill memory
It could be seen that they're mimics of creatures that exist but are their dark counterpart.(my personal take)
I know a few lore hunters have mentioned that a dev said that krill are corrupted creatures(I unfortunately, do not have the links or photos for that proof
)
I think everything in the world can be healed with the right guidance and care :3
crabs included
yes
i'm very much on board with the theory that krills are corrupted whales
hmmmm thank you for sharing the poem! it does seem to suggest they are a distorted reflection of creatures of light, in which case there must be other distorted reflections. like the light mushrooms in hidden forest could be like the darkness mushrooms you burn? not sure the correct terms
I love whales I wish we got to see them more
like on the map theres drawings of both whales and krills and they're like the same size and they look similar
i wonder if we don't see many whales bc most became krills?
you know how people have "sky houses or whatever" mine is whale memory /hj
on the subject of the crabs, we know there are nonaggressive ones with the pleaful parent. because the spirits name is parent, maybe they raised the crabs from birth?
fire makes crabs peaceful iirc or just light in general
my impression of the whales was that there used to be more but they're endangered or extinct. maybe they became creatures of darkness or they died?
@untold notch when exposed to fire they change colors quickly, to me it looks like the same reaction as when they are going to attack you
have you tried holding them there for a while? i haven't so i don't remember the specifics but the crabs getting cooked at pleaful's bonfire are peaceful
oh really?? i never thought of it that way. i thought they were thankful you get them off the fire, but it's true they don't attack you after having been there...
its probably both
that would track with how we burn off the darkness with the shards and mushrooms. exposure to light cures it.
let us cure the dragons with light /j
it seems like most crabs prefer living in dark places, with the exception of the couple island crabs in sanctuary. maybe they are able to retain their original form because they are naturally creatures of darkness in a way? there is no light present to be corrupted?
their infection is like little blobs on them, rather than completely distorting their shape
that would suggest that they could be cured if we could remove the infection
i wanna but unforuntately they seem to have a lot less uh. body than whales do
yeah it looks like not much is left of the krill underneath the darkness
what if krill were like. whales that are so far into corruption it's nothing but bone underneath
i think you're right
have we ever seen a krill be defeated? there was a darkness monster in the treasure island place but i don't remember exactly what happened to it, only that it was defeated. maybe it was just trapped again?
it would make sense if we couldn't get rid of darkness because there has to be balance but we aren't living in harmony either, we can't coexist. i don't completely know the lore, but i remember hearing something about how spirits let the darkness in, like it was from a different dimension?
it would make sense if we aren't meant to be occupying the same space
anyway my point was i want to be able to rehab crabs XD
good thoughts! near to think about :0
we need to build a crab sanctuary in some caves somewhere
i hope we get to help them someday
season of crabs
save the craaaaabs
i can totally see a spirit that studies crabs. observant helper or something.
from whom we finally learn how to put crabs rightside up again XD
In Seed of Hope's memory, we can see krills being killed by ancestors ! They seem to just fall down on the ground.
hi lore chat i got some really nice headphones for christmas, which means i can hear sky’s beautiful audio so much better. and i noticed something i haven’t heard before- a heartbeat
any lore reason for that? i know that you definitely hear a heartbeat when you’re on your last legs in eden, but i was just doing my cr in prairie and heard it in the background. just curious cuz i never noticed it before!!
during your cr, were you holding hands or riding piggyback with someone else? if so, then that's when you hear the heartbeat outside of Eden aside from dying.
i wonder...who is giving us the "light tributes" when we forge our candles?
we are the ones forging candles, we have been collecting the light to make them. who else would it be other than us?
i only figured it was something/someone else since they descend to us. idk
also have to reconcile whether some things are more gameplay mechanics, like the currency system.
yeah, ig im just looking too hard into it
but i finally put headphones on for this game and realized even butterflies make little chirps! aahh so cute
bringing this down, i'm super curious as to what yall think
What if all the Spirits, regardless of their stance of war/fighting/weapons, were taught some form of self-defense?
I was inspired by Mandolorian Culture
eyeballed a quick height chart between a taller skykid, vault elder, and forest elder bc i was wondering if the forest elder would be too tall to walk on the bridge lol
this is all dependent on if the heights are to be taken at face value and if the elders have a corporeal form that can walk around in their realms (i feel like they can bc the isle elder is seen in the aurora concert)
anyways i really like their height differences
Wait
WHERE IS ISLE ELDER IN CONCERT?!?!
yes!!! during runaway when u fly to the isle temple entrance they’re standing there
makes note to go and check
hi
Megabird?
You should see the height difference in the oob area from vault. I don't have a clear image
First time here
WHY ARE THEY SO SMALL…
Maybe because their powers are fading or a fraction og what they used to be. It striked me how tall they aren in the Memory Void and maybe that's a possible interpretation
Or maybe those memories in the void are not from our POV, but from a small creature. Thus the sizes are proportionally bigger, not just the Elders, but the whales and krills too!
I'm pretty sure Jellyfish can grow as much they want, but now I crave for the Crab Memory
there are also the flying darkplants to check there
Just wondering, but is there any lore behind the default cosmetics?

After fishing so much trash from Village of Dream's ice rink, it's no wonder why The Ancestors died
You mean the mask or the capes?
The only theories I can remember are that capes may have been used as symbol of wealth/achievement of some sort, while about masks there are Elders helpers wearing the same mask as their leader/"employee".
Beside the simple fact each defualt Elder Mask (not talking about the shielding masks) reproduce respectively something related to the Elder. Depicting:
- Boat
(cause Dawn Elder was a ferryman in Old Beta) - Pot

- Diamond
(probably Forest Elder greatest invention) - ???

- Whale
(specifially a Whale
skull 💀 , check the skeleton in Forest graveyard) - Periodic Table
(or something, maybe a symbol of knowledge)
Valley is two bats crossed, after the ones the elders are holding, Vault is one of the lantern like projectors
The Vault constellation symbol seems to resemble a memory thingy on the shelves
- Fallen star
(old King's mask replaced with dark stone mask and offered to the Forest Elder)
Is Dark stone actually unobtanium from "Avatar"?
I think that's bc you took their height while they were sitting, they aren't that much smaller than Forest elder in the final cutscene
Edit: wrong message but still could be the angle of the shot ! Their headdress does make them look taller tho.
Idk if this is the right place to ask, but I would like some input from others. I've always assumed little ovals that sky kids have on their chest/stomach are important (even if not important to the lore, maybe just an important part of the design). So that leaves me with 2 questions. First question is... what could the oval be/represent? The second question is, why is it not visible on some of the new pants from Aurora? There are 3 sets of pants where it's only clearly visible when doing the sneak stance. Does that mean it's supposed to be there, or is it supposed to be hidden? I assume this is sort of a glitch, but does anyone have fun theories about it?
OH the oval represents the candle, sort of ! On pants where it's not covered, you will notice the oval dissapears from your chest when you take out your candle !
I like to think it means at least the flame of the candle comes from the inner light of skykids, hence why the ground around you in dark areas seems to be lit up by your body !
My headcanon is that skykids and ancestors are hollow and contain lights like living lanterns :]
True, but I was talkjng about the masks, like the one from Isle which seems ♉ while instead it should be a boat
This seems a neat interpretation
The cape mainly
The brown cape and the default hair
Any theory as to why all the sky kids have that when they are first born
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Interesting point.
What's your idea about that?
my thought is that along with the memories of eden (and how to make noise and walk), skykids are given a basic "blank slate personality" that they will alter as they grow. since the first few capes and hairs and such are so similar to the default, perhaps its a way to teach moths what the "typical" person looks like, so they dont have to start totally from scratch
yo, are we building a galaxy with the kids we bringing to Orbit or something or are the fallen souls (or whatever theyre called) just falling back down I get reborn?
i think we're already part of the galaxy, when we go to orbit we go to the center of it (from what i can tell)
What do you mean?
They explored Forbidden Forests and found Dark Stones. Forests could be a very big portal, vortex to another world - realm of darkness and corruption. Maybe darkness and light have been divided because they cannot be together, but the being was broken, and a crack appeared
I wonder if Oreo is from that other realm?
Another, but not that. It's from our world!
Forest doesn’t have to be a portal to another realm to have darkstone. There’s not evidence of that other realm of darkness and corruption existing.
Lately there’s a thought that darkstone is adjacent to fossil fuels, whereas it’s basically the crystallized remains of creatures, meaning that any place which has a lot of creatures would have darkstone as well.
Write me about the season of crabs (Season of Cackling), if you want to discuss it
I have a thought on darkstone ill share it in a min
Wow, ok!
This is basically how I believe corruption as a concept works. The few things we do know about corruption is that the creatures affected drip darkness particles and actively seek for light, we also know for a fact that krills corrupted state is not their natural state, and can infer the same for crabs, since we see non hostile ones in Sanctuary that do not drip darkness (they also exist in office however I am not counting those considering office is filled with easter eggs anyways). We can sort of assume water can also be "corrupted", there are certain instances of water that drain light, and it also affect plants, and though they aren't showed draining light, they are shown trapping mantas in a way similar to a venus flytrap, and they also release wax when burned, which are officially called "light particles", so I think we can assume that darkness plants also drain light from light creatures other than sky kid.
Darkstone behaves in an incredibly similar way as far as we know. It is capable of receiving light and using it to activate contraptions, as we can see most commonly in doors, however as we can see in red shard events, it can also have an activated state where it is actively and constantly draining light away from whatever touches. So what I believe happened to cause dark creatures and other corrupted things to become the way they are is that they were exposed to darkstone when they were not supposed to.
I think it would have started with darkstone being refined and potentially leaving remnants that ancestors deemed to not be useful. They then potentially discarded of those leftovers in places like the ocean, potentially even using Wasteland's pipelines to do so. Then, I believe that it reached the bottom of the ocean, where creatures like the uncorrupted krill used to live. The krills then start to eat darkstone, either because the pollution drove its actual prey away, leaving it without choice, or because it just mistook the stone for other animals (1)
Then after eating enough of it, it starts to accumulate in their system, forming those dripping particles we see on them today. That would explain why they thirst for light: because it is within darkstone's nature to absorb light. Think of it as them being affected by a parasite that alters their regular behavior. This would be what caused the krills to leave the naturally dark depths of the ocean (as we see them in Abyss) to go to the surface, seeking for light.
Corrupted water would be water in which darkstone has either dissolved in, or water that is completely polluted by a lot of micro pieces of darkstone, what is draining out light is not the water, it is the darkstone within it.
I think this even explains why, during Indifferent Alchemist's memories, they seem confused when they can't purify the water: they are used to cleaning water that is undrikable due to natural causes, they are not used to doing it to water polluted by darkstone
Yeah!
YEAH!
that message was 3 years ago?
i aint readin allat
yes!
I know I already mentioned this but I really love this theory! It explains a lot, including why a lot of the realms closer to sea level (Isle, Forest, Wasteland) got hit harder by the darkness than the ones higher up (Prairie, Valley.) It even explains why the rain in Forest hurts us but the groundwater doesn’t; maybe that rain got picked up over the polluted ocean!
It also explains why the sea creatures left the ocean in the first place
i got priorities
guess so yeah
ok
Something something chemicals in the water making the frogs gay /j
But seriously, it does make sense, cos a lot of pollutants irl dissolve into water yet continue to degrade their environment. Even if they aren’t as evident as a massive oil spill or dumped waste, dangerous chemicals irl do affect the environment they’re not supposed to be in and the creatures in that habitat.
Darkstone could be the same.
mmmm microplastics
Like yea there is merit to the “chemicals in the water make the frogs gay” quote as nasty as the person who said that is. hormones from sewage doesn’t get sifted out of water when treated before the water is rereleased into the environment. The levels of those hormones slowly rose over time to the point it now affects the secondary sex characteristics of amphibians.
Now I don’t think darkstone pollution is that minuscule and indistinct given the giant pipes in Wasteland that presumably dumped waste into its oceans, creating the dark water seas we have today.
just in my opinion.
What does this have to do with Sky?
a lot
they're in space thats the sky
Yeah it was probably a large scale deal, considering the state of Wasteland as well.
Now that I think about it, I wonder if the krill concentration in Eden was also due to the fact that it had the diamond as a giant beacon, so it was not only attracting light creature, but also the corrupted dark creatures that were seeking for light

Thinking about green tides where fertilizer in fields get transported to the sea with the rain & cause an invasion of algae at sea that let out toxic fumes when rotting on beaches.
Maybe something similar happened where something originally meant to enhance darkstone energy output ended up leaking out and causing damage to the ecosystem.
YO I LOVE THIS
Especially because OG krills don't need to have been light creatures for the corruption to be tragic, it's really cool ! Maybe they looked more like the Abyss Leviathan...
I like that you point out "active" and "passive" states, maybe you could trigger either with technology ?
What I'm getting at is that maybe active darkstone seeks out light to absorb, and krills can't help but try to absorb what gets in their searchlight.
If someone somehow managed to disable that switch triggering active state when light is detected, then maybe a krill would be unable to or unwilling to attack.
ohhh that's a really neat idea... i wonder if there could theoretically be a way to render krill passive without hurting them
Just an assumption: What do you think Trial of Void is like?
Trial of Fire?
i asked a question yesterday about how the trials were made, why they're in a limbo void, why they were made, ect
We don't really know; my theory is that it's on a deeper plane of existence ! Hence why it might look more alien.
nope
So an additional trial based on Void?
maybe a non-euclidean dimension?
yes
White
Non-euclidean just means that it doesn't go by the geometry you could find on a flat piece of paper, it's mostly a geometry thing !
Speaking of corrupting pollution, aren't the enchantment group utrerly fascinating in how the spirits were able to get rid of the corruption around the Forgotten arc once you bring them the light balls? It makes me wonder why the kingdom simply use magic in order to prevent pollution. Also what exactly was the pollution? Dead and decaying bodies or light animals drained dry of their light? Light Plants? Perhaps a combination of all waste products?
Yeah I’ve been wondering whether refining darkstone means making it absorb the amount of light you want
Oh my thoughts on pollution r right above if you’re interested, but the tldr is that I think it’s caused by discarded darkstone
wonder how alien it would be, but definitely not the same as Trial of Fire
My dream 😔
<@&600489743716712458>
Love loses 😔
What about the enchantment group tho? We can see that they're able to purify polluted water, or is that perhaps a later development? Also do you think that perhaps Golden Wasteland was at war with the Krill first and then were devestated by whatever happened in Eden, or do you think Eden first happened with those in Golden Wasteland desperately trying to fight back before starting to flee?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEB11PQ9Eo8 I mean this
The timeline is a bit hard to grasp, but I believe that corrupted creatures showed up first and then a war between ancestors started, with krills as sort of a common enemy. As for the enchantment group working it out later, I can’t say for sure, but we know it only happens after they’re dead, so I can at least assume they didn’t have the technique at the very least up to their deaths (since we find the arc in its devastated state at first)
Wait, how do we know there was a war between ancestors? Do point me into the general direction of a doc if there is one avaible XD. Also perhaps the enchantment crew crashed while trying to escape Golden Wasteland, perhaps with their knowledge if there was a war. Could they have died necause of whateber happened in Eden?
I think the most clear evidence for a war between the ancestors is from the AURORA concert. During The Seed, it seems pretty clear that a battle is happening between ancestors
edit for clarification: specifically the ending scenes after we dip below the clouds. We watch the battle occur in the memory
Wasteland battlefield area, Aurora quest 4 in battlefield Seed of Hope, Aurora concert song 4 The Seed
Yeah, specially during the seed you can tell that the arrows being thrown don’t seem to be aimed at the krills
Ancestors fighting
I wonder if there was some sort of war between those wanting to perserve nature and those who wanted to continue the pollution. Greed is very corrupting
I act think that use of darkstone could have been a motivator but there’s like a lot of possibilities Rn
it's hard to see where the ancestors are, but Man i wonder what they were fighting about
Also its been confirmed right that ancestors can age? Because in the Runaway Aurora song we can assume that the kid who is grieving the death of an older ancestor is the spirit with Aurora who is obviously an adult
all that remains is a silent call, is the earth colored red?... oh no that's the krill light ahead
that part of the song quest absolutely destroyed me omg
Also I've seen some mentions avout prophets being executed, like whats that all about??? Is that like fanon au shenanigans or is there speculation?
sorry you've what
That sounds like someone’s headcanon or fic
that’s a headcanon yea
Good cause I was really confused XD
some people speculate that the prophet students who went through the trials died there, but there's no real evidence to support that and it really goes against Sky's themes and pretty much everything we do know about the prophets
Some people like to pass their headcanon as canon and it causes a lot of confusion
Anyway so we now know that there for sure was a war but is there more speculation on the timeline of the treasure reef facility? And why the upper parts are rich in light and are clear while there are dark creatures down below in the facility
It seems the Treasure Reef facility was abandoned at some point for some reason — I personally get some strong “science gone too far” vibes so likely an experiment went haywire. Whether as a result of the activities that toook place there or it’s abandonment, the facility flooded.
The upper regions might’ve been the areas that were flooded and, being closer to the surface, exposed to more sunlight that made it a suitable environment for new light creatures and plant life to move in. The deeper regions were probably always underwater and lacked sunlight, where dark creatures domicile.
The Abyss crew likely came across Treasure Reef later when it was long since deserted and nature took over.
a question regarding an area in isle, the cave where the piggyback spirit stays-
what are the three balls of light on the pedestal for? why were they gathered? why were they put there?
and why did the one spirit with the jug on their back become consumed in darkness ?
¯_(ツ)_/¯
lightseekers things
Might have been a prototype for the boats used in isle
ooohhhh
Devs have stated before that there’s lore behind the Lightseekers but since it was an early season, there wasn’t a lot of story made explicit.
Voyager, the spirit with darkness plants, prob had something that’s been deemed “darkness sickness,” when ancestors are infected with darkness, but most info about that is fanon.
it's possible the cave served as some sort of light storage - if Piggyback's friend was being consumed by darkness, they might have thought to bring them to the place where light is stored so they'd have more access to light for healing (this is entirely speculative but seems possible to me)
ooh that's neat
i mean that makes sense to me
do the orbs on the boat heal us tho? i remember i checked a while back but 1. i dont remember and 2. it could have changed
i'd have to double-check tbh, i don't remember either
I don't think they do, no
So like, in the trailers all ancestor characters seem to have glowing eyes (yellowish/gold), implying that they, like Sky Kids, have an inner light. I wonder tho if their inner light was weaker and/or less accessible, making them dependent on other creatures ans plants to extract light energy from, them thus being unable to hanress their own light and powering the stones like we can
maybe like crabs? they have glowy eyes too, but theyre just little guys
Oh no its color specific, the dsrk creatures have a bluish-silvery light but the amcestors in the trailers have eye lights similar to the sky kids
We don't have an actual lake in Sky, do we? Not an iced rink or tiny/shallow waters/pond. An actual lake where we can swim and dive.
if its a dark creature why would it have light? /genq
i mean theres the treasure reef area but thats more like. part of the ocean than an inland lake
The closest thing to it was the updated pond in The Elevated Clearing / Sunny Forest, with the rescue baby jellyfish "quest" during Lazy/Summer Days
You can still swim down there
YeH, but I mean an actual lake with a river (or more than 1) converging into it and pebbles on its shores
It could be a nice idea, even an artificial one an ancestor style dam
I mean Krill also have lights but its not the same type of light
ye but aren't they confirmed corrupted light creatures? so ofc theyd have it left over. i mean why would something that was Originally a dark creature have light
theyre confirmed to be corrupted, but not to have once been light creatures
we don't know if they were light creatures, but given all the other creatures in Sky besides dark ones are light, it's possible they were light creatures before corruption
i wanna know what krill were like before corruption aaa
I choose to believe they were the same just cause I dont like the whole "evil beings become dark and red coloured" but I mean, they could have just looked like an irl krill
oohh i thought they were dark bc they're dead
me: pulls up the miiverse post of "i wish squids were real" but replaces squids with krill
I love flight sm I wish mantas were real
Is the vault of knowledge real?
it exists in-game so yea
let's make one irl
After you visit the elder you are sent into a what seems to be an abandoned vault of knowledge
it could be a different part of the vault! given that it has direct access to eden, it would make sense if that part of the vault was closed off to keep people safe from everything going on out there
there's some reality shifting stuff that happens there. one thought is that the Vault was (partially) destroyed so Night Elder is trying to project what the Vault used to look like to maintain it. another idea is that purple light going haywire has obscured the Vault's reality
and this is why we don't build huge civilizations on stratovolcanoes
I awoken something in vela
Oh no I already drew these before, I just like showing them off
as you should, they look awesome and make a lot of sense
season of cleaning (eden)
season of revival
wouldn't that be sick

is the castle above Eden the same one we see in orbit?
i think so
I ADORE the little "uh-oh" blurb

hello lorechat i have a question. a) do you think aurora herself is canon to sky? if she is, then b) would the music in orbit be diagetic?
idk if aurora is canon to sky, but i think her music is
personally I don't think Aurora as her insert is canon, however the season's events, stories, and spirits are. likewise her singing during ascension and in Orbit is not in-universe Aurora but is highly associated with the Light
aurora's voice when you're flying to the light in orbit is ethereal
personally i think aurora could be a storyteller, so as an individual she could be canon but not as Big Sparkly Aurora! she could also just be a framing device, but i dunno
oo, like yes she exists but isnt a god? just a storyteller? i like that idea
the big thing keeping me from saying she's categorically canon is that she doesn't look like any of the other ancestors we've seen in the game or any supplementary material. i'm toying with the idea that she could be an ancestor who just has so much light in them that it shines through the skin and makes them look pale, but i haven't settled on that yet
Thats assuming she is an ancestor tho
Personally I think she’s the embodiment of a voice
local human teleports to another reality, throws a concert, and leaves /j
yeah, that's what i'm saying - if she's canon in any physical capacity, i'd expect she'd be an ancestor, but then there has to be a reason she's so different from the others
for the Season of the Little Prince, you can tell how the devs took care to integrate The Little Prince into the world of Sky, such as converting the characters from the book into spirits with meta-attachments to the Elder. however even the lil French boy was still a direct insert who's presence is ambiguous both in-universe and at a meta level. Season of Aurora is the same, with many integrations into Sky's world yet a direct insert of a central character whose canoncity is thus put up to debate.
hey y'all i know obv not a lot of lore bits are "canon" but is there somewhere i can read about what's been confirmed/what's generally agreed on? 🧍🏻♀️ im still pretty new to the game so lots of what gets talked about in here (kings n castles n such) but i wanna know more 😭😭
well, everyone's dead
there's a rudimentary lore basics doc floating around somewhere, but i don't have the link
oh fr? like even the kiddos?
The kids are actively dying frequently
nah, not the skids we play as, but all the ancestors
well every spirit lol
ye i knew the ancestors were dead
re: lore doc – there is Baud's lore basics google doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/12XSkaMV_5UYG-an_Qo37ItyKP6GaqBBA6iRqBVE2qck/edit?usp=sharing
there are a number more but Baud's is the most up-to-date and accurate
🫡 tysm
however Baud's google doc simply lists the basics of what's been confirmed, which isn't a lot to begin with. for more in-depth details, it's better to just ask here, though keep in mind that we aren't Google /lh
ye!! i really just need the basics rn anyways teehee i tried piecing together the story that's shown through the paintings (if that's what they're called?) and the spirits but i think at some point i got lost
actually Google would be less helpful than lorechat lmao
yeah the murals and spirit memories are p much the biggest in-game treasure troves of information! but they can be hard to decipher - that's part of what i love about lorechat, that we can all bounce ideas around and maybe get closer to a solid theory than any one of us could do alone
like i didn't realize eden wad literally like..... an explosion 😭💀 idk what i thought it was before i started reading posts in here but i would have never guessed it was the remains of a crystal exploding
Eden still explodes sometimes
OTL my brain also took a bit to connect the shard pieces falling in the realms to eden like thinking about it now it makes so much sense
if you look up right as the eruption starts you can actually see the shards getting launched :3 i think it's super cool
😮 really?? that's so neat
I still wonder what caused the explosion and why its still going on. Like how much energy was in there? It looks like a gigantic power diamond so it could have possibly been a central energy project, a sort of display of power almost that would also be functional. Why is it stil spewing darkstone? What happened to the original light energy that went in?
it’s not as easy to catch one anymore since they made eruptions less common post-Shattering but here’s an Eden eruption: https://youtu.be/GxMKImjv7B8
the casualty of this statement is sending me
huge massive earth shaking explosion
....classic eden moment
Eden eruptions weren't always a thing and they used to be more frequent during the Season of Shattering. I'd imagine resident skykids freaking out at first, nervously checking the sky if it was changing color. now, months later after hundreds of eruptions and with decreasing frequency, most older skykids just shrug and go "oh, Eden exploded again."
i'd be pretty anxious seeing smth like that super frequently myself
also in that video, there's a heartbeat sound?? is that from the skids or? since we're made of light, would we have a heart beat still?
yea, it's from the skykids. when you're holding hands or riding piggyback, you can hear a heartbeat presumably from the other skykids. I heard it's suppose to represent friendship
🥹🥹 that's so cute
WAIT. WAHAAAT. I had no idea you could hear a heart beat from other skykids
THAT EXPLAINS THE HEARTBEAT IN EDEN CENTER

the heartbeat you hear in Eden stormlock as you die is probably your own since you're alone and solo as you die, lightless, not a flame nearby to save you

ouch
I once again bring up this: why on earth is Eden still exploding/erupting? Why is it still spewing darkstone? How hasn't it runnout of energy or dark stone yet? How big is this thing? Is the Eden diamond perhaps why there was a war in the first place? Because its still spewing darkstone and how many light creatures were killed in order to fuel it in the first place then? Why did they make it anyway? Was it arrogance? Did they want a central power hub with 1 big diamond instead of using many small diamonds that needed regular charging?
that is a lot of questions in one message, friend
¯_(ツ)_/¯
GIVE ME LORE, I HUNGER
again, we're not Google. while lorechat is a good place to get detailed answers for your questions, we're humans who can get overwhelmed by dropping a lot of questions on us at once and demanding we reply asap.
and sometimes the answer to those questions is a genuine idk
we don't know why the Eden diamond corrupted and exploded the first time. we don't know why it stopped nor do we know why it started to erupt again now.
Yeah I know I'm just pouty lol
not saying you can't ask questions about things you're confused about but it would be appreciated to stick to one or two per message
or at least not drop a whole paragraph of them
My lore thirst is mainly directed at the devs. I put most of the questions together cause they're all related and because of the slow-mode I don't wanna spam a bunch of them as I tend to forget. I'm not expecting to get an answer to all of them and whomever bounces with me can decide to focus on whatever
the devs have said that Sky was deliberately made to be "up to interpretation." if there isn't a canon or meta answer for a thing, it is up to us, the players, to figure that out for ourselves. there's a lot of Sky I want to know for sure, but the best I got are my own and other folk's theories in the dearth of dev input.
so I have a question for you: why do you think the Eden diamond is exploding?
I like to think the eden diamond was made as a power source as light was becoming scarce, if it was intended to not be required to continiously powered on like regular diamonds, maybe that's why its still powered till this day since that was an intended function, just went awry and now its spitting out super normal and perfectly edible crystals
Best you can get from non-devs are theories, which can still be fun to rotate in your mind !
I can't think of any other place that has red stone similar to Eden, so my speculation is that the Eden diamond is a highly concentrated power stone, thats extremely refined and probably one of the primary drivers behind the pollution we see. Being more densely packed/concentrated, it might be able to absorb wayyyy more light energy them normal power stones/diamonds, which translates to having a lot of concentrated energy in a smaller space then usual. It could be that perhaps the Eden diamond was unstable because of the energy or otherwise structurally unsound in some other way. But again, thats my own speculation considering the fact its still spewing and that the stones drain light
why on earth is Eden still exploding/erupting? Why is it still spewing darkstone?
The Shattering intro mentions how "it" was "too much for the mountain", I think it might have been building up darkness before erupting !
How hasn't it runnout of energy or dark stone yet? How big is this thing?
Eden looks pretty huge, it's possible the shards expelled are still only debris compared to what has already been taken by the eruption (such as the castle).
Is the Eden diamond perhaps why there was a war in the first place? Because its still spewing darkstone and how many light creatures were killed in order to fuel it in the first place then?
That's the kind of stuff that heavily relies on your interpretation; I don't think the war was caused by it directly nor that it was made out of countless light creatures (at least not intentionally) since I like to think it's natural darkness at the core of the mountain that was corrupted by experiments !
Why did they make it anyway? Was it arrogance? Did they want a central power hub with 1 big diamond instead of using many small diamonds that needed regular charging?
Idem, though we see a mural where a figure holds it up so it's likely it has been touched by ancestors. I like the idea of a central diamond because I also like the failed hero's journey theory, which would make it a failed attempt at fixing an energy crisis !
mayhaps eden is still erupting because of all the skids giving up/ losing light around it? it's absorbing the light from the fallen skids and , since it was unstable to begin with and exploded because of too much energy st once, it keeps minorly exploding due to the constant light being absorbed by it still
like the original eden crystal exploded but the core of it obv is still there and just keeps taking in light and with no sound structure, it just keeps breaking
Oooh that is an interesting, so the Sky kids could theoretically be unkowingly feeding the diamond while trying to save the spirits of the people still petrified there. Also I agree on the failed hero's journey concept, considering all the speculation surrounding the prince and the king
@keen shore and @frigid tinsel got a really cool theory about the Eden diamond working kinda like a black hole with an accretion disk and all !
Consider: instead of building up darkness before exploding, the diamond was building up Light
YEAH BECAUSE LIGHT = MEMORIES
I remember that was a common theory when Shattering first came out, that skykids were unintentionally feeding the Eden diamond light whether by continually returning to Eden or from ascending past it.
If you were to look down while ascending, you can see a swirl of clouds emanating from Eden
maybe i'm evil teehee (and not just cause it's my own theory) but i kinda like the "no fixing what's already been done" kind of theory. the skids might have been sent to return light to the world after the explosion, but since there's really no one (not in spirit) to guide them, they kind of all unknowingly aide what i ti ally destroyed everything
the clouds are reminiscent of an accretion disc. black holes are often illustrated with an accretion disc, material that orbits the black hole before falling into it.
if Eden has an accretion disc, does that make Eden analogous to a black hole?
hmm, maybe. altho we do leave eden frequently, and black holes are supposed to be something that not even light can escape.. so maybe its just sort of a black hole
black holes are supermassive spatial elements formed when the gravity of a large body, usually a giant star, causes it to collapse into a smaller point. even though all that mass has been compressed into a way smaller point, it still maintains the gravitational force of all that mass, which is so strong that not even light has a fast enough escape velocity to overcome that pull. that is why black holes are, well, black – since no light from a black hole can escape, none of that light reaches us, so we see only the absence of light of the event horizon.
me, an astronomy lover:
i like this convo
part of the thought that the Eden diamond is a black hole comes from an old name for power diamonds: artificial stars.
it's safe to assume that the Eden diamond is made of darkstone and is essentially a giant power diamond. we don't know why the ancestors made it, we just know that they did. and the Eden diamond is the only power diamond that had corrupted, essentially a giant artificial star that died in a stellar explosion like supermassive stars that form black holes.
maybe the wind that blows in eden isn't exactly wind, but is the force of the diamond pulling us in then? if we want to play with the idea that eden is essentially acting as a black hole
granted, when I explain the black hole theory, I don't particularly mean it is a literal black hole, however there are other elements to helps the metaphor.
so you mention the wind pulling us in, but I've been thinking it's not the wind pulling us in – it definitely drags us around, makes it difficult to fly – yet still something that keeps drawing us to Eden. skykids are directed to Eden to die. why do we keep going?
not to get into specific reasons why, however it is worth considering that skykids do feel this call to Eden and continue to go to Eden even if they know that they'll die there. we also see light creatures going to Eden despite the fact that Eden is a darkness hellscape - dangerous, treacherous, even deadly, yet they keep going. we all feel this pull into Eden, we are drawn toward Eden as though it is exerting it's gravity on us to draw us closer.
something something light seeks out light and wants to merge with itself per Catlem's theory (have a headache so words are hard, sorry for not providing more clarity)
also some lines from some of the shattering poems
Entranced by strange brilliance (Crab poem)
Soft wings flowing to bright beacons (Manta poem)
The distant call beyond reach (Whale poem)
to add to the black hole analogy, the Eden beam is a quasar (image below). for those unfamiliar, quasars are spouts of energy ejected from a black hole even as one actively draws in material. quasars are extremely bright though can vary in luminosity depending on the size of the black hole as well as over time. we don't really know why some black holes have quasars but it is thought to be due to a magnetic field that forms around the black hole or within its accretion disc.
there's debates over when in the timeline the Eden beam existed, though at present it is analogous to a quasar. if it existed before the Eden diamond, then I would best compare it to a pulsar, a rapidly rotating neutron star (which can also form from the death of a supermassive star) that spins so quickly that some of its electromagnetic energy starts shooting out two opposite directions.
maybe that's what the mega power diamond was created for. it was made to more smoothly and easily send the spirits through to orbit , and the draw that the creatures and skids have is just the natural call to well...die 💀. and that even though the diamond exploded, we still have that pull. the diamond exploding only made the journey more difficult but it was still a journey we would eventually have to make, regardless of the crystals condition. because once you ascend through eden, the flight is beautiful and peaceful (aside from the broken areas, but again, just a by product of the crystal exploding)
at least the quasar bit explains why we, skykids, and light creatures who may have been caught in Eden's darkness are able to escape and ascend – ejected from the black hole and shot out by its own power.
bro eden potentially acting as a quasar got me shrieking i LOVE quasars
currently vibrating excitedly about astronomy/astrophysics but also unable to string complex thoughts together
LITERALLY SAME
there are more sci-fi hypotheticals that one could use the gravity of black holes to reorient and yeet space-faring vessels for celestial travel but, again, that's hypothetical stuff even though that has got me thinking about how we escape Eden.
okay it is hypothetical but we already do that with planets and our satellites.
cosmic slingshots cosmic slingshots i love them so much
that's the name, I couldn't quite remember it
slamming my hands on my table so hard
i think there's a more proper name for them but cosmic slingshots is p descriptive so that's what i'm going with for now lmao
library we get each other im SO for it
I've been bouncing as I'm typing, space is so cool
SPACE IS SO COOL THAT IS CORRECT
:3 i am always down to scream about space and cry about stars
surrounded by my people,,,,,,
skykids are fallen stars and when we ascend, we return to our celestial home in space
SAME THOUGHT I WAS GONNA SAY THAT
al you gotta stop or my space gender is gonna start crying /lh, j
my space gender has been shaking rapidly, soon ze is gonna be a pulsar hyrself
catch me reviving using star/stars/starself for myself after shelving it for years heyooo
Piggybacking off of this to say that there are currently two major possibilities for why the diamond was constructed. Both have a good amount of evidence backing them, although the second has slightly more.
- The diamond was created and placed there to harness the massive amounts of light of the Eden beam, which was around at this time and came from the mountain. The corruption was unintentional and may have happened from it being overflowed with light.
- The natural beam went dead a while before the diamond came. Unfortunately, this caused Many Problems, and a prophecy started that someone would eventually restore the beam. This did happen! …unfortunately not in a great way, as the diamond was used to restore the beam (and possibly purposefully corrupted? Who knows) and everything went sideways
I personally am still deciding which to believe in. You could make a great argument for either, honestly.
i'm a big fan of the second, though the way i've structured the rest my possible timeline around it needs to be reassessed in light of the new intro text
the Eden diamond may have been made or placed to harness the energy of the Eden beam or to restore it, but in doing so could've absorbed much more light than it could bear and imploded, like a supermassive star at the brink of death.

So true
One piece of evidence that counteracts the first is that the beam appears to be coming from the diamond rather than beneath whenever we get a chance to look at it, and a piece of evidence that counteracts the second is that, looking at murals, the beam and the diamond existing seem to be mutually exclusive… it’s very strange to figure out
Personally, I’m debating leaning towards the first, as it seems like it fits Sky’s themes of trying to exploit nature and having it backfire more, but I’m not sure. The disaster doesn’t have to have a moral behind it by any means
The second one could add urgency though, it would also add a level that like, they were desperate to find a solution quickly so they didn’t have time to think of the consequences of placing a giant diamond in the middle of Eden, but I agree the first sort of fits the narrative of nature exploitation better
You’re right, I didn’t think of that! The second definitely adds more urgency. I’d assume that even if the first was true, it’d be out of desperation — the Eden Beam seems such an important part of the light cycle that I can’t imagine any elder would jeopardize it simply out of greed. If they needed all that power that quickly, it must’ve been for a very good reason.
I do have one idea for why they’d need that much energy that fast but it’s pure speculation
Yeah the need for energy is another question for the first one. It may have been them thinking that they could combat pollution and dark creatures with the harvested light as well
Do the four spirits from the season of aurora represent the four elements? ( fire, air, earth, and water )
They have one of those powers each, yes!
megabird is aurora's fursona
Aurora is megabirds humansona
No clue, recently I got a friend of mine to play sky, that time seeing my friend play got me wondering if there was a specific reason why all sky kids start out looking the same and following the mysterious hand
Just did the Season of Flight quest and seeing the light creatures caught in the darkness plants made me think of your venus flytrap comparison. Seems pretty fitting, considering the shape. And I'm thinking the glowing bulbs in the center might be part of the lure? Imitating true light to draw in these creatures of light.
also relevant - "light seeks out light and wants to merge with itself" seems very fitting here
(I don't have anything to add to the space and black hole discussion, besides the fact that TGC seems to have been very into the space theme during development of this game, as can be seen by the satellite easter egg in the office)
Can anybody explain what happened during the season of shattering?
what do you guys think is the hierarchy in sky kingdom
I think its likely that the closer you are to Eden/the center of the kingdom, the higher your class is perhaps. In most societies nobility, scholars, spiritualists/whatever, soldierd and entertainers have more social standing/power then others, tho craftsmen could also be exceptions like candlemakers. Below them are perhaps "normal" ancestors, day to day people with no particularly special position of social or economic power.
ok what about not in position but like in a class kinda way like from king to peasant
what do you think is the lowest creature and which is the highest
I cant really see that imo
I feel like everyone is on equal footing, I can really only see the elders having more respect since they are the rulers of each their realms, but again I don’t see them being praised for the ground they walk on, just highly respected. With the elders having a great relationship to their people and vice versa. And sometimes small gifts and offerings can be left on their temple shrines.
Same for megabird, I can see many ancestors acknowledging them, and some praising them even, depends on the person, but I can see them just being acknowledged.
Like I see everyone having equal respect for one another, sure some hold the elders in higher regard. I can see saying’s like “By Isles beard” being a common thing. But I can’t see it being like everyone worships the ground the elders walk onand thinks they are untouchable, but instead seeing is that they care for their elders and what they do, and the feeling is mutual.
Sure some jobs I can see people having higher respect for but over all, just mostly equal
I do think they’re are ancestors that have varying degrees of living situations you’d see irl, same for a lot of fictional worlds too but not like peasants imo. I feel like the elders would try their best to make sure each of their people can live a comfortable life
ok but I don't mean the peasant thing in an offensive way, I'm just asking which creature do you think would be the lowest and which one is the highest, including the darkness creatures and the elders
Ah okay okay, could go from smallest to biggest for creatures like you’d see in a food chain.
There are giant birds known as elder birds (
<- here, emoji is even called that) and jellyfish with crowns seen in eden ascent and aurora concert, along with whales (
) so maybe they’re the own elder of their species, and could possibly guide and protect the smaller versions of their species.)
Maybe the elders could be the equivalent to that for ancestors, their job is to help ascend them to the stars and lead and protect them
Oo and we see those giant jellyfish during the “everything is soft inside” part of the climax (purple sky) and they seem to travel along side the jellyfish that are skykids turned into, maybe they’re ushering us along?
Thinking that eye of eden used to have an elder, but it’s like, that “person” doesn’t really look like an elder and it’s something bigger and stronger than that
But in my lore, eden elder wanted something more than light, so that’s why he decided to ruin the diamond
||ngl I have ideas different with others so yeah my ideas might sound crazy here||
i theorize the eden elder as the corrupted king tbh
Interesting
I can actually explain my own idea somehow
Hmm...
I find it curious how they are depicted inside the mounta? castle?
as if they themselves are the kingdom, they embody the kingdom
I think maybe we wear masks in sky because we are beings of light and our face is just big ball of light hehe
This was posted by the user Alsiofoh on Reddit three years ago
My personal theory is that the sky people are actually purely spiritual and their bodies are like clay vessels used in the interim before they are reborn in a different form of existence somewhere else. There are many tales in various myths and religions about people, gods, or other creatures being made from clay so that makes sense to me. I believe that when a sky child is reincarnated (i.e. finishing Eden) their spirit goes into a new clay vessel. Of course I'm sure if people lost all their hard earned cosmetics in the game every time they finished Eden they'd be ticked so you get to keep cosmetics for game reasons. ;3 Or maybe... Hmm... I'll think longer on that part, but... Why I think they wear masks is because they're all equally the same so by wearing masks, adjusting heights through potions, changing their hair, wearing unique clothes, etc. they can better represent who they feel they are inside. Kinda like humans, right? You do your hair how you like, you dress how you like, you talk how you like... You accessorize you're outward appearance to better reflect your inside perception. I never thought being concerned with appearance as vain, but more as better matching the outside with the inside. Maybe that's why bad haircuts hurt so deeply... (stares at mirror. "Don't worry, self. It'll grow out...")
But this also makes sense maybe we as the controller of the sky kids are like
What’s to call it when you guide someone through a journey, if sky kids can’t see that would make sense but okay NEVERMIND because they have drawings of krill and other creatures on the cave walls I was wrong lmao
Also the skykids are blind take is really ignorant about how blind people work, see: #lore-discussion-spoilers message
Why does the new season’s cosmetics look like they’re taken from the medieval times
im not sure if this is the right place to ask this but did someone already measure the difference between the heights of the elders and the ancestors/spirits?
Because it was taken from fan concepts
That’s not true
Because the spirits are refugees from war. They’re not gonna have the newest, flashy clothing — they barely have anything to survive and given their circumstances they’re gonna take any clothing they got, no matter how rough looking.
what is a megabird?
big bird
i assumed. but are they dead? what’s the significance of megabirds in the sky universe?
#lore-discussion-spoilers message alasdair’s explanation that im sure he has copy pasted somewhere
oh wow that’s amazing
manta plushie is real
naw i just went through the megabird concept art explained on tumblr and OH MY GOD I HAD A SIMILAR CONCEPT WITH THE PRINCE GETTING CORRUPTED

you can only trigger the cutscene with the whale when you enter from the tunnel in granny's forest. it doesn't trigger when you enter from the wind paths
I’m going to go check - hold on, let’s see if my one wing will carry me there HAHAH
butterflies can help you up if you boost as they carry you
you guys use the wind paths as shortcut?
Yeah your single wing light will serve you well /aff

Because I swear, I haven’t seen it in so long, I was fully convinced it was just gone
just going to drop this.
The whale cutscene can be played when you land on the ledge.
It does not matter where you got in, but it works once.
whale is not gone false alarm
HAVE I JUST BEEN MISSING THE WHALE THIS WHOLE TIME 💔💔💔💔💔
crabs are nice until one hits you during a shard event and you get stuck in one of the little red shards and lose wl- ~~not like that happened to me or anything

I FEEL LIKE SUCH AN IDIOT sorry for the false alarm everyone 💔💔💔💔💔💔 I am a player who likes to play with one wing only, so even getting there is a hassle
C looking sadly into the forest caves: I can’t believe the whale is dead… sometimes I can still hear its voice

Ok but it's really cool they are called that because it helps put them on a timeline
the murals are implied to tell a prophesied story! or, i guess more than implied, since all the surrounding material specifies that there is a prophecy
this is a good image
proph bald era
KRIIIIII :3
before their growth spurt....
HI ZIPPY
Just remembered but i skimmed over this earlier but yaknow how we got elder birds, whales, king jellyfish ect?
The giant birds being called elder birds(seen in the emoji name
), what if elder birds and king jelly’s ect are special light creatures? maybe ones made by megabird to guide the smaller versions of their species and guide and protect them.
What if that’s why ancestors have the elders, since their job would be to help them ascend, lead, and protect
King jelly’s were flying along side our skykids during the everything is soft inside for the aurora concert and they took the lead! What if that’s how biology in sky works if that makes sence
It's bear 747 ! winner of fat bear week 2022 😊
omg wait have y’all seen the winner of fat bear jr from like. 2021? i think
Same for the king krill (fannon name) in abyss the krills seemed to follow and lurk around them!!
I like to think the "king" jellyfish are actually elder jellyfish for this reason. elders lead and shepherd
(Re: whale issue
So APPARENTLY, there’s SOMETHING going on on my end that prevents the cutscene from ever playing. I don’t know if it’s because the little prince is Still Standing There, because I have one WL, or because I haven’t unlocked any of the wind paths, BUT
Explanation, that whale Does Not Like Me)
oh my god
Yaya same here (maybe king jelly could be a nickname for them)
why have you imprisoned the white boy in the caves c
remember when this teaser came out and everyone was freaking out cause they thought the spider mask was a crown
the whale doesn't like British people /j
The ever

So, question: are the see through manta thingies dead/ghosts?
IM SO MAD, WHY DOES IT NOT LET ME SEE MY EVER, MY EVER FOREVER
If Season of Prophecy has a million fans i am one of them. If Season of Prophecy has ten fans i am one of them. If Season of Prophecy has one fan then that is me. If Season of Prophecy has no fans that is because i am no more on the Earth. If the world is against Season of Prophecy I am against the world. I love Season of Prophecy until my last breath.
same
expected /aff
Maybe? Could possibly be another species, but also one appears from thin air when getting the cosmic call so they could also be dead
i wanna put them in a washing machine (affectionate)
You are so right.
logical next step after microwaving them
Confession: idk what microwaving means in spirit terms
I want to pour milk over them and then throw them against a wall
giving them trauma, usually
manta plushie + milk =
Ooo okay
-Microwaves my twin dynamic-
Re: the whale issue
It just doesn’t happen…
It’s probably cause of tlp 💔
They HATE lil Victorian children AND white boys
That whale HHHHHHATES ME
iirc the cutscene triggers when you take tlp's hand (i remember seeing it while holding his hand but i might be wrong)
THIS LITTLE CHILD IS PREVENTING ME FROM SEEING MY EVER???????????
Hold the white boys hand C💔
you gotta get rid of the white boy
you can wash off the french cooties with soap and water
Whale Custody battle
I see that head shake emoji and what is say to that (/aff): WHYA RE YOU A STILL IMAGE?????
The white boy is hoarding C’s whale
White boy on white boy crime
At least he’s dead at this point
I won.
died from waiting too long
Thinks about the twins
Thinking about how they built such a lively and bustling civilization on a MOUNTAIN, thinks of the architecture and the way to use darkstone to the fullest extent to improve ancestors lives and quality of life, that the city glitters in gold. thinks of how rich the culture is, the care taken into the races and how they circle back
Thinking that there are gravestones in the race buildings, also painted in gold, champions to honor maybe? Thinking how there’s also gravestones lining the twins temple, thinks that they’re the only elders to have gravestones in their temple, they must have been so close with their people, to share their temple as a resting ground
I am normal of these two and think that the “one braincell and stupid” characterization is dumb, I love the jokes but some folks think that is all they are and nothing more💔
this is sending me
And the split mountain too like??? That doesn’t happen naturally so either they’re like screw this mountain and split it in two or something to make room for the race or something. Which I can see
the twins are both so Gender
they seem like they are generally p serious but can become Silly
Or visa versa
Did you know air Can cut stone if it’s a high enough pressure from machines? Imagine that
YES EXACTLY CRAB EXACTLY THEY CAN BE SILLY BUT THEY HAVE THRIVED AT THEIR ROLE AS BEING ELDERS TO THEIR REALM
i was literally just listening to your rant about this
